Cool bar, chill space, great staff (shout out to Alice, Carlos, and Ruben)! As other commentors have mentioned the trivia on Tuesdays is top tier, absolutely out of this world- insta: @eviltrivia P.s. I don't think they offer food anymore fyi

Google
I ordered three Bud Lights, and the bartender initially rang up $20 on the portable card reader. Then, without saying anything, he turned around and charged me $25 instead. On top of that, he automatically added a 30% tip, bringing the total to $32.50. When I questioned why a tip was included, he acted confused and said, “This doesn’t look right.” He briefly turned away, pretending to check something, then looked me straight in the eye and claimed the 30% gratuity was standard. Not only was he rude, but he blatantly lied. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Stay away

Excellent food and drinks. Great service. Awesome interior reminiscent of your own living spaces. Great backyard with pool table, lounge areas and tables to sit and eat or drink .

Went to this spot after seeing a play with my best friend and everything was cool although in a packed house i was only one of 3 people of color. Cool no problem but a bartender named Ry ignored me and served everyone around me. I thought maybe if i said excuse me i would get his attention, but then he ignored me more. I said excuse me louder and he then said stop shouting and continued to ignore me and serve all the others around me. I was like "maybe its too dark over here, and you dont see me?" The guy then flipped out on me and started yelling at me, which really told me he had an issue with my "tan" . He then got another bartender named Luis who apologized for Ry and said he was a new bartender 🙄. Clearly to me he had some race issues. The spot was nice otherwise but was not diverse and hopefully Ry will find another job more fitting his attitude. In my opinion Ry was some racism issues. 🤷🏿‍♂️

So this was my first time ever in 13 years being kicked out of a bar. I have no idea what I did wrong and I wish I did I literally was standing talking to two of my friends, mind you I wasn’t belligerent drunk I had two drinks Gin and tonic. I am puerto Rican and black so I’m not pulling the race card since the bouncer who kicked me out was either Mexican or Peruvian. I attempted to ask why I was being kicked out for standing and talking I’m 34 years old I’m not some young person who can’t handle LQ… I attempted to ask why I was being removed from the bar and the guy said I will tell you in front of the bouncer which I agreed to with no resistance. I calmly walked out of the bar with him and at the door he hardly pushed me out front and went back in to not intail why I had been removed. I spoke with the bouncer and apologized not knowing what I did and complimented him kindly on his tuxedo and didn’t make a scene out of the situation, however I honestly wish I just had known what I had done wrong to not make the same mistake going forward at any other bar and was never given a reason or explanation why I was being removed and I’m not mad I’m just sad that I’m unable to correct whatever mistake may have been wrong in the eyes of this bar. I will say I will never come back here again and don’t advice anyone to come here due to the pricing of drinks and crowdedness and it’s misdirection of what’s available at the times such as the back yard being closed at 11.00 PM, and the prices for 4 drinks being oversold 100$ Would have fathered spent my night in Brooklyn if it weren’t a close friends birthday. Any hoot, I wish I knew what I did wrong to be removed from the premises it would have st least made me a better person going forward to know to be a sheep. I don’t hate this bar note.. I just wish they were empathetic to at least correct whatever mistake I may have been made.

BEWARE OF ST DYMPHANA'S. My phone got stolen last night and security could not care less. They were suspiciously unhelpful and said that 10+ people had missing phones in the span of 2 days. I was fully sober and my phone was in my bag, which was zipped up and someone still got into my purse and stole my phone. The crowd was so packed and everyone was getting pushed all over. Terrible experience and will never be back.

Google
They’ve recently renovated and, for the slightly pubby atmosphere, it has very tasty food. Also, highly recommend their Tuesday night trivia. They weirdly don’t advertise it but It’s the best in the city.

Google
Literally the vibe of this place is amazing. The dj the dancing everything. My friends and I had such a good time that we left to see somewhere else and was like nah this is the place to be. Please never fire the dj from 11/02/2024 he’s the GOAT

Sarah S.

Yelp
My friend's credit card was lost here and they did nothing about it. Either it was stolen right before our eyes in some elaborate scheme (we saw what looked like an RBC credit card being handed off to another customer...after dropping the card on the ground and I pointed it out to them) or they straight up dropped the card somewhere and didn't bother helping us out further (all they did was shine a flashlight on the floor for a few seconds).

Maddi B.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night and it was too crowded to dance without being bumped into constantly BUT the playlist is so so good. 2010s hits after hits with some classics and new songs thrown in. Loved it because of the music!

Samantha S.

Yelp
Spacious bar with a back room and sizable outdoor space (with the back patio now partially covered and featuring a pool table!). The staff are always friendly, there are televisions inside and in the covered sidewalk area to watch sports during the day, and at night, there are frequently djs in addition to programming like trivia, which gets pretty serious. Dymphna's serves up solid pub grub during the day and into the evening. There's a community about the place at any given moment with a base of regulars made up of musicians and artists, but on weekends, the crowd can get pretty young and the musical stylings can get pretty basic in an appeal to pop fans and university students. This is not always the case however. Since they switched the lightbulbs out to dimmer ones, I've felt the vibe shift a bit. I preferred it to be a touch brighter honestly, but I am fond of the establishment and its management, so I pop in every once in a while and am always met by familiar faces. There are four tiny all-gender bathrooms, two connected to the front room, and two through the hall in the back room. All feature old-school pull chain toilets and cute little corner sinks. Unfortunately, these are not wheelchair accessible. Dymphna's has pretty good happy hour deals and fair prices overall. There's a charming disco ball in the front for dj nights. Most djs here usually play rock 'n roll, early 2000s indie rock (as people from that scene hang out here), and the like. I take everyone here; since my previous favorite East Village bar closed during the pandemic (RIP Black and White), it's the neighborhood spot.

Alex N.

Yelp
Fiancé's phone got stolen here last night out of her purse which was on her side. Within three minutes the phone was shut down. Seems like people at the bar know it's happening and don't move fast enough. Bouncer told me there's nothing they can do but scan the floors (stalling). Read other reviews, it happens at this spot quite often. Will never go again.

Dylan M.

Yelp
Nothing on the TVs was very disappointing since it was early. Bartender was rude too, the one with the black hair and tattoos.

Justin B.

Yelp
Word on the street was a new owner took over and has revamped the image. They've done a great job with the heated front patio, wrap around leather couches inside and hiring top talent. During these difficult times it's nice to see a location revamped with plenty of space and seating both out front and in the back. Great people watching out front too

Gar M.

Yelp
The old bar was great, but the new one is a no-go. They put a 20% gratuity on my card without asking, for drinks only! When I asked why, was told it's "standard." Rip off.

Carol L.

Yelp
Cute little EV bar near Tompkins Square Park. The little backyard area is outdoors and nice to have nice, long conversations with friends and family alike. They don't provide great service to the back I would say, we had to go up to the bar multiple times to check on our order and the water jugs at the bars for self serve water were always empty. But, they do make a delicious apérol spritz, and it's a great, relatively affordable place to have in your back pocket to hang out with people outdoors in EV.

Japonica F.

Yelp
the vibes are not it. i wouldn't come here if you're older than 21 because you will feel ancient. the music sucks - when i went they were playing the worst of the worst throwbacks on a saturday night, for example "just the way you are - bruno mars" - and everyone in there was singing along word-for-word. it was very cringe and not fun. the place gets packed like sardines and it would be a bit more bearable if the music was good but there's really nothing redeeming about this place. also, a single shot of tequila was $16 with tip - i realized they automatically include 20% on every drink order which i'm sure makes them a lot of extra money. $13 for a tequila shot is still outrageous.

Giovanna P.

Yelp
Very fun bar, although it gets VERY packed and hard to move around. The bouncers are nice and the music selection is great. Good spot for dancing and singing along the best throwbacks. The space is very small and they only have 2 bathrooms but I guess that is part of the vibe

Mia A.

Yelp
Pocket thieves come here watch out. We were being warned before we even came in. Don't come here

Michelle M.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar. Went here on my husband's birthday, and what do they happen to have hanging on the wall? A "Happy Birthday" sign. As I was about to take a picture of my husband sitting under this sign, the bartender comes running over to join my husband in the picture. How sweet! Happy Hour beers are $4 freaking dollars! And it goes on till 8pm. OMG! I'm from the Bay Area and happy hour never goes past 6pm, what a breath of fresh air. People here are chill, no bad vibes. Great experience, we're super jealous of the locals that get to enjoy this bar.

Anne G.

Yelp
I have actually never left a yelp review in my life. When i tell you that i needed to download and create an account to tell everyone just how insane this place is, i am being dead serious. You ever watch Always Sunny In Philadelphia? I'm talking about the bartender that looks like a McPoyle. Anyway. He was so incredibly insane. I cannot begin to describe, but yet i persevere. My friends and i (all grown, mind you) go to st. Dymphna's for a pint. The bartender in question must have been. I don't know. Having a hard day? He was so aggressive and rude. Swearing and being so truly unwelcoming. Anyway. I won't waste my own time and energy trying to explain. Maybe if we were belligerent then I'd get it? However he must have been on some kind of power trip, because upon presenting ID, he was patronized in a "you're an adult, you can't get your ID out? You're acting like a fucking kindergartener?". The ID in question, my friends, was just in his back pocket-- in the process of being procured. I tell you now, dear reader, to not bring your patronage to this place. Go to Doc Holidays. That place is, like, two doors down and WORLDS more kind.

Marty K.

Yelp
DO NOT COME TO THIS BAR. You may be fooled, as I was, by the allure of no cover and Taylor Swift music radiating from the speakers. Don't fall for it. This institution serves as a facade for a black market phone and wallet extortion escapade that is undergoing. Not only was my phone, ID and credit cards stolen but I had the opportunity to #bond with ~5 others who had the same experience THAT SAME NIGHT. Bartenders and bouncers could not have given less of a shit. Maybe they are even in on it. Other reviews say the same thing. BOYCOTT ST. BEATPHNAS!

Young H.

Yelp
I used to be a regular when St Dymphna was on St Mark. Haven't been here for a while, and it has changed very much, not for the better. Beer selection is awful and no food available at all.

Lily N.

Yelp
Would give it a 0 if I could. I've been here a few times, very average each time. This time particularly stuck out to me--the place is almost empty, and I go to the bar to order a Long Island. Bartender ("James H") shakes his head and tells me he won't give me a "big cup of alcohol" and that I "should try again," so I order a Moscow mule and he condescendingly says "that's better."First of all, I was completely sober as this was our first stop of the night. Second, even if he didn't want to serve it to me, there were other ways to go about it. Oh, and on top of that, a 20% gratuity was already included. $19 for a watered-down drink??? Never coming back here again.

John-Carlo B.

Yelp
Great place to dance and enjoy a few drinks. Bouncers and bartenders are welcoming, and drinks are reasonably priced!!

Ellen Z.

Yelp
I had an amazing time coming here with my friends the other night celebrating a birthday! However, there was one man who kept bumping into all of us aggressively and pushed my friend. I spoke to the bouncer and they escorted him out. 5 minutes later he is back in and doing the same thing. At this point, we left. Pretty disappointed because I was having a great time.

Sam C.

Yelp
The bartender was very rude to my friend when she tried to order a drink. This was our first stop for the night, we had nothing to drink yet but when she ordered her drink he very rudely refused to make it for her. He said he wasn't going to hand her "a big glass of alcohol" when she ordered a Long Island. Regardless the reason for refusal he was unnecessarily rude. Couldn't even not leave a tip because it was included anyway- $19 for what you could call water was a very infuriating experience. Thanks James.

Tina C.

Yelp
St. Dymphna is the patron saint of the mentally ill and of victims of incest. A 7th Century Irish born Christian saint whom this bar/ Irish pub is named after. Wait service is very limited as my party of two placed our drink orders at the bar despite of sitting at a table. We had to flag a waiter numerous times who was difficult to attain his attention in taking our respective entrees. Atmospheric conditions are boisterously loud with the constant chatter of patrons in a dark, dingy divey-like bar setting. My Cos Cobb salad is abundant in portion and good value for the price. My friend's Chicken Pot Pie was served without the crock pot non-traditional on a plate. He, unfortunately, cracked his tooth from this Chicken Pot Pie entrée. No alcohol libations for either of us. My Shirley Temple drink was okay. Price is reasonable. Table service is limited. Their dinner menu is limited. This bar is best for an after-work hangout for libations only. No business cards- do not request for one as there are none.

Matthew O.

Yelp
People like the bartender James are why this place is what it is - good company, black hole on weekends

David B.

Yelp
Arguably the best bar I know. Perfect casual atmosphere, outdoor patio with a lot of seating, and just the right level of crowdedness on a Friday night. Feels like a hidden gem.

Pat H.

Yelp
Server was a dick. Didn't have spicy margs, told us and we said okay, they brought us a marg with hot sauce mixed in. Gross.

Max F.

Yelp
Great neighborhood bar. Went to the old location for years - the new location is even better. Love the backyard!

Kathy L.

Yelp
A great weekend spot! Had a great night Saturday in the back - love the woman energy. Girl boss with tattoos was stellar. Will be back next weekend 11/10

James F.

Yelp
great bar. Best place for a date or to dance on a Friday, great staff and typically great ambiance.

Victoria O.

Yelp
I have no idea what it's like in the summer, though I imagine warm (to judge by the fans on the ceiling, which they wouldn't have if there were a/c). This dark, spare East Village pub plays 1990s music at a volume that permits conversation (at least on a frigid winter night around 9:30). As we left, it began to fill up. The menu is limited but my Shepherd's pie was excellent (and large). The fries are killer: think MacDonald's in the 1970s before they changed the recipe. I almost ordered a side after my Shepherd's pie, the first food I'd had in 10 hours. I will try the chicken pot pie next time. On the ceiling are large noise absorbers, which suggests that this place can get loud when it's not 10 degrees outside. The bartender looks like something out of Central Casting for a pub just west of Avenue A with wooden benches and chairs: pixie-like, beanie, thin, fit, hair just shorter than shoulder-length, and pretty in an unassuming way. Specialty cocktails are cheaper than you'd find most places in the city (11 or 12). Most beer on tap is 7 (and a generous portion). The block is cool, too. "Dumpling Man" is a few doors west and there are a bunch of holes in the wall, along with a specialty beer pub that boasts "rare" beers.

Willa G.

Yelp
I've been coming to this bar for a year, and the last time I came there was a new bouncer. He initially let me into the bar and then when he started giving my friend grief for loosing her ID, I tried to talk to him just to assure him she was of age, and he took my ID from ME and told me it was fake after letting me in prior then confiscated it and wouldn't give it back now deciding it was fake. He listed a bunch of reasons that if they were actually true he would have just denied me the first time and then refused to return it when he had just verified it not even 10 min before.

Hap P.

Yelp
This place rocks. Great prices, warm heaters outdoors, small bites that's also reasonably priced. Great service too. Cannot go wrong here!

John G.

Yelp
I'm writing a review not because of the drinks or food, but because of their outdoor setup/staff. The staff is very nice and helpful. The drinks are pretty standard to what you'd get at any bar in the city, but a little cheaper so that's a benefit. But their space is great for COVID times - one of the most ideal spots in the city especially in the winter. They have individual booths so you're not sharing outdoor space with people you don't know and are barricaded off, yet have good airflow. They also have heaters which do a great job of keeping it warm.

Carlin Y.

Yelp
This place makes me think of a cross between a pub and a hipster bar. Cozy and yet lively, homey but quirky at the same time. The staff dress casually like anyone else at the establishment and look like they came straight from a punk hipster clan, which serves for some fun surprises and great conversations. They're also super friendly and super chill, which is always a bonus. Got the chicken pot pie here for $12, which was an unfortunately small portion, but really quite delicious. I can't really comment on any of the other food, but it seems like some pretty solid pub fare if you're craving it. Probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but really liked the different experience and would come to try some other items on the menu if I'm in the area!

Sherry L.

Yelp
Dark and dive-y, but a good place to grab a drink after work or hang out with friends! I got there around 9PM on a weekday night, and the bar area was surprisingly packed. Thankfully, there is also a small seating area in the back for folks looking to have dinner or just be out of the way of everyone else. I'm not particularly a fan of Irish Pubs, so St. Dymphna's didn't really make an impression. Similarly, the exterior of this pub kind of blends in with the rest of the bars in the area, so unless you know specifically what you are looking for, you'll probably walk right by St. Dymphna's without even noticing it.

Nelson W.

Yelp
Casual vibe, cheap drinks, great beer selection. Can't get much better for an Irish pub in the East Village than St. Dymphna's. The spot captures a truly relaxed feel and attracts a variety of customers between students, young professionals, and hipsters. It gets very crowded here on weekends (after 10pm) so definitely behooves small groups to how up a tad early. The food selection is actually delicious and a good value making Dymphna's a good dinner spot. A personal favorite, not mentioned nearly enough, is the chicken pot pie. Truly one of the most amazing creations ever. Super savory filling on the inside of a flaky pie (shell) that resembles the shape of a beef patty. It is undoubtedly one of the best I have ever had and worth trekking to here for.

A A.

Yelp
Last Friday night I was being sexually harassed by a man while ordering a drink. He kept grabbing my ass and body after I told him repeatedly to stop. The main bartender (white, tall, gray hair) knew it was happening and when I tried to tell him he cut me off and said, "Yeah, but what can you do about it?" in an excessively obnoxious manner. He smiled. I have bartended in dozens of bars in NYC and you can, at the very least, both talk to someone about their behavior or ask them to leave if they are assaulting a customer. The other bartender was kinder and gave me a glass of water to throw in the assaulter's face. It is not okay to have men harassing or assaulting women at your bar and the staff do nothing and laugh.

Arielle R.

Yelp
the best fried chicken sandwich in the city. genuinely. like please. stop going anywhere else for a a fried chicken sandwich.

Art H.

Yelp
Charged me for drinks I never got, said they cancelled the charge, but never did. So now I have to deal with with my credit card company. Additionally, immensely rude service. Screw me for paying you money for a service, right? Show your customers a modicum of respect and maybe they'll keep coming back. Also, to the guy who claimed to be a manager, don't touch a customer ever, and especially not during COVID. Shocked you survived the pandemic.

Liz Y.

Yelp
I'm SO mad that a friend of mine got kicked out of a bar by the owner because english fans were butthurt from the WC semifinals. This is unacceptable, you as an owner should be there for your patrons EQUALLY. It's pretty despicable especially in a NY establishment. I'll make sure I'll never go there nor any of my friends. Congrats to Croatia!

Doreen F.

Yelp
The draft beer is only $4! Where can you find this deal? The pub is very cozy and they have a dim light throughout making it very romantic. The food is not the best, you should go there for happy hour and drinking! It's nice for small groups 4 or less, the place is small.

Mariana L.

Yelp
Randomly found this bar exploring East Village and have been back several times. Has a neighborhood bar/family feel to it. The drinks are great, it has a huge back patio and the food is actually really good too.

Sam H.

Yelp
There is very little wait service, so we placed our orders at the bar. I came in because I was craving shepherd's pie and fish and chips, luckily they had both (which I ordered). The battered fish wasn't crispy at all, it was kind of mushy and oily. The fries tasted ok. The shepherd's pie tasted as if they used canned ground beef. I was not expecting to be wowed but this was below average. Most importantly my friend and I may have gotten sick from this food; we both woke the next morning with extreme nausea and, well, needed to spend lots of time in the lavatory. Maybe something was cooked wrong? We are not coming back.

Jackie M.

Yelp
This place is great for brunch. The menu isn't super extensive but all I wanted was a full Irish breakfast (perfect if you're doing Keto). Their full Irish breakfast is excellent and just $12 (most places in the area charge $17 and up). Strong coffee too. The bartender Sofia was lovely and the service was great even though it appeared to be just her. We've come here for drinks in the evening before as well and it's nice. Warning - It can get pretty busy on weekend nights.

Kitty W.

Yelp
$4 drafts and happy hour til 8. At least it's Til 8 according to my girlfriend. Everything was fine, and the girls and I were catching up in our corner table.. Until... We went to the bar to get our happy hour beer on tap. I'm sorry that I'm one of those people who just don't carry cash. I ordered a drink and whipped out my CC and opted to close my tab. It was at that time one of my gfs decided to just pay for me with her cash (thanks jerkface!), but the bartender just haddddd to chime in. What did he say to irk me? "Yeah cash would be better.. Because $4 on a card is kind of annoying.". YEAH? Well your face is annoying! Don't have the heart to give them 2 stars simply bc this is my friend's "favorite bar"... ..... Her taste is quite questionable at this point tho.

Michael G.

Yelp
great location, nice back patio, young too cool for school crowd. great music, ambience. ok service, but as someone who just gets beer there that doesn't matter much to me. prices high, but they are everywhere in the neighborhood/nyc/usa at this time so nothing crazy

Jennifer M.

Yelp
I love this bar. It's dark, it's a dive, and it's an awesome place to have a few drinks with friends. It's very casual - not one of those fancy bars where you feel awkward in jeans. They have a great DJ/playlist who plays a variety of new and old music that everyone can sing along to. The mixed drinks are delicious, and they have a nice selection of beers on tap. The bartenders are attentive - you won't wait too long for a drink. We'll be back for sure.

Elsa G.

Yelp
I used to go there but recently I brought 2 girl friends and the barman didn't pay attention to us he was even rude. I'm more than disappointed because when you bring friends you expect the same service as you use to have generally

Katherine A.

Yelp
Extremely rude staff. The second you step in the door you can tell they want you to leave.

Kaite B.

Yelp
All I'm reviewing on was the hot cider which was exactly as needed on a cold and gross day. Next time I'll be sure to try the food! Cute and homey atmosphere

Norah K.

Yelp
I've come here after seeing movies in the East Village for a pint of Guinness. I've had the break up conversation here over a pint of Guinness. I've nursed my new year's hangover here with a pint of Guinness. I've made out with my secret boyfriend here after too much Guinness... Lesson: Guinness is good for you. And so is St. Dymphna's.

Julie T.

Yelp
Stopped in for that cheap Happy Hour draft beer. Got the Goose Island IPA, tasted good. It's a cozy, dark and classic pub. No frills, just chill.
