Where to Find the Best Charcuterie in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"It’s not all about the fromege at the St. James Cheese Company, with locations Uptown and in the Warehouse District. Paired with runny, gooey, sharp and hard cheeses of note, the charcuterie selection changes daily, with selections like capicola, rosemary ham, and rosa salami. Served with bread and accompaniment, the charcuterie board is best savored full on, 10 items for $32. Drink wine with and enjoy." - Beth D’Addono

New Orleans’ Best Summer Dishes To Eat Right Now - Eater New Orleans

"For a summertime meal with a continental flair, get this simple and perfect sandwich. Just a baguette, butter, brie, and ham make for the Platonic ideal. Add a salad on the side for vitamins and ruffage, or add potato chips because they’re potato chips. Both St. James Cheese Company locations serve this sandwich." - Nora McGunnigle

Google
Delightful lunch spot. Gluten free options. I chose the Tuna Melt special. My entire group loved all their food.

Google
The very best cheese I’ve ever had outside of Europe. Not to mention the brie from Georgia! Super friendly spot, and I strongly recommend this place. They’ve got salads and sandwiches, too.

Google
St. James Cheese Company in Tchoupitoulas is a bright, modern, clean, and inviting place. Our group of five ladies all had something different. Ordering at the counter and each paying our own made it a surprise when the food arrived. We got the salads and two sandwiches. There was plenty enough food for us to eat. I took half of my salad home to eat for dinner. I'm sorry I didn't take pictures. We were just having to much fun visiting. All in all, SJCC is a place we would visit again. I recommend it for conventioneers looking for a nearby place with fresh and tasty food at reasonable prices.

Google
My daughter treated me to a fabulous lunch on my birthday. I can not express how much I enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and, of course, the company of my daughter. The cheeses were extraordinary!

Google
The restaurant at Saint James Cheese Company is very good with good service. Inside and out door seating is available. We also like it as a market as well. They carry a very wide variety of cheeses, some we can’t find elsewhere. Even better they offer samples and will slice any amount you like. Very nice people with great service. This is definitely our go to spot for cheese.

Google
This place was beyond delicious. Amazing cheese, bread, and drinks. I got the Brie and Ham sandwich with a side salad and the tomato basil soup. I wish I could pick what was my favorite part of the meal, but it was all fantastic. Each bite was so perfect in its own way. My lunch date gor their hot mufaletta and it was so tasty. Salty and savory and perfectly toasted. Definitely come give this a try, I know I’ll be making a stop here whenever I’m in NOLA again.

Haven Talbott

Google
So delicious! The service was friendly and quick and the muffuletta sandwich was the best I’ve ever had. Lots of quality cheeses and butters to peruse while waiting.

Amanda Surdock

Google
Fantastic cheeses make for amazing sandwiches. Good sized portions for the price and great flavors

Yelp
What a delightful find to enjoy while we waited to check into our hotel. The menu offers a delightful selection of sandwiches, salads, and even a custom meat and cheese board to enjoy with fun beverage options to enjoy. I wish we had something like this at home.

Yelp
Wow Food: 5 Drink choices: 5 (Bordeaux Blanc?! - yum) Outdoor seating on a sunny Spring day: 5 Wait time when there's a huge conference down the street: call ahead if you're pressed for time We decided to stop here after for lunch after visiting the WWII museum. There was a huge (25-30 minute) line just to place our order (for a party of 6). Luckily, an outdoor table opened up and we enjoyed beverages and pimento cheese & crackers until our lunches arrived (they warned us it could be 30-40 minutes but seriously, they were slammed). The food was well worth the wait. Everything was outstandingly delicious even the salads which highlighted the cheeses. Really reasonably priced for the quality. Just plan ahead or be patient.

Yelp
If you're looking for a charcuterie board or sandwiches, this is where you should be!! Their cheese selection is diverse and artisan in its quality. They get PACKED from 11:30 to 1:30pm on the weekdays, so keep that in mind, as it took 30 minutes just to receive my sandwich. You really cant go wrong with the cheese board that you choose. Just follow your gut or what you usually are in the mood for. Go crazy and try something different. Any way you order youre gonna get a lovely cheese board! The Italian sandwich is top tier! Anyone from the northeast would be proud of everything in that sandwich. My only complaint is the ciabatta was super tough. To the point where I didn't eat the fat ends with how hard it was. Maybe this batch of bread was baked a little bit longer, or that's just how hard their ciabatta normally is. They serve zapps chips, which are fine, but I would have been more excited if they made their own potato chips. Even with some minor issues for my own preference, this place is totally worth checking out!

Yelp
If you're looking to find the best mac and cheese of your life, look no further. There's a slight smoky tang and perfectly cooked noodles. Deli sandwiches were high quality and very filling. Fast service but busy. Lots of seating options for solo diners to keep larger tables for bigger parties.
google avatar

Kathleen K.

Yelp
An excellent spot. Our current visit was post-parade. We tried a pesto, cheese and Prosciutto panini, which was excellent. The mac and cheese is always a great option with a rich cheesy flavor. The King Cake cheesecake was excellent and very rich. Service is always terrific - they only hire the best.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite stops for charcuterie and lunch in the Warehouse District. Staying nearby at the Renaissance we passed by this shop returning days later to have lunch. Thank goodness we didn't pass up St. James because the food and charcuterie were superb. From first taste you can tell their products are high quality. We opted for a custom sandwich. The ingredients were fresh and savory. Their sandwiches are big and shareable for two. We ordered one custom roast beef sandwich plus a 5-item artisan charcuterie board with 3 cheese and 2 meats. It was the right amount for both of us leaving a little left over to munch on afterwards. Seating is ample. The facilities are clean and they have a wide selection of imported stock. St. James is a bit pricey but the quality makes up for it. If we find ourselves back in NOLA, our aim is to return for their muffuletta with mac and cheese.
google avatar

Charles B.

Yelp
Definitely worth the stop. That was the tastiest Brie I've had in a while. The shop is pleasant and smells of fresh cheese and meat, heaven. Service is great, they took time to share about the cheeses, meats and accompaniments. Might stop in again before I leave town.
google avatar

Yelp
We stayed across the street and came here a few days for an early lunch. We tried the roast beef and blue cheese, ham and Brie, Italian, and muffuletta. Their sandwiches were exceptional and customer service was top notch. Roast beef was my personal favorite!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered the 3 cheese plate and a seasonal glass of rosé. Sorry I don't remember the names of any wish I would of wrote them down because the middle cheese should go home with me, but all the cheeses, spread, figs, walnuts and bread were all delicious. As was the glass of Rosé Service was friendly and speedy. There is a call in option but at 2:00 there wasn't a wait at all. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Cute little market to shop for goodies to take home. Also if your sitting outside, alone, and need a wine and bread refill, I called and they happily helped me and brought it out!

Yelp
Stopped by here for a quick sandwich to go. Not going to lie, this place smells a bit funky lol, probably because of all that cheese. I ordered the hot muffaletta - ham, salami, pepperoni, olive salad & smoked tomato aioli. They say it's a twist on the classic and it was a pressed sandwich. I ordered it with no cheese which seemed like a bit of a sin at a place called the cheese company but alas, I'm lactose intolerant. It was ready in less than 10ish minutes. It was smaller than I thought it would be but it was really flavorful and delicious. Would definitely recommend but would suggest ordering a side or some other snack because it likely won't fill you up depending on your hunger level!

Yelp
I definitely had to try a muffuletta while I was at NOLA and this place was down the street from my hotel. I stopped in for a late lunch. I arrived just a bit past 2 PM and they closed at 3 PM. So service wasn't super friendly. They make a hot muffuletta which is original to them. You place your order, they give you a number to take to your table and they bring you the food when it's ready. Food came pretty quick. Sandwich was on the small side, but it was sooo good. Far exceeded expectations. The bread was everything. Perfectly crusty and crisp. The filling was tasty. I would've gotten it again if I had stayed longer. Def worth a try!

Yelp
Cute little sandwich shop in NOLA. Great salads and sandwiches....and they have beer and wine.
google avatar

Yelp
Officially my new favorite cheese haven outside of Wisconsin. They have such a great variety of cheeses, fig jams, and nuts for all my charcuterie cravings--while also offering hard-to-find options like fondue service and duck paté. We were also blown away by the staff's knowledge of regional cheeses that were made in the South just a few states away. I was particularly impressed with the "Rogue River Blue", a unique blue cheese that was voted "world famous" a few years back. All in all, I will definitely be back to discover more cheeses and create more memories in this relaxed and well-curated space.

Yelp
Love this place and the location is convenient near the convention center for visitors. I haven't had the food yet, but the cheese case and outstanding selection of chocolates (think the whole range from luxury, ethically sourced, to weird and award-winning stuff) makes it super fun to visit each time and pick up food items to take home. Basically, on top of offering a carefully curated selection of cheese they have pretty much everything else you need of top quality, to assemble a cheese platter. They're generous and super friendly with the cheese samples too, and highly knowledgable and always have some tips/hacks to go along with it. One of my favorite stops when I'm in the area.

Yelp
A great place to get a bite while exploring NOLA! We were at Lucy's and decided we wanted soemthing to eat, and this was the perfect place to do so! There was plenty of inside and outside seating, and the place was very clean. You order at the counter and then they bring it out to you. Inside the place, there are tons of different cheeses and other things for sale, very cute concept! I ordered the ham and Brie sandwich with a side of chips and a drink. It was a bit pricey, and the sandwich didn't come with anything else, just the ham and Brie. The sandwich was delicious, but I wish it came hot instead of cold. My friend got the mozzarella panini, and that was very good. Service was a tad slow for them not being super busy, but we were so full after we ate our sandwiches that we were totally ok with it. Next time you are in NOLA be sure to give this place a try!
google avatar

Tuhin C.

Yelp
Love St. James and it's amazing for lunch! I recently had their Hot Mozzarella sandwich which was good, but I also highly recommend their salads too! One of my favorites Manchego Salad w/ Turkey - it comes with Manchego cheese, pears, sliced almonds, and vinaigrette for arula. Everything here is always so fresh, delicious, and quickly made.
google avatar

Munzer Q.

Yelp
One of the best spots in Nola to eat enjoy the wine, cheese sandos and much more. It's just darn good food from salads to charcuteries. They have amazing selection of meats cheeses pickles olives and of course tasty crusty bread. The vibe is local and welcoming. The service is excellent.
google avatar

Charles H.

Yelp
Good, but... Pretty pretentious for a place that primarily sells a commodity. Rather reminiscent of the infamous "Just Bulbs" store. Regardless it is always busy and a superior choice for those attending conventions.
google avatar

Kelly W.

Yelp
Muffuletta was THE bomb. So good. 10/10 highly recommend, walking distance from convention center.
google avatar

Sandra V.

Yelp
Found this gem on Yelp, while attending a conference in NOLA. It was a within walking distance and totally worth the stroll. You order up front and then pick a table. I chose the machego salad which had arugula greens, shaved manchego cheese, pear, prosciutto and sliced almonds. The serving size is generous, and is definitely filling. Next time, I would share the salad with a partner and swap a sandwich. The ingredients were fresh and delish. I loved the different textures in the salad that add flavor as well as some delicious sweet/savory bites. There is a lot of eye candy while you are waiting in line, as they are displays of olives, sauces, cheeses, drinks, fancy oils and jams. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. It was clean, cool and bright inside. The service was fast and friendly, and of course the food was deliciously fresh. Stop by if you have a chance.
google avatar

Yelp
St. James Cheese Company was my first meal in NOLA. I had to be at the nearby Convention Center to set up my booth and it was within walking distance. They're a cold cuts and meats storefront, but they also have sit-down and take out sandwiches. I had the Rustic Grilled Cheese prepared with Hook's 2 year aged cheddar and WildFlour sourdough bread. And also opted to add a side of mixed green salad or fries for 75 cents. I highly recommend the mixed green salad, as it really lightens up the sandwich. The grilled cheese was a very good sized portion and was super tasty. I kind of wished that I was staying at an AirBnB instead of a hotel, because I definitely would've bought some cheese! Service was nice and very friendly.

Yelp
I didn't believe in ghosts until I came to New Orleans, but I'm being haunted by the memory of a sandwich now. The sandwich wasn't even mine, I got the delicious grilled cheese with bacon, and I bought my wife the Gruyère sandwich with ham and she gave me a couple of bites. I talked about it for days afterwards, and I'm back home in Los Angeles now, thinking about how delicious that thing was. We loved our trip to New Orleans and ate at loads of great places but this one caught me off guard, I just wanted a quick place to grab lunch near our hotel and we found some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Definitely coming back next time we're in town.

Kevin P.

Yelp
I've never had anything except a wonderful lunch at this establishment. It is a little chaotic during lunchtime but the food is fressh and wonderfully tasty.
google avatar

Kerry A.

Yelp
My go to neighborhood spot for for salads, sandwiches, and cheese. I enjoy, looking through all of the import grocery items and trying new things. But above all, the service here is stellar!
google avatar

Amy E.

Yelp
The food is fresh, ambience lovely and open. We grew up in Cache Valley Utah where the best cheese curd is at Gossners. The grilled cheese we both got were good. One Gruyere and one ham and cheese. The bread was wonderful. Here are my thoughts though. Sauce it up, kick it up, make it peppy. Where is a good special pesto or sundried tomato spread or mustard for these? We also had the pickle plate which was just ok. I truly was looking forward to this one! In house made pickles. Ya, it's "pickled". So there are Brussel sprouts, cherry tomatoes, apple and slice pickle. Small portion. Truly the best part about this place is the gift and take home items. We weren't disappointed per se so much as we had higher expectations if those can be true at the same time.
google avatar

Yelp
Was headed toward Cochon Butcher when we saw this cute restaurant with outdoor seating on Tchoupitoulas. My Smokey blue cold sandwich was hearty and flavorful, the bread had a nice crunch but the mayo and fresh toppings had enough moisture. My husband got the hot muffuletta that was just as flavorful (if you like Italian meats) and had a good cheesy balance. Would love to come back and try their cheese boards.
google avatar

Aida S.

Yelp
Great cheese lovers spot! Definitely try manchego salad - arugula, sliced pears, lots of grated manchego and almonds with nice subtle dressing I added prosciutto but salad really didn't need it! Also had sliced Iberico yum perfect thinly slices of nutty flavored ham! Only thing I wasn't in love with was gruyere sandwich, it had lots of cheese which is a plus of course but since it was warm sandwich cheese melted so it became very greasy. Great cheese selection and knowledgeable staff! Will be back when we visit NOLA again!
google avatar

Misty W.

Yelp
My husband said that the muffuletta was the best one he's has so far. Service was quick and staff were friendly.
google avatar

Hayley G.

Yelp
After a few days of heavy bar food it was super refreshing to find something that felt like cleaner eating! The ham and Brie sandwich was delicious and the optional side salad was the perfect balance! The atmosphere and food reminded me of the sandwich shops in Venice; simple and flavorful.
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches, friendly staff, beer/wine and mocktails. They have a great space to meet, eat, work, or stop to cool off while enjoying New Orleans. Very cool vibe. I had the Gruyère sandwich with turkey and the side salad - really flavorful.
google avatar

Yelp
Thanks Carly for helping us select some unique cheeses to take back to Houston! I am by no means a cheese connoisseur, but I try new cheeses every chance I get. While in NOLA, I came across this store and had to check it out. They have several types to choose from, but i was drawn to the selection of goat cheeses. Luckily it was quiet and we had pleasant interactions with several staff members. One gentleman, I didn't get his name, made a great recommendation for one of my selections, and another lady offered some care tips to present and preserve a special cheese we purchased. Carly was very nice and down to earth as she carved a few samples to help us make our selections. She offered context to each cheese and we had a nice conversation, which made for a very pleasurable experience. Update: The Cheddar and O'Banon I brought back to Houston were a real hit. Even a family member that didn't eat goat cheese came back for more! And the cherry jelly (i think) was really good with it, as recommended!

Yelp
Fast casual, yummy lunch spot! Fun to sit outdoors on their street patio to enjoy a variety of freshly prepared Salads, Sandwiches, Soups or Charcuterie boards (their specialty). They also have some local craft brews and wine options to pair with your meal, cheers! Friendly service at the counter, prompt delivery of your food to your table. Overall, 4.25+ rating for food quality, prompt service and casual ambience; expect to pay ~$10-15pp for a Salad or Sandwich, or a bit more for Artisan Cheese Board creation. AND yes if you want to shop for some cheese to go, they have quite an amazing selection in their cheese fridge! We wanted a lighter lunch, so chose a cup of soup, Blueberry Hill Salad, and small side of the Mac-n-Cheese. All foods were tasty, freshly made and good quantity! The Tomato Basil soup was excellent, rich and flavorful; note I believe they rotate their soup options, so check the daily menu board. Blueberry Hill salad was a plentiful portion with fresh mixed greens, smoked chicken, sweet blueberries, marcona almonds, carrots and finely shredded aged gouda tossed with a Poppy Vinaigrette - perfect lunch size and enough to share. Mac-n-Cheese was solid, very mildly flavored and filling to eat; however I'd say not their specialty. Plenty of quality eats to choose at St. James Cheese Co. - for sure next time I will order one of their Artisan Cheese Boards to share! ENJOY!!
google avatar

Michelle G.

Yelp
Tasty!!!! Interesting specials but they run out quickly. Grilled cheese is heavy-could only eat half.
google avatar

Raymond P.

Yelp
Great little lunch spot. It was quite busy when I came in. Service is quick n fast though. The cashier recommended the muffleta and it was great.
google avatar

Dicky M.

Yelp
The muffaletta here is amazing, the olives in the salad is strongly salty but decent overall. Such friendly & knowledgeable staff on cheese with a great cozy ambiance.

Jac B.

Yelp
Had incredible mac n cheese (don't skip the crispy prosciutto), and a great charcuterie board. They cater the board to your taste (no one else ever allows for that!) and have a fantastic selection. Their bread is brought in from a bakery in NYC and tastes like a real french baguette. They also have a cute covid-style patio and we saw they have fondue happy hour.
google avatar

Rhonda Y.

Yelp
Great food! It was busy as it was lunch time but it was quickly delivered to our table. Chips are extra- $1.25 for a small bag. Bus your own tables, which it was not clear where to put the dishes but found it up front by the door.
google avatar

RICK L.

Yelp
Nice lunch spot in the CBD/warehouse district, with both a full meal menu plus a cheesemonger and charcuterie meats stop in the middle of the store, and other grab and go breads and chocolate options posted around the edges and throughout. Great proximity to the Cambria and a few other hotels in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Abby H.

Yelp
Amazing. First time in NOLA and I've kept being told I need a muffuletta and boyyyyyyyyy did this place have a fire one! Probably the best sandwich of my life, and I would eat one every day if I could. I'll be back daily until I head back home!
google avatar

Adrianna S.

Yelp
Love, love, love this spot. What a great idea- you can shop for little groceries or dine or drink! Service was great. It is a "walk up and order and we will bring it to you" place. We sat outside on a Friday night and enjoyed the perfect dinner. The 3 cheese plate was huge! Plenty for two people. The manch ego salad was delicious. The only thing we didn't care for was the pickle plate. I was literally thinking it would be a lot of pickles. The pickled Brussels sprouts were good, though. Pass on the pickles tomatoes. Overall- super affordable, friendly and delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Always fantastic! Quality and customer service! What a great gift for Christmas. The Ponchatrain box

Yelp
What a great find for lunch! I came here with a friend in December, both visiting from out of state. We shared a caprese salad and each got a sandwich, and cannot overstate how amazing the caprese was. The ball of mozzarella sitting on top was a rich creaminess that paired well with the crispy toasted bread, fragrant basil leaves, and fresh tomato. It was also a sizable plate, perfect if I had just wanted to order that for my entire lunch. The place is really cute, with items on sale and you order at the counter and find a seat with your number. Would recommend and will be back next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Karlton S.

Yelp
I'm writing this review from the restaurant right now with empty plates and the fullest belly. I've eaten lunch here for three days in a row now. Their chèvre cheesecake, il monstro and mufaletta sandwiches are incredible. The staff and ambience are all so welcoming and inviting. Truly some of the best sandwiches I've had in my life. Very unassuming location, restaurant and market that transports you to an open air Italian market on a summer day. They craft charcuterie boards to order, serve beer and wine and you're also able to purchase products your dishes are made with. Huge shoutout to Juliette and Sarah for making my experience awesome. I came in angered with a conference and the heat, Juliette immediately greeted me with a glass of iced water and Sarah took my order, offered great recommendations and allowed me a couple beers I was deciding between. Thank you!

Yelp
This place was amazing. 5 item plate and split sandwich with wife. Bread was perfect. Pate is really not my thing, but here it was great. All the little details. Go here.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing little spot for lunch. The food is simply delicious. I recommend the mushroom soup. My personal favorite. The olive plate and cheese plater is perfect to share. Absolutely can't say enough about this place. Go have a bite you won't be disappointed. Service is excellent.

Yelp
We wondered in here on our way to the convention center, and I'm so glad we did. The sweet person behind the counter made us a charcuterie board tailored to our personal cheese preferences. It was delicious and an enjoyable snack (which ended up being lunch). They have lots of fun gifts/unique foods. We sat on the couch and enjoyed our cheese, crackers and other snack items while sipping the coffee from next door. I'd come back to try the sandwiches or salads!

Claire K.

Yelp
Don't order a charcuterie platter from this restaurant. It's expensive and doesn't look like much! We sent one for a Halloween gift and were so disappointed when we arrived at their home.

Laurie K.

Yelp
The hot Gruyère w/turkey sandwich was so delicious that I am going to have to figure out how to recreate at home. It will be tough, but I'm going to crave this sandwich, and New Orleans is too far away . Loved the cheese shop too! Yum, yum. We may stop back before leaving for the airport!
google avatar

Paul W.

Yelp
Came for lunch with a friend and we both had the Cantal salad. It was very good and did not raise my blood sugar at all! I am a diabetic and have to watch my sugar. The service was quick, even though they were busy for lunch. I was even able to park on the street - although this place is better to walk to than drive. Recommended and will probably be back.

Yelp
I brought my quiz bowl team here on Memorial Day weekend. Immediately, the staff at St. James Cheese company greeted us and started working to make sure we could sit together. We didn't even ask for this because it seemed an unreasonable request to make-- but the staff did it anyway. Then, we got the most amazing food quickly and with beautiful plating and presentation. Sometimes it is tough to find a good place to feed the team because of multiple dietary restrictions, but St. James Cheese Company had something for everyone. Everything we ate was impeccable. The butter plate for an appetizer was delicious and unexpected. The cheesecake topped off the meal immaculately. I wish we had a restaurant like this back home. The next time I come to New Orleans, this place tops my list to return! I'd share a pic of the food but I was too busy doing the happy food dance to remember to take a picture.
