15 Best Charlotte, North Carolina, Coffee Shops | Eater Carolinas

"South End is lucky to have Stable Hand. There’s a lot of great food and bev options in South End, but there’s also not, and Stablehand speaks to the former, adding a bit of funk — natural wine and Japanese kabocha squash latte funk — to an otherwise sterile and chain-y area. From the same team behind Hex Coffee, this cafe tucked into a mini-plaza is a quiet respite, not because it’s empty, but instead because it is in fact packed with focused remote workers and their laptops during the week. On the weekends though, rail-trail walkers, friend hangs, and the plethora of natural wine bottles and craft beers add a buzzy, boozy oomph. The polished pour-overs air on the light, bright side and don’t really require cream or sugar, and the seasonal beverages, like this fall’s brown sugar rosemary latte, are warming delicacies, not excessively spiced or sweet. Balance the caffeine with an extensive, non-basic brunch menu, like the chorizo biscuit, miso-tofu breakfast sandwich, or the smoked mushroom porridge." - Kayleigh Ruller

Google
A delightful coffee shop, decorated in a rather spartan manner. On a Friday morning, quite peaceful as I enjoyed my second coffee of the day. I love coffee shops that have a cortado on the menu. It tells me that they're not one of those button pushing baristas like at the Green Siren people. No, this is real coffee and real art. Served in the proper short glass, this coffee was excellent. Sitting with my laptop and able to pound out a few emails and maybe even a Yelp review, this was a great little space for working. A very enjoyable morning indeed.

Google
Nice little modern coffee shop with a variety of food, baked goods, and coffee. I ordered the brown sugar rosemary latte which was so smooth and comforting. I also got an avocado toast and a blueberry muffin. The avocado toast was a work of art and the egg was poached perfectly. Everything was balanced well and there was a nice little kick from the hot sauce that was drizzled on top. The blueberry muffin was moist, and they had other baked goods that looked amazing too. There was a consistent stream of customers cycling through so it definitely seems like a recognized spot in the neighborhood.

Google
The perfect coffee shop for people who want to get some work done. There are tons of outlets!! And single 2 person tables. The place was very airy and open. Chill music in the background. Sadly, they were out of baked goods when I arrived at 1 pm :( but my LATTE!!! I got a brown sugar and rosemary latte, it was the seasonal, thinking i would be adventurous, and it was incredible. There was even a hint of salt on top. Fantastic froth despite being an oat milk latte. Will be returning next time I’m in Charlotte!

This was such a great experience! When you walk in, the space is so open, and they have lots of seating inside and out. I luckily went on a day it was warmer, so I already knew I wanted to sit outside. I order the Cheesy-Toastie, Crispy Potatoes, and House Spritz. The spritz was so refreshing and smooth! I loved every second of it and recommended it to the woman next to me. My cheesy toastie was perfectly toasted, and this cheese perfectly melted. Every bite melted in my mouth. The crispy potatoes and the aioli were the perfect pairing for the day. Can’t wait to bring my friends back!

Google
I was craving a good cup of coffee and this hit the spot. Our hot and iced coffees were both delish! We also got breakfast sandwiches. The portions were small, but it was exactly what we were looking for. It was also the perfect place to bring your laptop and work. We will be back!

Google
One of my favorite places to cowork! There’s usually plenty of seating, and there’s food, coffee, and wine to keep me going 💪

Google
This was delicious. I loved the PBJ probably because I love brioche. There was a coupon issue but it was quickly resolved. They made a great suggestion and while the vanilla latte was supposed to be hot, the universe decided it should be cold. The universe was correct and I was wrong 😂 This interior is a little dark on an overcast day but I love that there are dogs on the patio outside.

Kristopher K

Google
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. I got their Brown Sugar Rosemary Latte (Iced) and it’s one of the best lattes I’ve ever had. A must-go if you’re in the area for sure ☕️

Yelp
Stable Hand has become one of my favorite coffee shops in Charlotte! I had their seasonal orange cardamom cappuccino. The coffee was excellent with it having a smooth flavor. The roast used that day was medium but they use a variety of Hex coffee beans. I thought the orange cardamom flavoring was present while not being overly sweet. The inside of Stable Hand is extremely cute. I would love to come back for one of their wine nights.

Yelp
This is such a great spot to cowork with friends! On this trip I tried their yogurt bowl and a vanilla matcha latte and both were extremely YUMMY! They also made them so beautifully it was fun taking pictures of them. This place is super chill and there always seems to be a table available. The staff is great and their menu is pretty cool too. I really enjoy coming here to get work done and have a great cup of coffee and small snack. Parking is usually a breeze too, and that's saying a lot for South End.

Yelp
It is rare that I try a place and it is so tasty that I am looking for a reason to return. But the coffee stayed on my mind. The yogurt was good and thick and I was actually satisfied . Not big on bread so I ate the egg and spinach but the coffee was simply the best part.

Yelp
Stopped by this lovely little coffee shop for a quick jolt of caffeine and a snack. They provided me a refreshing iced oat-milk latte and some hot candied pecans lighting fast! Such a great little treat and the actual location was roomy with enough room to plug in a laptop to get some work done or meet some friends for a casual chat. Very nice cashier and good overall vibes.

Yelp
Cute place tucked away right off of south blvd. Perfect place to WFH. I always get their brown sugar rosemary latte. Baristas are very friendly and the prices are reasonable.
google avatar

Nikole R.

Yelp
Tasty food, plenty of seating, delicious coffee. Will definitely stop back by, there were plenty of WFHs & space for it, about 6 2 tops along the wall with plugs under each for convenience. Didn't notice any music and ppl aren't generally chatty. Food was well flavored and I enjoyed it. Portion size was just right for breakfast. The staff was kind and helped me make the right decision about my coffee choice as I'm not a huge sweet coffe drinker but there options were cute, the Rose & miso caramel looked interesting - maybe another day.

Yelp
Didn't love this coffee shop. To be fair, I don't drink coffee but love sitting on patios and catching up on my work and reviews. It was pretty warm outside so I got an iced chai latte with oat milk. The staff member wasn't necessarily helpful or welcoming. I said I'm not a coffee drinker and was looking over the menu to see my other options and he kind of just stood there. Getting an iced chai here is not a good idea. The cup is a standard size but it was filled to the brim with ice and and had absolutely no chai taste. If anything it was like I was drinking cinnamon oat milk. Maybe a plus for some but not what I was expecting that for $6.50. My boyfriend got the 8oz house coffee and was disappointed because it wasn't hot. The inside was full so we sat on the patio for a little bit closer to the dog shop. Those tables aren't covered so we didn't get to stay long. Too much laptop glare. Based on the location I can see how this place can get and stay busy but it just wasn't for me.

Yelp
Stable Hand is a cute little coffee shop to drop by or stay a while. They have a wide variety of lattes, and were very good; they use Hex coffee. I loved that they offered hot chocolate for the kids and ensured the milk wasn't too hot. On a Saturday, they were pretty busy, and seating is limited. We ultimately opted out of trying the food because we had planned to sit down, but there wasn't anything available. This wouldn't be as much of any issue during warmer months as they have ample outside seating! Parking wasn't difficult and the staff was very nice. All in all, it was pretty good and a new shop I tried thanks to an Offline Charlotte Deal. The food looked like it was good for breakfast and may have to try that if I visit in the future.

Yelp
A great location if you are looking to work remotely for the day. Plenty of space, tables/chairs and plugs for your laptops. The drinks are surprisingly large which is a plus in my book ! I got a matcha and it was delicious and very smooth ! The only negative I would say are the restrooms. They need some TLC and a good cleaning !
google avatar

Carol R.

Yelp
The strawberry biscuit on the afternoon menu is amazing! It's like an elevated boberry biscuit.

Yelp
Stable Hand has quickly become my new favorite spot to grab breakfast and a coffee. Its a cute, little place with homey vibes on the inside, making it a great place to work from home. The service is always great with super friendly staff. They offer seasonal beverages and items on the menu year round. I dream about the overnight oats. It's not an exaggeration when I say Stable Hand's overnight oats are the best I have ever had!
google avatar

Melissa R.

Yelp
A cute cafe with okay service. Visited Stable Hand in the morning, not too crowed and a good amount of staff working. The first thing I noticed was that the cashier would not make eye contact and was not being attentive to our order. Our drinks and food came out and the order was wrong. A second cashier retook our order and remade our drinks. The meals were not corrected. The savory porridge was good and had a slight kick to it. The sausage and egg breakfast sandwich was also really good (it also has peppers and onions). The coffee was good too. Just wish the service was a bit better!
google avatar

Maddie R.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting stable hand and definitely won't be the last time! The service was excellent and the food was fresh. I ordered the B.L.T. and an iced dirty chai latte with oat milk.

Annise C.

Yelp
Stopped here this morning for a vanilla latte and strawberry basil biscuit. The place has a very open airy feel and pretty quiet - lots of people on their computers or having quiet conversations. The coffee flavor was very good and not overly sweet. The biscuit was delicious with fresh strawberries and basil. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Kendall C.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop in Charlotte!! Love the draft vanilla latte and staff is always friendly!

Yelp
The service is friendly, patient, and efficient. I had the Brown Sugar Rosemary Latte. It was fabulous!

Yelp
I was in the mood for a hot Latte, and Matcha...and I remembered just how good the Matcha Latte was here when I tried out this place during a Yelp event last year. Sure enough, their Matcha Latte was DEE-Lish...maybe even more so than I had remembered! Again, I loved the gorgeous color of this Latte...and the fancy Latte artwork as well. Definitely Instagrammable! I hit this place around 1 pmish, and it was fairly packed. Am wondering if they plan on adding more tables and chairs in the future. The place is rather spacious, so it seems possible to expand. There were a few misses though. Like, where was the music? This is a coffee bar/lounge...and I felt that (cool) overhead music should have been a requirement. Maybe it was on too low, but I just don't recall hearing ANY music. The lack of music somewhat made me feel stiff and uncomfy while sipping my Latte, alongside a row of strangers. I felt that they definitely missed the mark here. Another disappointment was to see that they didn't have any pastries or any snack item even on sale. Huh?? Normally, I would have docked a star (or 2?) for the lack of overhead music and/or not having my beloved pastries and/or other snacks...BUT their cup of hot Matcha Latte was SO good, I just couldn't. Honestly, I think it was THE best hot Latte I've ever had (counting the ones I've had in bigger cities and countries)! Anyway, can't wait to return for my next cup! I just hope that the overall experience there will be more pleasant next time...with music AND dessert??

Yelp
The vibe is very strong here. I had time to kill from flying in to Charlotte before I could check in to my hotel and I'm so thankful for this recommendation! Coffee: 8/10 Atmosphere: hip & modern Staff: helpful Highly recommend if you're in south end.
google avatar

Katrina S.

Yelp
Yum! My sister loves taking us here when we're in town and we always remember why after that first sip of coffee. The coffee is delicious and the food pairs perfectly. We stopped in for the Brekky Sando, PB&J Tartine, Oat Milk Latte, Matcha Latte, and Peppermint Mocha. Everything was 10/10! The sandwich had the perfect amount of flavor that nothing needed to be added and the the coffees were phenomenal. This is a must try!
google avatar

Shay N.

Yelp
Got the vanilla latte & breakfast sandwich!! Love this place always great service & good coffee / food

Emily R.

Yelp
A cute place to sit & sip alone or with friends! The coffee is well made and many good flavor combinations are offered. Their menu has a little something for everyone
google avatar

Yelp
Came in for a late day Cortado and it was so tasty. Barista got the crema perfect so it blended with the milk. Excellent service.

Yelp
This is a cute little coffee/wine shop that has plenty of parking for the area. I will definitely return. Went to visit on a Saturday morning after our E2M workout at Freedom Park. I had the vanilla iced latte and the sausage and egg breakfast sandwich. The latte was good-not too sweet which I can appreciate. The sausage and egg breakfast sandwich was also really good but I wasn't a huge fan of the peppers and onions. Next time I will order it without. Definitely a nice little spot to hang out and get some work done or just people watch. Thanks Offline for another great spot!

Yelp
Stopped in here for a coffee and bite to eat. What a cute coffee shop! the space has an airy, bright modern decor, plenty of seating and thought selection of food, wine, coffees and craft beers. The vibe is chill, the staff is friendly and the menu- although limited- is fresh, thoughtful and delicious, so you don't need much more. There's plenty of parking outside. I'd certainly suggest checking out Stable Hand if you haven't already!
google avatar

Alexandra W.

Yelp
Realized I haven't written about Stable Hand! Hubby and I stopped by over the summer to have a glass of wine and loved the new layout and feel of this space (even though we sat outside LOLz). Was also here on a Saturday with a larger group of women, and their communal tables are great. Lovely vibe with excellent coffee/tea selections, plus, wine. And also appreciate that they carry unsweetened matcha :):):) One wish: they offered a few other pastries that were GF, very few shops do, and this would definitely be awesome.
google avatar

Tyler G.

Yelp
Thank you, Stable Hand! I enjoyed a dirty vanilla chai with the cutest latte art. This coffee shop is comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and has great tunes (one of my favorite songs even played!). You can easily chat with a friend or enjoy some work. Dakota Aiyanna, a local black artist, did the mural in here.
google avatar

Alicia R.

Yelp
Loved this cafe! So many great food options and the drinks were amazing. Not to mention everything was very affordable. I highly recommend added the potatoes to any of your breakfast options. I can't wait to come back and try some of their lunch options
google avatar

Yelp
I need to go to this coffee shop more often! I've been a few times since they've open and have always been impressed. It is situated in the middle of SouthEnd and right off the lightrail. I love how they have their own parking lot and I haven't had an issue so far snagging a spot. The interior is clean and simple with ample amount of seating. They have outdoor seating as well. It is a perfect place to work or to hangout with friends. I have yet to try their food items but their drinks have always been delicious. My go-to drinks are usually a Dirty Chai Latte or an Oat Milk Cappinccino. Staff is always friendly and they have unisex bathrooms. My friends and I worked there once and it was great! They have these large tables by the window and fast WiFi. I also love how it's not very loud in there. Highly recommend this spot!
google avatar

Madison H.

Yelp
Great iced and hot coffee! Really cute but small coffee shop. Super laid back with really nice workers. Little wine selection too
google avatar

Kristena Y.

Yelp
The latte was good. Espresso was smooth and milk had a nice foam. I also ordered an orange cardamom sweet bun that was a warm bun with a nice frosting and candied orange on top. The service was pleasant but I would not recommend if you are in a hurry. This would be a good place to meet and friend and chat. Not too loud and a very warm, welcoming feeling.
google avatar

Ashley U.

Yelp
This place is a pleasant surprise. First of all it's hidden and hard to see from the street. I would've never found this place if it wasn't my monthly Offline offer. Also not a menu I would typically be interested in....there a lot of porridge and pastries. The inside is so bright and clean and the staff was friendly and welcoming. The cold brew was good but kind of a smaller glass. They have lattes on tap that looked good. I decided to try the savory porridge--I've never had porridge in my life and it sounds like baby food to me but omg it was life changing. The flavors the came out of this bowl were just overwhelmingly good. It was very sweet chili/miso/garlicish. Yum!

Audrey H.

Yelp
Simply the best coffee I've ever had. I'm from Phoenix and am considering a move to Charlotte just so I can experience a Stablehand vanilla latte daily.
google avatar

Josh C.

Yelp
We just moved to the Charlotte area and have been trying the local coffee shops. Would love to give this place more stars but there were a few issues I had. 1. The cashier was a bit rude, not what I expect at a craft coffee shop 2. The hot oat latte we had may as well have been iced, it was the most Luke warm coffee I've ever had Overall, it's great espresso, but that comes more down to the roaster than to anything else. Maybe they were having a bad day so I'll come again, but for now, 3 stars it is.
google avatar

Siobhan S.

Yelp
Solid little casual spot for coffee and brunch. We ordered some iced coffees, rice porridge and a chorizo biscuit that was super yummy to-go. Both items were still quite warm when we got home and very flavorful which was great.

Hannah W.

Yelp
Stable Hand is usually my favorite breakfast spot. Lately, they have been SO off. The best item on the menu is the savory porridge, but the last couple times I've come in they've been out of porridge. The employees seem to be in a bad mood and unapologetic for being out of staple items. When I asked if a coffee item was in stock, they said it's out but didn't offer any alternative options. I got the breakfast sandwich and it was so small. Disappointed by my experiences here lately!
google avatar

Ellie Q.

Yelp
Best vegetarian sandwich I've ever had, and the staffs are always nice. I also love the sweet rice porridge.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
I love coming here! The vibes are so relaxed and the space is beautiful. I usually order a bottle of wine to share. They offer organic natural wines that are not sugared up. I also love their coffee drinks because they develop incredible seasonal favors that I've never seen anywhere else. The food is great, I have tried almost everything on the menu which also rotates with the seasons. Don't miss this spot to sip and snack and vibe.
google avatar

Marina N.

Yelp
This place is so cute and the decor was very well thought of! If you vibe with minimalistic decor, then this is your place. I came in the late afternoon and was still able to find a seat. I love that their outlets are right under the table. I would say that their music is somewhat loud and makes it distracting to do work that requires your attention. They have pastries on the counter for sale... I wonder if they'll taste stale since they're out in the open. As for the drinks, I got a matcha latte and it was really pretty! The matcha latte itself was still a bit powdery and I could feel it on my lips when I was drinking it. But overall, this place was super cute and a good place to go do busy work or hang out and have a chat with friends!!
google avatar

Casey W.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop! The art on the walls on the inside is awesome. I stopped here after a long walk and got the warm apple biscuit with whipped cream and it was DELICIOUS! Definitely want to come back and try other things on the menu. They also have beer and wine! Was easy to find a seat since it was nice out but pretty busy on the inside.
google avatar

Juliana D.

Yelp
Love the minimalist design of this coffee shop! The best part is the unique and colorful walls. They add a nice pop of color to the shop without being tacky. This is a very instagramable place where you can take fun pictures with friends. I ordered the iced vanilla latte and it was very good. I will definitely be back to try other coffees and food item. They also sell beer and wine, so I may try those too. This is a great place to meet up with friends and even get some work done too.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
My barista was a slender blonde with ink up her arms. She had a passion for coffee and made just enough connection to make me feel welcome while still being time-efficient. The coffee was brewed perfectly and the serving size was delightful. I'm a "hot, black, and bitter" kinda guy, so I don't love a lot of liquid with my go-power. Great vibe in the room, VERY busy, so that was a great sign, and the price point was A-OK. All in all? An excellent experience. I look forward to getting my afternoon pick-me-up when I'm back in the neighborhood from Stable Hand.
google avatar

Lakisha M.

Yelp
I love a quaint little coffee shop and this one is now on my list. I admit I didn't know or hear about this until a Yelp Elite Perk came about. It is so cool inside and actually outside as well. You can sit and observe the scenery of South End. And this stuffed bacon biscuit is so good. So good!!! And the prices are not gonna break your pockets. Even better!!!
google avatar

Cynthia G.

Yelp
Stable Hand has quickly become my favorite coffee shop in Charlotte. Their latte is delicious! I got mine with almond milk. It's right off the light rail and perfect for a morning cup of coffee after walk/run. I've only ordered coffee-to-go, but I'd love to sit there sometime to do some work!
google avatar

Kaitlin K.

Yelp
Coffee is good! Overall there's a few folks that work there that are really short and rude. Although the coffee is good I would recommend another place in south end
google avatar

Kayleigh K.

Yelp
Had to get some coffee after dropping my pups off for grooming in South End, and like any good Charlottean, I looked for a local place place to support. I didn't have to look far. Good Bottle on Remount opened a small coffee addendum a while back, and more recently they shifted to just coffee. Anyways, they have a simple coffee bar menu with "brekky and lunch-ish" foods. I opted for a vanilla latte with their house vanilla, but was very tempted to try the seasonal flavor, which included tonic. Probably too much for my early morning palate, but next time for sure. If you need to mix up your coffee and breakfast routine, do not overlook these guys. Super nice, knowledgeable about their product, and happy to chat. PS- they have taken all of the appropriate measures for covid management- plastic screens up, masks at all times, demarcated "6 feet apart" lines, and their register is contactless. My stamp of approval. Still need local beer and wine? Don't worry, they have it. Just a lot less, so I'm assuming their picks are incredibly well thought out. The few beers I browsed included Resident Culture and Fonta Flora. I will be back!
google avatar

Elise W.

Yelp
Witnessed a guy filling up his dogs bowl directly from the water tap at the coffee bar which is absolutely abhorrent. The coffee was fine, but I can't believe the staff let him directly touch the dogs slobber bowl to the spigot - that should be a health code violation if it isn't already.
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
Spent a great Sunday afternoon here catching up on work. The staff is friendly and the interior is very cute. I love that they have indoor and outdoor seating. It's a great place to come any time of day because they serve alcohol in addition to coffee and breakfast. I had an iced latte and a delicious sausage breakfast sandwich.
google avatar

Annie Z.

Yelp
Great spot with cool music and friendly service. There was an issue with my order and they made it right immediately. Food was good too!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
This location has undergone some changes since I first moved to the neighborhood and for me a lot of the magic is gone. Originally this was a bottle shop with rows and rows of obscure and hard to find craft beers. Eclectic looking bottles with ingredients you would never think to find in a beer. They also had a small bar in the back with a few taps making it a viable place to hang out. Eventually they removed some shelve space and allowed Hex Coffee to operate inside as well. I was a little thrown off by this as the two didn't seem like a natural fit but I really enjoyed the draft vanilla latte from Hex and I grew to accept its presence there. After this final transformation all semblance of a bottle shop is gone. I saw one lonely shelf with beer on it but besides that there was hardly anything that indicated it was more than a coffee shop. The interior is what some would call minimalist but to me it looked the same as every other coffee shop. I came here with some friends since they wanted coffee and I wanted beer so I figured this would serve both our needs. We had to wait in a long line and the people making coffee were the same ones pouring beer so after I placed my order I had to wait for them to finish making several coffee drinks before they would serve me a beer. Then my friends had to wait for their coffee drinks which took quite some time and I started to wonder what the point of even ordering the beer was. My friends did not enjoy their drinks. After we all finished I kind of wanted another beer but I didn't want to wait in line and go through that ordering process all again so we just shrugged it off and left. I think they should just fully embrace that they are a coffee shop now. There is no semblance of a bar or even a bottle shop atmosphere so there isn't really a point to have beer. Before it felt like a relaxing place to sit but now it seems hurried with lines of people just coming in to grab coffee and not much seating room. This concept may still do well with the trendy South End crowd but for me it just felt like a waste of time. I don't think I will be back.
