28 Houston Burgers to Add to Your Bucket List

"Helmed by chef Joseph Boudreaux, this local underground smash burger sensation has no concrete home in Houston. Instead, diners looking to sink their teeth into their homemade patties — often topped with thick slices of cheese, pickles, grilled onions, and a special sauce — will have to catch Boos if they can at their next pop-up stop. Recent pitstops have been places like Bad Astronaut Brewing, and more of Boudreaux’s creations are on the way. Stay tuned on the Boos Burgers website and Instagram for announcements about their first-come, first-serve pop-ups and options to pre-order to solidify your burger." - Brittany Britto Garley

Google
Honestly it's a casual place to get a quick bite. The burgers are quality and worth the price and won't break the bank. The lady at the counter was nice.

Google
Excellent mid sized burger. Super crisp fried. Small patio to eat on.

Google
All the hype about this place. Ordered two eggs sausage breakfast. Egg amount is small. Doesn't look like 2 eggs. No egg taste. Too much water. Sausage is not homemade. It is reheated frozen sausage. For the google rating, I was expecting it to be better than McDonald's. It is worse and more expensive than breakfast from McDonald's. And no inside seating. I was carrying two cups of coffee. Didn't want to sit outside. On my way home, one cup of coffee toppled over, spilled on my t shirt. Not going back.

Google
I used to work close by and visited constantly from December 2019-March 2023. I remember the food being good, the service being quick, the price being reasonable, and sitting on the patio to enjoy my meal. I was back in the area in February 2025 and decided to come here. And not much ha changed; it's still outdoor seating, still good food, but...one of the doors was covered in plywood from the inside, and the outside glass half was broken. I placed an order for a burger ADD bacon (was told it would be extra), fries, drink for a total of $13.66. I added a tip. And sat to wait for my meal. There was a group of two that were eating, a group of three waiting for their order, a single person (they were just sitting there). The group of three got their order and as my order was called, another person arrived in a dirty hospital gown and pants, wearing a faded hospital bracelet, and offered to sell a gold chain to the single person and then to the group of three. The group of two left. Then, this person approached me (which is why i noticed the details). They didn't offer to sell me the gold chain but did ask if I would buy them a meal. I agreed. They ordered a burger, plain, fries with lots of ketchup, and a cup of water. The total for their order was $13.36. And that is the reason I included that part. The burger place does not give you an itemized receipt. They just tell you the amount. And after you pay you get a stubs with that amount on it. I don't understand how there's only a $0.30 difference between our meals, if mine included bacon (which is an additional charge) and a soft drink and theirs didn't. I didn't complain or say anything. I paid, enjoyed my meal and so did they. I went back today but, it's raining and i don't want to sit outside on a wet bench (you can't go inside, you order at the window). So, I left. But, it reminded me enough that I decided to leave a review. I did like the food. It was a good portion of hot fries, the burger was juicy and had a good amount of toppings. The soda was a can soda and I drink a lot so, I finished it before I got halfway to the end of my meal.

Google
When you first walk in the store you get that sense of how creative and unique the place is, there was graffiti on the walls and crazy designs it looked amazing, you can also smell the goodness in the air it was so delightful. There service was lovely they greeted me with loving arms, like I was a regular there which felt great they sat me down to my table and told me what I would like to order. I must say they had great seats very clean and tidy also very comfortable It was great, they also had a well organized menu with a bunch of food items. I really didn't know what to try, so I asked the waiter to bring me what ever he recommended as long as it was good. After about a 7 minute wait the food arrived, it smelt so good I was in awe the waiter brought out a big filled loaded burger, with onion rings melted cheese a juicy patty and a shiny bun with a side of fries and coke. when I first bit into the burger I was in heaven, it was amazing after I finished eating the waiter brought me napkins, and I had to tip him for giving me this amazing food I would definitely recommend going here.

First, know that you probably don't want to go there while it's raining because everything is outside. There is no indoors to this: you order food at an outside (walk-up) window and sit outside on benches to eat there. There is no bathroom. It's small, but technically a wheelchair could roll in back there through the door facing the parking lot. (There's a ramp and door facing St. Joseph St, but that door is locked and customers can't enter, so wheelchairs can't use it.) So if it's 100 degrees outside you would probably want to get food to go. The first time, I was there to eat breakfast food. The best thing was the breakfast croissant, which was excellent. Skillet potatoes, eggs, sausage, grits, toast also good. The second time I tried the mushroom swiss sandwich and fries, it was very tasty and the lady was nice.

Google
We were looking for something to eat close to our hotel. We came across this place and it was amazing! The burgers are really good and cooked well. My daughter and I had cheeseburgers. Her friend had cheesesteak fries, which were so good. There is only outside seating, but they had tables under shade to make it more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for somewhere to get a burger or cheesesteak fast.

R. M.

Google
The burger was savory. Despite not visiting this location in a year, the quality of the food remains exceptional. I ordered the single burger with cheese and a fried egg. 🤤

Rashard W.

Yelp
The best burger spot in HOUSTON!! I love these people lol. Great generous people ima regular customer so. Ofc they are going to appreciate me but they are overly GREAT at this establishment. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Food: Delicious burger and fries. 5 stars Service: Friendly and fast service. But needs to slow down. 4 stars Ambiance: Outdoor deck seating only. The small table in front seemed more of an obstruction than anything helpful. 3 stars Overall: 4 stars

Yelp
My fav downtown burger joint! Tiny burger place with outdoor seating. Order at the window, food comes out hot and made to order. Worth the wait, fries are very good, burger is wrapped and easy to hold and eat. Parking is tight as it is shared with the school next door. Owners are very friendly and remembers your name. Tiny bldg. has fabulous graffiti artwork too!
google avatar

Rolando N.

Yelp
Very good breakfast sandwich. Cooked fresh with plenty of bacon and sausage. Also love that the egg is not scrambled. Service can be a little slow when they are busy but it's worth the wait.

Jesse C.

Yelp
Im going to be honest, not being from Houston and waiting at the government building nearby. I was skeptic about eating restaurants downtown out of fear, but this place is fast, good price, and good. Definitely would come back and would recommend people if you are in the area!

Yelp
"That is what you call a burger", is what I said after I sinked my teeth into the 1st bite after. It had me looking at the burger shaking my head up & down smiling like a little the burger was talking back to me saying "yeah I know you like that". I was very pleased with this burger. A must try especially for burger lovers ! Fries were good too, nice & seasoned. The fountain drink that I got which was sprite was very bubbly & flavorful. It's nothing like when people make sure their fountain machines are clean! Stack burger is a must try burger!

Yelp
Ordered this off of a delivery app, longing for a good burger. 10/10. It's so good. No, it's spectacular. It's so tasty. It's exactly like that other burger place from California but, actually, it might be better. It's 10:00 PM and I long for this burger.

LaMia ..

Yelp
Extremely upset that there was a whole napkin in on my burger. I'm disgusted. The food is usually pretty good. Make sure you check before you bite

Yelp
Over the years I've taken some FLAK I've been told that my mind has just one TRACK Something about doing something or other in the SACK And heading down to the old tin roof love SHACK But whoever said that really doesn't know JACK See there's some knowledge that those critics LACK That me without food is like cheese without MAC Knowing great hidden food gems is the new BLACK And for downtown's best burger I'll award the PLAQUE To the cheap juicy ones at this place called STACK WHAT This is a lovely little burger place right in downtown Houston, and it seems very unique and original, serving some Vietnamese goodies and some pretty cool cheap large burgers for lunch to the lunch crowd, and it's these kind of little unique, locally owned family friendly places which should be celebrated and kept alive, and that's why I'm giving it a 5-star rating. There are some Better Burgers in town, nearby Lankford for one, but it's also better here at Stack than a lot of the others, and their whole menu is worth exploring. And if they opened up one in Moscow, it'd be "Stack In The USSR." And if Mark Morrison did a song about this burger it'd be "Return Of The Stack (it is!)". OK this isn't working. I'll quit while I'm significantly behind. And once you go Stack, you never go Back.

Thuỳ P.

Yelp
The cutest owner I have ever met and the food is good too. Gotta try the Vietnamese coffee

Yelp
After all the years of living in Houston we still love coming to to Stack Burger. Their breakfast is super fresh and delicious! Our favorites are the croissants with sausage and cheese, and their breakfast tacos are good sized and delicious as well! A must get is their Vietnamese Iced Coffee! Maybe one of the best in Houston!! Since the pandemic they didn't have their baguettes for their Bahn Mis but their back! The Bulgolgi is out of this world! The fries are delicious as well! I've never had their burger but have heard good things. The couple running it are super sweet and the old lady who takes orders knows my girlfriend by name and always strikes up a convo when we visit! Their inside lobby is closed but you order from the outside window. As long as we are in Houston we will continue to patron Stack Burger! A Houston staple!

Ruth I.

Yelp
One of my favorite burgers in houston. The fries are a bit thicker cut but I ask for them to be fried extra crispy which makes them perfect. Also the woman who's always at counter is such a sweetheart.
google avatar

Catherine P.

Yelp
I got the cheeseburger on my work lunch break, and it was so yummy. Prices are fair, and the lady who works there is very kind. Be aware that there is no place to eat, and you must take it to go. Overall, great burger, I'd eat there again.
google avatar

Yelp
Small but the burgers pack a punch! The service is good depending on the number of customers at the time. Ambiance is good depending on the weather, no indoor seating.

Yelp
Nothing from this place makes any sense. This burger was hands down one of the best burgers I've had in a while, it was so flavorful but not extravagant, so juicy and well seasoned, just perfection. It's what in-n-out wishes it was. And then....very very reasonably priced, on the cheap side I might add. The cashier lady was super super nice and my order took no more than 6 mins. To top it off there was free parking right in front of it IN DOWNTOWN HOUSTON! I could not believe why this place didn't have a line of customers. (I was the only one) mine you i did show up 10 mins before they closed. Even then, no hesitation or this crap restaurants do of not wanting to serve close to closing time. Man I'm still in shock. I'm so glad I found this gem. Why it's not the talk of the town is beyond me. I got the double cheeseburger all the way, some fries, a hot dog ( I only took 1 or 2 bites cuz I was stuffed).

Michelle L.

Yelp
The couple who owns this business are super friendly and will get the orders correct. The food is great with a good variety. It's painted exterior, and paintings inside are all by local talent. Highly recommended,
google avatar

Yelp
When I come to visit my boyfriend at Rice and get off the bus we walk over to this location and grab lunch. I haven't been here in a while but wanted to review to say that it was delicious. There's a small amount of outdoor seating and the location is convenient.

Richard A.

Yelp
The food there is exceptional! I I recommend the burgers. Spectacular they look as good as they taste. Everytime Mr Kim can cook. My favorite place to get a burger Fast. Friendly, delicious.. Mrs Kim is the best!!
google avatar

Delvin B.

Yelp
THESE BURGERS ARE GREAT !!! The american portion of food is always expected to be large portions.. the burgers are not big but they are great small burgers. They are the perfect size and great tasting.. I really like the french fries also !!

Es D.

Yelp
Amazing food 1000/10 from the breakfast to the burgers, great service as well. Come try stack burger!

Yelp
I was looking for late lunch spot in downtown Houston after hotel check-in. Lots of restaurants both on street level and in the "underground" seem to close by 2-2:30pm. Luckily, Yelp led me to Stack Burger. Stack Burger is literally a tiny little shack with some funky art. Kind of odd considering its located next to a school and surrounded by office buildings. Its a pop-up style restaurant where there's only room inside to order and pay. Eating is either takeout or on the wooden benches outside, which is also painted with funky art. The menu offers traditional burger, hot dogs, fries, Philly Cheesesteaks, and Mexican and Asian-inspired baguette sandwiches with items like Korean Bulgogi. You can also get Vietnamese Iced Coffee, though I do not remember seeing banh mi on the menu. The Spicy Chicken Baguette is solid. Soft, fluffy torpedo-shaped roll stuffed with grilled chicken, jalapeños, bell pepper, and onions. Great flavors, not overwhelmingly spicy, and definitely not drowning in sauce. The fries were straight out of the fryer (HOT!), and were thick, well-seasoned, and crispy. A great place for a quick bite at under $10.

Nahuel A.

Yelp
Service is speedy and friendly. Food is as real as it gets. Deliciously hot fresh food fairly priced with a good menú option.
google avatar

Josue A.

Yelp
So glad I found this gem in downtown! Literally one of the best burgers I've had in a while. The bulgogi fries were bomb too. Everything tasted very fresh and lettuce had a nice crisp. The beef was very flavorful and the cheese was melted into it perfectly. I recommend ordering some extra snatch sauce on the side. The lady that took our order was very friendly. I'll definitely be coming back soon!
google avatar

Arjun M.

Yelp
Burger is great. But she charged me $1.50 for a mask that costs her $.05. That's ridiculous.

Yelp
Some places you can pass by, see it out the corner of an eye and never know what you just glanced at. This is one of those spots. In fact I was at the office one day searching for a good burger spot in the area and this place came up. After looking at the address and photos I just could not invision where I saw all the weird art at on the side of the building I noticed it wasn't so far away so I ordered for pick up. A double stack with cheese and fries. Quick and easy. I head there and once I arrived, remembered that I had seen it before. I've passed it by a number of times never knowing it was a burger spot. The burger was fresh and made to order. For a double it wasn't huge but for the price and especially for lunch, it was the perfect size. One bite was all it took before I was satisfied with my order. I knew at bite one that I was going to want another. So for the taste... I could down two of those doubles and cancel all remaining meetings for the day and do a power nap. I definitely recommend this spot for a quick burger downtown. If you go, make sure to download the app and order before you get there. That way you can bypass the line and pickup at the walk up window. This place has no drive thru. It's a great place to walk to and enjoy a sunny day out for lunch if you're near the area. Double up and prosper.

Brian R.

Yelp
My burger was fresh and very hot. I loved it!! I've ordered three more times since and haven't been disappointed. 10/10

Blake A.

Yelp
Stack Burger defies all logic in time and space. Hear me out: Stack Burger is; a downtown restaurant WITH PARKING, REASONABLY PRICED, and GREAT QUALITY. While the rest of Downtown Houston has its hand in your wallet trying to suck your bank account dry while pretending to be "the place to be" Stack Burger sits humbly on the corner of St. Joseph Parkway & Milam St. waiting for people with taste buds and financial sense to dine in, or take to go.
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
The Stack burger reminds me a lot of In-n-out. Simple burger with fresh ingredients at a great price. This place can get very very busy on the weekdays during lunch. Always wanted to try this place as the colorful graphics on the outside of the building always drew my attention. There's patio seating outside for you to eat but there is no place to eat inside. Definitely suggest you try this place if you like simple, delicious burgers.
google avatar

Hien T.

Yelp
One of the most underrated burger joints in the city. Owner and staff are super friendly, burgers and fries are always consistently on point. Don't sleep on this place and support small business! If you need a pick me up, try their Vietnamese coffee!

Luis V.

Yelp
Good juicy burgeR. Vietnamese coffee was delicious, surprising for a burger joint. Would recommend to friends
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
Came here again and thought I'd expand a bit more on my at review. This is your simple burger spot. One can call ahead to place their order or the more traditional order and wait. Setting / location - 3 stars First, there is parking right next to it that is free which is a big bonus in my opinion given the area. Take note the seating is limited both inside and outside. Expect to share a bench outside with others if planning to stay and eat. We ordered two burgers and some fries. Food - 4 stars The burgers are definitely worth a try in the sea of competition in Houston. Second visit was just as good as the first. Good lean/fat ratio! They aren't looking to be fancy and it's evident from the location, to the menu, to the food itself. Nothing over the top. Service - 4 stars No waiter/waitresses. We received our order at the window within ten minutes. Pricing - 4 stars Not over the top, cannot complain! Overall - 4 stars It gets the job done and with its minimalist business model it should be able to stick around in the sea of joints in this town.

Yelp
So I was driving down I45 and this place totally caught my eye. I love street art and graffiti and the entire building of is covered in it. I was actually driving downtown looking for street art when this caught my eye. The name of the restaurant was easy to see from the freeway as well. So I looked up the address and made a detour to the restaurant. I'm really glad I did. The Bulgogi fries were awesome and I want to go back to try a burger. The inside is very cute as well but only outside seating is available.
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
Outstanding quality and a very tasty burger, flavorful fries, and hearty breakfast tacos. Also very convenient--if I'm going to be driving by, it's easy to call 5-10 minutes out to pick up that much-needed quick (and tasty!) meal on the go! The Double Stack cheese burger will not disappoint. They also provide Thai coffee, which is a nice offering at this artful burger stand.
google avatar

Sean S.

Yelp
I love Stack Burger. I get the single stack with a sunny side up egg on it. If you haven't tried there Beef Belgolgi Fries your missing out! So good! highly recommend.
google avatar

Miguel H.

Yelp
VALUE in downtown! The owners are super friendly people and their food is delicious. Great prices for downtown, which make eating at this place more than once a week for lunch wayyy too easy. They've got a customer as long as I work nearby!
google avatar

Tommy S.

Yelp
Stack Burger is a pretty decent joint in the lower downtown area. It has been there for a while but I never got around to visit the place recently. A coworker recommended that I gave this place a try and I wasn't disappointed. First and foremost, I want to say that I am rating Stack Burger for what it is -- a quick grab-and-go place with no-frills. Having said that, Stack Burger offers burger, and variety of fusion-type sandwiches. Heck, it even has breakfast tacos. The price is very reasonable and that is always a plus. My goto sandwich here is a chicken fajita on a baguette. I always get with a little Sri Racha sauce to kick up the spice level a notch. The burger here is not bad but I'd rather get something like a banh mi or my fav, chicken fajita sandwich. With reasonable price, decent selection of sandwiches, and its close proximity to my office, I am giving Stack Burger a 4-star rating.
google avatar

Ricardo D.

Yelp
I live in the Downtown area, and watched this little place transform into Stack. I decided to walk over his afternoon, and was very happy with going over there. Not sure if the very friendly woman that greeted me and took care of me is the owner, but her friendliness really made me feel comfortable and glad that I decided to try Stack. The menu is very simple - I didn't want a burger today, so I went with the Korean Bulgogi. Amazing! I added an egg (her recommendation) which really gave it extra flavor. The bread - the French baguette - really made this sandwich. I will be back, as it was just a few minutes walk away from where I live.
google avatar

Rebeca A.

Yelp
Brought my little man here, he was attracted by the cool art on the outside. He had a cheeseburger with fries, he said "what seasoning is this?" Haha he really enjoyed it. He gave me "a bite" - it was good, he really likes the stack sauce. I ordered a Vietnamese coffee yea buddy. They have burgers, sandwiches and Bahn mi. Good service!
google avatar

Yelp
Discovered this place by accident, this afternoon...what's not to like about this hole in the wall? The eclectic artwork on the walls means it gets noticed, the outdoor dining (Limited though it is) affords one a great view of the intersection and the passing scene.... the good, the bad and the ugly, of this part of Houston, next to a collection of freeway underpasses where some of Houston's homeless can be found. It is a cosy spot to hang out for an hour while you eat and read a book or the paper, or work on writing the next Great Novel. Most importantly....for travelers...it is a short walk from not just the Downtown TC & Red Line Stop, but the Greyhound Depot, the Mega Bus Depot, and the FlixBus Pick Up/Drop Off (Convenient hours mean it is a great option for people catching the last 3 for long trips). The food is good and cheap (I ate a burger and fries that are as good as some of the more expensive ones in town) and I plan on returning to try other items on the menu... I very much recommend this place.

Mitchell W.

Yelp
Today I went to Stack burger in downtown Houston. I got a single cheeseburger. If it had about an ounce of beef on it. As I ate my salad on a bun wrapped in lots of paper, with each bite I kept expecting the beef to appear. All I could see where little crumbles of beef on top I am guessing to give it the flavor of a hamburger.
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
Very delicious and fast. I always get the double stack with cheese. The iced coffee is good too .Must try
google avatar

Kimberley K.

Yelp
This place is not currently open. The website indicates it's open but it's not. I looks like it's under construction
google avatar

Peyton B.

Yelp
Lil burger place that has no indoor seating. Picnic benches outside but there are umbrellas hovering directly over. People were nice, food came out quickly. Nothing unique about the fries but they were good. The food was not greasy, fresh taste and flavorful. It's definitely worth a try.
google avatar

Rabbits R.

Yelp
This small 1 story building on the St Joseph Parkway in downtown has an outside seating area any quick-serve interior that is family owned. They make one of the best price and delicious meals that includes a burger and french fries and drink made-to-order and fresh.

Greg S.

Yelp
The burger and fries were everything I hoped for and came in a very timely manner. I can only imagine if I would've gotten one of the more special items on the menu, I bet it would've been amazing. But I was very pleased with my double stack combo!
google avatar

Miguel R.

Yelp
The food here is good for about 10 bucks. I got the Mexican Chicken Fajita in a baguette bread. The only problem I would say is that we live in Houston and it's hot, so having only outside kinda sucks. So having some fans with mist would increase business! Thanks & Gig'em!
google avatar

Shawn A.

Yelp
Double stack & cheese. Meat crispy w/fresh lettuce n Tomatoe. One of the best burgers I've had. Just the right size. Staff is friendly and food is made to order. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Mus L.

Yelp
Hip little spot in downtown. Pretty good food and friendly faces! They're known mostly for burgers, but they have a variety of other things, including sandwiches, hotdogs and chili cheese fries. They also have a wide array of drinks and coffee, including juices and Vietnamese coffee. The cheeseburger and seasoned fries were bomb--the combo came out to $7 with a drink. Korean spicy chicken sandwich was pretty good too--$7 with an egg. There is plenty of parking, but it may depend on what time you go. No bathroom. There is an outside dining area.

Tony N.

Yelp
Stack Burger, 10 minutes from school, is meal that is satisfying from the taste to ambiance you can't miss. Street Art. Simple. Tasty. 1st meal: Single stack & shredded chicken sandwich (you can taste all the ingredients, and the shredded chicken was not marinated) Need to try w/ stack sauce next time. 2nd meal: Chargrilled pork sandwich was as expected. Enough char, fat and vegetables, making the first bite a good bite. Thank you for the value and quality

Yelp
If you're craving a fast food burger this is better! They even have breakfast but have not tried it.
