Stagger Lee Bar

Went looking for some BBQ and found Metcalf BBQ at the back of this bar. The staff were friendly and they had a decent beer selection. But they couldn't get the registers to take debit/credit cards....or get the "tap to pay" to work. But the food I got from the BBQ joint in the back was good.

Today was our first visit to Stagger Lee, and can only say that the food is very well priced and tastes delicious. The three meat plate was under $20.00 dollars and it is enough for two or one person with a large appetite; beers are $5.00 dollars.

Great brisket sandwich and some cool and interesting sides, this place is way better than La Barbecue. Serrano spinach cheese side was different and excellent all at the same time. New building with a good outdoor seating area.

The staff there was awesome. Got the brisket sandwich and Mac and cheese. The brisket was a little on the dry side but it had good flavor. Mac and cheese was nice and cheesy too

Great food and drinks. The food is a bbq place connected to the back and you order at the window. All drinks are ordered at the bar. Nicely landscapes outdoor area with big swings. Has an upstairs area as well.

The fellas behind the bar were super nice. Love the vibe of this bar. Drinks were good and reasonable.

Great food, beer was a bit expensive but if you go during happy hour not so bad.

I got stranded in Austin due to flight cancellations (don't get me started) but never been so saw this as an opportunity. I went into Stagerlee with no expectations and it did not disappoint. Fantastic bar to watch the game, they have little games at some of the outside tables and the atmosphere is amazing. I can't fully remember their names but I believe it is Julia and Angela. They made me feel right at home. They are so kind and funny, plus patient as i took my time searching for my perfect drink. I'm sad to leave everyone in Austin is so nice and those ladies made my stay so much better. Cannot recommend more!!

Relaxing and fun atmosphere to meet new people and has an awesome light up rainbow wall for all you Instagram folks! We jumped into this bar real quick because it had a good place to sit and overlook the street. We're avid people watchers so it looked like a great idea. While we were watching and looking around the bar, we noticed a couple that was playing cornhole on their own. We went up and asked them if they wanted to play, they agreed and we ended up hanging out with them at the bar and a few others for the rest of the night. They had just moved to the area but had heard from a few people that this was a great place to meet people and hang out for the night!

We recently rented out Stagger Lee for a private event. First of all, the location was amazing - on Rainey Street within walking distance of the hotel we were in. Just really fantastic location. Considering we were close to max capacity, the bartenders did a great job of keeping up. It was fairly flawless service. The BBQ spot (Metcalf BBQ) did a great job on the catering. The cornhole game was popular with our crowd. Would recommend this spot for your group! I'd recommend getting your receipt at time of service. I found it difficult to get one afterwards.

The bouncer/security at the front was super cool! I'm in town for AfroTech and I was looking to see who sold BBQ and Mac & Cheese late night. He gave me a run down of the menu and I headed to the back. It took forever for the cashier to show up. The bartenders saw me waiting but never said anything. They do kinda act as if they can't be bothered. One did answer if the cashier would be back. When I ordered I got the sandwich plate. I did order the pulled pork and their Mac and cheese. Once I got back to the Airbnb I realize the sandwich had very little meat and the Mac & cheese was velveta and not baked cheddar etc. I wouldn't waste my money on this again unless I was DESEPARATE for BBQ past hours. I'm saying that as someone from out of state. It didn't give the bigger in Texas vibes. But I did think the inside was clean and the security guy was nice. The food was basic.

I live in the Rainey St area and Stagger Lee is my favorite bar on the street. The bartenders are extremely friendly and will take the time to strike up a conversation with you whenever time permits. It's like that TV show Cheers, but in Austin. I have extremely high standards for BBQ, almost to the point of being unmeatable (see what I did there). Anywho, Metcalf BBQ, located at the back of the bar, is one of the best BBQ places in Austin. One thing to point out is that it is a separate business from Stagger Lee. It's sort of like a food truck, but located inside. But, it's so well integrated with the bar that the only way to tell is that you have to order and pay separately. There is an incredible upstairs area that doesn't get used much as people tend to congregate downstairs in the main bar. I'd encourage everyone to check out upstairs especially if you need a quieter or warmer area. It is also a great event space for crowds up to about 100. I had my birthday party there, with about 40+ guests and there was a ton of room.

At the back of the bar is the most AMAZING food!! Wyagu smash burger!! Homemade Wyagu sloppy Joe's are out of this world delicious!! Sloppy fries! You can't go wrong! The service, the beer selection, both on tap and can/bottle, you will not be disappointed!

High probability I won't be eating here not after seeing the backside of this place. Lots of opportunities for fire & bags upon bags of garbage piled high next the dumpster "Rats, roaches and other vermin.

Wow! My boyfriend and I found this place just walking along Rainey street. The brisket here is the best we've ever had! So delicious and it falls apart! Melts in your mouth. The bark is amazing on it too. Incredible flavor. The Mac and cheese is okay. We prefer al dente. So this is over cooked for us. Can skip that. We wouldn't get it again. They have hand cut fries and they are delicious! Crunchy and perfectly salted. The jalapeño sausage is delicious!!! Highly recommend the sausage and brisket. The sausage was perfectly cooked and perfectly spiced. The cheese inside was amazing. We would definitely order them again! The hot peppers and pickles and onions that come on the side are fresh and tasty. The staff was amazing and so helpful and kind. Prices are just right. We ordered local Austin pineapple cider, IPA, and some holiday cocktails. All delicious. Also got a few shots. Totally worth it! Great spot. And they sell t-shirts!!!

The most amazing brisket I've ever had!!! 1000% recommend! I went out to dinner and skipped the meal And came here for brisket! 10 out of 10 do it!!!!!

Great nachos! Beef, cheese, chips and jalapeños. Perfection. Do-rite barbecue produces some uber flavorful brisket on top of classic nacho. Wonderful service and a fun place. We watched the Baylor Tech game and sat outside in beautiful Texas fall weather. There were large swings and plenty of fun spots to hang out. We will go there again!

Great spot for games or hanging out! The food was great and the staff was super friendly. We sat out front so we could people watch, hear live music and watch the games. They also seat people on the side, inside and up stairs. The place was open and easy to navigate. Great spot for apps and drinks! We will be back.

Amazing margarita, ask for tajin and a quality tequila. The porch offered amazing people watching!

I finally tried the Do-Rite bbq at Stagger Lee. It's delicious. The brisket is moist and tender. I really enjoyed the spinach. It was cheesy and spicy. I loved it. I will be back again if I'm on Rainey street and I have a hankering for some bbq. It's worth your time and money.

The BBQ is just soooo dry. The tri -tip too. You know what they say, if you have to add bbq sauce on it, then it must not be good. The place is upscale, that "New Austin" look that disgruntled longtime locals complain about. At least I can say, I had a nice minute-maid brand lemonade here. Don't know about that dry $13 plate of tri-tip and pork ribs.

They keep the fridge at 29.6° here. Super cold. Good stuff. Even though the fridge is 29.6° I still haven't been able to reg a super cold. Appreciate the effort though

Food was fine - they were out of many of their meat options, but their sides were decent. However, this was one of the least inviting places I visited in Austin. Bartenders actually seemed bothered as they were busy talking to friends. Surprising given the amazing service that I've experienced elsewhere during my stay.

Rudest people ever ! We walked in with a beer in hand. We were asked to throw it out (we are from florida) . Minutes later, a guy asked us to leave ! We wanted to order food and drinks. Rude ass people! Never come here !!!!!

Me and my boyfriend came here on a Saturday recently and ordered a total of three beverages. After we finished our drinks he signed the bill and we left. I checked our bank account the following day which showed three separate charges from here. I called and left a message and had no response and I also emailed. I'm hoping this yelp review will illicit a response but if this doesn't happen I'll be calling my bank to resolve this problem. I highly reccomend everyone check their bill before they leave this establishment.

Came here on a Sunday to watch NFL and they had a bunch of large flatscreens with different games on. I especially recommend people to check out the space on the 2nd floor where there are some neat arcade games. They also have food but we just came here for drinks. Overall, this is a great place to chill and hang out on Rainey.

I'm not sure if this place is Metcalf BBQ or Stagger Lee. Staying at a hotel nearby I walked until I saw a place that looked good. After a few min I saw Stagger Lee & a sign that said BBQ & claimed they outsmoke the comps. Wrong. There was a guy at the door who i interrupted talking to his buddy. He asked if I was eating and pointed to the back to order and said he'd get me a drink after I sat down. The music was so loud, you had to yell to order. The food with tip was like $38. Work is paying - so who cares... only I do. It wasn't worth $8. The queso was indeed yummy. The Mac and cheese has no flavor. None. The brisket was warm at best... Def not fresh. So, $38 for 1/2 lb brisket, chips, queso, and Mac and cheese. Oh, the guy who was supposed to bring me a drink (I only wanted some water) never came. Never saw him again actually. There was another guy upfront when I left, on his phone. There's absolutely no way I'd go back.

I really love the vibe here!!! Went here to try something new since I'm out of town. The frozen drinks are really good. I can't remember what I had but it included whiskey and strawberry I'll be coming back for the night life.

Stumbled upon this joint while looking for some quick bbq. I'll just say, coming from California, the bbq is okay.. Comparable to Lucilles. Upon ordering, the kitchen was out of multiple food items (mac & cheese, ribs, and brisket..) We ended up getting the three combo plate, however had to wait 30+ minutes for the items that were missing to be delivered. Don't know where the food is coming from exactly.. but upon waiting, staff was super friendly and allowed us free chips and nacho dip refills which was nice. On another good note, the nacho dip was delish! The brisket was also very good, moist, and flavorful, however i dont recommend the ribs. The ribs came out veerrryy dry even with bbq sauce on top. The Mac and cheese also was very bland and not too exciting. The sweet potato fries were a better choice for sides. The atmosphere was fun and very hip. If you're out with some friends and are looking for a nice place to get a couple drinks, this place is cool :) If you're looking for other food items, there are multiple food trucks parked right across the street from this place.

One of the best places on Rainey. The service is always on point, atmosphere is a lot of fun, and they have games upstairs. What more could one want?

Avoid. I wish I could give no stars. What a horrendous experience. Was treated terribly by a pissed off waitress. There are far better places that deserve your service, especially during COVID.

Best Rainey St. bar / BBQ without a doubt. Super friendly staff, Mike keeps a cool old/new school music playlist while Jen, Josh and everyone at SL make you feel welcome... hang upstairs or down with all games on TV and the best vibe around. Great food and drinks.

Cold beer but cocktails leave something to be desired.... Overall I feel like there are better bars on Rainey but this isn't a bad pit stop. The patio is good but like I said, just feel like it feels like a pretty generic bar.

Came into order STREET TACOS...30 minutes later with buzzer in hand I walk to the counter to tell them, "I'm here to pick up my tacos." Note: buzzer had not gone off yet. Little to no surprise they hadn't even started my order yet. ~ 0 STARS!!!

$7 for a white claw. White claws are $20 for a 12 pack.....They are making $64 on every 12 white class And that's at retail value.....so at the very minimum they are charging 437% of retain value. Get outttttttaaaa heeeeeeyaaaa

Come here for the BEST old fashioned on Rainey Street and a bad ass bartender who knows how to treat people and how to shake and serve up AMAZING service. Thanks Devin! (Hope I spelled that right)

Awesome time. Really chill, dog friendly, great beers. The music was pretty loud for a Saturday afternoon so we were yelling a bit but overall a great time and would recommend stopping by for drinks/hanging out!

Pretty cool bar on a pretty cool block, mainly they had mnf. The service was pretty good and so was the local draft beer. They have a separate bbq restaurant in the back that you can walk up to and order and bring back to the bar to eat. The brisket was great! Had a great smoky flavor and was super super tender, literally used my plastic fork to cut it. The Mac n cheese was decent, the French fries weren't that great though - they weren't crispy.

Stagger Lee is a great place to unwind after a busy week. The staff of 70 Rainey frequents Friday afternoons. Margarita and Barbecue is revitalizing for sure. The newly opened bar and food venue is located in the heart of the Rained district. Service is great and the ambiance is relaxed and fresh. Highly recommend a visit.

I like Stagger Lee. Not the typical Rainey Street Bar. They serve regular Tall Boy beers reasonably priced and the servers are friendly, unpretentious and helpful. Cocktails are well poured and also reasonable. It is spacious and there's a good variety of indoor and outdoor seating.

Amazing!!! The drinks were great and the bbq was fantastic, it literally melted in your mouth. Very simple, not crafty - which I enjoyed. Just good ol fashion Texas bbq! Great environment, lots of 2000'a pop and etc. This bar has a great vibe!

Amazing bbq & lots of outdoor seating! Some of the best bbq brisket, chicken I've ever had. They even have fun swings! I highly recommend this place over Banger's which is slow & low quality.
