Got two pulled brisket plates, one with beans and Mac the other with cornbread and Mac. I am literally still in the parking lot and have to write a review. I worked at a BBQ spot in Georgia and since moving here I have not found a good BBQ spot untill now. Everything was on point! I walked in and walked out within like 2 minutes, staff was friendly and fr best BBQ I've had in a long time. All the sauces were great too !! Deff give them a try it will be your new go to!

Have to shout out the amazing service for my first visit! Reasonable prices and decent portions. More of a takeout spot but I did find a seat and enjoyed my pulled pork sandwich, green bean casserole, and Cheerwine. I will say the pork was very tender but you really need one of the sauces to add flavor. That being said, nice sauce options as well. Parking is a little limited. No wifi.

Simply the best BBQ I ever had in my life!!! NC BBQ genius you are above of all!!!! NY BBQ is doom. I'm travel from NY for business trips and so glad I found this Gems. Amazing people Amazing Service.Reasonable Price.The ribs so moist and so soft and smooth!!!!! The BBQ sauces is out of this world.House made BBQ sauce. They have 4-5 different types OMG I tried all of it. Everything taste so incredible! Highly recommend to everyone. I will definitely gonna make my trips there again more often. The barbecue was perfect and a good portion as well for the pricing. Has a very local feel and service was quick. Of the four sides we got 2 were just ok (white coleslaw and the banana pudding) The mac and cheese was amazing! I would probably get double portion next time. I did not get anything catered. But I have no doubt this would be a great place to cater from. The ice cream on the back of the shop is what really perfects this place tho.

Rockstore is a tiny BBQ house in Stallings by the Matthews border. It’s pretty quaint and the smoke smell can be picked up from blocks away. The interior is tight with booths and a counter and there are a few outside tables along the front and side. The cue is solid for being pumped out of such a small space. The Pulled Pork is easily the most popular plate to get. It’s smoky, juicy and full of flavor. That said, don’t sleep on the Rib plate. While they lack the smoke of the pulled pork, they are delicious and fall off the bone. There are many of the standard sides to choose from. Our favorites are the BBQ baked beans, potato salad, red or white slaw and green bean casserole. They offer myriad sauce options so pick your favorite and go with it. Service is cool. Food comes out fast and it’s reasonably priced given the state of inflation. Parking is pretty easy unless your there at peak lunch time. It gets crowded at lunch and you may have to park along the side street. Either way, Rockstore is worth a stop if you’re passing through.

I have been a customer for years and have consistently been satisfied with the food and service. However, I have noticed that a young lady, who is heavier set, often wears outfits that I find concerning. This is not my first time seeing this, I have previously observed her dressed in a similar manner. She often wears red shorts that are HIGHLY inappropriate for a work environment and today they were particularly revealing (to the point I could see the underwear she had on underneath). I believe it would be best to implement a dress code or address this matter with the young lady. It is unprofessional, unsanitary, and disrespectful to not just the customers but the young men she works with.

Really delicious food, juicy smoky chicken, great portions for the price, plenty of sides to choose from. The inside is cozy with a family style feel. Definitely a good BBQ joint!

The food was flavorless. This was the worst bbq I have ever had. I’ve been around tons of bbq spots. You can’t even smell bbq when you walk in. Didn’t like the banana pudding as well. The ribs seemed boiled and then drenched with some not so good bbq sauce. Gordon Ramsey would be mad tasting this. To the owner go travel and really tell me do you really think your food is good. Sorry to be harsh but have to tell you.

Food so nice we ate here twice. I had been looking for a good BBQ place to check out in the area south of Charlotte in preparation for my annual trip to visit family. As soon as I saw Rock Store in Stallings, I knew that was the place. I made it a point to stop by on the way home from site seeing on a Thursday. Initial impressions are of the building. Such a charming little stone cottage of a place. Actually, more than stone, this place is made of quartz. Fitting considering we had just visited a couple of gold mining places. And gold is found in/with quartz. Sorry, I went off on a tangent there. Anyhow, inside is just as charming and smells incredible. There is something special about the aroma of meat being smoked for your enjoyment. We were already hungry and this added to the hunger. We were pretty quick to order and food was ready even quicker than that. The food isn't exactly made to order. They pulled the sandwiches and warm sides out of a hotbox already portioned and prepared. It all tasted pretty well fresh so that was not even an issue. Between two visits (Thursday and Sunday), the four of us ordered 6 pulled pork sandwiches and 2 beef sandwiches, baked beans, brunswick stew, white coleslaw and red coleslaw. Every bite of it was delicious. Tender meats with subtle smoke flavor. Soft buns. A hint of spice (red slaw and stew). The selection of four sauces added to the experience. I tried each - Stallings sweet tomato based sauce, hot vinegar, Carolina Gold mustard sauce and hot sauce. I took to a combination of the vinegar sauce and mustard sauce. They sell these by the bottle and it was so very tempting to get one. But I couldn't pack that in my carry on and I was not about to pay $40 to check a bag just to bring home sauce. The food was amazing. Staff were friendly and courteous. The building was charming. An overall phenominal experience. But the price is really what sold us. $5 for a pulled pork sandwich. $9 for a pulled pork sandwic combo which includes a side and a drink. Where I come from, we call that a good deal. You just can't beat it. We are now looking forward to next year when we get to come back again.

So good!!!!! This is a must visit!! We are visiting from Georgia and searched BBQ and happened upon this cute old-timey store! The people were so nice and welcoming! And the food was delicious. The meat was so tender and melted in your mouth. The bbq sauce was a perfect mix of savory and sweet! The banana pudding was so good we had to get more to-go! Definitely will be back!!

I love good local barbecue places, and Rock Store is a fantastic one. The building is a quaint, small stone building with only a handful of tables inside. The service was great both times I visited - all employees were very friendly and they were super quick. The barbecue was great - Carolina pulled pork is one of my favorites, and they do it well here. I would certainly return anytime I am in the area.

This review is overdue. I used Uber Eats for dinner on Friday, 01-27-23. I think eastern NC has the best barbecue, but I'm always willing to try a new spot. I ordered the pork plate (cornbread; macaroni & cheese; Carolina gold), baked beans, brunswick stew, and banana pudding. I wasn't a fan of the sauce or the mac & cheese. The food was hot when delivered.

The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. The slaw isn't my favorite but the bbq is delicious. I really like the sauce choices

I love driving up to this place to order takeout, usually the brisket meal deal for the family. The prices are great, and the brisket is delicious. I highly recommend choosing green beans as one of the sides. The wait time for takeout is also very short.

Decent barbeque in this small location. Pulled pork and brisket are good. Sides are good as well. The employees are always nice and friendly.

I needed a little something for the long ride home after burning through an afternoon at the track. took some finding to get here and parking is in an odd way between the street and the road but it's old and storied and worth some effort. weathered stonework building looks as old as rumor puts it with a couple of tables outside and a couple more inside and if you don't look too close it feels like the place that forgot time: lots of wood and glass and a nice mount above the door opposite what can't possibly be a functional loft... on the main floor are fridges and drinks and condiments and utensils and a counter with two nice ladies doing the food thing one of whom is wanting to finish the money for food exchange while the other is telling me the famed cucumber salad is currently unavailable. sad face :-( kinda hard to complain about "settling" for green bean casserole but I'll try. sammich is good looking chunks of bird that spent some quality time in the smoker and got finished off with a happy splash of the red. tender and moist and super chickeny on your basic bready bun which is kinda the point here. got a choice of sauces on the table that will accent the flavors not cover the mistakes, went with the Carloina Gold because, well, you know... chicken. small taste of slaw left me wanting more, same goes for the beanage.

My wife and I decided to get some BBQ and there was only one place you go to get that, Rock Store! This place is a very small little hut with about 5-7 seats in it. Most people get the food to go or eat it in their car. We got it go and took it back home. If you blink when you drive by you might miss it so pay attention. It has a small parking lot of about 5 spaces. Park and walk in the front door. Time to order. We get the same thing every time. BBQ pork plate. You can get a sandwich but we prefer the plate. You get two sides. We get the corn bread that is absolutely amazing! We also get Mac and cheese. It's ok, could be better but good enough to eat. It also comes with a bun. I can usually get about 3 sandwiches out of the plate. If you're in the mood for dessert, get the banana pudding and get the large. It's very good. This place has never disappointed us in the many times we have gone. I fully recommend trying this place out. Price: $25-30.

Continuing to eat my way through the Great NC BBQ Map and found this spot outside of CLT. Stopped for lunch and got the plate (more meat and 2 sides). Pulled pork was very good. Have to admit the star was the green bean casserole side - way cooler than just beans! Very friendly staff. Highly recommend taking the detour.

Just great bbq juicy flavorful and the cornbread please best corn bread in the area. Never had a bad rack of ribs and I've been going here for years.

Everything here is good! I've been patronizing this barbecue restaurant for decades when visiting family in the area. Great pulled pork, ribs ... everything. Friendly staff and great value. This place is a gem!

Great local BBQ place!! Had the pork, chicken, and brisket. All excellent. Loved the mustard based sauce the most. Cornbread sweet and moist. Creamy Mac. Green beans great.

The pulled pork itself was ok; maybe it's just not what I'm used to. It was a bit on the dry side and all the choices for bbq sauce were either vinegar type or just not pleasant. Like I said, many people recommended, but maybe it's just not my preferred style of bbq pulled pork. The service was outstanding and friendly!

Pretty Good Brisket. Not very generous on the Cole slaw. Good it's Self Service so no tipping. Love the music they play!!

Got the Sandwich + Wing combo for 11.50 and it was a really good deal with one side and drink. The wings were HUGE and I got the spicy sauce and it was was super flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. I got the pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty good but I tried my moms pulled chicken and it was awesome so I'm definitely getting that next time. I also got the wedges and they were good but we also got the hush puppies, banana pudding and Mac n cheese and they were all 9/10+. Definitely coming back soon.

Very traditional NC BBQ with nothing fancy, just Q done right. The half rack is tasty w/ just the right amount of smoke & don't forget the chopped pork sandwich. Opt for the sweet tea & mac & Cheese

Corn bread and banana pudding are my personal favorites. The bbq sandwich combo with the stallings special sauce & Coleslaw on top is PHENOMENAL. The ribs are great too!!

Got the pound of brisket and sides of mac n cheese plus Cole slaw and cornbread. Super tasty, and not overly salted which is usually my main gripe with bbq. Cornbread was fluffy. The mustard BBQ sauce was so bomb and zesty!!

Since 1936 this unique location has avoided the bulldozer "raze-craze" which is consuming the area. Maybe it's because enough recognize the importance of honoring our past, or maybe it's because they have some damn good 'cue. Either way, take advantage of your heritage. Slow down, grab some smoked meat, sit outside and enjoy an era that may soon be just another ugly-ass apartment or a Walgreens. I say "Give 'em a whirl." Eat here.

Goooood BBQ! It was fast and easy to get my food! Seating inside is limited, but they have tables to sit at outside. You can get your food to go, or.. if you're lucky get a seat inside. Service was fast and friendly and you can really taste the smoke on the meat. The reason for the four stars is because I ordered the beef sandwich which was a little more $ and they gave me pork. I wasn't really upset about it because it was really good. It's a quiet little place and parking is also limited. Fair priced and delicious! You wouldn't even know it was there! I always shoot for the hole in the wall places because by my experience they always turn out to be the best. If you know me you know I'm not lying. Guys! You have to try this place! It won't disappoint.

I hadn't had Carolina BBQ in years, and was in town visiting my mother and decided to stop in at Rock Store on a hunch. I was NOT disappointed! They were fast and very friendly. I got their most popular pork plate (with cucumber & onion salad and cornbread sides). Since I didn't know which sauce I'd like (it had been so long), I was happy to see they had the choices on the table for me to try each one. It was so good, and the portion was so large, I ordered extra sides and took the leftovers home for the next day. Still great. Will recommend everyone who visits my mother to stop in there.

The people are so nice. The inside is cool too, much bigger than I expected from the outside. I ordered the chopped pork plate, sample ribs, mac n cheese, and green bean casserole. The chopped pork was tender and the ribs were perfect. All the sauces are on the table which I really like. Loved all of them. The Carolina was nice and tangy with the vinegar base. The mac was okay and the green bean casserole was surprisingly delicious. I'll definitely be back.

I'm am a BBQ fanatic and VERY picky about my BBQ. I grew up in Greensboro, NC and my favorite there is Stamey's. Since moving to Charlotte my favorite and "go to" has been Lancaster's BBQ. Today - we passed Rock Store and my daughter is like "what a cute building - we should try there food". So we did. Upon entering we were welcomed in a fashion very rarely seen these days. They were SO friendly and helpful and made sure everything was good. I am now going to say at age 60 - I found the BEST BBQ ever! What makes it so good is their own sauce - they have 4 to choose from. I'm a vinegar based fan and it was the best ever! If you don't GPS the place you might not see it. It originally was a 1936 gas station that is all rock. A must try for those that know their BBQ!

For someone that's used to eastern NC bbq this is a pretty good option in the area. Can't go wrong with a classic bbq sandwich

This used to be our go to barbecue restaurant. The food is still good. The price is still appropriate. However, the taste is slipped. We will go back and try it and we do recommend it.

Our first time here while visiting North Carolina. We shared the brisket platter. We chose the Mac N Cheese, baked beans and potato salad for our sides. Their staff is very friendly and the food was very good. I would definitely go back again.

Service is very quick and the staff is friendly. I would rate the bbq as average but I will admit that I am a bit of a bbq snob. I felt the pork plate was a little dry and the vinegar sauce really didn't add much flavor. Overall, I will come back again if I am in the area and give the brisket or chicken a try. Last note:They need to add shush puppies to the menu!

Last time was here to pickup my order instead of getting 2 racks of ribs they gave me multiple pieces of the rack. Was not impressed with the quality of the ribs I received since some were not worth eating. Been going to Rock Store BBQ for other 10 years and supported them through Covid and this was the biggest disappointment. Will give them another chance in the future but not worth the drive if this is what they serve to loyal customers.

I wish I would have taken a photo! I was so hungry and it smelled so good, I couldn't think about anything but. You are given a generous portion of BBQ. The sauces offered are delicious! I like getting the white coleslaw and making a BBQ sandwich and adding the slaw. The service is great and friendly! Don't let this tiny bbq spot pass you by. It's definitely worth a stop!

Very bland paid $15 for a BBQ plate that had no flavor sauces are nasty Mac and cheese has no flavor meat has no flavor baked beans are Ehhh overall 3/10 brisket don't taste like brisket either sorry.... but the place looks nice and nice staff so 2 stars

Finally stopped by this popular little joint after driving by it for years and found it easily lives up to it's five star rating. Went simple with a pulled pork sandwich for $4.99 which was tender, tasty and perfectly smoked. You could easily tell the two guys that worked there had a passion for what they did. I was going to take it to go until I realized that, surprisingly, this tiny little building had five or six comfortable tables inside. The atmosphere is as wonderful on the inside as it is on the outside. Sauces in four flavors are great and slaw is available in two styles, vinegar or mayonnaise based. Prices are reasonable. Nothing not to like about this place. Definitely a Gotta Try in my book. I will be back!

I've passed by here a few times and stopped in and just had the best barbecue sandwich. I maybe have ever had. Also, their house barbecue sauce delicious. I'm going to have to come several times now to try all the different things. I imagine the ribs must be incredible & I will have to try.

Don't drive past this place and dismiss it because of the size or location. The bbq is pretty good. The sides are just meh (ok) but the bbq is what matter right. I was only in there for about twenty minutes for a quick bite and quite a few people came in and out the place with good things to say. Good deals too. I got the bbq sandwich which came with a side, little cup of slaw (red or white) and a drink! Baked beans tasted like they came straight from can but everything else was pretty good. Food was served fast. Tea is good. Try them out for a quick lunch.

A Carolina staple! Best BBQ in the Carolinas. Make sure to take all the sauce home. This is the original location, well worth the drive.

Our 1st time!! Small quaint place with an amazing bbq smell that meets you in the parking lot. The owner was there and was very helpful. He gave me a sample of the pork. Very flavorful and moist. I ended up ordering the pork plate with Mac 'n cheese and green bean casserole. I got the brisket plate with Mac 'n cheese & white coleslaw for my husband. I had my daughter with me and the owner was nice enough to help Me carry the order to my car. Got it home and dove right in! Meat on its own was flavorful and tender. They gave us sauces but honestly they weren't needed. My daughter loved the Mac 'n cheese. Green beans were yummy. Tons of food! Enough leftover for lunch the next day. Will definitely be returning.

As a TX bbq connoisseur and amateur chef, I just got to say ....Nope. We recently thought we' d try again and got some pork and chopped chicken to go. Chicken was literally not edible. Pork was just ok, barely. Just not good IMO.

Best BBQ served up by the nicest people. The sides are not to missed. The only problem is deciding what to order. The atmosphere is family picnic-perfect. The ribs, brisket, and pulled pork are all amazing! I feel lucky to live so close to this local gem. :)

Why five? Well if the food is great and exceeds your expectation and the service is friendly and personable, that's a five star to me regardless of the price point. I have been looking for my BBQ place when visiting my son at Wingate University, well I found it!

Barbecue was delicious and they were quick to get you your food. If you are dining in there are a few tables, most people do take out the way it looked.

Food was excellent including the banana pudding which is homemade and to die for! The service was also stellar and everyone was helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. We will be back!
