The Best Restaurants on East 28th Avenue in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"With an extensive imported beer list, Stammtisch already has a well-deserved drinking audience, but its food menu, sporting hearty Wiener schnitzel and juicy pork-and-veal currywurst, also make it an outstanding German restaurant. Enjoy a beer, a soccer game, and pretzel at a spot where the super-loyal regulars can get their names on reserved mugs and barstools." - Thom Hilton

14 Portland Restaurants With Brilliant Beer Lists | Eater Portland

"This German Beer Hall serves up traditional German fare like currywurst, sauerbraten, hammy schweinshaxen, wienerschnitzel, jägerschnitzel, apple strudel and beyond, yet unlike in Germany you’ll find some vegetarian friendly options as well. You will be sharing space with everyone at communal tables inside, and there some casual benches and tables outside. Expect great selection of German beers across Stammtisch’s 18 taps, alongside more bottles of German beer, and some options for wines and cocktails." - Pechluck Laskey

Google
Beautiful restaurant and lovely staff. Our server was super helpful with my gluten-challenged friend and modified her order without changing the essence of her plate. We had to get the classic pork shoulder. Sometimes you just need a hearty German meal. The pork shoulder and schnitzel and beer were all good and rightfully in the spotlight but the hidden detail for me the authenticity of their sauerkraut and red cabbage sauerkraut. It was densely good and with character and unlike anything I’ve eaten from a jar. Healing.

Google
Had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant. Very impressive German beer selections, and I highly recommend trying out their Schnitzel. One of the best I’ve had in PNW! Also special shout out to John who did an amazing job serving us with beer and happiness. He’s professional and introduced us to Underberg. Very nice place and will come back again! Thank you John!

Google
Had an absolutely wonderful dinner here. We ordered the pretzel, white wine steamed clams, wursts, and beer. Service was friendly and efficient. The pretzel came with mustard, cheese, and schmaltz dips. I’d never had a pretzel come with schmaltz (chicken fat) before, and it was a delightful surprise how delicious it was. The clams were cooked with a buttery white wine, garlic, and lightly sliced broth, which was again delightful. The wursts came on a bed of warm sauerkraut. 10/10 experience, great ambiance, will definitely come back again in the future.

Google
Authentically German with a incredible selection of beers. Decor is on point and food has great range from traditional to up scale done all really well. Strudel is slightly Americanized and a touch too sweet.

Google
This place was so good we went back for a second night to try more. Service was outstanding. Food was unbelievably well done. Probably the best stop on a trip of 2 weeks in Oregon.

Google
Prost! We stopped by this place on a whim, and it did not disappoint! The beers were delicious and huge, the food was top-quality with all of the many different flavors that worked so well together, and the atmosphere was extremely cozy. The curry ketchup is out of this world, by the way! Definitely will be returning soon ❤️😍💥

Been wanting to go for a while, finally made it and the hubby was thrilled. He grew up eating German food and this place did not disappoint. Delicious food and great, friendly service.

Google
Excellent food, great beer selection. I would definitely recommend this place for good German food.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! The ambiance is beautiful and service is friendly and prompt. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and the restaurant is very cozy in the winter. The food is consistently excellent, and the happy hour menu is also killer! I haven't had anything I didn't like on the menu. Must try's are the Bretzel, Weisswurst, Rabbit, and Apple Strudel!

Yelp
Great ambiance. If I lived here I'd visit often. Food was flavorful. Just went to Germany earlier this year and it was nice to find German food and flavors stateside. Server was friendly but seemed overwhelmed.

Yelp
I met some dear friends for dinner here due to the close proximity to where we'd all be that night, and I'm very happy that we chose Stammtisch. I'd been longing for great schweinzhaxe since Gustav's doesn't really exist anymore (save for the one location in Vancouver), and a trip back to Munich is a bit impractical. Stammtisch's example was quite good! Seems to be made the authentic way (roasting of a long period of time as opposed to a quick deep fry to crisp up a braised pork knuckle before service). It was tender, crispy, and delicious. On our visit, they were out of Kartoffelpuffer, so we opted for currywurst (lovely, but the wurst link was on the cold side) and a "Bretzel", which was the best I've had since I was in Munich. I'm not a beer drinker, but their variety of German imports was impressive. We were seated outside, which I generally hate, but it was after dark, and the nice overhead lighting and cozy location of the outdoor seats made it pretty easy to forget that we were outside. Service was friendly and prompt, which was great (again, being outside, it seems easy to be forgotten about). I'd definitely return, and am looking forward to our next visit.

Yelp
This place is very comfortable to hang out. I had the three wurst plate served on a bed of kraut and a cucumber salad. All was delicious.

Yelp
It's difficult to name my favorite restaurant, but Stammtisch comes quickly to mind. And for beer it's #1. They added a new yummy item to the Happy Hour menu: fries topped with a delicious ragu-like tangy pork. Turns out my favorite beer, the dark Hef with banana cloves, is a seasonal. I had to settle for the lighter Ayinger Brau Weisse which is more suitable for hot weather. As I've stated in previous reviews, the glassware they use makes a positive difference. Love this place.

Yelp
Comfort food at its finest! The Maultaschen are packed with flavor and just the right amount of heartiness. The clams were a highlight as well, wish it came with more bread!

Yelp
I hate to downgrade a review for a beloved neighborhood restaurant, but last night's experience just left something to be desired. The first few times we ate here, the food was so excellent. I always like to get the fish special, which they rotate seasonally, and it's been wonderful. The last time I had it, the meal was probably one of the top 10 I've had in Portland. We decided to go last night for my birthday. Our server was very friendly and efficient. For an appetizer, we split the Maultaschen, which is a pasta dish. This was very, very good, sort of like a German version of ravioli in a delectable cream sauce. But things went haywire with our entrees. This time, the fish was salmon and it just wasn't very good. It was very, very bland and slightly sour, not exciting or special at all. My husband got the pork shoulder, which was very fatty. They top it with some sort of fried pork skin and when you pull it up, it's just all fat. It was really gross and unappetizing. I saw someone else complaining about this in another review, maybe take it off the menu? I decided to get the apple strudel for dessert and that was delicious. But when the appetizer and desserts are the stars of the meal, something is off. We will definitely come back, but this visit was somewhat disappointing.

Yelp
Hope you like German beer - cause this joint has all of them. OK, a slight exaggeration, but they certainly do stock a lot of the styles. Anyway, I stopped in for a quick drink, pre-Thanksgiving and even though the place was packed, the bartender was totally attentive- even giving samplers of a couple of brews to my indecisive wife. Service is spot on: efficient yet friendly and not rushed. These guys are pros. My refreshing Bitburger Pils was just the ticket on this evening and the plate of fries came out nice and thin and crispy - just the way we like 'em - with a lovely curry ketchup to dip them into. Warm and cozy room inside, dim lighting and warm wood, with a holiday feel this week to boot. A solid pub to duck into on a rainy night.

Yelp
Very enjoyable dining experience. Tamar was our friendly, efficient and very personable server. We enjoyed their delicious pretzel with schmaltz, (that's a no for me), mustard and obatzda. We ordered a big plate of French fries, a couple of sausages and some kraut. Everything was piping hot and well prepared.

Yelp
We felt like having German food and found Stammtisch after looking at Yelp reviews. It was a hit. It was a busy night for them. We were lucky enough to get the last order of Schweinshaxen. It was our first time trying that dish and we really enjoyed it. It's a big, roasted pig knuckle that is crispy on the outside and very tender on the inside. One serving was big enough to feed two of us. One of the people in our group ordered the Wienerschnitzel. That turned out to be a pretty good sized serving and was delicious. If you like soft, German pretzels, they have them here, too. We love trying new restaurants. Sometimes you find one that is really a hidden gem. This is one of them. We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Host was amazing and greeted me right away. I have anxiety so I have trouble approaching for service, so I need to be approached first. I actually left a different restaurant, Prost!, because I was not greeted. Wish i got there hosts name, but he was awesome, was patient with me when I couldn't decide, and offered a suggestion for beer that was really good! Chill vibes, loved they had outdoor seating too

Yelp
This place is so unique! I love how huge the menu is and how friendly everyone is! What a great place to hang out and grab a quick drink. The menu is not in ounces, so it was a great exposure to a different measuring system!

Yelp
Feels like walking down a cute Portland street and popping into Germany. Excellent service. We were sat earlier than promised and lucked out with a booth. Loved the selection of dark beers. Pretzel was good but potato pancake was a hard pass and lacked flavor. Would order the spatzel and wienerschnitzel all day long. We also ordered the chicken which they warn takes a while. Meat was tender but I was full by the time it came as I shared my husband's meal and enjoyed it more. Main downside is it was ridiculously loud. Felt like I'd gone to a rock concert and could barely carry a conversation.

Yelp
We stopped in for some refreshments on a cold icy day in Portland? This bar is located on the corner in a very trendy area of Portland! We came here as we were on our hunt for good German beer! And it's hard to find places that specializes in German beer on the west coast! Even harder to find places that offer German food and beer! Within Portland there are several places to go to for food and beer! This review is principally for refreshments! At this restaurant you will find a solid list of beers, wines and some cocktails! If you are a German beer fan, then this is your place! Liters are nicely priced, especially in comparison to Los Angeles! And for non beer drinkers, it's nice to see they have wine and cocktails! To complement our drinks: we ordered a pretzel! The pretzel seemed homemade! The pretzel came with mustard, chicken fat and a cheese spread! Very typical items to complement a pretzel! The pretzel was six dollars! The pretzel was kind of small but fresh! As we read desserts are good: we got a strudel too! This was not on our agenda! The cream that came with the strudel was super fresh and homemade! The strudel was above average in quality! As for service! We were provided everything requested! The server was attentive but not overly friendly! We were a bit offended that the bill was thrown down on the table rather than handed over or placed right next to us! Anyways if you are seeking German beer, this is a good place to drop in!

Yelp
We typically only make it out here once a year, but got lucky today as it was nearby. We had a group of 4 and came during lunch. Great vibes, service, and lunch menu! We missed the Spätzle, but will have to come back again for dinner! Danke!
google avatar

Yelp
Good food and atmosphere. It was fairly busy but the service was prompt. Very good beer.

Yelp
Came to the Kern district for the day. Of course, it was a good day. Enjoy some nearby good Mexican food and finish our night at this place. It was relaxing and friendly, and the bartender was pleasant. Good beer and conversation. We will be back.

Yelp
I don't know why we waited so long to go here. It was always on my long list, but somehow never made it to the top. Until one October day, while we were out running errands and we became wicked hungry. My husband Google mapped nearby restaurants and mentioned Stammtisch. Yes, let's go!! I expected a wait, seeing as though it was a Saturday at noon, but we were seated right away, as if it was our regular table. Stammtisch tranlates to 'regular table,' and that's the way they treat all of their guests, like regulars at a corner pub. The cozy atmosphere feels a bit more like an old British pub, but the vast selection of German beers on tap proves otherwise. On that first visit, I ordered the Venusmuschein, a steaming bowl of clams in a complex tomato, basil, garlic and white wine broth that was ridiculously flavorful. Paired with the Paulaner seasonal ale, it was perfection! My husband ordered a Hofbrau original and the Reuben sandwich. To him, the Reuben is a benchmark by which to judge any retsuarant/pub, and after just one bite, this Reuben quickly jumped to the top of his list. It's the perfect balance of juicy pastrami and sauerkraut (both made in-house) with German gruyere, and Russian dressing on griddled rye. Doesn't get much better than this one. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that on subsequent visits, we have both ordered exactly the same things -- they're just that good! Go and find your regular table. You won't regret it!

John H.

Yelp
I still love this place! I recently had the Rinderbraten (paprika & caraway spiced beef roast in red wine gravy, with spätzle and red cabbage) It was even better than expected! The meat is so tender and the whole dish works well together. I don't usually drink fruity beer - but that lemon radler was such a refreshing drink on a hot day!
google avatar

Cary C.

Yelp
Standout German fare in a vibrant and fun Portland neighborhood. The Wienerschnitzel is one of my favorite dishes. We recently had the salmon and it was outstanding. Services always friendly. And the best part is the outstanding selection of German beer on draft. One of the best German restaurants in the United States as far as I'm concerned.
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
Cozy little neighborhood bar with some outdoor seating as well. Can get some authentic German steins here. Haven't had the food but may one day

Yelp
We decided to celebrate my husband's birthday and wanted to go to a German restaurant. We chose Stammtich. So glad we did! First of all, the ambience was warm and pleasant, looked like places I have seen in Germany. Our server was pleasant, present and knew the menu well. Sort of like being hosted by a friend. The food was delicious and each dish distinct, no sauce or vegetable the same. (We are the kind of family that shares bites, so we all got to try everything!) We shared two starters - the cucumber salad and the warm pretzel. Yummmm! The rabbit dish was tender and succulent. The Wienerschnitzel was tasty, but a bit dry. A touch of sauce on the dish would have cured that easily. The pasta with cheese, Maultaschen, was terrific, we all agreed. The seared pork loin, Jagerschnitzel, was lovely too. Because it was a birthday, we tried the Apple crisp. Served with a large dollop of cream. It was warm, crispy and delicious! We are looking forward to our next visit to Stammitsch!
google avatar

Chi D.

Yelp
Okay this is a delayed review, but came here for lunch one day and enjoyed it. The Bretzel was hot and lightly buttery, nice big salt flakes, and loved the schmaltz that it came with. The currywurst came with a big pile of perfectly crispy fries, which was a nice surprise, since I didn't see that written anywhere on the menu. We also enjoyed the bratwurst with sauerkraut and house mustard. Note: Service was just okay. We asked for and never received a refill of water. Also the outdoor seating is designed such that you get lots of dust from passing traffic.
google avatar

Janelle A.

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday night around 9pm and no wait for a table! Delicious German beer and I love how each beer has its very own special glass! We tried the jagerschnitzel, seared pork loin with mushroom gravy, spatzle, and pickled red cabbage 4/5 only because I love things deep fried more lol this is a restaurant we visit every time we're in Portland because our goal is to try the whole menu but portions are huge so we shall a meal
google avatar

Kiley Corrina V.

Yelp
The food was absolutely amazing! Everything tasted wonderful! We all shared and we're in awe of how good everything is. The drinks were insanely tasty and all the beers were yummy (I'm not a beer person) and didn't have any aftertaste The dessert was not planned but I'm glad we stayed and had it! Everything was good, the season ice cream was wonderful! Service was good at first and then fell off a bit towards the end as they slowed down. We had drinks brought to us while we waited which was great, especially since it was a 50 minute wait. Once we were seating it was impossible to find anyone unless they were actively brining us our food or drinks. And drinks started taking 20-30 minutes to come out. This is definitely not an intimate spot, it's VERY loud and you can hardly hear the person next to you. It fits the vibe and we enjoyed it, but it's good to know that's what you're getting into before you're there otherwise I could see it catching you off guard. Overall I would recommend the spot, but with a reservation or get there early.

David A.

Yelp
A little disappointed. Stammtisch literally refers to a regular table and, yet, you can't make a reservation. :\ Also, the waiter harassed us about splitting the ticket when we were 10 people. He kept saying their policy is 2 tickets per table and we were 2 tables, but he only wanted to split it in two. :\ He finally relented and split it 4 ways, which still wasn't enough. Food was generally good. The ambience was okay but nothing special. They have outside seating, and it was a warm day, but we sat inside so we could all talk to one another. Dark wood interior and it was noisy with all the people inside and music playing, maybe too loud.
google avatar

Stacy B.

Yelp
Authentic German food. Went here for a birthday dinner. Pub atmosphere but not too noisy.

Tina T.

Yelp
Amazing German food and drinks! We got the slow roasted pork and rabbit. The service was great - everyone is so nice and attentive.
google avatar

Elisha J.

Yelp
I wish I had pictures for all of you, but once weinerschnitzel was delivered I started in immediately. The pork was flavorful, fried to perfection, and so tender, fork tender. No gravy though which is tragic, and not usual for German food. The warm potato salad was more fried potatoes which were super yummy, but I missed the acid of the German potato salad. Service was great, beer was delicious, and the strudel was stuffed with apples and walnuts. Portion sizes were not terribly large, the sides were rather small, but still great food. The pub was lovely inside and the neighborhood was super cute!
google avatar

Troy H.

Yelp
Posting again four years later...Tamar our waitress was awesome, friendly and very helpful. Neal the bartender/waiter needs to watch his mouth and not try to tell a customer what they should eat or not eat after they messed up our order. My rabbit was great, moist, tender and full of flavor. Unfortunately every time we come they screw up my wife's meal. Out of the 4 times we have come, they have jacked up her food and we eat separately. Thankfully today we were able to share a desert together after watching one another eat. This is our last time here. Thank you very much Tamar for your understanding of my wife's frustration and providing us with exceptional service!
google avatar

Rudito B.

Yelp
Stammtisch roughly translates from German to English as "regulars' table for friendly meetings" and that is so appropriate! This was our first time here and absolutely not our last. For some reason it's difficult to find spätzle on the menu at most "German" restaurants, but not here! The bier menu was awesome and the authentic grub was wunderbar. Although a bit on the pricey side ($29 for my Schweinshaxen plate) it was all very well worth it. It would not be fair to rate the offerings without mentioning the staff, who were all very friendly and attentive. Top notch, all around.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
Twas a beautiful fall day and our group of 3 decided to head over to Stammtisch for some Oktoberfest festivities. Parked a block away and the place was already hopping. We checked in and had the option to wait for an outdoor seat, or we could be seated immediately at the bar. The bar it is. Started with a Paulaner Weissbier. Arrived in a plastic cup. Hmmm, flashback to college? Nevertheless, the beer was the perfect choice. Next up were some snacks! Bretzel-warm Bavarian pretzel w/Schmaltz & Obatzda. Very good. Currywurst-fried pork & veal sausage w/frites & house curry ketchup. Excellent. Doner Kebab. I would say this needs some work. Doesn't measure up to German street Doner Kebabs. Glad I stuck with my 1 beer, because as we moseyed on to our next spot, I wasn't as full as the other members of my group. I look forward to going back and trying their dinner specialties, versus afternoon snacks.
google avatar

Joseph M.

Yelp
I had the jägerschnitzel. I was going to take a picture of it, but when I looked down the food was already gone. For anyone who has been to Germany, the portions are Gastropub size, rather than Gästehaus size, plenty of food. It was not breaded but pan fried or baked, pan fried spätzle, and tart warm red cabbage. It was tasty, and the mushroom sauce was good. Ended the evening with apple strudel. It was a lightly sweet confection and paired nicely with their coffee. The beers were numerous and German , Keiner aus Würzberg oder Bamberg, aber na ja, but there is a flavor on tap for everyone. Traditional German seating pairs strangers to tables, at least in the bar section. The service was quick and professional. with the friendly environment and good food, you have a great neighborhood Gastropub. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Bobby L.

Yelp
Easy to miss. If I wasn't walking, I wouldn't have seen it. Impressive lunch and drink menu. BUT, there is an even more impressive dinner menu that starts at 3. I arrived at 10 AM. The only negative is that the bathroom needs maintenance. Mopping, soap and paper towels. Not good. Back to the menu. Only 1 or 2 vegetarian options. The beet salad was muy excelente. Roasted beets, hazelnuts (no one puts these in a salad, so good), goat cheese, vinaigrette, and frisee (three guesses as to what this is, see my photo). So good w croutons of course. If you don't know what a schnitzel is.... join the club. Even after leaving there I still have no idea. The menu has a bunch of them. Let me know what is is once you solve the mystery. At least 30 beers, numerous cocktails, wines, liquor, liqeurs, etc. A full bar, in other words. The place is incognito, you won't see it, it blends into the woodwork. Hopefully I'll make it back to try some of the items from the full dinner menu.
google avatar

Zachary M.

Yelp
My party of 5 waited for close to 2.5 hours for our food with no explanation from the staff. We were told the chicken dish would be a 40 minute wait, but they should have told us it would be a 2 hour wait -- that way we wouldn't have ordered it. The wienerschnitzel and jagerschnitzel were both lukewarm and over salted. The pretzel appetizer was very small. The table we sat at was extremely cold as it is was right below an air conditioning vent. I won't be back. 2 stars because it wasn't inedible.
google avatar

Flory W.

Yelp
This is the neighborhood, where I grew up during my High School years. We were quickly seated and selected our drinks from the extensive list of German beers. We had pints of Weltenburger Barock Dunkel and Weltenburger Hell. Both beers were flavor-filled and went down easy. For food, we ordered Jagerschnitzle, Sauerbraten and a Sausage plate. All of the food, quite frankly, was delicious and we cleaned our plates. I also had a takeout order of Sauerbraten and Apple strudel. (Apples could have been more cooked). Service throughout our stay was friendly and attentive. By the time we left, the restaurant had become full and people were waiting outside the door. Take my word that it's worth the wait.

Abigail S.

Yelp
Excellent German dishes, helpful servers, friendly space. Accommodates any size groups.
google avatar

Tawni B.

Yelp
Solid atmosphere. Great tasting food. Service was a little slow but the server was busy, so it's understandable. Would have enjoyed being explained what was on our charcuterie board as we were left to blindly eat and taste the options for the night. Will be back for sure! Lots of tasty food and beer.
google avatar

Catherine D.

Yelp
Best German food in town! It's a cozy spot and staff is real easy going. But feel free to skip dessert.
google avatar

Beth E.

Yelp
Everything we ordered here was so good! I forgot to even take pictures. I was just enjoying the food so much. We got a pork shoulder and it was so juicy melt in your mouth delicious. Also, the apple streusel was SO good I recommend not skipping that! The pretzels are a must and the sausages with the different mustard were so delectable. There is lots of street parking nearby. The servers were very attentive. This was a really great dinner! I got to go here for a work event and I hope they take us back another time!
google avatar

Anna R.

Yelp
The food was amazing got bratwurst and Currywurst it was absolutely amazing and very authentic to the German culture. The service was quick and efficient. I like that the server did her job, but wasn't hovering and was also attentive the hubs/bars atmosphere was to the root of German culture.
google avatar

Jose V.

Yelp
Amazing beer, great service and food. Definitely coming back to go through the beer options.

Tina P.

Yelp
Staff was friendly and we were seated quickly. Friday night was somewhat busy, but the food came out quickly. The potato cakes were good; however a little salty for my taste. Jagerschnitzel was decent and the rinderbraten had a nice flavor to the beef. Spaetzle was cooked a bit too much that they were a tad dry. They kept playing a song that had a weird repetitive bass to it and it would have been a much better atmosphere if they had the music lower. Beer was delicious!
google avatar

Ronald A.

Yelp
This is a wonderful neighborhood place for German food and beer. Our favorite in town. Start with the beer. It is all German. No IPA allowed; that is English and not allowed. I suspect the are some 18 different beers. Since most is drawn from the tap, they can accommodate three different sizes for each beer. They usually have the glass that matches the beer. We normally come in for lunch. It gets busy at night. We had a wonderful corn based soup last weekend. It was excellent. Of course we also ordered fries with curry catsup. The fries are crisp and not oily. They have a wide range of German dishes. My favorite is the weinerschnitzel. For an extra treat ordered it with gravy. Off the diet; yes, but worth it. Give the place a try. We have come in many times over the years. It has always been great.
google avatar

Bryan S.

Yelp
When we want hot, salty protein and beer, we often come here. Nice selection of German beers instead of yet another 10 taps of IPAs The atmosphere is comfortable. And the food is... well, German. So, it's fine. Sometimes you just want that kinda thing. The service can be VERY hit or miss. We tried to have dessert there once, and, well, I won't go into it, but it was comically slow and then bad. When we ordered it, they sort of looked at us like... really? Stick with the German food and beer. Expect cranky Portland bar type service, and you'll do all right.

Yelp
Favorite German food restaurant in PDX, though an admittedly short list since The Rheinlander in NE Sandy closed ages ago. Not much to say about the food (it is German after all), but their Schnitzel is pretty good as it should be. Wide selection of German beers but I must say that they also can make a decent old school gin martini. Ambience is PDX-pleasant. Wasn't expecting to see US basketball in the telly though, should have been EU footy but I'll overlook that discretion. Parking can be a bit of a pain in the neighborhood but not impossible. Just hope for none of the usual PDX.

Now this is a bar and not a restaurant if you didn't know that... but the food is filling and it has that tub feel to it which is delicious and if you don't understand and need to try for those who do you definitely get me! The sandwiches are huge and I pleasing and also chummy pleasing. I heard about this place 10 years ago and had just recently tried it finally and glad it's still around because it's talked about all the way from Gresham down to Beaverton. The staff is friendly, the music is jammin and the beer is great!

Yelp
This place has been on my to-try list for a while so I was really glad to have visited last Friday. The table ordered the Bretzel (smaller than I thought it would be. Not sure I loved the schmaltz or obatzda), Currywurst (smaller than I thought it would be but good flavor; wish there was more sauce), and Brotzeit Teller (I enjoyed some parts of this a lot and others less, which is pretty standard for a charcuterie board anywhere. I think this is a good option for larger groups who are open to trying new things!). I ordered Professor Fritz Briem 1809 Berliner Weisse with a shot of raspberry syrup to drink and it was delicious!!! Highly recommend. Being a German gal, I had to get the sauerbraten to see if it was as good as my family's. I was not disappointed! Really good flavor and not too heavy. The dish comes with red cabbage and spatzle which were a perfect combination to the braised meat. I tried the schnitzel from others at the table and it was cooked perfectly. I can't comprehend how to fry such a huge piece of meat but the flavors and crustiness of the breading were spot on. I'd like to return, and when I do I would like to try the maultaschen and the warm potato salad!
