This place is amazing! Everyone working there was SO nice and helpful! I came in on a whim with $30 and asked them to pick whatever. I knew these cheese people wouldn’t lead me astray and they definitely didn’t!! Thank you cheese peeps! (P.S., please come to Sunnyside!!)

I always wanted to stop by but couldn’t do it because of tight work’s schedule, today I was like now or never. Im actually glad that I walked in, very friendly people and they got a huge variety of different types of cheese. They recommended to me the Four Alarm mild Cheddar (spicy) and the Tete De Moine. I simply LOVE it both and love how nice the whole crew was. Will come back for sure…

An excellent selection of international cheeses along with fresh artisan breads, cheese accoutrements and other interesting finds. Very nice owners offer a warm welcome and expert service.

Google
Delicious cheese, knowledgeable and friendly staff, amazing local gem. They also sell caviar, smoked salmon, jams, crackers, pastas, oils, and lots of fine chocolate. Great place to get gifts, and a great place to get treats for yourself

Google
Great products all around. Fantastic options for everything. They have a freezer with the best frozen raviolis of all time. Don't miss the sandwiches. I once had a focaccia they had on hand but I haven't seen it since. That focaccia was top tier

I stopped by this store on Thursday, December 21st to purchase one item I’d originally placed online for a pick-up order a few weeks ago. I noticed it’s a small store, so I actually walked in. The store is very small and quaint. I wasn’t greeted at all, in fact I walked in and said hi. Look at my picture, you can see my face clearly. I think the male owner and the female owner were actually surprised to see me, walk into their shop. The vibe inside was really off to me. They were helping a white woman, who purchased some goods and a white man walked in after me, they said hello to him and seemed like they preferred to deal with him. The female owner actually helped me but the male owner, with the mousy brown curls, looked like he didn’t want to bother with me. The entire experience is sad because had the customer service treatment been better, I would’ve given them a much better review since they had a few quality items. When the man gave me the bag with the items I purchased, I couldn’t say thank you before leaving as I did feel rushed. It felt passive aggressive to me, especially since they are a small business. I live in Brooklyn, so I would’ve made the trek out here to Queens since I actually liked the products that I purchased. Needless to say, I wouldn’t be back. I just didn’t have a good experience there. The shop is very small, I mean very small. It doesn’t look the cleanest either but because they are pretty niche, it seems to work for them. For me, nope. Won’t come back. Sorry.

Yelp
Can't get enough of Stand Alone Cheese. Always the best selections for any occasion. I love how their team is always excited to suggest new things to try when I ask. I'm not a fan of blue cheese and now I am in love with the "mild" blue they suggested I tried during the holidays lol. Also, pick up their pistachio apricot crackers to go with your meats and cheese... they're the best!!!!

Yelp
Oh sweet baby Jesus is this place awesome. To be honest, I wasn't 100% sure what to make of a cheese shop in Jackson Heights but after visiting, I know that it is such a great addition to the neighborhood. I remember reading the how the owner worked at Artisanal Fromagerie where he met his wife, the restaurant was kinda like the holy grail for cheese. The food: Secret de Compostelle with Summer White Truffle- This was my favorite cheese. I really loved the truffle note but the texture of the cheese was perfect, it was soft and creamy. Three Meat Sandwich- Coppa, Salami, Soppressata with Sharp Provolone and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I enjoyed this sandwich. I thought the flavors worked well but eating it straight I felt the bread was a bit hard and chewy. I put the other half of the sandwich and but it in the toaster over and the bread was much better, it was nice a crispy. Prosciutto, Fresh Mozzarella Sandwich with Balsamic and Extra Virgin Olive Oil sandwich. I think this was another good sandwich and it helped greatly with the toasting from the toaster oven. I think I like both sandwiches about the same. Aged Manchego- This was a solid Manchego, with a nice deep earthy flavor. This cheese was good but the flavor comes off a bit mild compared with other cheeses. Parmacotto Italian Ham with Rosemary- This is a nice ham, the flavor of rosemary is very pronounced and goes really nicely with the ham. On my next visit I am going to try Truffle Tremor, Prosciutto di Parma and their Prairie Breeze. I first had the Praire Breeze from DiWine in Astoria and really enjoyed it.

Yelp
Great selection of cheese to custom order by weight. They also have non-alcoholic cocktails, mixers and garnishes (lizards cherries) since you legally cannot sell these items in wine shops. Great service even in their busy moments. Highly recommend stopping by here for all your cheese needs in Jackson Heights!

Polly H.

Yelp
It smells like stinky old cheese, but it honors the name. The sandwiches are great. Just reheat in the oven, because they are given to you out of the fridge and are cold. I ordered the ham & butter as well as the prosciutto, salami, ham sandwich. Both were super delicious. I also bought a jar of Giardiniera (veggies soaked in vinegar) and also eggplant parmesan tomato sauce. They have other types of gift type items as well as cured European meats. There are tons of things think like for a picnic. The people working here are friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
My normal supplier of parmesan rinds for cooking (Freshdirect) sold out of them literally a minute before I checked out, and I panicked. I called Stand Alone Cheese and the guy who answered was super nice about checking to see if parmesan rinds were available. He then set them aside for me ( 1/2 lb) to pick up later that afternoon, and only charged me $5 (which was basically the same as Freshdirect except I would've had to get a pound there for $10, which I don't need so this was even better). This literally saved my dinner party, so I am incredibly grateful. I also saw that they had Willoughby for under $20/lb and a great selection of other cheeses that I really like for quite good prices. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Great shop with a very wide variety of cheese and other specialty foods. The owner, Steffan, is lovely and really knows his stuff. My husband comes here at least once a week and I'm never disappointed with what he brings home.

Shaima C.

Yelp
I did not know about this place until I started yelping cheese shops. During this time, I'm really trying to go to the small local businesses around my area, and I'm really happy that I found this place. I stopped by, and the store is small but cute. We were not allowed in, all orders were taken via online for pick up or you just order at the door (which is what I did). Order online, it'll make life easier for everyone! With that being said, the owner was super cool, very patient, and really helped me out with recommending cheeses. They have so many cheeses! Local and international, great prices, and a pretty large selection. Stop by if you're in the neighborhood!

Peter G.

Yelp
We visit this shop at least weekly. They have a terrific selection, and if you are adventurous they can recommend some really interesting things. They carry a good selection of frozen pasta from Raffetto's -we have ravioli at least once a week. So convenient and I find the service to be excellent!

Melanie M.

Yelp
When you walk into Stand Alone, you will be transported into a French fromagerie. This quaint shop has a wide variety of cheeses and meats sold starting at the .25 lb.. The knowledgeable staff, are happy to share their expertise upon request to help you make your selections. This place is a one-stop shop for all your picnic needs, olives, crackers, jams, spreads, bread, boutique-style sodas, nuts, and chocolate. Pop across the street for some wine and you are ready to start the picnic! If you are not a picnic person, pop in for ingredients for an easy yet delicious dinner meal- ravioli, some nice olive oil, fresh grated pecorino Romano, or rent a raclette machine!

Lianne C.

Yelp
I love my neighborhood cheese shop, so many selections and the seller is so patient, took his time to describes the type of cheese he had in the shop and let me taste them before purchasing.

Susie C.

Yelp
What a knowledgeable staff and wonderful selection of cheeses, meats, and condiments. My favorites were ossau iraty cheese and hot sopressata out of the 4 cheeses and meats I tried. I also liked the chocolate covered figs. Can't wait to go back and try more. The online ordering makes it super convenient.

Mickey M.

Yelp
Stand Alone Cheese was amazing before Covid, and they remain amazing during Covid. They evolved with entrance-way service, and an easy to use online ordering system. They're a go-to for meat & cheese night, and I'm pumped they've adapted to Covid. They're great with recommendations, and they make awesome sandwiches. They pair really well with Table Wine across the street!

Isaac L.

Yelp
"Mean Cheese" is our family nickname for this local cheese shop. The selection is good and welcome in the neighborhood, but you won't find anything friendly or cordial about the staff. It's a shame because the product is great but everytime we leave we feel an icy chill from the surly service. "Stand Alone"? Very apt under the circumstances. This should be a neighborhood gem.

Christian R.

Yelp
Brand new cheese store that just opened on 37th Ave in the Jackson Heights. This little spot is not to be missed and one of the highlights of what is becoming and very hot area. The owners are incredibly nice and helpful. And they carry a varied selection of imports and local selections as well. You may also find here: spritzers, pickled veggies, crackers, sweets and other select canned items.

Leonard F.

Yelp
The cheeses are delicious (the aged gruyere is our favorite) and the friendly customer service makes it a pleasure to shop here. Also note the owner gets excellent breads from both a local baker and Pain D'Avignon in Long Island City. Without a doubt the best bread in the neighborhood. There are lots of interesting treats on the shelves and fancy frozen Mac and cheese too.

Arabella P.

Yelp
Love this local store. Dealing with Covid like a charm. Call ahead and pick it up from the table outside. Great selection of not just cheese but charcuterie and small goods from all over. I can get my French ham, cornichons, baguette and Fever Tree tonic all in one spot. Why leave Jackson Heights?!!

Adriana X.

Yelp
A delight to find a little more sophistication in Jackson Heights ! Great charcuterie, cheese, and good fresh bread.

Dana R.

Yelp
Very niche place, but very welcome. We honestly didn't know we had a need for such a cheese store until it opened up. I have been in JH for almost 40 years and I always try to think of what kind of new stores would open up in the abandoned ones and Stand Alone Cheese was a real nice surprise. They have so many different cheeses that when you walk in, the pungent odors punch you right in the face in the best cheesiest way possible. You can sample cheese and order yourself cheese by the pound. I have eaten the sandwiches here also which are tasty and usually sell out by the end of the day.

Katy V.

Yelp
Really nice owners who seem to care about the neighborhood and cheese! I was really happy with the cheeses I purchased as well as the price point. They have such a variety of inventory I look forward to trying more of their stock!

John W.

Yelp
Top notch cheese shop. Small shop with huge flavor, knowledge and variety. Had the 3 meat sandwich- no oil, vinegar, condiments, lettuce or tomato- just three types of delicious cured meats and sharp provolone on artisan bread- Heaven! Do not think twice, go to this establishment and enjoy! You will not be disappointed.

Melissa S.

Yelp
Super excited to have this place in the neighborhood. As many others have said, the folks that you encounter in the shop (the owners?) are warm, welcoming and are very knowledgable about all their offerings. I was delighted to be able to pick up cheeses from such an eclectic location as Indiana, where my and my husband's family has roots. They also had wonderful Spanish cheeses to relive a recent trip. A big plus is being able to ask for suggestions and taste before you buy. They carry a thoughtfully selected assortment of grocery items. I was especially excited to see they carry Acme smoked fish products, the same purveyor used by Russ and Daughters, etc. They have a mark up of course, but for the convenience it's worth it, and not too out of line with what I've seen grocery stores charge. Anyway, this place is great. Right across the street is another neighborhood gem, Table Wine. So why not treat yourself (and your guests) to something delicious.

Katie E.

Yelp
This store has the most amazing cheese and special treats. The owners are generous and will take their time with whatever you need. AND when I called from Seattle with a big ask for a special delivery to a sick family member in the neighborhood, they didn't even hesitate to say yes and offer to walk over the cheese and other treats after the store closed. They're amazing. Support this incredible business and enjoy their DELICIOUS cheese, meat, jams, breads/crackers, and more.

Yaniv K.

Yelp
The best place to find cheese in the neighborhood. The two owners, who met across the street at a wine store, are fine purveyors of delicious and diverse collection of cheeses. If you have any questions about the cheeses, or don't know enough about one of them, they will help you without a doubt.

Jeremy R.

Yelp
They gentleman that owns this place makes it worth coming here. Come on in and get to know him. I will say that be prepared to spend. I can't imagine what the rent must be for that place. But just so you know This place is pricey. It's 2.5x as much here as Trader Joe's for most of their cheese. It's similar quality. I wish that they would have weekly specials. That would drive more business in.

Sandy N.

Yelp
When Stand Alone Cheese opened just a few months ago I was delighted as we have many good things in Jackson Heights, but good cheese was not one of them - I used to travel to Forest Hills for cheese. Now, right on our doorstep in Jackson Heights, we have Stand Alone Cheese. The boss, Stefan, is knowledgeable and so helpful with ideas in the area of, "if you liked this, then why not try this one ..." etc. This is what makes a local shop that we want to support - a shop not run by a corporation, but run by real people. A friend of mine from Philly who visits every few weeks makes Stand Alone Cheese a "must visit" every time he is in NYC. A warm welcome to Stand Alone Cheese!

Mel C.

Yelp
This is a gem in Jackson Heights. The products are top notch quality and the service is always great. I love the sweet sopressata that's sold here; it goes well in sandwiches and to be eaten alone. I also love the ricotta; it's fresh and delicious!

Kriton D.

Yelp
Amazing selection of delicious cheeses. Very nice owners who are happy to take the time to help you make the right selection. Their sandwiches are also great - we grab them for lunch often.

Scott H.

Yelp
Friendly, knowledgeable, accessible. Got some excellent recommendations, and their prices are great. Really glad they are in the neighborhood.

Nick L.

Yelp
Really good place. Owners know their cheese and are intelligent and helpful. Will let you taste the cheese, too!

Lauren W.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE. They're the best cheese shop in a one mile radius of where I live and I'm so happy that they opened up shop. A great addition to the neighborhood. Wonderful selection, knowledgeable and friendly owners and employees. I have never been disappointed with a purchase from here.

Mark U.

Yelp
Great selection and variety of cheese from around the world, in addition to other dairy products, basic and specialty food items, and charcuterie. Super friendly customer service by knowledgeable owners. It all adds up to a great addition to the neighborhood. Please welcome them and encourage them to stick around!

Caroline Y.

Yelp
The owners were attentive and offered several recommendations/ samples to help us choose. We ended up getting some brie and gouda today to pair with red wine and both were tasty.

pamela s.

Yelp
Great store, wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Besides excellent cheese and bread they have a lot of other fantastic specialty foods.

Clyde M.

Yelp
Stand Alone Cheese is an excellent addition to the neighborhood. The shop is small, but the products are thoughtfully curated. The owners, who are super friendly, have put together a wonderful selection of cheeses and charcuterie that beats the pants off of the offerings at the local grocery stores. They also make simple but tasty sandwiches with high quality ingredients; a godsend in a neighborhood that is basically a sandwich desert.

Grace D.

Yelp
Excellent addition to the neighborhood! Great selection of cheeses and other specialty items. They also have sandwiches. The owners are knowledgeable and very helpful!

Jerry G.

Yelp
All one could ask for in a neighborhood cheese shop: well presented selection of international cheeses at fair prices; good assortment of crackers, condiments and jams; fresh artisan breads. And nice owners providing good service & advice.
