Stanford Court Hotel

"How did it strike you on arrival? The Stanford Court Hotel started a huge renovation in 2017, updating to embrace both its historic location on Nob Hill, as well as San Francisco's role as a tech capital. The hotel still has the classic fountain in its port-cochere, but the lobby has a far more modern feel, with low, round leather benches, modular gray couches, white tiled floors, herringbone wood floors, and pops of color in upholstery, artwork and throw pillows. And it's going all in on tech. The hotel tapped the design firm EDG to help with its refresh. Nice. What’s the crowd like? The updated Stanford Court is specifically targeting the tech-savvy traveler. The redesign includes 2,100 square feet of startup-style, communal working space. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The $16-plus million "reboot," which was completed in the first quarter of 2018, extends to all guest rooms; all 400 are now done in stark whites, subtle grays, and bold blues accented by gold highlights. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Guests can choose from four different kinds of pillows, including down and hypoallergenic. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?Blix electric and New Albion bikes, which guests are welcome to borrow (just be careful going down Nob Hill). Each room also comes with complimentary water bottles that you can refill at FloWater stations. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The updated bathrooms have details like rain showers, sustainable toilets, heated towel racks, and repurposed textiles. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? Not complimentary, sadly. But the "Urban Bundle," available for a fee, is fast and includes unlimited device connections. Room service: Worth it?The new Stanford Court is skipping room service in favor of a new model, a grab-n-go style spot where you can self-pay for goods like espresso, juice, snacks, and sandwiches. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.At 1,500 square feet, the revamped gym is enormous, and with floor-to-ceiling windows and views of the Bay. Guests can hop on Precor equipment, or access to Kinima.fit’s virtual training program. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? The update is definitely a departure from the typical Nob Hill vibe, but not an unwelcome one. Bottom line: worth it, and why?If you go to Nob Hill looking for the historic details of an old-school hotel, Stanford Court isn't your best choice. It's a much better fit for the tech-savvy." - Elise Craig

Lovely hotel, a lot bigger than I expected. The staff is very kind and helpful. Sadly most of the elevators stopped working daily. Also noticed the permit expired in 2018(7 years ago) Full breakfast is ok, maybe not worth the $36. Room is spacious, good bathroom and great cleaning services!

The location was great and felt safe. It was also conveniently located near China Town and other restaurants and only a 2km walk to the waterfront. Yes, there was a steep hill to the property, but the calories burned meant we could eat and drink what we liked ;-). Conveniently, however, the cable car stops right outside for those who prefer not to walk. Staff were super friendly and helpful - they allowed us to check in early which was very much appreciated and guided us to the nearest cafe to grab some lunch. The room was reasonably sized and clean. There was a chiller in the room, and we had access to an ice machine. We really appreciated the bar and restaurant in the hotel which meant we could have an easy and relaxing night after travelling and the free drink was a bonus.||A minor grumble is that the safe in the room was small (in terms of depth), so while it was great to store passports and laptops, it was too small to store our camera. The other main issue was the lifts - this seems to be a common theme within all the reviews, and they really are an issue. All guest lifts were not working for the majority of our stay and while we could use the service lift, only one of those was operational. I understand they are looking to refresh the lifts later this year, though this should likely be prioritised sooner given the constant issues with them. That said, this didn't dampen our stay too much and we would likely stay here again should we return to San Francisco.

I had the most wonderful experience staying at Stanford Court. The hotel is perfectly located right next to the San Francisco cable car line — you can hop on just a minute away! The views from the hotel are simply stunning, especially from the panoramic gym. It’s filled with modern equipment and has everything you need for a full workout, all while enjoying the city skyline.||The on-site restaurant is fantastic — elegant, stylish, and the food is delicious. Breakfasts were large, flavorful portions that kept me full and happy for hours. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is both vibrant and cozy, and what truly stood out was the incredibly kind and welcoming staff. Everyone I met was helpful and warm. ||This hotel combines comfort, location, and style in the best possible way. I can’t wait to come back!

We recently spent a week at Stanford Court. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was excellent, with great hilltop views. The famous cable cars run past the hotel and you are steps away from sweeping views of the city. The hotel is very clean and our room was spacious. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the room was mostly quiet save for a little traffic noise which is to be expected. The gym was very well equipped and I welcomed the stations where you could refill your bottles and get free tea or coffee in the mornings in the lobby. My only issue was the elevators, of which only one was working during our stay. This was disappointing as we incurred long waits to get up and down from the eighth floor. However, there was clear signage about this and we saw engineers working on the two other elevators all week. Overall, I would really recommend this for anyone looking for a central hotel stay in San Francisco.

Google
It's a nice bar; everything else is not so nice. From the squeaky often non-operational elevators to the tiny, dated rooms featuring nothing-special everywhere. The tiny single-person sink in the room is not enough for a family or otherwise a large individual. The showers have no overhead option and the curtains can reek.

Google
It’s a good hotel in a top location but there are issues. It’s a shame as I really wanted to love this place and I probably would’ve done if it was a 3 star and priced accordingly without charging resort fees. The elevator issue is ridiculous for the type of establishment. Everything should be working if you are labelled as a higher end hotel charging trivial fees for the basics surely? From talking to locals - this used to be THE place to stay in the city but for whatever reason they’ve let standards slip. Even the valet company were not on their game. Took over half an hour to retrieve the car and even then the nice guy at the valet desk had to go get it himself. Sad world, it’s all about the money than the service. Everyone in America wants 20+% tips or adds fees but don’t want to actually earn it nor show any gratitude for it. This culture has got to change in the US - this is why you are losing business from Europeans. We’re not all millionaires just because we dare to have a holiday and we work hard for it so stop fleecing people. In contrast we stayed at a B&B in Yosemite soon after this, and the service and facilities were out of this world with everything taken care of because they actually cared.

Google
This should be a 5-star review, BUT during our 5 night stay (June 19th - 24th) the elevators were inoperable. At first, only 1 out of the 3 Guest elevators was working, then stopped. We were directed to use the Service elevators, of which only 1 of the two were working. The wait for an elevator was in excess of 10 minutes, so we opted to use the stairs from the 5th floor. When we asked if they were going to be repaired by the weekend, they brushed it off with a "maybe". As far as we could tell, there were no elevator repair people on site. This is unacceptable.||What we liked:|Great location. The Queen Room with City View from Floor 5 was lovely. Great view. Immaculate room. One of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept in (no aches or back pain!). Fluffy towels, friendly housecleaning staff, ample storage and seating area, and the two requests we made via the app (additional towels one day and housekeeping another day since we slept in) were immediately taken care of. Restaurant food was great (we enjoyed chips and salsa, and a quesidilla). ||Please make repairing the elevators a priority! You deserve 5 stars.

Google
We live in Sacramento and we love to take long weekends in San Francisco, especially when it gets hot in the valley. Stanford Court is our go to the location on top of nob Hill on California Street and is the perfect launching spot for the wharf or anywhere else. The views are spectacular. Cable car close right outside the door The service and the rooms are always immaculate Parking is very important in San Francisco as we drive our own car. The hotel offers valet parking and we don't even have to think about it. It's parked in a very safe spot. It's hard to stay anywhere else in the city once you stayed here Oh, and did I mention it's right across the street from the famous Tonga room You have to go there at least once

Yelp
Quick Summary - Simple and clean interior - Plush beds - Basic needs are met, with a nice view - Hotel mood: business than vacation - Breakfast is separate from the booking - Noise level - low - Plenty of electric outlets There are different hotels spread across San Francisco, and this is one located at the highest top of the city. I will also say, comparing with the other hotels lined up along this lofty and excruciatingly steep hill, this is one of the affordable options. It located on a top slant of the hill, and inside I am welcomed with a quaint fountain and parking space. I booked via a third party online website, and the site has been reliable; when I mentioned my last name, the staff located in the records. Once inside, it is an unconventional style of a lobby. A restaurant and bar first greets your straight ahead and some nice lounging couches set in the center and on the right hand side. Where is the check-in counter, I initially thought as I entered and scanned the first floor. My image of counter was burned strongly in my mind; their check-in counter is an island like table, and is found right upon entering. The staff was prompt and explained to me about the amenities the hotel offers, and lucky for me I received a room upgrade. My initial was a 2-bed (Queen) room, but it was upgraded to a wider space. Thank you kindly to the staff. I also received an impression that they knew we were locals because they did not go into detail on well-known tourist locations in the city -- which was nice on my part because my goal was to get a rest within the city. Getting the card key to the room, I went to the elevators and to floor 5. The room I got had pretty good views all around -- pretty incredible for a fifth floor, thanks to the hill. Three windows with double blinds to shade off a good amount of light when going to sleep. There was a writing desk in one side of the room and a table and two comfortable couches on the other end. Near the bed frame and the writing desk, there were plenty of electric outlets to charge devices. The bathroom is around the corner of the beds, and the vanity is separated from the toilet and the bathtub and shower set by a sliding door. The shower spray is gentle. Checkout was easy; combined the card keys into the envelope that was given to us at the check-in and drop it in the box by the elevators.

Yelp
Terrible customer service booking experience, don't return calls or emails - be careful I made a reservation on Dec 18 to start Jan 7 through Jan 13. Two days later (Dec 20) I called the hotel to cancel the reservation because my travel dates changed. In the booking email I received the policy stated: "Cancellations & modifications made up to 24 hours prior to the day of arrival are fully refundable." The reservations team said I had made a prepaid non-refundable booking but that they would transfer me to the front desk to see if they would make an exception. The person at the front desk explained that my booking was over a specific event week and that's why the policy is different but that he would refund my credit card and I'd then get an email confirming the refund. 5 days later (Dec 25) I had not yet received the refund on my credit card so I emailed them asking when I'd get it. I still haven't received a reply to that email (it's Jan 2 today, 8 DAYS AFTER I SENT THE EMAIL!!). 3 days later (Dec 28) I called to chase the refund as I hadn't heard back and it was still not showing on my card statement. By this point I had cancelled all other parts of the trip (flight, car etc). The reservations team said that the reservation had not been refunded and needed to transfer me to the front desk. The call cut out when they transferred me so I called back. This time the transfer worked but the person had to put me on hold and the call cut out again! I called back a third time and this time the person told me that the reservation was still active and not refunded and they didn't know what had happened. They said that the hotel director needed to look at this and the director had popped out but would call me back shortly. I confirmed they would definitely call me back by the end of the day. It's now 5 days later (Jan 2) and I have not received that call from the director, no emails, voice messages or texts from anyone. And still no reply to my email. And still not refund that I was told I would be receiving! The unfortunate thing is that I travel twice a week to SF for business usually staying at the Ritz a block away but wanted to see if I could find a different regular place to stay but given the terrible communication and pain it's been to get them to process the refund I am going to stay away.

Yelp
My girlfriends & I had a perfectly passable experience here for a girl's night weekend. We booked a room with 2 queen beds from their Black Friday deal. Stanford Court Hotel is very close to both Tonga Room & Masonic Theater, we were planning to hit both. GOOD: - Very close to Masonic Theater & Tonga Room. Walking distance. - Beautiful lobby, clean & pleasant rooms - Offers valet parking. It costs $74, but has in-out privilege if you stay longer. In this area if you're coming with a car, it's 1000% worth it. Dealing with street parking is a no-go - Excellent service in the hotel bar/restaurant. Our server's name was Haouri, he was charming & efficient. He flattered all of us ladies. A delight! - Food was yummy in the hotel bar/restaurant - Heated towel warmer in the bathroom! NOT AS GOOD: - No bottled water in the room (bottled water was listed as an amenity when we booked the room) - STUB TOE ALERT! There was a metal doorstop built into the floor right in front of the cabinet holding TV/Fridge. Because of the carpet pattern it's kind of invisible - SUPER easy to stub your toe on it after the room door is shut. Two of us did it once, one of us did it TWICE. We were all sober as judge. The person who did it twice peeled up her toenail a little bit. - No hotel mini-hygienics. No shampoo, no conditioner, no lotion, no toothpaste. - Not enough water cups. There was one cup in our two-bed room - The WIFI is hard to figure out. There's no in-room literature to guide you. We figured it out eventually, we think you can't do it via typical 'connect to WIFI' device settings. The move is to 'try' to visit a specific website. You'll get a pop-up, then you'll tap the pop-up to follow instructions on how to connect your device to the hotel WIFI.

Yelp
Such a magnificent hotel, with pretty much everything one might need for a comfortable stay (except no vending machines or snacks available after hours). The staff was friendly and helpful, and the room was clean, and spacious, and had lots of amenities (mini fridge, iron and ironing board, AC/heater temperature control, hair dryer, comfy bed, extra seating, good sized TV, and ample outlets). There's also a gym on site, in case you want a place to work out, as well as a bar, more seating, and small library area off the lobby. Had a great stay, and it was perfect for an event I attended nearby.

Yelp
As a native San Franciscan this is my perfect place for a staycation. From the valet to the check in the service is outstanding. The rooms are updated, spacious and well appointed. The Nob Hill location next to the Mark Hopkins and across from the Fairmont Hotel, the Cable Car is steps away. A lovely walk thru Huntington Park leads you to Grace Cathedral. The lobby bar has great cocktails and the breakfast is a great way to start your day. Looking forward to forward to my next staycation.

Yelp
OUTSTANDING WONDERFUL VIBES, STAFF (particularly kudos to AIREL at front desk) LOVED THE LIBRARY, THE COLLECTION OF OLD LPS , COFFEE OR TEA DOWNSTAIRS TIL 1PM, AIRLINE CREWS COMING AND GOING.. BREATHTAKING VIEWS FROM SOME ROOMS, AMAZING! LOVED THE LOCATION WITH THE CABLECARS OUT FRONT (get day pass at munimobile) grab lunch or dinner at the historic Tadish Bar and Grill down the hill Walk to the Cable Car Museum (closed one day a week) Walk to the Grace Cathedral and see the magnificent stained glass windows. Walk the outdoor labrynith there, or the beautiful neighborhood of Nob Hill. So safe So immaculately clean! Go grab a drink at Top of the Mark up the street (Mark Hopkins Hotel) Take one of the hotel's e bikes or regular bikes on a spin, or maybe, like me, spend the last hour in San Francisco in a cozy arm chair enjoying the books at Stanford Court's library in the lobby. Did I mention the purified water station? Honestly, for my next visit, I would never consider staying anywhere else. Thank You Thank You Thank You ,

Yelp
Hotel is nice.. hospitality fell short big time. We were in a rush to get to a nearby show over at the Temple. Last time we were at the hotel the whole restaurant was closed so we ordered Uber eats delivery just in case. To our surprise the hotel bar was open and we went over to grab a drink. When the food arrived we discovered there were no forks. We thought this shouldn't be a problem we're at the hotel we're staying at. They should be able to find one for us. With the inhospitable attitude we received from Tony at the bar, I wish with every fiber of my being that the Uber eats had provided us our utensils instead. I understand the principle of not bringing food into another restaurant or bar. But this wasn't a standalone eatery. This is a hotel. And to be publicly chastised in a hotel I'm staying at, in front of other guests, mere feet away from other Uber eats orders awaiting their recipients in the lobby made me feel anything other than taken care of. There are two other hotels within a stones throw of this one. I've stayed at all of them. I'd take the comfort of their hospitality any day over this hotel. We were tired, stressed and hungry. Little gestures of kindness go a long way. I wish Tony could've understood our circumstances but I'm afraid that was not the case. We collected all our garbage from the meal to ensure we minimized our burden and left to our show. Hey... at least we got our forks, but not without leaving with a bitter taste in our mouths.

Yelp
Stayed here for a week - 4 nights total and had a blast. We were greeted by Daniel out front. We parked at an empty spot, unloaded all our stuff then released the car to be handled by valet since they park it elsewhere. I don't know where exactly. I'm assuming somewhere underground. Our week here was perfect. Let me tell you why. Pros: They allow dogs This was the primary reason why my friend booked our lodging here. They had a whole setup for him when we got to our room. They provide a refillable water machine which we didn't discover until the following day so we ended up buying water at the store a block away. LOCATION. They're at the top of the hill so take in consideration how you're getting to where you're going. The walk to all the places we visited was so much fun. The trek back however was not it. That uphill battle killed my legs. I loved how secluded our area felt. The noise level was never too much. We slept with the windows open and it never got too loud that we were woken up at an ungodly hour. The blackout curtains helped with the lighting. They have free coffee for guests in the same area where they serve breakfast. There was also a 1 serving coffee machine in the room. The staff here were by far the best group of people I've come across. We always traded good mornings with the housekeepers on our way to get coffee or refill water. They even interacted with Kaia (the dog we traveled with) and were so nice to him. Housekeeping were so quick to fulfill requests. They even provided me an extra desk so I could have a proper setup for work since I brought another screen. Con: This is more of a suggestion than an actual con. It would be super helpful if the staff working downstairs had on a name tag so you can differentiate when you need something. The one time I needed something from the restaurant, I looked like an idiot standing at the bar waiting when the guy standing at the corner happened to be staff. It was hard to tell since he looked like a guest waiting for a drink. Daniel happened to be the same person who helped us when we checked out. He and another person helped us load our luggage. Thank you for an amazing stay.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Driving up to the building was lack luster, but once you turn into the driveway it's super nice and luxurious looking. The staff were really friendly. The room was clean, could use some updating but wasn't a deal breaker. Our room was very spacious, and the bathroom was a good size for multiple people getting ready. Location was pretty good as well. The restaurant on sight was heavenly. The food was so good and served piping hot. Their wine and cocktail selections were superb. We definitely will be staying here again

Yelp
Found online and booked. Super expensive for two nights only, over 600 dollars, plus valet. For all that money you'd think that the rooms would be so much more luxurious. My view out of my window was thw building to our right, the hosts were not that welcoming, they seemed robotic. The hotel was nothing really to gawk over. The elevator is always soooo delayed, one has to just take the stairs. The hallway carpets are dirty and when you walk in the room, there isn't anything special about it, the mattress was comfy but the sheet felt like paper. I had to throw on the floor, the carpet was filthy, dead flies and dust on the ground. Whomever is cleaning around here has truly given up. I get it, so many rooms and probably not enough people and pay. Would not stay again. There are so many taxes added to the room and as a Californian native, you'd think you'd get a break.

Yelp
I hate to give away our secret of one of the best places to stay in SF! But this place deserves some recognition! Not only is it a safe location (across the street from the Fairmont hotel), but it's the caring and attentive of staff that keeps us coming back! Kelsey was able to help us book the room with the exact view we wanted on this trip. Then due to transit issues my sister was very late and arrived a bit upset. Avril at the front desk was able to completely turn it around into a positive experience for her. She said, "he erased my stress and frustration". Each employee we came into contact with went above and beyond with kindness and service. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Lovely historic hotel in the heart of Nob Hill! The interior design is very appealing to the eye, after there remodeling last year. Their beds are so comfy I slept like I was in cloud 9. Best part was walking up to their yummy breakfast buffet. Did I mention they are pet friendly? What a bonus!

Yelp
Stayed at Stanford Court for the first time this past weekend. (3.5 ) Dislikes: - the fridge does not work at all. it did state that it was not cold enough for food.. but it was not even cold enough for drinks. it was basically room temperature. it was my fault to not look into this but i prefer to have a fridge when i travel for leftovers that i later eat. - there is absolutely no water pressure. wasn't sure if i even felt clean after the shower - AC is loud, but bearable if you're really tired - sound of the train - the sheets and towels were rough... i mean.. rough rough lol Likes: - everyone was quite nice and friendly - if there is no early check-in, they will store your luggage for you (but luckily it was available and we were able to check-in a bit earlier, which was extremely appreciated) - location is central to lots of places (we walked a lot) - free coffee available in lobby - our room had a beautiful view and was next to the ice room - clean Not sure if this would be my first pick when I come back to SF but would be considered.

Yelp
Excellent staff. Great location. Clean and upscale hotel. A large group of us stayed here for a wedding block in March 2023. Wasn't really sure what to expect but was so pleasantly surprised. The location is excellent. Easy walking access to Chinatown, financial district and shops/restaurants. Just be aware that SF is full of hills so make sure you lace up your best walking shoes. The trolley stop is right outside the hotel which if you are lucky to score a room with a view you can hear throughout your stay. I would suggest if you're looking for a quieter room to request and inside room facing the courtyard. I thought the view was well worth the trolley ding dings and enjoyed opening the window and listening to the hustle and bustle of the city. The staff here was excellent. From check in to cleaning ladies, all very friendly and accommodating. After booking my room I called to request a room facing the bay and a floor higher than 6th. They were able to accommodate both! Room was very clean, bathroom was spacious and had a towel warmer too!

Yelp
5 stars all around! We had an unfortunate experience unrelated to our stay (car broken into/luggage belongings stolen while parked in the city) The food and beverage coordinator, Christian, overheard us talking and went out of his way to take care of us. Tony, our bartender, was amazing. From the drinks, recommendations on where to go/eat, and just conversation. Daniel and the others at the front took always took care of us and our vehicle whenever we came and went. We saw the same interaction in the way they interacted and treated every guest. Absolutely a top notch staff and hotel! I won't stay anywhere else the next time we visit. Thank you all for making the best of our bad situation, it truly saved our trip and helped us to enjoy it. We can't wait to return!

Yelp
You know I work hard for my stuff and for someone to feel entitled to take my laptop from my hotel room pisses me off. We arrived 06/01 around 9:30 ish at night and checked into room 429. Woke up Friday to get to our reservation at Brenda's by 8:30 am for breakfast which we were late, we hung out in fisherman Wharf all day Friday had a great day, returned to our room around 9:30 pm showered headed out to get a late dinner returned went to bed. Thought nothing of it right. Well come Saturday morning around 6:40 am. I found a early flight to leave. We get up start packing and I notice my laptop is gone. I Immediately call downstairs to inform them. I let about 10 mins go by and No one calls or show up for 15 mins. I call back demand a manager and security come to the room and do not want a call. The manager Linen and a security guard comes up and ask what's the issue. I explain what I've discovered and he states " You're just now noticing your laptops missing?" "Ummmm yes. I am. We weren't here all day and began to pack so that's why I noticed it. Why does that matter?" I then explain how I noticed it and he proceeds to tell me "well we don't assume our staff took it." Welp. Then who took it. Cause you can see it ain't here. And we haven't been in this room the whole time we've been here more than 24 hours. Im sensing he is going to be of no help so I call the police and of course they are no help either. The officer or operator on the phone tells me that she has no ETA as to when an officer would be out, I explained to her that I have to catch a flight at 10 am and she says then I have to come down to the station to file the report. Wow. So the victim is the one inconvenienced, got. That's my tax dollars at work for me So we file the report and once I get the report number I call the manager Linen back and let him know I have the report number thinking he would want it and he says "Ok, yes" like what do we need it for. I said "I thought maybe you would want the report number for your records in case you find out who did it." " oh ok I guess I can take it down". Like seriously. The lack of concern was ridiculous. So he tells me that's I'll get a call from a manager and they will follow up. And get this he tells me "the only thing I can see possibly happening she may have accidentally wrapped the computer in the blanket not realizing it, it is heavier though". Seriously. A 17" laptop that's in a computer sleeve thats grey on a white comforter wrapped in a blanket!? You right. To smuggle it out. Absolutely So. Now I get a call from the Guest Manager Ray Gaspard and this man repeatedly tells me that's all his years in situations like this it's never the staff. I told him repeatedly well I'm not them and that he shouldn't treat this like just another case. Each situation is different. He says he will call me once they complete their "investigation". And that he will send me an email with the incident report information. Which I never got. Till this day which is now 06/08 I called. He tells me after reviewing the evidence which consisted of asking the housekeeper if she took my laptop and she stated no,There was nothing left. Wow your investigation which consisted of asking the one that may have stole the laptop if she took it and she stated no. SHOCKER!!! What an investigation. So as I got home to Moreno Valley CA literally an 1 he and 30 min flight, I ping my computer and it's at some high rise address. I called and informed them and provided them the address and you think they cared? Nope they can give 2 F"@&$. I told him maybe you can compare addresses with your housekeeper and see if her address is close to the area. He laughed and said "wouldn't that be great." We will have our general manager contact you and our head of security which is Michael F. Which has yet to contact me. At this point it's seeming to be a organized crime. They are all incahoots with each other abs covering up the negative behavior of their staff. At Stanford Court Hotel, you play, while we steal, and blame you. they are the place to work. Great place for kleptomaniacs to work. You have an organization to back you up. Your word means more than the paying guest that pays the bills. SMH. This place is a joke. The staff don't look like staff. The place is outdated. That's another reason why we never took photos of the inside of room. All we have is this photo of my sexy dude walking the halls. Lol. So if you can avoid this place please do. It's no 4 star hotel AT ALL. Oh an I have all the conversations recorded. Their head of security Michael no help either. He gets "uncomfortable" when asked to clarify his statements. By saying he doesn't feel comfortable letting me know if they will review their non existing cameras in the halls. Only common areas. So be careful.

Yelp
LOCATION! We had king room with the view and it was just breathtaking. You are able to open windows to get some air in and it was great. With the outrageous prices of other hotels in SF, I consider this one to be somewhat affordable. It's definitely dated and it seems like the renovations were not completed all the way. It had some updates, but felt like the management was just trying to stay on budget, so a lot of details were overlooked, like mismatching frames on the walls, poor picture choices that don't match design of the room at all, bathroom felt not completed, missing outlets on one side of the bed etc. Employees were helpful, but there is 0 identification of who actually works there. Everyone just wearing business casual, as most of the guests in the hotel, so you basically don't know if you're talking to the employee or a guest. No name tags either. Overall, we had a great stay and most likely will be back.

Yelp
Great place to stay. The staff is fantastic. They are extremely helpful. Had an oversized car and they made sure I was taken care of when others wouldn't let me park.

Yelp
Staying at the Stanford Court is such a treat. Grabbing a bite to eat in Nob Hill, a drink at their bar, or simply needing a weekend getaway, look no further. The hotel has been updated in recent years and screams elegance with a modern flare. We love the service each time as well as secured valet parking. It's just a short walk from the Top of the Mark which is plus. A little on the pricey side depending on the day of the week you stay. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
This probably doesn't really need to be said, but it feels pretty weird to be reviewing an SF hotel considering how I, you know...live here. Sure, I've checked out the rooms at a few hotels around The City when I've met up with friends from out of town, but the experience is definitely different as a guest rather than as a visitor/tourist. In no small part because it means having to pay for said room, rather than just hang out at. Man, hotels here really are as expensive as my friends say it is! With one of our best friends getting married just down the block, my buddy and I opted to stay nearby to make it easier on us since we were going to be part of all of the weekend's festivities. As such, we admittedly ended up splitting a room here more for convenience than anything we had heard about Stanford Court. That being said, all of the photos we saw online looked good and, more significantly, the place looked no different in person. Not that we could really tell when we first started to walk up - the hotel is back-set from the curb, so you can't see much of it from the street. Inside, the lobby has a decently modern look and feel to it, which is pretty interesting considering how the hotel itself is on the older side. For our relatively short stay, my buddy ended up booking a TWO QUEEN BED PREMIER INTERIOR ACCELERATOR, which is essentially just their basic two queen bedroom that faces inwards, overlooking the valet area/turnabout below (as opposed to facing the streets outside). Given the $250-ish per night rate we paid though, I would've thought we'd end up with something a little more than basic, regardless of this being the Bay Area and all. That's also before the $30-ish "facilities fee" that they assessed, which presumably went towards the "comp'ed" welcome drink, fitness center, and business center that we never used. As far as the room goes, it's pretty evident that the layout is driven by how limited the space is. Understandable, given the hotel's age, but it's no less awkward, what with a bed butted up next to the door, the lack of a desk or concealed closet (it's pretty much just a rack), and the TV being placed at a 90 degree angle from the beds. That being said, at least all of the staple amenities were accounted for - comfortable beds, toiletries, ironing board, iron, hair dryer, safe, mini fridge, in-room coffee maker, and wi-fi. Just don't expect much in terms of bells and whistles, as there really isn't much to the room that otherwise stands out. BEDS - (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/stanford-court-san-francisco-san-francisco?select=D0uV8hrXcQkLbaivhN0hww) SITTING AREA - (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/stanford-court-san-francisco-san-francisco?select=Gvyb2YGBHM0RAQkqVaNp_A) BATHROOM - (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/stanford-court-san-francisco-san-francisco?select=Dd19WEYQmfPdNDb206DeYQ) SHOWER - (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/stanford-court-san-francisco-san-francisco?select=tUM7CjlyB3Hc0ow0lkvL1w) In terms of service, it was fine for what it is, but I'm certainly not in the best position to judge given how little time we spent here. Although the staff seemed friendly enough, I can't even say much beyond that since we didn't get the room serviced nor did we talk to anyone outside of the check-in/check-out process, for better or worse. All in all, Stanford Court definitely served our intents and purposes, but I assume there are better options around if you're looking for a more fulfilling experience. At the same, you could probably do worse, as well. Yeah, writing this was weird...

Yelp
Positive: if you want to stay in one of the safer and scenic areas of San Francisco. This is the area to be in. You feel safe walking outside this hotel at night and the fairmont is right across the street. The rooms are comfy, clean and the windows open so you can get some air which is all nice. Housekeeping is very friendly. Negative: 1. None of the staff wears name tags or any sort of identification/uniform. They are all basically in plain clothes or business casual wear and it's impossible to tell who actually works here. 2. Some of the staff was not very helpful at all. There were two nice people we met during our stay here that were actually helpful to us and kind but the rest just kinda stand there and talk amongst themselves. 3. The day we were set to check out someone from housekeeping just opened our room's door at 9:30am. Didn't knock or anything. We had just finished watching the Jeffrey Dahmer documentary and were VERY startled to say the least. Overall: if you want a 4 star hotel experience that isn't perfect but is more cost effective than the Fairmont, this place is solid and I would recommend it. Valet parking is expensive ($67) but its secure, which is hard to find in SF unless you are staying at a nicer hotel like this. This price is pretty on par with every other nice-ish hotel in the area so you can't really complain about that. Safe area in Nob Hill, great walking and views of the city, close to the Fairmont which has an nice restaurant and lounge, and walking distance to Union Square. Water pressure: 5.5/10

Yelp
I recently stayed at the Stanford Court for a friend's bachelorette weekend. As a surprise, she told me that she would be paying for my room to thank me for making the trip. When we checked in, we informed the front desk agent that we would be swiping her credit card for the room, and I provided my credit card for any additional incidentals. A week later, I noticed on my bank statement that I had been charged in full for the room. When I called to rectify the situation, I was met with complete pushback, and told that I waited too long to call (a week), and that my reservation had been closed; that I should just ask my friend to venmo me the money; and that there was nothing anyone could do at this point. As someone who has worked in hospitality for the last decade in all different kinds of hotels, I found this experience to put a sour note on what otherwise was a pleasant stay. The hotel refuses to give me back my money, and accept accountability for a mistake that was made on their end. I don't typically write reviews, but this experience has left me feeling completely violated and defrauded. With so many other beautiful hotels in San Francisco, I definitely won't be back to this one, and suggest other travelers look elsewhere too!

Yelp
Worst hotel. Staff could care less and possibly worst experience I ever had. 1 star would be gracious

Yelp
The location can't be beat but it ends there. I think it was recently remodeled, or attempted to be remodeled on a budget so updates were halfway there. The main level was very updated, looked great..but once you go past those elevator doors on to your room, it's like going back in time. Once you're in your room, you can tell how old the building is. The plumbing was soooo loud that you can hear your neighbors take a shower. I had a jail cell of a window, shouldn't even be considered a window. I pretty much had to go on my toes just to peer out. When I did get to peer out, I got a really nice view of another building and an alleyway. They do have some nice room features and good service but overall, it felt like they were trying to compensate with the tech apps, pillow options, etc. for a lot of things the hotel was lacking. If the stay wasn't disappointing enough, nothing like ending the trip with a $100+ invoice for just taxes at checkout.

Yelp
Amazing time! I had a chaotic travel day but was greeted by the kind and smiling face of Averell, he was very kind and patient with my situation. All of the staff is super friendly and the breakfast has to be one of the best hotel breakfast's I've ever had.

Yelp
It's a good hotel if you don't bring your car there. Don't get me wrong, the staffs are nice except for the valet supervisor. They scratch my car during the valet. We checked in during our first day. Got the car the next day cause we were going to Napa valley. The moment we got our car. There was a scratch. I filed a claim and the hotel denied that they were responsible. FYI it was brand new car there won't be any scratches on it. How their system works is so stupid. If they failed to file or inspect the car during valet, that would be there fault. I just decided not to go any further with their unprofessionalism and just had my car fix on my own expense. Again, it's a good place to stay but don't bring your car.

Yelp
Walking distance to Chinatown and everything else, no hotel parking had to park 2 blocks away which isn't bad. $60 for 24 hours parking which beats most spot in the area. Would return...

Yelp
Stayed here two nights for a wedding. The overall lobby area is very nice and modern and the bar is nice and a lot of seating. Valet parking is nice but it's 60 dollars per day. The rooms are overall spacious and modern, however there is only two ice machines in the entire hotel and for the life of me I couldn't figure out to work my blinds/shutters because I believe they were electronic and I had to push buttons to get them to go up and down and I couldn't figure it out.

Yelp
One of the best hotel experiences I have had! From the valet parking service, to the front desk's helpfulness, check in was very easy! The room was small, but very clean and equipped with common sense fittings and eclectic charm. Great city views from 8th floor. Conveniently located on California trolley line. Breakfast area was also a nice touch.

Yelp
I come to San Francisco several times a year, I certainly prefer to use a higher end hotel! So when I found this hotel, I thought perfect location check! Looks clean check! Decor sleek elegant check again! Well so far so fabulous, valet greets us quickly and with a smile! Excellent! We enter the lobby and greeted by a gal who acts as though she's doing me a favor by Checking us in! Then preceded to never make eye contact, answered every question with a monosyllabic reply! I am absolutely fed up with these elegant hotels with equally elegant prices $$$, having staff acting as If I am annoying them, by checking us in! Also another detail, no on else was in line so it was not as though she was hurried by the crowd. P.S to management, This woman needs a reminder on what a greeting is, as well as what good customer service is! This encounter certainly was not it! BTW I would have given your hotel a 5 star review if not for this unpleasant encounter. This hotel is not cheap enough for this kind of nonsense, I hope this is not the usual behavior by your staff, otherwise I do like this hotel very much, but unfortunately I am also not interested in paying for the privilege of having staff being rude to me. I would like to add everyone else from house keeping to the bar staff and Valet everyone was great! So by the time I checked out, I did add another star! Cheers my friends SYOY

Yelp
My son and I stayed here for 3 nights with a friend and her daughter on April 24-27. Let's start with the location: It is in the heart of SF - walking distance from Chinatown, Financial District and Ferry Building. Very convenient! Room: It's modern, recently updated and cleaned. There is a heated towel rack to warm the bath towels. I thought that is a nice touch. Restaurant/Bar: There is a bar and restaurant called Seven Stills. After a long day of site seeing and walking up/down the hills. We just want to settle in and eat nearby. The food is fantastic and reasonable price. The best part is the drinks! Tony, our bartender makes this drink called Petulia? It has vodka, hibiscus tea and something else. It is absolutely AMAZING! I'd look forward to that drink each night when I return to the hotel. Shout out to our waiter, May. She is very attentive and always check on us to make sure our water and drinks are filled. Oh, the breakfast in the morning is really good too. Tea, coffee and juice is complimentary. Gym: The gym is located on the lobby level. It's not big, but it has everything you will need for your workout. I was super excited to try the Peleton bikes. These bikes cost over $3,000 and top quality bikes. Overall, We are very happy and satisfied with our stay at Stanford Court. I personally preferred boutique hotel. It's more personal and friendly environment compared to the big chain.

Yelp
Stayed this week and was very happy with the room and cleanliness ! Ate at the bar first night and the food was very good. The only issues we had was it was a busy hotel and they only had ONE elevator working. It took us from the fifth floor 15 minutes to get en elevator to get to the main entrance ( I am handicapped and could not use the steps ). When we mentioned it to the front desk they seem to be oblivious to the complaint ! They were just too busy to listen to the complaint ! BUT they did ! This morning on check out the manager was more than generous to pay for our breakfast on checkout ! Now that's how you run a business. We will back no doubt !

Yelp
We arrived early for a wedding and after trekking up Nobb Hill, we found ourselves 3 hours early for check-in. Exhausted from an early flight, I asked if our room was ready and the gentleman at the front desk confirmed our room was available. I asked to check-in 3 hours early becasue the room was ready. The man looked me up and down and said "that will be $50 dollars." I confirmed with him that the room was empty and ready for us. Why would it cost $50 to check into an empty room that was not going to be rented out to anyone else in the next 3 hours? He responded "we can watch your suitcase for you if you would like to wait. Otherwise, that will be $50 dollars." The hotel might have been clean, newly renovated, and maybe it even had somewhat of a view, but I could care less after they nickle and dimed me. Standford Court is not a dicount accomodation; however, they act like they are. I can understand needing to recoup losses from the pandemic, but not like this. The $50 early check-in charge cheapened my experience with Stanford Court and I would avoid them in the future.

Yelp
Still our favorite place to stay in SF after many years. It's like an old friend you keep revisiting. Good value for the quality and the location.

Yelp
It's up on a hill. Everything is down a hill. I would not recommend if you have kids or toddlers. Just due to walking you have to do to get around. Parking obviously is terrible in the bay. The place is nice and staff was nice. It was pretty quiet in my room. Room was nice and cool. They do offer food and have a full bar. I will say over priced but convenient.

Yelp
The most remarkable hospitality I've ever experienced. Kind, efficient, and thoughtful under some extreme circumstances no less. We used TSC as our exclusive wedding block hotel and when San Francisco geared up for one of their wettest days in the city's history, also our wedding day, the team jumped through hoops to offer a great space there to have our ceremony when our original venue at the Palace of Fine Arts was no longer workable. I don't know what I would have done without their positive energy and assistance. The Rooms are beautiful, clean and spacious. Housekeeping is so friendly and quick. Their bar/restaurant is excellent. I've been staying here for years since I moved away and have always had a great time but this was just outstanding. I've also stayed at a ton of SF hotels over the years but this one is the ticket. Customer service seems to be fleeting these days but my faith has been restored by Team Stanford Court! Special shout out to Albert, Lauren, Lennin, Goose, Mo, John & Tony tending bar (especially for dealing with our lively and thirsty wedding guests.) The entire crew was amazing. Will never stay anywhere else when we come home to San Francisco. Highly highly recommend!

Yelp
My idiot friend did not follow up with Mark Hopkins InterContinental when booking the room, if it has two beds, apparently, according to fire code in San Francisco, they will not permit the addition of a rollaway bed. So, my options were to sleep on the floor or find my own accommodations. My wife found the Stanford Court with availability for approximately $200/per night, and it is literally one building down the street from the Mark Hopkins. Between the two hotels, I got the better end. The Stanford Court is much hipper and I felt welcomed there for the most part. The bed was very comfortable, there was sufficient space for me to disposition my clothes and whatnot and room temp as set by the hotel staff was quite acceptable. Things I liked: Reasonable cost Filtered water in the gym with in-room water bottles(I used this each day) Comfortable bed with "pillow menu" Relatively quick elevator with rock music playing in it! Complimentary wine at 4:00 pm daily Heated towel bar!!!!! Adjustable shower massage head, and hot water coming on instantly Working refrigerator that I was able to put my dinner leftovers in Nice, clean and spacious lobby area Things I didn't like: The hotel is still under construction in places and there were areas roped off, it just looked janky. There was some sticky residue on the table holding the tv set. It should have been removed by housekeeping, but was still there when I checked out. The folding luggage rack thing was broken and did a lousy job of supporting my suitcase The bathtub was highly scuffed, and looked unpleasant Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the experience, and I would stay here again if in the area.

Yelp
I stayed two(not consecutive) nights here. The rooms arE bigger than most I've seen in SF and have some nice amenities (towel heater anyone?!). The lobby is weird and has no real front desk with unmarked staff roaming about. Strange but whatever. They get bonus points for having an easily seen and accessible EV charging station. Love seeing that and more places should have them. They give you a free drink ticket on your way in.... I was disappointed that it was rail liquor, a few beers and two options for wine. I wanted a Baileys on the rocks (off brand would do) and they didn't have it. The cup of tea I got instead was microscopic in size... tea! The place is a square so inside rooms see a courtyard (quiet) and outside rooms hear all the trolley bells and breaks. All in alll an affordable and decent hotel that's reliable and nice.
google avatar

Stephanie Q.

Yelp
Just no. Stanford Court is a located on top of a hill, if you love walking up hills, stay here. It was impossible to get on the trolley to get up the hill either, becuase the trolley was so crowded. You will be forced to pay a mandatory "resort fee" of $22.80 PER PERSON. So what does this expensive resort fee give you? Access to a pool? NO. Access to a hot tub? NAH. Access to a golf course? You can dream. Maybe some nice cocktails? Rubbish. The resort fee gives you access to what is normally free at most normal hotels: Water bottles so you can use the water filter. The water filter is only on the 1st floor in the lobby and in the gym on the 2nd floor. I don't need your cheap water bottle, I have my own and I can just drink tap water. Fitness Centers. Wow... I've never had to pay to use a gym in a hotel. Oh... and most importantly, you get to wake up to drilling every morning! I wish they had warned us about construction going on all day, starting in the morning. But nobody told us during check in. It was very unpleasant to wake up to the sound of drilling, then to find out that construction is going on in the hotel. There is a "lounge" where you can pay $20-$30 to eat crappy breakfast- such as sliced toast, and cereal. I just looked at the website and was not able to find anything about the resort fee. The gym is labelled under "amenities" so people would assume it is free. It would be nice if there was a sign saying... you have to PAY to use the gym. The room was pretty big, but the bed was not that comfortable. It was a little soft for my liking. Even though we were on the highest floor, we could sure hear construction. Don't be deceived by the reviews that say that this is a 4 star hotel. If you think you are getting a good deal, you are not, because this place is no better than 3 star hotel.
google avatar

Karen W.

Yelp
We had a pleasant stay at the Stanford Court. Check in was easy, and our room was comfortable and quiet. We had a room on the second floor with a view of the lobby that is being remodeled. There were one or two days where I could hear construction but that was only during the daytime. The bathroom was a bit small but the shower/tub combo worked fine. The water was on the slow side to drain but that was the only thing that was an annoyance otherwise. One plus about this hotel is the nice towel warming rack! It's a great thing to have in San Francisco where it's usually chilly and it takes a long time for things to dry. The one thing I thought was a bit weird was the automatic flushing toilet that you normally see in public restrooms. I can see it as being useful in a public restroom but whenever we walked past the toilet to get something from the shower or went to reach something from the towel rack the sensor would go off which got annoying over time. I do like how there are bottle water refill stations on the ground floor and in the fitness center. Your room will come with a water bottle too so you can use it at those stations. I didn't end up going to the fitness center to work out but the machines looked really nice and they had a good variety to choose from. Other free beverages aside from filtered water include hot coffee and tea in the mornings. The coffee is really good! The bed was very comfy, as were the pillows. I had no problems sleeping. The room also came with a coffee maker, mini fridge that used to be a mini bar, hair dryer, and safe. The cable here seems to be a limited package deal since some channels such as Food Network weren't available. I didn't mind too much though since they don't play anything good on the weekends when I'm watching. I already knew about the extra fee added to the room before checking in but the front desk person did alert me to it when we arrived. I personally would rather have this cost up front and have a more expensive room when I book rather than having it tacked on when you arrive. The major negative for us was that we had planned to take the bus to all of our journey throughout the city. The bus is a short distance away but you have to hike up and down quite a few steep hills. We definitely got our cardio workout during this trip! Overall it was a nice stay. I'm not sure I would stay here again simply due to the hills you have to walk up and down to get to the bus but I did like the hotel.

Yelp
Beautiful, very clean, the food was excellent! The service all around was professional, courteous and I would love to stay here again.

Yelp
We arrived late & had no issues checking in. It happened to be my bday wknd & Jeffrey who helped us check in hooked us up with a nice upgrade & free breakfast for one day this was great. We had the breakfast the next day buffet style I had some eggs very good, great pancakes & crispy bacon. Some good fruits & fresh breads. We had room #537 a bit far from the elevator but not bad over all, nice views, comfy bed, room service & fresh toiletries every day they smell amazing. Upon our arrival we were given the hotel water bottles this is nice, they have a water station in the lobby for refills which came in handy. Overall we had a lovely stay at this hotel, nice location, good prices & service.

Yelp
Modern remodel on an established hotel. Cool artwork and features in the lobby. Front desk check-in and out is clunky. Huge computer monitors block your view of the hotel employee so you're speaking to the unattractive back of a computer. Lobby restaurant/bar is just okay. Not really comfortable high table tops mix with small tables. Breakfast is confusing. Room decor is cool however all rooms facing the street are on cable car lined streets (Powell, California) and the windows allow much noise and rattle. Cable cars run until midnight so although it's a nice view, it is very loud. Construction going on across the street on a large high rise as well so additional noise. Service overall at the hotel is hit and miss, mostly miss. Lovely workout facility is a plus however not sure I would stay here again.

Yelp
I was not informed of the $30 Urban Fee Bundle until I saw it on my bill at checkout. The young woman who checked us in did not explain it nor did she go over any of the activities or benefits included in the bundle. She did not even give us the branded refillable water bottles included in the bundle. We were handed bottles by the night reception clerk when we asked where we could find bottled water and he pointed us to the filtered water dispenser around the corner. We stayed one night and were unable to use any of the line items included in the Urban Bundle. And yes, the Urban Fee Bundle is in addition to the San Francisco tax. The $67 for parking seems excessive, especially because the valet never informed me that our car was waiting for us when I asked for it in the Valet app. We sat in the lobby for 30 minutes waiting for our vehicle, before I simply walked outside and saw it parked and blocked in off to the side. When the bellboy brought up our bags after checkin, he made a big deal out of explaining the towel warming feature of the towel rack in the bathroom. Turns out our towel warmer did not even work. A room that I booked at $174/night ended up costing me $342 for one night. Never again, Stanford Court.

David S.

Yelp
When we arrived, we were told that the hotel had been been overbooked. Overbooking is not an excuse, it's mismanagement! This was a 45th Anniversary trip for my wife and I, so I had reserved a King Room with a City View 4 months in advance, because I wanted our two nights in SF to be magical. Instead, they downgraded us to one of the worst rooms in the hotel with no view, unless you count the roof of the hotel lobby. The room was dark and depressing. They did move us the second night and comped two breakfasts, but 50% of our stay was not what it was supposed to be. When a hotel is mismanaged and overbooked, they have to pick winners and losers. I suspect they picked us as losers for a downgrade because our room was prepaid and non-refundable through Booking.com. In my view, a prepaid reservation is like a contract and they violated that contract with no refund to compensate us for the room we didn't get. So, beware of prepaid reservations through Booking.com (lesson learned) and beware of the Stanford Court Hotel!

Yelp
The hotel's renovations are well done, except it seems the elevators were missed in the technological upgrade. The elevators there were very slow moving to open/close which made you think you were going to get stuck every time you rode it. The room was a nice size, the bed was very comfortable however I was given a handicap room so the shower head only hit shoulder height luckily the head came off for hand held use but the water pressure could be better. The staff at check in were friendly, and welcoming to the hotel. The hotel didn't offer any room service which was a huge let down and they do a breakfast buffet which was disappointing for the price. After the first breakfast I had purchased some food to keep in the fridge however housekeeping had tossed it so I ended up going to the hotel next door for breakfast.

Yelp
Made a room block for my upcoming wedding -- the administrative staff were very helpful and accommodating. I'm especially grateful that they have options for having buses pick up in front of the hotel. Hoping for a great event and experience for wedding guests!

Yelp
I really like the Stanford, the location, the vibe and the rooms! The beds are heavenly and the sheets nice and crisps, I seldom make a trip to San Francisco - literally just once a year but when I do, The Stanford is where I stay. However, on my most recent stay, I was quite disappointed to find a beer bottle at the kitty corner of the second bed, it made me think how well they cleaned the room for the new guest, I hope this never happens again as it has now put a doubt in my mind on how well they cleaned everything in the room - hygienically speaking, it is cringe worthy. I do believe though that this was an honest oversight as I said, I've always stayed here before without mishaps, it was however unfortunate as being a well above average hotel and in such a prime spot, I do expect more attention to matters like this from the staff - the management. I will most likely stay here again as the pros somehow outweighs the cons (that mishap I mentioned for that matter) but I really do hope the matter does not happen again.
