Štangl - Review - Karlín - Prague - The Infatuation

"Chef Martin Štangl’s eponymous Nordic-influenced fine-dining restaurant in the Karlín neighborhood, just out of the historical center, is confusing at first. Above Eska bakery, the dining room and kitchen have no barriers, so when, say, going to the bathroom, you can high five a sous chef who’s sautéing one of your five courses—such as grilled rabbit blended with saffron and mustard or whatever else the kitchen staff foraged in the nearby Bohemian forests. You’ll have a wine pairing choice between continental or Czech wines, and you should go with the latter (more affordable) choice for some funky natural varieties from south Moravia, the Czech Republic’s up-and-coming wine country. On Saturday morning, you can feast on the (not cheap, but very satisfying) three-course breakfast." - David Farley

Incredible fine dining experience. Even though this was fine dining it felt very approachable and laid back. I loved it. The food was incredible. We took the menu and didn’t regret also there’s wine pairing and non alcohol wine pairing. Which I personally really recommend. The place is decorated with all the natural produce, fruits and vegetables. Also pickles and other marinated goodies. Also it’s an open kitchen so you can see the chefs working on your food. Would recommend this as number one place to come to in Prague’s

The experience was exquisite. Elegant but easy flowing and approachable. There were some extraordinary surprises in the best of ways. The Czech wines we had were interesting, adventurous, and delicious. Coming from a Californian that enjoys the best wine in the world -- Czech wines were exceptional and opened up our eyes to this region of the world from a viticulture perspective. The food was diverse and a journey of flavors. Faves were white asparagus with egg yolk, trumpet mushrooms, and brown butter then lamb and also the poached pikeperch was fantastic. All around great meal and experience. This place is off radar but not for long....

Amazing menu with perfect service. You are in for a treat! The Czech wine pairing and the non-alcoholic pairings are also a must!

We visited this restaurant 3 days ago. We were lucky because it was fully booked and were on the waitinglist. Friendly staff able to explain everything in English. It is a set menu and option of wine menu 's or non alcoholic. We could get a combination which was great. Amuses were pretty and very tasty. Especially the tomato tart! Second dish with asparagus egg yolk, trumpet mushroom and beurre blanc was complex and surprisingly good (I normally don't like egg yolk). All the other dishes tasted superb! And we got some sweets after finish. When we left we got a present in a box (a profiterole yum) Really would advise anyone, who gets the chance, to eat here!

We had a lovely dinner and experience. Lots of nice surprises along the way! The food and atmosphere were very nice. The view was very nice to see the kitchen but I found it quite warm in the restaurant.

Easily and by far our favorite meal in Prague out of all the popular eateries and fine dining restaurants we tried over the course of a week there. The menu here is refined; dishes thoughtfully crafted. Traditional Czech flavors and techniques are incorporated intentionally with great impact to showcase the ingredients. The struggle my husband and I had with other fine dining we tried in Prague was how the flavors or ingredients tended to be overwhelming. It takes a lot of discipline to know when to hold back, to do just enough, instead of the psychologically safe or exciting thing of adding more layers, more flavors, more ingredients. The crew at Stangl have mastered this craft. The team here clearly understands food. They grow their own greens in-house, pickle and ferment in-house, and experiment with ingredients from other cuisines that show some level of intentionality to explore interesting flavor profiles instead of simply choosing to throw in what's hot and trendy. Beside the flavor and texture pairings being harmonious and delightful, the actual ingredients were prepared impeccably. The service here is wonderful: warm and friendly but never intrusive. They're attentive without making you feel under scrutiny, even though we were the only ones in the restaurant! All in all, if you had to choose one nicer restaurant for your time in Prague, I'd recommend Stangl over others like Marie B or Field. I'm not in a habit of writing reviews, but I felt I must spread the good word about Stangl.

There’s only 2 restaurants with Michelin stars in the city (one star each) and they were expensive and ratings average so we booked this one as our most gourmet meal of our trip and it didn’t disappoint! Food was top-notch. Flavors of most dishes were great and quality of food and execution amazing . For the price, it’s a steal probably because they just opened. Kitchen is very open we were close to it. Impressive how their work. Here’s 3 comments-critics : You have the choice between the 3 and 6 course meal. We booked the 3 course meal and regretted it when we saw how small the main dish was. Fortunately, they are super generous with additional small bites so we were ok! Drink list is too expensive especially the Wine List by the glass (quality average and small size in our opinion). Service could be a bit better. Some details are missing for such a restaurant. It doesn’t match the food. Per example, they didn’t clean the table after the main course.
