On the Grid : Stan's Donuts

"This bakery is a small hole-in-the-wall with a lot of punch. They make house made donuts that has been in the neighborhood for almost 40 years! Stan's offers unique donut flavors like the peanut butter & banana, chocolate cinnamon cheese danish, and the blueberry buttermilk bar. This place is a Westwood Village staple, with its donuts withstanding the test of time and offering fresh donuts on the daily that are still loved by the people of the neighborhood." - Grace Duong

LA’s Classic Stan’s Donuts Has Closed Forever After 55 Years in Business - Eater LA

"Stan’s Donuts, a legendary Westwood stop, has closed permanently after 55 years. The doughnut shop was known for its simple glazed doughnuts filled with things like peanut butter and banana or jelly. It served generations of UCLA students and greater Westside locals from its unassuming storefront. Owner Stan Berman decided to retire and posted a personal closure notice to the shop’s website." - Farley Elliott

Stan’s Donuts Review - Westwood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Open since 1965, Stan’s is a Westwood classic and one of the last remaining old-school spots in the area. It features more than 75 varieties of donuts, but your first move needs to be the peanut butter-filled pockets. That said, good luck bringing yourself here after 10pm and making any sort of rational decisions." - Brant Cox

This extra small donut counter has been there for almost 55 years. They have the classic, their specialty is the Huell: peanut butter/ chocolate donut, I tried it, it's delicious; I also had a pretty good apple fritter. Look for their other specialties, for such a small place they have a lot of variety. Street parking is hard, there are some lots close by.

Delicious, warm and buttery yeast doughnuts that melt in your mouth and come in a wide variety of flavours. The cake doughnuts were a bit dry and stale and we didn’t finish it, but the yeast ones were excellent!

Only after walking in did I realize it shares space w/ Flame Broiler 😆 I thought I was walking into the wrong place. The inside was a bit run down; still okay to sit and have some doughnuts and coffee 🙂🍩☕️ We had the Kenny G Raisin Cinnamon Roll and the Apple Cinnamon Log—both yummy 🤤 and an ideal texture and sweetness (not overly sugared 😅). Would come back again if I’m in the area.

On a personal food tour, on the bucket list. Small place shared with another vendor. Doughnuts were delicious and too much! Perfect!

stan’s donuts is a legend. i’ve been eating these donuts for almost 30 years, and they will forever be my favorite donuts of all time, no matter what. everything is made fresh every morning, and it shows. the selection is diverse, and everything tastes great. stan still makes appearances. it is also quite literally one of only a few places that has survived the high tenant rotation in westwood over the last several decades.

Great donuts! Try the peanut butter and chocolate or peanut butter and jelly. Pricey donuts but they taste fantastic.

I've been looking for good donuts for a while now and recently tried these. They have a vaguely savory taste here, making me suspect they use some amount of pork fat when frying them. It makes the inherent richness more appreciable, something that goes a long way in a simple donut. It's important for a donut to taste like it justifies its calorie count. These do and while the quality doesn't extend to everything they sell the classic glazed earn them full marks.

My first taste of Stan's donut creations was back in 1970. All these years later it is still creating delicious donuts. It had been more than a few years since I've been here (1999 to be exact) but I found myself thinking other morning at UCLA and just had to check it out. Ah, it has only gotten tastier over the years. Their fritters are still as good or better than I remember, my favorite has always been their custards varieties and had to pick up a few for the drive back home. So good....so good....
