The Cowboy Brunch burger — its patty, fried egg, grilled onions, bacon, house-fried pickles, and cheeses piled onto Texas toast — is a can’t-miss dish. If bacon is a must, go for the Miss Piggie, which comes with sweet-savory candied bacon. "Stanton’s City Bites in First Ward may be filled with walls of memorabilia, a diner-style stool counter, and other architectural items that say, “This building is old,” but the burgers are anything but. Each half-pound burger arrives in a pillowy, soft, and buttery bun and is absolutely crammed to the gills with thematic toppings. Like the Miss Piggie Burger: a bacon and beef patty paired with a large hash brown and candied bacon. Or the Spicy Chipotle with a jalapeño-laced bun dripping in chipotle mayo. Even the original version satisfies any burger purist with its thick patty and patina of grill flavors. "This counter spot in First Ward serves over-the-top burgers in a nostalgic atmosphere. Like a museum, but for griddled beef. As with most museums and their stringent no-touching policies, the only PDA you’ll witness here is folks enjoying some burgers. Like the spicy chipotle with its thick schmear of chipotle mayo or the Miss Piggy pork burger with an entire hashbrown sandwiched inside. "One of the best ways to avoid any uncomfortable check splitting equations with someone you barely know is to go the counter service route. At Stanton’s City Bites in the First Ward, not only can you pay for your own meal without feeling guilty for not offering to pay for theirs, but you can also get a truly excellent burger. Even better, you will be so busy stuffing a spicy chipotle burger into your face that you’ll be incapable of having any kind of intimate conversation. Fill those awkward silences by wiping the spicy mayo from the corners of your mouth or taking a big swig of iced tea. Just keep chewing and nodding. Every bite makes us wonder why the burgers here taste so unbelievably good: Is it the bread? The beef used for the patty? Is it the fact that you feel like you're on the set of Happy Days while eating there, or is it the smell of caramelized beef wafting from the kitchen like some kind of meat-themed perfume counter? It’s probably all of those things, as well as toppings like a whole hashbrown or piles of blue cheese.
