The Best New Restaurants in Chicago | Eater Chicago

"Chicago has a large population of Michiganders attempting to colonize the city with their blue and maize shirts or green and white hats. Fortunately, Sharpies, which features Detroit pizzas (square pan pizza with chewy caramelized crusts) lacks any of that ambience. Instead, visitors are treated to a sci-fi motif with a huge UFO and an alien dog named Sharpie as the mascot. The restaurant, from the owners of Ada Street, serves some of the best pizza in Chicago, the kind of Detroit pizza that competes with the Motor City’s best. There’s also awesome double-fried chicken wings and a pair of vintage video games in front. Sharpies is the real deal." - Ashok Selvam

Chicago’s Best Pizza Restaurants | Eater Chicago

"Sharpies is a new Detroit-style pizzeria near the corner of Elston and North Avenue with some of the best pies in Chicago, squares so good that they could give some of the Motor City’s best competition. The restaurant is from the owners of Ada Street, a beloved fine dining establishment that’s also in the area, and diners can tell the pizzas are assembled by a chef who cares about technique and knows their way around the kitchen. The standard bearers of a fennel-forward sausage or Ezzo pepperoni cups are wonderful, but make room for specials that are as out of this world as the pizzeria’s alien mascot." - Ashok Selvam

Chicago’s Best Chicken Wings | Eater Chicago

"Sharpies is a trip along Elston, a new pizzeria specializing in Detroit squares. But no one can live on pizza alone, and the owners, a pair of Ada Street veterans, have poured their talents into the drinks and sides. The wings, which are spun in a number of sauces, are breaded and have an exceptional crunch because they’re double-fried. Those with dental work beware. But it’s worth it." - Ashok Selvam

My experience at Staples has been mixed. The first time I visited, everything went smoothly — great service and quick turnaround. Unfortunately, my second visit was a different story. I brought in something to be printed first thing in the morning and was told it would be ready by 6 PM. When I came back, it wasn’t done, and the response I got was basically, “Too bad, come back tomorrow.” No real apology or effort to make it right. The customer service felt indifferent, and I was pretty disappointed after such a good first visit. Overall, the service is hit or miss.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We were hesitant to visit the Staples on Wabash because of downtown traffic and parking, but what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be! I met Cassandra, who immediately helped me with my quit claim deed and offered incredibly helpful insight and information. She even assisted me with making copies and was effortlessly multitasking—translating for another customer in Spanish while still making sure I was taken care of. We were going through a really heavy, emotional process, and Cassandra made me feel grounded and understood. It’s rare to come across someone so kind, capable, and calm under pressure. The cashier was also incredibly nice, encouraged me to sign up for rewards, and even though another customer was waiting, didn’t mind that I stayed off to the side to organize my documents. Staples, you’ve hired amazing people. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I Walked in (this being my first time going to this store )and was right away greeted by Cassandra not only was she helpful she did it with a smile that was welcoming. She went out of her way to make sure I found what I needed. Thank you Cassandra

I called today to cancel an order I placed by mistake on the wrong Staples, and the employee (I don't know her name, I'm sorry I should have asked) helped me with patience, and she was very kind and professional. She did not give any attitude like the people that work on Canal St. She was splendid. Thank you for your help.

Google
Staff today (5/13) was wonderful! We were greeted and guided the moment we walked in. Sabrina helped us with TSA Pre-Check and was extremely upbeat, kind, and quick — superb worker! Also, there was a rather loud and needy customer, but the team seemed really attentive to her. We were surprised by the quality of service, especially for a loop location.

Google
Horrible customer service. I came in on 3/7/25 at around 5pm with one item to return. As soon as I walk in, the store is basically empty and quiet. There are two cashiers and I went up to them to ask where to do returns and before I even say a word, the female cashier doesn’t even look at me for a second yells “Over there”. So I clarify I have a return to make and she gets immediately annoyed and yells once again “Over there”. I walk to the empty counter to see a man working on a printer behind the counter and he says to wait for him there with my return item. He says “I’ll be with you in about 10-15 minutes.” He proceeds to stand in front of me and use the printer. After a few minutes I turn around and see the store is empty and the cashiers are standing at the registers talking. I ask him if anyone else can help me, I have one item to return and have the barcode ready. He says no and that they are short staffed and if I don’t want to be patient I can leave and come back another time. I would understand if the store was actually busy, but considering I was one of the only customers in the whole store and the gentleman was standing right in front of me telling me I had to wait up to 15 minutes for a return that took about 45 seconds to complete was absolute nonsense. Not only were the workers extremely rude, but they clearly don’t respect their customers.

Google
Staples in the Loop is my go-to spot for quick office supplies and printing services. I came in for a last-minute print job, and the staff got it done in no time, even though it was busy. They’ve got everything you need, from pens to furniture, and the tech section is solid if you're looking for laptops or accessories. I ended up spending about $25 on a few office essentials and a couple of printed materials. The place is super convenient, right in the heart of downtown, and the staff is always helpful and friendly. If you need to grab something for work or school, this is your spot.

Google
I had an excellent experience with Jay in Marketing at this location. I contacted him with some questions about printing postcards and he was very patient and accommodating in answering my questions. The postcards came out beautifully and they were ready earlier than anticipated. Jay and the Marketing team provided me with exceptional, high quality service and I am very grateful. Thank you!!!

Yelp
Visiting Chicago for a conference, and in need of some items that I had left behind, I'm glad that I was steered here by Palmer House staff, because staff member Kenyatta exceeded all expectations. Brief store visit netted everything that I needed, and the items I bought were because Kenyatta knew her store and what was in stock.

Yelp
I get my office supplies here regularly. We order with an account and the pick up service is great. Staff has always been helpful and quick.

Yelp
In the midst of my family grieving the loss of a dear family member who suddenly died during this holiday season, I found relief in the obituary printing fee quoted by associate Jay! Well, to my surprise and devastation I arrive back to the store to place the order and was quoted almost $400 more than the original quote. No one cared that we were misquoted. There wasn't any support from anyone including the store manager on duty Reggie. Unfortunately, the funeral is in two days and we do not have obituaries! This was the best quote offered, so now no one can get our order completed in time! Where is the customer service or even empathy at a time like this Staples? I am hoping to get help from Peter or Richard. I have no choice!!!

Shannon C.

Yelp
Worst Staples I've ever visited. Useless customer service--wouldn't help me find what I had seen on line, didn't know the difference between printer ink and card stock. They mark the prices up compared to what is listed online for the same store, and will only match the price you saw and printed out if you find it online and show it to them. No assistance with anything from staff even though no one was in line. Shop elsewhere.

Susan N.

Yelp
Same manager still working there treating customers poorly. Wouldn't even hand me my Amazon Fire devise back. Placed it on the counter and waited for me to pick it up. They sell you these useless warranties and then never stand behind them. This woman couldn't work for McDonalds. I told her I was trying to get her fired and she said "And I'm still working here." She hasn't a clue as to how these useless warranties work but continues to misrepresent them....or just lie about them. I'm not sure if she is just ignorant or just a liar. You cannot simply return them "no questions asked". I was just on the phone for 30 minutes with assurance, was cut off, called back and was told, "someone will be in touch with me but it was not guaranteed that I would get a new device " which is what I was told when I bought the warranty. Otherwise I would not have bought the warranty. The instant ink is also a scam. Cancel the "free" ink and it will no longer work. The Staples manager genius doesn't believe that either. DON'T GO TO STAPLES....DON'T BUY THE WARRENTY....THEY TREAT THEIR CUXSTOMERS LIKE DOGS.

Yelp
READ THIS IF YOU WANT A BETTER ALTERNATIVE TO THE SOUTH LOOP LOCATION!! If you search my past reviews you will see that this is not my first time at the Staples rodeo. I literally just left the Staples in South Loop, at 4 o'clock where I felt slightly racially profiled and definitely a lack of customer service. Would like to again extend a very warm thank you to, Gail at that location for her professionalism that unfortunately was overshadowed by the complete disregard of customer service by her two staff mates. I do recommend Gail be placed at the head of training for customer service at that location. That being said let's get into the stars. The first star goes to Richard all by himself for his absolute incredible service and impeccable stamina. Even after an incredibly long day dealing with the hustle and bustle of the loop population, he was still kind, still personable, and assertive. It is so refreshing to see someone who is impeccable with your job and committed to just being a good human being. The second star goes to The Beautiful Louise, who also was super personable and impeccable with her customer service. Before I could even open my mouth to her she welcomed me and asked me how could she assist me, while it seems small it's the choice of words and the demeanor of delivery that make all the difference and she really brought it home. The third star goes to the gentleman behind the counter at check out whose name I did not ask, but was also efficient, personable, and great at his job. The fourth star pic goes to the quality of the product at hand, as I have printed at this location before and it maintains a great quality every time. The final start goes again to Staples which is an awesome company and one of which I really hope to see continue thrive. Would actually really love to see Richard and Louise, along with Gail if they were interested be promoted to customer service overhaul team, where they traveled to different Staples to train and help re-organize the customer service energy at each location.

Yelp
The customer service is great and the employees are very knowledgeable about products. They're helpful and I love how there's 3 year protection on Apple Purchases. I got a $10 OFF next $20 purchase. The store is clean and the staff do not rush you out. I left the receipt in another purse on the 16th so I couldn't recall the employee names to shout them out.

Julie P.

Yelp
I received very good service at this location thanks to the printing team! Would definitely recommend.

Russ K.

Yelp
Their website says they have passport photos. Signs in the store say passport photos. But after waiting in line, i was told they don't do passport photos. Good one, Staples.

Susan M.

Yelp
I highly recommend Richard who handled our printing for a conference. he met the timeline for a quick turnaround. We received super service. we will definitely have Richard do all our printing needs , the next time we are in Chicago!

Yelp
Not just Asiah, but especially Ashiah the store gets a 5 from this limited-time reviewer. In a hurry, I need a legal form. Stopped at the front check out. "Downstairs, turn right, aisle 18." Asiah also made sure one of her co-workers met me as I came off the escalator. Perfect, quick shopping experience. THANKS!

Yelp
Work from home essentials. I must have been printing more documents lately, and my black ink printer cartridge decided it wanted to give up the ghost. I usually go to Target for my replacements, since I don't want to wait around on Amazon, and I don't have a Prime Membership. Well, Target's shelves were completely stripped clean when I went in last Friday. I remembered there is a Staples near the Garland Building, on the corner of Wabash Avenue. The sales person knocked it out of the park, helping me locate the last black ink cartridge of the type that I needed. The cashier went above and beyond, telling me I could recycle my old one (which I so happened to have brought with me, so I could compare the model number) and signed me up for the Staples Rewards program. Thank you, Staples, for making it easy to keep on printing!

Yelp
Came here to print a passport photo since Walgreens charges $15 to take and print them. The employee who helped me was friendly and I was in-and-out the door in just a few minutes. And it cost me less than $2. There's a self-service area with 5-6 big copy/fax machines and it's pretty easy to print physical or digital documents, you just have to email the document to a specific address and you get a barcode to scan at the machine.

Yelp
3 PM Thursday - my colleague tells me we need business cards for an 8 AM meeting Friday. Ummmmm....I design them on the Staples website and push the order through. It comes back saying they won't be ready until 8:30 PM Friday. I call Staples. I tell her my dilemma. She puts me on hold for about 3 minutes, comes back and tells me they'll be done by 8:30 AM Friday. I get an email at 9:30 PM Thursday telling me they're ready for pickup. I go get them, they're perfect and I have them well before the investor's meeting. Thanks Staples print lady (whoever you were) for helping me in a crisis!!!

Had to get some printing done and Richard was friendly, helpful and FAST! Very convenient and easy to find what you are looking for. Even though it was busy, the lines moved fast!

Yelp
This store has always been really convenient for me whenever I need things for school or for work. I have been going to this particular store for years and never had any problems. I love the customer service, can always get help when I need it. I bought a laptop from here a few years ago and it lasted me about 4yrs... one of the best laptops I ever bought. Staples has good return policies as well because the first laptop was damaged and they exchanged it with no problem. I've also recently bought a printer here after struggling with an old one for years that I finally got rid of. I ordered it the night before and it arrived the next morning, great service. I hope they continue their business models the way it is for years to come.

Ana R.

Yelp
So incredibly thankful to Richard and the staples printing and marketing team at the Staples. The white glove experience they provided has been unmatched. I've had to work with dozens of printing stores across the country (big chains and smaller stores) and the Staples merits 5+ stars for their customer service and expertise they offered. Thank you so much!

Yelp
Store review: Still overpriced, but Staples occasionally will have a good deal. I have not found the super clearance items you find in the suburbs, but I recently needed to buy a ipad usb charger cable after my son pulled it apart. I checked around and none of the other electronic stores carried it at a reasonable price. I was surprised to find that this location had them at 19 dollars which is by no means cheap, but it was a official apple cord. The main floor of the store is in the basement which has quite a inventory, but not a lot of good deals. Even the clearance bins next to the escalator were overpriced. The staff member was friendly for checkout. She even tried to scan the 15% off coupon which did not take as this was a apple product. If you are in a bind and can't wait for amazon or newegg to deliver this might be a alternative worth looking into. Pros: check the online inventory before visiting to ensure they carry the item, a variety of office supplies Cons: expensive office supplies Hidden deals: 1. Sign up for staples reward to earn 5% reward back and free shipping online. 2. Recycle any ink or toner cartridge, up to 10 per calendar month per customer, and, if the Member has spent at least $30 in ink and/or toner purchases at Staples over the previous 180 days, the Member will receive $2 back in Staples Rewards per cartridge. **FYI MAKE SURE YOU READ THE FINE PRINT BEFORE TURNING IN YOUR INK** 3. Check your email after purchases to get special staples coupon including the 25 dollar off 75 dollar one time use 4. Check online for your coupon wallet for additional coupons

Yelp
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. I'm always greeted immediately and the team has been able to answer all of my questions. Good training and management of employees. Convenient location.

Yelp
I work downtown and shop at this store about once a month. I only go here if Target or one of the drugstores don't have what I need. There's a cashier who is one of the rudest people I've ever met. I always seem to get the same cashier whenever I shop here. Every transaction is a struggle. I'm not going to give her name, but I hope one of the store managers sees this and responds. I avoid this store unless I absolutely have no other options just so I don't have to deal with this cashier's attitude.
google avatar

Michele Z.

Yelp
If you have to scan docs to your own email, DO NOT GO HERE!! First, it costs $.55 per PAGE. SERIOUSLY??? Just EXACTLY what is it that I'm using that costs $.55?? I'm not using toner; I'm not using THEIR paper; I'm using a few minutes of electricity and the cost ended up being TWICE what Fed Ex would've charged for an overnight delivery. Second, their scanners (I tried TWO), jam ALL THE TIME!! Third, although their scanners have settings to scan 8.5"x14", THEY DO NOT!! So NOW, I have to use up MY valuable time to go to a Fed Ex/Kinkos to have my 8.5"x14" pages scanned AND now ALL my docs are OUT OF ORDER!! Fourth, they're busy and they have one poor guy trying to help everyone at the counter. For God SAKES ... HIRE MORE PEOPLE YOU CHEAP ASSES!!! Eventually a 'manager' (if she wants to call herself that then by all means but if you ask ME?? No!) wearing a beige shirt came waltzing over to help me but eventually figured she'd done enough and walked away. WTF!!! STAY AWAY FROM HERE IF YOU WANT TO STAY SANE!
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
This is the first Staples in downtown Chicago, and when it first opened they made a big deal about it with little musical bands and free sticky notepads. It's not a bad store, as sometimes they have really great deals not found at Office Depot or Office Max. If you really need copy paper, pick up a ream here.
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
When I needed 5 boxes of a specific rag-content stationery and matching envelopes, a 40-sheet electric stapler and 4 Gb flash card, where did I go? The OfficeMax Express on Michigan? NO! To my favorite itsy bitsy Staples on Wabash. For a Loop office supply store a mere fraction the size of a suburban supply store, they have a surprising amount of merchandise. The one thing they don't carry which other stores do is furniture. Sans the typical particle board desks and uncoordinated chairs, they spend their precious floorspace selling what 98% of us really need: Post-It notes in funky shapes and colors, overpriced binders in every imaginable color and size, umpteen paper (and now disc!) shredders, more ink jet and laser printer models than anyone should need, and myriad electronic gadgets. Because let's face it: when you need some #10 self-adhesive envelopes and you can't break into your work's supply cabinet after hours, Staples is there to keep your sanity.
google avatar

Clara Y.

Yelp
Worst customer service. Went to print something out and asked a simple question of which printer it goes to and the guy behind the counter at the print station gave such attitude just to tell me which printer the computer prints to. All I did was ask a simple question. Was it that hard to just respond nicely without an attitude?
google avatar

Amy Y.

Yelp
I ordered a brand new monitor and it was dead on arrival, but I called a month later as I was away on business trip and did not have time to test out the product. I called the store and they report since I called 14 days after order there is nothing they can do. I will never order another electronic from Staples again.
google avatar

Marx Blythe B.

Yelp
5 stars because even if I have waited a little longer to have some photos printed, they offered their service for free simply because I waited long enough. It's a very empathetic branch I may say. Thanks a lot to Richard for his services despite the busy atmosphere.

Rick G.

Yelp
This store has always been my favorite. When the manager realized that I was disabled, he went downstairs in the store and retrieved the item I was trying to purchase. Plus, they have always been so friendly and personable.
google avatar

Mopsie B.

Yelp
I have now visited this location twice, at different times if day, hoping to get some help. On both occasions, I was totally ignored and never even greeted. I am not sure what the employees are doing, but they lack the most basic of customer service skills. The store itself is gross, too. Seems dirty and most of the tech items are in a hot basement. Based on these two horrible experiences, I won't be back.
google avatar

Emi D.

Yelp
Terrible service. I needed to print a few things. I labeled each document with the instructions of how I wanted it done and the staff was just slow, cranky and unwilling to help. I've printed here before and it hasn't been this bad, but Richard just made my experience crazy unpleasant. He also refused to help other customers.
google avatar

Yelp
This is definitely not a Staples worth going to unless you are stuck downtown with no other place to buy office supplies. That was me last week when I was downtown and really, really needed page protectors. Good Lord it was hard to find them. The layout of this Staples is terrible. I know space is tight in the loop, but they could have organized all of this stuff in a better way. The first floor doesn't have anything but reams of paper. That's convenient for all of the offices downtown who are having paper emergencies. However, the rest of the merchandise is almost impossible to find. There doesn't seem to be a logical system of organization on the bottom level of this Staples so I was in there for almost 20 minutes before I finally found where I needed to be looking. Also, don't hope for customer service. The two ladies working at the registers upstairs seemed to be the only people working in the store and they were not friendly, to say the least. I'm hoping I don't ever have to come back to this location. I really love Staples (they are cheaper than Office Depot) and I love their merchandise. I really like the location on Elston a lot better. They're nicer, the store is more organized and it's just a better experience.

Yelp
After my last experience, I will never be shopping at Staples ever again. I don't own a printer since I rarely need to print anything, so I thought I could print something quick and easy at this location just a short walk from my apartment. The first time, I wanted to print a copy of a client contract before a meeting. I opted for the 24-hour online order/in-store pickup and it said it would be ready at 2:00pm the next day. I arrived at the store at 4:00pm and my order was not ready. It was only 4 sheets of paper. I asked how long I would have to wait, and the only person working at the copy center said it would be another 30 minutes. For 4 pieces of paper. I didn't have 30 minutes to wait, so I left the store and scrambled to come up with a solution for my clients. Luckily they were very understanding as this could have lost their business. Things happen, so I decided to give Staples another shot when I needed to print something else recently. This time it was less serious as I needed to print a photo on iron-on transfer paper. I came into the store with my own transfer paper and my file on a flash drive. The copy center employee (the only one on staff at the time) couldn't pull up the file on his computer. He asked if he could format it. And lose all my files? No thank you! Do you know what it means to "format" something? I had to use one of the computers that you need to pay to use, just to show that my files were in fact on the flash drive and it was not my problem. I had to (still paying to use the computer) transfer my files onto another one of his flash drives so he could pull up the files. He found the files and still continued to blame me for it not working the first time. He proceeded to print the files as a test and had trouble resizing the images to my specifications. After all that, we were finally ready to print the images on to the transfer paper. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, he calls his manager to ask for advice. In which is manager tells him their printers are not even able to print on transfer paper. I wasted 30 minutes in this store, and money on the slow Windows computers, just to be told that they could not do what I asked for in the first place. The employee actually had the nerve to tell me to take my "free" prints he just made for me that were only just test prints, to "SOME PLACE THAT MAKES COPIES AND HAVE THEM DO IT." Then he just went to help another customer. I'm sorry if I was mistaken...but isn't this a place that makes copies? The COPY AND PRINT CENTER?! I left the store angry and without a product and was not reimbursed for the unnecessary use of the computer. Nothing is EVER "easy" when I go into this store and just causes me more stress. I will never shop here again.

Yelp
Staples, why do you forsake me and all other persons that pass through your doors? Time and time again I have come into the store with an expectation that they would have what I needed; but instead I see bare shelves, limited stock, and employee standing around chatting with one another rather than helping customers with their shopping needs. When they do they are incredibly rude and unfriendly. The copy station is even a bigger abomination. For one it's understaffed. The single employee that I often see there hasn't had much training with the kind of services that Staples customers need OR he might be so overwhelmed with request that he can't focus on completing a task correctly. I've come in on two occasions to get something copied on transparency and was told once that they haven't had transparency in months (I JUST got a copy of one the day prior) and the next time I would have to wait 30 minutes for a single sheet. Second, if you decide to make a copy at the self service station GOOD LUCK! It's a wreck. Several of the copiers are always broken. If you happen to find a functioning one you might get your documents ruined by the junk and white out goop around the stations. This store is a hot mess. You're better going to Office Depot if you want anything to get done. Good riddance Staples on Wabash!!

Yelp
You know the kind of mad that makes your blood boil and makes you vow to never, ever, visit a store again? That's my STAPLES experience. So I have my heavy load of things I want to pay for, and I go to the area where it says CHECK OUT. I stand there, obviously being seen by at least two employees, when I finally ask if I am in the wrong line. She couldn't even be bothered to speak to me, she just nodded. I then asked where I was supposed to go and she said "Wherever there's a cashier". Well, there was a cashier in an area labeled something else so I figured that was for a different service. So three minutes later, the poor other girl's line has 6 people in it and she asks the other to go to a register. Her answer? "Where's so-and-so!!!" She reluctantly takes the register I was initially standing at, and proceeds to act like a spoiled child through the whole transaction. So I call immediately after to speak to a manager and get put on hold for over 5 minutes each time, without so much as a "hold on, I'll find him." Nope! Directly to muzak. Finally I did get him and he apologized, but also asked for my name which I refused to give him. Never again, STAPLES. You suck.

Yelp
I needed a plastic sign holder for a trade show. They always crack when I attempt to fly with them. I placed an order online, and the order was ready for pickup within an hour. I walked to this location from the Swissotel. Nice staff. They quickly found my order. check out was easy. My only complaint is the number of emails that I have received since I placed the order.

Yelp
Just simple love the store. It's my one stop shop for all my stationery needs. They have a huge warehouse. I would like to specially mention about the staff at the Copy and print section, they are very helpful. Right from taking copies, scanning documents or printing they help you in the best way they can. The prices of the merchandise are also very reasonable.

Yelp
This is the perfect location for those of us who live in downtown. Staples has all the office supplies and accessories you need at a pretty reasonable price..

Moshe B.

Yelp
The store was clean and orderly and the customer service was reasonable and overall positive !!! I went into the store to buy a 901 ink for printer .HP! The price was $ 39?!?!?!? In all the shopping sites that exist on the Internet the prices are around $22 !!! By the way, in every parameter, the prices in the store are many percentages higher than those on the Internet: Amazon, etc. I recommend not to enter the store UNLESS IT IS AN emergency and there is no other choices .. & you will save a lot of money and nerves.

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
I ordered a floor mat for next day delivery on a Monday. Next day it didn't get here, eventually I discovered that delivery guy didn't have enough time and apparently quit at 5 pm. Instead of delivering next day....I would expect it to be first thing...their system reported that it WAS delivered! (not done). Next day after I contacted them, it was to be redelivered. Still no action on day 3; on day 4 they have advised it will be one week after order.....hardly a next day delivery. Now waiting over the holidays to see what turn this takes next. I indicated that others are delivering all day and night, weekends, etc. but apparently Staples has a "9 to 5" schedule and fails to keep customers interests at the forefront.

Yelp
Absolutely garbage. Every single printer for customer use was broken. The only working printers were behind the desk, and the printer person didn't know how to use them. You really don't know how to print with the bond setting? Come on...

Yelp
Ahhhh, nice. One store chain from the Triple Threat of major office supply store chaines-Staples, Office Max, and Office Depot. I don't love just one, I LOVE THEM ALL EQUALLY! I ventured here last Saturday for cheap back-to-school sales after going to the Office Depot on State/Madison and finding it closed until 10. It was 9:30 when I went there, so I decided to venture to this Staples. I've been here before, last Summer, purchasing school supplies for a friend's three kids. Nothing has changed storewise since then, but what made my latest visit to this location so great was a wannabe employee at the store telling me about ID lanyards that the store had for $4.99 a piece. Because she was so nice and so helpful, and so knowledgable, like a Staples employee would be, I decided to purchase a lanyard. Because this place is bi-level unlike many Staples stores, you have to go to the 1st floor to check out. I paid for my lanyard and the .99 folder I picked up from downstairs in the basement and showed my Staples Rewards card that I've had since July 2005. But at an open register next to the one where I was checking out, was the lady who helped me with buying the lanyard. She needed .95 to cover the cost of her purchase, so I went into my wallet and plucked out a $1 bill and gave it to her. Hey, she assisted me so it was my turn to assist her. This really made my day.

Yelp
Pam K was incredible as she helped me select a work chair! I was pleased with her kindness, knowledge, and thoroughness. She went well beyond basic service to help me learn about the features of different models. After shopping a little more, I went back the next day to purchase one of the chairs we found during the online search, Pam M was working downstairs and printed out the slip so I could make the purchase. Stephen was working upstairs and he was also helpful. Wonderful customer service at this store! Much appreciated!!

Yelp
So, I hate Staples. I've had so many bad experiences over the years that it's my least favorite place to buy office supplies. Why might I have gone into one to shop? Well, I have a Staples "cash card" after a fight with Belkin and a returned router. So why the 4 star review? Since getting said card I've gone into the 111 N Wabash location several times to buy school supplies as it's only two blocks from school and usually a better experience than buying from the school bookstore. Just about every time I've been into this store I've gotten extremely quick, polite and helpful customer service, jumps and leaps above and beyond my average Staples experience. This is not what I'd expect, especially from a downtown location, but I wanted to give a shout out to the attentive and positive employees that always make my day a little bit better. Thanks!

Yelp
Convenient: just a block from my house, better than running up the avenue to Best Buy or other drab office stores. Great for quick runs of essential basic items, I haven't really used them for expensive or large purchases for some reason. The staff are nice but hard to find, seems like there is one person if any in the basement. The layout is a little depressing in that all the cool stuff is downstairs with artificial lights, which always dampens my enthusiasm. Relatively easy to find most things by yourself.

Yelp
I went in there yesterday looking for letter size file folders, having walked from Water Tower Place. They were stocked out of their house brand 25s, which had 3 empty slots on the shelves and the house brand 50s had NO slot. The employee said that I could order it from the web site. Well, duh. I'm in the store because I needed it NOW. The branded files were much too expensive. I found that the one type of file folders that TARGET had were cheaper and several better alternatives at the Office Depot a block away, which is much larger. I kind of like the Staples in Glenview. This one? NO.

Yelp
I will never go to Kinko's again. I dropped off my graduate thesis to be bound today at the Washington and Wabash Staples and I expressed my nerves with a really sweet girl who was working there and she just called to let me know she made sure it was bound today so it will be ready for tomorrow. How amazing is that? She didn't have to call to let me know it was done and it was going to be safe. That is definitely going above and beyond for something that only cost me 6 dollars. It can get busy there but, it is really nice to have kind people to interact with when you are hustling to finish something. Seriously. I wish I could remember her name so I could call her out so she can get some recognition for her excellent customer service and just being a great human being.

Yelp
I find that the people here can be pretty helpful! I've would rather go to here than the Kinko's down the street. I needed to print a small book I was making and they were pretty knowledgeable and friendly. Also, they let me bring in my own binding since they didn't have the one I was looking for.

Yelp
I tried to stop in during my lunch break to purchase something today. There was a long line even though all four cash registers open. The first cashier did not know how to refund an online pick up order so he asked another cashier who was wearing blue eyeliner. She came off as very rude and raised her voice the entire time towards both of us as if she was annoyed that someone needed her help. The first cashier seemed normal which is why I'm giving two stars and not one.

Yelp
They made me late. Apparently it takes them 30 minutes to complete a simple scan. The people helping me did not seem concerned about how long it was taking. I think generally the people who help you print here have been rude. At least they didn't make me pay after all that waiting.
