We noticed this place from the High line and we went there because we found Chelsea Market too crowded and noisy. What an amazing decision to visit this place. Very friendly staff and great food. We all ordered something different and all of it tasted great. Size of the portions were also very good. If you're in the area and hungry, you should definitely stop here!

I enjoyed fluffy French toaste with perfect well done 🥓. My daughter enjoyed her delicious looking Mykonos Style Greek Salad with tomatoes, nions,cucumbers,peppers, feta cheese with homemade Greek vinaigrette with imported extra virgin olive oil and chicken. Enjoyable, comfortable and clean in an old style atmosphere diner with excellent service.

Nice quiet diner. I had the big breakfast and it was great, with 2 beautiful pieces of challah French toast, lots of protein, and hash brown patties. Service was prompt and consistently good.

Great place, went here twice because the first time was also great. Cool diner with great and accommodating staff. Pay Manhattan prices, get large servings to match the price. Quality is also amazing. 🙏🏾✨️

Small diner with great service. We come here to get lunch a few times a year. The portions are generous for the prices. Meals that come with soup or salad are a good deal. The soup is a generous bowl size and great starter. Meatloaf with mushroom gravy is my favorite. Steamed veggies and fries are my go to sides. The fries taste unsalted and baked. I’ve had the baked potato side as well. I douse on the condiments here. The garlic bread that comes with this is very basic diner style quality. I wouldn’t think it was garlic bread because it really tastes like plain toasted bread. But the meatloaf is my favorite. The Greek Spinach Pie was delicious with the Greek salad and side of soup. Then it happened. The cook brought out hot fresh corn muffins from the oven at 2pm. We smelled the corn muffins. We saw it. We got it. We asked for honey and butter to go with it. Otherwise the muffin came with grape jelly and butter. We inhaled the muffin like it was dessert. $4.50 for an oversized house made corn muffin. The man seated next to us also got a muffin. The waiter had a good handle on his patrons. As if he could predict what we needed, he’d ask us before we needed to ask him. Amazing service. Edit: I noticed my latest dining bill included a $2.50 charge after items are added up. Then this total is taxed. If you pay with credit card, you are charged an additional tech fee. Great place to go for groups of 4 or less.

The big breakfast was really good for the price and the service was also really good, come here to start your day with an amazing classic american breakfast.

Diners, Drive In's & Dives! Star on 18 Diner Cafe, but it is an old diner that could clearly qualify as a dive. It is a great spot with terrific diner classics.

Diner @ Chelsea, NYCWe came across this diner on the way to the Whitney museum. I had Swiss burger with French fries, the portion was huge and the meat came out well done as requested and was only 12.95. My hubby had fried chicken and the onion rings. He said the chicken was moist and good but the French fries were too greasy. Overall, the food and service was good.

I order pancakes with sausage and hot tea. The pancakes were not that great. They were over cooked not sure how that's possible. The stage was okay. The older lady at the counter I'm not sure if she's the owner but she kept starting at me while I ate as if I was going to run out on the bill. Very uncomfortable. I had a few bites and left.

I love this charming old school diner. I don't get there in person as much as I would like, but I order in from in it all the time. The food is extremely good and always comes hot as if it just came out of the oven. I'm partial to their roast chicken with apple stuffing, but I've also enjoyed delicious breakfasts from this iconic NYC spot.

I've been coming here since the pandemic; about 4 years. My friend and I at this point come here at least 5-6 times a year and the service is always next level. The guy knows what food we order in general, how we like it, and is always extremely friendly to us. The food has changed slightly over the years and the prices even went up twice since we've been coming here. But I simply don't care, the food is still very good and service is always amazing. Not to mention that even with the price raises, the prices didn't go up as dramatically as some other restaurants did. I think here it went from $40 for appetizer entree dessert and a drink to about $50 which is reasonable considering some places charge $65+ for that. Not only that but the transit to this place is stellar, the M14D SBS stops in front of the place and the high line is basically across the street.

Authentic diner food. They serve great gluten free pancakes. It's a diner so the food comes out quick and the service is good.

Great Challah French Toast! The last time I had French Toast this good was at a five star bed and breakfast. It was perfect & delicious. The bread was moist, warm and fluffy. Literally melted in my mouth....I hope it's this good next time! I'll admit, I was a little put off by the exterior of the restaurant. It's tough to judge from the outside whether or not the food is any good. But I think that's true for a lot of things so being open minded, I took a chance and I'm so glad I did! Star On 18 Diner is one of the few remaining real New York Diners. It's hard to believe it still exists, given its great location next to the High Line. The entire neighborhood is rapidly changing and so are the prices- for everything- including food. Chelsea Market has great restaurants but it can get pricey. Star On 18 is very reasonable and the portion size was good. The service was quick - I went there during the day a few weeks ago. I took a photo of the menu. Just looking at it makes me hungry. Will definitely return.

used to be good. i ordered a ruden - i got fried meat, saurkraut on grilled rye- disgusting. the potato salad was good,then i asked for a grilled hamburger. it was very, very greasy- disgusting. the waiter told me he had their ruben - i now know he lied. i will never eat there again. go somewhere else folks.

Easy, efficient, tasty. Classic diner food served with warmth. A friend and I came here for a quick breakfast after the driving range at the Chelsea Piers Golf Club. My friend had an iced tea and eggs, bacon, and toast while I had the corned beef hash with eggs, toast, and coffee. The coffee was hot, service was warm, and food came out super quick. Star on 18 reminds me of the NJ diners that I grew up with and seems to be able to maintain both reasonable prices AND quality food.

My wife has been going to Start on 18 Diner Cafe pretty regularly when she travels into NYC for her hair. This time a friend of mine and I joined my wife for a pre-travel home dinner and overall we all had a super experience. My wife being known certainly helped, but they were all so friendly and accommodating while my buddy and I sat at our table waiting for my wife to join us. We ordered a chicken quesadilla app which they customized into equal thirds so that we each had a good tasting starting experience. Next, I ordered a lamb gyro platter with a greek salad served over a pita. The lamb was the most moist gyro meat I've ever had carved and served. Many places overcook and carve dried out meat. This was robust with flavor and was easy to cut with a fork. The salad was all fresh ingredients. My wife ordered the shrimp scampi over rice. Holy cow, talk about jumbo shrimps and they were cooked to perfection. Moist, tasty, succulent. A superb meal. Don't judge a book by its dust jacket, hence don't judge this great find by the exterior and yes it looks like a quaint NYC diner inside, but the cooking is truly homemade and no skimping. They have beer and wine as well.

Great local classic diner. Comfortable booths, yummy diner food, fast service, friendly staff. Hard to find classic New York diners that are still affordable and this one definitely hits the mark. Highly recommend!

The juxtaposition of this diner and the fancy Park right next door is so comical. The Park is lit up, intentionally attention-grabbing, and lively. Star on 18 Diner doesn't give two shits about what passersby think of it. They do their thing, no frills, and they're out. They are who they are and you take it or leave it. I love it!!! They tell you to seat yourself once you enter. Booths throughout the place. I ordered a veggie omelette, which comes with home fries or potatoes, and I loved it. I only finished half of it because it was a big portion. And the veggies were plenty. I hate that there was a $3 charge to switch out potatoes for a salad, though. My friend ordered two eggs and bacon, and it seemed to be a good portion. And I think the prices are fair compared to other diners in the city. You get a good bank for your buck.

This is the little cafe that my wife and I trudged past on a super walk south to South Ferry from the Javits Center years ago! We got lost in the West Village. We love the rooftop that has bushes and small trees growing on top. It is just up the road from Barry Diller's IAC Interactive media center near Chelsea Pier.

Good food, NYC diner price, native vibe. I got the pancakes, eggs, and bacon to go. The pancakes were great and traditional diner style fluffyness. 4 pieces of bacon. Eggs scrambled were traditional eggs. Super quick service and fresh hot food. The inside is fairly small, but it has a nice authentic nyc old school feel. You can use card as long as your check is over $10. There are definitely regulars that frequent here and it's a great vibe to be apart of. It's nothing fancy shmancy and it has a "stay awhile" feel. HUGE menu. So you'll find something you'll like.

Let's be real, people. Diners are diners and one of my fav reasons to go to diners is for the people, not the food. There's a huge menu. I LOVED THE WAITRESS, PEGGY. She's there every time I go there and I will likely not eat at the restaurant if she's not there, having her energy to serve my students of color after a field trip was AMAZING. It's challenging to find restaurants that will be accommodating to students of color, especially in a large group. There was about 10 of us. She was incredibly friendly and took all the additional quirks from our table of young eaters-- extra mayo, extra ketchup, hot sauce, someone ordering 2 separate meals, a budget, etc. Restaurants tend to treat big groups friendly, but I didn't have a problem here at all getting great service and that's so important to me. Customer service is key, and this place deserves 5 STARS for customer service. I've had breakfast here--their version of IHOP'S GRAND SLAM and it was comparable. They don't have fresh maple syrup, which is important to me, but other than that it's decent. Good eggs, yummy sausage-- standard quality. I've also eaten a veggie wrap here. Not my fave, I definitely wouldn't order it again-- I'd give it a 3 of 5. Came with cole slaw, also not my fave here, but the fries were great. The portions are large and it's affordable. In addition, it's a great people watching place for local New Yorker's. I love seeing who comes in and they definitely have their regulars, which is always a great film-like moment-- to see the folks who come weekly as a ritual order their "usual" and to watch the quick-paced nature of the restaurant move, it's charming. I come here often and it's more for the people, prices and poetics of diners. If you're not a diner fan and are looking for a yummy meal, head to Chelsea Market or any other fancy restaurant in the hood. With love, Renee up in BK

The Star on 18 is truly the best diner in Manhattan. It's exactly what every diner aspires to be but few achieve. The service is always friendly and attentive. Nothing fancy, just great basics. Betty, Eli, Penny and the rest of the staff give it a real neighborhood vibe - there's nothing better.

One of the best diners in New York, also one of the last vestages of authentic New York City. Plus great coffee and if you live close by you are lucky indeed. The chicken souvlaki platter is to die for.

It's exactly what you need exactly when you need it - diner menu galore - breakfast at 6:30 on a Thursday night it's the place to be!

This used to be a favorite of mine but based on two episodes of food poisoning this year, I'm done here. Right now I'm shaking from a night of severe nausea and diarrhea - a BLT with stale, nasty bacon and French fries that looked semi cooked / freezer burn? Or cooked a while ago and put back in fryer? Left a full plate. Dinner after 8pm just seems like a hack job. WASH YOUR LETTUCE, PEOPLE!!!! This star has fallen.

Awesome food at a great price, really friendly service. I split the Benedict and a wrap and had some coffee. Really loved everything.

One of the only rational restaurant offerings in Chelsea. Star on 18th is a classic diner that punches above its weight for burgers and breakfast sandwiches, and at regular people prices too. I like the staff - nice people. Wish them the best, it's a tough neighborhood for this kind of business.

The diner is located in Chelsea right near the High line. Close to the Chelsea Market so as an alternative to the Chelsea Market it's a good place to stop by. (During summer time the Diner can get extremely busy too) The establishment is small with limited seating, however they are clean and well maintained. Nothing special about the ambient. The staff are friendly, warm and welcoming. They seem to be pretty well staffed. Our orders were taken accordingly. They can accommodate your food to your liking and good. The food always tastes fresh and good. After you meal you can always go on the hug line and walk it off The prices are decent considering the area and establishments around here. No they don't have a parking lot and good luck finding street parking. But there is a garage nearby which also are quite pricey.

We are here loading in an Art Exhibit ( drivers) and saw this sign glowing across the street! Coffeeeeeee. Omg the coffee is sooo good here. Found out the owner mixes 3 different kinds of coffee to make her flavor.. interesting. I had the mushroom and spinach omlet with grilled onions in my potatoes (mmnnn). I forgot on east coast that there is no cheese in the omlets bummer so that was a little flat.. but the potatoes were fabulous. English muffins are the size of a bagel.. huge. Trying to get girls attention for more coffee.. had to wave my cup in the air! And the coffeeeeee ya baby. Ok now the boy had Gyro plate with Greek salad ( yes for breakfast). Wow now THAT looked good. So much Gyro meat slices and great taziki ( I had to poison test ). So I'm ready for more coffee.. ah Miss??!!.......It started to get busy at 8 am here. Just remember cash u less u spending g $15 or more. Ya my pet peave was no service after you got your food....third time for coffee had to wave the damn cup... not to happy. Still eating and no washing it down.. finally she came. Ahhhhh...

These old school diners are a dying breed in NYC. Maybe this is the kind of place when I think of NYC or Mel's diner where Alice will come over any minute giving you some sass. Okay, I'm old and most of you are Googling 'Mel's Diner'. It serves the typical Greek, all the time breakfast and everything in between. It is a small place. Service is brisk and food comes out quickly. It is a good place to sit and grab a meal any time of day.

I ordered two bacon egg and cheeses and two home fries. I got one bacon egg and cheese and 2 home fries. I called back and they said we only ordered one... even though we clearly ordered 2 over the phone. They didn't charge us for two sandwiches though so they said they would have to charge us again to send another one. No thanks... you should have heard correctly the first time? Then, to make matters worse, there was an egg shell in my food. That's nice. I will not be ordering from them again.

It's a great place to eat classic American food , and the customer is pretty good. I highly recommend eating their eggs Benedict which is one favor American diner food ever. It's a great location in Chelsea where you will be close to many things including the High line.

My wife and I love gyros AND adorable diners so we're in heaven anytime we eat at Star On 18!!!!!!

If I could give this place a zero star I would I didn't know what I wanted to order & the server was so rude and rushed us and when our fries came out the cheese wasn't even melted. Horrible place do not recommend !

My favorite NYC diner hands down. Love the gyros, breakfast plates, and sandwiches. Amazing prices and service too.

I had breakfast there today (outside only, right now) and it was excellent. I had the eggs Mykonos and they were prepared perfectly; it was all very tasty. The waiter was attentive and friendly. They have a long, very interesting menu. Unfortunately, times are tough now for restaurants. Please support Star on 18 so it can remain the neighborhood and have some good food in the process.

4.0 Stars for the breakfast sandwich & bacon 2.8 Stars for everything else Pretty basic diner with decent food, but I prefer other diner locations nearby - The Diner, New Venus & The Dish, for example. The breakfast sandwich & bacon are outstanding which is the main reason I go there.

Good food on a budget, quick service. I had two eggs with bacon. One star lost: the server didn't ask how I wanted my eggs cooking and rushed off. They came over easy, they were ok but I prefer over medium. I was also given two slices of white toast, when I would have preferred brown. I didn't realise that home fries came with the bacon and eggs, it didn't say on the menu but it was a nice surprise. One star lost: the bathroom requires little update, it was clean but grotty. Good value for the location, I would definitely recommend, it's not fancy but it's filling.

First the cashier (owner) is rude !! The soup are nasty .... I saw the owner be rude to her employees!! You can tell their is tension with them . My main complaint is the way she talks to the workers !!!!

The waiters will rush you, and at first I thought it was just one waiter but after multiple visits, it seems to be most of them. My friend and I started off with milkshakes because we didn't know what we wanted, but five minutes after we got our milk shakes, our waiter came up to us, claiming that we should order then because they were going to "close the kitchen". Mind you, it is 3:30 pm on a weekday and as absurd as it sounded, my friend and I rushed with our orders. Burgers weren't very good, buns were from packages you could get at the market. After we finished our food, he rushed us out with placing the check on the table five minutes after the table was cleared. He then had the decency to stand there waiting as we counted the bills and paid for our meal. We were uncomfortable with that action.

Corona or no Corona, the food services must comply and show some efforts to have quality of hygiene when serving food. I was served with the same gloves that operated the cash register with, right in front of my eyes. Imagine how many people's hand have handled the coins and Bills? It is not the first time I have seen this! I know running a restaurant is not an easy task, but quality of safely giving out food should not be compromised. I wish I have an option to give no star !

I grew up on "18 street diner"... solid place. Burgers are solid--coleslaw is my favorite, breakfast is solid, gyros are solid. Mash potatoes are good, French fries are tasty, & the home fries are consistent. This is pretty much all I order here, and I think it's all I'll ever order. This isn't the type of place where you should go and explore the menu. Find yourself a couple go to meals, if you order something you don't like, don't order it again haha. If you order something you like, order it again and again. Great prices for Chelsea, even after they raised their prices. Fast delivery.

Lovely quesadilla. Generous portions and quick service. Very close to the water and the lovely overpass as well as some major art galleries in the area. Marc C: It's clearly not a hipster Mac-n-Cheese stand. Try to assess where you are and order the specials....

This place is down right awesome love the staff and the older woman with the black glasses I believe is the owner and she is awesome as well but there Thanksgiving turkey wrap is so good must try great little family owned diner they get 5 stars in my book I live in NJ and have 2 reasons to come to the city work empanadas mommas but I now have 3 reasons to come to the city work empanadas mommas and this jem of a diner love love love thanks so much

It's a diner. There are vegetarian options, like the fat grilled cheese and fries I got. The rice pudding that came with it? Delicious. The place is a little run-down, but as a fan of old-school diners I have a high tolerance for that. The waiter was so nice it was crazy.

This was perfect comfort food while wandering the High Line. Great Greek menu mixed with more traditional favorites. Very reasonable pricing and wait staff was friendly. $10 minimum for cards but that's not an issue. Thanks for a great lunch!

This is a diner. Think diner when you come here. For a diner. It is 5 star. Great ambiance great prices. Food was super diner food. A slice of Americana Also Greek owner. Which for me tells you that they care about their food. Fresh.

Pushy crew memorizing my orders and very hostile I do not recommend this to any of my friends and family water cups are Old cheap plastic and they rush you out

Waking by stopped in for a coffee. Ended up w cappuccino and sharing BLT my husband said it was a work of art. We really enjoyed the snack n coffee. It's a cute diner the food other people had looked good as well. Did not seem touristy at all big plus!!

Absolute terrible management, older lady screamed at me in front of a room full of customers for using the restroom after a kind gentleman waiter said I could. I even offered to buy something and he said it was absolutely okay. She proceeded to tell me "I dropped my wallet" to get my attention to say I could not use the restroom without permission. Take your business elsewhere.

Not impressed with the price for what the group of friends I was with had. We want in for a light snack and were fairly disappointed all our dishes. The Mac and cheese on of the group had was overly oily and lacked enough macaroni for the amount of cheese served up. The chips were dry and over cooked even the sweet potato lacked the flavour i have had at other places The wrap one of the group had was tasty but the salad dressing they said put them off enjoying the side dish The price was excessive. All round disappointed
