The Unbearable Weirdness of Starbucks’ New Holiday Cups | Eater

"In 2018 the company rolled out a new holiday merchandise line led by reusable cups — plastic and ceramic tumblers and mugs — that are printed, glazed, painted and even bedazzled with unconventional designs. These reusable pieces, highlighted as the season's standout items, deliberately differ from the familiar red disposable holiday paper cups that typically spark seasonal buzz; shoppers are still waiting for those disposable designs to appear in stores. An accompanying roundup noted that the new designs look unlike traditional Christmas motifs, offering 19 comparisons to illustrate how offbeat they are." - Eater Staff

California Law Bans Straws From Restaurants Unless Customers Request Them | Eater

"Announced a plan to phase out plastic straws by 2020, replacing them with plastic 'sippy cups' and compostable straws as part of a broader corporate response to criticism of single-use plastics and in the context of emerging local and state regulations restricting straw use." - Whitney Filloon

Starbucks Is the Best Place to Cry in Public | Eater

"An ubiquitous chain of coffee shops intentionally designed as a modern “third place,” it offers low-cost, uniform coffee and a neutral, comfortable atmosphere where strangers can sit for a while without obligation. Its consistent décor, softer lighting, and employee-as-partner culture encourage anonymity and make it a frequent refuge for people seeking a moment of privacy or catharsis — from a bridesmaid’s tearful reprieve over a Tall double soy iced mocha to someone openly sobbing over a giant Frappuccino in Times Square or quietly breaking down with a croissant before a hospital visit. The brand’s bourgeois touches and aspirational sameness let people of different incomes share the same beverage, yet its corporate philosophy has also been tested by incidents of discrimination that prompted widespread anti-bias training. While specialty cafes tout single-estate beans and cold-brew trends, this chain’s real cultural hold comes from accessibility, sameness, and a permissive, sit-and-stay ethos that makes it an accepted place to cry." - Alicia Kennedy

How Conservatives Troll Liberals With Straws, Starbucks, and Chick-Fil-A | Eater

"After the 2016 election, supporters of the president deliberately targeted a national coffee mega-chain perceived as liberal by buying drinks and telling baristas the order was for “Trump,” forcing staff to announce his name and antagonize the typical clientele; commentators noted that loudly disrupting the chain’s spaces may satisfy protesters but could be a self-defeating form of protest since it involves spending money at the very business they claim to oppose." - Chris Fuhrmeister

Starbucks Knows How Much You Long for Fall | Eater

"The coffee chain is running a playful fall-focused social campaign that invites customers to join a Facebook group called the Leaf Rakers Society — a hub for people who want to “help Autumn arrive earlier,” year-round scarf-wearers, and pumpkin-watchers. The effort follows criticism that Pumpkin Spice Lattes often arrive well before Labor Day, but the company leans on those early launches because fall is its busiest season and the PSL drop reliably produces a sales spike. By tapping into the widespread anticipation for autumn—the cooler weather, a sense of new beginnings, and the comfort of hot, sweet, caffeinated drinks—the campaign feels fresh while remaining closely tied to the brand’s core appeal after a period of experimental marketing." - Greg Morabito

I like the Starbucks. In general, you will get what you want and it does not vary depending on location. There are busy and fancy places, but overall they serve similar things. The only difference of this location is the lack of drive thru. There is a parking lot, so it was ok for us to stop and enjoy the order inside the restaurant. There are seating options outside as well. Kids got their cake pops, and I got chocolate croissant with dragon fruit lemonade.

Google
MASON! My order was 2 drinks- The one in my hand said 2 of 2! You told me it wasn't made yet, BUT I had 2 of 2 in my hand. Where was 1???? Then! You didn't like it after another 15 minutes of me waiting, when I asked you about it and challenged your answer. That NO it doesn't take this long, and if 1 of my drinks was made, why wasn't the other one on the very SAME ORDER!!! THEN YOU THREW MY DRINK AWAY RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! Who do you think you are? The owner? No, Mason, you're an employee. A terrible one at that. If you worked for me (yes I'm a local business owner), you wouldn't have a job after forcefully throwing my drink in the garbage and saying, "I'm not going to make a drink for someone in my face" - MASON, you don't know what in your face is. PULL THE CAMERAS- I never even raised my voice. Was I upset? Yes, was I stern? Absolutely! This complaint won't stop here; it's going to corporate.

Google
What can I say about my favorite commercial coffee shop? It’s consistent, I get work done via the WiFi, and as a consultant I can generate one additional referral just by sitting there with my laptop and a cup of espresso.

Google
Had a great experience at this Starbucks thanks to Mercedes! She was super sweet, friendly, and made my day with her kind attitude. It’s always refreshing to be greeted with a genuine smile and great service. Definitely appreciate her energy, she’s a gem!💘

Google
Easily one of the worst Starbucks. Just skip the ones on Dale Mabry completely and go elsewhere.

Google
Really good service in this Starbucks. Orders are always right and employees are very kind.

Google
The staff are great and coffee was good. I was looking for a place to work for an hour in between appointments. The big downside is this is a very cold day in Florida and I swear it’s colder in here than outside. I don’t know why the heat isn’t higher. I’m alternating my hands holding my coffee haha.

Pyuriel Hanner

Google
If you like your matcha latte sweet, I'd advise you not to go here, the matcha latte they serve here tastes like they used water instead of milk. However, the service is beyond their paygrade, as they will ask if you need anything multiple times throughout the process, and the lady at the register even gave out a few compliments to the customers. They seemed to be a little understaffed with only 2 employees at the time, but I'm hoping that is just temporary. Overall, the food here is what you'd expect from Starbucks but all the drinks lack taste.

Yelp
I have to give this store a five stars because in the 10minutes I waited for my coffee they had to put up with so much chaos! People just walking up talking whatever they thought was there's another customer coming in saying her mobile order wasn't there even though there's a sign at the other end for mobile orders but still was rude about it, there food oven wasn't working so orders got backed up and people were not happy with waiting an extra 5 minutes. The whole team was doing there absolute best getting these orders out. A shoutout to Will for keeping composure and handling customers and drinks and refilling containers and checking names on orders I mean honestly just great service!

Yelp
I was a daily patron until the recent closure, and of course it happens right when Starbucks relaunches their Summer Game! :( I hate that they're temporarily closed for renovations (the closure happened sometime late April I think)...but I can't wait to see it when it's remodeled! The parking lot sucks but baristas and staff have always been super efficient at making drinks and balancing mobile orders with counter orders. This location is truly a highly functioning store.

Yelp
Stopped here to try the new London Fog latte with almond milk. It was delicious and I will certainly be back for more of those. The wife had a iced essence and enjoyed it. This location is smaller with no drive through but they do have curbside pickup if you order ahead. There was a constant flow of people coming through but it never seemed to be crowded and there were a few people hanging out and working on their computers. Quaint and cozy. The staff were friendly and quick to get our drinks made and delivered. Thanks Starbucks Crew

Stephan F.

Yelp
Ordered a Tall coffee inside. very few people. Took 10 minutes. However during the wait, 6 vehicles went through the drive through. What? They are heavily focused on the drive through. So good luck. One tall Pike, black. Four people working. 10 minute.

Yelp
Thank you Starbucks for being so kind! I asked for water and what did I get water! I am homeless for the time being an Tessa and the staff here were really polite! You can count on Starbucks when you need help especially when you are flat broke & haven't shaved or showered in days! Thank you for the food & help when i needed it. 5 stars!

Yelp
I love our little neighborhood Starbucks in Carrollwood, and I'm there at my lunch break almost daily! The sweet employees always recognize me and are so friendly when they bring my mobile order. My drink is always made perfectly. I wish it had a tiny bit more seating like the Linebaugh location but either way- it's the best Starbs around!

Kailynn Y.

Yelp
I love when you order and watch everybody who ordered after you get their drinks first. Every single walk in and mobile order was prepared before mine. I ended up being the only remaining waiting customer in the store. It took them 10 minutes for a venti strawberry açaí lemonade. I will happily spend my money at a different location here on out.

Yelp
My visit on 12/18 at 9:25am was truly a fail in terms of customer service & satisfaction. Hannah successfully took our order but execution on the part of Alexandra was a fiasco. My wife's hot chocolate was not made to order and the breakfast sandwich along with my peppermint mocha... never came. Ordinarily I wouldn't be as disappointed as I am... but Alexandra's "don't care rude behavior" made my bad experience even worst. Of course the order was remade, but the way she just plopped the order on the counter was unprofessional and merited this review. I'm so sorry Alexandra was having a bad day but this is not my problem. She needs to be re-trained in customer service along with an attitude readjustment if the business wants to provide it's customers with a positive experience. Thank you.

Yelp
Came here as we didn't feel like driving down the road 10 more minutes to the drive thru location. This location does not have drive thru so you have to go inside to get your drink needs. Indoor / outdoor seating is not available at this time and masks are required to enter. The staff is super friendly and our drinks tasted so good! This location is relatively small so depending on the day/time, you may have to wait a bit before entering since limited capacity given COVID.

Yelp
Super friendly stuff. Always welcoming and smiling. On my birthday I enjoyed free drink and everyone wished me Happy Birthday. So cool!
google avatar

Lindsey E.

Yelp
Quick efficient and friendly staff. Especially Seth, wow! Thank you for your thoughtfulness. It's the little things that make a great difference. You made my day that much more enjoyable. Ps. Starbucks has always been my favorite coffee and tea stop.

Yelp
This is without a doubt the best local Starbucks in Lutz. The baristas are extremely friendly and thorough. They make sure to get your drink just the way you like it - which is nothing new for Starbucks, but each barista makes it a point to get to know you as a customer and as a member of the community. The management and the baristas are amazing at this location. They make it a point to get to know you and almost befriend you ( but not in a smarmy way). The work is quality in any of their drinks and it is always served in a friendly manner. In short they are the best.

Yelp
*No drive through, the closest Starbucks with one is a few miles south at 10002 N Dale Mabry Hwy. I frequent this Starbucks to sit and get work done. The staff is always friendly. It may take a bit to get a table inside on which to work, they only have six tables: 2 four-seater high tops, 2 four-seater regular height tables and 2 two-seater regular height tables (I'm here right now lol.). They have outdoor seating on two sides of the building and all of it is under an awning. I also put in a fair amount of orders here through the mobile app. Unfortunately they don't have a drive through and since this location is in a strip plaza parking may be a tad challenging if you're trying to just run in and grab a mobile order drink from the designated counter area for them. It's not that bad though. The bathrooms have been clean here every time I've used them. Well, the mens'. Can't speak for the womens' (would I tell you if I could?). Overall a solid 4/5 Starbucks. A drive through would probably make it 5/5 but short of a location change it ain't gonna happen.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
What a great group of baristas! While very busy, the staff took the time to greet each person who entered the store. They were on time, and upon leaving, the same polite manner was given with a thank you and enjoy the rest of your day. Love supporting businesses who are friendly and grateful to their customers. Thank you, Starbucks!
google avatar

Josh K.

Yelp
I know I may be stoned for saying this, especially on a review for Starbucks... but I don't like coffee. (Don't hurt me!) I actually go for the hot chocolate. I like the taste of it and I can get a muffin or scone on the side. Very good staff, but the comments about size in the other reviews are spot on. However, its not like they can bust down a wall and expand into the parking lot!
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
Fast service, my drinks tasted pretty good. Small location, few seats available inside.
google avatar

Yelp
Great Service and awesome Coffees!! Love to share our Christmas Spirit! Nothing better than Creme Brulée Frappuccino!!
google avatar

Sean B.

Yelp
Teenage girl barista chatting with teenage girl customers for three minutes about nothing in particular while I thought their coffees were being made. Then she took their orders. Reminded me of the "erhmagerd" meme. And I was jetlagged. Just did a redeye. And desperately in need of coffee. I was seconds away from throwing tables. FINALLY got to place my order and it was a standard interaction from that point forward. But seriously, talk to your friends in study hall, not when there's a line in a coffee shop on a REALLY slow morning.
google avatar

Wendy C.

Yelp
The employees here are super helpful and friendly. I sat down to eat a PB&J box today and really enjoyed my down time before heading to my next appointment!
google avatar

Samantha E.

Yelp
Not my favorite Starbucks. Small store but due to location in Carrollwood it's always crowded. There are a bunch of outdoor tables making this location ideal for a relaxing sip with a friend on a nice day. This location is in shopping center so there is no drive through. The take along food selection at this location is smaller than most. They used to have the quinoa lunches which I loved but no longer carry those.
google avatar

Jasen K.

Yelp
Slooooooooooow super slow 10 plus minutes everyday So I started to order on the mobile app And Come on almost 20 min from order time to pick up. And I only order Tea on ice Starbucks figure it out
google avatar

Dianna B.

Yelp
CHAI!!! I swear sometimes that's my battle cry. This day it was. After all, I was meeting a friend to pick up some clothing I'd left with her at the Ren Faire. We met up at this starbucks and the ordering process was quick, efficient and quite friendly. The prices were absolutely like they were everywhere else.. and of course, the quality was just fine. This location is easily accessable right off of Dale Mabry.
google avatar

Joe R.

Yelp
Starbucks are generally great, this one is no different. Consistent great service and good Chai Lattes! Their bacon gouda is the bomb also.
google avatar

Thai L.

Yelp
A very busy Starbucks joint. They seem to get new staff every couple of weeks. They need to do some hiring due to the slow service and amount of customers they receive. Place is usually always clean when I walk in. Need to start getting the blueberry oatmeal correct. I've left before with a bag with just plain oatmeal when I ordered the blueberry oatmeal. Also need to check on blueberry status/expiration date because I received half molded blueberries with my oatmeal.
google avatar

Andrea B.

Yelp
This Starbucks is nestled at the corner of a plaza. While they are not the largest nor do they have a drive-thru, I've always enjoyed this location. They use their corner space to great advantage and have a number of tables and chairs set up outside but well under the cover in case of sudden rainstorms. Nice place to chill out, read and sip! The service here has always been outstanding! There was an issue with my order on one occasion (they didn't ask and I didn't make sure to specify that I wanted a hot mocha not a frappe) and they fixed it promptly and with a smile. They even shooed me out the door with both drinks (which I suppose what were they going to DO with the other, but still).
google avatar

Chelsea B.

Yelp
Starbucks is my go-to place to work for one reason, and one reason only: free refills on tea and coffee (for members). I end up at the Carrolwood Starbucks because...location, location, location. But in a prime spot, you have to compromise on amenities. They are always crowded and never feel like they have enough seats or tables (except that one time their AC broke). The outdoor area iOS really just tables on the sidewalk and is nearly sitting in the parking lot. Plus, there is often a pretty long wait--with no drive thru. This is a spot to meet my caffeine needs, but it isn't the most relaxing of locations or the best place to meet people--for that, the new one on Linebaugh isn't really all that much further south.
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
I have to say, Starbucks as a whole, I thoroughly enjoy. And even after trying multiple coffee shops, I always go back. But I always find myself stuck stopping at this one on my way to visit family in Hernando County, and I hate it. They are always out of almost half their menu items by 10:30am and the staff are incredibly unfriendly. I cringe when I have to go in, and find myself usually annoyed when I leave. To the staff, if you hate your job or can't be nice, maybe the hospitality business isn't for you, and quit. To the manager, please figure out your quotas and stock, running out of something three weeks in a row is pretty bad. Sincerely, annoyed customer.
google avatar

DavidnTonya T.

Yelp
My wife and me have been going to this Starbucks for four years. The people that work there are kind, considerate, and fun. When I went through my cancer battle they sincerely wanted to know how I was doing. When my wife was in an accident they asked me how she was doing as I picked up her daily chai tea latte with no water and no foam! Lol! They are quick, accurate, and personable. If you are over in the Carrolwood area check them out. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Paul P.

Yelp
A colleague and I decided on this particular Starbucks to meet for morning coffee. Starbucks are generally pretty much the same, minus the amount of seating each one has. This particular Starbucks has a pretty good setup. When you walk in there are several easy chairs a few tables and then a couple of high top type tables towards the back. Unfortunately this place is pretty popular, and based on the clientele, it seems like that is primarily due to this location being very close to high school. We wanted to sit and chat and were lucky enough to find an open table. The staff seemed friendly enough, filled the orders with a smile, and the coffee we chose was made to order and tasty. I personally prefer local mom and pop type coffee shops. Unfortunately in Tampa there aren't enough of them around so Starbucks is a solid back up if you want to get a good cup of coffee, and have a place to sit and chat. This particular Starbucks is no exception.
google avatar

Diana S.

Yelp
This is my favorite Starbucks store in the entire area! I work in the same plaza and am here multiple times a week. The people who work here are extremely helpful and take the time to get to know you. They make conversation with you, suggestions on new drinks when asked and give their honest opinion. They want you to be fully satisfied with your order. I never have to feel bad about letting them know if something isn't made correctly. They apologize and just make it again for you. They are always smiling! I've ordered breakfast items here often. The red pepper egg bites and spinach feta wrap are my favs. There are many healthy items to choose from, however my Friday afternoon cheat snack is always a cake pop! It's extremely rare with how busy this store is that they are ever out of anything. The drinks I order here are the most consistent than any other Starbucks I visit. What I order is what I get and it tastes the same each time. It speaks for itself. There's a reason why seating is limited and parking is a challenge!

Kawena O.

Yelp
Best starbucks ever! I've been coming here nearly every day this summer. They craft the beverages perfectly every time. I've never had to wait long. Friendly, kind, and inviting baristas!
google avatar

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
Just like any other Sbux. No unique charm but my drink was up quickly.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
This Starbucks is close to home and the customer service is great! Ordering online or in person is quick and easy here! I've never had a problem and am a repeat customer. The surrounding plaza also has several shops and restaurants to explore! Great location!
google avatar

Ryan L.

Yelp
My local Starbucks. Great staff, very friendly. The store is a bit small if you plan to hang out and do some work / have a meeting, etc. But, they have made the best out of the space. It is also right next door to the best doughnuts in town (Nicola's), so grab a Starbucks and some Nicola's doughnuts and you are SET!
google avatar

E. H.

Yelp
This is MY Starbucks as in I always come to this one. And for that reason they know me and remember what I like and call me by name. It's always clean and the baristas are friendly and courteous. I wish I would remember to check in every time I come, cuz I'd probably be some type of Grand Puba of Yelp by now!
google avatar

Tyler F.

Yelp
I really enjoy going to this Starbucks. The folks here remember your name and are always friendly. Never have to wait too long. Keep it up y'all!
google avatar

Alyssa T.

Yelp
It's Starbucks, so I won't go into the menu. This Starbucks is great. Great customer service, they do their best to call you by name and thank you personally. There's multiple tables for those looking for a place to get work/studying done. There's no drive through but with mobile ordering, that doesn't bother me one bit. Love this quaint little location!
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
I've been coming to this Starbucks for quite some time, maybe a year if not a little more and it is the best one around! The staff is always friendly and full of conversation, most of the time I just have to walk in and they're already typing my order out without me having to say a word!
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
As Starbucks go, I give this one a 3 because Carrollwood really should have a much nicer Starbucks. No real complaints but just not large enough for this location. So it gets too distracting also. The staff has always been very good here.
google avatar

Alexis M.

Yelp
It's Starbucks - pretty standard stuff. This particular location is extremely compact; I personally wouldn't bring my laptop, notebooks, etc. to work on here. There are only about 6-8 tables inside and they are all very small. There are about 4-5 tables outside that are larger but let's be real, who really wants to be sitting outside for long periods of time in Florida? Lol. The other downside (I may be spoiled for saying this, but bear with me) is that there is no drive-thru. I was surprised it wasn't more crowded than it was. The workers, although there were only 3, were EXTREMELY fast!! I am generally not impressed with the speed of Starbucks workers but these guys were great.
google avatar

Tiffany J.

Yelp
Smaller store, I often have to come later to ensure I get a table. The staff is great and I've never had any issues with my drink. Very quiet and that makes up for it being small.
google avatar

Roberto T.

Yelp
Where should I begin? They get 3 stars because Drinks were ok. Service was lackluster and the sandwiches were not good at all. I should have gone to an independent coffee house.
google avatar

Shaima E.

Yelp
My friend and I met here for coffee. The cashier was extremely rude. She was cussing as she rung up my friend and snatched my card from me when I was paying. Needless to say, she is always rude. That can't be good for business. Lets also talk about the guy who took my drink order. It seemed to me like he was hard of hearing. I said "Skinny caramel latte" maybe 5 times and he still wrote it wrong on the cup and before I was even telling him additional things for my drink and he gave it to the barista as I was telling him that I wasn't finished. I went over to the barista and told him what I wanted and he was very nice and apologized because he saw what had happened. We couldn't see a manager on duty to tell this to, so I figured a review would do.
google avatar

Robert H.

Yelp
I love coffee. Hold all the flavors, sugary additives, whip creams and foo foo stuff. Just coffee. I love all roasts, all boldness, and most any type of beans. Starbucks coffee is ok. Their dark roast is a bit too burnt flavored (just not well done... or too well done i guess). Their medium roasts are decent. If you are a real coffee lover, I'm not sure starbucks is for you. If you like desert drinks, this is your place.
google avatar

Dave C.

Yelp
In judging my various Starbucks locations I'd rate this one good. It's not fantastic but definitely exactly what you would want for your coffee. It's fast, the barista's are very nice and the easy in/out parking is good in the morning. The only downside is that this location doesn't have drive- thru
google avatar

Skky L.

Yelp
It's a regular Starbucks with a little-less-than-normal friendliness. The place had a number of people there, but seating was certainly limited. No drive thru either. It's attached to a plaza.
google avatar

Lori V.

Yelp
All Starbucks are the same. Lots of money for really strong coffee. I get the caramel frap light with soy and no caffeine and sugar free caramel while shelling over $6. What's the point?! I would rather drink my shakeology and make it into my own at home frap!
google avatar

Bonita B.

Yelp
The people are always nice but I took away a star because they forget to stock up on cinnamon. They would go days without cinnamon. Note there's a grocery store within walking distance and a Sam's Warehouse less than 2 miles away on the same street.
google avatar

Lydia W.

Yelp
I love being able to ride my bike to this location and just chill outside with my beverage. The barista is always friendly and although they can be busy, I can always find a seat to relax and enjoy my drink.
