Starbucks Fires Barista After Police Receive Coffee Cup Labeled ‘Pig’ | Eater

"A barista at a Glenpool, Oklahoma coffee shop wrote the word “PIG” on cup labels used for an officer who had purchased coffee as a thank-you for emergency dispatchers on Thanksgiving; the officer noticed the labeling and the store manager offered to reprint the labels. The police chief, Johnny O’Mara, publicly called out the incident on Facebook and later appeared on Fox News asking for civility and for the employee’s firing to be reconsidered, after the company apologized and said the partner responsible had been terminated; the officer said the barista had apologized in person and claimed it was meant as a private joke with a coworker." - Jenny G. I typically prefer supporting the local coffee shops over the big chains but this Starbucks is centrally and conveniently located between me and a friend of mine, so my friend and I made plans to meet there yesterday around 9am. I walked up to the counter to place my order and was a little frazzled because I couldn't remember the name of the drink I've gotten there in the past. The gentleman behind the counter was so sweet and patient and once I placed my order, I reached to scan my credit card and he says, "Don't worry about it, I got it." I said, "Oh ok," and then handed him my card thinking he meant he would scan it for me. He then said again, "Don't about it it, I got it." And wouldn't take my card, and that's when it dawned on me he meant I didn't have to pay. I was absolutely dumbfounded by the kindness and I think I stood there in shock for a minute in total disbelief of my good fortune? I thanked him profusely and said that's never happened to me before. I thought I would cry, I was so moved! I wish I'd gotten his name so I could sing his praises. I'm not sure if this is something he did on his own or something sanctioned by Starbucks management but it's not often we experience genuine moments of kindness like that, especially in a big corporate chain! Lastly, I have to add, right after that happened, my friend who was already there waiting for me at a table, hands me a gift bag with a brand new Starbucks cup in it as a little surprise gift which was completely unexpected. I seriously felt like I was on hidden Starbucks camera or something, it was just one heartwarming moment after another in my local Starbucks. Hahah. ANYWAY, thank you, Starbucks for turning what I assumed would be just another forgettable chain coffee shop experience into a memorable morning I won't see forget. It really is the little things.

Google
The baristas here are awesome! But I have to give a shoutout to Steven! I have never met a barista so nice and patient. He gave me a great drink recommendation, the Caramel Ribbon Crunch. It was delectable! He happily made it for me with a smile on his face and put so much love into it. 100% recommend this location. I have never been to a Starbucks better than this one.

Google
I want to give a huge shoutout to Lexi, Amber & Cori! Those are the only ones I know by name, but the employees here are always so kind & go above and beyond - This is my mine and my Grandma’s go-to coffee spot! We’ve been going here for years and always feel welcome Also, the coffee & food are always amazing! 10/10 ☕️✅

Google
Honestly... I love coffee and drinks at starbucks in general- And this is by far one of the best local locations. But dang dudes. When you have people spending almost 8$ on a coffee... (20-30$ orders almost daily) the least you could do is actually give them the whole coffee. Not just a half full cup.

I ordered iced tea through the drive through, I wanted zero sugar and made that very clear but the girl helping me kept pausing as in longer than normal silence after I would ask a question so I never knew if she heard me or not but we made it through my order and I was confident I was getting tea without sugar. I also asked her if Starbucks still had the passion berry tea that I have had multiple times over the years . She corrected me and said you mean passion tango ? I had no clue what that was since I don’t keep up with every new combination of drinks at Starbucks…. I decided to forget that question. I immediately could tell there was sugar in my tea , so I went in and told her about it , I was not mad or upset or yelling so I seriously don’t think I deserved to be spoken to in such a condescending manner . The girl that helped me inside was the one that took my order through the drive through and if I wanted to we would have been in a full blown argument but I refrained . I would expect an employee to act this way if I had been rude or yelling but I was very nice about it . I was very surprised at the lack of customer service and kindness about something that shouldn’t have been an issue if she knew how to communicate better and not make a customer feel the way she made me feel. I will never go to this Starbucks location again .

Google
Enjoy the atmosphere here. Being early in the Christmas season it was busy. Which I like.

Google
Everyone is always so welcoming here and some of the baristas try to remember those who visit them often. Many of the baristas are so helpful with choosing a drink and being patient while you choose.

Google
I asked for lite caramel brulee and its not lite 😬 This is over flow if you ask me. Still love their customer service but they really need to read their orders correctly. I spend 60-$ and up here weekly I definitely deserve to obtain what i have asked for.

Yelp
Came to visit family from out of town and couldn't find any other local coffee shops (should have driven the extra 5 miles to another coffee shop), and well made the mistake of going for Starbucks. It's Starbucks, nothing special, service was okay, rushed as always, no personal touch, and the coffee was okay.

Yelp
Going to stop coming to this location. 75% of the time the drinks hot or cold taste horrible. just bought a Hot Carmel Macchiato & My husband who can drink anything was like that's disgusting. Literally stopping at a QT to get Creamer or something to make this drinkable. We were to far from the store to turn back and have them remake it.

Yelp
Ordered 11 hot chocolates and received the worst customer service because of it. They were rude and indifferent and seemed irritated with such a large order. And on top of that experience the hot chocolates tasted bad . We ended up taking 1 sip and tossing them

Yelp
there is absolutely no excuse for the hodgepodge schedule of open hours or availability of inside seating. Starbucks is too big of a corporation to not be able to fix this. Sunday morning recently I was sitting across the street from the Starbucks, between 930 and 11AM, approx 100 cars came and And left empty-handed because they weren't open until 11. There were people inside watching these cars come and go, but they did not serve them. I don't blame the Starbucks employees here, I blame the corporation.

Yelp
Another update as of 2/23/20: This happened yesterday too. I order salted cream cold foam cold brew and the last two days they don't put the foam at the top. It's literally only the Starbucks in Glenpool! So irritating. This was also a MOBILE order where the exact order is there on the computer for them to read each instruction. I do not know how they still get orders wrong.

Yelp
The most horrible first world problem ever and I almost feel guilty for even saying it, but I asked for light ice and my drink was filled from top to bottom with ice. It's like it was a spite thing. Respect is an all world problem and this is just disrespectful. However, giving the benefit of the doubt, MAYBE they misread it as "Extra"?? Either way something is wrong.

Yelp
Went by the drive through to order a drink. There is a sign that says "please speak loud and clear". My husband tried asking if we can redeem the Starbucks Summer Game prize for 50% off Frappuccino twice. Not sure if they can't hear him well, or they did not understand our question. We ended up walking in the store to get our drinks.

Vicky O.

Yelp
I ordered a Carmel macciato and got black coffee with whipped cream in it. I was looking forward to something to warm me up on a cold day. I paid $6 for trash coffee. I can go get trash for free.

Yelp
WOW. worst starbucks ever. waited longer than ever to even get to order. then the guy didn't have a clue what I was ordering which was a caramel frap with sugar free caramel syrup. he had to stop and ask someone for help 3 times. absolutely ridiculous. if the employee doesn't know the menu and obviously doesn't know what they're doing, don't put them at the drive thru. totally not surprised this place only has 1 star. they don't even deserve that much!

Amelia F.

Yelp
Customer service was so phenomenal! We had a crazy drink order and both the man who took our order and the woman working the window were so incredibly kind. My husband and I were all smiles. What a way to start a morning! Thank you so much for your kindness! Best Starbucks experience I've ever had

Yelp
It is NEVER open. Just assume it is out of business and save yourself the hassle of exiting. It is the most oddly managed business I've ever come across. They will shut down for days or weeks at a time. Then when they are "open" on the one odd day every other fortnight during a waxing moon that the magic 8 ball deems it worthy they change their hours. Like Charlie Brown I fell for Lucy's trick again this morning. I drove by and it was all lit up. A quick internet search claims they are open. I exit and pull up to discover they've changed their hours and won't be opening till 11:30. A FRIGGIN COFFEE SHOP. Opening at 11:30...... Well Lucy put away the football because Charlie Brown has made his last attempt. To those risk taking travelers that wish to temp their caffeine fates by exiting all i can say is Vaya Con Dios and Caveat Emptor.

Yelp
I went there this morning and the line was very long so I decided to park and walk in. I knew it would be a few minutes before I got my order. But I waited and waited. I noticed that the drive through line was moving pretty fast. I started watching the cars and noticed that several cars came and went that got in line after I placed my order. I finally got my order after a car that had shown up at least 10 minutes after I arrived. I was advised that the drive through gets priority. Fist come first served is not how they operate. My order was a standard menu item. Nothing special that took extra time.

Yelp
Omg longest wait and even after all that they got my order wrong! Starbucks is about good coffee fast! I was in the drive thru line for 10 minutes and there where only 3 cars!

Autumn T.

Yelp
Most of these reviews are from a year ago, which was right during the covid craziness, so I think that was to blame for the crazy hours. I go every morning and they're always very sweet and they never get my order wrong! There is often a long wait but that has been my experience at every Starbucks because it is such a busy company. I think this store has been doing a great job.

Yelp
Don't bother coming here. Their business hours are 11:30-7:30. You read that correctly. This coffee shop does open until almost noon. Thankfully there is another Starbucks down 75. I will never give this one my business again

Michelle C.

Yelp
I'm truly disappointed that Glenpool Starbucks was open for three weeks then is closed until 05/14/20. I get it that they frontline workers and need to be safe however did corporate approve them changing the daily hours of when they close? How unprofessional and inconvenient. I've started going to the newer location at 61st and Yale. Absolutely LOVE this location. I am give Glenpool 1 star and 61st & Yale 5 stars!!!

Amy H.

Yelp
This location is the worst Starbucks in the south Tulsa area. The drinks are meh, cups are rarely fully filled, and the staff is consistently unfriendly. It's a shame, too, because it's a convenient location and has such potential. My choice? Drive farther to Tulsa Hills or 91st/Yale for a better experience and drink. It's worth it.

Lauren B.

Yelp
Friendly staff & good drinks. That's about it. Drive thru takes 20-30 min every single time. If they could figure out how to move that line faster, I would come here every day. I just don't have an extra 30 minutes before work to wait in that line. It's really not the workers' fault. They just aren't trained correctly and are under staffed.

Kareem M.

Yelp
LONGEST WAIT, I've been sitting in the drive thru lane for over 20 mins and still 3 cars in front of me haven't moved

Alex C.

Yelp
The location of this Starbucks is very convenient however, it is not worth it. I have been coming to the Glenpool location for the past couple of months at different days and times, and, regardless, there is always a long wait to get your order!! My order is not complicated a Dragon drink and a croissant. There have been times that I waited for up to 20 minutes!

Laurin M.

Yelp
Best. Coffee. Ever. If you aren't too specific, it's rather cheap, the service is always great and it satisfies my need for caffeine.

Milo P.

Yelp
Workers are respectful and make drinks in a timely and professional manner. You'll get exactly what you order every time and the workers always serve you with a smile on their face and a pep in their step. :)

Leslie P.

Yelp
On the coffee was very good I really like the texture of it in the flavor of how they made my coffee the service was was ok it was all right and their food is really delicious and their bathrooms kind of smelled a little bit but it was OK

Mikayla N.

Yelp
i always go to this starbucks, all the time. and i've always had a positive experience. but today at probably 1:40, i ordered a venti double shot on ice and a iced green peach tea lemonade. when i got them, the coffee tasted more like a sweet frappe more than a strong coffee like it is supposed too/usually does. and the tea tasted very watered down. thank you.

Tara W.

Yelp
stop blaming all starbucks baristas that work here like the incident was their doing, i really don't think most of you have fully functioning brains. the baristas that work here are kind and do their best everyday to serve you your disgusting calorie loaded iced caramel macchiatos and skinny lattes, sit down and drink them.

Nikki W.

Yelp
The Starbucks in Glenpool is the absolute worse Starbucks I have ever been too. I was a regular customer when I lived in Broken Arrow at the 121st between elm and aspen. So much so, they knew me by name. They are simply the best Starbucks that I have ever been too. I gave the Starbucks in Glenpool a try and on one occasion I was drinking my Frappuccino and found red plastic pieces in it. Come to find out when I poured it down the sink, it had a milk ring in it. The little circle piece that goes around the seal when you open milk. Accident happen I suppose. In the month of December, they were doing happy hour on Thursdays from 2-7. I went on several occasions and got my my regular drink and my daughter a pink drink. Then all of a sudden the pink drink doesn't count as a specialty drink, so they wanted to charge me for both. I told them to keep them and I wouldn't be going back to that Starbucks ever! Also would like to add that same day I went to the one over in Tulsa hills and received my buy one get one free, and yes the pink drink was included as a specialty drink.
