I typically prefer supporting the local coffee shops over the big chains but this Starbucks is centrally and conveniently located between me and a friend of mine, so my friend and I made plans to meet there yesterday around 9am. I walked up to the counter to place my order and was a little frazzled because I couldn't remember the name of the drink I've gotten there in the past. The gentleman behind the counter was so sweet and patient and once I placed my order, I reached to scan my credit card and he says, "Don't worry about it, I got it." I said, "Oh ok," and then handed him my card thinking he meant he would scan it for me. He then said again, "Don't about it it, I got it." And wouldn't take my card, and that's when it dawned on me he meant I didn't have to pay. I was absolutely dumbfounded by the kindness and I think I stood there in shock for a minute in total disbelief of my good fortune? I thanked him profusely and said that's never happened to me before. I thought I would cry, I was so moved! I wish I'd gotten his name so I could sing his praises. I'm not sure if this is something he did on his own or something sanctioned by Starbucks management but it's not often we experience genuine moments of kindness like that, especially in a big corporate chain!
Lastly, I have to add, right after that happened, my friend who was already there waiting for me at a table, hands me a gift bag with a brand new Starbucks cup in it as a little surprise gift which was completely unexpected. I seriously felt like I was on hidden Starbucks camera or something, it was just one heartwarming moment after another in my local Starbucks. Hahah. ANYWAY, thank you, Starbucks for turning what I assumed would be just another forgettable chain coffee shop experience into a memorable morning I won't see forget. It really is the little things.
