The Pistachio Flavor Trend Is Already My Favorite Food Fad of 2023 | Eater

"A mainstream coffee chain that introduced a dedicated pistachio drinks lineup in 2019, featuring a pistachio cold brew topped with pistachio-flavored cold foam and a pistachio latte available hot or iced; these offerings quickly became highly visible on social media and helped cement pistachio as a popular, approachable café flavor." - Amy McCarthy

Starbucks Workers Strike on Red Cup Day | Eater

"For the past 25 years a holiday tradition of limited-edition drinks and reusable red cups—known as Red Cup Day—has become a hugely profitable, highly trafficked event that draws long lines and collectible-focused customers. This year, more than 100 stores and thousands of workers organized by SB Workers United staged strikes and pickets on Red Cup Day, handing out union-themed red cups and urging customers to join picket lines or donate to a solidarity fund to pressure corporate over alleged union-busting and refusal to bargain in good faith. Workers cite concrete grievances—firings for pro-union expression, closures of stores undergoing organizing, denied benefits at unionizing locations, chronic understaffing and uncompensated overtime during holiday rushes—and say leadership’s rhetoric on social values conflicts with anti-union actions; Michelle Eisen described these developments as a betrayal of the company’s professed values. Corporate representatives deny unlawful discipline, say they have sought bargaining, and have filed unfair labor practice charges against the union, while workers and the NLRB have filed numerous complaints against corporate (workers report dozens of NLRB filings). Negotiations have recently broken down amid disputes over virtual participation and recording of sessions. High-profile politicians and customers have rallied behind the strikers, and organizers emphasize that targeting Red Cup Day hits one of the chain’s most lucrative moments to demand better staffing, pay, and a genuine voice on the job." - Jaya Saxena

Secret Menus and TikTok Order Hacks are Out of Control | Eater

"This coffee chain has become a focal point of "hack" culture: elaborate, user-created drink recipes spread on TikTok and Instagram that customers order via the app to avoid face-to-face awkwardness. Baristas report that these customizations now make up a large share of orders, are increasingly complex (for example, blended lattes with strawberry cold foam), and frequently disrupt service during rushes because workers must learn, craft, and sometimes remake unfamiliar recipes on the fly. Creators of these drinks often urge tipping and patience, but employees say the real solution requires better staffing, higher pay, and stronger labor protections rather than expecting frontline workers to absorb the extra labor for free." - Jaya Saxena

Why Are Fall Flavors Limited to Pumpkin Spice and Apple Cider? | Eater

"A ubiquitous coffee chain that has come to define the seasonal pumpkin-spice craze, offering staples like the pumpkin spice latte (PSL) and an apple macchiato; its fall lineup often becomes a familiar, early-arriving 'basics' selection in drive-thrus (the PSL now typically debuts around August 30). While these releases satisfy many who crave nostalgic, warming spices after summer, some customers criticize the brand for leaning heavily on the same nutmeg-and-clove profile instead of exploring other autumnal flavors such as cranberry, pear, fig, persimmon, quince, or winter citrus." - Amy McCarthy

Can I Eat It? And Other Questions We Have About Food in the Metaverse | Eater

"The coffee company launched an NFT marketplace as part of its metaverse-related initiatives; this rollout coincided with new perks that were limited to non-unionized employees, a move that critics characterized as potentially anti-labor." - Jaya Saxena

This is super cool Starbucks with a Bavarian theme. The whole shopping center models the style. The parking is ample and free. The building is free standing and has a drive through. There is a large outdoor seating area. Interior is spotless and has lovely decor. The service was fast and the order on point.

One of the better Starbucks in the area! The interior is nicely decorated and kept clean. Our drinks were made without issue. Jack’s very friendly and on top of things, as are all of the other staff I’ve interacted with.

Came here this evening for the first time and it will definitely be the last. There were three staff working, but the service was completely disorganized. Only the guy working drive-thru acknowledged us. After the customers ahead of us ordered, the other cashier just walked away to stock inventory and left us standing there confused. It took several minutes before the drive-thru guy finally noticed us and took our order. He was polite, but didn’t even bother asking for a name. We asked to have our pastry warmed up, but everything after that went downhill. The woman making drinks never called out names or drinks, she just kept dropping them on the counter without saying a word. After waiting around, I realized my drink and pastry had just been sitting there. No one said anything, no acknowledgment at all. To make it worse, the pastry was warm on the outside but ice cold in the middle. Totally unacceptable. The entire experience felt careless and unprofessional. Starbucks really needs to work on training this location’s staff and on basic customer service.

One of the best if not the best Starbucks coffee in Virginia. They get your food right, when it says on the app the food is ready for pickup, it’s actually ready for pickup. They are nice and welcoming. Really nice and clean coffee shop. I love it here! The employees and management are doing a fantastic work. Five stars!!!

I placed an order through Uber Eats and went in to pick it up. I was met with a firm tone from a staff member asking for confirmation, which I provided without issue. The interaction was clearly tense. After leaving, I realized the order was incorrect and returned to let them know politely. That’s when I observed several employees directing obvious looks of disgust and disdain toward me, which felt unnecessary and out of place. One employee stood out by apologizing and remaking the order without issue, which I appreciated. However, this doesn’t excuse the behavior of the rest of the staff, nor the selective way in which customers are treated. As I was waiting for the order to be remade, I noticed another customer enter the store, and casually pick up their order without question or scrutiny, making the treatment I received feel targeted and segregating.

Visited this store 4 times in 2 weeks. Quick service and the staffs were friendly. The store always provide free taste of their refresher beverages. The only disappointment is that their shared bathrooms stinks. Once you open the restroom door there’s a strong smell of urine, so disgusting. I just walked out and went to Giant to use bathroom.
