Starbucks Plans Italian Expansion, Opening Two More Stores in Milan | Eater

"Opened last week in Corso Garibaldi as one of two new Milanese cafes following the company’s Milan debut, this cafe is part of a deliberate expansion into a country whose coffee lovers initially reacted with resistance. Management frames the rollout as a medium-term, five-year program carried out with prudence and humility, aiming to combine a well-known international brand with an offering tailored to Italian habits and tastes, and the operator expects to open roughly 15 more Italian cafes per year if the approach succeeds." - Chris Fuhrmeister

The reviews were horrible so it had me worried before I got here. People always say why do you go to a Starbucks in Italy but I go to Starbucks because I am comfortable with this franchise. A place where I can get something I am used to and an environment where they do not mind how long you are staying. The place has indoor and outdoor seating area which means it’s super spacious. The views from the Starbucks is also really nice as it has the view of the Porta Garibaldi. The bathroom wasn’t dirty as the other reviews mentioned. The staff were friendly. The receipt has the WiFi code that you can use for two hours.

Starbucks is, as expected, very standardized, with the same format and drinks you would find anywhere else in the world. Personally, I see it as a good option when you want something different from the classic Italian bar experience, with more variety in drinks and a more international vibe. However, prices are definitely on the higher side, especially when compared to what traditional Italian cafés can offer in terms of quality and cost. It’s fine once in a while, but not the best value if you’re used to the Italian coffee culture.

Ordered drinks and food, my husband's drink was almost overflowing, and mine was less than full, when we ordered the same drink in our reusable cups. I got HALF the drink we paid for. Seriously? It looked more full on receipt because of the foam, but by the time we got back to our hotel room, the foam was gone and the truth was evident. Not the same as a Seattle SB.

Is Starbucks currently training its employees to practice racial discrimination? Not all staff members at this store behave this way, but a few clearly show discriminatory attitudes. This is not based on just one or two visits — it has happened repeatedly. The female staff member wearing glasses was very dismissive from the moment she took my order and even threw my receipt at me. At first, I thought she might simply be having a bad day, but when I saw her warmly greeting the next customer with a cheerful “Buongiorno,” I felt deeply uncomfortable. In addition, I ordered a basic menu item, yet the customers behind me received their drinks first. A male staff member noticed that my drink hadn’t been served but continued doing his own things for quite a while before finally preparing it. I ask the store manager to respond to this comment and clearly explain what actions will be taken. If I do not receive a reply within the next few days, I will file a detailed official complaint with Starbucks headquarters.

Your blonde hair girl worker on 17th september 17.20 shift cursed me on the face. I won’t buy anything from this starbucks again. I had to repeat the order 3 times since she doesn’t get it. Then she gave the order to her co-worker wrong and I told her to correct it. I didn’t expect her to curse me in italian on the face just because she thought I don’t speak italian. ‘lei non capisce un ca**o’ directly been said into my face.

Huge Starbucks area. Some photos taken in late May, 2022.

The coffee quality is very poor. I had an iced latte and it tasted burnt. I couldn't even finish it. The only reason to come here is because it has a suitable environment for working, which is hard to find in Milan cafes. Inside is not too big. Its quite in weekdays but busy at weekends.

Yelp
One of the 7 Starbucks reserves in the world! They have amazing different flavors! It's busy but the staff is fast efficient and friendly! Highly suggest if you are a coffee fanatic!!

Yelp
It's a convenient place for remote working if you have a craving for a Starbucks coffee, but it's not my favorite SBUX location in Milan. It is in a central location of Corso Como, near Garibaldi, which means EVERYONE will be here. Which includes college kids, families, random tourists, and the like. I got a PSL and one of the refrigerated sandwiches, my only option for food that was savory since everything else had some kind of meat in it. My PSL was not that sweet (the Sbux near San Babila station is the only one that has done it well so far...) and my sandwich was not good at all...some of the bread was dried out, which did not make for a meal I was excited about. Eventually when crowds get their drinks and leave, there still seems to be ample seating for people who want to stay and work. They have a nice patio-ish area with tall windows in the back, where you can see people walking outside while you work.

Yelp
Nice Starbucks location outside of Milano centrale. This was my first time at an international Starbucks and it was fun to see the different food items that they offered. I got the pumpkin cream cold brew and it tasted just as it does at home (Colorado).

Yelp
Starbucks is still pretty new to the Italian market, this location is on Corso Garibaldi and is in a good location. I ended up stopping here for a quick drink, and break to get out of the heat, the interior was nice, it looked modern and similar to what you'd expect from any Starbucks store in the EMEA area, but prices were a little high compared to the UK, it worked out around 10% more before the costs of extras (syrups, extra shots etc) that I'd normally get for free back home as a Gold Starbucks Rewards member. (Sadly international Starbucks cards are not welcomed here, I did not see advertising of a local scheme in Italy) I ordered a peach iced tea, which was fine, it wasn't exceptional though and didn't taste much better than what you could get out of a bottle. The staff were friendly enough and got beverages out quickly. The seating area was comfortable, with a range of seats both outside and inside. PRO TIP: If you're looking for Starbucks while in Milan, check out their Reserve Roastery, which is the only store of its' kind in Europe, the prices aren't much higher than here but the difference in experience between the two stores is night and day. 3*

Yelp
When I was last in Italy (Rome, 2011), there was no Starbucks anywhere in the country. Italians don't drink coffee the "Starbucks way." They don't take their coffee to go and they sure as heck don't walk with it. Well, that seems to have changed and I am sorry. This Starbucks in Milan has the usual Starbucks goodies right down to the paper and plastic to go cups, the whipped cream, the frappucinos and the chocolate sauce drizzle. It's quite sad. As well, the coffee is rather burned. Though the blonde roast isn't too bad. Mi dispiace (I'm sorry). [Review 10706 overall, 474 of 2019.]

Yelp
Good service. Terrible coffee, just as milky and flavorless as it is in the states. At least i got my cups.
