"This lovable neighborhood bar two blocks south of Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick has a distinguished list of beers in cans and on tap, cheap well drinks during happy hour, and a homey ambiance that keeps the regulars coming back. One more thing: It boasts the best approximation of Connecticut-style pizza in the borough of Brooklyn. The clam pie special is a masterpiece of cheesy bivalves, with a lemon perched in the middle, while excellent pepperoni and vegetarian pies are available by the slice. Hot grinders (subs), pastas, and small plates complete the menu, which may seem ambitious for a small neighborhood bar, but everything I’ve tried there in two visits has been great." - Robert Sietsema

I had paid and tipped in cash before switching to an open tab. They hold onto credit cards here for open tabs, and I forgot to close my tab before leaving. The next day my card was charged $500 worth at a random shoe retailer. It was a new card I hadn’t used anywhere so someone working here definitely stole it. I’m a trans student who works in the food industry, and I had a rare night buying $2 beers with friends :( I get stealing cards if you’re struggling; I don’t blame you. Maybe try it at places that aren’t queer dive bars?

Came here randomly on a Saturday night and it was the perfect chill spot to have a casual hang with friends. They play good music. Not too loud that you can't hear your conversations.

Really chill vibes. Awesome bar tender. I think her name was Ann and she makes a really good margarita. They have happy hour and have themed days every month with live music shows and comedy shows. They have the feel of a no judgement zone and everyone is welcome.

Recently went to Starr Bar for the first time with my partner. We were insanely enamored with the general atmosphere, the liberal and activist orientation, and the well-curated events happening. It was so beyond sad and disappointing when we received one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had from one of the bartenders. It was like atrocious and we thought it might just be us but he was awful to other customers as well upon observation which is such a shame. Normally I would not give a bar another chance after an experience that bad but loved everything else and thought that perhaps there was just one rotten egg in the carton and came back with a slew of friends. The next experience was much better. I didn't order the drinks so can't speak to the service but it was a different bartender. What I am most impressed with is the variety of events (they had friend speed dating which is unique and so cute/important), the queer friendliness of the place, and was bummed to miss their recent book launch of the memoir "Pretty." Will definitely be back again and hope I never run into that bartender again.
