Starr Bar

My husband had his party at Starr Bar this past Sunday, and I have to say, it was an amazing experience from start to finish. I was there early while he set up, and the staff was so helpful. Making sure the table layout was right, the lights were on point, and the bar was ready to go. Ren, the bartender that night, was incredible. She kept everything flowing smoothly and made sure everyone was taken care of with a smile. The food was SLAPPIN! The fries were fresh and the tacos were flavorful. And my drink was nice, sweet and strong 🤪 What really stood out to me was the overall atmosphere. Even the regulars who weren’t part of our event were warm, welcoming, and easy to talk to. I ended up having conversations with so many people throughout the night. It felt like one big community. At one point, a couple of people came in causing trouble and trying to steal drinks, and the staff handled it quickly, calmly, and professionally. They didn’t let it affect the energy in the room at all — which just shows how much they care about creating a safe, enjoyable environment. Star Bar is definitely the kind of neighborhood spot Brooklyn needs — friendly people, great energy, and staff that truly go above and beyond. Oh! And if you’re into content creation… they have amazing graffiti art and murals outside. I got great photos!

I love this place to come with friends and acquaintances, enjoy good music and good drink drinks, the ambience it’s really good calm and easy-going. This is the kind of place that you can find art, music, a little bit of theater, shows and more. Or don’t forget the snacks those are delicious. Thank you guys !!!!!!

Run an event here and the place is absolutely amazing. Great venue, great vibes, fantastic bartenders. Starr bar is one of my favorites and anyone who has a bad time here must have something wrong with them.

I was very disappointed by this place. My friends rented out the back room for an event, so you think they would have cared about us. But it was a nightmare. One bartender let a stranger sign my bill and take my credit card and took no responsibility for it. Another bartender, NICK, was extremely disrespectful and told us if we didn’t like his attitude to get over it and not come back. I hope the owner sees this and realizes keeping customers is more important than holding on to rude, unprofessional, and utterly incompetent staff.

Their “outdoor seating” is laughable. I wouldn’t list that as an option on Google, if I were the owner. I was worried the chair might collapse. It didn’t feel very sturdy. It reminded me of like Barbie furniture. Cheap and flimsy. Nothing to look at if you do choose to sit outside. There were only two people who had come and gone , playing pool, on a Thursday for happy hour , in the time that I was there. It is dark and looks beat up in the interior . Seems like it need a bit of TLC. If you’re looking for atmosphere or ambience, don’t come here . I’m not sure what’s up with all the good reviews - maybe it’s a better club at night ??? This place looks like it’s seen better days . Maybe time for a renovation. It did not pass the vibe check. My margarita was subpar at best. They said the kitchen wasn’t open at like 445 pm. I wouldn’t bother coming back if I were in Bushwick again.

They make I think tacos, was a little good lol the bartender was so nice, she was so welcoming. It was karaoke night and out wasn't many people there for a Monday of course haha but it's just your regular bar. Enough seats for sure ladies. Street window views for a cute bar date as well

Went to an event here for a friend this past Saturday and it was terrible. Where do I even begin. First thing one of the bartenders (don’t know his name) however a white tall gay male had the rudest F attitude and said “Gurl bye” to my friend after he assumed she didn’t have a tab open. Once it was established she did indeed have a tab open we find out they actually lost her card by giving it to another patron….which led us down a rabbit hole. I don’t know if Carey is the manager however he did his best to rectify the situation and I appreciate that. On the other hand the bartender who was giving attitude continued to make unnecessary comments and it was clear he liked to argue with females but that energy changed once myself and other male friends approached the situation. He did apologize after we told him he needs to stop going back and forth with a woman especially over a mistake his establishment made. Would I go back absolutely not. On the other hand the employee Carey who actually helped was the only professional employee here.

The best karaoke in the area by a wide shot. Our bartender Kein was a delight, and helped make my friend’s birthday session one to remember. Definitely coming back.

Went for an event ( film. Screening ) HEELS!!!( which was spectacular) Such a great vibe and cute environment Great drinks !!!!!and music !!! Had the Para todo bien and it just hit Great flavor with a kick !!! If your ever in the area check out this spot They host awesome events

Love this place!! Super unassuming neighborhood bar with amazing sounds. I came here on a Saturday night with a friend visiting out of town who is staying in the area. They were playing everything from Kaytranada to Afrobeats. Great drinks for a great price. My go-to is the Hibiscus Margarita which packs a bite for just $12. The security and bartenders are chill. There's pool table there if that's your thing. There's also a back room where the DJ plays that's super cool.

We had SUCH a great night at Starr Bar recently. We were celebrating a friend's bachelorette, and the bartenders were so friendly, super accommodating and overall great. The place wasn't super packed and if you're fully vaccinated, you weren't required to wear a mask (although they weren't checking for proof of vaccination, FYI). The drinks were moderately priced and they have a lot of great beer options. This is a great place to jam out to your favorite songs with your friends, haha!

Came for the food stayed for the vibes! Originally came because I was looking for vegan bbq- amazing!!! Go to order: rodeo fries, smokehouse salad & bbq Seitan sandwich. Inside they have a pool table and usually some sort of entertainment. A fun laid back bar to enjoy delicious vegan bbq

Mocktail is amazing. I felt so good that I was taken care of as a non drinker. Great vibe. Love social justice and community focus. Been here many times always a pleasure always positive

Really cute, local bar that has all the vibes. Comedy night was dope and the djs never disappoint. My boyfriend and I are here almost every week! The staff and bartenders are all great people and we love the energy they bring to the block

A large, open space with all the wooden elements of a cozy European pub await you at this remarkable bar right off the Jefferson stop (apparently they call it Jeff-Town but no local has yet to confirm this claim). In addition to a spacious bar there's a larger booth sectioned off with high dividers, which would be a cozy intimate spot for a good group of friends among the otherwise spacious areas (too large for a date though). The place is connected with social justice organizations. Besides the fact that it's a great cause, the connection has seemed to attracted really genuine bartenders. It's the type of community that's hard to find, especially in New York. Large open windows at the front. To the back, a smaller curtained underpass to even more seating. That area doubles for dancing an larger events, which are pretty frequent. Oh did I mention great happy hour prices? Whether your the shameless Bushwick​ hipster who goes for a beer and a shot or overly sophisticated ordering Old Fashions, you'll find all options discounted!

Cute place. Smalll plates. Good crispy fries. Nice ambiance. Good location lot of stuff around here to see and do. Staff is nice. Delivered ice cold cauliflower and comped it.

A lovely drinking spot in Bushwick for social justice/progressive/left folks. This is a sweet place obscured from street view because it's on the second floor. It's affiliated with nearby Mayday Space and is a venue for the social justice community to watch films, hear music, organize, and have a drink. There's some great, political art on the walls. My earthy red wine was served in a small goblet. My girlfriend had an old fashioned that was very tasty. We came to see a film, and the back room was filled with folding chairs for the viewing. Later, there was a live music benefit, and it was a bit hard to hear conversations. The crowd is friendly and diverse. The bartenders could be more attentive. They have a small food menu, with staples like hummus and tamales. Clean, unisex bathrooms, with more in the back. Accessibility: up a flight of stairs, but apparently* there is an elevator on the side of the building. *edited to add

I only cam here on a Saturday early evening to had a few drinks. They had a great happy hour deal of a beer & a shot for $5 so we took advantage of that. The place has a nice size and a chill vibe. They do have a good menu but I didn't order any food. I had a pleasurable experience but will definitely re-visit for a more full day of drinking and get food as well.

It doesn't get any better than Starr Bar. Kind and wonderful, social justice minded folks coupled with a beautiful space for all occasions. Drop in for a $5 happy hour draft and stay for the beautiful community.

I am in awe of the professionalism of its employees. Not only the insulted me but they insulted my girlfriend. The general manager and bartender were racist toward me. Called me a "white latino" then degraded my girlfriend whom is white with degoragorty epitaphs. I will never come here. It was disgusting how they approached us and vilified themselves in their actions. Beware this place. Never have ever been treated with a cruelty such as this. Bad service is one thing but being engaged by a drunk manager who took shots with the bartender as they degraded us is something I have never engaged in my life

Came here for drinks and a mid day snack. Charlie was our bartender. AMAZING!!! Made us great drinks and was an absolute joy to talk to. Vibes on point

What a great little spot. Just randomly picked this spot to hang with a few friends and I was not disappointed! The bartender/waitress was bubbly, funny and very accommodating. You really can't beat the Happy Hour 5-7. $5 drafts, well drinks, narrangasset and shot $7 margaritas. The food though....OMG!!! Their cauliflower (Cauli Pau) is seriously some of the best I've ever had. 1 person had the Starr Burger and another had the Cauliflower burger. No complaints there, but the "starr" of the night was definitely the appetizers. We tried them all (cauliflower, potato croquettes and panipuri puffs) and they were amazing. Great music, cool vibes. This bar is a must visit if you're in the area. Restrooms: 1 in the bar area. 2 in the performance space area. Clean and good sized.

Been coming to starr bar for a minute now and even though I don't review places too much I just wanted to say I genuinely love this place. The events and the drinks are awesome and the bartenders are even better. It's always good to see Charles and TK and Jailyn. They always take care of me and I always feel loved. Hands down the best bar in this hood.

Great place. This was the highlight place for me when I visited New York City. The staff was nice and friendly. There were lots of poc and it was just comfortable for me. I'm definitely coming back again with a few of my friends. I took the subway for an hour to get here and it was definitely worth it. If I move here, this will be a regular place for me. I'd recommend this place for any queer poc whos looking for a nice bar to sit down and drink.

Came in a bit ago to kill time before meeting up with a friend for a food festival. Didn't even realize I was in the completely wrong neighborhood until she was 90 percent of the way there and I was chilling with my book and beer in Bushwick. But I thankfully only had to backtrack 3 train stops. But didn't take away from having a pleasant time here! They have a decent happy hour of $5 drafts/wells, $5 Narragansett and a shot, $7 Margs/Old Fashioneds, $1 off wines until 7pm every day. Decent selection of beers on draft and friendly bartender. I went with a Left handed milk stout and took in my surroundings. They serve some food (which I didn't try because of food festival later) but it seems like kind of a wide variety with quesadillas, rice/beans, croquettes, moussaka . . . intermeshed with traditional bar food - burgers, french fries, etc. They also do shows here. They had a stage and sound system. Someone was there setting up for a variety show later that night. Very chill.

just, terrible. The way we were in treated tonight is despicable. How they swindle queer and black/poc into supporting them is beyond me. Terrible drinks, awful service, rude, abrasive nasty behavior. Kelly and Katie the bartenders were obviously drunk and couldn't help but show how they really felt towards actual locals. Absolutely horrendous offensive behavior. But not a surprise!

The bar has great energy. Live entertainment/DJ most nights. Customer service was amazing! Nice Happy Hour. Hot bartenders (Jai, Charlie, Truman, TK)!! Food from Monk's (order inside bar) was good too. Negative reviews sound like they come from unhappy drunks.

My favorite bar in Bushwick and they recently invented all these new cocktails that are to die for. My fav is the ho-mojito

Went to this place tonight for open mic night. Their open mic features local talent from all musical backgrounds. I truly loved the crowd and the laid back energy in the room. The open mic is located in the back of the bar in a theater like room. They have drinks and food you can order. Parking in the area wasn't bad either. I will definitely be coming back to start bar!

Bar was empty at 6:30, yet it took the bartender all his might to offer me service. Far too dark, music way too loud. Happy hour margarita is served in a half-full whiskey glass. Hands down the worst tasting margarita I've ever had, ever. Didn't order anything else. Friend joined me and ordered the margarita, looked at me and asked "wtf?" Left. Not going back.

Really cool vibe. Did a WOC comedy show here and it was a great crowd, and the ambience is awesome. Didn't eat or drink but everything looked good and people looked happy with whatever they got!

I just stumbled in this bar trying to avoid a flash flood storm and couldn't have ended up in a better spot!!! The space is so cute and the service was fantastic!! The bartender Charlie was so helpful and kind, helped recommend great beers and made sure we had a great experience! Will be back for sure!!!!

I came in specifically to see Charlie the general manager. Been here a few times when he's working and he always makes my experience wonderful. Great vibes and amazing service.

Solid, bar with a cozy atmosphere and a nice stag in the back for live music. The bar's walls and posters indicate they have a strong appreciation towards social groups and causes. Its hard to beat $6 for a Gansett and a shot (even less during happy hour 5-7 daily) so I was pretty much satisfied just drinking those for the few hours I was there on a Sunday evening. Otherwise the tap list was a solid B, with things like a Victory Gose in the rotation that are good but not great. Not much else to say, but I'd definitely come back for another show or just to knock a few back.

Cool spot with good food. I went on the night that they are testing new items on the menu. I had the hamburger which was delicious and the mofongo with chicken. The beer option are ok. Wish they had more local beers from NYC and maybe California. Overall good night with good food.

Love this place. Everytime I visit NYC I stop here. All of the bar tenders are funny and make great drinks.

I had a couple drinks there once as we were discussing my group having something there, which we did eventually. So the events are the bast reason to go there. Good vibe, and good reputation. Pleasant place. I have not had any of their food.

Look. You get to have a nice drink in a beautiful space w beautiful people. During the weekend you can catch some good parties. And your Money goes to helping a local Org working on social justice issues. It's liiiiiiiiit!

It's great that the bar is open. But it has the worst loudest music. I feel like I'm at a middle school disco. In a bad way... I've asked for it to be turned down, and people moved on... instead of screaming in The street at 4am... no one cares. New bar doesn't care about the old hood.

The best bar in Brooklyn for sure. The vibes are outstanding and the workers are phenomenal

Best place in town. Worker owned. No greedy wannabe nice guy in charge. Good food and very creative performances on stage. This city needs more of this instead of this bullshit bars straight out of Disneyland.

Really good food, thoughtful about ingredients, good drink prices, & all my favorite organizations hold events here! Love coming to Starr Bar on weeknights.

One of the best bars to open up in quite some time. Great drinks, attracts interesting and artistic people, always a cool event or a great band playing. And bonus; your drinking habit can actually support your community. Whats not to love here?

I like the decor and music but the dance floor is pretty sad and they collect $10 per person to get to the sad dance floor.

First time so far it's not crowed. But I heard It Going to be nice I like you should come and visit nice bar. Drinks awesome.

Went here on a Monday evening around 9pm after reading some positive reviews. This was a first date and Starr Bar did not let me down. The ambience was perfect; the bar dimly lit while some neo-soul played in the background. Not to mention only paying $9 for a shirley temple & pineapple w/vodka

I have so much love for this bar!! It can be hard to find a bar in Bushwick that it is totally down to earth, welcoming, and inclusive - but Starr bar is all of those things. The crowd is diverse and it's inspiring to see people come together to conspire and support each other. The bartenders are friendly and attentive, even on the busiest nights. The food is delicious, fresh, and affordable. I'm a total burger snob and would normally be hesitant to order one at a bar but yoooooo their burger is amazing and hits the spot every time.

I just moved down the street and pass this place all the time - after my first visit I'm kicking myself for not going sooner! The bartender, Katie, was so incredibly sweet and helpful with recommendations and the food and happy hour (every day til 7!?!?) was fantastic. My new fav spot. So great!

If I could I'd give this place zero stars. It was awful from the music to the way the staff treated their customers. Incredibly unprofessional, I was actually in awe and couldn't believe what my friends and I experienced. Bartenders were getting extremely violent and aggressive probably due to all of the drinking they were doing rather than actually working, or the fact that you couldn't get your actual order taken because half the time the staff was outside flirting with customers. There were two female bartenders, one darker and one lighter skinned the lighter skinned bartender with short curly hair was barely behind the bar during her shift and leaving the other two to struggle, she was taking multiple shots with guys and quite frankly didn't even seem like she was working at all. Really bad look for business, I'm actually embarrassed for even coming here with all of my friends. Definitely a lame spot with even more lame and unprofessional people working. If you're looking for a chill place to drink and dance and have a good time with friends I definitely don't recommend this place.

DO NOT GO HERE. Horrible music and horrible customer service. 1. There is no DJ. It's just a couple random people picking random songs off a library of music on their personal laptop without WiFi in the building for actual DJ-ing. 2. The bartenders are extremely rude and unprofessional. One of the bartenders, a girl with short hair and light skin, crawled up on the bar top aggressively when I asked for a drink acting like me wanting to order a drink was an invitation to fight.. She drank repeatedly throughout the night with different customers and wasn't behind the bar as much as she was out hanging out with guys and letting them feed her alcoholic drinks and became drunk early in the night. She was so rude to all of us and our friends and ultimately made us leave and never want to come back. She cursed us out for no reason. WORST customer service ever. We left once we realized this was THE WORST PLACE to spend our Saturday night.

Wonderful community bar with a great atmosphere, a regular stream of fun events, and a strong connection to local activists. This is the bar to go to if you want to be engaged in the local activist community. Always so many interesting groups speaking or holding fundraisers here, and that leads to a great atmosphere in the bar on any night. Also, order the fries. Top notch

The Starr burger is really delicious!!! I loved the mustard aioli sauce they gave with it. Drinks are good and strong. The setup is a bit weird as the kitchen is in the back. So during events the staff have to walk through the crowd. Id be frustrated if I worked there but overall great service and venue for inclusive events.
