Best New Restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona, Spring 2025 | Eater Phoenix

"This restored 1960s-era Valentine Diner — a prefab model once sold by mail order after the Great Depression — now glows bright red in the middle of far East Mesa’s Eastmark development. It’s a striking sight amid rows of beige stucco, but what’s happening inside is even more compelling. Steadfast Farm owners Erich and Yvonne Schultz tapped former farmhand and James Beard nominee Derek Christensen to run the kitchen; the results are rooted — literally — in the land just steps away. Microgreens come from the farm out back, beef is sourced from Capitol Farms in Wickenburg, and the menu balances comfort with precision: a sublimely dialed-in pastrami double cheeseburger with griddled onions, homemade pickles, house-cured pastrami, and a Thousand-island-adjacent Steadfast sauce, plus salads anchored by whatever’s fresh that week. A neighboring Steadfast coffee shop and market rounds things out, selling produce and flowers grown on-site." - McConnell Quinn

Great place to chill, drink & eat! I had the steadfast burger, Ruben sandwich & a side salad. I can’t believe the salad had flavor aside from vinaigrette, I could taste an earthly flavor from the veggies grown here! Simply Amazing! My groceries don’t taste this good. The burger was meaty & flavorful but the Ruben was never ending flavor, highly recommend! The servers are ALL friendly, they aren’t forgetful & bring the food & drinks quick! Definitely coming back! You do park on the street & have to walk in, but bring sandals or sneakers because the picnic tables are in a dirt area.

This place has changed my life. I am a smash burger connoisseur and this is hands down the best smash burger in Arizona. We love placing our order online and the food is done super fast. *Eastmark residents can place their order poolside and have it brought to you!! Everyone that works here is really nice and they never mess up our order, (despite several special requests). Inside and outside are always kept clean and tidy, which is hard with the hot temps and flies in the Arizona weather. I have absolutely no complaints about Steadfast Diner, and even though I am totally addicted to the steadfast double burger and onion rings (don’t forget the extra steadfast sauce, it’s insanely addicting), I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu.

Google
We tried out this new diner and were impressed. Burgers were smashed and offered the right blend of crispness and flavour. Fries were hot and perfectly salted. Beer menu was extensive. Onion rings were a hit. You sit under canopies and there are lots of picnic tables. Heaters and misters are set up for when needed. Bathroom is in the nearby public building but there is only one available. So plan ahead. Seating inside is limited to about 6 stools at the counter.

Google
What an amazing little spot! The Steadfast Diner is truly farm to table. The farm next door provides quite a bit of the ingredients and you can really tell from the freshness and taste of the food. The cookies and cream milkshake was amazing. We also had the grilled chicken sandwich and Reuben. Both were extremely tasty. The onion rings tasted farm fresh. Definitely be back!

Google
A hidden gem in Eastmark! Came here for the first time and loved it! The location is great with a nice view of the park and gardens. Tons of space for littles to run around, too. All of the seating is outside, picnic bench style, but there is plenty. We tried the Steadfast Double and the Grilled Chicken sandwich. Both were delicious! You can really taste the freshness and the quality. Would recommend both! The kids meals are a good size as well - though pricier than some other places around. The menu includes a good selection of beer, a few draft options, and some cocktails as well. If you're able to, go inside the diner to order! The inside is very cool and gives that true authentic diner style vibe. It's awesome! Overall, we really enjoyed our meal and will absolutely be coming back to try more of the menu!

Google
Not worth the hype. I ordered the veggie burger and as you can see from my picture, it was all bun. The chickpea patty was way too thin and could barely taste it. The bread was old so it was a little hard. At the table we also had the chicken tenders and they were awful, the breading tasted weird. Prices are high too for the quality of food. I’m giving it 3 stars due to the cool ambience.

Google
1st time trying Steadfast. Great place to go when our AZ weather is great. Ordered double cheeseburgers, cheese curds, fries, onion rings, grilled chicken sandwich and the Farm Salads. Food was good, grilled chicken was a bit dry but burgers and sides were great! Salad was ok - unfortunately they did not include all the ingredients in it so it was a bit basic.

Sam

Google
Great food, the Diner is literally a small diner with limited space, photos are kinda deceiving, I can see this place full in the winter time due to the seating outside, first time going had to sit outside, had a burger very tasty, fries, onion rings and curds were really good...I had to wait for a refill on my tea for longer then I should have...in 108 weather, so don't go when it's really hot weather.

Yelp
Our party had the Steadfast Double burger, the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, fries, onion rings, cheese curds and a Coors Banquet beer and a Hey Mama cocktail. We finished it off with blueberry pie and vanilla ice cream. There is ample outdoor seating and misters. Our server showed up very quickly to take our orders. Even though you're sitting outdoors, the service is excellent. Next to the restaurant is a water splash area for kids. Today is was around 100°, so the water area really helped. I have no complaints for this nice restaurant. Perfect for young families with children to have a great meal.

Yelp
A small diner with mostly outdoor seating but some indoor seating as well. Service was pretty good and quick. Food wise, I tried the fried chicken sandwich, steadfast double burger, and the farmers daughter (all 3 sides). All the food was very very very salty. The chicken sandwich with the hot honey aioli had chicken that was too dry and not enough flavor (not incl. salt). The breading was ok but it started falling apart. The burger was also very salty especially with the bacon, American cheese, and salty patties. There needs to be some kind of balance with something on the refreshing side, but there just isn't any. The pickles are also salty and the steadfast sauce doesn't do a great job making it any less greasy and salty. The sides were varied in quality. The cheese curds were pretty awful. The cheese was all dried out, chewy, and required you to bite through them with some force. The fries were extremely salty and had a similar problem where it was so fried that it became chewy instead of crispy. The onion rings were the best of the bunch but still too salty. I tried the garlic aioli and the house ranch sauce but both did not do a great job in balancing any of the existing flavors, I probably preferred regular ranch over the house one. Overall, the food makes you feel like you're ingesting diabetes in food form. I would absolutely not recommend this place nor eat it again even if it was free. As a side note, the price is $15/sandwich not including drink or sides. Overall, too expensive, too salty, too greasy.

Yelp
Had the best takeout tonight using their online system...food was ready within 10 mins which was awesome. When I picked it up I was bummed I didn't actually end up eating at the restaurant because it was a beautiful night and nice and cool under their shade and misters. Plus they have awesome margaritas. The flowers on the tables were gorgeous too. Regardless, had the best homemade Veggie Burger, not a gross fake meat one. It may be one of two I've found in the East Valley that is actually fresh ingredients and made in house. My husband devoured his smash burger and my kids are totally obsessed with the grilled cheese and yummy dipping sauces they have. This place is one of our favorite restaurants in the East Valley for sure!!!

Yelp
Service here is excellent. Friendly staff and great food. The vibes are chill too. All the seating is open. Eaten here three times now. During both quiet and busy. As expected, slightly slower turnaround during the busy time but the staff checked in with us frequently and updated us on our food. Stoked to have this near by. Brown rice bowl is a banger. Farro bowl is a banger. Smash burgers are all banging. Ruben is a banger too.

Yelp
This business replaced another diner in the same location. Outdoor seating so be prepared for the weather. Lots of seating. They were pretty busy Saturday when we were there but we got seated immediately and our food came out quickly. I got the pastrami double and my wife got the chicken sandwich. Both sandwiches were cooked properly and tasty. The fries were just ok though. Same with the cheese curds. Service was outstanding. The menu is straightforward, salads and sandwiches most.

Yelp
This place has changed my life. I am a smash burger connoisseur and this is hands down the best smash burger in Arizona. It has been a staple in our house since it took over the Handlebar. Yelp
My son and I stopped in for dinner after a play at the park. We ordered an Arnold Palmer and the Farmer's Daughter. This was around 5pm on a Tuesday. Our waitress was very attentive. The meal came out after a little bit of a wait but the food was so fresh I didn't mind a bit. The outdoor seating is perfect for this time of year. They offer cocktails, mocktails and sodas. Plenty of children and doggos were dining too. Overall a great family dining experience.

Yelp
The food was good, no complaints there. But the service could've been better, our waiter wasn't very attentive and forgot our drinks. We ended up having to grab our own to-go boxes and waited quite a while just to wrap things up. Just felt a bit unorganized. Very cute diner.
google avatar

Yelp
Food and service were very good! Outdoor seating gives a picnic like setting and has misters with shade.

Yelp
Imagine if you had a diner in your backyard...that's exactly the vibe that Steadfast Diner puts off. You're adjacent to the farm and community pool with picnic tables outside. It totally feels like you've stepped out your back door and ordered a burger and fries.... probably because, for so many people, that's exactly what it is. Lucky folks. I dined here with a large group of colleagues recently and enjoyed the smash burger. I've solidly determined that the thinner patty is the way to my heart-not the thick, juicy and often undercooked chunk of meat that I find elsewhere. This one was cooked just right and the flavor was OMG wonderful. I wish I'd gotten pictures, but I jumped in before my camera had any idea what was going on.
google avatar

Tara W.

Yelp
Way too much sauce in the burger, which is something I never thought I'd say. But I'm a huge burger fan, and these burgers were gross. What's with the skinny patty that is way too large for the bun, and then it's drowning in sauce on top of it, so it's impossible to eat, falling apart, and a mess. Also, just doesn't taste good. This is the worst burger sauce. Not a fan.
google avatar

Jenna K.

Yelp
Cute diner style outdoor eating area that's great for the family! Somewhat higher pricing but everything is farm to table and the menu is diverse. Good portions (chicken on sandwich was a little small), sauces and drinks were great. We found a table on a Saturday evening and a waiter came right over. The only downside was after we had ordered everything the waiter came back and said it may be a 30-45 min wait, wish they would've told us that before we put our food order in. But we didn't have to wait that long luckily. Lots of people came by to check on our table and make sure we had everything we needed. Definitely will come back!
google avatar

Trisha M.

Yelp
Seating outside, seems pretty shaded, but could be warm on an Arizona summer's day. Brianna was our server and seems to be very educated and informative about the restaurant. Food was pretty good and filling. Would recommend. We ate the Farmer's Daughter

Yelp
We just found our new, favorite local spot. Omg the food was amazing. My wife loved her grilled cheese and fries. She asked for aside of ranch, which was homemade and delicious! I had the Steadfast Burger, which was incredibly good and a side of onion rings which were just about the best I've ever had. Get them with the garlic aioli, you won't regret it. To top it off, the service was fantastic; very friendly, personable and attentive. Love this place so much. We'll be back often.

Tim W.

Yelp
Came in here because the photos looked great. $15 for a burger with no side? Get wrecked. That's pathetic and everyone involved in the pricing is just as pathetic. I didn't spend a dollar here and never will. Thinking $15 for some ground beef and mediocre buns is acceptable? I hope you step on a Lego every day of your life.

Yelp
Review on a Tuesday during Lunch (11:30am) Ambiance & Seating: 4/5 Primarily outdoor seating, so open to elements. Cooler weather when we visited in January. They have space heaters and some seating options in the sun. About 8 counter seats inside. In summer, they have overhead shade and likely will have swamp coolers and misting systems. Available seating and service/wait times were good (less than 15 min from order to being served) Food: 4.5/5 Excellent smashed burger - honestly everything you'd want in a diner style smash burger. Crispy edges, melty cheese, quality toppings. Fries were fresh, salted, and crispy. Grilled chicken sandwich pretty was great! Only recommendation was possibly more seasoning on the chicken itself... however I think the 'less is more' flavor is intentional, similar to Joes Farm grill. The ingredients are fresh and they want that to shine through. So, I get it. I mean like...the lettuce is clearly organic, freshly harvested and grown on site. You can taste the difference. If you've ever grown your own food, you can just tell. If you want more intense flavors, more salt/umami, ask for an extra side of the aioli. It's amazing. Sauces: 5/5 phenomenal. Ranch and aioli dressings were so good it's criminal :') Price: 4/5 Ok. It's not cheap. And it feels like a neighborhood restaurant that's themed as 'diner food' should be cheap, so that's why it's shocking at first. But if you think about the quality of ingredients (local, organic, clean ingredients), paying the staff fair wages in turn for kind, caring, thoughtful service, and supporting its sister coffee shop and farm, I think it's completely fair. I went to a sandwich place the other day and a 8" sub was $18. A burger or chicken sando here is $15. I'll take supporting our neighborhood restaurant over processed foods any day of the week. Grateful for this to be in our neighborhood. Thankful for clean ingredients I feel good about eating, serving to my kid, and recommending to family and friends. This isn't a "we don't have groceries and it's 6pm and we need a quick, easy, cheap meal for a family of 5" situation (although if it works for you, awesome!) This is a "let's go out for a special meal this week" or "I'm working from home and want to splurge on a quality meal for myself for lunch today", and definitely a "it's Saturday night friends!! Let's get a sitter and go grab drinks, a burger, shake, and have a great time!". Enjoy!!

Yelp
PSA: this is not your local greasy twenty-four hour diner. It's infinitely better! They have one of the best fried chicken sandwiches in town. That hot honey aioli is wild. The steadfast salad felt homemade in the best way. The quality of their produce really stood out. Service is fast casual but the staff definitely makes you feel at home. Has been open for less than a week but already is a top shelf culinary experience in the valley
google avatar

Yelp
Local farm fresh food, server was so friendly and helpful. He was telling us about the events the host and I would love to attend one. We go the farro bowl and ap sampler. Very fresh good food.
google avatar

Mike J.

Yelp
The food was fresh and delicious. The service was fast and the diner inside was so neat. The milk shake and veggie burger was excellent.
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
Really bummed about this. The pastrami burger wasn't bad, but not at all worth the price. Burger, fries, and shake was ..... $34.00! Far too expensive for a hamburger lunch. Won't be back.
google avatar

Nikki N.

Yelp
Great outdoor dining experience! Food was excellent. Great addition to the area. Will definitely go back. Pet friendly dining as it's all outside. Smash burger was crispy, cheesy and just the right amount of burger to bun and toppings ratio. Fresh fries were crispy and salted appropriately. Rueben sandwich was excellent as well. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Rob U.

Yelp
Food was good! I had their Steadfast double smash burger and the sauce was awesome. You also need to get their onion rings for sure! But our waitress Avery just made our dining experience wonderful. She was very attentive, friendly and quite bubbly!! We sat inside the bar area , which was very tight and small but it's better than outside where it was 104 degrees this afternoon ..... but they do have misters outside that helped. Oh and their affogato was a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a DOUBLE shot of espresso where most places only pour 1 shot! Bravo!!
google avatar

Jeff J.

Yelp
Stopped by to check this place out. I had the Steadfast double burger and it was fantastic. I'll definitely be getting it again. The burger doesn't come with any sides so you have to order them separate. The server seemed knowledgeable about the food and it's origins and he is the one that recommended the burger -- I'm glad he did. They do have a selection of beers on draft. Sitting outside this time of year can't be beat!
google avatar

Hugh K.

Yelp
4 health code violations! Oh my goodness that isn't good for your customers. Hope they can clean up their act before someone gets really sick.
google avatar

Amina A.

Yelp
We tried the rice bowl, Reuben, and chicken sandwich burger at Steadfast Diner. Everything was flavorful and well-prepared, and the portion sizes were okay--not too big, not too small. The Reuben had a nice balance of flavors, the chicken sandwich was crispy and satisfying, and the rice bowl was a solid choice. For appetizers, we ordered two of the Farmer's Daughter. The flavors were great, but we were hoping for more onion rings and cheese curds--most of the plate was fries, which was a bit disappointing. One downside is that there's no restroom inside, though a public one is nearby. Not a dealbreaker, but worth noting. Overall, a good spot with tasty food, though a few tweaks could make it even better!
google avatar

Scott E.

Yelp
Ordered the kids chicken tenders to give it a shot - for $10 - 2 nice pieces of perfectly crispy chicken and ample amount of perfectly golden crispy salty fries - the homemade ranch is perfect for chicken and fries - so now I will be back to try burgers and onion rings and maybe get their crispy chicken sanwhich to go !! Place was busy but staff was on top of it !! Check this place out it is a sure winner for your taste buds!!
google avatar

Yelp
Met a few friends today for lunch. We ordered a burger, Rueben and the cheese curd/onion ring mix. The service was very spotty. We had to repeatedly ask for things like water and napkins. The young man who served us must have been new. He seemed overwhelmed and a little confused. The food was super delicious though. The onion rings were small but beer batter style- my favorite. The Rueben had scant meat, but I like them with less meat. The burger a friend had looked great and she enjoyed it. There are only picnic tables to sit at and it's outside seating. There is shade available. Prices are on the high side, but it's so fresh it's was worth it. Overall we really like it. I'd be worried if it were crowded with that server that it would be a frustrating experience. We will go back though.
google avatar

Mackenzie L.

Yelp
super fresh & yummy food! they are new which was obvious. there are definitely some things like speed of service that hopefully improve by our next visit, but overall the staff was very friendly and the food was so good. love the cute diner feel while still being able to enjoy the outside!!
google avatar

Kelly F.

Yelp
We are so fortunate to have this restaurant right there in Eastmark! We order take out or stop in for a bite almost once a week at this point - the food is great quality & delicious. The service is fantastic as well. Tonight when I went to order online and got an error message, I called in and they picked up on the second ring and took care of me right away. We love the burgers but the salads are delicious as well!
google avatar

Yaya K.

Yelp
Food is good! But Come on, $15 for a chicken sandwich, without side?????? In Mesa, Arizona's??????
google avatar

K J.

Yelp
We saw the Fox 10 morning news report on Steadfast. The food looked amazing. We love the concept so went early afternoon. It is a very cute venue for Eastmark Park. All outdoor seating...you would not be able to dine in the summer. The food was nothing as it appeared on TV. I ordered the smash burger. The two paper thin patties were not visible outside the bun as shown on the news program. It was tasty but very small for $15. I don't think the meat totaled 1/4 lb. Mostly bun and sauce. I couldn't even taste the homemade pickle and very little lettuce on board. My husband ordered the fried chicken sandwich. The chicken breast was so small the bun hid it. Not the huge crispy breast presented for the TV show. He said the chicken was very dry. Disappointed for $15z We ordered the farmers daughter ($12) which is a basket of fries, cheese kurds and onion rings. The cheese Kurds were really tasty. The onion rings were very thin and small. Definitely not the large rings shown as a side on the news program. The fries were leftovers. They were just small pieces. So small you couldn't dip in ketchup. Very disappointed in the portion sizes for the price. We ordered a coke and an Arnold Palmer. The Arnold Palmer was $4.50. Mostly ice in a grande size cup. No sweetener available on tables. I had to ask. There were no servers around to wave down. They go hide behind a gate. My husband asked for a refill of his Coke when we were almost finished with lunch and they returned with plain ice tea. Ridiculous. Service did not deserve a tip. Yes, I left one. I want for this to be a success, cute idea, but I don't see it happening. You can't make magazine food for a TV ad opportunity and then make subpar food the same day the news report aired. $63 for lunch with the tip. Ridiculous. Won't be back.

Gary M.

Yelp
I know it's Friday but ordered took 14 minutes to get drinks and 45 minutes to get food. The food pastrami was hot and tasty, salad was $$$ and small portions. I would give it one more chance, I think they need a bigger kitchen to handle orders
google avatar

Grace B.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. Enjoyed a nice dinner while kids also played in grassy area next to us. This place will be a go to when visiting Mesa, AZ. We had classic burgers, chicken sandwich, fries, two kids meals. All delicious.
google avatar

Matt ..

Yelp
Steadfast is truly great farm to table food in the heart of Eastmark. Our family has been a few different times and the food is always incredible. Since opening it looks like they've worked out the service kinks due to demand & staffing and our last couple visits have been pretty efficient and timely, but certainly not a place I'd go in a time crunch as the kitchen is very tiny and apt to get backed up during the dinner rush. Overall, it's tough to beat some great outside dining in Spring in AZ the menu and drink list is incredible and work well together. Can't wait to head back
google avatar

Tyler J.

Yelp
Waited an hour. Wife got a cold burger and mine had a hair in it. But it looked good. Manager was nice enough. But food bloggers and the news put this place on blast and being a local it's nice to see it thriving but makes it not a place I would return and I live down the street. We have some other hidden gems on this side of the valley that I will go. Shouldn't have to wait an hour for burgers and fries and onion rings.
google avatar

Le'Derrianne G.

Yelp
Saw a post about this places farm to table style burgers and wanted to try them. Drove out to Eastmark after a workout and it was totally worth the drive. Somewhere I'll be back and bring people to. Servers were helpful right away, you can seat yourself. It's a cute little place with plenty of outside seating facing the park so also lots of open space to run or picnic too. Food was awesome! They make everything in house and I mean everything. The ketchup the mustard the ranch and the burger sauce too. They have great shakes too my gf got a cookies and cream shake and it was delicious. A cute place to enjoy good grass fed burgers and a drink. Nice and clean space with a homey feel to it. Check it out! Good stuff!

Ray N.

Yelp
Was excited to try as they have grass fed beef burgers. We set outside at the picnic tables with an overhead misting system. Wasn't bad at all. The burgers were smash burgers and pressed so thin you could hardly taste the beef. The part hanging outside the bun was so thin it was like hash browns. Both our burgers were saturated with catsup and mustard. The menu said it had catsup and mustard but this was way too much. My wife had the "homemade " lemonade. Not impressed. $34 for 2 burgers and a lemonade and that's before tax and tip. Won't be back.

Erica U.

Yelp
Indoor seats only about 8 people, the remaining seating is all outside. The quality of the food was not great for the price point.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
This place was amazing! The staff was on point with service. They let us know right away there would be a wait. I liked the outside seating and look of the whole place. And the FOOD was outstanding!
google avatar

Jerry S.

Yelp
Glad to see this diner back owners with new ownership. We checked it out and it was outstanding. Burger was good and cheese curds were outstanding as was our salad.

Gunnar W.

Yelp
Recently moved to the area. This place is an instant favorite. The food is delicious and the staff are energetic and friendly. I will continue to come back here.

Nicole R.

Yelp
Burger is outstanding. I've ordered it about five times will be coming back. Very good ingredients

Yelp
I was really excited to try the place came Saturday 10:35am on 2/1/25 waited and 11am comes we are by the door, and waiting and the people just sat down get served. I understand the place is new, was hoping to try farm fresh local fair but after waiting 25 mins it as frustrating

D M.

Yelp
Was really excited to try this place with my mom and aunt. It pains me to say this but I feel like the owners/cooks need to know... The food was god awful. I have never had so much grease in one meal. Couldn't even eat the fries cause they were so infused with grease. The burger was leaking grease. The cheese curds . The prices are crazy high!!! $15 for a smash burger? $16 for a Ruben that was leaking grease? Chicken planks that were expensive and loaded with grease? With no sides with the sandwiches? $3.75 for an iced tea? With no refills? I mean it was barely tea. More like water hinted with tea flavor. $12 for a "farmers daughter" that consisted of a hand full of the greasiest fries I've ever had, maybe 3-4 mediocre sized greasy onion rings and a hand full of cheese curds that I struggled to find the cheese hidden within the heavy greasy breading. I'm actually shocked with all the 4-5 star reviews. All 3 of us left feeling nauseas. Sorry Steadfast. Please try to conquer the grease! Server was nice, but service was REALLY slow and it wasn't that busy. Finally, Eastmark, do something with your restroom (singular). No TP, pee all over the toilets and floors, no hand towels, and the place smelled like an outhouse.

Jim B.

Yelp
It's good but pricey for what you get. Sandwiches are just that a sandwich nothing with it u want fries onion rings curd you pay for it. Glad tried it won't spend that much again 60 buck two sandwiches side order of mix 3 sides two drinks with tip. Not worth price sit outside on picnic tables. But they got good buisness so lot people like it I'll save the money
google avatar

Cristin K.

Yelp
Incredible food and service! The veggie burger is the bomb. Good value for the food quality, freshness, and variety.
google avatar

Kathleen M.

Yelp
As much as I hate to add this I really want the owners to know. Physically the place is very cute. Service was excellent. The food was very poor. It was as so greasy as it was literally. Dripping grease. The fries were soaked in grease. The chicken was nearly inedible due to grease. The menu was perfect but the food. Oh man. I don't know how any chef could serve that and expect any different reaction. Sorry folks.
google avatar

Pamela N.

Yelp
Delicious chicken sandwich and burgers and they even have gluten free buns. The dipping sauces are yummy and service was fast and friendly. Love this place and we will definitely be back.

Yelp
The food was very good which is why I'm giving them a four. That being said they still have some kinks to work out. I know they're new and still figuring thing about but it took over an hr to get our food. They also currently only have two high chairs which for such a family friendly outdoor restaurant they really should have more as people were like arguing over them
