As a big Chinese foodie, I adore this place!!! Originally started coming here for their noodle soups in 2020, which are exquisitely flavourful and very authentic. The beef noodle soup is my go-to, especially in the winter. They’ve also recently started serving more menu items, including clay pot dishes, and this minced pork and chive flowers with salted black beans, which is my new favorite. The ambience is really cozy and the interior is well decorated. Can’t believe this place isn’t more popular! One of my absolute favorite spots to satisfy my Chinese cravings in New Haven.

Google
It's a cozy little place with friendly service and fantastic food. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is that there is no vegan protein offered (other than edamame). They couldn't throw some tofu in the veggie dishes? But otherwise this is comfort food for the soul. Take a look at these bok choy and scallion dishes I had yesterday:

Google
Highly recommend their beef noodle soup, shrimp shumai and steamed buns! I don’t particularly enjoy their vegetable noodle soup — it’s a bit bland. Ambiance is great (downstairs seating is nice) and service was quick!

吃了会窜稀。 The food in the fast food section sit too long outside and became toxic. I have had two times of diarrhea experiences, both time I knew I was eating something risky and I ended up on the toilet 15-30 minute after consuming the food. It’s not me who had this experience. The owner should take some actions.

Google
Stopped by for some dumplings and soup on a whim. Service was quick, there was no wait at all to dine in. We were really pleased with the braised beef soup, it was moderately spicy and had nice flavor, noodles had nice chew. The pork soup dumplings were excellent as were the beef dumplings. They were served super fresh straight in the bamboo steamer. This is quality, genuine Chinese food, it's in a different league compared to the typical "general tso's" type of Chinese food. We will definitely be going back to try more items from the menu.

Google
Very nice aesthetics. Great choices in food and teas. The sticky rice cakes with garlic and scallions were incredible. The dumplings were good, but not the best I've had. Would like to return and explore their menu more, which could change their score.

Google
I've only ordered from here twice but both times have been very delicious. I am especially obsessed with their Szechuan Style Cold Noodles and the steamed eggplant with mashed garlic. The spicy eggplant is also amazing. Very flavorful and perfect amount of spicy for all 3 dishes !! I enjoyed their cucumber salad as well. I don't think they are anymore expensive than Americanized Chinese food. Looking forward to becoming a regular.

Google
I got the pork dumplings steamed Pork Soup dumplings Beef brisket soup Nothing had flavor. The soup was so spicy that’s all you could taste and had so much oil. Idk how this place got so many good ratings but this food was not worth my money.

Yelp
Service was great, filling inside of the dumplings were tasty ! Best Scallion pancake I've had in New Haven! The wrapper for the dumplings was just too thick for my liking. Would order again.

Emma W.

Yelp
Ordered three soups, over-boiled noodles that had the consistency of wallpaper paste and bland. Nearly $60 with delivery and tip and going straight into the trash. Bummer.

Jules Y.

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here and waited about 15 minutes: -Xiao Long Bao (Pork Soup Dumplings): 3/5 Skin was very thick and kept sticking to the foil pan, so it kept breaking and leaking out the juice :( I wasn't too impressed with the filling inside either, but it was mainly the thick skin that ruined the experience for me -Chong Qing Pork Noodle: 3.5/5 The noodles were well-made and the spice was very flavorful. However, they gave such a skimpy serving of pork that I felt betrayed Based on other reviews, perhaps you'll enjoy this restaurant more if you ordered other Dim Sum items!

Jasmine B.

Yelp
This place really surprised me. Walked in for lunch to dine in, which they have downstairs. When we got downstairs it was a bustling lunch spot, with well spaced seating and cozy. We ordered off the menu and it did not disappoint. Everything was so tasty and plentiful. The star dish for us was the beef noodle soup, which has just the right enough of spice, and the meat was so tender. I really enjoyed their chili pepper dumplings, one of the better ones I've had. The wait staff was also very attentive, and answered all our questions.

Isabel B.

Yelp
A really cute spot. When you walk in you're greeted with a buffet area but just ask for seating. Downstairs is nice and they had their AC on, which is nice. It's cute and modern. The menu is small and easy to choose from. We got a lot of food and all of it was good! I especially loved their seaweed salad...it's crazy good!!! All the dumplings we got were great as well, soft and fluffy and with a good crunch. Service was okay as well. We never had a problem. Our drinks did come after food was served but we had.l no bad experience here. Nice spot.

Yelp
Went to Steamed on Saturday 10/2, at about 11:40am to order dim sum. I had double checked Google Reviews and Yelp, and both had store hours listed as opening at 11am everyday. Front door was locked. A worker opened the door and told me the store's not open until 12:30pm. No explanation.

William R.

Yelp
This is why I love hole in the wall restaurants! It is a very cozy atmosphere with only a few tables. The décor is very warm, it feels like someone invited you over for dinner. Since the restaurant was so tiny the service was immediate. The food was exactly what we were looking for - authentic dim sum. We tried the shrimp dumplings, pork soup dumplings and black sesame glutinous rice balls. The shrimp dumplings were consistent with the quality you would normally find in NYC. The only difference was that they didn't have quite as much shrimp inside. The pork soup dumplings were also what I would expect from NYC. I liked how they weren't super salty like some other soup dumplings. Finally, the glutinous black sesame rice balls. These things are amazing! The outside is very soft and gooey. The inside is a unique sweet, salty, nutty sesame paste with an incredible flavor. Come here for a quick bite of authentic dim sum!

Branon R.

Yelp
Got some take out today. Pork buns, savory cucumbers, and steamed dumplings. My wife who is a picky eater would rate it 10 stars if she could. Everything was fresh and super tasty. Will be back, multiple times!

Serena P.

Yelp
Steamed is one of those places that looks much bigger on the inside then it does on the outside. There's seating downstairs, and the whole spot is pretty cozy. This is the first time I've been since the pandemic started and the first time I got noodles instead of dimsum, but I think that's the move. Their noodles/entrées are priced very affordably (I think more so than their dimsum). The soup isn't too salty and the broth I had tasted like it was good quality. This will give you a little bit of a good coma but very much with it. Their location is also great, you can swing by and get boba or grab some HKM groceries on the way home.

Catherine L.

Yelp
Went to this place for my moms birthday dinner. Very cute for how small it is. Food was excellent and came out in an extremely timely manner. The chili oil dumplings and wonton soup were my favorite! Service was extremely quick though they seemed to try and rush us through our meal in the beginning before our whole party even arrived. Will definitely be going back!

Lily M.

Yelp
Ambiance was good. The live Bruno mars concert album was awesome. We loved the hibiscus tea and hot oil dumplings. Pork buns were okay. The beef brisket was chewy at some points, but the taste was good. Service was polite and timely. Check it out for sure, we had a lot of fun!

LauRa W.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. I didn't expect this to be as good as it was. A little spicy as stated in the menu. It was pretty filling & for the price it was worth it in my opinion. Customer service was good. Will definitely be back!

Jacob I.

Yelp
Excellent food, great prices, good service. Great for quick lunch takeout. They also have a menu available for full service.

Joe W.

Yelp
Great dumplings! Little expensive but good spot. We enjoyed the xiao long bao but all the soup leaked out

Shirley K.

Yelp
Overall, my experience here was just ok. The food is not that great. Whenever I visit a "Taiwa ese" styled resturant or XLB place I always order what is usually the signature or staple. They are the beef noodle soup, XLB, and Sheng Jiang Bao. The beef noodle soup was disappointing. The beef was a bit overcooked and if they are going to serve the piece of beef with the tendon the need to wash the tendon better before cooking. The noodles were more mushy than chewy. The bok choy was overcooked and soft. The broth was oily looking and was lacking a lot of herbs and spices. The XLB had a thick skin and I know it is a style, but more typical XLB places serve it with a thin skin and it takes more skill to steam thin XLB than thick skinned XLB. The meat was just ok . The broth threw me off in that it was quite concentrated. The broth should be a light and compliment the rest of the bao. The sheng jian bao was also not made well. It seems more store bought rather than self prepped. The bao was too dense and the some of the meat in a few of the baos tasted old. Sheng jian bao is an oily dish but it is prepared steaming hot and when you bite into it there should be broth bursting out. The meat should be a large portion of the bao and the bao skin should be thinner. I agree with the other reviewer that for this type of food, they should be coming out piping hot and not just warm. If it isn't hot enough the juices in the baos are usually absorbed into the dough and you arent able to experience the bursting juices of the broth.

Sabrina D.

Yelp
I have never been so catfished in my life. The place was absolutely filthy dust everywhere. The decor was beautiful but dirty I still tried to look past and give the place a chance. Big mistake. I couldn't bring myself to order more than one thing from the menu because I was just worried that it would be as dirty as the place looked. And I was right I ordered one order of pork soup dumplings and The dough was undercooked you could tell by the texture of the dumpling and then when I broke it inside the pork was still very pink. Do yourself a favor and just walk past this place and forget about it like the owners obviously have. The one employee he was sitting in the front also saw me shit by dumpling out didn't bother to ask the quality of the food either.

Yelp
To say I am impressed would be an understatement. While not every dish was flawless, what put Steamed at the top of my list is their commitment to authenticity and that deserves the utmost praise in my book. Xiaolongbao (4.5/5): These xiaolongbao are hardly small. Each pouch easily outsized my Asian soup spoon. The xiaolongbao burst with hot juices when bitten into (mine popped before I had the chance to scoop them into my bowl!) and were filled with a classic pork filling. The pork filling could have used more seasoning, but the skins on these pouches were super thin and tender. The ripples at the top are clearly demonstrative of a pinching technique long perfected. Har Gow (5.5/5!): Yes, 5.5 out of 5!! These har gow are the largest I've seen on the East Coast and oh so succulent. Each generously-sized pocket enveloped not one, not two, but three (at least!) pieces of pale pink shrimp! Moreover, their shrimp was marinated in such a way that brought out a pleasant sweetness. The fact that the skins were practically translucent also speaks to the attention and care the staff took into making sure the wrap were thin. The har gow is easily the BEST dim sum dish here. Pan-fried baos (5/5): The pork filling used was en pointe--extra pink and very flavorful. The dough for the buns was homemade and on the thicker side, but successfully held up to the heft of the meat mixture and pool of juices wrapped within. The only critique I have for these is that I wish the bottoms had been crispier. Pan-fried dumplings (5/5): These were surprisingly juicy, as we learned when a stream of liquid squirt forth at first bite! The restaurant was out of baos so they threw in two dumplings to compensate. The filling was akin to that used in the xiaolongbao but had more leek and scallion. Pork belly filled bread (4/5): The pork belly was extremely soft and served in a piece of folded bread (bao). The bread here, too, was homemade and had a pleasant chew. While the pickled veggies and scallion were nice additions, the dish could have benefitted from the inclusion of a thick, sweet, hoisin-like sauce as it was a tad dry served as is. Braised beef brisket noodle (4.5/5): I wasn't a huge fan of the choice of noodles used here, but the broth was extremely flavorful and fragrant. The chili oil used was reminiscent of Szechuan cuisine. The brisket yielded easily to my chopsticks and I loved the pieces of chopped bamboo used as topping. I only wish there had been more brisket! Until Steamed, I've never had worthy dim sum in CT. I would be hard-pressed to believe that there is better!

Crystal B.

Yelp
Food unfortunately seemed to be lack flavor. The shumi honestly had zero flavor. Had to put an abundance in soy sauce on it to make it taste better. The beef dumplings weren't to bad. Had more flavor then the other things. Hoping it was just an off night. I will say the staff were very nice and accommodating. I also want to mention there was a few water spots on floor. I'm thinking it's the condensation from the a/c and it being summer. I am only mentioning this because I don't want anything to happen. Prices were pretty good as well.

Jess L.

Yelp
My takeout dishes were on point. The vibe is similar to Xi'an, but they did away with the ordering counter, and the top floor is mostly tables for dining in. They focus primarily on soups and dim sum. The soups looked huge! I kind of wish they had more options in terms of dish types, but the food we ordered was good. The soup dumplings were some of the best I've had in New Haven, with a good ratio of skin, soup, and meat. They were nice and delicate and popped with soup. Pork dumplings are tough to mess up, so these were definitely satisfying. Nothing too revolutionary here but good. Ma La ducks had a nice spiciness to them. I really liked the dry rub! These dishes were ready for my pickup in 15 minutes. I look forward to eating in next time and trying a soup.

Bonnie G.

Yelp
Their dumplings are actually homemade, so if you've gotta wait 15 min for a huge pork bun like I did, it's a good sign. These are not your average frozen pork buns. The buns themselves were delicious, but the pork is more like a wonton. If you're seeking a BBQ pork bun, totally different story. The pork buns aren't BBQ here but still good.

Yelp
What a nice find! Steamed was one of those restaurants I went to with reservations about the authenticity and quality - I am happy to say that it absolutely blew my expectations out of the water. Upon entering, you are instantly greeted with the fragrant smell of peppercorn and sweet chili oil and classic Chinese decor. They even have a whole other section downstairs with even more seating! Being our first time here, we wanted to be able to try a bit of each. That being said, we ordered the: Har Gow (Crystal Shrimp Dumplings): (5/5) This dish alone scores Steamed a five star review just by itself. These are some of the largest har gows I have seen, bursting with juicy, jumbo shrimp and encased and the beautiful "crystal" skin that had just the right amount of chew. These dumplings were almost the size of the XLB! I have had har gow at some top dim sum establishments from NY to HK and this stands out among the very best! Wow, just wow! Sheng Jiang Bao (Pan Fried Pork Buns): (4/5) Classic Shanghainese buns, Steamed does these just right. They are nice and juicy on the inside with what I think is the perfect amount of crispness to the fried bottom. The dough is clearly homemade and the quality shows. Only slight personal adjustment would just be for a thinner wrap. Pickled Pork Belly in Chinese Bread (Pork Bao): (3/5) The most lackluster of what we tried at Steamed but still good nonetheless. The Bao here is homemade and the pork belly is well prepared. However, they would have benefitted greatly from more pork belly and perhaps some scallions and hoisin sauce to provide more depth of flavor! Xiao Long Bao (Pork Soup Dumplings): (5/5) XLB done right: thin skin and an interior filled with rich pork broth! Filling was a bit light in salt content but that is more a personal preference. The standard accompaniment of black vinegar and ginger helps balance this out. Beef Brisket Noodle Soup: (4/5) Perfect bowl of noodle soup for a cold day! The broth is addictive and spicy and the beef is fall apart tender. That being said, the noodles started clumped together and the amount of beef was quite low. These qualities don't stop this from being a killer bowl of noodles though. All in all, Steamed is an amazing addition to the New Haven food scene and stands out among the other authentic Chinese spots. I would make the trip again for those heavenly har gow themselves, but their other nuanced dishes command attention as well and make Steamed one of my top favorites in the New Haven area!

Yelp
Fancied a bit of dim sum and chinese after outlet shopping so we stopped here on the way home. It's tiny when you walk in and I was afraid it was going to be a wait but we were shown to a much bigger area downstairs and were seated straight away. The menu is very limited but oh so very uniquely special, which is difficult to find in CT for a Chinese restaurant. The pork ribs clay pot was almost a spicy Chinese curry flavor which was absolutely delish. We ordered pork soup dumplings, beef dumplings and shrimp dumplings. Kids and the Mrs were not disappointed. Big kid ordered the wonton soup which was a larger bowl than expected with a lot of wontons, seaweed, egg and some veg, yumm, The braised beef brisket noodle soup with bok choy was also an absolute winner with a good spice kick. We devoured and shared everything in our typical tapas fashion and thoroughly enjoyed all the unique tastes which will keep this place firmly on my radar. Excellent job guys.

Kathleen S.

Yelp
Soooo good. Hot oil dumplings and soup dumplings. Delicious. Want try the Har Gow next.

Sandra L.

Yelp
Pretty good. Has few dim sum options but there are very few options in the neighborhood so it's nice to have this place around. The shrimp dumplings were pretty good! I would get them again if I craved. The veggie dumplings weren't great. The skin is just too thick and the inside isn't flavorful. Still, I appreciate steamed since it is a good option for Asian food and dumplings! The food came later than expected but it wasn't a long wait.

Karen L.

Yelp
One of my favorite Chinese restaurants in New Haven!! Their congee with pork and century egg tastes like home and their Three Flavor Rice Noodle Soup was so flavorful. Would definitely come here again! And the inside of the restaurant is beautiful. The decorations and design make you feel like you're at a restaurant in China

Linda O.

Yelp
This place sucks! Let's start with the Decour. This place is something out of World War II. Needs a serious upgrade. Everything is dated, dusty, sticky, smelly and worn out. Lots and lots of dark wood paneling if you're into that. Yeah definitely a time warp. Let's move onto the food. My friend and I had a very large bowl of vegetable noodle soup. The vegetables were delicious and there were tons and tons and tons and tons and tons of noodles. If you like noodles you will love the soup. It should actually be called noodles and vegetable soup because you get a lot of noodles. We also shared a dish of pork fried dumplings which the waiter thought would be a better choice. The dumplings were overcooked and greasy and definitely freezer burn around the edges. However the soy sauce was pretty good. If you want a blasé lunch go there. Unfortunately there are no photos to show you. No need to show photos. Just don't go there.

Essy L.

Yelp
Food service and ambience is an a+. Can't wait to try again. Wonton soup was superb.

Kevin X.

Yelp
Providing a much-needed dim sum dining experience to the area, Steamed has relatively authentic dishes, but the quality is just not up to par. The menu isn't as diverse as most dim sum establishments typically are, but given the dearth of similar restaurants in the area, this restaurant is okay. The food itself is mediocre, and the quality of the ingredients does not seem to be very good, insufficient enough that it is discernible by taste. As for service and the ambiance, there's not too much to complain about; there's definitely enough space, and even if the service is slow at times, the wait staff is kind and diligently takes your orders. When I came here, I had the tofu cold dish appetizer, fried leek dumpling, pork bun sandwich, spicy pork soup, and pan-fried pork dumplings. The tofu cold dish appetizer came as expected, not bad but nothing spectacular. As for the fried leek dumplings, these were good and tasted relatively genuine, as was the pork bun sandwich and the soup. The pan-fried pork dumplings, however, seemed quite deficient, as they tasted very off in the content of the filling. It wasn't a problem of quantity or amount, but more about the quality of the ingredients and how it tasted almost expired or refrigerated for too long. I thought a dim sum joint would make sure that their dumpling varieties would be top-notch, but I found this slightly off-putting. As for the interior, there's seating both upstairs and downstairs, and the ambiance is quite homey. Something about how the tables were oriented in the general layout seemed off-putting, but I can't exactly put a finger on it, but otherwise the interior design was charming. The service was pretty slow, at least compared to other restaurants of similar nature. The wait staff was kind and attentive, but I would note that the kitchen was backed up when I came during a late afternoon. Slightly disappointing, given my initial excitement at finding a dim sum restaurant in the area, but something perhaps worth trying anew if you've never been here before.

Dan L.

Yelp
This small, cozy restaurant is different than most Chinese restaurants I've been to, and the feel is much more authentic. The inside is well done, clean and the service was great. We had both- soup dumplings and the braised beef brisket noodle soup, and highly recommend both. The soup dumplings are large with plenty of soup inside. Love the idea of dim sum, and can't wait to go back and try more plates here.

Franki H.

Yelp
I came here with my partner for a weekday lunch for the first time last week. We had only ever had proper dim sum once previously elsewhere and it was disappointing. I feel like here, at Steamed, I experienced what dim sum is meant to be! The place appears small, but does have a downstairs so there's more tables than the three or four up top. We were able to park on the street just a block away. We ordered the scallion pancakes, beef dumplings, pork buns, and sticky rice. My favorite was, hands down, the sticky rice. They had a little spicy kick and a really lovely very texture. I'd go back for those again. Everything else was tasty though I personally didn't love the beef dumplings, my partner did so it was a personal taste thing. I'd go back!

Connie Y.

Yelp
As an Asian person, I was excited to try a dim sum place in the area and was severely disappointed. I thought a new place would be fresh and alluring for an Asian person craving authentic dim sum without trekking to NYC. But alas! First of all - half the menu was crossed out (no clay pot or Chinese platters); the remainder items were also an extra $1 from baseline elevated prices. There was also no soup dumplings - eyeing the picture ahead of time I had high hopes - all that went bust. The Har Gaw was also not large and full The appetizers came out after the main entree which is strange. I got the braised beef noodle soup - there were 3 small pieces of beef in the soup which is quite shameful. While the broth tasted fine, the highlight should be the braised beef which was lacking. To add salt to the wounds, I tried the Chinese pork belly (which is charged per bun at a whopping $10). The pork belly was dark and withered and only a thin single piece. No juicy fat or tenderness! It was just sadly being sucked into the bun.

Emmeline K.

Yelp
My usual take out order is a rotation of scallion pancakes, ma la chicken wings, pan fried pork buns, and chilled cucumbers (usually some combination of 3 of these). The chicken wings especially go great with white rice!! I've enjoyed all the noodle soups I've gotten here although they're usually fairly heavy on the noodles. Personally I think the sticky rice (cakes) and soups taste better in person compared to to-go, but that might be me being picky lol and there are plenty of delicious options that are take out friendly! Prices are fair and staff is always friendly; Steamed is a staple in New Haven for sure.

Lauren R.

Yelp
Connecticut has a serious lack of dim sum places, so I was overjoyed when I found this on Yelp while searching for a dinner spot in New Haven. It really satisfied the major craving I'd had for some good dim sum for months. I got pan fried pork dumplings and shared a scallion pancake with my friend. Both were really flavorful and just so delicious. The dumplings were big and juicy, and the pancake was crispy but not overly so. This place is really adorable too. It's very small, but set up in a way that makes it feel like a home. It's a perfect spot for dinner for two, but definitely do not come here with a large party. The waiters were quite nice as well, and it was a very pleasant dining experience.

Lindsay N.

Yelp
Been here twice! I like it - i do. Knocked off two Stars for a few reasons. 1. It was extremely cold both times I came. Like had to keep my Coat on and order tea to keep warm. And they have a bar and wine glasses. No wine? But. The food is real good. I like it. I really like the atmosphere. The downstairs is big and can fit large parties. I hope they can get their act together because I can really see myself coming here more frequently.

Michaela P.

Yelp
Came again and had another DELICIOUS experience! I was super bummed to see that the tofu that I raved about in my older review got taken off the menu, but we ordered the savory chilled cucumber (guests sitting at the table next to us recommended it) and it was so good I forgot all about it. It was literally just chopped up cucumbers, sesame oil, chili, and garlic, but there was some other mystery element that made it taste amazing - whatever that was. Then we had the scallion pancakes which were the literal best I've ever had. They were SO perfectly light and crispy. We also got the pork soup dumplings again, as well as the pan fried pork buns and the har gow. The soup dumplings were even better this time around and the pork buns were unreal. They were definitely our favorite of the night. The har gow wasn't our favorite, though they were a very generous size! Steamed has easily become THE place I immediately think of when I crave dim sum (which is pretty often) - I can't wait to go again!

Kirk M.

Yelp
So I've mentioned a few times before how much I love food travel shows, but also how much I hate them as I am so often made to watch some random person eat these amazing foods that I know I will likely never get a chance to enjoy. Such was the case with soup dumplings. Just these little pockets of soupy, brothy happiness with a little meaty surprise inside. Sure, there were probably places within striking distance that offered these, but my laziness combined with what is sometimes a complete lack of motivation meant it just wasn't going to happen. Then one day...Yelp happened. While doing some reconnaissance for a New Haven Valentines Day dinner, Yelp just "happened" to suggest this place out of the blue. Well played yelp, well played. The reviews and images were enough to get my wife and I and son and his girlfriend in the door the next night. First off from the outside, you would likely drive right by this place and not even notice it was there. Basically a converted house, nothing flashy or screaming "COME IN HERE AND FEED YOUR FACE", and I like that. Also, super handy parking like right next to it and if you get the right table you can actually keep an eye on your car, big plus in New Haven. There were what looked like 2 entrances, one at street level and one down a set of stairs, we went in the street level one and that seemed to be the right choice. We were seated immediately and offered some tasty fresh New Haven water. Pro-tip incoming: Do NOT drink this water. We had done enough recon to pretty much know what we wanted so we put our order in right away. Now here's the thing about this place, the service is a bit...odd. Not bad or terrible, just kind of spur of the moment I guess? The food came out really oddly timed, like one main, then an app, then someone else's main, etc. We were all basically sharing everything so it didn't bother me as much as it might have at another place. The same thing happened during our second visit but again, if you're sharing it's not really that big of a deal. As far as the food goes, it was literally everything I had imagined. The pork soup dumplings were like little pasta oysters that offered a large pearl of heavenly meant. So amazing. It took some practice figuring out how to eat them without looking like an idiot, but we got there. Pan-fried pork dumplings also amazing and some of the best we've had ever. And if you go hear and DON'T try the pickled pork belly bao, you've made a grave mistake my friend. Other highlights from that night and another subsequent visit would include the Braised Beef Brisket Noodle Soup, the Pork Ribs Noodle Soup (both of which had just an amazingly delicate and complex broth) and the Ma La Chicken Wings app. The wings were especially amazing as they had a really uniquely spicey dry rub that made my tongue feel stuff. Besides the water, my other pass suggestion would be the Nanjing Salted Duck app. My son ordered it and said he loved it, I can tell you with no hesitation though that it was awful. Just cold, underspiced, sad pieces of sliced meat. Hard pass there. Overall this place is a win for me and was an instant add to our ever-growing New Haven dining rotation. If you're within 30 minutes, it's worth the trip. And put some extra money in the parking machine and walk to Koffee On Audobon right down the street for an after dinner java fix.

Yelp
This is a follow-up review. After reading several of the recent whiny reviews I decided to return for takeout last night. I got three appetizers and four entrees. I didn't special order anything. I think several reviewers missed the fact that we have been negotiating a pandemic for several years now. Yes, several items that were previously on the menu are not there; the menu, with a lot of variety, does not have the exhaustive range of dishes one finds on offer from a Greek diner. Perhaps the cook couldn't get the ingredients? Perhaps they decided to focus on a few dishes and make them great. I have no idea. However, the food was spectacular! Spicy, deep, rich but not oily. This is not American Chinese food, so avoid if that's what you're looking for. But hot, tasty, with a variety of textures and flavor profiles, this place has it. And it took 15 from order to pick up.

Yelp
Came here after visiting the one in Madison, CT (which is AMAZING by the way). The ambiance here feels a little bit classier, with a slightly different menu than the location in Madison (attached is the menu of the New Haven location). It's a little bit pricey, but I think the price is worth the flavor and quality. We ordered shrimp dumplings, pork soup dumplings, Ma La chicken wings, scallion pancake, sticky rice, braised beef brisket noodle soup, and pan-fried pork buns. Everything we ate was incredible and came out in a timely fashion. The food was so flavorful and delicious (my mouth is watering writing this review). I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu because everything was delicious and everything else looks really great too. I hope to come back soon so I can try everything else!

Yelp
Absolutely horrible! I am beyond furious! Spent $35 Just for some tasteless dumplings with no freaking soup!!!!they all where split!! I wish yelp let you add a video but I guess a picture will do. The absolute worst place Ive ever tried. The chili dumplings where basic at most. I Feel like they just got dumplings from the asian market frozen section next door and served them to us. NEVER AGAIN!

Yelp
Yuck Came in, place was full. Asked if we could wait, the server who barely spoke a word at all gave us a look and said we can do take out. We didn't mind waiting so we asked if we could wait for a table and he shrugged. We asked if he wanted our name and he said no. So we waited outside until we saw some people leave. We waited 20 minutes (which was fine) and sat down. We ordered the spicy and sour potato which was completely bland, no flavor no visual spice and potatoes were crunchy and undercooked. When mentioned to the server, he could not care less. He shrugged and said "mm". The cucumber was practically in a soup of flavorless sauce. The shrimp har gow was greasy and veggie dumplings hard on the edges. We watched the server turn away several other tables while we ate. Even when we were about to pay, a pair came in and he told them it was full and he didn't know how long the wait would be, encouraging them to leave. I hope he's the owner if he's so comfortable being so rude to people. I guess it's the best dim sum in New Haven but only since it's the only one. But it was really flavorless, generally awful, and you'd be better off buying some frozen trader Joe's gyoza and making it at home.

Yelp
If possible, I'm a little indifferent to this place after going the other night. There's not really a good place to enter - there's no obvious host/hostesss or anyone to greet you when you get in. We waited around a bit and someone said "There's a table downstairs" so we walked down and were seated near the window which was cold, with a large plant in my face and my husband seated on a bench with no back. The menu was relatively small, but maybe that's common for dim sum places. They have no alcohol/beer here and they also did not have bubble tea which IS on the menu (which my friend wanted to order). We got hot tea instead. We ordered a few different types of dumplings - the shrimp were good (very hot!) and the fried pork dumplings were very good, especially the breading. I ordered wonton soup which I found a little bland. My friend asked for hot oil twice and we never got it. My friend and husband also ordered scallion pancakes and the leek dumplings (which are VERY large, so if you're going to get those, start with 1, not 2!) and enjoyed them both. Overall I wasn't wowed by anything in particular. Service was so so, we were cold the whole time, didn't get the hot oil, etc. I wouldn't be in a rush to come back here.

Yelp
Steamed is excellent!! I love the chive box, one of my fave dim sum classics. So delicious!!! Chive egg and vermicelli yummy!!! I only wish it were cheaper like flushing prices. ($6 for one is more expensive than I'm used to.) The sheng jian bao (pan fried pork dumplings) are excellent. It's a delicious Shanghainese classic dim sum that steamed does a good job of. I tried the main dishes like the garlic eggplant as well, another favorite dish of mine. The elegant garlicky flavors are highlighted in delicious eggplant juice. Yummy!! The beef is super yummy too. I'm so glad New Haven has a Chinese dim sum spot. And I'm even more glad that it's not just traditional Cantonese style dim sum. The style that Steamed offers is more of a Shanghainese style mix, which is getting more popular these days!! They do also offer Cantonese dim sum classics like har gow (shrimp dumpling). I will definitely return!!

Yelp
Came here for lunch with a friend. Parking was easy during the day. We were seated almost immediately-I headed downstairs to make a pit stop at the bathroom and it definitely could have used a good cleaning. We ordered a few apps: soup dumplings, pork belly buns and a pan-fried dumpling. (Sadly they were out of the har gow). For the meal we ordered braised beef noodle soup. The first to come out was one braised beef noodle soup, which we were a little confused about as we thought it was the main course and we also ordered one each! The second item was the pork belly wrapped in a bun. It was plenty big so we split that. It was delicious but would have been nice with some pickled veggies or scallions. Next, the soup dumplings and pan-fried dumplings came out and both were also delicious. I finally got my braised beef noodle soup and it was perfectly balanced in terms of spices and flavors! The beef was great, would have loved more veggies though. Overall the food was great, I'd love to see the restaurant a little cleaner.

Yelp
Wow what an experience!! As you can see my friends and I are loving the food almost as much as we love each other. Can I speak about the ambience? Sure, why not!! Steamed was cozy and comfortable, almost to the point of where I felt I was no longer in New Haven Connecticut. You won't find any egg rolls or duck sauce here, just some nice people and food that will guarantee to make your stomach smile.

Yelp
Went on a Wednesday with my husband and the entire restaurant was empty. We ordered three dishes, two soup dishes and some soup dumplings. Sadly to say, the food was basic.

Yelp
This place is literally my fav REAL Chinese food place. I go here ALLL THE TIME. love their cucumber salad and eggplants mmm as well as all of the dumplings. Wish their menu was bigger and had more variety of dishes. The new Middletown location has pork noodles so I'm going to go there to try that. Wish this place would have some variety of noodles. Maybe even Szechuan diced chicken would be yum

Yelp
I have eaten there three times and it serves the best Dim Sum in New Haven. Service is great and they explain (servers and owner) how and with what each dish is made. Each time I went I brought a different friend, and they were just as pleased as I. Can't wait for my next visit!

Yelp
This place is OK, but nothing really to rave about. If I could not leave the area, this place will do, but it's really not that great. We got the scallion pancakes, and it was a little better than frozen ones I buy at the Chinese supermarket. The fried buns were too bready, and the meat was only so-so. The soup dumplings were not bad, but not great. Considering I enjoy drives down to NYC, this place is not really worth my calories. I would rather save it for something of higher quality.

Yelp
. Definitely not baby/toddler friendly: no high chair and very limited space. Food is okay. Opens at 11:30 not 11 like Yelp shows....
