Stem And Glory Review - City - London - The Infatuation

"Stem and Glory might sound like a flower shop with a penchant for the dramatic, but it’s actually an all-day vegan restaurant near the Barbican. This place serves the kind of plant-based food that makes you feel like you could run a marathon, or at the very least make it back up the office stairs without having to stop for breath. Think rainbow bowls, jackfruit bao burgers, kimchi pancakes, and a vegan full-English on the weekends. Several of their salad bowls (our choice is the Darwin) are available to take away, and as well as the usual boozy suspects (craft beer, wine, cocktails) there’s also a whole bunch of mocktails and loose leaf teas." - Heidi Lauth Beasley

The food was surprisingly good, when eating plant based food in restaurants I usually thing they are to sweet, but wow this was really good! I'm looking forward to the spring so I can come back and enjoy the outdoor seating which looked really nice. Cons: (i'm still giving them five stars because I think the food was good and we need more plant based options! :) ) I didn't like the interior because it felt kinda cheap and the music they played was just weird, it was like commercial pop/rock? The service was just weird, on arrival it was almost empty and they said that the only table they had left was the one closest to the door (cold evening = cold winds every time the door opened) but the next 4 couples that arrived after us didn't have a booking either but they were seated further in the restaurant. We asked the waiter what she recommended and she just mentioned she was kinda new and hadn't tried everything, that's of course ok, but I think it's kinda weird. Make it easy, mention one dish that you like and or mention one that is popular?

We went on Valentines night for the set menu and the food blew us both away. I just wish I had the stomach capacity to try everything on the menu because I couldn’t help but lust after everyone else’s dishes as well as my own. Valentines night is one of the busiest nights of the year and yet the service was still impeccable. We never had to wait to get another drink or get our plates cleared I cannot fault the incredible level of food and service. Highly highly recommend.

Lovely vegan restaurant with lovely staff. The place is bright with big windows so you can see all around outside. It was slightly chilly when we went in there first, but we were the first customers @ lunch. We were greeted and seated with a smile by the staff members. We had a hot choco, rooibos & apple tea and raspberry lemonade kombucha. The bartender was amazing as he put a strawberry at the side of the kombucha glass and our 3 year old absolutely loved it. Food wise we wanted to try as many dishes on the menu as we don’t get the chance to travel to London very often. We ordered a pizza for our little one, which for me was one of the best things we tried on the day. Was really yummy with a thin base and super fresh ingredients. From the small plates we had the kimchi pancakes and the king oyster scallops. The pancakes were good, but slightly over-moist with a sauce. The scallops dish’s best thing were the artichokes with an amazing foam sauce. From the large plates we had the bang bang broccoli, pumpkin ravioli, Korean tacos and dirty burger. The star was the ravioli for us with it’s creamy sauce and chopped nuts on top. Second best were the yummy potato fries that came with the burger - they were just amaze! The bang bang broccoli salad was better than the broccoli, but overall a good dish if you like battered veggies. The tacos I found slightly chewy to my liking, but taste was good. For desert we had the creme brûlée and that was truly phenomenal - I can go there just for this desert. We also tried the hazelnut chocolate avocado cake which was a bit dense, but we added some vanilla ice cream and it was great together. Price wise it’s reasonable for London and just for the fact that this is a wholly vegan restaurant. If you are a vegan or vegetarian or simply want to try food that is healthy and good for you definitely have a look at Stem & Glory.

We started our dinner with spicy Korean 'fish' tacos and two delicious mushroom bao buns. Both were absolutely delicious, but the bao buns were just top notch - so tasty and perfectly juicy! 🍛We then had a 'beef' bourguignon as one of two mains. We found it a bit bland, but very filling and warming. The other main was a 'sea bass' dish and it was the absolute star of the night. The fish tasted so real, and the sea flavours blended perfectly well together. 🍰We closed the dinner with a selection of desserts including a cheesecake, chocolate truffles and white chocolate panna cotta. The panna cotta lacked flavour and was a bit of a miss, but the other desserts made up for it, leaving us overall happy and full. 💐Cinni tip: you should definitely consider this restaurant for Mother's Day - they have a separate menu, which we are sure will be as good as the one we had! 🌱 Fully vegan: yes ♿Accessible: 💰Price: £40-£50 for a 3-course dinner 🏮Vibe: modern and elegant 💻Laptop friendly: no 🌾GFO: yes 🐕Dog friendly: no 🏕️Outdoor space: yes 📦Delivery/Takeaway: no 🚾 Toilet: yes

Fantastic option for Vegans and great experience for non-ve as well to discover new flavours! We were lucky to have the place to ourselves before the rush of the dinner service and were able to discover their menu. Would I take my vegan friends there again? Absolutely! And I recommend. The decor is lovely, it was nice, warm and cosy, and although it is winter and we haven’t used it the terrace looked amazing with comfortable seating I cannot wait to try on warmer days. Do I think it was exceptional vs any other restaurant? This is way too healthy for my personal taste and whilst the service started up fantastically it wasn’t the best ending. I had to chase to get plates cleared out, order dessert and a refill on my drink - being the only guests it would have made sense to get the table cleared out before having to chase to order dessert. I know we had to leave the table at 6.30 and would have understood to be hushed out, but instead from 5 or 5.30 we were simply ignored/left there with empty dirty plates and empty glasses on our table. I saw them as recurring theme in reviews: the pancakes. Ours weren’t soggy. They were nice although the sauce was on the salty side, and there wasn’t any issue with the texture. Not our favourite dish because the gnocchi and broccoli have stolen the spot as stars of the show. For having tried most of the small plates, my friend and I agreed on the gnocchi being our favourite, bang bang broccoli and the cauliflower too. The mushroom has not been my favourite, whilst my friend enjoyed it, to me it was definitely not how I like my mushrooms cooked/texture. As alternative for scallops and in the tacos it was definitely a let down for me. I like my veggies soft and tender and it felt more on the raw chewy side. It was impossible for me to bite in the tacos (some would argue that it is fancy enough to have sticked to the knife and fork, but it is tacos for *insert your favourite polite swearing here*)- just a personal taste. The crème brûlée divided us: my friend absolutely adored it. Too much jam on it for my taste. To conclude, experience vs a normal restaurant I would give it 3/5 But compared to other vegan establishments I have tried I’d say it is a solid contender hence the better rating despite it not being to my taste, it fairly deserve recognition!

Great concept. All vegan and carbon neutral! Really cool and innovative dishes. The vibe was also great with comfortable seating. The staff were also very kind. I was served a slightly rotten pepper with the hummus. Would still say the pros outweigh the cons!

We did the special Christmas menu and it wasn't as good at the rest of the normal menu, which was a bit disappointing. This was our first time at this location and had the other menu recently at the Barts location. The polenta and tofurkey courses could have been better seasoned. However, the service was very good. Vlad was very attentive and Alfeena always has our table clear and gave the right person the right food. Arum also very professional. Overall, the foods shortcomings on this occasion were unfortunate, especially given the EXORBITANT price. We were all a bit shocked. Also, our table was located right next to the toilets which carried a bit of an unpleasant odour; they should look into that.

Good vegan restaurant with nice bright atmosphere. Visited on Friday evening but the place was not busy. Korean tacos as an appetiser was yummy and beautifully decorated. The main course, Gnocchi, was alright - it was very filling and sauce did not have as much gorgonzola flavour as expected. Staffs were friendly and service was good.
