Stephen Sondheim Theatre

Amazing time at the Stephen Sondheim Theater. I went to see “& Juliet” - The play was fantastic, which definitely added to the overall experience. The theater itself is clean and well organized. During intermission, getting beverages was smooth, and everything seemed to work great for everyone. I was a bit disappointed they didn’t have coffee but it might have been the hour. The bathrooms were also clean and organized, the staff was super friendly. And while overall it felt a little crowded, it never felt overwhelming, a crowd it is to be expected. A great place to catch a show!

Went to see “& Juliet”. The show itself was fantastic and we had a great time. We walked out of the theater all smiles. What more can one ask for? The theater itself is easily accessible and exiting is great. No logjams like other theaters. The bathrooms were clean and accessible. My one issue: the personnel at the intermission. While buying beverages there was a theater employee in the hallway loudly shouting out: “Tip your bartenders. They both pay alimony!!!”. There was a tip jar on the counter and there was a tip section on the payment screen. Fair enough. But an employee shouting out what he did, I felt was low class and beneath the Broadway experience. Especially when he makes direct eye contact with you while shouting that out. Overall, I recommend the theater and & Juliet in particular. A+++++

Beautiful Theatre! Really neat history. I was in the top mezzanine, but that was actually street level and really easy to access! The seats were roomy and comfortable and I had a good view of the show (saw &Juliet in October 2024 - which is incredible!).

Great modernized theater and great location! The bathrooms, although small, was very efficient with an attendant directing you where to go when a stall opened. Loved the acoustic and aesthetics of the theater, and the show & Juliet is such an uplifting and fun show to see!

We visited this theater to see &Juliet and the show is fantastic but this 5 star review for the front of house staff. The staff here are extremely friendly and professional. All night they were helpful and upbeat. A special shout-out to the bathroom attendant who kept the ladies room extremely clean and the line flowing very efficiently by telling us which way to go with openings. Very impressed with this theater and staff. And we loved the show!

Great theater location. Seats in the orchestra level were amazing. If you are concerned with seeing over people in front of you they have cushions for adults and kids to help. After the show the cast came out the side door and was signing autographs.

As many other reviewers have shared, SST is the home of & Juliet and it does not disappoint! Holly K and I were able to get some last minute tix to see & Juliet and not only were the seats fabulous, but the entire experience was fabulous! The show was on a Tuesday night and we had no line to get in, a very short line at the bar to get a drink, and no problem finding our seats. Employees were friendly and the theatre was clean... There was even a bathroom attendant at intermission keeping the line moving... It's worth mentioning that the aforementioned bathroom did have a long line and the drinks at the bar were pretty expensive, but that's understandable both at NYC and at a Broadway show! The show itself was so well done and fun... I highly recommend it if you find yourself in the city with an opportunity to go... do it!

Wow "&Juliet" was such a fun show to watch! I haven't watched a musical since before covid and I was reminded of how much I had enjoyed them! I got my ticket during a sale so it was a great price. I loved how all the pop songs were incorporated into the plot so seamlessly. I heard a lot of songs from my younger days and it almost felt like a nostalgic visit to the past. Maya Boyd absolutely killed it as Juliet, during her first solo song, I literally had tears in my eyes by the time she finished singing it. She did all the songs so much justice as she always sang with such clarity and power depending on the scene. The surprise appearance by De Bois band was one of my favorite parts of the show as their performance had everyone waving their hands like it was an impromptu concert. I was seated in orchestra on the left side row N closer to the center and honestly it was a great view. Each row was one step lower than the one in front so unless someone has a super tall torso, the stage wasn't blocked at all. The restrooms were on the lounge level so it gets quite crowded during intermission and after the show. Best to go right before the show starts.

Great place! Second show I have seen here. Love that you walk right into the mezz section. Always clean. Just wish seats were more chubby friendly.

I came here to see a matinee showing of &Juliet and I was pleasantly surprised by the organization, friendliness, and design of the theatre. The staff were also really helpful and the place felt so clean! Overall, I had a wonderful and smooth experience here. The effects during the show were really well done too. Confetti, sparklers, fireworks??? Quite extravagant. Sound quality was perfect from orchestra. Even though I was LITERALLY in the last row (Row U), the view was great and the lighting made everything clear.

The Stephen Sondheim Theatre is a beautiful venue with great acoustics and comfortable seating. I recently saw "& Juliet" here, and it has quickly become one of my all-time favorite musicals! The energy, music, and performances were absolutely top-notch. The staff was friendly and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. If you're in NYC and looking for an unforgettable show, I highly recommend catching "&Juliet" at this theater!

Such a fun time seeing & Juliet at this theatre! Our seats were very comfortable with lots of leg room. The stage setting and the confetti were very cool. Definitely recommend the theatre and the show!

Happily enjoyed watching & Juliet on Broadway at the Steven Sondheim theater inNYC. I saw the 7:30 PM EST show on a Wednesday evening. I sat in row hh; seat 17 in the mezzanine section and I totally enjoyed each and every second of the play. From here, one can have a significantly pleasant view of the stage. Loved how they turned William Shakespeare's traditional play into a pop Broadway musical. Overall the vibes and twisted story plot was very modernized and super sensational. This play is a must see if you are a Broadway junkie.

This is a nice theater for buying some Mezz tickets. You don't feel cheated if you purchase some Mezzanine tickets when you come here, meaning you still get a pretty decent view and don't feel like you're looking at ants performing or that you've wasted your money staring at the back of someone's head or the over hang of the upper level. I went for the sing a long which was hosted by AJ McClean of the BSB and boy did we have a time! Sometimes the monitors were a bit delayed with the lyrics but it was fun all the same. And with certain songs, who needs the lyrics?! LOL So regarding the theatre when you walk in the mezz is on the main level. I went on a Thursday evening and had seat FF 107. The view was actually really good. To get to the orchestra level you have to go downstairs. Also, if you can get there early go to the restroom and get your drinks or memorabilia then because the intermission line is one of the longer ones I've seen. I mean the line literally wraps around and then goes up or down stairs. The seats are super close to each other, so you don't feel uncomfortably squished.

Old school theatre... could use an upgrade as the seats are a big rough. Even the elevator is slow lol. Got to see & Juliet - very good show.

5/5 This Broadway show was amazing. My friends and I enjoyed every bit of it. The music and choreography were great! I love their version of Juliet. The story was very good. It is a more modern twist. I was able to get an autograph from the actor who played William Shakespeare after the show! It was exciting to see an actor up close for the first time. He did a great job! I enjoyed watching him and everyone who was in the show. Recommended for those into early 2000s pop music and who enjoy Shakespeare.

Came here to watch & Juliet, which was AMAZING. It was my first time seeing a show in the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, and I had a great time here! The seats and stairs are a little steep, and it's kind of small compared to some of the other Broadway theaters, so definitely be careful when navigating the seats and stairs. I sat in Mezzanine GG 110. Great seat smack-dab in the center of the mezzanine area, with a great bird's eye view of the stage! At the end of the show, streamers and confetti showered the seats.

& Juliet was incredible. Confetti. Perfect sound I could hear everyone. Great lights. Friendly staff.

Just Spectacular!!! Thanks to Yelp, we all influence others with our reviews with our experiences. It is not enough to express my feelings about this show, i can write all i want, but in life certain things need to be experienced!! This is one of the shows you really must see, i am not gonna tell you all about the story. But the music, dance, choreography, stage, lights unbelievable experience. Left me in tears at the end, thats all i can say!!

We came here to see &Juliet. We sat in Mezzanine HH 101 and Mezzanine HH 102. ***LOCATION*** Sandwiched in between Broadway Ave and 6 Ave, this 43rd st. theatre is in a prime location. Thankfully the street it's on isn't too busy, so you only get the crowds from the show you're seeing. ***EXPERIENCE*** I made sure to get an aisle seat because my partner is tall. He was happy to be able to have some extra room for his legs because the seats don't provide a lot of legroom for taller folks. I'm about 5'2" and was ok, but he's 6"3' and needed that extra space. I liked being higher up because there weren't any heads blocking my view and I had a great view of the stage. I really loved the musical itself. &Juliet is a romcom about if Juliet in Romeo and Juliet doesn't kill herself after she finds Romeo dead. The songs in it are early 2000s and 2010s pop hits. We had A LOT of fun with this one. The theater itself is pretty small. ***PRICE*** They're Broadway tickets, so they're not cheap. The cheapest tickets I could find were $132 each. It was so worth it. Plus I love musical theater. ***BATHROOMS*** The bathrooms are gender neutral. The one with urinals only has four stalls, but the other one has over 30 stalls. Except during intermission, it was easy to use them. They were kept clean and well stoked. ***CONCLUSION*** This was a great theater! The seats were pretty comfortable, the show was amazing, and the staff was beyond kind. I'd highly recommend watching &Juliet if you're looking for a Broadway show!

If you're depressed and looking for an immediate pick-me-upper, look no further! & Juliette is a perfect show for you. So much joy and laughter, your face will hurt by the end of the performance. Truly, a marvelous production that will uplift you to the moon and back. This collection of modern musical pop hits will make you dance and shinny in your seat, so get ready for the happiest night of your week. Mezz DD 118-119 were perfect seats to enjoy the magic of the performance.

Wow wow wow what a spectacular Broadway show. I cried (I'm a big baby) lol. The show, the song choices , the theme and moral of the show and lastly seeing my good friend live out her dreams . I was overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude to just be there . Rachel Webb who now stars as Juliet is a good friend of mine since our highschool days. She always loved to perform, and we also attended a theatre scholarship together back in high school. We always stayed connected, and she said I must come see her perform . Rachel blessed me with a few tickets to tonight's show in which I was HONORED. I sang all the songs word for word (millennial) lol and it brought me great joy. The actors and actresses did a wonderful job . I was so proud to see my school mate and friend up there in bright lights, living her dreams . I still have a huge love for theatre although I went the dental route lol, theatre will always hold a special place in my heart . I won't give anything away, but the show is a must see if you can . The theatre was sold out and packed . What a wonderful night thanks to my friend Rachel. I will definitely be coming back to see her perform.

Went to see & Juliet, first time in NYC and first time seeing a broadway show. it was soooooo good. I hope it comes to Houston, I would definitely see it again. The theater was cool. It kinda reminded me of the Majestic theatre a bit which is located in San Antonio, TX but smaller. I liked how pretty much every seat in the house had a great view and the acoustics were awesome as well. The staff were really nice and accommodating but my only complaint is that the seats are not made for thicker people. It was kinda tight and then sitting next to another person who is also thick doesn't help so our legs were touching the whole time pretty much. I know they can't do much about the seats but that was the only negative. Overall enjoyed my experience and the show.

Nice theater with bigger than typical Broadway seats. Line to check in moved fast and so did lines for the bathroom. &Juliet was a great performance, loved the music. Of course the food and drink (half a can of ginger ale and peanut m&ms were $15) are terribly over priced but that's typical for Broadway. Pro tip- bring a reusable water bottle and fill up at the water fountain. I've been doing this for shows bc it will save you $11. Also, it's easy to pack some snacks in your purse zipper (I brought pirate booty, cookies, and chocolate). Just make sure it's not easy to see or put it in a make up bag. Hey, a girls gotta snack!

This theater is more modern and updated compared to others in the city. The seats are pretty roomy and comfortable and the bathrooms are larger than lots of other theaters. Another major difference is the orchestra level seating is located below the street level so you have to go down stairs to reach, while the mezzanine is on the street level. Overall a comfortable experience. I had tickets to the new show "& Juliet". This was EXCELLENT!!!! Very polished for a new opening. This story is a alternative look at what happens to Juliet from Romeo & Juliet, if she didn't die. Told using pop music hits to convey the story. So clever, and funny. The singing and performances and dancing were awesome! Full of energy!

Originally the Henry Miller's Theatre built in 1918 and now managed by the Roundabout Theatre Company, the modern 1,055-seat theater opened in 2009 at the base of the Bank of America Tower. Very modern compared to the other Broadway theaters. Saw & Juliet there , a truly brilliant musical.

We saw & Juliet here and both the venue and musical exceeded our expectations. This theater is larger than most NY theaters, modern and spacious. Our seats were in the Orchestra section, Row N. There was plenty of leg room and the seats were spacious. There were so many bathrooms and before and after the performance there was no line. The theater was renovated several years ago and definitely thought was put into it . I found out the theater was designed to meet green standards. Overall, one of the better theaters in NY.

Beautiful theatre with mostly friendly staff. Clearly you pick a theatre based on the show you want to see, but I'm always happy to go back to this theatre. Very large restrooms are nice, but due to the gender neutral restrooms and lack of urinal only line, my friend couldn't get in and out during intermission as he'd have liked.

The musical was awesome the singing was better than some artist today signed to record labels. They can actually sing no fine tuning the main star Juliet voice is amazing, seats are not tight like other theaters

We saw & Juliet here this week. It was our first time at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. We had great seats, fifth row center. The theatre could seriously use a renovation. The seats are worn out and there's only one bathroom for men and one for women. Ladies, I strongly advise not drinking the day of the show! Alas, we don't consider the quality of the theater when selecting a Broadway play to see so it is what it is.

We came to Mrs. Doubtfire for our first time on Broadway and it far exceeded our expectations. I am not a theatre fan and was coming for the experience, but maybe I am a Broadway fan if not a theatre fan. The production quality was insane. Like I could not believe just how great everything looked, the interesting sets and how versatile they were. The theatre itself was great overall, however a big issue is the size of the seats. I am a bigger dude and I absolutely did not fit in the seats. The staff was helpful in accommodating me with a different seat that didn't have arm rests. That said, maybe plan for this if you're a bigger person as I would have been so uncomfortable if I had stayed in my original seat. The cast was incredible. I was seriously amazed at the complexity of the characters, the music and singing were awesome, the dialogue and everything were fun and engaging. I can think of a song or two that were wrapped up a little strangely to me, but those times don't really stand out in my memory. I was so happy with my experience here, and it made me want to see more stuff on Broadway. We talked about the show for a long time afterwards. I'd be glad to see it again.

Comfortable and modern, if a little utilitarian. It was renovated this century, so there's decent legroom and pretty comfortable seats by Broadway standards. The public areas actually have enough space to move around without jostling. I typically like to sit in the mezzanine anyway just to get a better view of the flow of a show, and it's particularly advantageous here. The street-level entrance leads right into the back of the mezzanine, so if you are sitting in that section, it's easy to exit. Sitting in the orchestra here would involve going down a level and then back up to get out, so it's the opposite layout of most Broadway theaters.

Finally made it with my girls to see & Juliet! Bought box seats on the side of the stage which were the same price of mezzanine seats as I think the purchase was worth it. The right side of the stage was a bit obstructed if you don't lean over but you still see 95% of the stage. Getting to the seats was a bit complicated as we were directed down towards orchestra level even though our seats were not orchestra but luckily there were kind, helpful ushers that could guide us to our seats. Bathrooms and a bar were on our level which was a big plus! The show itself was phenomenal and the music was well known which made it the perfect soundtrack!

Hands down the most comfortable Broadway theatre in the city. The over 100 year old theatre has been renovated and includes comfy deep seats that have plenty of room. I overheard the usher say that it's the Broadway theatre with the most bathrooms- 25 stalls. I sat in the mezzanine and my seats were awesome. I feel like it's a place where there's not a bad seat in the house!

The theater is conveniently located with two parking garages across the street that you can reserve a space in. Several restaurants also surround it. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would come here again.

We went here to see Mrs. Doubtfire and had nonstop laughter at the production. This theater is laid out strangely as you have to walk downstairs to get to it, many stairs. What I didn't like about it was that there was no drinks for sale at all during the intermission, which is just ludicrous. We had seats in the orchestra section and the sound in view was quite good. The restrooms are a good size.

The seats were so uncomfortable and my legs were cramping. I am an average size person and have never felt so much pain in my hips and legs after cramming my body into those seats . I left at intermission and did not return. It's 2023....how about some upgrades.

This is a nice small theater located in the heart of Times Square. We were staying just a few blocks away so it was convenient to walk from our hotel. First I got a discount code from Nytix and then I used the code to get awesome seats for Beautiful- the Carole King story - which was amazing!! We had 2nd row up in the mezzanine and the seats were perfect. The cast of Beautiful is amazing and so talented. That was a real treat.

We saw "Beautiful" here last week. It was wonderful! Classy and uplifting. Great music and acting. I saw the play last year in London and told my husband about it. We were able to get tickets that morning with an aisle seat for my tall man. We recognized Adam Dietlein and Ben Jacoby from performances in Utah. Thanks for providing this entertaining production.

The show Beautiful was very enjoyable. We took my mom who celebrated her 80th birthday. She was singing and rocking to the songs right along with the rest of us. Even my husband and brother stayed awake for the entire show. The theater was very nice and we had the best seats in the house, first row center Mezzanine. The bathroom line during intermission went quickly because they had over 30 stalls with an attendant assisting the flow quick effectively. Tip: Bring your own water because a small bottle cost $10

I came here to this theater a couple of weeks ago to watch Beautiful the Carole King musical. This theater is located next to a restaurant that has a very pretty storefront with a pictureeaque walkway decorated with lights. Compared to the other theaters I felt that the seating was more crammed as there was less legroom. (Might also have just felt more crammed because of heavier coats and jackets.) The lines in the bathroom were organize very well as there were staff directing the flow of traffic. Overall it is a great theater, very clean and well managed.

We watched the Broadway play Beautiful. The play itself was entertaining, lovely and worth every second of my time. The theater is conveniently located in the heart of Times Square. It was a birthday gift to my girlfriend and I got the best seat for us. I was not disappointed- nice seating, roomy and with a center viewing. The bathroom is descent in size. It's the performances, the stage, the lights and the music that made the viewing pleasurable. But the most memorable experience was the appearance of Carole King herself on stage at the end of the show. That was the most amazing moment to all even to the cast. Superb show.

Staff was great. Theater was clean. The seats are so close. our knees are directing above the tips of your toes. There is zero room between seats.

As the newest of all the Broadway theaters we were deeply disappointed at their lack of transparency and communication for accessibility. We had questions about our seats and needed basic assistance on locating accessible bathrooms, etc. We arrived approximately one hour early before doors to provide them enough time to assist as we understand they are busy and other local theaters were able to assist us with an early arrival. Approximately 8 (yes, 8) different staff members knew we were waiting for assistance and were 100% aware of our needs. We were told repeatedly someone would be coming soon to assist us. After waiting awkwardly in a chair in the lobby for over an hour, despite being told "someone was coming" - I knew something wasn't right. It was 10-minutes until the show. I plowed through some security lines, undoubtedly irritating them - as I wasn't convinced anyone was actually coming for us - and I told a 9th person we weren't waiting any longer and we were NOT missing the show. Shocker: no one was coming for us. When the manager came out, she informed us no one contacted her. It was deeply upsetting. Its 2019 and I want the Sondheim to be better. One suggestion would be for them to put a form on their website where people can alert you beforehand and you can then have time to communicate with staff about assistance. For us over-communicating with 8 different people, someone on the staff should have known. For a theater that says they are accessible, they should consider evaluating their practice. I have to be honest to prevent future troubles for people living with temporary or permanent disabilities. My heart aches here for wheelchair users or people using walking aids in this venue.

This is a review for the theatre itself and the current show, Mrs. Doubtfire... This is my first time to this theatre and i have to say the seats are on the roomier side of most broadway theatre seats. As you enter into the theatre at the ground floor, you are at the high end of the mezzanine. The seats are sloped down deep so you will not have obstructed view of people in front of you that are ---tall people, people with beehive hairdos and people who wear their hat and keep their hat on thru the entire show... also the temperature of the theatre was ok. i was a bit concernred about this since i do overheat with my mask on. i wore a short sleeve tshirt and temp was perfect (for reference outside temp was around 50 F). Also the theatre itself is small so any seat i feel you will have optimal viewing. we were in row EE in the right corner near aisle and viewing was perfect. The covid check was smooth/organized and did not increase the time it takes to get into the theatre. staff were already checking as you're in line on the streeet so that once you're at the entrance it is just the traditional bag/ticket check and you're in. also, if you're coming from PENN station, this is the closest theatre (43rd st) to Penn that i have been, easy 10-13 minute walk. And finally, the theatre was ALL FULL and happy to have good ol' broadway back! now on to the show, Mrs. Doubtfire...i'd say the first 10 minutes was a bit mild but thereafter it was eye opening, funny (belly laugh), exciting and amazing/awesome right to the end!! The set is simple and for the most part did not change much. 100% of the entertainment is from the actors/actresses and the cleaver and creative production/producers. You fall in love with all of the characters and they all did an amazing job. but i Just have to say that the main character, Mrs. Doubtfire played by Rob McClure was simply outstanding. he was literally like a one man show and he really brought out the real true essence of Mrs. Doubtfire! watching this show brought back so many memories for me...about the 90's era, about the sad loss of Robin Williams and just so many things etc. anyways an EXCELLENT EXCELLENT show. was not expecting it to be so so good but it was. Hope this show will continue for many many years to come...

Last night, we went to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre to see the Carole King musical "Beautiful". The line outside went amazingly fast as they take guests into 2 doors with 2 ticket takers at the same time. We had Orchestra seating which was amazing. The seating was comfortable. The restrooms were very clean. The stage, lighting, music and complete production here was all top notch. In all, this was a great theatre with great processes that made theatre-going easy and fun.

I recently went to see Slava's Snow Show here, which returned to Broadway for a limited time after an earlier run a decade ago. This theater is a smaller theater with only an orchestra and a mezzanine section. As a result, most of the seats offer a good view. We sat on the very far right about halfway back in the orchestra section and had a completely unobstructed view. It is also well maintained and very clean inside. A very nice theater if you happen to see a Broadway show here.

I liked this theater a lot - one of the newer houses on Broadway. The theater itself is a rathskeller design -- so you enter at mezzanine level and descend two stories to the orchestra. The facilities - including coat check and lounge - are nestled between the two. Seating throughout is comfortable and views from virtually every orchestra seat are terrific. Once again TDF hit it out of the park wIth center orchestra seats a mere 7 rows from the stage. The show involved intricate mime work -- so seeing the actors up close and personal made a huge difference. The "facilities" were spotless and easily accessible. The clean lines and modern decor made it easy on the eyes. Top Tip: The Sondheim is in Times Square -- so plan accordingly when it comes to transportation, dining and parking -- especially during the holidays.

Another theater another review. I've seen a lot of shows and each at a different theater! This time it was my daughters pick of Anything Goes. Good choice. Lots of music, singing and dancing. My favorite priorities in a show! She really wanted to see Sutton Foster. My daughter did not mind that Joel Grey did not perform at this show. I was a little disappointed. As long as the kid is happy I'm happy! This show was my daughters birthday gift 2011. It was the usual theater experience. I read in the reviews that people have issues with the bathrooms in these old theaters. They are limited. I learned from the jump to go at the restaurant before I get to the theater. Here's another theater goer trick. Eat before you go! No one wants to hear your growling stomach during the performance......

What a great modern theatre . The seats are well spaced and quite comfortable. Plenty of leg room for my 6'5" body. The ushers were super friendly, answered all my questions about the theatre. The show itself was spectacular I saw Beautiful the Carole King musical. Melissa Benoist was playing the lead of Carole King and she was fantastic. She has a great voice for the theatre. The rest of the cast were fantastic. The set was done rather well also. If a Carole King fan a must of a show.

The Stephen Sondheim Theatre is a solid, comfortable, and classic little theatre that you'd expect when you visit for a performance. The seats are comfortable and the way it's designed, I swear there's basically no bad seat in the house. The facilities are clean and easy to find and access and it's super easy to find this theatre off of Times Square as well and near public transportation. 11/10.

Great acoustics for Beautiful. Comfy seats. Awesome restroom facilities -short wait. Highly recommended!
