I’ve been to Ditto’s several times and always enjoyed it, so Stevens Deli was next up. They have a good selection of sandwich options, and I went with the pastrami reuben and chicken salad. Both were tasty. There’s a number of other sandwiches so I’ll come back to try them. I got my order for takeout and the service was fast.

The soups and the sandwiches here are excellent. They can prepare them just about any way you want. The pastrami had a very good flavor. It did have a bit more fat than I expected though but still tasty. The matzo ball soup is quite possibly the best I have experienced in many years. It was 3”-4” in diameter and had just the right consistency. Not too hard or too soft and held together well. The broth had an excellent flavor and was very rich, not thin like many I have tasted. lots of chicken flavor. Service was excellent and it takes a few minutes to get your sandwich, but they do it right. I also tried a couple of the cookies which are also made in house and they were also very tasty and flavorful. If you’re looking for a great sandwich place this is it don’t go any further!

Google
There is a sign by the cash register that says order here. I might be stupid, but that’s what I did. I was actually supposed to order at the other end of the counter and pay at the register. The staff let me know that I was clearly not mentally equipped to order a sandwich, but did fix my mistake and feed me. The Reuben was average. There are several places in town that make a better one. I will never go here again.

Google
i LOVE Steven’s. Everything I’ve gotten on the menu has been fantastic. Most recently the John & Marla has been my favorite. Every soup i’ve tried has been the new best soup I’ve ever had. The garlic potato soup of the day was my introduction to Steven’s, and now I will spend the rest of my life chasing after that Soup of the Day. Please i need it again. The Chicken Noodle was also fire, the Potato Salad was the best i’ve ever had, and i LOVE the Dr. Brown’s Cream Soda. I bought 5 extra to bring home. The seating in Ditto’s is super cute, and all the employees are super nice. COZY lunch spot.

Google
Great food and people! My husband had been before but I had never been. We each ordered a side of the Tortellini Pasta Salad and a Half SoHo and Half Pastrami Reuben. 10/10 will return!

Google
One of the best places in Louisville to grab a sandwich. Some of the best pasta/salads out there as well and solid cookies/drink options to boot. Prices are reasonable, service is always great.

Google
I am a sucker for a good BLT. I was told by a friend of mine that Stevens and Stevens had the best one. It didn’t disappoint. I also got the crazy slaw. Also don’t forget your first time coming in you get a free cookie.! 😂 I thought that was pretty awesome. I will say the BLT was perfect. Looking forward to trying more sandwiches. Customer service is great and I love the vibe of this old place. The deli is located in the back of the building of Dittos.

Google
I travel for business and try to find little joints off the beaten path. I found a gem with this place. The pastrami was super delicious and a the matzo ball soup reminded me of my Bubbie’s! The staff joked around with me and felt very comfortable to be around. Definitely a must try. I’ll be back!

Yelp
The closest you can get to a New York deli in a zip code starting with 4. I love this place, I've always loved this place even though I haven't been here for a while. Today it was the Pastrami Reuben and Matzo Ball soup (who knew it was called the Jewish penicillin?) and both were great. The Tuna Melt is excellent and so are the fresh fruit & cookies. The only drawback is you're paying New York prices, my sandwich & soup was almost $24.00, I drank an ice water.
google avatar

Jane R.

Yelp
What a cute Jewish deli! I had a you turkey me Jane (my name of course) and half the tomato alfresco. I did think the pasta had too much sauce though. And I didn't realize it was in the same place as Ditto's grill lol.
google avatar

Sherri B.

Yelp
Good sandwiches. Similar to NYC deli feel. Always a decent meal. Check it out for yourself.

Yelp
Skip the matzo ball soup and get a whole pastrami sandwich! The good: -Pastrami sandwich was delish -good customer service -plenty of seating -decent price -quick service The bad: Only one thing really, the matzo ball soup. The soup was on the low side of mediocre but the matzo ball was lacking in flavor and I ate a few bites before giving up. Despite how good it was it lacked flavor. I'd come back and try other sandwiches but I don't think I'd try a soup again.

Yelp
We've liked this place for many years. I get grilled cheese sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies. The cheese is gooey and delicious. It's a fun, casual deli with pictures of famous actors on the wall. Service is good too--no complaints!
google avatar

Yelp
Had a great experience. The sandwich, atmosphere, and team was low-key and great. We'll be back.

Yelp
Louisville's perfect deli lunch spot! Stevens & Stevens Deli is just the perfect deli! After you have the BLT. I don't know how you'll want to try anything else! This is just the perfect lunch spot! You can't go wrong with anything. All the sandwich are generous in portions! They want wonderful sides if you need a bigger lunch. If you need a treat, they have several amazing sweets as well. My favorite cookie is the butterscotch cookie. My favorite cookie is the chocolate chip cookie. My favorite cookie is the oatmeal cookie. Ok. They are all my favorite cookies and taste like I make a home! They have an amazing mushroom soup! You will find some free parking adjacent to the building and a free small parking lot behind the building which is shared with Ditto's. When it's busy, you might have to search for some parking on the surrounding streets

John G.

Yelp
I love the big John sandwich, corn, beef, and pastrami on two sides and it's so big that I take home went home for a nighttime snack. I was also excited to learn that the big John was named after a local celebrity who survived a gunshot wound over his advocacy of healthy air, water, and soil in Louisville. Period he has learned to thrive and has written eight books and is starring on a forthcoming movie.http://www.climateofhopefilm.org

Yelp
I am a connoisseur of deli's. Sandwiches' are just my thing. You can't beat a good ham and cheese on rye. The fact that unless you're in NY it's almost impossible to find a good deli in this world of Jimmy John's and Subways just kills me. Stevens Deli is the rare exception in this world of wanna be sandwich shops. They are the classic deli, with fresh meats, sides and typical deli attitude. And the prices are absolutely amazing! I would give my left arm to have this place in a town in which I live, but unfortunately it's several states over from me. My loss is your gain. Hit this place up, and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Phenomenal. Great sandwiches. The ingredients on my veggie sandwich were all very fresh. The scallion cream cheese had the perfect flavor. Their chocolate chip cookie was great. I've been thinking about it since I had it a week or so ago.
google avatar

Tina S.

Yelp
The food was very good and service was quick and efficient. Parking is a little bit difficult at peak times.
google avatar

Ray S.

Yelp
Great food, service, and selection. Been a customer for years and this review is long overdue. The BLT is fabulous along with Pastrami, Corned Beef, and I could go on and on. Great selection of cold pasta dishes and the homemade cookies are fabulous.
google avatar

Yelp
I promised myself I would stop by and get a New York deli lunch. I was not disappointed the pick two deal was a great choice half a pastrami Reuben sandwich and a bowl of matzo ball soup. Such a perfect pairing. Parking is a pain at lunchtime but worth the effort. Do yourself a favor so many choices stop by and give them a try.

Tori S.

Yelp
The sandwiches were very delicious. The pasta salad was mediocre at best. The restaurant itself is small, but they have mastered a solid deli vibe.
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
I am always looking for a good deli. We recently visited Stevens and had a corned beef sandwich, a pastrami reuben, matzah ball soup and potato salad. Everything was fresh and I can't wait to go back. Parking was a little sparse but not impossible. Dan D

Yelp
I was hoping to find a good deli in the area so I wouldn't miss my Houston favorite, Kenny & Ziggys. Steven's & Steven's came darn close. An above average deli. My friend had a John & Marla Casual Stroll which is a lengthy way to say, turkey, bacon & cheese sandwich. I had the Phantom of the Opera. A fancy name for pastrami & chopped liver with cheese on rye. S&S is big into adding cheese to sandwiches which is not really done in most delis. The pastrami was thick cut (I prefer sliced thin) but with good flavor. And the chopped liver was a bit bland. Still, try to find this delight at Subway . One orders from the counter and your food is brought to your table. Some sandwiches come with a pickle, some don't. No rhyme or reason. Want slaw? It's an additional side. Chips? Yes. Fries? Uh uh. There's a cooler with Dr. Brown's. So that's a plus for the deli purist. All in all, a solid deli, right here in Louisville.

Yelp
Staff, food, and 5 star experience! Traveling from Texas stopped to have a world famous Ruben! Try it! You won't be disappointed! Size matters, and let me tell you they are BIG! Be ready to eat! Overall experience was heavenly!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious! Would be back in a heartbeat. Food was great, service was fast. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered.
google avatar

Yelp
They're famous cookies are no longer the same. I bought seven of them the other day $14 and we've still got five of them two weeks later normallyeaten 2 or three days.
google avatar

Ruth D.

Yelp
Delicious! Order and pay at a counter and sit where you like. Food is ready super quick! Decently cheap and good portions. There's a small parking area behind the building. Super chill place, will definitely go back to try more!

Yelp
Several decades ago, the Courier Journal determined that "The Goldrush," cookie was the 2nd best chocolate chip cookie in Louisville. ( the best for the money!) Over the years, I've always stopped to pick-up a dozen to take to gatherings. I stopped for a dozen this past week. Sometime within the last year, they must have changed their chocolate chip cookie recipe. They're NOT as good. NOT EVEN CLOSE! Please bring back the origina.l. cookie!
google avatar

Yelp
Overpriced food, bland soup, sandwich lacking, & too sweet cookie. I typically prefer almost any sandwhich shop over the chain that used to promote a $5 foot long, but not in this case. It was odd coming in for the first time, not being greeted or given any instruction as to where to go or how to order.

Iyonia B.

Yelp
I went in today 9/3/24 and I got the soup of the day which was roasted garlic and chicken soup (or something like that). It was absolutely fantastic! Whoever is in the back making the soups needs a raise haha! It was the perfect consistency, perfectly seasoned, and they separated the spinach so it wouldn't get mushy. I've been coming here for years and they just don't miss.. especially with the soup specials. Oh yeah and I got the Isabella Tortellini which in my opinion is their best cold pasta.

Deanna U.

Yelp
Quite possibly the saddest little sandwich I've ever met, any deli that serves bread this bad is not worth a second try. The chicken soup was really good though, i would order that again. The tiny sliver of pickle I got that leaked all over my sandwich was delicious. It was packaged entirely in styrofoam. I'm from NY so this was rough . Really great service and a $2.00 cookie.

Yelp
A local fave! My sister and I came to check this place out for lunch on Friday. It was around 1:30 so we had come past the lunch rush. Entrance is at the side and so are a few parking spots. We parked parallel on the side of Dragon Kong's though. We both did pick 2. I got Mr. Ziegfeld, which is a Reuben, with the tomatoes al fresco pasta salad. Its a good deal for under $10 and is filling! Reubens are made better above the Mason Dixon, but this was decent. I've had better but it still tasted fresh. The pasta salad was fantastic! It's a plus to have this as an option for a side. My sister got pick 2 as well. She got the Fog Horn Leg Horn, grilled chicken with tomato, pesto, and pesto. She also had the Gloria pasta salad. She had Dr. Brown's cream soda which is a must-try here. She enjoyed it while I had sweet tea. It was too light and barely sweet... You get a free cookie if you're a first-timer. I got chocolate chip with pecans while my sister got Gold Rush, which is a regular chocolate chip. They are absolutely perfect as they are crunchy on the edges while soft in the middle. Staff was friendly and smiley. I'd come back again to try other stuff!

Yelp
THE place to have lunch if you're even remotely close to the highlands. I stop every time I'm in Louisville at the appropriate times. I even take friends and family there when in town to visit. Sandwiches are loaded with meat. Always fresh and tasty! The pasta salad and the soups, oh my gosh the soups! Phenomenal! Get there! Ps. Service and Ambiance are on point too!

Yelp
Hidden in the back of Ditto's Grill sits a traditional NY Jewish deli with all of your old school deli favorites: lox, matzo ball soup, and all of your sandwich cravings. We shared two of the Reuben options to see which we preferred: Mr Ziegfield (corned beef) and Bill's Brooklyn (pastrami). We both liked the flavor of the pastrami more than the corned beef but the meat was a little fattier than the other, and both sandwiches could've used more dressing. Also, as first timers we each got a free cookie! We went with oatmeal raisin and the gold rush (chocolate chip) with pecans; both were delicious. I'll definitely be back, but I'll go with one of their other sandwich options.

Hollis R.

Yelp
This place has a nasty habit of yelling at and kicking out elderly and disabled patrons. My friend ordered 2 sandwiches. The cashier rang up only one. When my(socially disabled) friend asked about the other sandwich, the cashier accused her of trying to steal it. She offered to pay for it and they kicked her out without her food!! I've heard from ex employees that this is a long-standing habit of theirs. Also, the owner lady is generally very rude. DO NOT GO IF YOU STRUGGLE WITH A DISABILITY or care about those who do.
google avatar

Caleb P.

Yelp
Portions were smaller than I envisioned though food was amazing, customer service outstanding, and prices were reasonable. I plan to visit sometime again and would recommend others do the same when you're in the mood for a good sandwich and soup/salad combo.
google avatar

Erin C.

Yelp
My FAVORITE lunch spot in louisville!! They have such a variety. The sandwiches never miss. They have a daily soup and then rotating soups. Plenty of different pasta salad options. It's soo good!! Quick and easy. It's a smaller place, so it can get crowded. But it's a local small business and it always feels good to support them.
google avatar

Yelp
As far as "New York" Style Deli/Sandwich, this is pretty good for Louisville. Have never been disappointed. I love Ruben type Sandwiches and I do enjoy coming here. The prices are reasonable, portions are generous and while it's not New York, it's very good. I remember back from in the mid 80s that the drink to have with deli food is Dr Brown's Cel-Ray Soda(brings out the flavors of the sandwich). Look also at picture I posted from my recent "Checkin" When I ordered "Mr Ziegfeld" a traditional Rueben with extra "meat" for $2.00 more; worth it even if you eat half and take other home. Look at the pictures and you be the judge!
google avatar

Yelp
Stevens and Stevens deli is absolutely, positively the best spot in town to grab a corned beef or pastrami sandwich. I've been waiting forever to eat here and with Ali's return we finally got to chow down. We ended up ordering a couple of different sandwiches. Ali got the corned beef with onions and honey mustard and I got the Spielberg (pastrami, turkey, kraut and honey mustard). I'm not usually one for savory and sweet profiles but this sandwich hit the mark. I can't wait to go back and try all of the menu! The restaurant is shared with Dittos Grill and parking is very tight. I drive a Jeep and it was super tight, guess we'll be walking here next time! Pro tip, get the brewed tea, unlimited refills.
google avatar

Hannah U.

Yelp
My favorite lunch always involves a soup, sandwich, salad or a combo. This place has SO many yummy options. My go-to on the menu is the Caesar salad - it has roasted red peppers, toasted almonds, fresh Parmesan and the BEST croutons. If you're looking for a delicious and fresh option for lunch, this is the place!

Yelp
A blast from the past. You ever have one of those places that just screams at you from years gone by? Ditto's is that place for me. In the back of that restaurant sits its deli counterpart that holds a slightly less special spot in my mind's eye. Not because it's not great, but only because delis that close in the early afternoon don't produce the same type of memories that a frequented night haunt do. And, back in the day before hipsters *discovered* the Highlands or were even born or a forethought, Ditto's was the place for dinner and drinks. I lived close by back then, and this was a regular spot for my friends and me. Stevens and Stevens is the older brother that goes to bed a bit earlier, but makes a mean sandwich. I always liked coming here for lunch. They have been around for years, and are well established. Louisville doesn't have many delis. It's always been that way, and it's just not our thing. If we do have delis, they aren't as likely to serve what Stevens and Stevens does. I remember trying my first cup of matzo ball soup here. You can't beat their soups, sandwiches, and sides, and they have very little in the way of competition. I hadn't been in over ten years, when I decided to make my way here for any sandwich involving pastrami. Well, I came to the right place. I walked in within an hour of closing, which was nice since I had my choice of seating. I ordered half of an 80th & Broadway and a side of potato salad. The 80th & Broadway comes with hot pastrami, grilled onions, crazy Chinese slaw, provolone, and Honeycup mustard all on toasted challah. It is delicious. I love the contrast between the pastrami and the sweetness of the slaw and honey mustard. The potato salad was also very good. It's of the mustard variety and has a slight sweet flavor as well. All of the staff were super friendly. My food didn't take long either. The prices are definitely competitive and a nice lunch value. The inside was also clean. The only negative can be parking, but when I came, I found a spot right be the door. Making this trip back to Stevens and Stevens makes me want to revisit Ditto's. Nothing but good times and memories there.

Sarah M.

Yelp
They've reduced their menu- took away 1/2 their options. They no longer sell or serve chopped liver. Staff extremely ruse when we asked about it. Now it's just another deli and definitely lost quality. We will not return.

Yelp
This is An authentic New York-type deli that has been in this location for around 26 years. The Atmosphere is cozy and the decorations are decidedly "Hollywood-esque" only in terms of the actors depicted on the walls. It does not have the glitz and glamor nor does it portray to want that type of vibe. It exudes more the old New York theatre scene in its decorations. All of the sides and salads are freshly-made and the food taste amazing. Normally, small, sandwich shops like this one will offer a small menu where only a few selections are outstanding. However, this shop offers a huge variety of sandwiches and almost everything tastes stupendous. The great-tasting food is a main reason the business has lasted such a long time. The friendly workers and quick service are some other reasons. Check out this hidden gem on Bardstown Rd.

Yelp
Some really marvelous sandwiches and salads. Kitschy atmosphere and fun vibe. Good corned beef, good pastrami, good all around!

Russell L.

Yelp
the pastrami sandwich was dry, the French drip sandwich meat was full of fat and grizzle. the only thing good was the jalapeño corn chowder
google avatar

Mark A.

Yelp
What a great sandwich shop! If you didn't know where to find it, you'd miss it tucked away off the street. This is a locals 'go-to' spot and even a line during covid won't stop the demand. I got the pick 2 with a mark's special and pasta. Everything was spot on with the flavor of the meat and the side was excellent as well. Just a great overall experience.

Steve M.

Yelp
Sandwiches are premade - so no customization. The food was pretty good. The staff was very good! Funky joint
google avatar

Ashley E.

Yelp
Old style Jewish deli- get your pastrami on rye, matzo ball soup, lox or a dozen other classics. A pick two is always my go to. Chicken noodle soup adding a matzo ball and a sandwich, salad or pasta side depending on my mood. Today was a rainy winter day so a hot sandwich and soup was the way to go!

Will D.

Yelp
Best deli in town. Only place to get hot pastrami and corned beef. While you're there feel free to try the soups and cookies
google avatar

Paul E.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken capri and Shirley's potato salad. They were both really great and came out quick after being ordered. The menu itself was huge and there was really something for everyone. Unfortunately, as we got up to leave we saw a cockroach crawling up the wall behind our table. That turned this from a 5 star review to the 1 star. We informed the young lady who was running the cash register, so hopefully this is something that is solved.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
It's not in the same league as Katz's in NYC and you can't get a knish like you can at Izzy's in Cincinnati. But it deserves 5 stars as they have the best sandwiches in Louisville. You can't get better corned beef, pastrami or lox anywhere in town and they are incredibly accommodating, gladly subbing arugula for lettuce or swiss for cheddar or adding another tub of horseradish sauce.

Vicente D.

Yelp
Freshest most authentic Deli I've been to outside NY or Chicago.Only thing better than their sandwiches Ames their Soups!!!

MJ G.

Yelp
Friendly staff, good food. The garlic chicken soup had great flavor. Always a favorite to go to when we are in The Highlands.
google avatar

Kearstin R.

Yelp
My coworkers order from here frequently. I usually don't order lunch, but decided this time. So glad I did. Everyone said that all of the options they have tried have been delish. I opted for a pick 2 with a Stevens salad and pimento cheese sandwich on pumpernickel bread. The sandwich comes with lettice and tomato. The pimento cheese filling was so full of flavor. Everything blended so well together that I couldn't imagine ordering anything else. The salad was pretty big for a half portion. Full of fresh crisp apples. The salad itself was vibrant, crunchy, sweet, tart. Very good. Definitely a must try for a light lunch if you're in the area.

Yelp
First off let me state that this is thee best deli in Louisville! This is not up for discussion. I've been coming to Stevens & Stevens for over 10 years. I don't know why it has taken me forever to review this deli since I have been coming here countless times. First let's start with deserts since it's the first thing you will run into once you enter the deli. I've had the chocolate chip cookies, lemon bars and brownies and all have been AMAZING!!! Like melt in your mouth, make you wanna moan AMAZING! Now the deli....my go to is pick 2 where you get a choice of a sandwich/salad/soup/pasta. My go to for the summer time is the chicken Caesar salad with a side pasta (pictured is the Isabella tortellini). It's probably the best Caesar salad that I've had it comes with saved almonds, roasted red pepper, croutons, thee best Caesar dressing in the world. In the winter I go with the chicken noodle soup and a sandwich. My favorite thing about Stevens & Stevens how consistent everything always is, they never disappoint.

J S.

Yelp
This place used to be a gem. Since they changed their menu and their attitude it's all gone down hill. The owners son is a prick, asked about a former menu item and was scoffed at. I wouldn't pay NYC prices for this bs anyway. Went to Morris' Deli instead
