10 Delicious Things to Eat at Downtown LA’s Grand Central Market | Eater LA

"With a tight menu of Thai street‑food classics, Sticky Rice might be the most well‑rounded stall in the market: while khao soi would normally be my pick, the gai yang (grilled chicken) has wider appeal — a tender grilled thigh with heavy grill marks served with a sweet‑tangy sauce and the stall’s namesake rice. A side of papaya salad keeps every bite fresh and provides a fish‑sauce punch whenever the chicken starts tasting monotonous." - Eater Staff

We went and dined in on a Monday evening and loved the silent atmosphere. No other customers but us and we enjoyed every moment. The food was delicious. We ordered Thai boat, braised pork and papaya. Thai boat is on the less sodium & less sweet side, but that's fine with me due to HBP. The braised pork was loved by my husband so much, that he wanted to try and replicate it at home. And the papaya...I don't know who's complaining, but it sure ain't me. It met me and my husband's standards, maybe even exceeded our expectations. So people, before you rely on others review, please go and try it out and experience first-hand before you start shaking your heads.

Heard the hype, got some papaya salad, pork belly, sausage and chicken leg quarter, had it delivered and was disappointed. The chicken leg quarter and pork belly looks like it was cooked in old oil. Chicken had a hard spot like it had been dried out while raw then cooked. Sausage burnt on one side, papaya salad has zero taste just a sour and padak. At least the sticky rice was good.

The food my mother and I had was excellent. The braised pork was delicious, and the dish whose name escapes me was equally as tasty. I also got a honeydew smoothie, which I enjoyed. Server was very friendly and helped us decide on a meal, and also let us try a sugarcane drink.

Laab was amazing. Our server Nick did an amazing job attending to our needs. We order regular food and did all you can eat hotpot. Definitely loved the thum yum flavor! Can't wait to go back.

Worst Thai Boat ever. Taste like a Kung Fu noodle broth. Took them 30 minutes to get my food out and there was only 1 other person in the store. On top of that I seen the guy in the back packing food in a bag and another guy is tasting it before he bags it in a to go bag. TERRIBLE. NEVER GOING AGAIN

Google
The first 2 times I came here for the thai boat was phenomenal. The last few times I went in and today the thai boat taste like pho only. Hardly any pigs blood in the broth. Idk if I should go back because I think the guy owner makes it good only. I hope they teach everyone who cooks to make it correctly like the guy owner.

Food is great but need to be faster. I was the only one in the restaurant. It took them 25 minutes to make a small plate.😀

Yelp
amazing traditional lao food that does taste like home. the customer service is nice. ordered take out and got their raw beef larp, bitter intestine soup, tham papaya, and fried shrimp. so impressed by the quality of the dishes, as some of them are very meticulous to make- it's surprising someone actually sells it. would recommend if you're wanting to try/or needing your fix of authentic lao food!

Yelp
this review is for a doordash order - which i left a review there too but i felt yelp gets more exposure so it needed to be on here too. i think i gaslit myself into thinking the order wasn't that bad but thinking back i think i was just extra hungry so any food would have sufficed lol anyways, i ordered the Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry and P-Pork Belly and Sticky Rice - the flavor of the shrimp was delicious, however, the protein to rice ratio was absolutely criminal lol. 8 pieces of shrimp with what seemed to be a pound of rice and then maybe 10 pieces of pork belly with again, another pound of rice. i was able to eat both proteins with only one of the rice servings and still had rice leftover. if adding more protein to the portion isn't an option, i would strongly recommend to at least put less rice (maybe half the current portion) so it doesn't look as bad i know some places skimp out with delivery orders so i'm not sure if the serving sizes are the same in person but i don't really feel inclined to find out

Yelp
The restaurant wasn't busy and the service was okay. Server never came to check on us. The only time was when he dropped the dish off to us - which came one by one - but he complimented on the dish and didn't ask us if we needed anything. But he was nice if anything. All the food we ordered were okay but nothing worth going back to eat. Num Nuong Rolls had tough wrappers. Although a good portion, the garlic shrimps were not crunchy at all and were mushy instead.

Yelp
While the waitress was very friendly and sweet, the food was not good. Did the hot pot lunch for $28- meat was tough and chewy and the broth very bland. Wont be returning for hot pot but the rest of the menu looked good.

Yelp
My wife and I got here around 5:35pm on a Friday night. There were no customers at all. When we entered, no one greeted us until we started talking amongst each other. A worker, who was sitting down at the time, got up and told us we can sit wherever we wanted to. There were tables and a few booths. We chose to sit at the booth. They're a bit low and far from the table so it wasn't as comfortable. The waiter came and gave us our menus then asked if we wanted water. Of course we said yes. He brought our water and then told us to get his attention when we were ready to order. Once we've decided on what to order, I had to get up and go tell him we were ready. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls, the pork skewers, a papaya salad, PadSeeEw beef, and sticky rice. Shrimp Spring Rolls- 3/5 Came with two different sauces. 1/5 The peanut sauce was very thick and sweet. 4/5 The sweet and spicy sauce. For the spring rolls, not sure if this a new thing but there was pickled daikons, not a fan. 5/5 for the proportion ratio of shrimp to stuffing. Papaya Salad 3.5/5 The papaya salad was good and flavorful. It was just a tad bit salty. Pork Skewers- 3.5/5 Could've been 5/5 but the meat portion was very small and had too much veggies. Beef PadSeeEw - 2/5 Needs a bit of work. The dish looked good and smelled good but the flavors weren't there. It was too sweet. Not sure where the sourness came from but something was sour in the dish.

Yelp
We were visiting Fresno from Bakersfield, pulled into the parking lot and saw a Lao restaurant. Decided to give it a try for lunch, since I don't think we have any Lao restaurants in our area, and I don't really see them all that often elsewhere either. We ordered the garlic shrimp, beef larb, and spring rolls. Everything was flavorful, well-prepared, and fresh. It's a family-owned and operated place. I unfortunately forgot the guys' name, but our server was a son of the owners and grandson of the chef. We had a nice conversation and he also gave us some helpful advice regarding Lao cuisine :) Definitely a place we'd come back to when we're in the area again.

Yelp
I love the hot pot, spicy beef is my fav the unlimited meat and sides are so good I have been like 4times now can't wait to go back, the egg rolls and spring rolls are so good definitely a 10/10

Mother Of T.

Yelp
Pho 3/10 Although the broth was good, the noodles were extremely soggy and there was a piece of brown metal wire on top. I thought it was a stem from the basil leaves. He told me not to bring it up Pork Pad Kaprow 7.5/10 Needs more basil Red Curry 6/10 It was yellow curry instead, it was good. Sticky Rice 10/10 Good portion, can't go wrong with them Be prepared, it's hot inside All entrees comes with sticky rice/steam rice Portions are small, enough for 1. Not shareable

Yelp
So happy to join these nice folks for their soft-launch grand opening today. Two of us shared shrimp spring rolls, Lao sausage, and pad sa ew with beef. Service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. All the dishes were delicious. I'll definitely going back to explore more of their menu. Support local! Eat here!

Yelp
Service takes a long time. When no one is in the restaurant. I honestly think it's a bit too expensive for a small portion. The taste is not consistent too. Sometimes, to salty and sometimes to plain.

Yelp
All you can eat hotpot! All you can eat bbq! What more can you ask for!? Place is clean and love the set up. Also ordered beef laab to go. It was fire! Definitely coming back to get more and more things.

Yelp
We dine in for all you can eat hotpot. Our server Nick did an amazing job. I ordered laab to go and that was good. Loved the thum yum flavor for hotpot. Recommend trying and supporting small businesses.

Yelp
This has to be the worst food I ate. I ordered two dishes and both had completely no flavor like bland. Portion was not worth the price. So very disappointed. Would have been better off eating pho next store...

Gisela V.

Yelp
Was greeted by a polite young man, ordered sticky rice , chicken and egg rolls. All bomb af! Thank you will def return :)

Yelp
All you can eat hot pot, more like all you can wait. We went during the weekend with my family, a fairly big party, about 9 people. Customer Service needs work. The guys seemed awfully annoyed having to constantly serve us. Quite honestly just take out all you can eat hot pot off the menu. If you can't service your tables. Also not to mention they were very uncoordinated and lacked communication. Not to mention I had to ask our server 6 TIMES for him to bring my little brother his THAI MILK TEA. I will not be coming back, nor would I recommend anyone.

Yelp
Food is very well seasoned, reminds me of my grandmas cooking. Service is good, very friendly people. The setting of the restaurant is very nice and cute, i like the inside, they also have a very nice outside patio.
