Bar Stillife Opens in Old Montreal, From Owners of Montreal’s Cloakroom | Eater Montreal

"At 640 St-Paul West, just near McGill Street, the new bar Stilllife opens today as a larger, more versatile project from the owners of Bar Cloakroom: with room for 125 people it will cast a wider net than the small, very cocktail-focused Cloakroom. It began as an apertivo-style idea—amaro- and vermouth-focused—but will also offer a robust beer and wine program and light, booze-friendly bites like charcuterie and cheese; the full cocktail list will run to about 29 drinks. Sustainability and low-waste practices are central to the concept: citrus is processed into a cordial and fermented with a kombucha scoby to keep the juice an extra 10 days for a slush daiquiri that will be one of the signatures, orange peel oil is extracted for old fashioneds instead of holding large orange stocks, and the team plans to push seasonal, low-waste approaches further. Prices are approachable for Old Montreal (cocktails start at $8, mostly $12–$15), taps will include Beau’s, Farnham and Basque-style ciders from Cidrerie Le Sonambule, and the 2,400-square-foot space—designed by Alain Carle—uses concrete construction and a large metal-and-glass partition so it can be split if needed and works well for groups. Stilllife is open 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday to Saturday (closed Sunday)." - Tim Forster

Google
Loved the vibe at Stillife! Super stylish, great music and atmosphere. Feels like the perfect mix between a bar and a club — definitely a spot I’d come back to

Great place if you want to spend a nice evening. Be sure to book in advance, even though it is well hidden, long waiting line may await and the bar isn’t spacious. Prepare your ID as you couldn’t get access without it. Music is 🔥 if you like chilly techno/house vibes, their DJ knows how to make it feel modern. Great cocktails.

I liked the vibe and music by the dj was good. Thursday night 12:30am the place was fairly empty. I liked the bar configuration and it has a sophisticated vibe. Finally a bar with crowd older than 21. Happy! I’d go again!

Google
This place has a low light vibe - historically I’ve had some of the best cocktails in the city here, but recently they have been mediocre. It doesn’t pick up til after 10 so if you want to have a conversation with friends by candlelight in old port, go before then. We got forgotten after asking for the bill, when I was paying the check - the tip options were 20% or higher, with the service we received I felt 15 was more appropriate. The machine still charged my card 20% after entering a custom amount. That’s gotta be…illegal ya? I didn’t notice until later.

Cool place! I would suggest booking a reservation as it can get quite busy. Espresso martinis are really good!

Google
Very cool secret underground bar/club/venue space. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the drinks were wonderful. It’s certainly an expensive ($20 cocktails) and trendy place but the drinks are made with care and passion and it’s a very cool place to be. Definitely a great spot if you’re into the night life!

Google
Love what they did with the interior design: spacious, soft lines brutalist, gray brick accents and industrial. The design works well and with the dim lights, making the space feel very welcomed, relax and comfortable. For the drinks menu, creative and fruit inspired themes drinks. The flavor map on the menu change the whole game.

We were very lucky to get in on a Saturday night at 9pm. Usually you cannot get in if you do not have guestlist or reservation. Place is very somber. The bar quickly became packed at 11am. The cocktails were around 20$ each. House music was good. You can’t really hear your friends talk because the music is so loud.

Yelp
Im writing another review now that I am sober and I have to say Cyn was truly the light of my night, the star in the dark or whatever you want to call it! I had to go to the bathroom and I was very advance in my night she took the time to bring me to the bathroom and wait for me and make sure I made it safe back to my table. I also wanted so bad a nicotine vape I was craving and gave a busboy 100$ cash for him to find me a vape and he gave me his old dying vape and she handle this situation truly amazing when she didn't have too she gave me back my money and gave me one in a box new and she felt so sorry that I was taken advantage of ! But I didn't really care this much but the fact that she went out of her way for this truly made my experience incredible. I love going to a club when the girly staff are girls girls and it make me want to come back more often and where we know we are taken care of ! AMAZING THANK YOU CYN

Yelp
Super fun place to go out, and a super cool speakeasy in a great location. The drinks are definitely a lil overpriced for what you're getting but it's always a great spot to go to if you're in Old Port

Yelp
This was the best cocktail/speakeasy spot in Montreal after visiting about 3 other highly rated spots. The place was spacious and very modern. It had the sleek Scandinavian design. The server was very attentive and explained to us about sourcing from sustainable food sources so the 4 ingredients featured on the menu were Pineapple, pear, strawberry, and tomato. Each ingredient had 4 different drinks, ranging from refreshing/light to spirit forward. They also had mocktails. I tried the Bartletian (pear based) while my husband had the QC Strong (strawberry based). I couldn't really make out the flavor note by reading the menu so I told the server what I liked, the drinks that I was debating between and he recommended Bartletian, which was spot on! It was sweet, refreshing, and semi strong. Unfortunately, that was the only drink on the menu with that flavor note, so we opted to stay for one drink only. Hubby's QC Strong was quite strong and had a fruity scent. He enjoyed it a lot as well. We also tried some snacks from the menu - truffle peanuts and ham/prosciutto. Both were easy to share and helped to tamper our hunger. Highly recommended if you are in mood for some cocktails!

Yelp
I find it unfortunate that I have to write this review, but I feel obligated to share my experience. We came here with high hopes. We did arrive early (we were the first people seated), and initially, everything seemed primed for a great night. Friendly staff, interesting cocktails, and a really cool space. When we walked in, the place was empty. The staff let us know that people generally arrive later in the night (we did come early, around 9PM, but we are out-of-towners), and the bar was recommended to us. The staff let us know that they had a reservation at one table, but could guarantee us seating at another if we stayed the night. After discussing, we decided to stay the evening at this bar and support the staff who had -- up until this point -- been friendly and generous. Interestingly enough, as the bar started to get more crowded, the staff let us know that we needed to move tables. This was not an issue for us, as they had let us know ahead of time that we would be guaranteed seating at another table. However, when the time came to move, they informed us that there was nowhere for us to sit, but we were "welcome to stand around the bar". Ordinarily, this is not something I would take issue with. But the fact that this establishment went out of their way to guarantee us seating, have us stay for 2 hours, ordering drinks and food, only to shoo us away and renege their "guarantee" of a table once the place started getting more crowded, was upsetting. Had they been honest with us from the start and not gone out of their way to try and keep us there when the bar was empty, (and let us know that they couldn't seat us past 11), I would have had no issue. As someone who has traveled to many cities, I've had the privilege of going out to different bars, clubs, lounges, etc. I am willing to overlook many things, and do not see myself as a "hard reviewer" (most of my ratings are 4-5 stars). One thing that I will not put up with is disrespect and blatant lies. Unfortunately, this was our experience at Stillife. The only beacon of hope at this place was our initial waiter, Vince. He was cool, considerate, and helpful. This establishment would do well to promote him over their current management. I would avoid this place (despite its cool decor) and find somewhere more willing to respect their customers. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

Yelp
Decently sized speakeasy for groups and events. I believe this is the main purpose of this bar since the decor and color scheme is so minimalist. While there for a small gathering, my friend and I were unable to understand what type of nightlife this bar was aiming for. The music was an odd mmix of oldie rock which did not match its minimalist modern decor. It seemed to have enough space for dancing, but the vibe was much too laid back and slightly pretentious. I think this bar is still figuring out what crowed it will attract. One positive side is that it is making efforts to become one of the first sustainable, eco-friendly bars in MTL. I also appreciated the fact they had a menu with non-alcoholic mocktails at the back of their menu. Although the one I tried with spices and strawberry just tasted like watered down strawberry syrup.

Yelp
I love the concept of reducing waste and sustainability and wouldn't mind paying more for it. The concept of this bar is more of a speakeasy for groups and events. It has an industrial charm to it, and was meant to ooze off a "exclusive" vibe by placing the door in an alley and having the inside door locked until someone opens it up for you. I was honestly very intrigued. The drinks there was delicious, the selection all derives from 4 ingredients. It may not worth the hefty price, but then again, being sustainable costs mullah. The service was very friendly, they were attentive to us and kept coming back with water and to take additional orders. The snacks were expensive but delicious as well. Bonus: you also leave with a pack of wildflower seeds, how cool is that!

Yelp
Minimalist bar with amazing cocktails! The olives were really good (I liked the served them warm) and the cheese was ok. There's a DJ but I didn't stay that long for it.

Yelp
Would've liked to have tried it out, went in through the side alley down the stairs to the main entrance but the door was locked and no staff present to let anyone in or to communicate with patrons. Music was blasting so it was open but no sign saying private event or anything. Waited 10mins we knocked on the door, even called them but no answer so we left, guess it's by appt only lol? Nobody cares about a sustainable "zero waste" bar if it isn't friendly, manage the front entrance better and hire staff to coordinate if there's a wait. People aren't going to wait outside a locked door with zero staff and communication, they'll leave and go to a friendlier spot like Parliament or Pub St Pierre down the street like we did. First impressions: it's yuppie af and mega douchey, exactly the kinda vibe Old MTL joints should be trying to shake off as they enter the winter lull. I won't go back.

Yelp
The concept is simple; a zero waste bar. This means that syrups and juices are used instead of fresh fruit and no garnishes are used either. That being said, it didn't take away from the flavors of the cocktails (though visually it seemed to be lacking a bit). The staff was lovely and very attentive. They explained the drinks thoroughly, checked in on us regularly and even brought us a chair when we were one short at our corner of the bar. The price point is a little high but that seems to be the overall trend in bars lately. I had a great time and plan to go back.

Yelp
A cute new place in the old port! I walked in and was totally impressed by the fresh clean minimalist decor. Being an event planner I was overwhelmed by all the party ideas that could happen there! Also the idea of their sustainable cocktail ingredients sounded cool. However my excitement for this new place quickly ended at the bill. $50 for 3 rum and cokes? No thanks! I wouldn't have mind paying 15-20 bucks for a good cocktail but I was in the mood for something classic only to end up paying the same. My rating is for the decor and service.

Yelp
Cool sequencing in order to get inside the bar. Friendly staff, delicious cocktails and beautiful design. Great concept overall. Must try.
