15 of New Orleans’ Best Bloody Marys | Eater New Orleans

"The very idea of a fried softshell crab as a garnish to anything, let along a bloody mary, seems bizarre. Until you try a Crabby Mary at Stingray’s, an unassuming seafood spot tucked away Esplanade Mall Road in Kenner. With pickled green beans for antennae and olives for eyes, this specialty is worth writing home about. Save some room if you can, the seafood is down-home good." - Beth D’Addono

Hubby and I went for a late lunch.... FANTASTIC!! Server was Joe.... and he was the absolute coolest kid on the block! He was attentive, made sure we had everything we needed to accompany our order. Food: Zydeco fish 😋 came out hot and freshly cooked... veggies and cajun potato salad... Also we had the seafood plate... hubby said WHOOO! on his first bite... 😂 Rum punch, crab cakes atmosphere, music.. this was worth the drive! Oh! And met one of the owners.... Amber.. cool, down to earth, very funny ..... we are definitely adding this spot to the list of faves!

This place was pleasantly delicious! I was worried when my partner and I pulled in the parking lot and there were only 3 cars here. We ordered the boudin egg rolls, the zydeco fish, and the sting ray trio (grilled) with sides of mac n cheese and the cajun potatoes and cajun potato salad. The staff was super sweet and friendly, and I would definitely come back for some good grilled seafood and fish plates!

Not sure why we haven't been here in years but we're glad we stopped here last night. Food was very good! Grilled Oysters were good but on the small size. I loved the "Zydeco Fish"! Our server recommended it and she was not lying! My wife got the "Shrimp Nicholas" and she loved it! Very buttery. One of our friends had the "Shrimp Nicole" and she said it was very delicious and spicy. Spicy where you feel it in the back of your throat. Not sure what that means. Our other friend ordered a "Fried Shrimp on bun" sandwich. Also very delicious. Our server was friendly and great. Over all this is still a great place to get some good food.

Jamie is awesome. Food was quick, and delicious. Not overloaded with Cajun flavor, so that was good. Perfect crawfish. Easy to peel. Drinks were spot on. Fish was good and thin. Best grilled shrimp I had in a while.

Haven’t been here since new owners. Very nice inside. Food and service were great! Will def be back soon!

Google
12-31-2023. The place was clean, big screen TV (thankfully it was muted), clean restrooms, and the music wasn't too loud to where you couldn't talk. We started with a spinach artichoke (OK) & grilled oysters on the half shell. The oysters were tiny, and the topping overpowered the oysters. I had the two pork chops, one grilled & the other breaded. They were good. Sides were Mac & cheese and Cajun potato salad (strange consisinstancy. No potato chunks). My party had stuffed shrimp (too much stuffing but good), onion rings & Mac h cheese; grilled shrimp, Mac & cheese and hush puppies; and fried crab cakes, Mac & cheese and French fries. All and all, the food was worth the visit.

Google
This hidden little gem is a place I'd never been till recently. There's a poor older lady waittress with a speech throat device who you might have thought would have trouble waiting tables, but she took care of us with excellent care, accuracy and speed the entire visit ADHD we had a party of 10 for a birthday dinner. When we walked in, the place was clean and looked kinda like an UPPER CLASS place you'd see on the Hallmark channel. It was nice. My food was tasty. You could've easily spent $30 to $50 PER PERSON here if each person gets more than just the entree. We went to early dinner at 4pm and there were only about 6 other people (2 parties) there at the time, so it was a great time to go. I would go back to explore the menu, but I would consider it middle-upper on cost. Overall, it was a great time, staff was great and food was good.

Google
Im sitting in a booth inside right now and I can confidently say this place is so cheeks. To say the service is slow would be an understatement; it’s virtually nonexistent. I had to wait 30 minutes to actually get my drink and another 20 for a straw. Thank Jesus Himself we ordered both appetizers and entrees at once because it still took all four of the evers to get our food. We arrived at 7ish and didnt get our food until half an hour before closing. Oh, and I forgot to mention half our stuff didnt even arrive. I’d say to go to Mcdonald’s instead of here, because at least you get food there. P.S. The spinach and artichoke dip is all artichoke and flavorless.

Yelp
I can't understand how anyone could give this food less than 5 stars. Great prices, huge portions and the seafood is exceptional- freshness, taste/seasoning, cooked to perfection. My new favorite "go to place" for seafood.

Yelp
Let me state this straight up: A three star review in New Orleans, or the metropolitan area, is not a bad thing. Being a New Orleans native, I'm a tad bit harder on food around here because the culinary standards are set high in the land of Creole cuisine. The staff here is really friendly. You will not have a bad customer service experience. The food is decently priced and the portion sizes are decent as well. The reason for the 3 star review...well, you do not get that taste and flavor explosion you expect when eating food in New Orleans. The crab meat jalapeños were really well done, so no complaints there. The seafood platter left a lot to be desired. It was fried well, but as aforementioned, no flavor explosion. The mac and cheese was meh. Would I come back here? Possibly because the food isn't bad...it just isn't amazing. The banana foster cheesecake does have me wanting to try it...we will see what the future holds.

Grace W.

Yelp
The food was actually disgusting, I went with family for my grandmothers birthday. We revived uncooked, raw fish, everything was over cooked, and lacked flavor. I would not recommend this place for anyone

Rona W.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! The fried batter they use tastes great and everything fried to perfection. Oysters are delicious and so are the drinks. Service is nice and ambiance is ok. Another go to spot for great food that does not disappoint!

Yelp
Went here for the 1st time w/my mate and we truly enjoyed. Down to the hospitality when we walked in , to our waiter , and others who were also pleasant who worked at thee establishment that greeted us as well. I honestly thought it was an predominantly "white" place and been having second thoughts battling whether I should spend my money there, but I'm glad we went & dined in! The food was pretty good. We tried 3 appetizers (crab cakes, boudin egg rolls & chargrilled oysters), an entree (stuffed shrimp) and two cocktails. I'm deff visiting again and have also told my friends!

Yelp
I had to stop by and try their infamous Crabby bloody Mary but it was so cute, I almost didn't want to disturb it. Lol I had read some reviews prior to going which almost deterred me from stopping by, but I'm glad that I did. Upon entering, the staff was very welcoming & friendly, and I was able to get seating immediately as the restaurant wasn't crowded. I came on a Sunday afternoon so I'm not sure what the crowd is like any other day, especially the weekend. I'm glad that it wasn't crowded because it had just started to poor down rain, and all I wanted to do was get out of it. They also have a nice patio with outside seating. I ordered the fried shrimp & fish platter which comes with 2 sides and hush puppies. I got onion rings & Mac & cheese for my sides which were ok, but the food tasted like something you would get out of a diner. The hush puppies were really good, and I enjoyed the shrimp, but there was nothing spectacular about the meal. The highlight of my dining experience was the Crabby Mary, and it was tasty too. The soft shell crab on it was delicious. Glad I was able to stop by during my trip.

Yelp
Food was great and the Crabby Mary was excellent! If back in the area would go back again.

Yelp
Stingray's has been a family favorite since I was a kid. Though lots of things have changed over the years, the quality of the food and service has remained consistent. Stingray's knows seafood! So that's exactly what we ordered at our most recent visit. I decided to go with the Shrimp Nicole, topped with fried shrimp. My pasta was full of flavor, creamy, and the fried shrimp complimented it perfectly - adding a nice, crunchy texture to the dish. Amanda decided to try out the softshell crab poboy, which was absolutely delicious, but you seriously can't go wrong with softshell crab anything from this place! I mean, have you seen their Bloody Mary?! And although we didn't get the famous Bloody Mary, we did try a few of their signature drinks and both were amazing. The service throughout our visit was outstanding, from the moment we arrived until we stepped out the door. They can get rather busy, so if you don't have time to wait for a table I recommend showing up soon after they open. I definitely recommend giving them a shot if you love seafood!

Yelp
Awesome in every way!!! Food is fresh hot made to order beat service every time highly recommended

Yelp
This is the first time I had bad food from Stingrays. We ordered food to go, and I ordered the Chicken a Atchafalaya. It was so over cooked the chicken was dry and hard the stuffing was burnt. It was not edible at all. What a complete waste of money. Then my wife had the Soft shelled crab, it was mush. It will be a long long time before I return to this place again.

Lucien Delery ..

Yelp
Must be a new owner. Food is not fresh. Very greasy fried frozen breaded shrimp. Won't be back. Use to love it.
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
I came here recently. My friend loves bloody marys so I took her here because I love how obnoxious they are here. Obnoxious is a good thing. I forgot how good the seafood here is. Service is excellent. Keep on keeping on!

Yelp
Ate here with my family last time we were in town. I had the Zydeco Fish and let me tell you, it's amazing. I typically don't eat fried food at home in CO so I splurge when I'm in LA. The sauce on this was great and so was the crabmeat dressing. It was fried perfectly. It was also the biggest piece of fish I've ever seen, so I took most of it back to my hotel room for later. Everyone enjoyed what they had and it's a laidback comfortable environment.

George M.

Yelp
Delightful fun staff great portions of food! One of the servers she's great sings to the music. And try their Crabby Mary awesome collection of crab and shrimp with a Bloody Mary drink, you won't regret!!
google avatar

Teira R.

Yelp
Had a girls date here and from the moment I walked through the door, the staff was amazing! They were very friendly and welcoming, and checked on us various times throughout dining to make sure drinks were filled and the food was good. The seafood platter was lit, omg the hush puppies were my favorite part! And it is huge! The batter was perfect. I love this place, the food, the workers, definitely earned their 5 stars!
google avatar

Jamaella W.

Yelp
I truly enjoyed my food here, I got the trio plate fish shrimp and oysters. The only thing that needs improving is the mac and cheese you can taste the flour they used. I would go again and just not get the Mac.

Karen R.

Yelp
I've been to almost every restaurant in that area but never Stinfray's. When I finally visited I was in for a nice treat. Service and food were both good. I the ordered chargrilled oysters and an creamy eggplant dish with crab meat served over pasta. They were both delicious.
google avatar

Homer C.

Yelp
Great place for seafood. Must try the Crabby Mary. Service is great and the ambiance is family oriented.
google avatar

Kris C.

Yelp
Consistently good food with a wide range of menu items to choose from. From fried and grilled seafood to burgers and spaghetti and meatballs. Service is always great and never has been a problem. Give them a try if you are in the area. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Janet N.

Yelp
After seeing all the review for the bloody mary I had to try them out. I love bloody mary and soft shell crab so this place was a must. It was delicious and an appetizer on its own. I also tried the fried eggplants and it was cooked perfectly. Soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The seafood platter is good but nothing to brag about. I gave them 3 stars because service was slow and I had to asked for my tartar sauce and cocktail repeatedly.
google avatar

Yelp
Tucked away into the perimeter of the "dying a slow death" Esplanade Mall, this is a place that local Kenner people frequent but most others don't even know exists. They have $5 drink specials for happy hour, including a very delicious Lemondrop Martini. Of course, there's the ridiculous $20 bloody mary, topped with a softshell crab, shrimp, etc., if you want to go that route. I haven't tried it, but the photos are awesome. Food? Stick to the seafood. The sides are pretty subpar, but you really can't go wrong with their boiled or fried seafood selection. Cheap drinks, some boiled crawfish... perfect for a night out in Kenner!
google avatar

Ashley F.

Yelp
The Bloody Mary was festive... I got a King Cake Baby on mine.... From start to finish, a lot of the food tasted the same... Crab Cakes, Stuffed Jalapeño, Crab Stuffed Shrimp, I swear it was literally the same thing, over and over... Luckily I ordered something different and my friend was the one stuck with the remedial food... I had the Charbroiled oysters, Catfish and Potatoes with Mac N Cheese.... Mac N Cheese was good, and the Catfish was amazing...

Yelp
My food had hair in itHaven't eaten there in a long time & wanted to give another try. Ordered to pick up & this is that I see as I'm eating. Extremely insanitary & would not recommend.

Yelp
What brought us all the way to Kenner, was the promise of cheap crawfish. I had been doing my due diligence in researching what places had the cheapest crawfish in town and at $2.99/lb, this place was the big winner. I had also had it on my list because I wanted to try one of their Crabby Mary's. We were here on a Saturday night and there was a good size crowd at 7. We decided to start with some fried pickles, just because we both like them and we wanted something to munch on. We then got the boiled crawfish with sausage and potatoes and I got my Crabby Mary. The crawfish was pretty close to perfect: they were a good size (bigger than I had had at a previous spot) and while they could have been a tad spicier, they had a good flavor. The sausage also could have been spicier, but I enjoyed it as well. My Crabby Mary was pretty good. What it is is a bloody Mary topped with a fried soft shell crab, two fried shrimp and two hush puppies, all for $20. Honestly, as good as it was, I probably wouldn't rush to get it again. My suggestion would be- order this for lunch with a side and call it a day. I'm not sure if it was worth the $20. Our waitress was extremely nice and went above and beyond, especially when we thought we had a "sausage emergency" (we thought they had forgotten the sausage, so our waitress brought us more). I would love to go back and see what else they have to offer and I will probably be back for some more crawfish before the end of the season.

Yelp
The restaurant it self had the typical feel of any seafood restaurant. The Lavendar Margarita was tasty, but weak. Ordered spinach dip. It wasn't good, came out cold. The Platter was plentiful, but cold and tasteless. My sister ordered a platter and baked macaroni. There was no flavor, whatsoever. The server was pretty good though. He was sufficient and prompt. I wouldn't recommend this place though.

Yelp
I've always wondered if this place was any good and for years I would just drive past by hoping someone I personally know would have visited this place. Well, I happen to know someone who recommended us to go there. We did visit, and at first I was a little skeptical, until I got my first bite on a crab cake appetizer...it was delicious! Right on spot. I tried the fried calamari, but I'm just going to say that I wasn't too thrilled about it. It was a tad chewy. I also had their seafood angel hair pasta with oyster, and shrimp in a spicy creamy sauce; it was definitely on point with flavor and freshness. It may not be your traditional seafood place, but I'm looking forward to come back and try more of their menu items.
google avatar

Jessica O.

Yelp
Food was decent. Crawfish was delicious! Not sure if they were short staffed but our food took a while to get brought to the table. Def coming back for the crawfish.
google avatar

Lawrence C.

Yelp
Great neighborhood place offering excellent value and good friendly service. Quality of food is above average while portion size is most generous. Specialty is fried catfish and boiled crawfish (wish I took a picture of both for you, sorry). Bottom line: I'd return.

Sheri C.

Yelp
Excellent customer service! Excellent food and prices! They give you large portions so be prepared to take some home. I definitely recommend this restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
Our waitress Julia was really nice & attentive. Such a quiet place which was refreshing, and the food was super fresh! Well done Stingray's!

Yelp
4-12-2019 Party of 3 dined in , waitress was awesome ! beer very cold ,and even offered cold glasses. Sides came with meals , Mac and cheese was one of our sides. It was awful ! Taste like sour milk Told waitress and she was very kind and took it away and said she would notify the cook. Also said a few people before us complained about the same thing. We all tried it, and agreed it was sour . We mentioned it to the manager and she said " well we already served a whole pan and no one complained" what! Not I'm sorry or anything ! Made it sound like it was just us complaing. Too bad she couldn't have been as nice and understanding as our waitress. Fish was stinky , coleslaw was warm we won't be back. They need a new manager, and chef ...
google avatar

Yelp
Service and atmosphere was good, we weren't impressed with the food. Ordered the crab stuffed jalapenos- those were good, Crawfish Boudreaux - didn't have any taste really; I think maybe because the noodles tasted as though they were warmed under hot water and not drained, and the Shrimp Feast - all shrimp except the grilled shrimp was cold and rubbery, we didn't try the stuffed shrimp to comment on that. When we went they had a couple of groups and it got VERY loud when one group was leaving (they were conversing with the other group that came in). I wanted one of their famous Bloody Mary's but drink prices weren't listed on the drink menu. Yes I could have asked our server, but I didn't. Sadly we won't return.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice atmosphere for bar and grill - can bring entire family here. I ordered the "Lobster Luke;" whole lobster stuffed with a terrific crab meat stuffing and covered with a cajun-spiced Alfredo sauce. You could choose from a variety of side dishes, and my choices were the cajun-spiced boiled potatoes and steamed broccoli. Although I found the Cajun spices to be somewhat overwhelming, I'm not going to let that influence the review. Just a cautionary statement for any of you who appreciate Cajun spice but don't want it to overpower the food. My husband had the, "Cajun Fish Platter," which he thoroughly enjoyed. The platter included about five or six large, fried, catfish strips, and he ordered the coleslaw and onion rings as the side dishes. He said he really enjoyed his meal. I am not found of catfish, but I've had enough over my lifetime to make a comparison - I tried everything on his plate, including the catfish, and it was really good. The coleslaw had some kind of spices in it; not spicy hot though. The coleslaw had a nice flavor. The onion rings were also tasty, as far as onion rings go; they had a flavorful batter that I hadn't had before.

Yelp
First stop on our trip to New Orleans - came straight from the airport. Saw photos of the Crabby Mary (soft shell crab bloody mary) - it did not disappoint! Great soft shell crab accompanied with excellent hash browns, fried shrimp, and pickles - bloody mary was on point. Our server Betty was super friendly and prompt, and gave us good tips on our stay. What more can you ask for? We'll definitely be back on our next visit to New Orleans!

Yelp
Great little gem that's been in kenner since I was a child! My husband, whom is a picky eater that I can never get to eat out with me, loves to come here for their seafood pasta! Everyone is so friendly and accomadating. I enjoy their shrimp feast platter which is shrimp just about any way a southern woman would prepare it. Their gumbo is really delicious and definitely something I'd recommend while waiting for your entree. Prices are fair and great for a last minute, casual date night.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
The Bloody Mary is by far my favorite part. It's as $18.95 but it was my MEAL. There is plenty on it to fill you up. Ambience was fine, service was friendly but maybe a little slow checking on the table. Overall a good experience and we will probably return.
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Love stingray's thick fried catfish! Wednesday night lobster specials are also another favorite. Crawfish Taylor is another. But hands down very good chargrilled oysters. Can't complain about anything here except the loudness, practically have to yell to your own table to hear each other.
google avatar

Jovan W.

Yelp
Food was not good at all, either it was burnt or half done.... for instance the spinach dip was like soup. The chip was refried because they were old.
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
Food was absolutely amazing! Boiled shrimp was a tad over cooked but the entire meal exceeded that small flaw. I was hesitant after reading all the negative reviews but after enjoying my delicious entree I came to the conclusion those people had to be out of their minds! I had the Shrimp Feast. Excellent!
google avatar

Drdonna L.

Yelp
We came to try the "All you can eat Snow Crabs and Catfish" at Stingrays in Kenner...NOT!!!! It is DECEIVING. You get your first plate and then have to ask for the next...THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO ASK "HOW MANY pieces?" Then, if you let another in your party taste something from your plate, they call it "food sharing" and refuse your next service. "No food sharing" is NOT stated on the menu, the commercials, nor by the waitress!! DON'T GET DUPED!!!! Save your money and time and go to Treasure Chest or Harrah's for TRUE "All you can eat Snowcrabs!!"
google avatar

C W.

Yelp
Man...... this is what you want. Local place SO friendly and accommodating. Funky without trying to be. GREAT food Look no further. Just Uber on over and chill and enjoy
google avatar

Helen M.

Yelp
I enjoyed my charboiled grilled oysters. I also enjoyed my margarita that was like a double shot of patron with some strawberry puree in it. It really didn't taste like a margarita but that's fine cause I enjoyed it for every bit of $7.50 I payed for it. However, you must catch it for happy hour! !
google avatar

KIM Z.

Yelp
I've tried this place twice. They are nothing special and kinda slow. I would recommend saving your money and going somewhere that's actually good. I won't be back
google avatar

Nastascia M.

Yelp
I waited 30 minutes for my food and still did not get all of it. Another 10 minutes for my soft shell crab!! Service was absolutely horrible ! I didn't even eat the food there because I got tired of waiting.
google avatar

Danna P.

Yelp
Omg I Love stingray's. The food is excellent well seasoned. We ordered the seafood boat for about $44 and it feed our whole TABLE (3adults and 4kids)! If you haven't gone, it's a must you try this place!

Angel A.

Yelp
Today I ordered the Stingray Trio and it was amazing!! I substituted the fish for redfish for an upcharge and it was worth every cent. It came with the grilled fish, grilled shrimp on a skewer, and 6 chargrilled oysters
google avatar

Sherrie B.

Yelp
This is a locally owned and operated restaurant with fantastic food and great wait staff. Friends brought us here a few months ago for the 1st time and now I can't get enough. The Zydeco Fish is amazing, but my favorite thing is the potato salad. Spicy but not too spicy. Great flavor. Definitely give this place a try if your in the Kenner area.
google avatar

Mmm Y.

Yelp
Went to this restaurant yesterday. Will not go again because of the service. Way to slow and unprofessional. No sense of urgency. I'm pretty sure it was a newer waitress...died blue/purple bangs...was def on something hardcore. The only reason I gave two here is because the drinks were ok and the food was decent. Not a place for me to frequent.
google avatar

MsNomadica R.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the menu. It looks like they have a bunch of great seafood dishes, but none of them have any flavor! Four of us ate there, all ordering different things, and every single one of them was bland - which is a cardinal sin in the New Orleans area. Even worse, 2 out of the 4 were way too spicy, and there was no flavor whatsoever beneath the heat. Totally ridiculous. I only went there once, so maybe a different chef on a different shift would result in a different experience. But with so many great places to eat around this city, I doubt I'll give it another chance.
