"This Del Ray shop that’s known for its doughy, bountiful biscuits makes a sorghum butter to slather on its baked goods. The Southern spread gets its subtle sweetness from sorghum cereal grass. Add a dollop to a biscuit, banana bread, or scone." - Emily Wishingrad

"Chef and owner Nicole Jones makes some of the finest buttermilk biscuits around D.C. at her cafe in Del Ray. A plain biscuit runs just over $3, and customers can build their own sandwiches with options like bacon, ham, sausage, cheddar, poached or baked eggs, and sorghum butter. Her “not-so-classic” fried chicken biscuit comes with benne seed tahini, hot sauce, honey, red onion, and za’atar. Breakfast is available Tuesday through Sunday." - Tierney Plumb, Stephanie Carter

"This Del Ray neighborhood spot offers build-your-own biscuits or fried chicken biscuit sandwiches. The latter comes in classic pimento-and-pickles style, or a “not-so-classic” with benne seed tahini, hot sauce, honey, red onion, and za'atar. Customers can order a side of sausage gravy before noon. For a sweet tooth, there’s also a French toast biscuit. Order online for pickup or delivery." - Tim Ebner

A while since I've been, but I came across my photos and wanted to share. Went with a group of friends for lunch. I was lured in by the fried chicken and also got a biscuit and gravy. Good sized portions, gravy is thick, but not too gloppy. Would have liked a larger piece of chicken, but having it sliced was good.

I enjoyed Stomping Ground because it was something different from the usual breakfast diners or brunch places. Stomping Ground features biscuits and you can choose what you put on the biscuit from a poached egg to avocado. You can also enjoy some decent coffee. The restaurant is very crowded and you may end of at a community table which is guess makes sense because it is a community type of restaurant. Like many places in Del-Ray it is not a cheap eat. You order and they take the food to the table and then you clean up yourself.

Quite possibly the worst food I’ve ever ordered. I ordered from here with Uber Eats. I ordered breakfast nachos and grits. Anytime I’ve ever ordered nachos for delivery, the nachos come (essentially) deconstructed from any liquid toppings, but that wasn’t the case. I opened the nachos to find a container or pure mush from the tortilla chips sitting in the red sauce and busted egg on top - plus it was missing some ingredients that were listed on the menu. Then on to the grits, which had a pool of grease sitting on top and had little to no flavor. And this couldn’t have been any fault of the Uber Eats driver because I watched the delivery - they came straight to my house from the restaurant. However, I tried to call the restaurant and request a refund after spending $35 on inedible food and they don’t answer and have a full mailbox. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Complete disaster of an experience with this unprofessional business.

Pictured: Eggs and Biscuit with the house sausage & the vanilla bean latte Not pictured: Original Chicken Sandwich. Both were delicious. The location is in a lovely little spot & Staff was kind. Everything the staff was bringing out to eat looked delectable. Can’t wait to come back!

Very yummy breakfast spot. I found this place after a simple google search and decided to come try. I had the “breakfast nachos” and a Bloody Mary - both were very delicious. The set up is similar to “fast food”. You order your food at the counter then find your seat and someone brings it out to you.

Such a cute little bistro style shop. The staff were all so nice and lovely and the food was great! Nice outside eating area and indoors too w booths and tables. Even seating out back too. The chicken biscuit was so good as well as the hashbrown casserole. And its baby and dog friendly (im guessing only outside for dogs)

What can I say but go eat here. Order on their website and pick up breakfast or lunch. Plan to eat outside or bring it home. The Biscuit with Fried Chicken with Pimento Cheese is a weird delicious work of food art. This is a knife and fork sandwich and worth the effort. The Biscuits with Sausage Gravy are old timey delicious with updated flare. The gravy is silky and buttery and when you smother a Stomping Ground biscuit the skies clear and your day is instantly better. The Gouda Grits Bowl is a game changer. Anson Mill grits, Chorizo, Salsa Verde, Smoked Gouda, and a perfectly Poached Egg. This will put a smile on your face and a pep in your step. Rough day at the home kitchen office? Order a Boozy Chai Latte and give your apple to a friend.

There was a line to the door when we came in... But wait was worth it. Staff was courteous and attentive. The food was great the Farmers Fritatta was very fresh. The biscuit and gravy had me worried. it looked very white and pale, all of this made me worried I was going to be eating paste, but the experience was divine, the gravy had depth and and flavor with no need to add salt or pepper. The real show stopper were the Breakfast nachos. Amazing presentation and the nachos were layered with toppings so everything had a little of something on them the entire way down. We went for the option without chicken and honestly I don't think it needed it. Awesome experience.

Yelp
The Alley is Chef Nicole's latest adventure, where she can channel her creative talents to engage the community with culinary delights. Located right next to the original Stomping Ground on Mt Vernon Avenue in Del Ray, the Alley is a way for the business owner to utilize the alley space alongside the building, backing up to her other creative venture Bagel Uprising. This space was previously an outdoor eating area for Bagels, but was placed out of commission with COVID. While it's not exactly a new space, per se, I'll welcome any excuse to try Chef Nicole's new creations. You can make a reservation via Resy, either for a high top for 2 or a picnic table for up to 6. The menu is small, but the options are delicious! I highly recommend the dresses up French fries. Perfectly Golden fried, and the chorizo/cheese topping makes it a perfect combo. There are also several small bites that really make the evening pop. As always, don't miss out on their cocktails!
