17 of the Best Breweries in Richmond, Virginia - Eater DC

"The only East Coast location of 25-year-old, California-based Stone Brewing has more than 20 taps pouring year-round and special releases. That includes Richmond originals like Give Me Stout or Give Me Death, a hoppy, berry-tinged imperial stout brewed in collaboration with locals Ardent Craft Ales and Hardywood. Non-beer lovers who tag along will appreciate Stone’s Buenavida Hard Seltzers, available in black cherry, mango, and watermelon lime." - Stephanie Ganz

Last night I used Stone Brewing as an event space to throw a party of about 120 people. If I could give Stone more than 5 stars I would. The space is both unique and beautiful. They have a wonderful outdoor space, but we were able to gather indoors as well when it got too hot outside. The staff was so helpful and easy to work with throughout both the planning process and the actual event. We felt extremely supported! If you are thinking about throwing an event at Stone, I highly recommend it!

Google
Wonderful outdoor space, good beer and food trucks. Nice to be able to ride directly from the capital trail!

Google
What I love about this space is you are so close to the city but feel so far. It's proximity to an undeveloped wooded area, a train track, and the river feel like a reprieve from the busyness of life (though the train can be loud.) They've got a great selection, indoor and outdoor seating, and a food truck.

Stone Brewing offers an all around wonderful experience for families, friends, and coworkers alike. Located right across the street from Gillies Park, patrons are able to sit inside, outside on the large patio, or walk across to the park after their drink for a leisurely stroll or a round of disc golf. Stone offers a large event space that frequently hosts local markets and is unique as they are able to give tours of the full brewery. If you’re able to visit, be sure to try their PB&J beer— a delicious and unique drink you won’t find anywhere else in the area.

Google
Solid enough brewery. My parents friend lives in Richmond and he made this place sound like an east coast Mecca a few years ago, but compared to Sierra Nevada’s ‘Asheville’ location it doesn’t live up to the hype. It’s a lovely space with nice grounds and a comfortable patio, but outside of that there’s not much reason to visit. Stone beer has always been a bit average for me and today was no exception. I had a pilsner (not pictured), hazy IPA, and barleywine while I was here; the best of the three being the hazy IPA. I also ordered a smash burger with fries, which was good and cost about $15 with tip. I’m glad I checked it out, but with so many good RVA breweries I probably won’t be back.

Fun day at the Richmond Moon Festival, the Mushroom Festival! 🍄 So Much Fun! 🤩

Google
Kind of cool to say I’ve visited both their brewery locations thousands of miles apart. There are two parking lots both off different roads. The vibe inside was decent, and they have outdoor seating also. There is a rail line nearby and some wooded areas. A cool bridge leads guests from one of the parking lots to the brewery taproom entrance.

Google
Excellent beer selection and atmosphere. Great seating options indoor and outdoors with plenty of parking. They also have a food truck with great burgers, tacos, and nachos. One of my favorite breweries in the whole city.

Yelp
After years of wanting to visit Stone in San Diego, we were surprised to see Richmond has a location! I enjoyed a delicious IPA while my fiancée had our favorite Sapporo. We were incredibly impressed with the food truck! The food was fast and really delicious! Highly recommend the nacho fries! The beertenders were super kind and LGBTQ+ friendly. This looks like a great place for large parties. We'll definitely be back on our next trip to VA or CA! Cheers!

Yelp
Ample parking, plenty of space. Beers are excellent, they are known for their west cost IPA's but they have some hazy varieties as well. Fresh beers are best, straight from the tap

Yelp
I feel like I've become this breweries new biggest fan. Everytime we roll through here, I am always satisfied - the beer is always changing with a menu stocked full of unique flavors and variations. We bought a growler and love taking some home - I can't say we have a favorite because it all is so good and changes everytime we go! The interior is huge - lots of space for big parties - or if you are like us and want to set up and use a big table for board games. Love the outdoor area - dog-friendly and accessible from a large parking lot. The industrial aestheteics of this place are also super cool - the iron bridge outside, the goats on the hillside (see photos), the food truck, and on top of all that they are always hosting events. Service is great always - one time I dropped a glass and needed help cleaning and the first question I got from staff was "want another beer? on us." Unreal!

Yelp
Really good ambiance with two parking lot areas to access the brewery. Tours are offered twice a day 3 and 5pm with a cost of $15 that includes a flight and $5 your only. From the general exterior to the lavish and spacious interior, both areas are tidy and clean. The service is nice and you can get small samples of beers. I really enjoyed the P.O.G. which was light and savory with fruit notes of passion fruit, oranges, & guava. I enjoyed it so much I got a growler can to go! Now the missing dream item was the pink drink that boasted a strawberry lemonade flavor. The crushed ice added to the appeal. They have a great selection of merch and drink options. Ordering can be done at the bar or through the app to include food options at the food truck.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Stone Brewing, and have been to their Richmond location quite a few times. I love the seating areas both inside and outside - super spacious, clean and welcoming. They have a wide variety of beer available in all different sizes, which is perfect if you want to sample a few. There is also a huge merchandise selection. The staff has always been so nice and attentive. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
Gotta say I was fortunate to have found this spot nearby while on a road trip. I've had Stone IPA quite a few times, but never know they had an east coast brewery. The beer, as expected, was awesome and a nice variety, but aside from that the brewery itself and the real estate it was on was pretty sweet. They also had a food truck with some nice options. I'll def be back.

Yelp
Outstanding brewery! When Stone decided to bring their East Coast operations to Richmond, VA was exciting news and they keep making great beers. The brewery has a supercool industrial vibe with plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. As always, the beers are fantastic, but the best thing is the "brewery only" beers you can get. Servers are great, as is everything else about it. We relocated a few years ago, so haven't been in the Richmond area since 2018, but we loved our visit during a trip back recently.

Yelp
Oh, my Stone still does not disappoint. Atmosphere is fun with a great staff that are friendly and helpful. Beer choices are always consistently delicious and available both in tap and cans. My go-to brewery when I'm in Richmond. Plus, Stone is minutes away from many concert venues and restaurants. Large free parking around the brewery. Plenty of outside seating with water dishes available for the doggies. Stone is also a stop for bicyclists on the capital trail. There are lots of merchandise for sale and a Stone food truck on site. Additionally, there are scan codes for ordering food and beers at each table inside and out. I'm very pleased with Stone Brewery.

Yelp
I had heard about Stone Brewing from people and seen some of the beers in stores, etc.. but I had no idea how large an operation this site is! It is huge! They were also recently bought by a large corporation so it will be interesting to see how that impacts their beer. This location is down by the river way downtown. However, they have two parking lots for patrons which is a huge plus for a downtown business. Like I said... this place is huge... it looks like they have a large room upstairs but we didnt go up there. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly... we may have been the only people without one! LOL I had the beer that recently won an award... Lime and Sea Salt Lager. My wife had a citrus/hibiscus flavored beer, which was quite good. Both of the beers were very good. We will definitely go back! Cool place The only negative was the food truck. I think that it is Stone Brewing food truck as it had their logo on it. We ordered the pretzel bites with beer cheese... We go them fairly quickly but the pretzels bites were cold all the way through and the amount of beer cheese was not enough for the bites... Definitely go for the beer... skip the food truck

Yelp
What will they think of next? Every time we visit, the special releases are insane. Too many choices Great place to bring family and friends.

Yelp
Silver Fox checking in! So if you're like me and love craft breweries you may be more wary of the bigger places. Stone has done a unique thing by staying true to their roots but expanding nationally. When I lived in Richmond this was a common place I would come to on a weekend, I technically could walk to it I lived so close. I drove from Coastal VA to enjoy one of their beer events where they opened a bunch of their rare beers where we got to enjoy in the back where they brew the good stuff. The staff is always super friendly, and they do tours that are fun and intuitive, they always have a food truck with really good choices!
google avatar

Yelp
Arrogant Bastard, the beer that brought me into the craft beer world. I have a different view on beers these days but these peeps at Stone, know what they're doing!! It's not the OG, but Stone has definitely taken a foothold in Richmond. The location is peaceful, down in the cut by the river, and the brews are still delicious! The number of collabs they do with others is cool but they definitely hold their ground on both coasts. The setup is comfy, the beer tenders are very attentive, and the outdoor area is nice with plenty of seating. There are even instances where they have live music. Stop in, grab a powerful, tasty brew, and relax

Yelp
Love this place. Especially the vibe on a slow, chill Sunday night. We tried their new wings that were delicious, though a little small.

Yelp
Stone Brewing this right here screams home for me being a native of SoCali I've been enjoying their beer for years that is until I moved out here where it's hard to find so when my travels took me near here you sooo know I stopped in for a flight and some to take home! First up for my flight was the original IPA still to this day I feel this is the best IPA out there as the balance is perfect in just so many ways as it's not to bitter and not to hoppy so it makes for a awesome drink every time. Also I had to try the Mexican beer it was yummy and kinda cool how it tasted like salt and lime as well as a traditional beer from Mexico. My friend not being the biggest beer drinker I got some of the seltzer she enjoyed them but not as much as the beer come to find which really made me smile as Stone is and always will be one of the best breweries in the county. The only real downside here was they don't have a restaurant inside like the one in San Diego does because their food was awesome just like the beer but hey you make different things in different places I get it. Overall super awesome having a taste or home out here and something that I miss I'm sure I'll be here again at some point I just don't know when that will be until then stay thirsty and it's one more round it's bottles to the ground!

Yelp
Loved it here. I've been wanting to come here since I visited the taproom in San Diego. Large parking lot and a very reasonable merchandise as well. I was filling out the Richmond Beer Trail and they stamped and gave us our beer gear which was a beanie. Lots of orange style beers on tap which was pretty good. Ordered a flight of 4: Cimmerian Portal - really good Stout, easy to drink and not too heavy. Great flavor as well. Tangerine Express Hazy IPA - this one was too hoppy for me but a great citrus flavor. Orange Scream Hazy IPA - probably one of my favorites. It had that Milkshake IPA flavor and had really good notes of the vanilla and oranges. FML with Orange & Hibiscus - also great flavor and easy to drink. This would probably be my 2nd pick, you do get the notes of the Hibiscus. Super friendly staff and there are QR Codes on the table as well where you can order.

Yelp
Great beers with many choices! It was good to get to a recognizable brand. Very solid IPA's!

Yelp
Great local brewery in Fulton Hill area. It's located near the river and off the Capital Trail. They over a lot of their signature beers and tours! They even have market events with local vendors. The environment is clean modern industrial. Great for pets and to bring kids. Def worth the stop if you're in the area.
google avatar

Jen W.

Yelp
Great space and atmosphere to enjoy a couple brews. We went on a Saturday and the brewery had live music inside the taproom and a food truck right outside.
google avatar

Nicky S.

Yelp
Popped in for a first visit and although it was a short one it was certainly a sweet one. There was music playing by the Lingo Band which was fabulous. I would have stayed longer just to listen to them! We had a flight of beer (4 of our choosing) and we enjoyed them all! Each were 5oz pours that were served in a mini crate. The brewery itself was pretty cool looking, as well as the exterior, and walk up to the building. People were enjoying sitting outside with their dogs, as well. I was surprised to see no fire pits, though. Maybe I missed them? I would definitely stop back in for another visit and try some more beers.
google avatar

Kendall C.

Yelp
Despite having mostly ipas, there is something here for everyone. Came on a warm Saturday afternoon and enjoyed some beers and live music inside. The outside space was full of people and dogs and has quite a view. I often don't enjoy live music indoors, but the music was the perfect level, you could sing a long if you wanted or carry on a conversation. My husband really appreciated all of the furniture they have made out of barrels.

Yelp
On occasion, we go out on adventures around the city, and just spontaneously explore whatever we come across. Stone Brewing was a happy discovery. We had driven around the brewery many times and couldn't figure out how to get in (kind of like a large puzzle box). A lucky left turn brought us to the bridge that leads to this wonderful spot. We bellied up to the taps and discovered that we could sample a few before purchasing (sweet!). I settled on 'You had me at churro" maibock (deep, dark, with subtle hints of cinnamon sweetness), and my fellow explorers selected the Stone Winter Harvest. I like that you have the option for a pint or a 5 oz. glass. We wandered through the moon market upstairs and sat outside on the patio. There is seating on the patio (with heat lamps) and inside (upstairs and downstairs). A food truck located outside provides andy yummy treats that you might require. We didn't order food, but after looking at the menu, we decided that we definitely needed a stop here again. In addition to purchasing beer to be enjoyed here, you can grab some to go. Have a chat with your tapmaster and they can direct you to the best option (growler or 4-pack). Stone Brewing is one of those spots where the product does all the talking, and there's no need for pretentious decor or silly games. The tasting room/patio is totally comfortable, welcoming, and makes a great gathering place. The folks behind the taps are knowledgeable about the brewery and the product, and can answer any questions you might have. If you have a little time, and are looking for a spot to relax and enjoy some great beer, then this is your spot!

Yelp
I love Stone. They have fires, tons of sitting space, ANDDDD MOST IMPORTANTLY they have housemate dog biscuits. If you have a puppy, bring out for a beer.
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Stone was a must visit for us during our trip to Richmond and it did not disappoint. The bar area is closed off during COVID-19 so when you arrive you can choose to sit inside or outside. Once seated you pull the menu up by scanning the QR code that is on the table and order your beer. You can also order beer to-go (they will keep it cold until you leave) and merchandise. The bartender will bring your beer over when it's ready (our bartender was awesome on another note). I ordered the Anniversary DIPA and a CherAde, both were tasty. We also saw goats before leaving! They were outside grazing. I'm excited that I got to try this West Coast brewery on the East Coast.

Yelp
Really neat brewery ducked off away from the city. The campus is really nicely done and the bridge leading to the brewery gives you a nice opportunity for photo ops. Large selection of beers, merch, and seating. Family friendly, large group friendly, all around friendly! Stop by and have a beer!
google avatar

Karen K.

Yelp
Love the beer, but the food truck is terrible. If you're going to prohibit outside food, what you do offer should be of good quality. Greasy and oversalted, this is food you could buy pre-made from a grocery store, but at super-inflated prices.
google avatar

Yelp
This large warehouse is centered in downtown Richmond. It is located conveniently near the Capital Trails park. This brewery originated from the west coast area of San Diego. The outdoor seating is massive and there is a bridge that known as the brew ridge trail that is great for walking your dogs, taking a stroll or biking. They have many IPA and double IPA drinks. A broad selection from fruity to citrusy, tart, hoppy or chocolate nutty, bitter tastes to accommodate your liking. For desserts and appetizers i love the richmond nightingale ice cream! We tried the chips and salsa. The chips come bagged and the salsa dip that is not chunky but smooth. All of there brews and snacks come from Virginia. Due to covid i didn't get to enjoy the inside. But get a small glimpse. The brewery is actual huge inside and there is an elevator inside. The outdoor seating is nice and scenic and the service here is humans and dog-friendlyand accommodating. The easy order system through scanning your order..QR code is convenient for checking out the menu and instant ordering. Trust me, you will be served quick! This is a must go brewery!!! We tried the stony thunder, the beer momosa/stone brunch drink (like Blue Moon but better) and others. I love their stouts, pilsner drink as well.

Yelp
No long review needed. Very good. Don't miss out. Stone IPA is top shelf IPA. I've been to Liberty Station location in SD. Proud they used RVA as their east coast location. You'll enjoy. Highly recommend!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
If you like the Southern California location you won't be disappointed in this east coast location
google avatar

Kathleen D.

Yelp
Stone chose such a great beer city for their East Coast operation, but I often find myself overlooking them since there are so many top-tier brewery options here in RVA. Since moving here in Aug. 2017, I've visited twice. My first visit was for their Puerto Rico hurricane benefit. I was still so new in town and didn't really have friends just yet, so I showed up solo, dropped my donation in their box, and tried a couple beers. I remember the weather was nice so I chose a table outside but it didn't feel like the type of place to just sit and chill, so I finished my drinks and moved along not long after. My second visit was ten days ago while hosting a group of about 15-20. Again, the weather was gorgeous so we started our time outside before migrating to a long table inside. Since it's a spacious tasting room, it was an easy fit for our group. Associates were friendly but they did charge me too much. It was only off by a few bucks so I didn't get back in line to say anything, but it's definitely something I'll keep an eye on in the future. I'd say I am a fan but in moderation. I'm not an IPA drinker so that could also be clouding my opinion, but it's just not among my top places to imbibe. Some things to know: 1. There's ongoing construction in the area and sometimes rideshares can get confused trying to find the parking lot. Be prepared for that. And because of all the messy roads, I'd say pass on a walk from Shockoe Bottom. Probably not the safest route. 2. They offer growler fills, tours, a ton of merch, and bottles to go. Table seating. It seems to get too busy to have bar seats. 3. They ID everyone from what I've seen. 4. You can bike here since they're near the Capital Trail. 5. I think some sort of restaurant venue is in the works for the future. Should be an exciting development!

Yelp
Came in at 11 am on a Friday. Morning that is. And thankfully, I had the place pretty much to myself. The staff treated me great, explaining the difference between the different IPAs and they had maybe 8 or 9 on draft, never mind the darker beers and sours. Props to them for also having Nightingale ice cream bars in stock. Recommendations: Ripper: Excellent pale ale, that gets close to an IPA, but not quite to that level of hoppiness. This beer is citrusy, hoppy, and smooth at the same time. I'm Peach Double IPA: Despite the highly unfortunate political connotations, it's probably the best peach beer I've ever had, and I either love peach drinks or hate them. Not too sweet, not too tart, but a good full flavor. Fear.Movie.Lions Double IPA: When you drink a double IPA, it can taste pretty heavy sometimes. This was not the case here. It had a little bit of citrus on the front and even a hint of peppery spark on the back. A really pleasant surprise.

Yelp
Stone Brewing is really an amazing place to try out. I hadn't had any of their beers before but when my brother in law, who is a huge fan suggested it on a trip, I trusted his good taste. The brewery itself is situation right in the downtown area, underneath the train track and sort of in a hidden area. The outside had a few lounge chairs for hanging out and the inside had a good amount of tables. The entire brewery had a really neat industrial feel to it and you could see into the brewing room from upstairs. When it comes to beer, Stone mostly has IPAs which is perfect for me. I ordered the Fear. Movie. Lions and fell in love! It is a double IPA packed with hoppy flavor yet balanced with a hint of citrus. It sits at 8.5% ABV and 60 IBUs. I will definately be on the search on it in stores! The brewery lets you bring in outside food so we ordered doordash and hung out for a bit. Stone is absolutely a great place for beer aficionados!

Yelp
You have to cross a foot bridge to get here. I appreciate a quality bridge. My wife doesn't. It's a constant struggle to bring her anywhere that requires even minimal bravery. Anyways, this place is named Stone Brewing, but it rocks (ha). The beer is top tier and the scenery is gorgeous. I bought a shirt and I look very attractive in it according to literally everyone there - and no, I won't show you freaks.
google avatar

Joshua S.

Yelp
How can you go wrong on Stone Beer! Tastes so good when it hits your lips! Lol! When we are driving down 95 we always make a pit stop here. Try it out.
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
If not for GPS I would have NEVER found this place. Their flagship beer is the Arrogant Bastard. Aptly named for a new brewery in town who thinks they need no signage. I've never tried their beer but after trying their flagship brew, I have to say, what's the deal? Your GPS will take you to a large parking lot. Walk across a long bridge over a creek and then you'll see a large building, still no sign or logo but when you walk in... you'll Know you found ground zero for arrogance.

Yelp
I love the look of the brewery, yummy beers. When I went there the pos system was down. Glad I had cash.

Yelp
Like a proud mama, I write this review. I have been to the original Stone Brewery over a couple of years during my college years and beyond while living in San Diego. I watched in awe as it got bigger and bigger with each visit. My last visit, however, was the most memorable because we discovered the Chocolate Mint Stout and the Jindia, which are now few of my favorite beers of all time. So you can imagine how excited I was to visit Stone's second city-location in the whole of United States! The operations are HUGE. Our tour guide was great and walked us through the fermentation process, and we even got to check out the nerd lab and the bottling section! Honestly, the vast space and all that steel made me imagine an awesome fight scene for Deadpool or something as Ryan Reynolds dodges bullets and runs between the fermentation tanks and there is glorious (but terribly wasteful) beer raining everywhere. I am also surprised that Stone still does free tours and tastings, which is quite unheard of for such a big brewery. The pours are quite generous as well. The Chocolate Mint Stout was not on the menu, as it is a seasonal beer, but I still enjoyed sipping through and discovering their new beers. (But Jindia is on the menu, and we got on that before the tour!) Stone also sells dog treats made from the fermentation process (but sans alcohol), so I got some to feed to my boyfriend's dogs and they absolutely loved the treats! Good for humans and dogs - go check out Stone Brewing!

Yelp
Great service and great beer! I had a great time on a Monday afternoon. Outdoor seating with QR codes to scan. You place your order on your phone and they bring it out to you. They were very quick to bring the beers out! Prices were way more affordable than any brewery i had been to before!

Yelp
If you are like me and dislike IPA's and hoppy beers I'll save you some energy reading.... don't go unless you don't plan on drinking anything. You will hate it. Unfortunately, I also fall into that category. I was not a fan of the beer at all. There was a dark beer and I love dark beers and even that was really hard to drink. If you love IPA's then this is the place for you! Similar to other Yelpers, we circled around awhile before we turned in the parking lot where we sort of guessed was the entrance. We got there around 1:30pm and there were not too many cars.. luckily there was another car that pulled in when we did... There is a pretty long bridge that you have to walk through to get to the tasting area of the brewery. As for ambience of the brewery it was really nice, very open and has a rustic feel. I really like the inside and outdoor area... if only I like the beer. My husband doesn't mind IPA's but he even had trouble drinking the beers. Do note that their tastings are $2 or more each... and it is quite a hefty pour. Unfortunately I have to give it a 2 because I didn't enjoy the beer at all... but there are some nice things about the place.

Yelp
It's Stone Brewing. Not some shanty local Richmond brewery in a parking lot. Stone Brewing is rated as a WORLD CLASS Brewery by the two largest beer enthusiast websites, RateBeer and BeerAdvocate. Stone Brewing has been voted by the readers of Beer Advocate as the #1 "All Time Top Brewery on Planet Earth." Their home base is in my home state of California. In fact, Stone is the largest brewery in Southern California. As of 2015, it was the 10th largest craft brewery in the United States and 15th largest brewery overall. The Commonwealth of Virginia went to great lengths to show Stone Brewing that Richmond would be serious player in the craft beer industry. They recently celebrated their one year anniversary in Richmond just a few weeks ago. In another year or two the restaurant, Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens, will open and I'm really excited for that. Although mostly known for their West Coast IPA's Stone has something for everyone. This past weekend I had a flight with only one Pale Ale onboard. The rest were: "Who You Callin' Wussie" - Northern German Pilsner "24 Carrot Golden Ale" a Belgian-Style Ale "Stone Koteka Rise & Grind" - Imperial Red Ale aged in Bourbon Barrels and lastly... "Stone Ripper" - Pale Ale with glorious California cascade hops and a mild 40 IBU. It was too nice outside for a Stout but they had those too. What more is there to say? I'm forever happy that California is coming to me.

Yelp
What a Beautifully invigorating and INVITING brewery patio!!! OMG! When we first walked up I was so please! If you haven't been, the backdrop is right out of a movie set. The brewery is tucked away behind a patch of trees, you walk down a path that crosses a bridge to see a food truck?!?!? However, once you pass the brightly painted truck...BANG!! you are at a patio of people sharing time, there are Adirondack chairs set up by the creek, tables with umbrellas & open air tables that are spaced perfectly apart, Industrial light bulb strands that set a modern mood, dog watering stations in different areas and lovely well behaved dogs enjoying just being out. I really dislike posting this kind of review, just because it spreads more negativity into our already strife-filled world...so plz know it is hard to post this about our Friday 4-22-22 visit to Stone Brewery. The brewery has a wonderful system where you scan a QR code at your table and place your order, pay (or open a tab). There is no waiting for a guest attendant to get your order or going back and forth into the brewery. You can order food from the food truck and they text you when your order is ready! I was so very happy that our friends invited us to a place we'd never been and that they had experienced and felt we would like. We did enjoy and like everything, until the entire interaction train-wrecked with our 3rdand final table attendant. A snapshot of her "customer service" went as follows. We had a bit of a slip up ordering our second round of beer (which was close to closing time), so when she brought 1 beer out we apologized because we knew she'd have to come right back to deliver another (when she could have delivered both at the same time). Her response to us as she rolled her eyes and walked away was, "well do whatever you have to do on your phone." When they were clearly closing, she walked passed our table and stated she'd be right back to "get our empties." When she returned I still had half a glass of beer and asked if they had a "throw-away" that I could transfer to, since we were still sitting there and her response as she looked at me with disgust was, "that's against the law, this isn't Louisiana!" ...our table chatter came to a complete halt. I was trying to finish my beer quickly and she stated with a disdainful smirk, "well you don't HAVE to finish it." I replied, "I'd like to...you know how much this beer costs here." She clapped back, "I do know, I work here, YOU'RE the one who chose to come here!" On that note, I handed her my unfinished beer and my husband paid our $70.00 tab for 4 beers, 3 tacos and chips & salsa (you can decided if you think it was a bit costly). At 52 years old, I don't go out and patronize businesses to be disrespected and embarrassed by a college aged kid who barely takes the time to put herself together before going to work. Our friends felt so bad and embarrassed that they suggested Stone Brewery, my husband was angry and at this point...I won't be going back because I want to.

Yelp
I love Stone and am so happy they've found their east coast home right here in Richmond. OK, so yes I am one of "those" IPA people. And if you're one too, then Stone is the place for you. But IPAs aside, this is a very cool spot. I'm super happy that they've added seating outside. I love that it's right off the Capitol Trail- a lot of cyclists use the parking lot as a start/finish point for a ride (and a bike shuttle service actually uses it for a drop off/pick up point). The tour is really nice and a bargain- about a 30 min tour followed by four 5 ounce samples all for $5 (and you get to keep the sample glass). Staff here are the best! And there's a run club on Tuesday evenings.

Yelp
Straight up 3 stars. The facility is very impressive, massive and one can tell Stone has done well for themselves. It's very industrial with a lot of exposed beams, concrete and rustic wood surfaces. The beer is just ok, at best, to me. Some of the imperial IPAs I've had from this location are overly sweet to the point that I get characteristics of barleywine with over ripe dark fruits. Perhaps the lines were dirty or the wrong beer was poured? Staff are very friendly and helpful with choices on menu. I like to stop in from time to time to dip my toes in the water but for the most part the beers don't suit my palate. If you really dig the bold west coast hop punch in your ipas, this place is for you.

Yelp
Stone Brewing Richmond is fantastic. You park in an adjacent lot and walk under the Amtrak tracks to reach an quiet patio area overlooking a canal. There are goats grazing in the grass and a covered bridge leading across the canal. The inside has a great selection of craft beer and the staff is friendly and attentive. A great gem for a beer on a summer eve

Yelp
Super cute brewery right next to the train tracks. Delicious IPA's. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly. Only recommendation would be some music- but if you're the type that prefers the quiet outdoors you could appreciate it.

Yelp
Very nice building and outdoor space. Beer was decent, and they had a good variety. Service sucked though. Staff was not friendly at all.

Yelp
This visit would be a 5-star visit had it not been for the sucky bartenders at the bar to the left as you walk in. On the right...one lone woman had a neat line and did a great job serving everyone in a friendly and expeditious manner. On the left, two bartenders who were struggling to keep up and ignored people who had been standing for 10+ minutes to serve people who just walked up. I finally gave up with trying to get a beer from the bar on the left side and moved to the right where bartender extraordinaire had everyone served in minutes. After a 10+ minute wait and still no service on the left side, I got a beer within 3 minutes on the right side. Thank you beertender goddess! Now, for the beer...Stone, you are a beer savant. My Xocoveca was miraculous and the smoked stout...hello! I just wish I had food options so I could stick around and work my way through the beer menu. Soon, very soon. I love the facility and pledge my allegiance to Stone in RVA...I will support you because you chose us. Please, pretty please work out your beertender issues. Just have the girl bartender who worked right bar tonight train everyone else...she should be running the front of house.

Yelp
This place is good. Kind of has a weird location but at least there is a lot of parking available. I like their drinks but I wasn't drinking on the day I went and their were not many alternatives for someone that wanted to stay sober.

Yelp
WOW what a find. Living on the west coast I was surprised to find this on a yelp search. Didn't know this is a huge brewery, with a really nice tasting room. Stone in bottles from the store is good. Stone on tap at the brewery is amazing!!! If your a craft beer fan plan on Uber or lift. PS Don't smoke on the patio even if nobody's there they don't like that. Mapping directions took us to the loading dock. There is a huge parking area on the next driveway with a cool bridge to walk over. Stop by and check this place out it was fun!!
