Google
Pretty tasty thin crust pizza, pepperoni not greasy. The side ceaser salad was just ok. Pinball machines added a nice touch, not very busy on a Tuesday night . Street parking only which can be an issue. Fast service.

Google
absolutely a BANGER and a must visit for a pizza lover Service is absolutely boof pack and when you order they look like they might kill themselves or you for even daring to want to eat pizza. Its comical how angsty and lame the dude serving us was, brother was so embarrassingly rude it could convince me not to come back even though i enjoyed the pizza so thoroughly. The pizza is gas cannot lie though

Google
one of the best slices i've had in portland. fattttt slice for 4.50. epic. great music complimenting the vibes

Google
I don’t like writing bad reviews, but…… They deserve one. I no longer go to the Hawthorne location because the service is so poor. The pizza is good. If you can get it. Location is awesome. I had 3 different tries eating here in the last 6 months and left 3 times because of a lack of slices. I mean like 2 slices of veggie and that’s it. I asked each time if there were pizzas on their way out and/or what the wait time was. Either got a stone cold dead eye stare or was told they weren’t making more-as if I was crazy for asking. You sell pizza by the slice people. No pizza place waits until all slices are gone before starting more. It’s not difficult. Full disclosure, I have never worked at a pizza place, but I would think you would want to never run out of pepperoni and cheese slices. I feel like the problem is staffing because the Belmont location is NEVER like this. Belmont SFNY staff is great. Been there 20+ times. They have pizza ready or they are making it. Always. And they are friendly.

Google
I order a pizza meaty pizza and expected tons of meat and flavor with onions and other ingredients. I got my order and I was very disappointed by the look and how thin everything was. The ingredients were just rolling off the pizzas due to how small the ingredients were. Secondly, there was hardly any pizza sauce and the dough was beyond dry. There was barely any flavor or none at all. I feel like this pizza was already frozen since the crust was hard to bite into. In my opinion, I do not believe this was a NEW York pizza and paid 35.00 for 7 slices. Everyone was looking forward to the pizza whom Portland constantly talks about this place and the reviews. My whole team I bought it for were all disappointed by everything and for the prices, it didn’t even serve 10 people.

Google
It's been 18 months of pandemic time since I've gone anywhere for a slice. When I was finally feeling confident-ish enough to look for a place for a weekday lunchtime visit, the searches I did for my old standbys showed that most of them are doing whole pie take-out or delivery only, and they generally don't open until 4 PM. SFNY indicated that they were open for lunch, and serving slices. I was happy to see that all the employees were masked, and that the space for visitors was well marked for customers to keep an appropriate distance from each other. As for the pizza - it was just what I hoped for. I had a cheese slice with just the right balance between sauce and cheese, as well as a pepperoni slice that was perfectly greasy, just the way it should be. Prices were reasonable, and, though I didn't opt for the '$5 slice and a beer' special, it was great to see it available. I'm still trying to avoid indoor spaces in general, but I'm glad to see that Straight From New York is available for pizza by the slice, while keeping the experience safe for their employees and their customers.

Google
This pizza was fine, but it isn't good enough to deal with the surly staff and mediocre setting. I get it, customer service sucks. But maybe stick to back-of-house work if you can't at least pretend to tolerate other humans?

Google
Really good when it's fresh out the oven. Very thin crust, and melty cheese and sauce. Limited space, but so is a New York pizza place, so I say that's pretty authentic.

Yelp
Got a slice of cheese - DELICIOUS! At $4.50, an absolute bargain. Extremely limited seating, but totally worth a visit if you're nearby.

Yelp
I'm surprised I haven't given them a review yet; since, this is one of my favorite places for pizza by the slice. They aren't across the street from Baghdad theater. It's in the middle of a happening area. The inside is not very big but they have enough places to sit including bar stools. The pizza is thin and tasty. The service that we experienced here is always more than adequate. I just like the vibe here. It's very easy going.

Yelp
Not average, not the best, definitely a fan and will return. I got pepperoni and wife got chicken, artichoke, spinach. I got a limeade cider on draft and she got a can of Rainier. And a breadstick with marinara. $23.50 Service was friendly, cool to see the man making the pizza in the front. I'll coming back for sure. Notable specials: 2 slices and and soda $10 1 cheese slice and tall boy $5.50

Yelp
What wonderful food. Great service, great pizza. The ambiance was absolutely wonderful. Pesto chicken melted in my mouth with wonderful ranch.

Yelp
If there's one thing I can say about this place, it's eat it fresh at location and do not order to go! Anytime we've ordered from here it just does not taste the same at home. Crust is always too hard at home. Comes out perfect when you eat it at straight from New York. One of our pizzas was cooked perfectly. The other one was overcooked and had all burnt crust. It was a bummer that we ordered breadsticks, but when they brought the pizzas out to us, they let us know they had run out and had to Refund.

Gavin B.

Yelp
Best pizza I've ever had I'm thinking. Service was great and the ambiance is sick. Love the marg pizza and it was gone too soon :( the music was great too
google avatar

Keely N.

Yelp
I haven't been to Straight From New York Pizza in years, but was disappointed by the vegan slices of pizza. It was room temperature. Crust was also dry from my perspective, but the cider was yummy.

Yelp
Came here for pizza week, and I'm being extremely kind to edit my original thoughts about the pizza and the place because they were not friendly. We came here later in the evening, and our initial impression should have been our warning. The two people working the counter didn't seem to care that we were there, they seemed to be focused on a side conversation they were having, and it became awkward for us to stand there and wait for service while they chatted away. Eventually one of them came over and helped us. The pizza symbolic of the service. It felt like whoever made it could care less. It was supposed to be Shiitake mushrooms, daikon radish, braised beef, scallions, panko crumbs. If any of those things were on that slice, it would be news to me. There was no flavor, at all. Not one distinctive flavor on the pizza. It was offensive. This had always been on my list to try and combined with the other location, I'm relieved to never have to think about coming again unless something drastically changes.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
The pizza week pizza was good. Fast, unique, and tasty. This place needs a deep clean though. From the door to the credit card reader...it would be a more pleasant experience if it were cleaner.

Yelp
Super solid NY pizza spot! This is one of my favorite pizza joints in Portland. A large section of slices to pick from daily (around $4.50 per slice), a great super thin NY style crust (easy to fold too). I've tried 4 different types of pizzas from Straight From New York Pizza, see ratings below: 5/5 - The Vegan: by far their best pizza, super light and flavorful, currently my favorite vegan pizza in Portland! 4/5 - The Five Cheese: with its pesto base, this cheesy pizza packs a unique blend of flavors for any pesto and cheese lover. 3/5 - The Greek: it's one of their most popular pizzas, but it just doesn't hit the mark for me in terms of flavor. 4/5 - Classic Cheese: it's simple and elegant, good sauce and crust, no complaints here. The service was always quick and friendly, and the ambiance is exactly what you expect at a classic little pizza joint like this one. The other location is just as good, I've been to both!
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
One of the best in Portland. It's of great value and can be bought by the slice. They have a wonderful daily special: two slices and a drink that is hard to beat anywhere. Really cool vibe!!
google avatar

Nuala R.

Yelp
Hit the spot! I stopped by for a slice , I had the Greek. It was perfect! Crust, flavors absolutely yum I'm going back for a whole one to take home for dinner.

Xtine D.

Yelp
Zero stars really. I came here with 3 friends and we should have not stayed. The place was dirty. They don't wipe down the tables. There was water on the floor. A man covered in filth was sitting there going up to people asking for a slice. He kept going behind the counter and was trying to get into the kitchen. The pizza was greasy and flavorless. What happened to this chain? Did the owners sell it to people who don't care about quality of the food or customer service. Also the music was way too loud, like a bar. Just a horrible disgusting time there. I should have asked for my money back and gone somewhere else.
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
They should change the name cause this pizza is nothing like New York. Super flimsy, pretty bland. $4.25 for a Cheese Slice. All around not impressed.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
We were here for pizza week and this one was one of the best we tried! I mean come on, fried chicken on pizza?! It was executed so well though. This location is great, too and makes for some great people watching. Th service was quick and friendly! I can't recommend this place enough for a quick slice on the go or an entire pizza.
google avatar

Tyler P.

Yelp
Really good thin sliced pizza. We choose this place out of convenience but are we sure glad we did. The pizza was thin crusted, we ordered the Margarita pizza. May be one of the best Margarita pizza I've had. Place was fine decent atmosphere. Staff was fine, the cook was extra nice. Overall a good experience and would recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
The way things line up, sunny day and a perfect pepperoni slice--plenty of pepperoni, nice stretchy cheese, firm but foldable crust, slightly charred. Did not take advantage of maybe the city's best deal--a slice of cheese and a tallboy for $5. Friendly service. And to complete the experience, sitting at the counter at the front window, watching Hawthorne stroll by.

J F.

Yelp
This place is in a great location...Too bad the pizza is mediocre at best. Go elsewhere and thank me later...
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
Great pizza and staff and 5 stars but what the actual... They allowed a person to walk around inside asking everyone for money with his meth pipe in his hand and his shorts at his knees. Thankfully he was wearing dirty white briefs at least. Staff just ignored it for 20 minutes besides at one point asking him to pull his pants up outside. He didn't, but at least they said something? I don't blame the staff or anyone working there. I live close by and I get it. But draw a line somewhere in those situations lol. When the clearly uncomfortable family are struggling with it and the women eating alone he's staring at are uncomfortable... I don't know... Again great pizza and enjoy the place!
google avatar

Yelp
Crispy, thin crust NY Pizza... you can tell it'll be good watching the chefs tossing the dough in the back. First time there, the best pizza I've had in PDX in quite awhile. Their sauce must be quality tomatoes, Centos or some kind of San Marzanos. It has that excellent sweet flavor, not acidic at all. The gluten-free crust option is pretty amazing... as good as the reg dough, if anything it's even crispier. I forgot our leftovers ;( left them behind and was pretty darn sad about it, not gonna lie...

Eric G.

Yelp
I'd only go if you're starving and in a hurry. Went for our 10th time over the years, 11 AM on a weekend, and the pizza was well below average for any pizza by the slice place. Unpleasantly tough crust, patchy chewy cheese. It was early in the day, so was this yesterday's pizza reheated? With kids in tow, I am usually not picky about music being played but this pushed it. I'm fine with hip hop that has afew swear words and the kids won't notice it usually. But this was loud, very clear, and song after song with the worst of the worst swear words, played so loudly it drowned out conversation.
google avatar

Noah D.

Yelp
The crunch and crust was my favorite part of my single slice but the flavors were okay. I would like to try another flavor if I get a chance to go back but being from out of the area I will most likely not be drawn for this pie alone. Service was quick and the beer selection was decent. It was fun people watching from the window
google avatar

Yelp
Mediocre pizza, with the shi*tiest service with an unprovoked attitude. I get it's Hawthorne, I get its NY Pizza and I get your cool. The only thing this place has going for it is the location.
google avatar

Joseph W.

Yelp
I Came to get some pizza female red head server has the worst attitude very unhygienic pizza was very good she touched my pizza with her bare hands after she's touched her hair and everything service was trash

Yelp
The first time I went to the STRAIGHT FROM NEW YORK PIZZA location on Hawthorne Blvd was only a few months ago but I've gone back a whole bunch of times since then. In fact, I'd have gone even more if the parking on Hawthorne wasn't so difficult. I love really, really thin crust and SFNY does it just right...it's really thin and has the right amount of crunch when you bite into it. Lately, I've been craving their fabulous Margherita pizza...their version has slices of tomato on it in addition to the requisite globs of fresh mozzarella and basil. (Let me explain: Not all pizza places put tomato slices on their Margherita, and (to me) that just means it's lacking a really important ingredient.) Plus, with SFNY's thin crust, the goodness is magnified. Also, I want to give a shout out to Adam, the man who is almost always at the front counter...great friendly service every time!

Yelp
SFNY - more like straight into my mouth, please. They sure know how to sling a mean pie. I tried them out for the first time during Portland Pizza week (the best year out of the whole year, am I right?!) and ordered a whole pie of their special - James and the Giant Slice (prosciutto, roasted peaches, chèvre, balsamic reduction, basil). I love a sweet/savory combo, so this was totally up my alley. I also love fruit on pizza (pear, apples, peaches) - I had high hopes for James. I phoned in my order and waited an additional 15 minutes to the said pick-up time. No hard feelings though, it was Pizza Week, and they were insanely busy. The pizza was beauuutiful (although I realized they weren't consistent throughout the week on how fully topped the pizzas were. Some days looked sparser than others). While I had high hopes, the flavors fell a bit short. I tasted each of the said components, but nothing really stood out. The saving grace of the pizza was the chèvre, hands down. It added an oomph that was lacking from the other players. Solid crust, chewy, thin, well-cooked. SFNY is a classic in Portland and deserves a spot in my pizza rotation.

Yelp
They delivered my pizza without as little as a knock or a text. It shows that the pizza still hasn't been delivered so we called about the delay, they stated it was delivered a half hour ago. I paid for marinara I never received and they do not notify you neither by text or by app when they leave it on your step. The food was cold and items were missing.

Yelp
Came here at 11 pm after we had been looking for a place to eat for hours. The service was great even for what is considered a late time. The vibe was great and the pinball machine worked so that's always good. Food was fresh and very hot which I think is a good thing and overall the experience ate.

Yelp
Great pizza. Service is just ok. Had a bad experience when my immature teenager mad a bad joke. Our pizzas took twice as long. Always do take out so can't speak to the ambiance.
google avatar

Kylie C.

Yelp
The pizza is pretty great and they have some pretty good deals. I had to check it out since a friend of mine recommended it! We got a basic pepperoni slice and another slice that had bacon and jalapeños on it. I'm not sure what it was called but it was great! My favorite part about this whole thing is that they stick your slice in their quick little oven so it comes out to you nice and hot and a little crisp. Parking might be difficult but you can find something on Hawthorne and take a nice little walk and pop into all the stores on your way there!
google avatar

J L.

Yelp
Pretty bland pizza (both crust and sauce) I would recommend Sizzle Pie instead for NY style.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Amazing New York style pizza that's super thin and crisp, great chew and texture on the crust, slices as big as your face, covered in marinara, cheese and delicious toppings... made me feel as if I were back in the Big Apple. Great place for a night out with friends to order some pies and drink beer, or just grabbing a quick slice of pie to satisfy the munchies. Very chic retro style decor, nothing too fancy. Couple of tables, and countertops, and pinball machines. They have late night and daily specials like a few bucks off whole pies, and a slice and pint for $7. What a steal! If you love NY style pie, Straight from New York Pizza is the place for you. Plus they're also one of the few places in Portland that opens late that's NOT a bar!

Yelp
Pizza Week Review: 3 of 10 consecutive pizza slices Came for that pizza week stunt pizza hitter y'all... I saw the matsubi slice and just had too... I have only eaten spam a handful of times, all Hawaiian places, and if not done right just tastes like a bunch of... well spam! Here is the huge question, would I order this pizza again, for that is a no... Some variation, yes!! The seaweed was the deal breaker as I just don't like dried seaweed outside miso or sushi. It just tasted a bit like fish pizza. Now the spam, wow they had it squared away, literally and not! The sauce was so damn good, I think I could get this sauce in every pizza known to man and love it... The crust, is always good from this place, even in its other locations, so worry not about that. The shop is a must, the staff is nice, the slices come out hot, and they have a great slice selection and location for foot traffic... As I think NY style pizza should be eaten on on your feet!

Yelp
First time here during Pizza Week; we were impressed. Snagged a slice of the special "Hawaii 5-0-3" ($2); it contained SPAM, pineapple, and nori. Toppings were not overwhelming, have a good ratio of everything. Definitely not your typical pizza. Was different, but we liked it. Not sure if they will have it permanently on their menu or will pop up occasionally as their "special", but I would not mind coming in to order it. Prices are fair, range from $3.50 (cheese) to $4.00 (chef special). I loved the crust and it was made to perfection. Had a short wait in line due to everyone ordering the pizza week special, but it went quick. Self seating, self served waters, and bust your own table. Street parking only; can be difficult.
google avatar

Andi F.

Yelp
I came twice on my most recent visit to the area. Both times, the employees were friendly. They seem to have a variety of daily specials. Order at the counter and wait for your meal. The slices are quite generous. Everything is neat and clean. No complaints at all. Employees are all masked. Customers are all masked except those who are dining.
google avatar

Jesse C.

Yelp
Portland Pizza Week! First time here- pizza was delicious, service was great and fast, and restaurant seems pretty clean. Came for their pizza week special- the Hawaii 5-0-3 pizza ($2 per slice). I love pineapple on my pizza, and this one also has spam! The slices are huge. I would say this one was a hit for me, and I would recommend it.
google avatar

Nate M.

Yelp
Really liked that they offer gluten free pizza, but one of our pies came so burnt it was hard to eat. Gluten free crust is expensive too, so to pay extra for a crust we couldn't eat? It was disappointing for sure. Do not recommend this place.

Darrin H.

Yelp
Perfectly NY crispy crust. Service was also fast and friendly, and the window seating is perfect for people-watching all the Portlandians walking by.

Michelle C.

Yelp
The service...well, check out the photo. We asked for it to go, and he either didn't hear or ignored us. When it was plated, we politely asked for a box, and he threw, yes threw, 3 pieces on top of one another. The pizza isn't good enough to go back and deal with this.
google avatar

Kelsey B.

Yelp
The best margarita pizza in Portland and the best I've ever had. So good!! Cheeses, garlicky and just the best.
google avatar

Charlie T.

Yelp
My first time visiting this location and it's because of pizza week. The place is of decent size and has an open feel to it. The special was a "Hawaii 5-0-3" which is a teriyaki base, shredded mozzarella, grilled pineapple, grilled spam, sesame seed, chopped green onions, and nori. This is a great tasting slice! I like it better than your traditional Hawaiian slice with the Canadian bacon. The spam just tastes soo much better when pairing with the pizza. You have to be a person that likes spam to enjoy this slice.
google avatar

Marissa H.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick slice. Sooooo delicious. The sauce is lovely. It was very greasy pepperoni, but that was expected. Grab some extra napkins! Also a couple cool pinball machines!
google avatar

Evan K.

Yelp
The Pizza was definitely not New York style .. Maybe the $1 slices .. if anything . You know the pizza isn't gonna be that great when you're looking through glass at pre made pizza that's probably been sitting there for hours . But the name definitely got me .. Lol only thing New York about that place was the staff , they were short .. rude and couldn't even say you're welcome after my girlfriend and I thanked them for their crappy pizza and service .. I know he heard me , I think I threw away a plastic cup in the recycling accidentally and the worker and cook stared me down and was looking at my eyes as I walked out the door and said thank you with no response .. that was the crack that broke camel's back for me .. this place is bad

Kansai T.

Yelp
Looking for great pizza places around town and this was just what I was looking for. Pizza was great, Tall boys of PBR. And the vibe was great, dirty in a good way like a good slice place should be.
google avatar

ryan f.

Yelp
First time here, naturally I ordered cheese, my lady got a few veggie options. The crust is wonderful, it's the right thickness, not soggy, not burnt, just a little crispy. There is the right amount of sauce to cheese, and the flavor is there! The price was right, the beer was good, the service was both quick and friendly. This is good pizza, come eat it!
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
Tried a pesto slice with a pint of Migration Patio Pale Ale. I was impressed by the pale ale from Migration Brewing, which had a distinctive passionfruit flavor.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
Came for Pizza Week. Flavors were on point, the staff were super friendly, and they had a decent tap list. Crust was just okay, and it seemed sort of hard to find a seat. But from the flavor standpoint, their Pizza Week slice was perfectly savory with just a hint of sweet. A-Okay overall!
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Solid neighborhood pizza spot - prices got kinda pricey expensive at $5 a slice. The beer is cold
