Best Restaurants at Santana Row and Valley Fair in San Jose | Eater SF

"If you’re craving Southeast Asian fusion make a beeline for Straits. To achieve intricate flavor profiles, this modern Singaporean establishment combines elements of Malaysian, Indonesian, Chinese, Nonya, and Indian cuisine. The house favorite is the roti prata, a traditional Indian flatbread crowned with scallions and served with a mouth-watering yellow coconut curry dip. But there are plenty of noteworthy options on the menu. Make sure to load up on spicy basil chicken, curried vegetables, and lemongrass beef. The lychee martinis are also a must. Heads up: Straits opens its dance floor and notches up its music in the evenings. So if you’re hoping for a lowkey kind of meal, stop by for lunch instead." - Johanna Harlow

Longtime Restaurant Owners Will Revive Historic Cathay House in Chinatown | Eater SF

"Started by Chris Yeo and his parents in the Outer Richmond in the 1980s, Straits (originally Straits Cafe) now has locations in Burlingame and San Jose run by Chris with his wife Kelly and son Julian as the group’s culinary director; the group once operated a Straits location under the dome at the Westfield Centre that closed in 2014, and the Yeos’ return to San Francisco is tied to their plans to help revive Chinatown by taking on the Cathay House space." - Caleb Pershan

Have been here many times. Here this time with an out of town friend. A good variety of Asian and American foods. Delicious food. Service can be slow.

Straits is a Singaporean, Asian fusion gem on Santana Row. The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive, something that lacks in many restaurants these days. While the restaurant has a large inside and bar area (club-like, so just keep that in mind), I highly recommend the outside seating when the weather is nice out (don’t worry they have heaters). Their happy hour is AMAZING, so jump in on SEVEN DAYS A WEEK (unheard of!). Not only are the prices fantastic, but they have a large range of drinks and food that are included. They don’t skimp on the portion size either. Now the food and drink recs!: - Lemongrass highball: even if you’re not a bourbon lover, it’s well-balanced and packs a punch - Crispy chicken “lollipops”: large, perfectly fried and the honey chili sauce…chef’s kiss - Spicy street noodles: sizable shrimp and tofu, awesome flavor and spice, I wish I wasn’t slipping this dish - Beef rendang: the braised beef had some good flavor, but parts of it were super tough and dry. Winning part of the dish was the coconut curry polenta at the bottom. It was a fantastic flavor and texture to add to the dish. Great meal and experience. Can’t wait to come back and try all of the other happy hour dishes!

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Straits on Santana Row truly delivers a Michelin-quality experience from start to finish. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are all exceptional. We were warmly welcomed by the manager, Kim, who is not only hilarious but clearly passionate about the menu. She shared how much thought and care goes into each dish — including trying 20 different versions of the egg coffee dip to make sure it matched the original in Vietnam. That level of dedication really shows. Our servers, Enrique and Megan, were attentive and friendly throughout the meal, checking in often and making sure we had everything we needed. As for the food — every dish blew us away. The black pepper garlic rib eye was my favorite: incredibly tender, packed with umami, and paired with rice and corn that soaked up every drop of the flavorful glaze. I would honestly order it again just for the rice. We also tried the garlic noodles with shrimp (hands down the best garlic noodles I’ve ever had), the rich and comforting laksa, and the banana leaf salmon with mango salad — all equally impressive. Don’t skip dessert! The lychee panna cotta and mango kulfi float were both light, refreshing, and perfect for a summer day. To top it all off, Straits is very dog-friendly. We sat on the shaded patio with our little Maltese and they treated him like a VIP — bringing out water, a puppacino, and even unseasoned chicken just for him. We will absolutely be coming back — and bringing all our friends. Straits is a gem!

Google
Very disappointing experience. I ordered the Black Peppered Garlic Rib Eye (Steak & Rice) and it was completely tasteless. The dish had no flavor at all, which was surprising for something described as peppered and garlicky. The rice mixed with corn tasted mostly like corn and didn’t complement the dish at all.For the price and expectations, this was really disappointing. I won’t be going back there again.

The restaurant is in amazing location and service is really good but the food tasted stale and lacked flavors. We had ordered chicken satay (2/5) and shrimp fried rice (2/5). The drinks were good. Overall would recommend this place only for vibe.

Google
Straits is like a club vibe restaurant that I think feels more like a club atmosphere the later in the night you go. The women who work here are all beautiful, giving the club vibe. I came with three coworkers of mine, about 7 minutes before happy hour ended. We told the hostess we wanted happy hour so she sat us in the happy hour area. When we went to order, the waitress told us we had to sit in the happy hour area and moved us again to another table/area. As I was looking at a happy hour menu and about to order to the waiter, a lady came and took the menu out of my hands. She then went across the table to remove the menu from my friend's hands and thankfully they said something (unlike me bc l'm scared of confrontation in any form). The waitress who was taking the menus said this was not the area for happy hour and happy hour was over. It was 5:58 and happy hour ends at 6 so technically we still had time to put an order in. We told them how we already moved tables for happy hour and thankfully our waiter Luis saved the day as he was willing to accommodate our happy hour order. If it wasn't for him, we would have not gotten it bc the lady was dead set on making us move again and telling us happy hour was over. As a business you can either happily invite people to come in and quickly get a last happy hour bite or rudely make it difficult for people to squeeze in a happy hour order and I feel like Straits did the later. It was an unwelcoming vibe and the waitresses didn't seem to know where happy hour was taking place. Is the food good? Yes. The corn fritters and chicken lollipops are always my go tos. The fries are good w the dips and the garlic noodles were good. Happy hour vodka drink was decent too just a bit sweet. Overall, I don't know how to feel about this place. Luis saved the day so I'm thankful they have some caring employees, but I'm scared to go now and not have him bc it would've been a completely different experience.

Google
This restaurant has always been an enigma to me. Been here several times, and I always walk away thinking the food is too sweet, and the attempt to be a restaurant and a night club really doesn’t work, as they are mediocre at both. Plenty of other options at Santana Row.

Suchita G.

Google
I visited this restaurant for a team lunch, and it's located in a nice spot with pleasant decor. They offer a separate vegetarian menu with a wide range of options, from starters to main courses, featuring South Asian-style dishes. The corn fritters, spring rolls, and garlic fries were tasty, but the crispy cauliflower was missing the expected batter coating. The street-style noodles in the main course were a bit too sticky, though the veg fried rice was enjoyable. However, considering the price, the food didn't quite meet expectations. Service was slow and lacked efficiency, with only one person taking orders and serving. They also didn't take our main course order until we'd finished the starters. Overall, the experience was decent but not outstanding.

Yelp
5/5! I'm always on the look out for a good happy hour and this one is great! I love the lounge open seating for casual evenings. The staff is energetic and kind, I loved being here. They had a great happy hour. It was 3-7pm almost everyday. I got a picture of the happy hour. They had cocktails for $10- they were delicious and strong. I asked the bartender to make the strawberry drink a little less sweet and he took his time to taste the sweetener to make sure he knew how much to put in my drink! I love the attention to detail. The happy hour menu also had a great food menu. Tons to choose from. We got the lollipop chicken drumsticks, the fried rice, and the poke nachos. The poke nachos were unique, I wish there were more tuna on them, but it's expected for a happy hour item.

Yelp
Straits... oh Straits... let me count the ways... We came to Straits for our anniversary dinner, and they had the place balled out in Halloween decor. Even the gorgeous staff all had some kind of costume on. So cute! Since we had already ordered some Happy Hour apps at Left Bank prior, I was craving something on the lighter side. They had a seasonal special salad that I forgot the name of, but was absolutely perfect! If Straits was near us in Las Vegas, I would be ordering this salad to go all the time! Everything in it was sliced super thin and there was plentiful cilantro, which I adore. It crunched with a symphony of flavors, and I couldn't get enough. They towered the salad incredibly high, and it took a lot of self-control for me to not kill the entire stack. I haven't had a salad that tasty in a very long time. It felt decadent, yet still healthy. We also split the Roti Prata appetizer, and my husband ordered the Butter Chicken. He was surprised by the large vegetables served with his curry, but not upset about it. Both dishes were scrumptious. I felt our dinner couldn't have been any better. Thank you, Straits!

Yelp
3.5 STARS Date: Friday, October 17th, 2025 Time: around 11:45pm Party of: 4 *Jameson *Sugarfree Red Bull A few of us dropped by after dinner. I believe one in our group had a friend that was here for some kind of celebration. We basically ordered a round the bar and then stepped off to the side. Later, someone handed me a red bull. I basically drank the two things above while we were here. I've gone to Straits so many times throughout the years. When I was younger, I'd be anywhere - standing by the crowded bar, at a table with a group of friends, etc. I've closed down this spot before. Now in my older age, I don't mind stopping at the bar for a drink, maybe two. But any longer, a table is definitely in order. Now a very mid spot, but my fond memories bump it up to a 4. REVIEW #3871

Yelp
Happy Hour daily 3-6pm, with quite a lot of menu items selection. The half shell oysters were the smallest I ever had, it's as small as the clam. We had the roti prata, it was ok except the curry dip was a small portion, not enough for dipping two roti. We also had the Straits Rum Sunset, it's not our favorite, the rum, pineapple and orange juice were not a great match.

Yelp
Great place to hangout at Santana Row! We came on a busy Saturday's night so we sat outside patio. Had a great time but def wanna check out the inside on my next visit

Yelp
Meeting up with friends for a quick bite and drinks. The weather has been so nice in the evening, we wanted an outside table. The host seated right away, no wait, even with a pretty packed house! Our waiter came out as soon as we were seated, took our orders and came back with our drinks right away! He came back to check on us frequently. You can see that everyone worked well together, like a well oiled machine, to get you in and out! I will definitely return.

Yelp
Our last experience here was really bad but Straits invited us back to give them another try. This experience on Thursday night was 1000x better. I really applaud this restaurant for taking the time to try to make things right for the customer. We had reservations for 8:30pm here but it wasn't that busy. The host took us in right away and was really nice. Our server, Tuan, came immediately to our table and was very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. He went over his recommendations and put in our orders quickly. We ordered the chicken skewers, roti (my favorite), and the wings for appetizers. All were really great and came out quick. I love the peanut butter sauce that goes with the skewers and the curry sauce for the roti. For entrees, we ordered the traditional fried rice (delicious and very cheap for the amount you get), bone marrow, and eggplant. The food here is wonderful and I love how they have such a wide variety of items on the menu. They came around so many times to pre-buss and refill our waters as well. Thank you Tuan and Straits for an amazing experience this time around!

Yelp
Great location on Santana row, it can get noisy outside. It has the vibe of a club with a set of food options. The menu is an eclectic mix of Asian and American food. We got some beers, street noodles with shrimp, Basil chicken and corn fritters. All the food was okay, though the noodles and the basil chicken had a decent spice kick which I was happy about. The corn fritters were a bit on the greasy side. The service was average. Given the number of options in this area, I'll likely try another place next time!

Yelp
Came here on a Friday afternoon with coworkers and it was a blast. The Lychee martini is legit and just order the carafe! My other suggestion is come for happy hour where many items are half off. It's worth it to save some cash and enjoy the company you're with while enjoying the food and drinks. The outdoor vibe is sweet on a warmer day as it can get a little stuffy inside. Their servers are sweet and they warm up to you if you treat them well and make conversation. Every time I've gone for happy hour it's been a great experience. Looking forward to returning soon!!

Yelp
Straits is like a little bit of Vegas on Santana Row. A fun, vibrant lounge where you can have the nightlife experience even during the day. I can't remember what drew us to this place on our first visit several years ago, but remembering what a fun time we had, we decided to make a return visit this past weekend after an appointment in the area. It's dark inside like a typical lounge, but the side facing Santana Row is wide open, which is great for people-watching. They have a pretty extensive happy hour menu 3-6pm. From the HH menu we ordered a dozen oysters, chicken satay sticks, and the garlic noodles. The chicken satay was probably the best part. I'm not much of a meat eater, but this chicken was super tender and paired very nicely with the flavorful peanut sauce. Good drinks also, with a wide selection of spirits, cocktails, mocktails, wine, and beer, something to quench everyone's thirst. The service was somewhat inconsistent, and we kept getting different servers throughout our visit, but all the servers were friendly when they did come around. As you would expect with a nightclub-like scene, music was upbeat, no downer pop here, thank you. Reminds me of our time in Serbia where literally every restaurant/cafe/bar plays upbeat music, day or night; music sets the entire mood, and it's really difficult to be down while listening to upbeat unce-unce music. More places need to take a page out of this handbook. If you're in the Santana Row area, do check this spot out, it's fun. Next time we're in San Jose, we will be back.

Yelp
Came here during happy hour to celebrate a big milestone--our teen landing their first full-time job! We wanted something festive and flavorful, and Straits delivered on both. We kicked things off with happy hour drinks (the Straits Rum Sunset was my pick--highly recommend) and ordered a fun mix of shareable appetizers. The chicken lollipops and wings came out hot and crispy, the roti prata with curry hit that buttery, savory note, and we ended up ordering a second round of roti later because we couldn't get enough. Everything came out with enough breathing room to actually enjoy it. Annie, our server, was warm and on it. From keeping drinks topped up (without needing to ask!) to making the whole process smooth--from order to check--she was exactly the kind of person you want when you're out celebrating. Even the small touches--like offering a box for leftovers before we asked--made the whole evening feel easy and relaxed. Would definitely come back for a group dinner again. Great happy hour, solid flavors, and a vibe that lets you kick back and celebrate whatever life's throwing your way.

Yelp
Had the best Lychee Martini ever during the happy hour. The atmosphere is so sophisticated, and the service was prompt, the waitress frequently stopped by our table and made sure we got all that we wanted ordered before the happy hour service ended. It was a quick pit stop but well worth it!

Yelp
I have been to Straits many times - for corporate dinners and milestone bday celebrations and have always enjoyed the food and vibe. Today was not one of those days. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong from a service perspective: - I ordered Basil Gin & Tonic - I got a regular G&T - when I asked where my berries and orange and Basil and rosemary were - instead of apologizing for the wrong order, he said they ran out of those ingredients! And then the manager showed up magically, with the exact drink I had ordered - we ordered our food with the manager - then 30 mins passed- 45 mins / the main server asked if we wanted to order and we said your manager has already taken our order - he didn't bother checking - 1.5 hrs later we asked him and he said they had not put the order in at all! - finally the order came - my friend asked for a glass of wine - which never came but did show up on the bill - glad we checked the bill and asked them to remove it - we went to use the restroom and the bathroom flushes weren't working The manager did come over and apologize and took off the charges for the food that showed up 1.5 hrs late. They have such a great spot and good food - I hope they work on their service.

Yelp
Had dinner at Straits for dinner on a Saturday night around 10pm. In my opinion, it was a bit dark but I know that's the vibe as they were playing music and people were dancing. The food was good! This is what we ordered: Garlic fries: 4/5 Calamari: 3/5 Roti: 5/5 Noodles: 5/5 Definitely will be back to try their HH.
google avatar

Anh T.

Yelp
I agree with some of the points others have made. I've always had a great time at Straits because of the ambience, the friendly servers, and the good music - it's a perfect after-work spot where everyone's already relaxed and ready to have fun. The food is pretty good, but honestly, not quite worth the price. What bothers me most are the extra charges they tack on - and especially the way they calculate tips. Instead of applying the tip percentage to just the food total, they calculate it after tax, service charges, and everything else. I really don't like that.

Yelp
Hip, happening place with amazing dishes. The night we went the service was slow because the restaurant was packed. Loved dining with 4 of us because we were able to try multiple dishes Drinks, appetizers, and entrees were all delicious! We would love to come back and try more items on the menu.

Yelp
Every item we had here was delicious. Loved the Asian fusion style. We tried the roti (amazing sauce!), chicken saate, sashimi, and fried rice bowl. Will definitely be back when we are in town!

Yelp
Came here for happy hour during the weekday. Sad that they were already out of oysters by the time we were there, ~5pm on a Wednesday. Nonetheless, we ordered the following: -roti prata - this was yummy, crispy roti with a yellow dipping curry -straits frites - can never go wrong with fries. Came with some aioli and ketchup -crispy califlower - exactly like it sounds, crispy califlower with some aioli dipping sauce -crispy chicken lollipops - we thought this was ok, the sambal flavoring was a bit much -satay chicken sticks - comes 3-4 pieces with a dipping sauce. This was delicious. -straits poke nachos - house made chips with tuna bits and imitation crab with an avocado spread. This was alright for us. -garlic noodles - simple, a little greasy but it is garlic noodles. Overall, some food items were better than others. Service was good, the servers kept coming around to check on us often and refilled our waters multiple times. It was a nice day to sit outside and enjoy the weather and people watch.

Yelp
The waiters that's we had on last Friday wasn't happy with her position. Should consider her to be move to the less basic communication skills needed. Blue hair staff

Yelp
** This is a review for the drinks at the bar, and nothing else ** Soooo good. Normally, I'm not a big drinker since ya girl is allergic... BUT, when in Santana Row... and it's 5 PM, had to get myself a lil drinkity drink. The squad and I got different drinks to share. I got a mocktail since I wanted to not look like Larry the Lobster by the end of it, but I did enjoy taking sips of everyone else's drinks. Everything was amazing, definitely no complaints here. Some drinks were STRONG, so I'm glad I had the Moonlit Lily as a palette cleanser. Only rating my drink since I don't remember the tastes of the others too well Moonlit Lily - 9/10 - Stunning presentation and color, amazing lychee flavor. Perfect balance between tart and sweet.

Yelp
Straits always has a really nice ambiance inside and the service is good. I always get the sweet corn fritter as an appetizer, it's really good and goes well with the chili sauce it comes with. I got the mango mocktail drink but didn't really like it much though it was pretty and came with whipped cream on top. I usually get the pad Thai as a main course but tried the garlic noodles this time and will not be getting it again. I feel it lacked flavor and I've definitely had better tasting garlic noodles at other places. I got the vanilla ice cream sundae for dessert and it was really good. It went well with the coconut flakes and pecans and syrup.

Yelp
We went yesterday with a group of 8 people including kids. Unfortunately there were no sitting inside, but they arranged outside with nice heater. Most importantly all of the staff were very kind, respectful and nice. 2-3 staff helped setting table for us and ensured we are getting the heat . They took our order, they even exchanged one order which had nuts without question asked. If I remember the server Tuan was extremely nice and ensured food is delivered in our table timely manner. While the service was excellent, food was cooked and tasted extremely well. We finished and ordered desert also at the end. I strongly recommend the place but make a reservation also if possible. Thank you guys!

Yelp
I am so impressed with Straits and their event banquet and private events service. We partnered with Liliana to plan our friends wedding celebration and it was a huge success. I started planning a few months before the event and Liliana was so easy to work with - super responsive and was very patient with all of my questions. She was able to help arrange for a photo backdrop with balloons for us too. The patio area was set up nicely and our waiter/host was very attentive and knowledgeable. We went with the cocktail banquet menu, seven choices and buffet style. Our selections were all so tasty; poh pia, crispy chicken lollipops, sweet corn fritters, crispy cauliflower being some of my faves. If you're looking to host an event, I highly recommend Straits!

Yelp
As a first timer, I had no idea what to expect, but then I met Ash. Not only was he as courteous as he looks, he recommended the best drink that I have had so far! (I'm so happy to know that he is the manager because he knows exactly what you need)! I can personally vouch that the lychee martini recommended by Ash is the best and strongest drink to start & close your tab with! Thank you so much to Ash for recommending more drinks as well! Specially the top shelf tequilas that I have never tried before ! Don't be afraid to ask because you'll be surprised to find out that you have been missing out on a lot of drinks your entire life !

Yelp
As someone disabled and utilizes a power chair, it's always difficult to sit indoors because the AC is always running, and I can't regulate my body temperature. Not only that, I struggle to fit underneath tables with legs. I didn't fully fit underneath the accessible table, but the manager went out of his way to search and let me try every option so that I am able to fit and eat comfortably. And it was a success! The food is incredibly delicious and the staff here are so kind and accommodating. Mailee, my server in the photo was incredibly sweet and very attentive! The oysters are so fresh, and happy hour is also a wind! They even offered a doggy option :) Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great taste good service dance club atmosphere. Not a speak easy, bumping music. Favorites: Mee Goreng, shaken beef, ribeye, honey walnut prawns, Taro brûlée. Each dish was unique and flavorful. Excellent job Straits!

Yelp
We needed to go to Santana Row for something and finished early. Walking around we we hit a couple places then ended up at Straits. It's nice and airy with floor to ceiling windows facing Santana Row. We settled onto nice lounge seating with little tables. The service was pretty quick for drinks and food. We started off with oysters, chicken on a stick and other varied Asian fusion goodies. It's nice it opens a 11. Most places like this wouldn't open till late in the day, but this is Santana Row with lots of people millling about. So the food was delicious and the cocktails perfect. Happy hour is from 3-6 which is nice. A really nice vibe for day time in San Jose. Reminded me of Vegas a little. They were playing very upbeat music. Not sure why more places haven't figured it out that music sets the vibe and when its up beat people stay longer. The lighting was very subdued. The servers when taking our orders came and sat next us. Reminded us of the Cosmopolitan bars in Vegas. Nice touch. Overall very nice and we'll be sure to return the next time we are that far south.

Yelp
Fun place on Santana Row for dinner -- very nightclub ambiance with neon signs, cool lights, and a lounge area. We walked in around 5:30pm on a Saturday and were lucky to grab a table for 4 right away. We ordered the poke nachos and roti prata for starters; the poke nachos were disappointingly underwhelming in portion size -- and the cross-cut chips weren't my favorite since they got soggy easily -- but the tuna was delicious (though very sparse). The roti was very well done. For four people, we also split the hainan chicken and beef rendang since the filet mignon ran out. We ordered extra medium sides of jasmine and hainan chicken rice but didn't realize the hainan chicken already comes with rice so we could have just done with one extra side of rice. Very happy with both entrees; the chicken is well prepared. The beef had some tough spots but overall pretty good; the pandan polenta was fantastic contrast with the spice. I also tried the pandan cream soda and liked it a lot. Service was great and very attentive and we appreciated that someone was around to clear plates and fill glasses of water very readily. Overall on the pricey side but fun for a night out.

Yelp
This was our second stop for food and drinks for the evening. Ambience is modern and vibe is cozy when you are away from live music and lively when you are close to it. Our server Sean C was cheerful and energetic. He clearly understood that some of the members of our party were drunk and he kept things smooth and handled the interactions pretty well. Kudos to him and how he adapted to the vibe of our table. We ordered 3 lychee Martinee and one expresso martini. Lychee martinis were hit but expresso martini was not that great. He happily took it back. Let's talk about the food. We ordered fried rice and garlic noodles and asked our server to suggest for some vegetarian dishes. He suggested spicy street noodles. Omg those were so good. Wish their portions are little bigger. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be back.

Yelp
We came on a weekday evening (Wednesday dinner), so there unfortunately wasn't a DJ playing but no wait which was amazing since we had a large group. Loved the ambiance and the garlic noodles but the portion was extremely small for what we paid in my opinion, especially since I split it with someone else. Waiters were super nice (the main guy taking care of us gave us a free scoop of ice cream with a candle because it was my friends birthday!) but were also a little hard to get a hold of.

Yelp
Since moving into the neighborhood almost three weeks ago, Straits has quickly become my favorite go-to spot for lunch, happy hour, and late-night drinks with friends. The food and vibe are always on point! Late nights do get packed and busy but that's a good thing, imo. What really keeps me coming back is the exceptional service from Kim and Maggie. They're consistently warm, attentive, and have genuinely made me feel like a regular from day one. They always make the experience top-notch.

Yelp
My rating is between 3 to 4. And I am still debating which one to pick. Came here for a happy hour because yard house was full. The dead vibe when entering might be a warning sign for its potential unpopularity. We ain't shooting for vibe just wanted to get out of the house and celebrate being alive. The food was expensive for its portion. Hamburger is just a burger (bun+cheese+beef patty) without anything, no fries no veggies. $15. Beef tasted gourmet, but the whole thing and lack thereof, 3/5 Poke Nachos - The stingiest amount of fish given on plate. How hard is it to throw some raw meats generously? $15. 2/5. I do not recommend this app. Wings, satay chicken and cauliflower were pretty good, but pricey. I wasn't too impressed with my mocktail -pink linen. But it was fun to see my son's illuminating drink. Place was run down and untidy. Dirty floor. Seat was not very comfortable. The girl staff wanted to keep a bar tab on my husband's credit card, I declined. So we paid upfront all at once. I don't think it's safe for any person or business to hold on my CC. Friendly staff happy to assist. Welcoming and cozy atmosphere. The same girl brought a bottle of sparkling water on the house for us. What a sweet gesture! Thanks hon! HH is such a bougie BS. You ain't gonna save money coming to Straits if you think happy hour is a great deal. We spent over $100 and left still hungry. Tapa style, expensive price. It's the Santana Row style. Should have as well ordered regular food. Will I come back? Probably not. It's not the service but the value-price ratio that i am not happy with.

Yelp
This place is fine... Portion sizes are very low and prices are very high! And service was kinda slow but staff were friendly. The sauce that came with the roti prata was crazy addicting. The fried rice lacked flavor but adding the roti sauce fixed it right up.

Yelp
3.5 STARS Hello, $28 Weekend Prime Rib w/ coconut pandan mashed potatoes! IMO, the Singaporean/Malay food at Straits is not it (overpriced and mid at best) but their new prime rib deal was worth a revisit. And, it didn't disappoint: https://tinyurl.com/4pckzc8c The 6 oz prime rib is deliciously tender and moist (rare = medium rare). Beefy and not oversalted. The mashed potatoes had good tropical coconut-ty flavor, creamy and chunky. Didn't care for the achar that tasted like sweet satay instead of acidic, the hella salty gravy, and the sambal horseradish that's more of an aioli but hey, you can't have to it all for only $28. After trying one bite of the prime rib, we quickly ordered another round. So yea, def worth the re-visit! To Management: The restroom IS in desperate need of a remodel, it doesn't match the trendy club vibes. It's eeeeck and reminds me of deserted rest stop...all that was missing is a gl*ry h*le. O T H E R I N F O: * Prime Rib deal available Saturday + Sunday starting at 11 am until sold out. Around 5:30 pm on Saturday, they were already low. * Happy Hour: Monday - Friday 3 pm - 6 pm (lounge only), Wednesday - Thursday 9 pm - close (main dining + lounge), Sunday 12 pm - 4 pm: $2 oysters + bottomless mimosas. * Rezzies on Tock. We made one but didn't need it. Straits isn't as crowded as other restos on The Row. * Most of the staff are great, the hostess (AZN brunette in club attire) and our server, Tyler were awesome! * Dog-friendly (front and side patio). Choose the side patio for a more quiet meal. * The new pay for parking system at The Row is confusing and flawed. Free for the first 2 hours and $2 per an hour thereafter. We had to pay twice before the gate lifted.

Yelp
Food here I believe is Singaporean style, very delicious and spicy. I don't know if they can adjust the spice level because the menu was already set for the luncheon celebration for my nephew's MBA graduate. Straits accommodated all of us, about 50 people including little todlers and kids. The service was outstanding as well as the food. The ambience can be formal, but can be very casual too. Parking is free for the first 2 hours in Santana Row Mall.

Yelp
This isn't my first time eating in this restaurant but the first time with family. The outdoor seating is perfect for our large group. The service is always great here! Moreso that we have a big group. They have enough staff to take care of us! I love coming here for the food! The Asian fusion style is perfect! They had food that caters to all ages. The kids liked it too! Just a caution, food is a bit spicy

Yelp
Love this place! Been here twice and both times had a great time. The food is amazing, vibe is great, and Santana row offers parking so this is an easy choice for us.

Yelp
Straits did such an amazing job hosting my company's holiday party, December 2025. We got a private room, impeccable service, great food, & AMAZING customer service/satisfaction. They were in constant contact with me either via group chat or IRL to make sure everything was going smoothly. I truly appreciate all that they did. Made my life 10x easier! Can't wait for next year.

Yelp
We came for happy hour , around 5pm on a Thursday. There was no wait when we came! The happy hour menu is pretty good with a good variety and the portions/prices were fair. We ordered almost everything on the happy hour menu. It was all super good! I loved the fried cauliflower and chicken skewers. The poke nachos didn't have enough poke on them. Service was good and we were always checked on to see how we were doing or if we needed anything else. Great HH spot!

Yelp
I've been to Straits many, many times for happy hour and sometimes for late-night drinks. Their happy hour menu is pretty decent, with drinks and bar menu options. We decided to come here for their brunch, but we weren't too impressed with the menu. Fortunately, our waiter told us about their prime rib weekends! For only $28, it comes with mashed potatoes and veggies. We both decided to get it. The prime rib was pretty good. The mashed potatoes were okay, but the veggies were alright; they were cold. The horseradish was a disappointment, as there was no kick at all. :/ I probably won't get their prime rib again. I'll definitely come back for happy hour, though! and the triple chocolate mousse bomb was super delicious.

Yelp
Ambiance 5/5 Service 4/5 Food 4.5/5 Value 5/5 Yesterday a friend and I popped in and were delighted to partake in a Happy Hour menu on a Sunday afternoon! The weather was lovely and the indoors opened fully to the outdoors. We sat inside adjacent to the bar in a low table with excellent people watching. We were quickly greeted by a staff member who were all dressed very nicely, a small detail not seen everywhere. We never felt rushed and the drinks and food were great. We had mango, $10 tequila spritz which were initially a bit sweet and our server whisked away and remade to a perfect cocktail to enjoy. We had the $6 garlic fries. Perfect not greasy, crisp and wonderful. We also had the $9 chicken lollipops: 3 wonderful chicken drummettes cooked and spiced perfect. Overall, great experience, excellent value. Don't pass go, especially during happy hour. We'll definitely return

Yelp
Came here for happy hour! Tried the crispy cauliflower. It was super delicious. We also had calamari and salt and pepper wings. It was definitely vibe on a Thursday night. Shout out to Cassie for taking care of us!

Yelp
I was pretty excited to try Singaporean food since there's not much in the area. I went at 1 pm on a weekend for brunch and there was no wait. For their brunch menu, I tried the Pandan Soda, Thai Tea Toast and a Breakfast Plate. The drink was really good, with a nice pandan flavor that wasn't too sweet. The toast was interesting with some corn flakes for the texture and thai tea flavor. I do wish there was a bit more ube flavor with the condensed milk, and price was high for the portions. The Breakfast Plate was also pricey for the portions, and tasted a bit bland. Both dishes felt very heavy and it was more like Asian fusion food rather than Singaporean. While we were eating dinner, someone randomly went around to each table to take a picture, and then printed the photo out to sell. The lighting was bad in the photo and it felt a bit unsettling as she didn't tell us who she was, or what the picture was for. Felt like a scam, and a bit weird that the restaurant would hire someone, or let someone roam around to do this. Overall with the experience, mediocre food, small portions, and high prices, I would rate this at 2.75/5, rounding up to a 3.
