The 29 Essential Restaurants in Kingston, Jamaica

"Having hosted such greats as Mick Jagger and Grace Jones, Strawberry Hill is a haven of Jamaican casual sophistication and elegance. Leisurely weekend lunches are the move here, where traditional fretwork and batik prints provide the perfect backdrop to a menu of new Jamaican cuisine, like steamed whole local fish or the duo of curry goat and oxtail. Go for lunch and stay to watch the sun set lazily over the city, a Blackwell rum punch in hand." - Leisha Wong

54 Ways We're Making the Holidays Feel Special This Year

"I'm giving my Bob Marley-obsessed father a print from the legendary Strawberry Hill Hotel (where the Stones also recorded)—hopefully, the two of us will be up in those Blue Mountains one day soon."

Strawberry Hill

"This Georgian-style hotel in the mountains was built on a coffee plantation that belonged to the British royal family in the eighteenth century. Original antiques, canopied beds, and hand-carved fretwork dec- orate the cottages—"and those views...wow!" Using ingredients grown on the grounds and a stone grill on the main lawn, chefs prepare local dishes with traditional pimiento-infused techniques. "Jamaica definitely isn't just for beach vacations. It was spectacular being up in the mountains where my favorite kind of coffee comes from." The infinity pool overlooks the city and offers a 40-mile view."

I was due to visit Strawberry Hill hotel. Plans changed abruptly when my elderly father was hurt unexpectedly, and I had to fly back to the US prematurely to tend to him at the hospital. I promptly contacted the hotel with 8 days of advance notice to let them know. Even though their policy required to cancel at least 14-days prior to checkin, the hope was some flexibility. Zero flexibility was shown, and I lost the cost of the entire stay which was fully paid months in advance

Omg 😳 i don’t know where to start with the staff of that place, worst customer service ever, rudest people i have ever seen, to dine at the restaurant is an understatement, if you are hungry don’t go there. The only positive thing is the scenery,it’s absolutely gorgeous, the place needs renovation big time and i don’t know who is the owner but he or she needs to teach their employees how to smile at the guests and thank them for being there. Also a driver name McGiver and his son Chris, are the only best people in that place, they are absolutely amazing, nice and down to earth. Love them two.

Excellent customer service, great views from the mountain-top, tranquil with the beautiful sounds of nature's early mornings &evenings , not forgeting the delicious local meals. In addition, the educational gallery of Jamaica's music and the owner's musical eye for talent. Definitely a second trip destination!

What a beautiful place! We loved the location and the history.||The views here are spectacular! Looking down over Kingston from the infinity pool and restaurant. And the stunning Blue Mountains from our room. ||The spa is gorgeous. You should definitely make time for a treatment if you can. It's very tranquil, and the service was very professional. ||The food is delicious. The restaurant service could be a little slow, even when it wasn't busy. It wasn't an issue, we weren't in a rush. The bar service was excellent.||A great stay and I would reccomend.

Ive been around the world and this is one of the most singularly stunning sites I’ve ever visited. For the best views, stay in Highgate or mount view villa so you get the view of the city as well as Newcastle and surrounding mtns. Bathrooms are rundown (see toilet bowl photo- rim bigger than seat) and pool is gross- don’t expect luxury. Food is fine, drinks are better than ok, but not mixology. staff are very nice. Platter of trash and dishes left outside my room for 18 hours (pictured). Howling cats woke me up at night. I’ll go back for the views and ambience.

I made a reservation here with my friends and was really disappointed by what happened during my visit. When my group went to the common area by the pool, a waiter approached us and said a guest had complained that we were making them uncomfortable. We asked what we had done, and the only explanation he gave was that “outside guests aren't allowed in that area,” even though we had a reservation. A different staff member later told us that wasn’t true and that the person who complained was just causing trouble. The guest who complained kept staring us down and even took photos of us without our permission. After she left, we were suddenly allowed back into the same area with no issue. It was an uncomfortable and disgusting experience. I hope the management addresses situations like this better in the future. The female waitress with the glasses was extremely rude and aggressive as well.

The journey to get there was something and unfortunately we visited on a day when the weather wasn’t the best but that’s nothing compared to the rude and callous staff. Nonetheless, very breathtaking view. It’s one of those places you visit and go “oh” then be on your way.
