The Best Coffee Shops and Cafes in Bend, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Richard Steffensen and Rhonda Ealy founded Strictly Organic in 1999 with 100 percent organic and fair-trade coffee. For those seeking naturally grown, healthy food and coffee, Strictly Organic offers a drive-through window or eat-in area, featuring wildly creative art hangings where guests can watch the roasters at work. Expect one of the darkest roasts in Central Oregon creating a warm flavor in their latte, cappuccino, mocha, and more. With a strong commitment to running an environmentally and socially responsible business, the cups and utensils are biodegradable. Coffee grounds and chaff from roasting are recycled as agricultural mulch. Food offerings include a variety of burritos and breakfast sandwiches, along with lunch sandwiches, rice bowls, and soups, all made from scratch." - Barb Gonzalez

Google
Great spot for breakfast burritos and iced coffee. They roast their beans in house. The burrito is STUFFED. You will walk away feeling full and happy. Wonderful people working here too. The outdoor seating area is so peaceful. Shaded and plenty of tables. Giving 4 stars as I asked for avocado to be added to my burrito and I found just 1 single slice of avocado. Not generous with the avo, but everything else was great! :)

Google
Fantastic food, best coffee I’ve had in years. They did not disappoint, bagels, burritos, the only thing I’d advise is not going in a hurry. They took a generous amount of time to get the food out but the baristas were so kind.

Google
Massive portions and seriously great flavor. I got the breakfast burrito with the gluten free rice wrap and added beef—so, so good. Delicious:)

Lindsey M.

Google
I was able to get an egg, cheese, and salsa Verde burrito and it was delicious. I'm not a fan of potato in my burrito and they have an option to remove it which I appreciated. The staff is also very friendly. I will be back.

PeePeeStop

Google
What a place! Nothing better than getting a cup of coffee and knowing it came right from bean burning source. Truly enjoyed a nice deep dark cup while also checking out their restrooms. (It's what we do!) They passed as a nice clean stop and we sat and watched the process of roasting through the window. Pretty cool. Nice staff. Cool atmosphere and a drive thru!

Google
Awesome coffee with no bitter aftertaste. The mocha java blend is my favorite. The food and baked goods are also excellent. Amazing and friendly, fun staff. What more can you ask for? I really like the quiche with the daily soup and would highly recommend them.

Google
We drove from across town to get ourselves a healthy vegan breakfast burrito. It was just what I needed. Fresh, simple ingredients. The services was very good and the cold brew was fresh and tasty . If I lived in Bend, I am sure I would frequent this place often .

Carmen

Google
Loved this little breakfast spot! Super fresh, healthy, TASTY breakfast sandwiches (had mine on a gluten free bagel!). My partner had a breakfast burrito and said it was the best one he's every had (it's not 90% potatoes like other places). Great drinks & friendly service. Went here twice when I was in Bend. Great find and highly recommend!

Yelp
I was visiting bend for the weekend and came here for breakfast both days! They have a great breakfast burrito that is pretty bulky but mainly due to the potatoes. You have to try the green salsa you prefer some spice. It can get pretty popular on Sundays so definitely not the fast grab and go spot - I'd say expect about 20 minutes or so.

Yelp
strictly organic coffee is strictly the jie I like to drink, well balanced, robust flavor between acidity and sweetness. I feel like I'm floating in the clouds as I'm sipping a cup of Joe!

Yelp
I'm in town just for the night for work and asked my hotel where I could get a latte and something healthy to eat and they with them in a strictly organic. Luckily I got here before they close because I would have been sad to realize I missed out on their delicious soup and latte! The soup of the day was in curry lentil vegan soup and it was delicious! Chock full of lentils and other veggies with just a hint of spice but not spicy . They had some fall seasonal drinks and I got the shortbread cookie tea with some soy milk steamed into it and it was amazing. They say it's a vanilla Roobio's tea with almond and hazelnut syrup. I asked for half the amount of syrups to cut the sugar and they happily obliged. I also ordered a pumpkin snickerdoodle for later so I haven't tried it yet as of the writing of this review but I'm sure it's meant to be amazing

Yelp
Always appreciate the indulgence of the Bronco Burrito! Ambiance is accommodating to those doing light teleworking, casual conversations with acquaintances, or can appreciate a large window to people watch. Food isn't all organic BUT all the coffee is... IE Strictly Organic COFFEE Company. Read through a lot of these reviews; Seems like we only see one side of some petty reviewers... your profiles show your inconsistency to appreciate people in customer service. Thank you Strictly Organic for providing the best coffee, food, eye-candy, and community relationship in Bend! Will always support local & applaud those working with difficult people.

Yelp
Based on at least 8 visits as it's my breakfast stop on way to Bay Area and back home. I loved this place BUT last Wednesday's customer service proved to me, that I'm not welcomed. On my final visit, I walked in and stood in line. I waited a few minutes for two women my age order. A employee my age saw the delay and asked if she could take my order from register to my left against the wall. I said ok, but hold on. I turned to my right and asked a customer in her late 70's if she wanted to order. She said no thank you and her two friends were ordering for her. I gave my order and had a minute or two conversation with that employee. As I waited for about fifteen minutes, standing in the lobby of entrance, I saw two different occasions of transients (one with blanket over head and body) enter, get hot tea and leave. I also saw another sitting in the corner. This is common on all of my prior visits but you'll soon read how I was treated quite different than transients. I had waited for about fifteen minutes, saw the cook place two sandwiches in the warmer unit which is about 3-4' behind register. There is an open area between that register and the larger main counter area. I saw a name next to one of the sandwiches so I stepped over to read the name. I did this because the two employees were busy taking an order from a customer. I stepped and looked into the glass reading the name and it wasn't mine. I suddenly hear someone shouting, "What are you doing, you can't be there, why are you there." I turn and explain I was looking to see if that was my name. The employee in front of the other raises her voice more and says, "That is off limits it's only for employees, you need to step back." She never listened to my short few words. The woman employee behind her looked absolutely scared. I was ordered to step back. I became concerned on how they felt so I took three steps to where I ordered my sandwich. The employee continued repeating I couldn't go over to that spot. Both glared at me. Made me feel uncomfortable. I tried to explain why I went to look but was interrupted. I stood there as they stared at me. I stepped outside. As I stood outside...I thought wow, I guess my being a clean cut 60 year old man, dressed nice with a Veteran cap on was intimidating. I waited a minute and re entered the lobby. I stood and waited about 2-3 minutes. I wasn't in a hurry as I'm retired from a different career but still work. The two employees just stared at me. Didn't ask to help me at all. Same ones who treated me like garbage. The cook came up and said sandwich. I walked up and was asked for a tag with my name. I said I wasn't provided one. She felt comfortable enough to give me my sandwich. I exited. I could feel the stare down. I went to my car and called to ask to speak to a manager. The young girl said she was a manager. I paused, and I said your not a manager are you. She said, no and HUNG up. Yup...lol. I called back and asked to speak to manager,...that employee said she was a lead. I requested to speak with a manager...she repeated I could speak with her, she was in charge. I said, I'll see you in a few minutes. I ate my sandwich in the car because it took twenty minutes mostly from their drama and I was hungry. I entered the cafe and an employee in her 50's looked very upset and shouted at me as soon as I entered. A tall young male employee was standing behind her, the woman employee who had yelled at me earlier was standing next to the register I had ordered from. Two other women employees were standing behind the main register. It looked like they all wanted to say a few things to me. The employee who said she was a lead asked what my complaint was. I began to explain, only by third word I was interrupted and asked, "Did you step behind this area." I said yes, then was shouted at, " You cannot go there, did you understand, what don't you understand." I began to speak, was interrupted again, she steps to the open area, spreads her arms away from body and shouts, " You can't go there, what don't you understand, repeats again. She slides side to side. I asked can I speak without being interrupted. She says yes, go ahead, I began speaking and was yelled at, "You can't go there, it's employees only." I quit trying to speak...there is a pause. I look at the employee who had yelled at me..she's now staring at the lead employee. I then say, this was my regular place and last time I was here, an employee said I could check on my sandwich because they were busy. The lead paused, looked up from her blank sheet of paper she was going to write on and shouted that I violated their policy. I stood there, looked at everyone and said I'll never be back as I exited. The lead employee yelled have a nice day.

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast before a day of hiking! Got a couple coffee, a Bronco burrito, and an Ocean Roll. The coffee had great flavor, and the burrito was delish and big enough to share!
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
The French roast is the best cup of coffee in town! Super fresh, beautiful aroma, hearty roasted flavor!
google avatar

Sarah D.

Yelp
You don't get to treat someone the way you treated Derek and keep a high review. I don't care how good your coffee is
google avatar

Jeremiah B.

Yelp
This is your standard run of the mill coffee houses. It was snowing when I was here and the view out the windows were amazing.

Cheri A.

Yelp
Best coffee I've had in Bend / Oregon !!! Highly recommend. Lovely people who work there also
google avatar

Dani N.

Yelp
This was our go to breakfast spot while visiting Bend. There was always free parking options. It is open early. They have chalk on the front patio for kids. There are lots of to go style breakfast options. And the peach scone was incredible.
google avatar

Danielle N.

Yelp
Great breakfast burritos. They open early at 6 and have a large coffee selection and burritos. Burritos are huge. A little expensive but nice vibes inside.
google avatar

Trish M.

Yelp
I drink alot of tea, but coffee is also good. I gave Gloria Allred SO coffee, which I heard her staff loves. I've sent it to many celebrities . Jim Carrey among them! He was going through a cleanse , but was saving it for when he was back in the saddle, he said .
google avatar

Ned L.

Yelp
Four shots in my 20 ounce mocha, and the Bronco Breakfast Burrito was awesome. The service was nice, and the ambiance is good too. Seems busy with both drive thru and inside customers. Nearest coffee to the Tesla superchargers behind the hotel.

Ellen K.

Yelp
The staff was pleasant and the place has a good vibe. I ordered an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on GF bread. It was extremely dry and crumbly, and had minimal flavor. I might try something else here but never what I tried.
google avatar

Nadya M.

Yelp
Organic coffee roasted in-house, pastries (including gluten free) scratch made in-house, great location, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and the food is so good.

Keith U.

Yelp
I arrived home to discover that the Organic Mexican coffee is roasted in the French or Italian style. Oil is everywhere. I purchased this today. Why do you not label your bags with the roast style? That would have helped to avoid your customer purchasing the wrong product. We don't like charred coffee briquets. We even said so (before purchase) when discussing coffee and what we like. We go for the light or medium roasted coffee beans. We were getting guidance from employee who somehow failed to tell us the Organic Mexican was super dark roasted. The bag was not labelled with the roast style. I don't really want to run this oily stuff through my grinder. (I actually tried to grind it and taste it. It really gunked up my grinder, a Bunn G3. And the taste was very very dark and charred tasting; not my cup of tea. This was not a good experience. We did not like the surprise when we opened the bag to see the dark "French roast-like" contents. Thanks for listening. Edit/Update: Stellar customer focus, empathy, and understanding was evident when I went back to explain my mistake. I was able to exchange my purchase with a light/medium roast. Thank you for being an awesome coffee shop; and the empathy for my mistake. Review is reset to 5 stars.

Yelp
A friendly and efficient crew. Tasty coffee to boot! Nicely located! Comfy setting for kicking back to enjoy a brew.
google avatar

Neeha I.

Yelp
Cold brew, excellent! Burritos, awesome! Service, super nice! Pro tip: get both sauces inside the burrito and on the side, thank me later
google avatar

Ammara T.

Yelp
Really good and flavorful coffee! Got the iced vanilla latte and it was on point. If I lived closer I would be coming here a lot more. Staff was friendly and they even had a drive thru service!
google avatar

Aaron C.

Yelp
I was recommended to come here. The waitress was excellent & very sincere and sweet. Food was ok, not bad and not amazing. Great vegetarian selections. Coffee was good. Seating in and out was adequate but not over the top amazing. Nice flowers outside. Lots of treats available. Give it a try. On a side note the waitress recommended a fantastic hike we loved.

Vanette F.

Yelp
I wrote a review earlier, but I forgot to mention that strictly organic has fresh decaf drip coffee throughout the day. It is not easy to find flavorful decaf, especially without chemicals, and it's even harder to find it as just drip coffee. I'm thrilled that I can enjoy coffee with her without caffeine throughout the day by stopping here.
google avatar

Alfred S.

Yelp
One of the most pathetic breakfast sandwiches I've ever had. Can you spare some egg and cheese please. No meat. Dry bagel!
google avatar

Debra G.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite coffee places in Bend as they have amazing organic offerings In addition a varsity of gluten free vegetarian and vegan food and freshly made pastries. Best of all dog friendly with treats provided and warming lamps by the tables. It's location is great for walking around and finding hidden Shopping treasures. My coffee was robust and at the right temperature as was the soup and burrito. Complimented my meal with a slice of their gluten free banana bread.

Jasmine B.

Yelp
Their Vegan breakfast burritos are the best! I don't get them as much as I'd like because they are on the expensive side.. Their tea is really great too, can't speak to their coffee I haven't had much of it but what I did try was good.

Pat F.

Yelp
Great vegetarian options. I've had burritos, bowls and wraps. All excellent and inexpensive for Bend! Always friendly and supportive staff. Dirty chai is my favorite coffee drink.
google avatar

Brigitte O.

Yelp
Super chill breakfast spot with breakfast burritos, sandwiches, and coffee. I got the bacon breakfast burrito with red salsa and my boyfriend got the bacon breakfast burrito with green salsa. Both were filling and fresh tasting. Ample indoor and outdoor seating. We walked around the surrounding neighborhood while we waited for our food and the area is so pretty with lots of trees and other plants. Loved the hand soap in the bathroom which felt soft and smooth.
google avatar

Claire G.

Yelp
i go here everytime i'm in town. the food is absolutely delicious. perfect for a meal on your way to ski or snowboard.

Valerie R.

Yelp
Cute little coffee shop with great breakfast burritos- I was especially excited to find that they have gluten free wrap options! They also had several gluten free pastry and cookie options- I didn't sample them this time, but they looked delicious. Friendly vibes inside and a nice little patio area for outdoor seating. Especially big props to Richard and the rest of the staff for going way above and beyond with customer service- I stopped in on a roadtrip and didn't realize I'd left my purse behind until I got home over 3 hours later. They took time out of a busy day and shipped it back to me so I didn't have to spend my weekend driving back to get it. That was way above and beyond what I'd expect! Will definitely stop in again next time I'm passing through
google avatar

Eddie C.

Yelp
Coffee is alright. But they messed up our order and then they were rude about fixing it. Lots of better places to go in bend. Won't be back
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
I've always loved Strictly O. Best breakfast burritos in town. Today I called to place an order ahead of time. The phone was busy/off the hook for over 20 minutes. When I arrived to place my order I conveyed this to the cashier. She picked up the cordless phone and shrugged her shoulders completely nonchalantly. Placed my order and while waiting I observed the coffee roasters hard at work. What was completely off putting was the staff member working maskless and gloveless that picked her nose bagging the beans. She was clearly on display and visible. Appalling
google avatar

Irina P.

Yelp
Unfortunately there is nothing I can say, this coffee was quite bad... not only super biter and over burnt but also a bit cold and milk was also over steamed. For being such a big coffee fan, I got quite disappointed by the one...
google avatar

Amy E.

Yelp
Friendly baristas, great area, and a fun atmosphere. Love coming here to catch up with friends over a tasty cuppa Joe!
google avatar

Sherryn A.

Yelp
I still love Strictly O. Still the best coffee, IMHO. Folks -- the same folks! -- are super nice.
google avatar

Giana S.

Yelp
Their food and drinks are delicious but they get my order wrong almost every single time! So just be prepared to get something a little different than you ordered or make sure to be CRYSTAL CLEAR on what you're asking for!

Liv S.

Yelp
This place isn't what it used to be - taste, price,... and I would advise management to do something about the squatters hanging out inside. One of them flipped out at my child for no reason. Won't be going back : (

Michelle M.

Yelp
Server got my coffee order wrong, not a big deal. When I asked to have it fixed the barista had attitude. I won't go back.
google avatar

Joey H.

Yelp
If you are a godforbidding naturalist that wont take yes for an answer, come here for your enjoyment. And watch out for maybe not the freshest food or beverage. That last cup didn't set right and that salad was brown and too citrusy
google avatar

Danielle H.

Yelp
Great breakfast burritos, BUT you never know how the service will be. Almost every time I've been there the service is terrible. Some of the staff are just impatient and unfriendly. I have experienced a couple nice servers but it's hit or miss.
google avatar

Zack C.

Yelp
Coffee and breakfast burrito were amazing. The potatoes that come in the burrito were super tasty. I would definitely come back here.
google avatar

Kay L.

Yelp
Never going back. When people show you who they are, believe them. The customer service here is not just lacking, it's rude and incompetent! It's almost as if they are trying to push customers away. Drive through server rude, mistakes with order, items missing, food cold, drink made incorrectly.
google avatar

Autumn W.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and with each visit have had to wait at least 20 minutes for my order to be complete. I've used the drive thru option--which is great--but they have you park in the parking lot after you pay and wait for even longer idling your car. Isn't worth it for me, especially when they never apologize for the wait.
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
It common curtesy to serve your customers in the order they arrived and ordered. This curtesy does not exist here
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
Being a previous Coffee shop owner I'm very particular about my coffee and now, being on a strictly organic diet I was worried I was never going to enjoy a good cup of coffee again. And then this happened and I am sold on Strictly Organic Coffee! I had an Organic peppermint mocha and it was one of the best mocha's I've had.....including ones I've made for myself! My Mom had drip coffee, nephew had a White Mocha, and my Sis-in-law had a Vanilla Latte and were all in agreement that it was AMAZING! If you live in Bend or are just traveling through and need an excellent cup of joe this is your place! Friendly, knowledgeable staff, very cool vibe, kid friendly, and worth your time! Four thumbs up from our motley crew
google avatar

Serena B.

Yelp
We've usually had great experiences with Strictly Organic. We love their breakfast burritos, chicken wraps, and coffees especially when they're close to both my husband and I's workplace, we enjoy getting lunch. Lately, we've been unable to successfully order over the phone. I called in today to order lunch, spoke to someone, and was put on hold. I was on hold for 11 minutes before hanging up. I attempted to call back 4 times and met with a busy tone. If there was a way to order online or consider upgrading the phone system to allow more call in orders, I think it would increase satisfaction and allow us in Bend another "drive thru" option.
google avatar

Jackson P.

Yelp
ive been coming to this amazing coffee house for over a decade 7 days a week, but unfortunately today is my last day to buy anything from them! since covid hit I have watched their prices climb for a regular drip coffee from $2 to $2.50 to $3.50....I walked in there today to get my usual dark drip coffee and they wanted $4.25 for a drip coffee!!!! I'm sorry but you've lost your damn mind!!!! it really sucks because I love this place so very much and im going to have hard time not going there but highway robbery on a cup of regular coffee is a sin. and my money is more important to me than good coffee... Ill miss you strictly organic, hopefully you will pull your head out your buttt and figure out how to keep your coffee cheap ..maybe raise prices on food I don't know I don't have the answer but this is absolutely unacceptable... goodbye
google avatar

Norman D.

Yelp
If there were a way to do negative stars I would. Just read the uploaded screenshots; the management has recently changed, for the worse. This used to be a wonderful welcoming warm place to enjoy a cup of coffee or lunch, and now it might as well be owned by Walmart or George Soros. They advertise themselves as being a place where "all are welcome, we don't discriminate." They have signs that say that. I suppose if you have to make a sign to prove you are or aren't a certain kind of place, one should question the validity of such claims. Get rid of the mean old lady and bring back the fun, friendly, community minded leadership that once existed at this rad little shop. Oh and make sure you wear your puffy Patagonia jacket and don't use their wifi because they consider it "stealing". If you're not in the top 10% most wealthy people in Central Oregon, these people will treat you like Starbucks did those two men waiting for a client in Philadelphia. Oh and tip at least 80% or you're a "shitty tipper". The coffee and food are all delicious. As long as you're okay with being treated like shit.
google avatar

Anna B.

Yelp
I've been going here for years, kinda a weird vibe place but still nice. The coffee tends to be... not good so I stick with drip coffee since most of their baristas seem to not be trained well. The lates taste bad pretty much every time. They do okay with chai though. What keeps me going there is they are open really early and their food is great! They have breakfast burritos and sandwiches and amazing scones. I highly recommend them for their breakfast. Their to-go lunch options that I've tried at their old mill location like the wraps are very heavy on lettuce and very low on flavor. So getting the fresh breakfast stuff is the best in my opinion.
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Great location. Ample outdoor seating. Coffee excellent, have not tried the food though looks good. A bit of road noise outside, but tons of stuff to walk to and see. Also close to the old mill district river path
