The 14 Essential Restaurants in Granbury

"One of the big features of this town is Lake Granbury, so of course finding a restaurant on its shores and having some lake food is a must. Stumpy’s serves up burgers, po-boys, tacos, and an array of fried seafood baskets. And there are salads if you swing that way." - Courtney E. Smith, Leslie Chatman

Google
New to Grandbury and my husband said "you're going to like this spot!" Only been there twice and both times, the food has bee spot on! This time around I had the fried catfish and my husband had the brisket tacos. The batter on the catfish was absolutely delicious! It was lite and had just the right amount that coded each fish. It came with fries and two hush puppies. The brisket tacos were different but definitely tasty. The slaw on top of the oh so tender and smokey brisket, made it so hard to put the taco down. Can't wait to ho back and order something different.

Google
The food is always awesome! I usually have some kind of fish when stop here. But I tired a burger this time. !!!! I have to say it was best burger I ever had. Totally awesome!!!!

Google
Cool place. First time and I will be back. Only downside was the bar and ordering drinks. A very slow process with a long line of people waiting as one person is doing everything. Need two or three people pumping out drinks. Food was fresh. Fun spot on the lake.

Google
Everything was great here, the location, the food, the service and dog friendly. Oh the sweets and the shopping too. We will make this a regular stop!

Rachelle Evans

Google
This place was delicious! The prices are very reasonable and the catfish was made fresh and tasted great! They give you free chips and salsa too! And they have a great cupcake and ice cream place on site for dessert too!

Google

Reed Norman

Google
We were on vacation and ran across this place thinking it was a full service restaurant. Well, it's not and if you're not a local it turns into a scavenger hut to order food. On top of that the food was more of a fast food taste. Since it's a server yourself you are invisible to the employees. We did however enjoy the view.

Google
Great place for food and family fun. We went for Taco Tuesday. The tacos are awesome and the bar makes wonderful margaritas. Also, you must try the cupcakes. We want to come back for rib night.

Yelp
Stumpy's Lakeside Grill: A Five-Star Gem by the Lake I am a seasoned foodie and can honestly say that Stumpy's Lakeside Grill is top-notch! This restaurant is located by the waters of Lake Granbury. It's a delightful culinary experience that keeps attracting us back for lunch and dinner. The food and the lake view at this place never disappoint; this is no exaggeration. First things first; let us talk about burgers. These are not your typical shapeless pieces of meat but rather juicy works of art that come with your choice of toppings from their burger bar. Fries are always golden and crispy but perfectly soft in the middle. Furthermore, their fresh, warm, self-serve tortilla chips - made complete with two salsa options are a nice bonus. In my opinion, the addition of queso to their menu would undoubtedly shoot this place into legendary status! Dining at Stumpy's involves the use of all senses. Our favorite tables are located outside where we can view geese and ducks glide across the lake's surface amid its astounding beauty. My daughter also loves feeding them and asks to go see the "quack-quack ducks" all the time. After dining here, you must visit the sweet shop. What I can tell you is that there is nothing like their homemade cupcakes or cookies- they taste so good! Also, make sure to check out the front area that has a gift shop. Our daughter has picked out a cute stuffed animal on several occasions. These are the small things that make this place extra special. One small piece of advice though; it gets crowded at times so whenever possible ensure to arrive early or on weekdays before 5 PM. Planning is advisable given the experience one gets at Stumpy's if visiting during popular hours or on the weekend. Their staff has always been nice each time we go which adds more to the friendly feeling that welcomes everyone who enters Stumpy's. We stumbled upon Stumpy's while looking for a place to eat using Yelp and since then it has been one of our favorite places in Granbury. This is a five-star paradise situated by the lake offering scrumptious meals, top-quality service, and amazing scenery. Make sure not to miss out on this delightful dining experience! Yum!!!

Yelp
We ate here last Sunday and the food was so good plus you get free chips and two different salsas to choose from . I ordered the friend catfish and shrimp and was seasoned so good . Staff very friendly and we're keeping trash and empty food containers picked up . We sat out by the water and watched the fish and feed the geese and fish . I recommend this place for a enjoyable meal

Yelp
This restaurant is really cool! It sits right on the lake and they have a really nice outdoor seating area. Most of the tables line the water, huge area with lots of space for everyone. It was a little annoying sitting by the water while people (a lot of them) tossed their leftover food into the water for the geese and ducks. Not much to mention regarding service, you order at a counter in what id call a boat store / gift shop combo, then get a buzzer to pick up your food. Everyone was friendly so that counts. The food was okay... I definitely think their staple is fried food. We had 2 orders of grilled fish tacos, and 2 orders of friend catfish for our table. The fish tacos were boring and honestly a little fishy. Definitely wouldn't order them again nor recommend them. The fried catfish, French fries, and hush puppies were all good! I think you're best off sticking to that type of food, which would be par for the course at a busy lakeside restaurant. I'd go back because the place was cool, I wouldn't go back expecting the best meal you'll ever have.

Yelp
Holy mackerel the size of this salad was crazy big! It also was perfectly balanced with the right amount of sweet, tart, and salty. I would love to stop by here again when visiting Granbury. The restaurant was a little empty which made me sad because the food was so good. The location was right next to the docks, as it says in its name, so my husband and I walked around right after. i suggest you visit.

Yelp
Stumpy's is a Lake Granbury favorite apparently.  Best known for its outdoor seating by the water and boat access by the locals.  It's a small town lakeside store, counter service restaurant, ice cream parlor, and bar all rolled into one.  It's certainly kid friendly which keeps it locked in the very casual category.  Nothing fancy here as there is food all over the place from the little ones dropping it on the floor/deck and kids* running around everywhere.  So not a good date night or hang out and have a conversation kinda place.  But if you wanna roll in in your bathing suit, ball cap, and flip flops  - you'll fit right in here. The bar has massive cold frosty mugs for serving a variety of beers or margaritas.  They have a small selection on tap and the margs are made for fast order (pre-mixed with bottle pump flavors) - so don't expect a craft cocktail here.  I opted for the grilled fish tacos.  They were actually decent to my surprise.  The coleslaw tasted fresh and they had some slim sliced spicy jalapenos to top them off which was a nice touch.  While I didn't try it, the fried fish and shrimp baskets my mom got looked good, but it was just too much fried stuff for me.  The thing that turned me off was the fact there were no signs about not feeding the water fowl and fish.  They have no respect for the marine life there.  People were just tossing fried food to them and the staff was even sweeping the scraps of fallen food into the water.  You would think being part of the ecosystem there they would be more considerate of sharing the space.  Maybe with all the profits they could provide healthy food options for these creatures for the guests to feed and that could be a draw to come there.  But no - they are literally endangering these creatures by feeding them this stuff.  This was a big turn off for me and dropped my stars from 3 to 2.

Yelp
This is a really fun place to go in Granbury. Nothing fancy, but good food right on the water. You gotta go when you're in town!

Susan H.

Yelp
Good food and food prices but few choices that are not fried! Souvenirs and clothes are offered but very expensive - too expensive . Always busy with a bit of a wait but all in all we go back to enjoy the patio waterfront ambiance - feeding the geese ducks turtles and carp from the dock adds to the fun when visiting Granbury.

Yelp
We were looking for a restaurant on the lake that had a nice view. The majority of the reviews were high, so we decided this was our lunch spot to try while we're in the area! I'm confused by these reviews as the food was truly lacking. The fried shrimp in the tacos had a very bad flavor, which resembled dirty dish water. We also tried a fried catfish & shrimp basket which tasted alright compared to the shrimp in our tacos. The catfish was fairly average, fried in cornmeal. I just have to emphasize that the shrimp in our tacos genuinely made me nauseous and I'm usually not a harsh critic. Even if the shrimp had tasted good, it was generally a weird combination of flavors as it was melted cheddar cheese, a plain slaw, and jalapeños on the taco. The service was okay, nothing special. You order in what appears to be a gift shop area then seat yourself and grab your food once the pager buzzes. They also have a small dessert area with cupcakes and icecream. About $3 for one cupcake, which wasn't anything to write home about. Maybe we caught them on an off day, but overall, we were really disappointed and wouldn't risk trying it again.

Yelp
Lunch stop on the way to Abilene. Saw this joint on The Daytripper and decided to try. When you first walk in, it has a SoCal surf shop vibe. Oddly enough, you order food at the same counter where you pay for everything else in the store. Ordered the grilled fish tacos and a straight-up burger with fries and a side of hush puppies. The tacos were really good, with fresh jalapeños and slaw. The burger was just Ok, nothing special. Worst off was the puppies, although they had good flavor...were cold. Great outdoor seating to view the lake. May come back to try something else...we'll see.

G S.

Yelp
Great food, try the Shrimp Tacos and the Swirl Margaritas. Lots of great indoor and outdoor seating on Lake Granbury. Amazing shopping opportunities-don't miss the clearance section in the back corner of the retail area. And before you leave grab a cupcake in their bakery!

Yelp
On a girl's trip, we went for dinner at the marina restaurant called Stumpy's. It was a little confusing, How you were supposed to order.... You had to order your food and drinks at the gift shop area, but the restaurant was on the other side of a hallway past another small dessert business. It had a good selection of fish and american food and the prices were reasonable. My friend actually ordered a kid's meal and it was extremely ample. I ordered fish.It was delicious hot and fresh. The hush puppies were very small. Another friend ordered the chicken strip basket And it came loaded with several chicken strips. She said it was delicious and reminded her of cain's chicken. They also had free chips and salsa for everyone. The drinks were refillable and were served in a styrofoam cup, which I appreciated on such a hot day. They also had a bar with pickles. And lettuce, tomatoes and other things. To put on your sandwich or your basket, whatever you had ordered. The restaurant was surprisingly clean for being part of a marina. There were not servers per se, but they did have people to pick up your trash for you. When your order was ready, you had to pick it up from a small window. After we finished eating, we went outside on the dock and saw all the geese, ducks and giant catfish. Would I eat here again?Yes I absolutely would!

Yelp
Extremely casual and consistently excellent food. A really clean place, on the lake with friendly staff and great food! Hard to beat!
google avatar

Beth-Ann G.

Yelp
Came here since reviews were pretty good. Great concept and seating- that's it! The fresh burger was 100% frozen and NO away it was 1/2 pound. My cod and fries were also rubbery and not fresh. Fries cold- was just not worth the $35 what so ever! Come but don't expect any good quality of food. (Especially when it's ready in 2 min- for sure pre cooked) Will not be back
google avatar

Ryanne D.

Yelp
Not what we expected, but definitely worth the stop. You walk into a gift shop and order your food there. You also have to go to the counter to get your food when it's ready. Then you can go sit anywhere, inside or outside. On your way to the table area or bar area they have this AMAZING cupcake section for dessert. Beautiful and fluffy and lots of flavors of cupcakes. Service was friendly and welcoming. Very patient when our group took a bit to order. It was a beautiful day outside so we chose to sit on the patio. It's covered and partially enclosed. It was nice to look out at the water. The food didn't take very long. They had happy hour w free chips and salsa....the kids enjoyed that. They have a bar to make your own burgers to add the fixins. Prices were reasonable. We were HUNGRY, so don't have pics of our food, but it was all delicious. Catfish and grilled shrimp basket Chicken fingers basket BYOB burgers Buffalo chicken tacos Bar drinks were good. My husband got a pecan old fashion, very smooth and delicious. I got wine...wine was good, glass was dirty. Restrooms were clean enough. A couple stalls didn't have TP.
google avatar

Donna S.

Yelp
The food was fine. The service is non existent. It's serve yourself and get your own food and drinks. Not what I expected. When I'm paying that much for a taco I want someone to bring it to me.
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
Taco Tuesdays are the best! Always great to sit outside on the oversized patio areas and look out over the water and enjoy the geese and ducks in the lake. Cold beer selection always helps. The Buffalo Chicken Caesar taco might be the best on the menu!
google avatar

Paula Y.

Yelp
Great tacos, great service from the local high school and college students and fun atmosphere
google avatar

Terri N.

Yelp
It's a cute but not fancy place with relaxing outside dining by the lake. All of the food we have ordered has been great! I highly recommend this place.

Cassandra F.

Yelp
great food and service; the bar is wonderful, too! The ambiance is nice; being able to enjoy your food while admiring the lake view.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
It was very mediocre. It maybe because everyone hyped it up but I was not impressed by the food and drinks were high priced.

J. H.

Yelp
We really liked it! BTW, as a leftover 3 hours later in the fridge the onion rings were as crispy as when ordered not soggy one iota. Amazing and best. Stopped by for the first time for lunch. In the past we got cupcakes. Enjoyed our meal and cupcakes again. I ordered the (2) Catfish & (4) Shrimp Combo which includes Toast, 2 Hushpuppies, and fries (substituted onion rings for an upcharge.) The meal portion was enough for 2 people to split. I wish they offered coleslaw as a way to balance it out . The Bacon Cheeseburger w/fries and a pickle. We also ordered 6 cupcakes: Lemon Blueberry, Death by Chocolate, Coconut, Peanut Butter, German Chocolate, and Caramel. They have a machine that offers free warm tortilla strips. They also have a bar offering free salsa and burger toppings like red onions, jalapeños, pickles, and condiments. Great scenic view while we ate. Would love to come back and try their fish tacos.
google avatar

Jennifer O.

Yelp
Has a decent build your own burger with toppings offered buffet style, and other typical fried offerings like catfish and shrimp. It can be crowded and noisy at times. I like when we can get a shaded table by the water and watch the enormous carp swarm at the surface looking for discarded chips and fries. I don't have a boat but I've seen many people arrive by boat and they have a dock person right there to greet you.
google avatar

Stacie P.

Yelp
Love being on the water. Food decent, drinks are amazing! Cute little shop in the front.

Summer M.

Yelp
Great informal laid-back place for a good burger or catfish or shrimp salad AND fabulous Sangria Margaritas! Good service - you order at the front counter and then go to another counter for adult drinks! Live the lakeside atmosphere and can either sit inside or outside at waters edge! We found that some folks saved their leftovers from eating and fed to the ducks and carp! Amazing watching all of those ducks and carp! Don't forget to meander through the gift shop section up front ! Love the Hawaiian flip flops- most comfy ever! Highly recommend for very casual dining!

Yelp
Stumpys is a unique restaurant with a new surprise around every corner. When you first walk in, you walk into their store and then can see the counter where you can order food and drinks. The staff was friendly and speedy as the line was long, but they moved people through quickly. After you order you are given a buzzer and then you can go find a table. On the way to the tables, you walk by their sweet shack where the smell of fresh baked cookies and waffle cones make sure you'll come by after your meal for a sweet treat. Seating is available in two inside areas and an outdoor patio right off of the lake. Once your buzzer goes off, you go to the window and pick up your food, and then behind you is a condiment and topping bar. Free chips and salsa are also available here. The food was good. I will say my husband's fried catfish was better than my grilled shrimp poboy, mostly due to the seasoning on the shrimp being very salty and overpowering. We both agreed that the Chipotle tartar sauce was phenomenal, and their fresh cut fries were delicious. After our meal, we headed to the sweet shack for sowm ice cream, cup cakes, and pup cakes. The ice cream is Bluebell, so you can't go wrong, and their cupcake flavors are great. Good selection, but I will say their frosting is super sweet, so if you're someone like myself who doesn't have the biggest sweet tooth, you might want to try a cookie or other sweet treat. Our dogs thoroughly enjoyed their pup cakes.

Brenda B.

Yelp
Stumpy's can bump a big stump!!! We will never try to dine there again after the sorry treatment we received there. My grandchildren were really disappointed.

Cody S.

Yelp
Valentines ribeyes were excellent. Beer was cold. Service was good. We ate outside on the deck. Don't feed the ducks.
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
Stumpy's is our favorite casual dining and gathering spot. You can sit outside by the water, watch boats, geese or ducks or inside in cooler comfort. The food is consistently excellent and the staff is friendly and quick to respond to any need. The condiment bar, free chips and salsa, not to mention cold pickles, make Stumpy's our number one go to spot in Granbury! A great value.
google avatar

Grady H.

Yelp
Food and service always amazing!! Taco Tuesday is the bomb, and Friday is the best ribs in Hood County!!

Lee P.

Yelp
Great place to eat for burgers, tacos, and free chips. Don't forget to get a cupcake on the way out.
google avatar

Debbie G.

Yelp
Great seafood, customer service and atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Indoor and outside sitting available.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
Delicious food and fun for all. Right on the lake! We had catfish-very delicious. Very laid back and mostly self serve
google avatar

Marissa D.

Yelp
Upon entering, the two blonde staff members at the front displayed a surprising lack of courtesy, failing to offer even a basic greeting. Despite extending a friendly "hi" myself, their response was... nothing. The indifferent attitude persisted, overshadowing an otherwise average dining experience. The food, while passable, couldn't quite compensate for the off-putting demeanor of these particular staff members. Credit is due to the diligent table cleaner, who stood out as a beacon of hospitality in contrast to the less-than-friendly welcome from the front. Unfortunately, the overall impression remains tainted by the reception, warranting a modest 3-star rating.
google avatar

Debbie Mitchell P.

Yelp
Very good food and the food is cooked fresh. The staff is Friendly. Love the environment.

Marquis C.

Yelp
This place was cute and I loved the sweet shack I think they call it but the food is horrible I read all the good reviews so I came nothing at all like the reviews I do not recommend this place
google avatar

Ross W.

Yelp
I always get the Catfish/Shrimp combination and I'm never disappointed. I love that it's right on the lake.
google avatar

Margie W.

Yelp
I LOVE everything about Stumpy's! As an avid boater on Lake Granbury, I frequently stop here with my family for a casual dining experience al fresco next to the water, as I can dock the boat there and step on their dock. I always enjoy their juicy burgers, fried shrimp, crispy salads, and ice cold drinks. While waiting, I often go shopping in the store for purses, shoes, clothes, sunglasses, or jewelry. So put down that fishing pole and stop in for a bite, y'all!
google avatar

Josh L.

Yelp
Awesome food and great ambiance if you're looking for bar vibe on a lake. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Cynthia B.

Yelp
This is a wonderful restaurant on Lake Granbury. You order when you go inside at the counter in a gift shop then they give you a buzzer to wait on your food to pick up in the next room at counter. They have chips and salsa to help yourself which was very good. You can sit inside or outside. We sat outside by the water and lots of ducks in the lake. So pretty. I got a salad with grilled shrimp and balsamic dressing. My husband got the fried shrimp basket. The shrimp on both were huge and delicious!! Would definitely go back.
google avatar

Cindy P.

Yelp
Good food and good service. If you like fish tacos try the grilled fished tacos with grilled jalapeños.

Jim E.

Yelp
Good place to eat. Very clean place and courteous staff. Free chips and salsa, good hamburgers and catfish. Somewhat pricey but that is the trend now. Cold beer.
google avatar

Holly W.

Yelp
This restaurant is much fun, you can feed the ducks and geese off the patio! It's seat yourself and you have to go up to the counter to order food then to the bar for drinks. They have staff walking around at all times though so if you need anything they're quick to help. The jalapeño margarita is THE BEST I've ever had! The fried fish tacos were amazing. Their pineapple slaw and jalapeños complimented each other perfectly. The buffalo Caesar tacos were just okay, there was a lot of buffalo and just a little Caesar. I thought the chicken was a little dry but my husband didn't so it's probably just up to personal preference. Overall, if you're trying to decide whether to go or not, JUST GO haha

James C.

Yelp
Three stars for the ambiance, but the food on our last visit was terrible. My wife ordered a burger & sweet potato fries. The fries were good, but the burger was cold & dry Being Taco Tuesday, I ordered two grilled fish tacos. They came out cold and were flavorless except for the jalapeños. I had to drown them in aioli to eat. The tortilla on one was soggy and the other must've been sitting out for a month Had this not been a large family gathering, it would've gone back.
google avatar

Deb S.

Yelp
We love Stumpies. Share fish tacos and onion rings with our siblings for " sister day" once or twice a year. Seating at the lake Dock level is fun and different than more formal eateries. We like that the food is freshly made and quick. Parking is plentiful weekdays and selection great. The dessert room is sooo tempting. The lakeside ambiance is great even on hot Texas summer days . Give them a try
google avatar

Beverly B.

Yelp
Best lakeside grill I've ever been in. Plan on feeding the birds on the dock while you eat.

Dianne J.

Yelp
My daughter, granddaughter, and I ate dinner at Stumpy's on Friday, April 5, 2024. We each had something different but all became ill within the next 7 - 12 hours with stomach upset and diarrhea. We all drank the water which we were concerned was the problem.
google avatar

Paislea W.

Yelp
really good food and really nice staff. I love the view of the lake and the interaction with the wildlife. Wonderful shop but a little bit pricey.
google avatar

Salomon D S.

Yelp
Stumpy's is one of my favorite places to go in Granbury. The food doesn't knock your socks off, but it's a super solid spot and it's perfect for an afternoon lunch or a simple evening dinner. I always enjoy whatever I order. Service is always super friendly and we never wait long for our food. They also have chips and salsa with the rest of their self-serve condiments station (which I think is a thoughtful touch). The atmosphere is relaxed, and the view of the lake is beautiful. I highly recommend Stumpy's!
google avatar

Amber C.

Yelp
Fish basket was great. Patio was great. Love the chips & salsa. It's a little pricey but good overall!
google avatar

Gabriela M.

Yelp
Good food and fast service love the chips and salsa too-by pickup bar. Parking can get full
