Sub Rosa Margate - Review - Margate - London - The Infatuation

"If you thought that a little happening seaside town in Kent is safe from the influences of New York’s eating culture then you would be very wrong. Nowhere is safe. And also, nowhere isn’t improved by the presence of bagels. Sub Rosa in Margate specialises in NYC-style bagels—meaning crispy crusts and soft interiors packed with fillings. For the most part, it does a half-decent impression. The bagels (a little downsized by NYC standards) have a crisp exterior and the lox, filled with salmon, cream cheese, and a skimpy handful of capers and red onion, hits all the marks. If you’re after a train snack that isn’t of the fried variety, Sub Rosa does the trick. photo credit: Jake Missing" - Jake Missing

The best bagels ever, no exaggeration. Super-generous chunky helpings with the lushest quality ingredients. A charming shop and lovely people. One of our favourite Margate lunches to pick up on those days you want your socks knocked off by something properly satisfying.

Wow! Had two amazing bagels yesterday. Sausage egg & cheese and Philly cheesesteak. Both were incredible! The lady serving us was super lovely too.

I visited Sub Rosa while trying to recapture the feeling of a trip to New York, where I fell in love with proper bagels. But honestly, the bagels here were ten times better than anything I had in the US. Fresh, chewy, full of flavour and just perfect. The staff are super friendly too, which makes the whole experience even better. I actually once flew back from Dublin just to try a new bagel menu item here. That’s how good this place is. Keep doing what you’re doing, Sub Rosa. You’ve got something really special going on.

We always love coming here! The best bagels in all of the UK, super authentic, fresh and delicious! They are a dog friendly place, and the owners are just lovely, thank you!

I wanted to like this place, it looked so promising when we were passing by and spotted it from the street. However, the bagels were subpar, especially the dough - it felt too dense and hard to digest. The fillings were ok, but nothing special. The place is nice on the inside and the service is quite welcoming. Maybe it was bad luck and they normally have better dough or maybe it was just not to our taste.

This place is cool and the bagel I had was really tasty but I only acquired one on my 4th visit to the shop. The other three times I came they were sold out which makes me question why they stay open until 3pm if they are consistently sold out before then. Sadly the coffee was also very bitter and burnt.

We visited on a busy Saturday brunch time and was greeted with welcome smiles. We ordered one lox and one egg, cheese & mushroom. Both were absolutely delicious, the flavour and freshness of both was fantastic! Wishing I could eat another right now!

My friend and I visited and wanted a smoked salmon bagel-my friend asked for a plain smoked salmon bagel as she is unable to eat some of the other fillings- to which the person serving said ‘No, we can’t do that as it won’t be a good experience and you won’t have a good time’ Not at all accommodating. I have edited this in response to the reply I received. I did not get the chance to eat here so cannot comment on the food. The bagel I WOULD have ordered looked delicious. It was not my intention to upset anyone by leaving an honest review-we would have been happy to pay full price for the second salmon bagel without all the trimmings and would have then been in a position to do a 5 star review. As it was-we were not given that option.
