Suehiro Cafe Review - Little Tokyo - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"After more than 50 years in Little Tokyo, Suehiro Cafe relocated to this larger location on Main Street in DTLA. Much like a classic diner, the menu is long. You might even get a little overwhelmed flipping through pages of sushi rolls, donburi, ramen, and cold soba. But when in doubt, get the okonomi plate. It's a choose-your-own-adventure with this three-item combo tray, but we always order the broiled mackerel, crispy gyozas, and cold tofu. Since they close at midnight on weekends, keep Suehiro in mind for a sit-down Japanese meal after bar-hopping near downtown." - Nikko Duren

Where To Get Affordable Takeout In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"This 47-year-old Little Tokyo joint, which was originally started by two sisters, is filled with all kinds of Japanese comfort foods, like chicken katsu curry, oyakodon (stir-fried chicken and egg), and zaru soba. Plus, most things cost less than $15 here - which actually might be even more comforting than the food itself. Call (213) 626-9132 or order through their website." - Kat Hong

Google
Authentic Japanese food in a relaxed setting with outstanding customer service—attentive but never pushy. They check in just enough to make sure everything is perfect. The food tastes amazing! I only tried a few dishes, but I can’t wait to come back for more. First time in LA, I really like this place!!’

Google
Amazing food! Fair prices, wonderful staff! The menu has classic Japanese dishes and sushi. They have food/drink happy hour 3-6pm.

The owner and other great employees provide excellent service. We often visit because they have outside seating so we can bring our dogs‼︎ The last time I had dessert for the first time, they offered tea with it and we had a wonderful time! Thank you so much for always excellent service💕

Google
Kenji is great, the chef that comes on Tuesdays is a real traditional Japanese chef who knows how to cook clean healthy perfected food, the Atmosphere is amazing. Every waiter that has served me has been super nice to me and caring. Definitely the best Japanese restaurant in LA, hands down. There are many other places but for every dish to be just as good as the other speaks for itself.

Google
Absolutely stunning Japanese cuisine! Highly recommended in the LADT area! Everything here is so authentic—the karaage is super juicy, the ramen is incredibly flavorful, and every dish we ordered was just amazing. The only downside is the portion size of the highball—it’s way too small! Aren’t authentic highballs supposed to come in large beer mugs? That’s the real deal! Oh well, it’s LA… guess I’ll let it slide.

New location, nice atmosphere, open late on weekends, nice and affordable lunch menu. Chicken mench katsu was so yummy 😋

Man, I can't believe this is my first time leaving a review just because I want to! Their house special blew my mind. I seriously thought I couldn't stand eggplants until I tried this super evenly-cooked one. It was nuts! So good. The best restaurant in LA.. You’d never find this quality food at this price in DTLA… also nice place to eat alone!

Google
I. LOVED. IT. This place is packed for good reason. And it WAS. Be prepared to wait. The food is legendary- delicious, fresh, and authentic. And they have a happy hour! Update: the curry plate is a BANGER!

Yelp
i just have to start this review with a WOW i can't believe how late this place is open until, especially on saturdays like 3am bro? what a blessing and what a time to be alive! after going to a show, friends and i got a spicy tuna and tempura roll. both were really well made. def need to come back and try more things next time. the service was friendly and attentive. really nice ambiance, has the old style architecture of los angeles combined with a slight japanese aesthetic. the bathrooms are really nice like probably the nicest i've ever seen in downtown lol.

Yelp
The food was very tasty and the scenery was also very nice and pleasant. I got the curry rice and lychee cocktail. The rice curry was good and not spicy but you can add spicy for an extra charge of $1.50 I think, overall the curry rice is $15-$16 for a good size plate and a good amount of rice. The lychee cocktail is not bad at all, I loved the taste and the alcohol taste wasn't strong but also wasn't sugary. The server was nice and did his job well, it was a slow day so service was quick but all in all very good experience! I would go again

Yelp
Came on Valentine's Day with a party of 5, which to an extent, is understandable why it may be overwhelming for the restaurant but too many things we experienced shouldn't have happened. For starters, we waited a fairly long time, which was fine, but there were at least two tables sat empty for about half an hour - it was probably reserved but there should've been a rule on how late the guest can be late before it's given away to another party. We later decided to just seat outside since there are heaters, but they took 20 minutes to get the heaters running for us while we were already seated. We ordered our food, and it took another while for them to bring out each individual item to us. My friend's beef udons were over cooked, and the server would forget multiple times the things we requested for like an extra spoon. On top of that, halfway through all my friend's meals (I didn't get my order yet), they informed me that they ran out of Salmon for my Salmon Ikura Don and offered me an alternative. By the time I received my food, which was just an Ikura Don (basically just ikura and rice), my friends were done eaten. Unsure if I'd be back; I heard this place was better back when they were in Little Tokyo! Ambience was nice, but they are in need of some organization!

Yelp
I loved the old Suehiro space so I try to stop here when I can. Food is generously portioned, service is prompt, and food is just as delicious as I remember. This is also a great place for drinks and appetizers with friends. And after visiting Japan, I was excited to enjoy a highball here, with Japanese whiskey. I highly recommend.

Yelp
Amazed how good the food is here. Stopped in after a late night show - food came really quickly, and service was fast and attentive. I ordered the salmon ochazuke and absolutely loved it. Great portion sizes and beautiful plating The dessert was delicious

Yelp
Was hoping to order the omurice but apparently it's only available one weekday per week. Too bad it was a Friday night. So ended up getting the second best option the Nabeyaki Udon, spicy. Hit the spot just right. Had. Minor headache from the drink earlier. Also ordered the salmon chazuke which I was not a fan. Too fishy boo

Yelp
I miss the old Suehiro location only because it was centrally located in the hustle and bustle of Little Tokyo. The new location kinda makes up for it because it now occupies another iconic downtown space (Pete's Cafe) and I couldn't be happier for the glow up. I absolutely love the expansive menu at Suehiro because it can satiate any Japanese food craving you may have. And any choice you make is a pretty solid one. We started off with an order with chicken karaage ($14.50). The moist chicken was lightly battered and proportionally generous. Accompanying the chicken are various dipping sauces - a mayo + ponzu combo that kinda enhances the flavor of the chicken. Solid way to start your meal. For entrees, I shared the following: -chicken katsu curry ($20.25): chicken cutlet with curry sauce with onion, carrot, mushroom + potato over rice -cha soba ($14.75): cold buckwheat with matcha tea noodles with Suehiro's original dipping sauce First of all, I'd like to point out that Suehiro's chicken katsu curry is the only Japanese curry I've ever had that includes mushrooms. I don't care whether this is authentic or not. I was just delightfully surprised by the inclusion of an additional veggie other than the usual. With that said, the chicken katsu was fried to perfection and the curry was smoldering with so much depth. I also very much enjoyed the soba. The noodles were al dente and gave the slightest bit of matcha. Highly recommend checking out the new Suehiro location.

Yelp
This is an excellent and fun Japanese restaurant in a cool area of downtown LA. Service was above average. I decided to move tables to the outdoor patio and was reseated promptly. My main of mackerel with rice was very tasty, really enjoyed it. The vege tempura also was great and I liked there was not too much batter on it like most places. I also enjoyed the cute 6oz. bottle of Saki. I also ordered 2 grilled skewers of cauliflower and zucchini($7 each)that were fun and tasty. I paid a total of $57 and an additional $15 tip for good service. Highly recommended. I plan to visit again soon to try out other selections on the extensive menu.

Yelp
4/5 cheap Japanese comfort food at its finest. Walked here during Broadway Night Lights, so surrounding streets were fairly activated. Honestly not sure id otherwise venture here by foot as Main St and the surrounding streets are relatively sketchy. Case in point there was a transient man sleeping at the inoperable back entrance to the restaurant. Now the actual review: Prices were 100% right. Really reasonably priced food for Los Angeles. Menu is a bit off intimidating if you're used to super Americanized Japanese food as there are some more traditional, less popularized items on the menu. Service is quick and friendly. They don't seem to be overly pushy but they are very popular and clearly want to turn tables. Or actually recommend reservations for this place even though it's pretty casual. We had the beef hayashi rice and the shrimp tempura set. Both meals came with some wonderfully warming miso soup. The beef hayashi rice was simple yet complex. Comforting is the word is through at this one as well. It's just tender shredded beef cooked in an umami yet slightly sweet brown gravy with mushrooms and onions played over steamed white rice. Not much else going on but it felt really good for the soul. We added a fried egg to the dish and which I'd say is a must. Adds an extra layer to an otherwise fairly simple and straightforward dish. We also ordered the shrimp tempura set which consisted of 5 whole fried tempura battered shrimp, tempura carrot, tempura green bean, tempura eggplant, and tempura kabocha with a cabbage salad, picked vegetables and macaroni salad and a side of rice. The dish was served with a side of grated ginger and dipping tendon sauce. This was a lot of food. I barely touched the rice. I'd say the quality was higher than your average Japanese takeout but certainly lower than Carlos Tendon Jr in Torrance which id say is the LA tempura gold standard. Maybe an unfair comparison as I had Carlos Tendon earlier in the week? The variety of this plate which included the fat cutting pickled veggies and salad was appreciated when compared to the simpler more one note hiyashi rice. Overall really enjoyed this place and would frequent regularly if it was in a slightly less sketchy neighborhood.

Yelp
I love this spot. It's my favorite go-to Japanese comfort food place in all of LA now. Their cozy booths really can only be had with a reservation, but the best part about this place is their authentic Japanese bar connected next door. They even hand-chisel imported Japanese block ice just like they do in the Land of The Rising Sun. It's a perfect way to end a reasonably priced meal, a lovingly created night cap (or 3) next door without having to park or take a Waymo somewhere else. And the craziest (and best) part is their kitchen is indeed open until 3 AM. Now that's what I'm talking about!
google avatar

Yelp
I think the best part about living in downtown LA is the fact that it is so convenient to get to everywhere you want to go and that there are so many different food options to choose from! We're all waiting to hear when Oceanwide Plaza is going to be completed, since that would definitely improve the living standard in the area, as well as help to clean up the neighborhood. IMO, the addition of the new Weingart Towers is a nice touch and long overdue, as skid row seems to have gotten worse since the pandemic. This place is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a simple and affordable lunch menu that also offers generous portion sizes and good quality food. The curry chicken entree is definitely worth a return visit!!

Yelp
Late night authentic Japanese eats AND amazing bar scene. I went with my boyfriend and a friend a few nights ago, and I was so taken aback by everything-- the food and liquor selection, service, and the decor is top tier. For dinner, I got chicken katsu curry which was phenomenal (my picture doesn't do it justice) and my boyfriend got pork udon which he said was "one of the best I've ever had." We also shared a hot jasmine tea which was a delicious selection. The bar area is separate, and a nice quaint environment. Rudy, the bartender was amazing in giving a prelude cocktail while we browsed the drink menu. The specialty drinks I had were all amazing, my favorites being the Peach Kid (picture included) and Q&A, a well balanced mezcal cocktail. The Japanese whiskey selection was cool to look at, there is a separate menu for this. They have one in their library that only had a very few bottles sent to the US. Side note: the women's restroom was HUGE and a great photo opp too. They also have a booth near the restroom that is more a homage to the original location. Definitely a must if you're a ramen enthusiast or just a foodie in general. So happy I could come here and will be visiting again soon, fingers crossed!

Yelp
Prices are steep. I probably would not come back here to order sushi rolls. The other items seemed fine but for $15.75, I got 6 tiny pieces for my unagi avocado roll. As comparison, these were smaller than grocery store sushi rolls. It was not worth the money. Not only were they small, my order had been forgotten and it came out really late. So I was hungry to begin with and after finishing the roll, which was just okay, I was still hungry.

Yelp
Great list of Japanese comfort food items at reasonable prices with good service! Came here for a weeknight dinner last night, and it was a pleasant experience. Although we walked in without reservations, I have a good feeling reservations are encouraged on weekends. I ordered the House Special with chicken (comes with chopped mushrooms and bell peppers in miso sauce) which comes with a bowl of rice, side salad, and seaweed salad, my friend one ordered their Katsu curry, and we shared the chicken karaage. The portions are really big (I had leftovers for lunch) and all of the dishes were very flavorful. Service was good and attentive, and I personally loved sitting at the booth. Metered street parking is your best option, free after 8pm on weeknights. Don't forget to stop by the bowl of Hi-Chews on your way out!

Yelp
This was my first time here and can honestly say it was a perfect pick for our lunch date. The selection of Sake was very intriguing. You must try the Sparkling Jelly Sake. You won't regret it. I just wish it was a bit colder. The restaurant was hot when we arrived and the quickly turned on the AC which was very nice of them. Considering it was a hot Summer day in DTLA. Overall the experience was great and service was excellent. My friend said her meal was great and mine was good as well. Nothing over the top. But totally worth giving it a try.

Yelp
I remember coming to Suehiro for lunch during the week when they were in Little Tokyo. I'm glad I'm back to try them again. I came for lunch but on the weekend. I had cold ramen, mixed tempura, calamari, sushi and more. The food is just as good as I remember from their old location. The service and the modern feel of the place is great.

Yelp
We went back this past Sunday. It was befitting with the tale of the booth under the stairs. My boyfriend picked up after a few days of travel and even though we were both tired, this was the spot I wanted to go at 9 o'clock at night. We both got our own choice of udon. He liked it so much from my bowl the last time he made sure he had his own. We got to sit in a more private booth this time that was a nice experience. Service was tentative but also funnily too tentative to all customers that we just paid up front.
google avatar

Yelp
Another one of the Japanese restaurants I've tried recently. Came here for lunch on a Saturday and we were the only ones here. Parking was a bit of a challenge unless one chooses to park at one of the pricey parking lots nearby. The spicy tuna roll was pretty good. It was served with shiso leaves inside, which was a bit unusual. The batter on the tempura was crunchy but in a hard and heavy way. It lacked the light crunchiness of a well prepared tempura. The tanindon was also just ok. The beef and eggs lack texture.
google avatar

Yelp
Really wanted some soup and this place happened to close late. Bf got the house special and he loved it! The customer service was great and such nice bathrooms! Very friendly!

Yelp
Everything we had was absolutely delicious! Huge selection on the menu, and while that's usually a notorious red flag, from what I could tell, it's all super tasty. Party of two and we had chicken karaage, gyoza, katsu curry, and suehiro udon. Reasonably priced, great service, would go again in a heartbeat.

Yelp
This is not the same Suehiro you're used to. But, as soon as you sit down you will see that the new Suehiro definitely sprang from the loins of the old place. (look at the wall, silly!) This is a brand new restaurant with a new look, new staff, and new menu. It's a little more pricey than the old place, which is fine- the food at the old place was a little bit expensive for what you got. The new joint has food that will likely meet your expectations vis a vis the pricing. The menu is smaller, but still diverse, and many favorites (ikura over rice, shishito peppers, plenty of sake options) are still there. I'm not sure if it self-identifies as an izakaya, but that's basically what it is. This means smaller, cheaper, interesting dishes. You'll definitely want to order a few things. I sat at the bar, and the two kids serving were great, just the right vibe for this kind of place. 85 bucks and a small bottle of nigori later, 2 of us left feeling satisfied. Parking is a bit scarce, and it's not the greatest neighborhood, so i suggest parking real close, or a little deeper into populated downtown and hoofing it. All in all, it's a good place that honors the legacy of its ancestors, while managing to nicely update with the times. I wish them well, and i'll certainly be back. Like probably tonight! Kanpai!

Yelp
Suehiro is a neat, spacious Japanese restaurant in DTLA where you can find good Japanese fare across rice sets, ramen/udon, or whatever you're feeling that's also open late. We came late Saturday and place was half busy . We got some booth seating which was nice. Service was attentive. The udon had good chew and broth was comforting - beef a bit over cooked but decent. Would come back if craving Japanese food in the area late night!
google avatar

Melanie G.

Yelp
I got the Chazuke with salmon and it was a wonderful, warm comfort meal. Presented beautifully as well. It's a good amount of food for around $16. The broth is light but flavorful, and the mix of salmon, onions and seaweed are too. The seaweed salad is good on the side for a more fresh and less heavy cut. It took a little bit to be seated and it's a quieter atmosphere with more reserved, but polite staff.
google avatar

Yelp
Japanese comfort food with no frills is what you'll find here. Got the popular items per yelp: HIYASHI RICE This beef stew over rice has a flavor reminiscent of korean jajangmyeon; black bean and savory. No tough pieces of beef, and added an egg over for some heartiness. KATSU CHICKEN CURRY This was solid, although on the hotter side even at mild which is surprisingly hot for japanese levels of spice. The carrots and potatoes were tender; the katsu had a light fry too it, didn't feel too heavy or weighed down after. Enjoyable experience, japanese home cooking, but nothing to really write home about. I was visiting, and with the competitive food scene not sure that I would return, but would recommend to locals who are seeking japanese comfort food.

Luisamaria F.

Yelp
If I could afford to come here every weekend I would. The vegan menu has considerable options. And of the options that are available, they are perfected. Service is top notch. And the code is what keeps me coming back. Casual but not too casual
google avatar

Riley K.

Yelp
THE HOUSE SPECIAL is legit just GOAT. It comes with meat, eggplants, and some bell peppers, and you can choose from beef, pork, or chicken(also salad and miso soup! and some seaweeds). I hated eggplants (still not a fan), but I actually eat theirs, which are just amazing. If you have friends who don't like eggplant because of the taste, bring them along... I did, and it worked out great! The tempura was also really good! It's more on the soft side rather than super crunchy (I actually like it softer). The staff was really nice, and the restroom was pretty! The space is also good for a lot of people, but it's better to reserve a table if you're coming with a group. I would say it's a good spot to hang out with your loved ones! There's a paid parking structure right across the street, plus some street parking available!
google avatar

Samantha L.

Yelp
Good food but pretty pricey compared to other Japanese spots in LA. Good attentive service. Really spacious and clean space. Probably good for groups. Very extensive menu. From ramen to udon, sushi, appetizers, and lots of bento plates. We got the beef udon (added spice and it was so good), the gyozas, the saba plate and the pork katsu plate.

Yelp
This place truly is the essence of Japanese home style comfort foods. I've been to their original place in Little Tokyo before and finally got to check out their new location in DTLA. Definitely missed them being in Little Tokyo. Perk about the new place, it's much larger. I wanted to try something different. I had the hayashi rice with fried egg added and it was excellent. Reminded me of the last dish/last episode shown on the Netflix show Samurai Gourmet. My daughter ordered. My daughter ordered the nabeyaki udon and she loved it. We also ordered the gyoza, steamed spinach and potato salad. Everything tasted great! I would've preferred the gyoza to be a little more crispier but they were tasty altogether. Service is excellent. We got there right at 11am when they opened and for seated right away. There is street parking and a parking right next to the restaurant so parking was a breeze. Beautiful and comfortable place. Bathrooms are downstairs and we were so surprised...it was massive! Feels like this venue may have been a former club. Definitely head downstairs to check out one of their original booths and menus. There is also a private dining room available to rent. I look forward to coming back soon. Great value and tasty Japanese comfort foods with a ton of selections.

Yelp
Pros: Food from the adjacent restaurant is amazing and the service/bar staff are very engaging and helpful. Cons: Cocktails are very A-forward in taste. They taste like having the base /alc straight or neat and less like mixology art has gone into it. I'm not a wine or hard drink taste connoisseur, so I personally did not enjoy the flavors and found little depth in their drinks. I also dislike the area of LA they're located in. Feels extremely unsafe going in for a late evening date or nightcap. Parking sucks here, expensive lots and street parking is a nightmare.
google avatar

Yelp
Came by for some comfort food after a concert on Broadway. Great that Suehiro is open late for people that need a place to grab some food before heading home. We got the pork takoyaki, curry katsu and house special (comes with eggplant, bell pepper and choice of meat). All of the items we ordered were delicious. My favorite would be the curry katsu. My friend isn't a big fan of curry but she enjoyed this one. They provided a great service and I like that they have a bowl of candy out for customers. Great food and dining experience. If we're ever in town again, we will definitely come back. Parking is just street parking, not sure how hard it would be during the day but at night it was pretty easy. I loved the ambiance inside and how nice the restaurant is. Staff was all incredibly friendly. Kenji is the owner and is extremely hands on, will buss and serve tables alongside the staff. Super down to early gentleman and easy to talk to. His family opened the restaurant and he has a portrait of his mom and aunt on the wall that is very nice.

Yelp
Extensive list of Japanese comfort food. Lots of items you don't typically see menus as well. Nice chill spot with tables and bar seating. Great service. Def recommend

Yelp
I was shocked to hear about its relocation from Little Tokyo to downtown, but now at least it can spread its cuisine to a location closer to office buildings. I came here with a party of 5 during lunchtime Thursday, around noon and it wasn't as busy as expected. The servers were extremely attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. I ordered the Katsu Curry (see menu for pricing) and the wait was about 15-20 minutes for everyone in our party to get their food. I probably had high expectations coming in, thinking--if it originated in Little Tokyo--it must be authentic and of high quality. It tasted average and a bit bland. Not bad, but nothing extraordinary, and felt like something I could have grabbed from a Mitsuwa (Japanese grocery store) fridge section or cafeteria food court. Summary: - COSTS. A bit pricey for the serving size. - CUSTOMER SERVICE. Excellent. Maybe because there weren't many customers at the time of my visit, but they always got us what we needed and refilled our water before we even asked. - FOOD QUALITY. Average. Everything was fresh and steaming hot, but the taste just lacked something. (It could just be me expecting an explosion of flavor when I eat curry, but there are better katsu places out there, or they specialize in other food dishes and not particularly what I ordered.)

Yelp
These places have my heart. Homey comfort food? Check. Mom & Pop loved by the community? Check. Lovely conversation with staff? Check! We got wasabi soy fries, chicken karaage, beef udon, and hayashi rice. Everything was DELICIOUS! I especially appreciate how fresh the karaage was, seemed hand battered and were generous cuts of chicken. I want to try every single thing on the menu when we come in next. Oh and the Asahi was so refreshing. I was really glad to hear that Suehiro landed this new location. A shame that their old location pushed them out, even though the community clearly favors local businesses to stay. This new location is charming and chic all at the same time. The main dining area will be expanded soon once they hire more staff, is what the owner mentioned to us. Very excited for this next chapter for you! Thank you for having us and we'll see y'all soon.

Yelp
We came for an early dinner on Sunday at 4 and were seated at the counter. A party of about 20 people were seated at a long table in the middle of the restaurant. It looked like a family reunion or celebration. The staff were friendly and attentive as always. My daughter ordered her favorite curry udon with tofu, and I ordered the Tenzaru soba . Everything was fresh, the noodles cooked perfectly, the tempura crisp. Considering how packed it was, we were able to enjoy our meal only 20 minutes after ordering (a lucky thing because we had a show starting at 5!). Plan to park in one of the lots nearby as street/metered parking is very limited.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little Japanese restaurant. The udon was pretty good. The price was also very good.

Yelp
We arrived here with our reservation on hand and got seated not too long after. Looking at the menu, they had a large range of dishes but when we asked for certain things on the menu, we were told that it was unavailable. We ended up grabbing a few different sides which turned out to be ok, along with spicy ramen that was also ok. Each dish came out slow and we noticed that place was short staffed. Our servers were nice and did the best they could with the large volume of people coming in. The interior is nice and has a renovated restroom area underground.

Nicole M.

Yelp
food came more than 30 mins after we order. the portion of the salmon is really small. curry came cold. miso soup isn't hot either. service was okay. won't come back here. bathroom is really creepy

Yelp
Came here when I found out they relocated. I'm really happy they were able to stay in business because I couldn't stop thinking about the last time I visited. The owner is extremely sweet and it's clear he loves what he does. There were plenty of street parking when I went around 6pm. Food: Miso soup 6/5: the best miso soup I've ever had. The owner has a lot of pride in their miso and you can really taste why. Hayashi rice 6/5: I was looking forward to the omurice but the omurice chef wasn't available when I went. The owner recommend instead the Hayashi since it's one of his favorite. IT WAS THE BEST THING IVE EVER HAD. A must try if you come. Katsu Curry 5/5: the rice is perfectly cooked and the katsu was juicy. The interior is cozy and they kept up with the booth seating, it's quite private if you're looking for a more intimate spot. There's a restroom located downstairs and it's gorgeous, I can't really explain it but you must check it out.

Yelp
Went to the old DTLA location in Little Tokyo and heard it was shut down (story for another time). Went back to this place today, and the food and drinks were as good as the first time I've had it. Had the soba noodles plus some items from the Happy Hour menu and it was all affordable and prepared well. Was served by very friendly and attentive staff, who thankfully let me know of the Happy Hour menu before I had ordered outside of that window. While I am a bit nostalgic of the old location, the new one is modern and pleasant. However, a nice little detail hidden near the restrooms downstairs; they kept a old booth and the old from the original location, preserving the history of the restaurant. Overall, a fantastic location, and I will make sure to return every time I come to LA.

Yelp
Very nice staff and spacious. But I ordered the fried eggplant and thought the sauce was too salty. My stomach did not feel great afterwards.

Yelp
This place rocks!!! My favorite Japanese comfort food in DTLA! Family owned and every time we dine there it feels like I'm eating at my grandmas house. The owner is so nice and the food is really good. They have the best miso soup I've ever had!!! This is a must try if you're in DTLA.

Yelp
Showed up with 3 other friends at 2am after a night of dancing and it was open which was nice! Service was excellent from the beginning. Food was so delicious! And On point and definitely Authentic flavors. So many options on the menu. Waiter was very nice and friendly. When we arrived there were a couple other people eating aside from the time it was. Street parking wasn't tough to find. People were hanging around near by but were very friendly. Definitely come by .. the food is amazing!

Yelp
The food here is good and the presentation was nice too! The yaki soba here was very flavorful and the taste was just right! I also tried some ramen from my friend's and it was also pretty good! Definitely worth trying if you want some Japanese food.

Yelp
I guess there is a somewhat tragic story of this business being forced out of Little Tokyo. I admittedly dont know all of the details. But I am here to say I went to their new location in the historic core downtown and they are thriving. The place was full during lunch hour. So maybe it will be a happy ending for them! Had the lunch special tempura. Delicious and the servers are awesome.

Yelp
Ambiance: Welcoming, young, and modern feel. They stay open late so this spot is perfect for late night dinner. Music choice is mostly 70s-80s rock. Seating: Reservation not a must. We were a table of 3 seated immediately. Seating available in booths, tables, and bar for small- medium parties. No outdoor seating. Food: Delicious, authentic-tasting ramen! My only complaint is that serving size is on the smaller side. Service: They offer their recommendations when asked. Very attentive to each table's needs. Fast and friendly service. Overall- great spot for friends and couples. Would come back!

Yelp
tldr: Biggest draw is it's open late and serves reasonably priced comfort Japanese food. That's it. It's on the nicer side of the ambiance scale but hard to tell what the peak environment is like at 1am. Service felt authentic. Food $16 Chicken Curry Rice - Filling, comfortable, and reasonably priced for DTLA $20 Katsu Curry - Premium price to have katsu, though I don't think it's quite worth the upgrade. $10 Soboro Don - Chicken over rice. Pretty affordable though not as enjoyable as curry rice. Would I Return Rating If I didn't want late night street tacos or fast food, Suehiro serves restaurant cooked meals with some affordable options at decent quality. I enjoyed the late night meal here. But I wouldn't come here if I had all the Japanese options of business hours.

Yelp
Suehiro Little Tokyo was a regular spot for me when I worked in the area. I am glad they are still around though it is absolutely not the same, most especially the prices. Long gone are the days of $4.20 lunch specials. Sigh... Service is friendly as ever. The atmosphere is much more sleek as the pictures show. I will pop in now and again but it is not a place to have a cheap meal anymore. Anyway, it is still a worthwhile place to stop by for a good ol' fashioned Japanese meal.

Yelp
I came here with my family last night before a show at the Ahmanson. We made a reservation since we were a party of five. The staff was really welcoming and overall were great throughout the night. They are currently running a limited menu but there was still a variety of dishes to choose from. Everything was delicious and can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Great service and friendly, casual vibe. We sit outside with our dog and the waiter is attentive. The food portion is on the smaller side considered the price. But overall great taste!
