Sugar Hill Creamery! A classic place to stop by in Upper Manhattan. I do 100% recommend to stop by and enjoy the ice cream this summer. I have not been disappointed by their flavors! I enjoy the seasonal flavors (and creative names.) Overall a good place to have your sweet cravings satisfied 😌. The employees have treated me well before and they are open to me tasting the ice cream before purchasing! Appreciate the patience of the staff. Photos from my visit on May 17th, 2024

This place has absolutely ruined all other ice cream shops for me, nothing compares to sugar hill creamery’s ice cream!!! I love to get scoop of blueberry cheesecake and peach cobbler it’s an amazing combo. My roommate also swears they have the best birthday cake ice cream she’s ever had. It is a seasonal flavor which stinks but if they have it snatch it up!

Google
Exceptional ice cream with a unique set of flavors with various add-ons like Ben and Jerry's and a few plain one (total 12 rotating flavors, 1/2 vegan). They have decent portions and prices ($9.5 for 3 scoops) and allow sampling. Definitely recommend. My favorites were the cafe touba (Senegalese coffee with Selim peppers which adds a kick that pairs wonderfully with the sweetness), Green carts (Strawberry and basil with lemon curds, very good) and the chairperson of the board (blueberry cheesecake). They also do malted shakes (and a vegan shake) and some iced teas. They have some indoor seating and restroom.

It was our first time here, and we all loved this neighborhood gem. Not the place if you only like traditional flavors. I was hesitant as well, but after a little tasting, my doubts were put to rest, and I was in ice cream heaven. I see lots of ice cream in our future from this place.

Google
I have no idea why I never heard of Sugar Hill Creamery before... I fell in love with this place right away!!! We were greeted and served by Melanie. She's a whole vibe!!! So friendly, patient and welcoming... she recommended that we tried some flavors based on what we like and we went out of our boxes and ended up trying new things because of her. I got my usual and favorite flavor, “cookies” icecream, just that theirs is a little different than usual. It's called "Hello New World" and it's actually cookies and caramel flavor. It was delicious, exactly what I expected. The one that blew my mind and made me go out of my comfort zone was Melanie's favorite combination with Cookies, the one and only "Chairperson of the Board", which is Blueberry cheesecake flavor. Wowwwww!!!!!!! I am NOT a fan of blueberries, I can have them in a shake or mixed with something else but I would NEVER pick blueberry flavor over any other, it will always be my last choice. But let me tell you, this wasn't the case!!! Their blueberry cheesecake is soooo good!!!! I ended up wishing I had gotten two scoops of it instead of just one!!! It's sweet but not overwhelming, my portion had lotssss of grahams and you can taste the cheesecake flavor!!!!! My boyfriend also got out of his comfort zone getting the "Tuma Buna", which is Ethiopian coffee, ginger, turmeric and honey flavor. It tasted only like coffee and cream and condensed milk, there wasn't an overpowering flavor of ginger or turmeric and he loved it for that same reason. We had never had coffee flavored icecream before, we would never get it because it’s just not our thing but their Tuma Buna is just something else!!!!!!!!!!!! I visited the shop on Thursday night and came back Today (Sunday) and Melanie remembered my face right away, even remembered the flavors I had tried and let me know there were new flavors today. Loved the fact that she really paid attention to me the first time I visited, that even remembered every little detail Today, 3 days later and like 100 clients later! Definitely my new favorite creamery!! Can't wait to be back again!!!!!!

It’s really a crime that this establishment is so close to my apartment. Amazing homemade ice cream. Love the unique flavors!

Google
This is only my second time getting ice cream here and I live right across the street. I wish I’d come here more. I brought my mom here last summer and she loved it and I brought my husband and my puppy here today and we had a lovely time. The young ladies behind the counter asked if I wanted pup for Nelly, which yes she did and my husband absolutely loved his milkshake and I had some great ice cream.

Google
The flagship original offers innovative ice cream by friendly, informed staff and a rotating menu year-round (seen here one evening in December). A trusty option for after-dinner dessert or venturesome victualing, Sugar Hill Creamery is one independently-owned business where life is sweet.

Yelp
We decided to try a local spot for ice cream. Very cute place and friendly staff. Some unique flavors were offered but I was hoping for some black raspberry. Overall good experience, but limited options.

Giselle G.

Yelp
I love this ice cream place; the staff is always friendly and the flavors are always delicious. They also give my dog a pup cup which he loves. I love coming here and recommend it.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for creative ice cream flavors, so I was very happy to visit Sugar Hill Creamery's Hamilton Heights outpost. I had previously visited their location in DUMBO but I hope to see them expand to a few more locations downtown so I don't have to trek so far uptown for their delicious ice cream. My friends and I stopped by on a Sunday evening to see what they had in stock. I ordered a split cup ($6) of their Tuma Buna and Green Carts. According to the staff member, a split can hold two flavors but is smaller in size than a double. The Tuma Buna is a coffee ice cream that is flavored with turmeric and ginger candy. While I couldn't make out any bits of the candy, it was a really nuanced coffee ice cream that was sweet and spiced. The Green Carts is a strawberry-basil ice cream that contains a lovely ripple of housemade lemon curd running through it and is speckled with crushed up Nilla wafers. Refreshing and peak summer flavors. There are three tables towards the back but otherwise this shop space is rather narrow so I would recommend a grab and go situation. I am sad they only allow for two taste tests as the DUMBO location was pretty lenient when I visited but I guess I'll have to return soon to try their jalapeno-corn and rhubarb-lemon verbena flavors!

Xenia M.

Yelp
Really satisfied with the blueberry cheesecake ice cream cake I ordered from Sugar Hill Creamery! It was a hit at my friend's birthday dinner. The cake itself is small for the price you pay, but tastes great!

Angela K.

Yelp
Great ice cream spot with a variety of flavors! Not a lot of seating but cozy interior and friendly servers who let you try different flavors. The peach cobbler doesn't disappoint and it's always fun to try some of the speciality and seasonal flavors. Would recommend!

Lewis P.

Yelp
I've been going to this establishment for years intermittently as I'm dairy intolerant. But I couldn't help myself when I saw the sundae ingredients: Caramel, Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream, Brownie Chunks and pecans. My mouth loved the taste but my stomach was not so happy. It was worth it as the ice cream was fresh Vanilla Bean and Coquito!

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Wow I've heard great things about this place and finally gave it a try. The interior is very cute and cozy. They don't have a wide variety of flavors but they do have a unique selection- some I've never heard of before. They also do free samples which a lot of places stopped due to covid so thank you. I got the blueberry cheesecake and peach cobbler. To say the least, it was delicious. I will be back to try every flavor lol

Wildary C.

Yelp
Sugar Hill Creamery is definitely on my top 5 ice cream places. Their service is above and beyond, they always explain their new flavors, as they change every season... provide samples as required/desired and also provide suggestions based on your likes and their expertise. Love it, love their vibes and the ambiance is very calming, relaxing and exciting. Prices are moderate, and definitely worth it!!!

Harsh C.

Yelp
Very good ice cream shop with unique options. It is just located in a shady area, but it's worth trying!

Marissa M.

Yelp
I only tried this one and knew it was immediately what I wanted. It's delicious. It was a great place after eating at Bird in Hand. It's clean and friendly.

Shriya S.

Yelp
Ordered Sugar Hill Creamery during a study break and came across their fall flavors. I ordered the fall special that allows you to try two limited edition options. The quality of the ice cream is definitely there because it was creamy and not too cold, but I felt that the two limited edition flavors tasted similar and were really strong with butterscotch. The butterscotch definitely overpowered most of the flavor, which was a bummer, but I really liked the graham crackers they included. You're able to add toppings and offer other cookies to add too. When I come back, I would try one of their standard flavors to make sure I like the ice cream, but if you're in the area I would definitely recommend!

Dallas A.

Yelp
Absolutely delectable ice cream here at Sugar Hill Creamery. This business carries about a dozen flavors (some of which rotate by season), and I loved that their flavors were unique, but not crazy or gross. For instance, a couple of the fall flavors include an apple cider with caramel flavor and a sweet potato, cookies-and-cream flavor with graham cracker pecan pie crust. I got the Harlem Sweeties flavor--a salted caramel base with brownies and butterscotch chips mixed in, and was blown away by how yummy it was. My friend's blueberry cheesecake was also really delicious. I'll definitely be back again!

Vanessa A.

Yelp
I love their flavor offerings. Unfortunately I had to go dairy free so my only option was dark chocolate. Still very good!!

Rafael V.

Yelp
I stopped by on a Tuesday night and was very impressed with the flavors and the creativity. I tried peach cobbler and it was delicious. The staff was super friendly. I'll definitely come back again.

Neha G.

Yelp
Since they're in the 'sugar hill' area I had to try it! It's a small place, but offers a few seats by the door and a few more in the back with tables. Also has a restroom. The inside has a modern feel. Flavors were kinda limited (compared to the many unique flavors you see in a soho/downtown spot), but it was nice to see two vegan options (though one was basic chocolate). All other dairy options have eggs in them. Some of the options are cheesecake, chocolate with a mix of walnuts, turtles, brownies, a lavendar flavor, and a few others that were not that exciting. Looking for something egg free, I was left with two options. The vegan soursop or the basic chocolate. Soursop was my choice. Its a sweeter pina colada like flavor. Meh...so-so with the flavor. Overall, pretty basic ice cream flavors and taste. Not something unique or I'd seek out. It is $4.50 for 1 scoop in a basic cone or cup, $50 for toppings ($1 if you add nuts). The staff was nice and allowed me to sample a few flavors before settling on one.

Holly M.

Yelp
I've never actually been here, but we order delivery from them sometimes twice a week Their ice cream is SO good, creamy and delicious, and I'm obsessed with their peppermint bark! Wide variety of toppings, and all around just REALLY GOOD.

Samah I.

Yelp
Service here is superb and the store itself is clean and welcoming. There's not a lot of seating, but you'll need a walk after the sheer size of the sundae (if that's what you order) so no biggie if you have to take it to go. The thing about brownie sundaes is that the brownies tend to be dry, brittle, and stale, but that was not the case here. These brownies were dense, moist, and decadent and there was no skimping on the amount put into the sundae. The ice cream flavors rotate seasonally which is a lot of fun so you'll always be in for a treat. The selection is definitely special and really creative as opposed to the standard flavors of vanilla, chocolate, etc that dare I say are boring. I was pleasantly surprised by their hot chocolate which had the most delicious toasted marshmallow atop (which is made of egg whites so no gelatin for vegetarians and other dietarily restricted folks). The drink itself was definitely darker cocoa (with a touch of bitterness) as opposed to a really sugary milk chocolate which I really appreciated as it was balanced well by the marshmallow.

Yelp
I have been coming to Sugar Hill Creamery for 4 years. I love little ice cream shoppes. The ice cream is soft and creamy. They have fun names for all the flavors. They also have unique flavors. Flavors I wouldn't even think to put together but they work. My favorite at the moment is the "Hello New World" and my all time favorite will always be peppermint bark. It's a must try ice cream shoppe.

Iris F.

Yelp
Ice cream here is delicious and the flavors are v unique! I got the split single scoop so I could have two flavors, which was $5.75. I got the egyptian coffee and vegan dark chocolate, both of which were amazing. I don't normally like vegan ice cream but this was truly fire and you can't tell it's vegan at all. They allow samples!

Giacomo C.

Yelp
If you're looking for yummy decadent ice cream in upper Harlem, look no further. This spin-off location has it all! Interesting combos of flavors, welcoming staff and a few sits in the back.

Janel S.

Yelp
Popped by after having an early dinner with friends. The space is cute, the staff is friendly. The ice cream is good! I had an affogato, one friend had an ice cream cookie sandwich, the other had a ginger beer float! My vanilla ice cream was ready good, the espresso was balanced perfectly. The float was tasty. They used a coconut ice cream w the ginger beer. The cookie for the ice cream sandwich was a little hard but it was still pretty tasty. They change up what they offer so it's going to be fun to swing by again and try something different!

Sandra S.

Yelp
I came here with my husband after walking to the riverside state park nearby. We were craving for ice cream and came here. We each got 2 scoops in a cup. I got the carnival (soursop with coconut) and the all inclusive (rice pudding, candied mango and maduro). My husband got the harlem sweeties (salted caramel crunch) and nunu's peach cobbler. All their ice creams were very unique with interesting ingredients. I tried all 4 of the ice creams and they were not overly sweet or creamy, and the flavors were light and not very potent. Out of the 4 flavors, the tastiest one was the nunu's peach cobbler and the least tasting one was the carnival (soursop coconut). The all inclusive (rice pudding, candied mango and maduro) was so interesting- i liked the rice pudding part but the candied mango was a bit overwhelming in taste. No indoor seating in the back area but outside there is 2 tables w/ 2 chairs each & a bench that can sit 2-3 ppl.

Randi G.

Yelp
Is there a word for that anger you feel when you *know* you should have done something, but didn't? I am so mad at all my missed opportunities to get a scoop from this place. I've known about this spot, but never dropped in...until last night. I love ice cream. Like really love ice cream. So when an ice cream spot not only makes a good base but knows how to mix flavors to create a memorable dessert, you've hit the jackpot. This place is the jackpot. Peach cobbler? Yes! A coffee ice cream with peanut brittle, spicy brownies and cardamom? Yes, yes! Rice pudding, mango and sweet plantains? Yes yes yes! And the fact that they rotate flavors with regularity will have me there as a regular!

Mike C.

Yelp
The Sugar Hill gang just opened their second location a little further uptown, now in Hamilton Heights. Similar in size to the first one and with lots of great flavors to choose from, it's definitely the best option in the area now for a great dessert and good way to support a local, family-owned business. Try the A$AP Rocky Road or the Jet Lag, both excellent flavors of their high quality ice cream.

Yodalis M.

Yelp
Thank the heavens this place is a 50 block walk for me, because otherwise I'd be there every other day. First off, I want to bottle up that sweet divine scent that hits you as soon as you walk in. Instant joy. Staff is so nice and generous- you can taste up to 4 flavors. They got the special stuff like lavender, lemon sorrel, and even a flavor featuring sweet plantain bits! You'll be super indecisive and want to get them all so beware. I was very happy with my ultimate choice - blueberry cheesecake (they have cute names for the ice cream but I can't remember). A single scoop is $4.50 which I thought was a fair price for the size and quality. Seating space for 6 ish outside. I waited so long to get here...can't wait to visit over and over again!

Matt T.

Yelp
The ice cream really hits the spot. When you get those ice cream cravings when it's 40 degrees or 80 degrees out, this is definitely the spot to fulfill those cravings! The inside is very clean and gives off a classic but modern ice cream parlor vibe. The ladies behind the counter were also very kind and patient with us while we ordered! The names of the ice cream flavors are also very fun, and I got the Harlem Sweeties which was amazing! My friend got the Tell It To The Block and Goddess Pomona which were so perfectly cinnamon-y and apple cider-y flavored, respectively. I have no doubt that their other flavors are equally as good. I definitely want to come back to try some more of their flavors whenever my next wintertime ice cream craving kicks in!

Samy H.

Yelp
Really good ice cream! Unique flavors! Would definitely come back. Don't think twice come try it!

Cheryl P.

Yelp
Wow this is probably one of my newest favorite neighborhood ice cream spots! My friend and I came here a few days ago on an especially hot day and it was the perfect treat! As someone with strict food allergies, I appreciated how allergens were clearly labeled. They had a ton of different and interesting flavors with all types of mixings and they also offer free samples, which is always a plus! I *highly* recommend their coffee flavor (which even has bits of honeycomb mixed in) or their passion fruit/guava sorbet, which was super refreshing. Their single scoop is quite a decent portion for $5.25. Seating in the back is a bit limited. Will definitely be back :)

Jacob M.

Yelp
Best ice cream and best service I love this place you should definitely go I need 54 characters I have nothing else to say

Dale W.

Yelp
Are you a fan of ice cream? Are you in the vicinity of Sugar Hill? Are you at the Sugar Hill Creamery right now? If you answered yes to the first two questions, then you should have answered yes to the last as well. Bar none, the Sugar Hill Creamery location is a must-visit for ice cream fans in the Sugar Hill area. This isn't Baskin Robbins: the ice cream offerings here are unique in terms of ingredients, but are also an absolute home-run in terms of taste. I usually take pictures of what I order to share on Yelp, but I ate my ice cream too quickly on this one. Whoops. Seriously though, go eat here. You won't be disappointed.

Jennie B.

Yelp
This might be my favorite ice cream shop in LA. So happy they opened one of the west side. Flavors we tried were unique and delicious. I just need to figure out how to lug pints of it back to my apartment. Tip: I believe a split scoop is an additional $1, I would just get a double scoop at that point.

Jonathan F.

Yelp
Honestly, I'm going to be short. Overpriced. Random names for traditional flavors. The worst thing is the lack of customer service from everyone behind the counter. I hate going to a place to order food and feeling like I'm an inconvenience. I asked for a pint of cookies and caramel, all I got was a finger pointing at a counter top freezer. When to pay ($11.98 for a pint!) using tap, all I got was an aggressive employee tapping at the side of the computer (where the tap reader was located). After my purchase, no thank you, no here is your receipt, no good evening, nada, just a nose blow as I walked out the door. The most disappointing is that the week old pint of pre-package ice cream was rock solid, taking away any desire I had for ice cream.

Wilton P.

Yelp
Sugar hill creamery is a gem. All of their flavors are artisanal and delicious. You will not be dissatisfied, I promise.

Shaq L.

Yelp
Amazing customer service is always amazing and the ice cream is so good I have never encountered a bad experience

Julisa H.

Yelp
Dope spot! Nice service! Great flavor choices! Came in here Friday night and was walked through the flavors and options I really enjoyed the staff and the ice cream is very good. The family business and the blueberry cheesecake was a hit with the me and my date..

Lila S.

Yelp
Really good ice cream but super slow service. Came here on a Friday night, there was only one gentleman taking orders ( he was really nice) and another girl that was fulfilling online orders. Super slow. It took over 40 minutes for me to even order and there was only 4 people ahead of me. Several groups of people waited in line too patiently and then left because it was taking too long. Management needs to hire more people to work here so that we can get our ice cream and go. Yes the ice cream is delicious but I will never come back here and wait like I did last Friday. Especially with only 4 people ahead of me. They have another location which is more well ran but this location is a disappointment.

Sarah R.

Yelp
We stan an ice cream place with flavors like "Sweet Socialism." I am not always into trendy ice cream flavors, but Sugar Hill Creamery does this so well, creating knockout, surprising flavors that echo the rich and powerful history of Harlem. My favorite is NuNu's Peach Cobbler, a rich and fruity dessert that I did not think could be improved upon until I had it in ice cream form. We also had this insane ramen flavor a few months ago-- a salty sweet combo with miso, pickled ginger, and citrusy yuzu swirl. It was a frozen dairy work of art. Masterful! The interior of the location is super cute and the staff was friendly and kind. The scoops are incredibly generous, particularly if you get a "split scoop" (1 scoop divided into two flavors)-- I was served a ginormous mountain of ice cream with a smile. Thank you Sugar Hill! I can't wait to come back!

Dan G.

Yelp
Creative flavor combinations and top-notch quality ingredients make for an outstanding ice cream treat.

C M.

Yelp
Good ice cream! However, the pints that are prepackaged are not the freshest. Next time I buy some I will ask for them to use the ice cream in the bigger containers.

Vanessa M.

Yelp
They have the most unique ice cream flavors I've ever seen! The staff is always friendly and happy to let you try as many flavors as you want, which will probably make your decision even harder! There's also a rewards program if you use the same card each time you visit! Absolutely obsessed with this place!

Roxanne C.

Yelp
The BEST vegan ice cream ive ever had!! Please dont hesitate to stop by and give them a try.

Bry O.

Yelp
This has become a neighborhood favorite!! The staff is always so kind and welcoming, and the flavors are fantastic. You can buy pints too which are perfect treats. Highly recommend the Chairperson of the Board (blueberry cheesecake) or the Tuma Buna (Ethiopian coffee, ginger, and turmeric) in the summer or their insanely good hot chocolate in the winter!

Imani D.

Yelp
Delicious! I had the peach cobbler and blueberry flavored in a waffle cone. The line was kind of long but is expected for a place that good!

Amanda T.

Yelp
another place with vegan ice-cream option uptown! To me, the flavors was too sweet for my taste. I wish the texture was a bit better. Asked for a few samples and the lady was accommodating. I like how they use actual spoons for tasting here, no plastic waste!

Seleny A.

Yelp
One of the best Ice creams in NY with an excellent service. You're even allowed to try the flavors.

Irene F.

Yelp
Loved the soursop, coffee, and strawberry/lemon curd flavors. Scoops are very generous.

Courtney H.

Yelp
I literally love this place, I only get the Malted Milk Shakes because I'm addicted and it's worth every penny !!!!!! Black owned is an amazing plus to this place, and I'm a faithful customer !

Laura J.

Yelp
I've already frequented the location in Harlem, now I had to try the second location. I was walking by and I saw that they have built the Second location pretty close to my home so of course I had to go in for my favorite flavor. The blueberry cheesecake! The crazy thing about this ice cream as I stated in a previous review, is that I hate blueberries and I hate cheesecake but this ice cream is so delicious I get it every single time go to the Harlem establishment. I'm happy to see expansion with this company and I'll be back

Dee V.

Yelp
Ordered an ice cream sandwich with toasted walnuts. The cookies were too hard to be edible and the walnuts were skinned whole pieces and raw ( not chopped or toasted). The quality was much less than expected especially for the price point. Would've been happier buying an ice cream from the supermarket.
