Sugarfish delivers high-quality sushi and sake in a chic, intimate setting where fresh, expertly crafted omakase meals shine, making it a local favorite.
"Sugarfish is located less than a tenth of a mile from the 81-year-old Palladium where sashimi, sushi, and hand rolls are on full display. If overwhelmed by the menu, simply order the Trust Me omakase where the chef picks a selection sure to dazzle before the show." - Mona Holmes
"We finally made it to the bottom three. Has this Hollywood outpost come in handy from time to time? Sure. Where else was I supposed to eat before seeing Cats in theaters back when the Arclight was still around? However, have I also waited over an hour for a pick-up order and gotten stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic here? Yes, and yes! Another tip: If you’re going to drink tea during your meal, get it hot. The hot tea comes in these gorgeous ceramic mugs, uses water from a special faucet, and, if your server really loves you, they’ll tie the tea bag string around the handle to keep it from slipping. The iced tea on the other hand, is pre-made at the beginning of the night and uses water from the kitchen sink." - kat hong
"You probably don’t need us to tell you what Sugarfish is at this point. This one is right on Sunset next to NeueHouse, and is no different from all the rest - great quality sushi for a not-outrageous price. It’s even more affordable at lunch, and the takeout situation is as convenient as it gets." - brant cox, arden shore
"Hokkai Don: $40 Inspired by the seafood-rich coasts of Hokkaido, the Hokkai Don at this new Silver Lake spot is filled with near-symmetrical rows of salmon, blue crab, and salmon roe. It’s a simple chirashi — way less extravagant than some of the other boxes on this list — but that doesn’t mean the fish quality is any less high. The crab meat is soft and slightly salty, hotate scallops are creamy and sprinkled in furikake, and for ikura lovers, you’ll get beyond a generous portion of the juicy, bright-orange salmon roe. It’s a straightforward, well-organized meal. If you’re a Wes Anderson completist or receive The Container Store gift cards on your birthday, this might be the chirashi for you." - kat hong
"LA is no stranger to sushi empires, but few have achieved the popularity (and accessibility) of Sugarfish. Plain and simple, this is the highest-quality sushi at the best price in town. There are several locations around LA these days, but don’t fear, the quality hasn’t dropped a bit. You can still get your nine-course Trust Me dinner for about $30 (it fluctuates between lunch and dinner) and walk away thrilled." - Brant Cox
