Sugarfish Opens a Sleek New Sushi Bungalow in Manhattan Beach | Eater LA

"Opened recently just steps from Manhattan Beach’s shoreline, this standalone 40-seat bungalow features a dark, Japanese-minimalist design by Marmol Radziner and continues Kazunori Nozawa’s straightforward sushi approach (he ran Sushi Nozawa from 1987–2012). The menu centers on set options: the reasonably priced “Trust Me Lite” starts with tuna sashimi with ponzu and includes a few nigiri and a hand roll (lunch and dinner prices differ); the heartier “Nozawa” adds ten pieces of nigiri and two hand rolls plus that sashimi starter; and the top-tier “Don’t Think, Just Eat” runs about $52. Daily specials rotate (examples include albacore belly, uni, and toro). The restaurant does not accept tips, instead adding a taxable 16% service fee, does not take reservations, serves most days from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Sundays noon–9 p.m.), and offers delivery via Postmates within a local radius. The operating group also runs Kazunori hand-roll spots and the newly Michelin-starred Nozawa Bar omakase counter in Beverly Hills." - Matthew Kang

Sugarfish Takes Its Affordable Omakase to Manhattan Beach | Eater LA

"A popular Los Angeles sushi restaurant that recently expanded to New York City is opening its first Southern California location outside central LA in Manhattan Beach, just steps from the ocean at 304 12th Street (the former 12th and Highland spot). The new outpost is expected to offer the same reasonably priced sushi omakase and nightly specials as the flagship; alcohol permits are already posted and, because the space was previously a restaurant, it is likely to open before the end of the year though no official timeline has been announced." - Matthew Kang

Google
Waited about 15 minutes - hostess wasn’t very friendly. They serve beer, wine and sake. The Sauvignon blanc was very crisp and refreshing Started with Edamame which was ok, yellow tail was very good & blue crab and dungarees roll was average. Best item was the sweet shrimp which was on their special menu. Service was very good. The tables however are very small so you hear everything your neighbor is saying plus it is very hard to get in and out of the table. And I am a fairly thin guy. Overall - we we were pleased

Google
Dined in for Omakase. I wish I took a photo of the sashimi… alas, I did not. The sashimi here is some of the best I’ve ever had - so fresh!!

Google
Sugarfish had it all! This is the best sushi I've ever had, asking with one of the best experiences ever. The service is top-notch. I went with coworkers who spoke very highly of it, and it did not disappoint. Everything I tasted was nearly perfect. Surprisingly, it was moderated priced for an excellent meal. I highly recommend Sugarfish, and I will be back often.

Google
This restaurant has become our favorite Sushi place ! We come here late night on Sundays to beat the lines (too bad they don't take reservations) . They are a very small restaurant with about 10-12 small tables set up in a cozy huddled up space. The Sushi they serve here is one of the best I have ever had. They have lot of preset menu experiences , I recommend trying the mid level that comes with Blue Fin tuna. The Sushi here is truly melt in the mouth soft ! I just wish they took reservations so that we could visit more often .

Google
I have always loved SUGARFISH, the Manhattan beach location is no exception. Sugarfish is a great date night or special occasion. The sushi is always fresh and the ingredients are high quality. Don't come hungry, but it's more about the experience and less about feeling full at the end of the meal. I would recommend Sugarfish and will definitely be back.

Google
Hands down the best Omasake I've ever had with their "Don't ask, just eat" menu. I drove over an hr to eat here and I'd do it again.

Google
Sushi at Sugarfish is spectacular! Seriously though, the sushi was unbelievable. The service was great and the price was very reasonable. We ordered the Don't Think. Just Eat. Trust Me. And I would absolutely order it again. The warm rice is everything! The whole experience was delightful and I highly recommend Sugarfish! 👍👍👍

Google
their signature is the Trust Me menu - essentially mini omakase at the price point you prefer. Like all omakases, always sit at the counter if given the option. The fish here is really great quality and fresh, although the slices on the sashimi and nigiri are somewhat on the small side. The service can also be pretty slow when the restaurant is busy. It seems there isn't more than 2 or 3 primary chefs from what I could see through the window into the kitchen. The Ala carte options also seem to be reasonably priced, although the only thing I ordered aside from the Nozawa Trust Me is the amaebi nigiri. All items served in the Nozawa Trust Me are in my pictures. Overall a very decent choice for sushi, especially considering their no-tipping policy makes it easy to calculate what your final bill will be.

Yelp
Yeah it's safe to say I'm obsessed. This place came highly recommended by so many Californians that I made it my very first stop in town as soon as I arrived. Dare I say it was part of the reason I booked my flight in the first place? I was greeted by the amazing Eric and was given the run down of the "Trust Me" -- absolutely recommend getting this your first time to try out the best of what Sugarfish offers. I was left speechless with the quality of the fish, the texture of the rice, and the uniqueness of the sauces. Eric made my first experience at this legendary spot super memorable. I enjoyed sitting at the bar THREE times in one week, as I literally couldn't have enough. I even checked out their sister restaurant Kazunori and UOVO while in town. Highly impressed by the service, food and atmosphere at all of their establishments. Thank you also to Vilma who was a fantastic server as well. Super personable and had great recommendations. She put me on to Albacore Belly -- truly fantastic. Try it if you go!!

Yelp
Hands down love the sushi here! Especially there to go boxes, which are truly a work of craft. They make ordering sushi really smooth and easy always go with the preset menu. The ambulance is always there. I don't know how they do it but the every time they bring the next round of sushi or roll at the perfect time. I would highly recommend to come.

Yelp
One try and now it's a must go place anytime I'm in LA. Fresh fish and just a touch sweet rice makes this place superb. Very cozy, but awesome ambiance in the restaurant.

Yelp
We came in on a Friday afternoon and had been wanting to try this place based on its reputation and raving reviews. When we arrived, we were fortunate enough to not have to wait and were able to be seated right away. It was around 4pm on a Friday so it's before the dinner rush. All but one of us ordered the Nozawa Trust Me. Honestly, for the amount of fish you get, this wasn't a bad deal! We ordered a bottle of wine for the table as well. Each dish that we received was really tasty and that flavors were great. My biggest gripe with this restaurant though is the sushi rice... the menu says that it should be "loosely packed so that it melts in your mouth" however, the way they pack the rice is way too loose. You can't even pick up the nigiri without losing some rice, or most of the rice, on the way to your mouth haha if it was only one or two pieces that were like that, I wouldn't have minded as much, but every single piece though was just an annoyance so that's why I'm docking my rating a star. Maybe we caught them on an off day but since it's our first and only time being here, it's hard to tell if this is their norm. I'd be willing to give them another shot!

Yelp
Finally made my way to this location! I had previously only been to the DTLA location, so I was excited that they opened a Sugarfish in Manhattan Beach. The outer facade is a bit unassuming, but there is a small sign at the top of the restaurant. It's a bit noisy inside. There aren't any windows inside, and it's kind of a small space, so the sound really carries. Just an FYI in case you're looking for a quieter dining experience. We ordered the classic "Trust Me." It comes with edamame, tuna sashimi, albacore sushi (2pc), salmon sushi (2pc), toro hand roll, Japanese yellowtail sushi (1pc), hirame sushi (1pc), and a blue and dungeness crab hand roll. The tuna sashimi comes in the BEST ponzu sauce, super refreshing! I also always look forward to ending with the crab hand roll. So good!

Yelp
this is like a good take out spot if you want mediocre sushi tbh I really don't get the hype of why sugar fish got so famous in SoCal because it has chain quality sushi. Subpar and I would never choose it for date night again. I've had much better quality fish. Itll do the job if you don't know what good quality sushi is. It kind of reminds me of a westernized restaurant trying to act like they are authentic and know how do sushi right when it's quite the opposite lol Also don't get why they don't take reservations and have hour long wait for walk in. Really not that good or worth it to wait. Just one of those things people over hyped and now everyone wants to try but I promise you'll live without trying it in your lifetime lol

Yelp
First time to the MB location as I have been a number of times to their Santa Monica restaurant. Arrived on the early side where James was my server and after small talk chose the Nozawa Trust Me fixed price menu which I have ordered before. And Trust Me you won't be wrong when you order this!
google avatar

Yelp
A truly unique sushi experience (unless you have it every week). :D I can't explain it but just look at the pictures. The fish just melts in your mouth literally. No chewing required. The rice is warm and delicious and everything the chefs prepare has the perfect amount of seasoning. Yes parking is horrendous. But welcome to Manhattan beach. There's a lot behind the restaurant and there is street parking. If you love quality sushi this is a must try. Just do yourself a favor and come. And if you don't want the full experience just grab your food to go.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try Sugarfish for so long and I'm so glad I finally did! Everything was so fresh and yummy. We were originally going to get the box and eat it on the beach, but I'm glad we decided to dine in because each dish was freshly made after every course and served right away as opposed to having them all sit in a box for 20-30 minutes while you eat. The fish was soft, clean and not fishy. The tuna sashimi and albacore were my favorite! I got the trust me set but it wasn't very filling. Next time, I'll get the Nozawa trust me set. The servers were very attentive and polite. The restaurant was clean and modern. A small touch I liked was that they had different types of soaps in the restroom. Parking here on the weekends in the summer is tough. There are metered parkings lots & metered street parking close by. It may take some time to find parking.

Yelp
I LOVE Sugarfish, every time I come, it is the best experience. I have been to Michelin sushi restaurants and I feel as if Sugarfish always measures up even though it is half of the price. My boyfriend and I both got the Don't Think. Just Eat. Trust Me. Each course of nigiri was sooo good, and the chef's sauces complement each piece of fish perfectly. My favorite one was definitely the tuna belly. It is so fatty and marbled, so umami as well. Even though it doesn't sound like a lot of food, my boyfriend and I were both full and satisfied after the meal! We would 100% come back again!

Yelp
I had not eaten at this location prior and the only thing that sucks and yet is also cool about it is in fact the location. The parking situation has always sucked for as long as I can remember but once you are in you are golden. I mean, you go eat, you can go shop after, and then you can take a walk on the beach or a swim. The hubby and I came here for linner and e-ver-y-thing was perfect - service, food, pricing. And I didn't know this before, but we didn't have to tip because the staff earns a living wage. I had the full-on Trust Me for $30 plus an order of green iced tea. Everything tasted fresh and delicious and I had never had yuzu ponzu before. That was special for me. The hubby had never been to MB before and said he loved it better than Laguna so I think it's safe to say that we will be back on our next trip to SoCal. Edamame Tuna Sashimi - ponzu and chives Albacore Sushi - ponzu and chives, 2-pc Salmon Sushi - toasted sesame, 2-pc Toro Hand Roll Japanese Yellowtail* Sushi - lemon, 1-pc Hirame* Sushi - yuzu ponzu, 1-pc Blue & Dungeness Crab Hand Roll

Yelp
Sugarfish has been on my radar since I first started frequenting LA, but it was only recently that I convinced my boyfriend to come with to try it. I got the Trust Me Lite and a Japanese yellowtail cut roll. My favorite course in the Trust Me Lite was the toro hand roll. I'd definitely recommend hand rolls over cut rolls here, but the yellowtail cut roll was tasty nonetheless. The ambiance at this location is dark themed in a cozy way, so it would be nice for a romantic date. Our server was really nice with explaining the menu to us first-timers and courses came out at a steady pace. We didn't have to wait for a table but there was a line of people waiting by the time we were eating. My boyfriend actually visited another Sugarfish location the very next day and I was unable to join, much to my dismay. I can't wait to be in the area to stop by again!

Yelp
I love Sugarfish, but my experience at this location was quite disappointing. I came in on a Saturday to pick up two "The Nozawa Trust Me" boxes for takeout. I was told the order would be ready in 15-20 minutes, but I ended up waiting over 30 minutes without hearing my name called. It was difficult to get an update since no staff member was managing the front area for takeout. When I was finally able to get a staff member's attention, she seemed confused, then told me my order had been ready and just sitting there. I was standing in front of the takeout counter, but no one informed me that my order was ready. On top of that, a 16% service charge was automatically added to my bill which, given the lack of service, felt unreasonable. Despite that, the presentation and quality of their sushi stays consistent.

Michael M.

Yelp
All good. Choice of sushi flights is really good. Sake ok all cold do not have hot. Sushi very fresh and scenery is unbeatable.

Yelp
Everything about this place is amazing... I recently came here to celebrate a few belated birthdays of my long-time high school best friends, and it was an unforgettable experience to say the least. The simplicity and elegance of Sugarfish's sushi made our reunion feel extra special, turning our meal into a true celebration. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and perfect for a nostalgic get-together. I tried one of their "Trust Me" menu pieces and it did not disappoint. There were a lot of high-quality sushis that the food melted in your mouth. This was a place of no distractions, just amazing food and cherished company. The experience was exactly what a birthday celebration with lifelong friends should be.

Yelp
LOVEEEEEEE sugar fish. Love is not even enough to describe it but I do!! Whenever my boss puts out sugarfish as a suggestion to eat there for a team lunch I'm pretty sure that everyone is down!! This location is a little tricky since it's literally right in the heart of Manhattan Beach aka parking is a hit or miss. But they will seat you once everyone in your party is there otherwise you'll just have to wait... The inside of this spot is small but it's cozy and enough to fill the amount of people who dine there accordingly. I have yet to be there while people were waiting to be seated unless they were waiting for their remaining party. What I usually order is: The Nozawa Trust Me ($39.00) Which comes with the following: Edamame Tuna Sashimi - ponzu and chives Albacore Sushi - ponzu and chives, 2-pc Salmon Sushi - toasted sesame, 2-pc Toro Hand Roll Japanese Yellowtail* Sushi - lemon, 2-pc Chutoro Sushi , 2-pc Hirame* Sushi - yuzu ponzu, 1-pc New Zealand Sea Bream* Sushi - citrus salt, 1-pc Blue & Dungeness Crab Hand Roll They're all curated for a different taste palette and enjoyed every single tasting of each duo piece and hand roll. Service is always outstanding and they are there to make everything right for you, and we definitely felt that everytime we went!

Yelp
A casual place with good sushi at an affordable price! I was impressed with the quality of sushi at this place. The service could be a little better and the plating could be a little tidier, but the quality is there. The pieces were generously large. I actually wished for less rice, and even would've been OK with slightly smaller cuts of the fish. It's a very straight-forward set of nigiri pieces at this place. No fancy combination of flavors; just good traditional sushi. One thing the pieces were missing were the light brushing of soy glaze other sushi places usually do.
google avatar

Priscila F.

Yelp
Sugarfish continues to be super consistent and the food deliciously tasty. The service at this location was great, everyone was super helpful and friendly. On the nozawa trust me, my favorite is the salmon, seabream and hirame, unfortunately they were out so they substitute it for a scallop. Another item to try is the bluefin otoro. The parking is not so great, parking is extremely limited but there is a parking structure east where we ended up parking. At 6pm the wait for two was about 40 minutes, note: your entire party must be present to be seated. Lastly, the dining room was very cold, I had to keep my jacket on the entire time.
google avatar

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Sugarfish in MB is my new go-to sushi place in town! We came here on a chilly Sunday night for our date night. I thought since it's Sunday night, it would be easier to get seated right away, but I was wrong. So definitely factor in a 30-minute wait time if you are going to use the underground public parking a block away. The dinner typically takes about an hour, so two hours for the meter should be sufficient. The customer service is superb! When I asked for hot water, the server also brought me a glass of water with no ice--HOW CONSIDERATE! The water was not EXTREMELY hot, just hot enough to warm my tummy before my sushi feast! I got the Nozawa Trust Me, and my partner got Don't Think, Just Eat. I think that's a very popular combination for a party of two since Don't Think, Just Eat serves the same amount of sushi, just different kinds and is more expensive, so we got to share some of the pieces since the same kind comes in two pieces. However, after eating both dishes, I have to say Don't Think, Just Eat is not as good as my Nozawa Trust Me. I'd rather save that $10+ difference to order something else on the limited availability menu; sea urchin looked like a great alternative if you want to take your sushi experience to the next level. One thing I dislike, and the reason for one deducted star, is the fact that the restaurant is EXTREMELY dark. I mean, I get the ambiance to be a bit dark and romantic, but honestly, if I have to use a flashlight to see what's on the menu, that's a bit too dark. Also, the light changes from dark to DARKER periodically. Not sure why, but the table next to us joked that the restaurant is trying to save money on electricity. Exactly what I was thinking, except they said it for me. Overall, Sugarfish was not as expensive as I thought; our meal together was $140 after tax and tips. Oh, by the way, a 15% gratuity is already included in the bill, so you don't need to pay extra unless you feel the need to. One last thing - if you want a free Trust Me meal on your birthday, make sure you fill out the survey card at the end when they hand you the bill. I came here AFTER my birthday... so hopefully I get to have a free meal next year!

Yelp
Consistent quality as usual. Rice was perfectly blended with rice vinegar and was at the right temperature. Yellow tail was delicious as was the blue crab hand roll.
google avatar

Yelp
Myself and a party of 4 ordered the Don't Think Just Eat and we all love Sashimi and did not regret this at all. By far the best fish in the South Bay and excellent ambiance inside. You must go early or expect to wait a long time. One time we waited an hour at 5pm but it is okay because there are happy hours nearby and you can text the server when you are on the way. Expect the long wait but plan ahead and it is worth it.

Yelp
I met up for dinner with a friend here and we absolutely loved our experience! We both ordered the Nozawa and it was simply delicious! Plate after plate, every bite was full of flavor . The ambiance is cozy with dim lighting and closely seated tables. It is a popular location so the wait was an hour long (we were there on a Friday night) however, we were ok with waiting as we really wanted to dine here- so worth the wait! Looking forward to dining here again!

Yelp
Sugarfish was such an amazing experience! I love to just order their "don't think, just eat." It's literally such an amazing concept especially for people like me who's very indecisive. It comes with so much variety like hand rolls, sashimi, and nigiri's. Everything was just perfect. I've been here a few times now and it always hit the spot. The ambiance is so cozy and I love the ambient lighting inside the place. Perfect lunch and dinner spot in Manhattan!

Yelp
SUGARFISH, where have you been all my life?? Every piece was like a little bite of ocean magic. The fish? Melted in my mouth like it was made of buttery clouds. The rice? Warm, seasoned perfection. I felt like royalty being fed by a crew of sushi angels. Also, shoutout to the staff--friendly, fast, and clearly know they're working in a temple of deliciousness.

Yelp
Food- Delicious! Very fresh and nicely plated. Keep in mind that this is not your traditional sushi spot where you get big rolls. Service- Decent. Friendly greeter but waitresses not as much. Ambiance- small place with great ambiance. Can be a great place for a date or just a casual dinner. Not too fancy

Kendrick L.

Yelp
We came in on Valentine's Day so the wait being a couple of hours was definitely expected. The place was a bit quiet and dim lighted giving it more of a "date night" atmosphere. We ordered the "Nozawa Trust Me", which included a variety of items on the menu. We absolutely devoured every plate that came and I'd have to say that it is one of the best quality sushi in the area. I honestly couldn't tell if I was still hungry at the end or if I just enjoyed it so much that I wanted more.
google avatar

Paulette D.

Yelp
I got the "Don't think. Just eat" which includes a sashimi course, 7 orders of nigiri, and two hand rolls. They took our food pretty fast and they bring out each order after you finish so no rush on if you want to take your time eating. Each dish was absolutely delicious and it was filling. The other person I was with did not even finish all the dishes, but I did and had room for dessert xD it was difficult to hear what each piece of sushi was though. The waiters either said it too softly or too quick so cannot give recommendations on what is good or not as good. The toro is the thing that comes to mind that is a must get and of course the tuna and salmon. It can be quite loud in there and they do pack you in so not an ideal place if you are trying to catch up or get to know someone. Not much privacy with the conversations so do keep that in mind if you're trying to go during peak hours
google avatar

Yelp
My husband surprised me with some sushi for my bday! I haven't gotten sugarfish in a while, but because it's been a while I must say that the quality is still the same. Always consistent and that blue crab roll got me in a choke hold so we of course had to order extra!

Yelp
My friend brought me here because it's her favorite sushi spot in LA. Great location in Manhattan beach. Very walkable neighborhood with tons of cute shops, and you can spot the beach a couple blocks down on the side streets. We came on a sunny Sunday evening early dinner time, around 5. The place was already popping, but we only had to wait a few minutes for a spot for 2 at the bar. Very minimalist, traditional yet sleek decor. We went with the trust me menu, which is what my friend says she usually gets. This was a great way to try a variety of delicious things without decision fatigue or FOMO. Edamame kicked things off, a plate piled high with the pods perfectly salted, expertly steamed. Next course was sashimi in a soy/ginger sauce. Then, a few rounds of sushi. Salmon and albacore, I believe. The standout for me was a blue crab hand roll. The crab was so fresh, delicately meaty and briny. Phenomenal taste. Loved the way the coolness with the crab meshed with the warmth of the fresh rice. Really comforting and satisfying. I actually ordered one extra of these. I'd for sure get this again. Each course came out quickly, but I didn't feel rushed. Service was impeccable. The waitstaff functions like a team, everyone willing to help wherever needed. A note- they are t a tipping restaurant, but opt for a standard service fee on the bill (ours was 16%, two people- not sure if bigger groups are more.) The basic trust me was $35 apiece and including the extra roll, tax, and service, our total for 2 people was around $95. All things considered, not bad for excellent quality, hyper fresh sushi in LA. Honestly, I can easily spend $50 for one person on a couple of specialty rolls of lower quality in smaller cities, so the price seemed beyond reasonable for quality. My friend also ordered another trust me to go for her girlfriend (lol- request to bring home from 2 hours away). Told me they put what everything is on the package and separate into diff sections -super fast, ready a few minutes after we finished.

Yelp
Location is nice with awesome service. Ambiance and staff were great and the food as always was delicious. Ordered the Trust Me with a la carte Bay Scallops and enjoyed everything. The pulsed out fresh food is a great experience and of course mouthwatering.

Yelp
I tried coming here last year and the plan got foiled because this place is always busy lol. So take two and luckily we got a table! I had no idea this place did a pre fix style of eating. I mean you can buy a la carte but most people do one of the pre fix deals and being that I was hungry and wanting some good sushi I went for the don't think just eat meal It consisted of many little dishes from tuna sashimi to hand rolls to your traditional sushi nigiri Let me tell you the fish was delicious and sooo buttery and melt in your mouth!! The lobster was so tender it was amazing! It's a small place but can sit a good amount between the tables and the bar option Speaking of bar they do serve wine and some beer but mainly sake and no cocktails or other spirits or liquor unfortunately but I get it I get it... they keep it Japanese traditional and I can't fault that Service was a good when it was good but at times a little slow but not badly at least again not to be warranting a knock down It's definitely a great casual or dinner date place I want more sushi now that I'm seeing my pics lol

Yelp
Heartbroken loyalist, Sugarfish isn't what it used to be. I've loved Sugarfish since the early days, introduced friends, sent it to new parents, even ordered it for my wife after childbirth. It meant something to us. But our recent visit to the Manhattan Beach location broke that bond. The ambiance was hot garbage. Loud, chaotic and packed with people who cared more about flexing than food. No greeting. No warmth. A server dropped edamame on the tray, then placed it back like nothing happened. Staff chatted loudly, sat at the bar scrolling phones. No one made us feel seen. Not even a goodbye. The food was still good, but even that had issues, uneven portions, careless plating. The feedback card I got already had someone else's email written on it. I reached out privately to share how heartbreaking this was. I got a copy-paste response/performative loop asking for a phone call I couldn't take. I had already written everything with care. I never heard back. Sugarfish used to feel special. Now it just feels indifferent.

Yelp
Had my birthday dinner at SUGARFISH after my friends recommended it, and wow--what a great experience! I went with the "Don't Think, Just Eat" option, and every dish they brought out was fantastic. I have a scallop allergy, so I made sure to let our server know, and they were super accommodating--swapped the scallops with tuna without any hassle. The place is cozy, though, so by the time we left, there was already a line of people waiting to get seated. I would definitely come back again!

Yelp
Sugarfish is mine and my husband's absolute favorite sushi place! When we got engaged, we celebrated at the location in New York! We are so happy we found a location close by to home! I think his location is one of the bigger spaces we've been to. When the line is too long, we like to order the Togo box and eat on the beach! The Trust Me boxes are so yummy! Salmon sushi is our favorite! When we eat inside, we like to order omakase! Service is always really great, and we've never had a bad experience here. Definitely our go-to date spot! Parking can be a little difficult. You have to find street or public parking since it's by the beach!

Yelp
We got seated at the bar area and the fish was fresh and the food was good. Nice little spot in Manhattan definitely will be back. The only con was we waited a long time to be seated even when the bar was open as we requested.

Yelp
Completely overrated. Super limited menu. Everything I actually wanted, they don't serve. Spicy tuna -NO, cucumber salad- NO, miso soup -NO. The most easy basics NO. The items we did have, not special at all. Don't waste your money most importantly don't waste your time. Izka-ya down the block never misses.

Yelp
Disappointed with my experience starting with my service. Staff was less than engaged. Comparing this visit to the one at the Santa Monica location, I have to say it was a total different experience. I felt as though we were, dare I say, an inconvenience a bother. Not sure I've ever felt that way at any restaurant. I was there with my husband, 2 sons and our daughter in law. We purchased 5 of The Nozawa Trust Me package along with plenty of beer. Certainly enough food to qualify for some attention from the staff. Instead we received very little of it. Dirty dishes remained on our table as we struggled to find space for our many dishes. I usually rate heavily on the quality and presentation of the food I eat vs the other items, such as, service, decor and wait time. They are just not as significant in my total review score. This time service was so dismal that it affected the total experience in an unfortunate manner. Two of the five of us were first time visitors to Sugar Fish and they were not impressed and I was embarrassed. Now the quality of the fish was very good so there's that. However, that was not enough to improve my overall dissatisfied participation with the dinner experience at Sugar Fish.

Yelp
Delicious, I forgot to take pics other than the first dish. Omakase in Manhattan beach at Sugarfish is incredible. The service was great and the location is a little noisy when it gets busy. But if you want quality sushi you know the deal.

Yelp
we had never tried omakase before, but we were excited! i was worried that i would still be hungry, but the trust me menu was a great size to taste a lot without feeling stuffed. we sat at the bar and the restaurant felt very intimate. the tables looked very close together. and it seems like they do not have outdoor seating anymore. our favorite was definitely the crab hand roll at the end. all of the sushi was good quality and the service was friendly. the prices definitely made this feel like a treat, but it was a fun time!

Yelp
Delicious good quality sushi, excellent service. Just wish the location would keep some windows open so it's not so dark inside

Yelp
Fantastic service, fantastic food, and decent value to boot. I got the Nozawa Trust Me for $46, and it was great. 16% service charge is automatically added and there's no tip prompt...that alone deserves 5 stars by itself. Thank you for being such a wonderful establishment with great service and food.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot for Sushi as it's very fresh and tasty. I also love the rice here as it has a good balance of rice vinegar. Prices are on the expensive end but for the amount of food you get I am full by the end of it and it's well worth the $50-60 per person with tip included. I also like how you get a hand roll or two included in the set. Inside has a minimal appeal with bar and table seating. The service is always great here refilling any ginger/wasabi you may need and drinks.

Yelp
For the quality of food and the amount given, the prices at SUGARFISH are so worth it. I tried this when I was in LA and it instantly jumped up to one of my favorite places. I love the way that the sushi and hand rolls are prepared -- everything is so fresh and has the perfect amount of flavor. I got the "Don't Think. Just Eat" set ($59), which came with a sashimi course, 7 orders of nigiri, and 2 hand rolls. By the time I was done, I was stuffed and so satisfied. My favorites were the otoro, salmon, and shrimp sushi, as well as both the crab hand roll and the tuna hand roll. The hand rolls also came out fresh so the outside was warm and crunchy, which contrasted with the cool fish. In addition, my friend ordered a Nigori - Unfiltered sake, which introduced me to my new favorite sake. Overall, all wins during this meal and I only wish I lived closer to LA so I could frequent this place more often!

Yelp
I've always heard great things about Sugarfish & finally got to try it when I visited LA last weekend. I was pleasantly surprised by the prices! I went with 2 others less than an hour after they opened on a Saturday. There was no wait & we were served immediately. All of us did The Nozawa Trust Me which included 10 different items for $39-what a deal! We also ordered a few items a la carte such as uni and unagi. Very high quality of the fish and tasted fresh and delicious. We were all pretty full by the last dish. Overall such a great value & cannot wait until the next time I can eat at Sugarfish!

Yelp
I arrived here with my championship belt over my right shoulder after MOGGING my moms Tuesday night Pickleball group made up of 60+ year old Manhattan Beach Moms. Nah but fr I went 5-1 and that felt pretty good, those ladies can PLAY. I did a quick google search to see how many Sugarfish locations there are, and stumbled upon an article written in the Infatuation ranking every Sugarfish location in LA. To my suprise, a hand came out of my phone and open palm SLAPPED me across the face when I read "I don't know anything about this location. I've never been here, never heard anything about it, and didn't even know it existed before today." THE BLATANT DISRESPECT! I don't know what it is, and maybe it's my inherent Manhattan Beach bias, but I swear everytime I leave this Sugarfish I always say to myself "this is way better than every other Sugarfish location I have ever been to. They must be sourcing their fish from somewhere else than all the other Sugarfishes..." Last night, my dear reader, was no different. Just absolute QUALITY in every cut of fish that came in my Nozawa Trust Me. Melt in your mouth quality. My mom, licking her wounds from getting MOGGED by me on the pickleball court only hours prior, felt the exact same. "I swear this is just so much better than the Santa Monica one..." BIG FACTS MOM! I live in NY now, and the Sugarfish in Soho can't hold a candle to this one. Everyone I say this to balks, but New York sushi can't hold the jockstrap of LA sushi. There are exceptions to every rule, but in general I feel so passionately about that statement. Anyways, I'm getting off track here my b. After housing my Nozawa Trust me and half of my moms Trust Me because she eats like a rabbit, I grabbed my championship belt and left with a big smile on my face as I was now on a belly full of A1 quality sushi. Thank you, Sugarfish Manhattan Beach. Thank you. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Yelp
Loved our sugarfish experience! We arrived for an earlier dinner and still had about an hour wait. There's plenty of shops or other bars in the area to kill time at. Once we were seated, we all got the trust me menu and some sake to share. Honestly the amount of food you get for $35 (trust me menu) is well worth the price and it's all fresh and delicious. My favorite was the crab hand roll!

Yelp
I was stoked to find a small local sushi spot in Manhattan Beach, but the inflexibility & service just kinda let me down. Luckily, we arrived at 5pm on a Monday & felt lucky to get a table (or so said the host bc they're so busy yet don't take reservations & had only a half-full restaurant). The menu is small with good daily specials but a super small drink menu, and it's 16% built-in top. And, they don't do soy or cucumber wrap, only nori. And no spicy, only wasabi. Overall: unaccommodating & inflexible.... So: Food 10, service 5. Ok! We reviewed the menu many times & were upset by a small alcohol menu; only 3 white wines, no reds; 2 beers; & only sake (no cocktails). 2 Chardonnay & 1 Sauvignon blanc. The tuna sashimi app with sesame was delicious! And the nozama shrimp sesame negiri was soooo good.... The server asked us if we wanted more & we said maybe one round. About 10mins later, she asked if we wanted "one more round before it was our time to go", which meant it was time to go, so we got our checks & left. No better way to leave than "gtfo" :( All in all, I dig this place but they need a better booze selection & better service. Maybe the 16% built in tip without dispute isn't a good model bc the service was sub-par for sure.
