Sugarfish

Arrived at 8pm and it was a 1hr30 to 2hr wait for a party of 2 because there were 31 parties in front of us. So, take out it is! But the take out boxes were delicious, well organized and generously portioned. The boxes took 25min to prepare and included utensils, soy sauce, ponzu sauce, lemon, ginger, green onions and a wet cloth. They easily accommodated my shellfish allergy and replaced with other fish. There were instructions in the lid for which fish should go with which sauce and normally, I'd say that dipping the rice side in soy is a big no no but don't knock it til you try it. I tried 1 pc dipping the fish in soy and then the other pc dipping the rice in soy and the rice side dipped in soy tasted better!! Dipping the rice in the soy allowed the freshness and the flavour of the fish come through more. The flavour of the rice and Nori were also delicious! This is a no tipping establishment and for roughly $45 to $65 per box (depending on the box you get)...it's so worth it and I'd definitely make this a must visit if you're in the LA area. I think I prefer the take out option because the dining area was very dark, dimly lit and loud (hence my 3 stars for the atmosphere). Service is friendly and helpful.

Been wanting to visit every since they opened this location. Cozy atmosphere. But a bit loud for my taste. For a party of two, there was about 20 minutes wait on a Monday evening. Love the ambience. Ordered the "Trust me" combo It was very fresh and delicious 😋 Reasonably priced for the quality of ingredients 👍🏼

their signature is the Trust Me menu - essentially mini omakase at the price point you prefer. Like all omakases, always sit at the counter if given the option. The fish here is really great quality and fresh, although the slices on the sashimi and nigiri are somewhat on the small side. The service can also be pretty slow when the restaurant is busy. It seems there isn't more than 2 or 3 primary chefs from what I could see through the window into the kitchen. The Ala carte options also seem to be reasonably priced, although the only thing I ordered aside from the Nozawa Trust Me is the amaebi nigiri. All items served in the Nozawa Trust Me are in my pictures. Overall a very decent choice for sushi, especially considering their no-tipping policy makes it easy to calculate what your final bill will be.

Sushi at Sugarfish is spectacular! Seriously though, the sushi was unbelievable. The service was great and the price was very reasonable. We ordered the Don't Think. Just Eat. Trust Me. And I would absolutely order it again. The warm rice is everything! The whole experience was delightful and I highly recommend Sugarfish! 👍👍👍

I always find that Sugarfish varies a lot in the quality of the fish and the size and thickness of the fish at each location. I don't know if it was just today, but the sushi here is way behind the sushi at the Santa Monica location I had a few days ago. It's not bad considering the price, but it's a shame that you can get better sushi at other locations for the same price.

The sushi here is delicious and overall a great experience. Probably the best sushi we've had in the United States. Especially when you consider the price. We had an hour wait and that was fine. The service was pretty quick once we were seated. My boyfriend ordered the Nozawa Trust Me course and I ordered the Don't Think Just Eat option. Mine was not worth the extra difference in price. There were a few variations in fish but only one additional plate of Nigiri. So stick with their cheaper options! But seriously, we loved the food!

Food was pretty good. They were out of a lot of specials. The highest special (don't think just eat...) they were out. They never received the shipment of uni, they were out of a certain sake, sweet shrimp... We had to ask for a menu of what they did have and we were not happy. We went and got the nozawa special (1 downgrade). They had to swap the hirame for the bay scallops. Not that good of a swap either. I probably won't revisit this branch. I wish they warned customers when signing up so we can make a decision on food... The otoro wasn't consistent. 2 plates had beautiful otoro, and the other 2 plates had what looked like regular toro or chuutoro (which they were out of, so it couldn't have been that) Their sushi had quite a bit too much rice for a pretty fancy sushi spot. (it was still tasty though, and I assume this is how they chose to serve it) I think they should have had a longer sushi piece for each of their rice (instead of removing rice) The service was really bad as well. Whenever I said one thing, they seemed to want to get out of there and ran away when I wanted to add something else. They were slightly busy, but they should at least try to listen to the full order. They took plates right as we finished them... Which is okay sometimes but the plates sometimes had some fallen rice we did want to eat and they just took them in front of us. I felt unwelcomed there The atmosphere I gave a 2* since it was so dark I wasn't really able to see the sushi well.
