Yelp
PRO: Atmosphere, food, staff, cleanliness & pricing was good. (2 coffees and 2 meals $68)
Things to note:
Shrimp & grits meal comes with tails on the shrimp, so be prepared to remove them so you can enjoy them together. Chicken was salty.
Photographer inside takes pics for $20 each for a framed 4x6.
Plenty of parking, but only after you've parked and arrived at the door you are then met with a sign on the door that says "don't park in the north parking lot". That leaves a pit in your stomach after you've walked from your already parked car.
ISSUE: I gave 4 stars because I had reservations and still waited 10 mins before being greeted. I watched the hostess seat 4 different tables who didn't have reservations. Once finally greeted by the hostess who was now looking around to see where she was going to seat me because all the floor tables, except one, were now full, I said "I don't mind sitting at the high booth by the bar". She said "no, I have a large group coming to sit there". So I was seated in front of the DJ. Now the 2 girls who walked in right behind me, subsequent to my arrival, they were seated at that same high booth table within 4 mins. . WTH?? So much for the large group coming in.... who didn't arrive yet...
Yes, the 2 girls were seated at a 4 person booth by the bar. The large group of 6 who finally came in 10 mins later, all sat at the other high top booth (closest to the wall). Perplexed was I? Very. Especially about the timing and the non existent reason for telling me no. She gave the very next 2 people waiting behind me the table I just asked for. (yes, I was also a party of 2). . So there must be a grace period for reservations, unlike the message received in the email that says "you will be added to the priority wait list if you don't arrive at your reserved time".
CON:I was excited with anticipation to try the foundation of how SugarJam was established, but since it's a Friday morning my excitement quickly went to was very disappointment after the waiter said "not today". The write-up about how the restaurant was est.,, owner was a baker, etc. Well, the baked goods are only available on the weekends (Sat & Sun only) No sugary goods to melt in my mouth.
Website leaves that very important part out.
Lastly, the website also tells patrons there is a dress code. Well, the staff does not enforce that at all. The 2 5th graders that sat across from me, with their parents, at the front door, had a front row seat to all of the butt cheeks hanging out of shorts. Within 30 mins, at least 15 ladies were seated in different locations and had their bare skin on the chair. I understand it's 90+ outside, but it's a family environment. Not a ladies only adult hangout. Leave the yeast prone attire for the beach please.
I would advise the dress code be visible on the homepage and not buried in "what you need to know" and also add it to the "confirm your reservation" email, to ensure all ages will adhere to an appropriate dress code that will be enforced.
Shout out to the DJ (for "that" policy being enforced) by bleeping out the profanity from the music. Especially since children were there.
I was surprised some staff had the same black work T-shirt on and some didn't. It was hard to determine who worked there and who didn't, especially the young staff wearing red leggings.
Ending on a positive.... it is a great place for groups of 4 or more. Just need a 'lil more cultivating. Nice location for celebrations. There aren't any small tables for just 2. There is a fully stocked bar, with approx 12 seats & 4 TVs.
Will return for baked goods on the next vacation.
