Sugar Jam is an absolute gem! I came from Atlanta to celebrate my birthday and wanted Sunday brunch options. From the moment we walked in, Sam made us feel welcomed and made the most delicious mimosas (and cupcakes)! The warm and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for a great experience. The service was top-notch—friendly, attentive, and genuine. You can tell the staff takes pride in what they do. Now let’s talk about the food—WOW. Every bite was packed with flavor and clearly made with love. Whether you're craving brunch classics or Southern-inspired comfort food, everything is cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The portions are generous too, so come hungry! If you're looking for amazing food, excellent service, and a place that feels like home, this is it. Highly recommend!

My breakfast was delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect for gathering—whether for brunch. The staff were friendly and made the experience enjoyable. Definitely try anything that comes with the pecan syrup—it’s a highlight! Note that it’s best to bring cash, as they do not split checks. There’s also a photographer available for group photos (about $20 per person). The drinks were just okay.

Arrived at 9:10am on a Sunday. No reservations and was seated as soon as we came in. Our waiter was amazing and our food arrived within another 20 minutes. We left the restaurant by 10am, right before it got too busy. Atmosphere is wonderful with a good selection of music. There is a photographer (not sure if it’s every day). However, it shouldn’t be done at the table. Set up an area, and if people choose to do photos, they can. This avoid having drinks and food in the photos and you’ll have a better chance with lighting and people possibly buying the photos.

Me and my friend had brunch here May 17th and it was my first time here and I enjoyed it! It was such a good vibe!!! I am so glad we made reservations as it is highly recommended. We got there at 9:30am and the music was going but I noticed the music gets louder as more of a crowd comes in which was about 10-10:30am. I forgot our waiter's name but he was so cool and sweet! I had the chicken and French toast, scrambled eggs and potatoes and it was so good!!! The music was good as well! I also love how a photographer comes to your table and takes your picture and then later they come with different poses of your picture and you can get that with a frame for only $25-$30 ( I forgot the price). But this is a very cute spot and taste very southern! As a person for the south, this was refreshing! I would be back!

Google
Wow! This food is amazing! We just popped in for lunch today and were completely bowled over with the fun vibe, the yummy drinks, and outstanding, delicious, down-home food! The service was fast, friendly, just impeccable. Portions are big, so we are looking forward to having it later today. (I might not be able to wait too long before I finish off the shrimp and grits!)

Google
Real good and honest food with real flavour. Get there early this place is pretty much full all the time. We got shrimp & grits + apple pie french toast & chicken tenders. Did not disappoint. We had their biscuits previously and was too full to enjoy them again this time, get it if you can. Great vibe, and the coffee is great too

Google
Absolutely incredible food! Mouth watering, delicious flavors. The ambiance had the perfect vibe and all the staff were great. Our server, CW, was incredibly friendly and gave us the best service. My son and I had a fabulous breakfast and said many times to each other how we can’t wait to go back again.

Google
First dish Brisket and biscuits was delicious but barely any brisket, the gravy was really good and everything paired well. Then we got our main dishes and they were HORRIBLE! They are charging $2 extra for powdered eggs! The Catfish had to have been cooked in burnt grease and it was overcooked hard and dry. The Salmon Croquette (bigger Salmon Balls that were not from a bag) were good but didnt match the price smh. The Creole Shrimp & Grits was awful...tasteless overcooked shrimp, grits were bland NO Creole sauce, served with pre-packaged mini salmon balls that have more batter than crab meat, they were hard and overcooked. Brunch Punch was good but hardly has any liquor in it...visiting from Atlanta and was very disappointed as were about 5 other diners with similiar complaints. They charge you for eggs whether you get them or not and you can't substitute anything smh. Manager Viviana took the eggs off the bill (and claimed they were real but the waitress had already verified that they were not smh) and they charge gratuity period, even if you don't get any service at all! Once your food is served that's it, they dont check on you. Had to flag them down to ask for honey for the biscuits and still never got it. Also had to flag them down for the bill and it wasn't even that busy. Also the dishes were overpriced for the portions you get, including the drinks.

Yelp
Catfish is great! Stay away from the bloody Mary! The salt in that will dehydrate you on the first sip! The biscuits and gravy are great, a little extra gravy would be appreciated! I will go back!

Yelp
I came to sugar jam during my first time in Arizona last week & this place was a top tier experience. The music was great, everyone was friendly and welcoming. The vibe was on point with great music and so many beautiful people. Our server was great & they gave free shots to the birthday girls in our group. I had the catfish & grits , it was really good. I also had a wake up Mary & I wasn't crazy about it. I also tried the fried lobster & shrimp Mac & cheese, the brisket on brisket and chicken & waffles, SO FREAKIN GOOD. I would come back to AZ just for Sugar Jam

Yelp
I'm going to do the compliment sandwich for SugarJam. SugarJam has a great vibe, with beautiful artwork, fun colors, and a cute entrance to set the tone immediately. Other plus, lots of parking. The critique middle. SugarJam has a LOT of rules. Most are understandable for a popular restaurant but they are VERY in your face with them - they are on website, reminder emails and texts, bottom of menu. It's like there is zero trust or expectation of basic manners from their customers and while I get it's probably warrented, it bothered me that I was told four different ways to dress nice to eat there, but they had a server in grey print running shorts with his tshirt. It also bothered me that they have hidden at bottom of menu that any dish with eggs has a $2 surcharge. It's printed onto the menu - just price the dish what it needs, instead of sneaking it in. Last critique, seating. For both our group and at least two other groups I saw, they tried to put us at tables that were clearly not meant for groups are size. We all said not happening and they gave larger tables, but unless a table tells you they are willing to be uncomfortable in order to not wait, don't put groups at tables clearly meant for less people. Now the second piece of compliment bread and why I would go there again, although just during week versus brunch so hopefully a little more relaxed. The food. It is amazing. Their cooks know how to season. The brisket is flavorful and tender, potatoes are crisp outside with soft insides and Cajun seasoning. Biscuits are tall and fluffy. Ox tail was melt in mouth with a little bit of a kick. The remoulade sauce for the salmon croquettes was delicious. And for coffee drinkers, big mugs with good coffee. So to recap, go, but during week if going for the food and on the weekend if the vibe is just as important.

Yelp
I like to try things for myself, even when friends don't give the best recommendations. That's how we ended up at Sugar Jam while in the Scottsdale area my husband was curious to check it out. I am very picky when it comes to my food. I grew up with two parents who was like in-house chefs they both could cook ! I write an overall experience Customer Service presentation! The food took so long to, it was ridiculous. The catfish was not good ! Yes Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The atmosphere was extremely loud and felt a bit chaotic; I couldn't even hear my husband talk, which made it hard to enjoy our meal. As for the food, I have to say it missed the mark. The fish was bland, the eggs were terrible, and the only thing I enjoyed were the hot links. The grits were very dry, and even the soda was flat, so I ended up just having water. Our server was okay, but I'd rate service a 3 out of 5. I dine out often and enjoy a wide range of restaurants, from fine dining to casual spots, and I travel frequently. Based on my experience, I'd choose Butters in Scottsdale over this restaurant any day. If you like a nightclub vibe with loud music, people dancing, and don't mind eating in a very lively setting, Sugar Jam might be for you. But if you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy a good meal, this probably isn't it. I hope Arizona steps up its game when it comes to soul food. For now, I won't be returning.

Yelp
This place is a total vibe live DJ and music, people dancing around having a great time. It is kinda small and is packed. When we arrived we were unaware that we needed reservations. We had to be placed on a waitlist and waited about 40 mins before we were seated. Because we didn't have a reservation prior to arriving we were seated out on a 103 degree day. That was awful. We asked several times to be seated inside but because so many people had reservations they were not able to move us inside. Which is why I gave them 4 out 5 stars. The menu had many savory options. I got the shrimp and grits which came with two crab balls and two eggs. My friend got the Lobster, shrimp and grits. Both meals were delicious. We also ordered a few drinks, all of their drinks are premade which we didn't really like because we wanted to order our drink a certain way which the waitress said we could not. Also why they got 4 out 5 stars. Overall this is a fun place but next time we will be more prepared and make reservations so we are not dying from the heat while trying to enjoy our meal.

Yelp
Let's start with the good: -Service at cafe while waiting for our table was excellent -The music for Saturday brunch complemented the aesthetic -Cocktail made with black owned whiskey -Blueberry biscuit is a must try, it was moist and each bite better than the last -Older woman bussing tables had great attention to detail and saved dining experience Now on to the need for improvement: - Server-Rusty-was just that. It took him a while to greet the table, when food was delivered he never checked in and any soft drink refills had to be requested and fulfilled by someone else -Friends at table ordered sprites and they were flat -Some main entrees come out cold meaning they had been in the window waiting for other entrees to be finished The menu is very explicit about details regarding what's in their dishes and how their kitchen operates. From this I had an expectation that was not met. I don't think I'll be visiting again.

Yelp
My friends and I decided to step out for brunch this weekend and Sugarjam was first on the list. We made a reservation, which I highly recommend as the wait can be a little long on the weekends at high volume hours. Food was really good, I got the salmon croquettes and my friends got Rasta pasta with shrimp and the sweet potato waffle with jerk chicken. The wait wasn't too long on the food and everything came out hot and sizzling Food was really good but I definitely could finish it as they had a live DJ and I was more interested in enjoying the vibes and attempting to finish their mimosa tower. Had so much fun, will definitely be back.

Yelp
Nothing like a good weekend brunch ! SugarJam is one of those places you have to visit to catch a good vibe and eat good. The staff were friendly and service was great. I had the catfish n grits which were pretty good. I also had some of the shrimp which were also good.

Yelp
The fried chicken and French toast were absolutely delicious! We went on a busy Sunday for brunch, the place was packed, but luckily we had a reservation and were seated right away. The food came out quickly, and the staff were all super friendly. There was even a live DJ playing music, which added a fun vibe to the atmosphere. Overall, a great brunch experience!

Yelp
Drinks tried: Strawberry marmosa (margarita/momosa I guess, wasn't my drink) Apple Cider Side Car Both weren't bad. Unfortunately, you can drink a regular side car to the end. This one had bits and syrup. Biscuits were YUMMY! Food wasn't bad. I didn't know what I wanted and our server was not too helpful in that area. Shrimp and grits were fine. The brisket was also okay. Kinda dry and disappointing because this was a splurge meal for me. I probably should've tried the smash burger or chopped cheese. I may return to try some baked goods. Drinks were yummy and the ambiance wasn't bad. DJ was decent and there were a few birthdays. Normal brunch vibe. There was a dancing waitress and she brought energy and a joyous vibe to the establishment. I would go again, if in the area, to try the vegan sweet potato hash. Try it and tell us what you think!

Yelp
Hands down the BEST red velvet waffles ever!! Everything we ordered was amazing! It was kinda of loud but it didn't take away from the vibe! Service was very attentive ! Friendly people! I will be back!

Yelp
Two words: LOVED IT! The vibe was spot on the staff was welcoming and accommodating. We had a party of 10 for a bachelor/bachelorette weekend and everything was perfect! The food was delicious (especially my oxtails and grits) and the drinks were great also. There were tasty brunch shots and an epic mimosa tower for us to share. The DJ was fantastic and we loved every single thing he played! All in all, everyone enjoyed themselves and SugarJam was a perfect choice for what our group needed. Cheers!

Yelp
I can't say enough about this place! Was in Arizona to visit Sedona and stopped at SugarJam after landing in Phoenix. The vibe was great, the staff were super friendly, and the food and cocktails were so good! I would highly recommend stopping here whether you're local or visiting. We tried to come back for Sunday brunch and couldn't get a reservation so if you're going on a weekend, plan early!

Yelp
Yeah! Made it to Sugar Jam!! My niece flew in to have brunch with me. We arrived just after nine without reservations and was able to be seated on the patio. Our server, Nevonte is excellent and provided amazing service. I'm really loving my first time. The food was DELICIOUS! My niece ordered the Fried Lobster with Creole Shrimp & Crab N' Grits. She enjoyed it. I ordered the Fried Catfish N Grits. I asked for cheese on the eggs but I didn't see or taste and cheese. I also ordered a side of bacon. It was good but I can pass the next time the Friday Catfish was well seasoned and very tasty. The food didn't take long at all. I went to wash my hands after ordering and the food was on the table when I returned. The restroom decor is amazing. The weather was perfect for patio seating. When we got up to leave, inside was jumping. We came at the right time. They give a shot for birthdays but my niece told him I wouldn't want one so they gave me a cookie. It was delicious and tasted like there was some spice in it. It was an overall good first time experience.

Yelp
First time here, really loved the DJ set up and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Ordered the shrimp and grits with crab and salmon croquettes. Food was good, just the grits came out like someone just slapped the ingredients onto a plate and said "order up!". Service was good, we did not have to repeat orders and she got everything right.

Yelp
Bruh. This spot. The foood. The vibes. The atmosphere. I just can't say enough good things. Definitely make a reservation, definitely be on time. Dj had immaculate vibes. Our server was the best. I had the sweet potato waffle and jerk chicken. The waffle was perfect and the jerk chicken was delicious, for the price I thought that it would be a little bit bigger of a chicken piece but regardless was delicious. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great Southern style cooking and a very fun spot for a weekend visit! They have live music and a DJ on Sundays to entertain while brunching. My two favorite dishes for brunch are the French Toast/Fried Chicken- Grand Marnier marinated challah bread served with buttermilk fried chicken tenders drizzled with SJ signature BBQ-maple sauce served with eggs, housemade vanilla butter, and rum pecan syrup! The second favorite is the Fried Lobster/Creole- Fried lobster tail on top of southern-style creamy grits layered with seven sautéed shrimp in savory creole gravy and two handmade crab balls. The staff and service are both very pleasant and easy to get along with. They are PACKED on the weekends so best getting there as early as possible on Saturday's or Sundays.

Yelp
02/07 Came in before 11 AM on a Friday and was able to immediately get a table but I hear that it can get crowded fast. Service - our server was cool...all of the food came out piping hot and drinks stayed refreshed. Food - I had the French toast and fried chicken combo. The French toast was very tasty, the eggs were fluffy w/ a perfect amount of cheese, and the fried chicken was crispy & seasoned well. The kool aid was a perfect balance of sweet & tart as blue. Ambience - the DJ was on the 1s & 2s spinning all the 90s hits...we could barely contain ourselves as this was the music we grew up listening to. I'm so glad we came...a good time was had & we sending everyone we know here that comes to PHX. Next time I'm in PHX, this is my first stop.

Yelp
Sugar Jam is good! In fact We need a sugar jam in every corner of this state. C'mon Southern cooking needs to represent more. I loved the food here. There's also a great ambiance with a full bar and misc pumping at any hour in the morning. It's missing a star mostly cause I think the greeting and welcoming and service can be better. With southern cooking it's easy to expect Southern Hospitality and that's not a big thing here....but I come for the food anyways....that's what keeps me coming

Yelp
So glad that we made time to checkout SugarJam before heading back to Vegas. To my surprise i was able to make a reservation for Sunday brunch and snag a table that same morning. You do have to use a credit card to hold your table! We were seated right away, greeted by our server, and placed our order all within 10 min. My sister and I both decided on the French toast with the peppered bacon and eggs. The challah bread French toast was cooked perfectly. Toasty and warm on the outside with a chewy inside. The cinnamon butter and warm syrup with little floating pecan pieces. The eggs were good, nothing too special, just good. The peppered bacon was a true banger! Crispy, salty, slightly greasy...just what I wanted and expected! My husband had the salmon croquettes with eggs and Gouda grits. He loved EVERYTHING. He was too full to eat the biscuit, but ate it later. It heats up nicely and he said it was awesome!!! Perfect price point for the service and food quality. They would've received a 5 had they not run out of milk. My sister wanted a glass of milk and they ran out. How do you not have milk at a brunch spot and run out by 9am? Oh well, we'll be back! Overall, great vibe!

Yelp
Dined-5/10/25: REALLY wanted to love this place after all the social media videos I've seen. 6 of us went to celebrate a friend's Graduation. The vibes/DJs music were a 3/4. But the food was a 2. 3 of us ordered French toast and the French toast was EXTREMELY SALTY! To the point where it was inedible. I was given another order of French toast but it was also super salty so for my 3rd attempt, my table ordered pancakes which another friend had and enjoyed & were much better. One of the girls at the table next to us, also mentioned the salty French toast. Our server (won't say their name) also tasted the 2nd round of French toast and had to spit it out as they agreed it was super salty. 2 of the girls at our table didn't eat their scrambled eggs due to presentation. I ordered the chicken & French toast and aside from my inedible salty French toast, my chicken strips were really dry (I also asked the strips to be served w/o syrup & they were still slathered w/ syrup & were still VERY dry. On top of that, it was really warm/hot inside (I was lucky as I was sat on the edge and got a quick breeze when the staff opened the back door). Overall, the DJ's music was a vibe but for the price of food and the 1/2 serving of an Old Fashion (when many places will top a short Old Fashion drink glass. This place seemed overpriced as the food was really underwhelming. Not sure I'd recommend but I might try it once more to do a final confirmation as I did enjoy the music. Overall, you can find other more affordable & tasty brunch places in the valley (those may not have the DJ but will have edible & affordable food which would make it worth it)!

Yelp
PRO: Atmosphere, food, staff, cleanliness & pricing was good. (2 coffees and 2 meals $68) Things to note: Shrimp & grits meal comes with tails on the shrimp, so be prepared to remove them so you can enjoy them together. Chicken was salty. Photographer inside takes pics for $20 each for a framed 4x6. Plenty of parking, but only after you've parked and arrived at the door you are then met with a sign on the door that says "don't park in the north parking lot". That leaves a pit in your stomach after you've walked from your already parked car. ISSUE: I gave 4 stars because I had reservations and still waited 10 mins before being greeted. I watched the hostess seat 4 different tables who didn't have reservations. Once finally greeted by the hostess who was now looking around to see where she was going to seat me because all the floor tables, except one, were now full, I said "I don't mind sitting at the high booth by the bar". She said "no, I have a large group coming to sit there". So I was seated in front of the DJ. Now the 2 girls who walked in right behind me, subsequent to my arrival, they were seated at that same high booth table within 4 mins. . WTH?? So much for the large group coming in.... who didn't arrive yet... Yes, the 2 girls were seated at a 4 person booth by the bar. The large group of 6 who finally came in 10 mins later, all sat at the other high top booth (closest to the wall). Perplexed was I? Very. Especially about the timing and the non existent reason for telling me no. She gave the very next 2 people waiting behind me the table I just asked for. (yes, I was also a party of 2). . So there must be a grace period for reservations, unlike the message received in the email that says "you will be added to the priority wait list if you don't arrive at your reserved time". CON:I was excited with anticipation to try the foundation of how SugarJam was established, but since it's a Friday morning my excitement quickly went to was very disappointment after the waiter said "not today". The write-up about how the restaurant was est.,, owner was a baker, etc. Well, the baked goods are only available on the weekends (Sat & Sun only) No sugary goods to melt in my mouth. Website leaves that very important part out. Lastly, the website also tells patrons there is a dress code. Well, the staff does not enforce that at all. The 2 5th graders that sat across from me, with their parents, at the front door, had a front row seat to all of the butt cheeks hanging out of shorts. Within 30 mins, at least 15 ladies were seated in different locations and had their bare skin on the chair. I understand it's 90+ outside, but it's a family environment. Not a ladies only adult hangout. Leave the yeast prone attire for the beach please. I would advise the dress code be visible on the homepage and not buried in "what you need to know" and also add it to the "confirm your reservation" email, to ensure all ages will adhere to an appropriate dress code that will be enforced. Shout out to the DJ (for "that" policy being enforced) by bleeping out the profanity from the music. Especially since children were there. I was surprised some staff had the same black work T-shirt on and some didn't. It was hard to determine who worked there and who didn't, especially the young staff wearing red leggings. Ending on a positive.... it is a great place for groups of 4 or more. Just need a 'lil more cultivating. Nice location for celebrations. There aren't any small tables for just 2. There is a fully stocked bar, with approx 12 seats & 4 TVs. Will return for baked goods on the next vacation.

Yelp
I LOVED everything about SugarJam! The food, energy, and service was amazing. Easily one of my favorite brunch locations in the Arizona region. To start, my party of three (3) was unable to get a reservation online. We arrived early with the hopes of getting a seat inside. After about 5-ish minutes, we were seated near the kitchen counter with a great view of the main seating area. Soon after being seated, the live DJ was set up and ready to go! The staff (and some customers) began to jam to the music, snapping and dancing, creating the element of what brunch is supposed to be (IMO). The environment was vibrant and the food was unmatched. I ordered biscuits and gravy (typically not my thing, but I wanted to try them), grits, potatoes, and egg whites. It was soooo much food, and even though I tried to stop eating...those darn biscuits and gravy was probably the best I've had in a restaurant!! My other two (2) friends really enjoyed their food and drinks as well. There was also a photographer who would help you pose (should you decide to do so), for pictures you could purchase for $20 per photo. They are delivered in a frame, bagged, and given to you after purchase. NOTE: There is a fee for using a credit card to pay for these photos, so use cash if you have the ability to do so. The pricing for the food and drinks were affordable, which makes it a great option if you're in the area and want some good comfort food. Be sure to make a reservation or show up early early to have a better chance at getting a seat! Until soon...

Yelp
The food was really very good and it came out quickly after we ordered. The vibe in this restaurant is very unique. It's like a loud party with a DJ that serves really good fried chicken and other southern dishes. We went around noon on a Saturday, so I don't know if the DJ is always there.

Yelp
One of my favorite things to do is brunch especially when I'm with friends. Being that I love pancakes, french toast, and waffles; it's always going to be my go to time of day to eat. Once I stepped in Sugar Jam, and might I add make a reservation before getting there, 90 minutes of kicking it with fun wait staff and a dj spinning hit after hit while I dance in my seat waiting for my meal is top tier! It was a whole vibe! The atmosphere is lively, everyone at each table is interacting with each other singing to our waitress singing along with us. The drinks, energy, music, everything was bomb! We came in from Nashville and Indiana to celebrate on a girls trip and were not disappointed at all! The food was amazing, I got the french toast and fried chicken, but we also had at our table the shrimp and grits, and fish and grits! Those grits were so fire (so good, so good)! I kept eating off my friend's plate, lol. She didnt mine at all. We ordered alcoholic drinks - flight of mimosas!. There are several different flavors of mimosas too. I would highly recommend going here to catch the vibe and to enjoy some amazing food.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Everything we ordered came out fast and hot. What was ordered was Shrimp and Grits, a side of Catfish, and a Belgium Waffle. Cheesy Gouda grits were so on point. The flavors were bursting all over my mouth. Jade was our server. She was so kind and knowledgeable with the items on the menu Paparazzi was on deck taking photos. We left Sugarjam with forever memories Large enough for parties. Call in advance for a reservation this place fills up quick because it's a Vibe!!

My husband and I went to this location on my birthday on Friday, November 22 before 10 AM. The restaurant opens at nine so it was perfect timing and not a crowd at all. We were welcomed by the nice decor outside and welcome by the hostess at the stand for us to be seated. I want to see it. Our waiter came over right away to introduce the menu. We ordered the catfish and grits with over easy eggs, flights a banana bourbon, drink, and chicken tenders with waffles with scrambled eggs . We really enjoyed our drinks and the chicken and waffles with eggs, but the catfish and grits. We were a little disappointed with because it was not seasoned. Just a suggestion to make sure the food is seasoned when cooking it. The average prices for the dinners range anywhere from $15 and up and they do have a live DJ at the restaurant after 11 AM. They also have a small store connected to the restaurant where you could buy their delicious desserts and or apparel.

Yelp
Sugar Jam came highly recommended, this was our 1st time, not knowing what to expect, but based on prior reviews and pictures I know I wanted the catfish and grits, this is by far the best I've had, and I'm from the Deep South. Our food came out piping hot even though we ordered it within 5-7 minutes. Everything came out together and the Belgian waffles were just as amazing. The Live music gave us a vibe for sure! I could fly back just for Sugar Jam!

Yelp
Hard review as the food tasted good but wasn't what they said it would be, took forever and service was non existent. Those smash burgers? Just a regular burger. The carmalized onions? Just cooked onions. The flavor was good but not at all as described. And the fries were just floppy. My son's ham was excellent but the eggs were cold and couldn't eat them. His mocktail was incredible and the only thing we'd come back for. When I told the server about this she said "oh, sorry" and walked away. ‍ We sat outside because the dj inside was so very loud...if that's your vibe, enjoy!

Yelp
Ambiance was good. Service was good. Food was just okay. Alcoholic drinks could have been better.

Yelp
Sugar Jam has been on my try list for a while now and I'm sad to say I was a bit disappointed. Let's start with the good. My party and I had a reservation (which can be very hard to get without advance reservations) and were seated pretty quickly. The server answered all of our questions and provided us with some recommendations. They also have a DJ who comes in on weekends to play music and it surprisingly it wasn't too loud and the music selection was pretty good. Ok now on to the reason for the low rating.I ordered the oxtail with smoked Gouda grits and boy was I disappointed. Again, let me start with the good, the oxtails were perfectly seasoned and cooked. I have no complaints about it. However, everyone knows oxtails are pretty fatty and instead of properly draining them before adding it to the grits all of the oil (including the butter used in the grits) turned my grits into a soupy oily mess. I couldn't even tell you what the grits taste like because all I tasted was oil. The grits were watery/oily and loose. When I told the server my issue and asked if she can take it back and ask for a plate of grits without all of the oil, I was told by the manager that they couldn't because there's nothing wrong with the dish and that's how it's made. Will I go back? Honestly I don't know. The others in my party enjoyed their meals (including a friend who ordered the exact same dish as me minus the cup of excess oil) so that's a plus.

Yelp
The wait was an hour and a half, without reservations! It was worth it tho. The music was good, the food was great & the vibes were great. Salmon croquette brunch was really good. The apple pie French toast was so good and the chicken tenders were so well seasoned. The drinks were good, margarita flight and strawberry marmosa were all good. Food came out fast and was fresh. My friends who had the strawberry shortcake French toast said it was so good & the lobster and grits were well seasoned. Whenever I come back, I'll be sure to make reservations in advance. The music was a mix of hip hop and r&b and definitely the dj kept the vibes going

Yelp
I came here for a friends birthday brunch and it was a vibe! There was a live DJ so the vibe is definitely to turn up and they have lots of mimosa options from flavors to flights and carafes. It was pretty packed so the service was slow but the food was delicious! I ordered the chicken and French toast and really liked it. It also came with a side of eggs that you can add cheese peppers and onions too (which I highly recommend if you're into that). Will definitely be back the next time I'm in town!

Yelp
The service is amazing and the atmosphere is great. It's like having brunch at a club. The French toast was prob some of the best I have ever had. It was cooked to perfection and it was not overly sweet. They have mastered the best way to balance the sweetness. The peppered bacon was also good but the French toast was the star of the dish. The catfish was cooked to perfection and was nice and flakey. The wings had a dry rub and was flavorful. The potatoes were good and had a nice little bit of heat to them. We had such a great time at brunch and will be back our next visit to Arizona.

Yelp
Take me back! This was one of my favorite hip hop brunch experiences, anywhere! The DJ is amazing. He "took us back", and didn't skip a beat with the hits. I was originally put off by the menu due to all the fried food option. However, everything my friends and I ordered was delicious and full of flavor. I'm going here as soon as I return to Arizona.

Yelp
I can't say enough about how great the food was here. We had biscuits and gravy and the shrimp n grits. Both dishes were very well done and came out in just minutes of ordering. The atmosphere is very Atlanta brunch house. DJ playing hip hop and a ton of twerking employees. If your looking for a festive spot to eat brunch this is it.

Yelp
This place has a very live vibe, DJ stirring up the crowd and servers very outgoing. We arrived for a lunch reservation on Valentine's Day to a pretty packed house. Seated immediately, our server came by to pitch drinks and give us time to decide on food. We weren't drinking, and she seemed disappointed. I am sure the $18 cocktail crowd has a blast here at brunch but I prefer the value of happy hour. I chose the creole shrimp and grits, and husband ordered the fried shrimp po boy with french fries. There are not a lot of gluten free options, but I had already planned on shrimp and grids, a standby favorite of mine anytime we visit a Southern style restaurant. Sugar Jam did not disappoint, the shrimp were large, plump and snappy in a thin broth with excellent creole flavors. The dish is topped with two crab balls, which I tasted and pronounced delicious but knew they were likely made with wheat flour. The dishes accompanied by two eggs any style, I ask for mine over well. It is extremely rare that I get eggs cooked exactly the way I wanted but they were perfect with a little jammy middle and not runny. My only complaint is the tails on the shrimp are all saucy and a bit messy to remove. The grits had a wonderful creamy texture and I really enjoyed this dish! Husband's fried shrimp po boy was on a classic French roll with Chipotle remoulade sauce, lettuce and tomato. This is the NOLA way! The same big shrimp are breaded with cornmeal and fried, a generous portion. French fries were seasoned but ordinary. It was fully and happily devoured. No tails on the fried shrimp. We also opted not to have dessert, and made a quick getaway. The photographer taking portraits was a nice touch although we didn't purchase and they didn't even offer pricing, just showed us the prints in frames. Happy V Day!

Yelp
such a SOULfood experience! it started off rocky as we arrived for our reservation right on time and there was about a 25min wait after check in. as I was glancing around i peeped 3 open tables. praying, hoping and wishing that we didn't get seated right at the entrance, we did. a party came in right after us and got seated before us at a desired table. hear me out, it was a packed house and there was a line to get in, the entrance was overcrowded and sitting right next to it was less than appealing as people are walking in and out right next to your food/drinks. damn near rubbing elbows with customers. we asked to get moved around and it appeared that management really did try, so I couldn't be mad when the ultimate answer was no. just wish we could have been seated as soon as we arrived and definitely before the party after us walked in. DJ was poppin and played all the jams from hip hop to rnb and oldies. people were dancing singing and enjoying company. I don't recall one person being on their phones - even though it's hard to hear one another, everyone's engaging. It gives backyard bbq vibes. I ordered the catfish over grits with cheesy eggs on the side. Everything was fresh and great quality. Fish was flaky and crisp on the outside. the mimosas were strong and the tower did what it needed to do.

Yelp
The food was so good I put my phone down. The coffee was perfect, the biscuits fluffy, the eggs cooked exactly right, and the pulled pork was divine. Service was on point without being intrusive. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
Wife and I were visiting the state and first time we tried to come was on the weekend, they did not allow take out on weekends. The restaurant is packed on weekends and it is pretty much reservation only, the wait was going to be an hour and a half. We came back during the week and had the brisket and biscuits. Very good, best biscuits I have had in a long time! Music was much lower than during the weekend. Much appreciated :) at the time we came there was only one server and things were very slow...

Yelp
This establishment was nothing like what I expected it to be, but it was everything that it needed to be!! If you are ever visiting Scottsdale, you MUST make a reservation and eat here for weekend brunch. (We made the mistake of not making a reservation and were required to sit outside.) No complaints come to mind about this restaurant.. The food was seasoned to perfection and flavorful. The service was amazingly fast. And the ambiance was perfect - music wasn't too loud. Definitely a highlight of our girl's trip!
