Sugo - Review - Karlín - Prague - The Infatuation

"If you’re visiting Prague, you probably didn’t come here to eat Italian food. But you may want to make an exception for Sugo, a new-ish pasta palace with a minimalist, sunny interior. Since they first fired up the burners, locals have been gravitating here with great frequency. Unpretentious and casual, Sugo serves pasta dishes that appear simple on the surface but are rich in flavor. Let’s take one of the signatures: You’ve got spaghetti that’s layered with a flavor strata of lemon to give it a hint of acidity, and then comes the'nduja for a burst of umami and then—seemingly improbable—the slight taste of honey. It’s a delight. But save room, because the tiramisu is worth your stomach space, too." - David Farley

We went without a reservation, and the place was full, but the staff made an effort to find us a table within a few minutes. They offer a couple of vegetarian options, though in a pasta restaurant I was hoping to find a few more, even simple dishes like aglio e olio. We ordered both vegetarian dishes: Rigatoni alla Norma and Fusilli with spinach pesto. The Rigatoni alla Norma was excellent, but the Fusilli with spinach pesto felt a bit plain and repetitive. We also ordered the starter Burrata, bruschetta al pomodoro, which, despite being a simple dish, was surprisingly good. The service was fast and attentive, and overall it was a great experience and we will likely return. I just hope to see more and better vegetarian options in the future, and it would be a nice touch to have the vegetarian dishes marked with a "V" on the menu.

I’m here from Toronto, the staff was accommodating with English very nice and attentive. Pasta was excellent and so were the negroni’s. (Plural)

Alright, you should come here for food. Not for chat, not for drinks but for food. The food is good and portions are generous. Best focaccia in town. Cons are: too loud and all glassware is small…. Like small. I genuinely don’t like when I pay a full price for an aperol spritz and it comes in baby size. It’s a busy place so most probably you will have to wait for someone to take your order and then cook it.

The menu was quite limited, and for an Italian restaurant, there are definitely better options with more variety just a short walk away. While the venue has a playful and vibrant atmosphere, it didn’t really align with the style of food or the mood of the staff. Unfortunately, the service felt disengaged, and the dishes came across as more style over substance than genuinely satisfying. The Bolognese was enjoyable, but overall, given the prices, the experience didn’t quite live up to expectations.

I was surprised by the average rating on Google, because the photos of the dishes and the menu looked very promising, so I decided to try it myself. The pasta with nduja and honey was excellent, and the tiramisu was also of a very high standard. Highly recommended!

The restaurant is very nice, with lots of seating and a good menu. There are only a few options, so you won't be overwhelmed. We ordered the pasta with meat sauce and the pasta with pork cheek and peas, both of which were delicious. The ragu had lots of beef in it, and the pork cheek dish was served with lots of Parmesan cheese. The staff were friendly.

Original place, interesting plating, good music, delicious meals. Had veggie mac&cheese (original approach of preparation, a bit spicy) and tiramisu (total yum). Reservation recommended.

The Italian food was excellent, although I’m not entirely sure it was worth the price. What was definitely missing, however, was the authentic Italian atmosphere. Everything felt rushed – including the service – and the tables reminded me more of a school cafeteria than a cozy restaurant. We ended up leaving after just an hour, even though we had planned to enjoy a nice evening together.
