I'm a bit late on writing this review! I've been to Lieb's Oregon Road location at least a dozen times and their Mattituck location at least six times. They've become a recent favorite of mine for a variety of reasons. First, Alicia and her team do a fantastic job of making you feel very welcomed, second, they are knowledgeable of the wines that they carry (along with other grape varieties and wines from the region), and third, the prices are quite fair both for tastings and full bottles. Especially in a region where I constantly hear complaints from folks about the wines generally being "Too expensive" and "Why would I buy Long Island wine when I can go buy xyz Malbec from Mendoza for $7."
Anyway, here's the 411...
My favorites include:
+ Their Blanc de Blanc sparkling is fantastic and a great start for me (my tasting experience) as well as a great ending! It's the rare 100% Pinot Blanc and not 100% Chardonnay (which most would expect due to their knowledge Champagne region labeling etc)
+ Their 2010 Cab Franc is fantastic, drinking well now but I think can get even better with some age (2-3 years?)
+ Their 2007 Reserve Meritage is my favorite wine of theirs and features 4 of the 5 Bordeaux grape varieties. It doesn't feature Petit Verdot, rather Syrah (a few % pts) and imparts a different flavor on the wine which I do enjoy. Again, it's nice to have a winery produce a blend with a different grape variety or 2 (different from what other wineries on LI are doing with their blends)
Oregon Road Location:
+ It's set in sort of an industrial warehouse (which is quite large) and features a very large indoor lounge, a private sectioned off wine room with a very large table to seat a large party/group
+ Their outdoor area is very large as well (in the front) with fire pits! They also have fantastic sunset views in the afternoon/evening...
- The only negative for me is that due to the popularity of Lieb and this location, it can get quite busy...so get there early
Other Location:
+ Their Mattituck location on Cox Neck Road is nice but a bit more "No frills" and definitely much smaller. You can take a glass and sit outside under the trees on the picnic benches which is nice as well
