Three New Restaurants Just Opened at Cavallo Point Resort, Below the Golden Gate Bridge - Eater SF

"At Sula, formerly Murray Circle, the approach is more refined, focusing on small plates and dishes that complement Champagne. At Sula, for example, Fort Bragg-sourced petrale sole, topped with mussels and roe, riffs on classic San Francisco cioppino. As a kid, Garcia would sell cioppino as part of school fundraisers — so it’s one of those little nods to his youth. “You’re getting the smoky tomato broth with the sole, a little influence of the old school,” Garcia says." - Paolo Bicchieri

We didn't have any expectations here, but food was great! Good salad, hearty good sized mains and great desserts. Didn't try their cocktails, but seemed nice. They had a very good selection of non-alcoholic drinks menu

Andrea Santos

Google
sula would’ve been a solid 4 star restaurant with great appetizers and cocktails but the mains missed so hard we couldn’t finish them. breakfast was decent but too pricy. ambiance was rustic and classy, without the pretentiousness. overall, would come back strictly for cocktails and apps but hard skip otherwise. smoky cocktail: forget the name but loved the smokiness, bitterness and mouthfee dinner house rolls: just under top tier status, solid and would recommend. yams: amazing texture and flavor, must try. miso halibut: terrible - overcooked, dry, and flavorless breakfast autumn salad: delicious, refreshing avocado toast: skip, too many toppings that didn’t pair well. could barely taste the avocado cinnamon apple french toast: well made sweet breakfast item, recommend!

This place is beautiful and has great food and drinks. And the service is excellent! The only downside is that it is expensive

We stayed at the Cavallo Point lodge at the end of April and dined at Sula. We had family dining with us who had some dietary restrictions and we were gladly accommodated. The ambiance was beautiful and our server was amazing. We had already dined at the other hotel restaurant Farley and had a wonderful experience so we expected and experienced the same at Sula. Everything was presented beautifully. The standout dishes were the crab cake, sunchokes, ribs, casarecce pasta and dessert. Be sure to take a walk out to the water to enjoy the beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge after dining, amazing!

Google
I don't give too many 5 star reviews. Definitely deserves the rating on all levels. Location, food presentation, food flavor, drink options. Craft drinks are amazing. The price isn't terrible for the location. I love stopping at the lodge area anytime I am near.

Google
Quite legit. Cocktails and menu had a little something for everyone no matter what your in the mood for. Shout out to Fallyn for the spectacular service. Cheers!

Google
Great option for those who are looking for a way to step outside San Francisco. It’s quiet, relaxing, and the food is outstanding!! BONUS: The view of the Golden Gate Bridge at night. We sat out on the porch with heat lamps and lap blankets.

Max Kay

Google
It's an American fusion restaurant with great variety of cuisine and drinks. Full bar. Amazing views to Golden Gate Bridge and hills. Delicious, fresh and well portioned plates. Inside and outdoor seating. There are two side by side restaurants and OK if you cross order. Not sure if accessible given some stairs. Street parking available. Good for couples, date night, small group and meetup.

Yelp
My family decided to take my brother here for his birthday because Sula is one of his favorite restaurants. I had not experienced Sula but am SO glad I got to! The setting is beautiful, the restaurant is an architectural and interior design delight, and the food is uniquely amazing. My four year old nephew and I were greeted by kind, friendly staff upon entering the front foyer. My Mom, brother, and sister-in-law enjoyed looking at the grounds and lighting while walking in behind us. Soon after we were seated, our waiter came over with crayons and a children's menu that contained a maze and animals to color on the back. My nephew loved it! We all enjoyed our meal. The little guy had chicken fingers and fries, saying that he liked the crispy-ness. I had the spaghetti squash dish which had the most delicious and uniquely flavored sauce. My Mom and brother had the pasta dish called "Casarecce and Burrata" which they said was flavorful. My sister-in-law combined the Blue Crab Cake with a salad which she said was delish. The Parker rolls complimented it all. And for dessert, I dove into the chocolate layered cake, my sister-in-law had tasty macarons, and my nephew ate up vanilla ice cream. We had a wonderful Tuesday night dinner experience at Sula and look forward to our return visit soon!

Yelp
Looking for a restaurant with great service, delicious food and wonderful views? Look no further, Sula is all of the above and more. After your meal here, be sure to take a walk along the grounds to the pier where families are fishing and catching crabs or walk along the shoreline to admire the bridge. There is also access to the Golden Gate Bridge from the walkway. Parking is easy, either valet or in a dirt lot close to the children's museum and the coast guard headquarters. We were seated quickly by a friendly server and ordered an oat milk latte, crab cake, a side of chicken sausage and the bacon and mushroom scramble. All arrived quickly and were absolutely delicious! We would definitely order it all again, no doubt. Prices are reasonable for all the food we received and well worth it. We highly recommend a stop here for a meal, as the menu has something for everyone! Enjoy!

Yelp
Really great spot, very very pretty restaurant and great ambiance, dim lighting, great space for a date or a dinner gathering. Service was teriffic, everyone was super friendly and accommodating with our toddler. Our server took care of us very well. Food was served efficiently. Food was superb ordered oysters, lobster mac and cheese, pumpkin soup, salmon, and lamb chops. Everything was seasoned well and are portioned out quite well. Definitely coming back again, great experience

Yelp
I recommend this restaurant, we tried it on valentines and had such a wonderful experience. The drive there itself was breathtaking. We reserved a outside seating and were given a seat right in front of the golden gate bridge with a beautiful view , the restaurant itself was very quite and relaxing atmosphere. The workers were all super friendly, attentive. The only con was the menu was was very limited here but still really nice beautiful place to check out !!

Yelp
The former location of Murray Circle, the main restaurant at the Cavallo Point Resort. It's taken on more of an Asian flair in aesthetic and design, yet still retains the woodsy lodge feel to it. This place is always a cozy, comfortable place for a casual meal. I came here for brunch, meeting a friend, and was immediately seated with a reservation. At noon on a Sunday it wasn't all that crowded. We got a nice banquet in the back of the place and it was quite pleasant for conversation. The menu is quite good, and several interesting choices. I decided to try the seasonal frittata with butternut squash. It was quite good, like a flat pancake of good ingredients. The taste and flavor was right on target. For some strange reason it seemed to loose flavor and became less enjoyable as it cooled, somewhat bland. Even so, it was enjoyable enough overall. I also got an iced tea which was good enough, with a fresh lemon wedge. Service was professional and helpful, not at all rushed. I enjoy this place and if you happen to be nearby it is a bit off the beaten path, yet worth the visit. Prices are fair.

Yelp
The value proposition for dinner at Sula is shameful. They should be ashamed and embarrassed. The food was ok but not great. A dinner for 4 people with two glasses of wine and two cups of coffee shouldn't cost $600. If the meal had been $300 it would still have been expensive. The food was not $124 person good. Never ever again. There was a 20% mandatory tip which was noted on the menu but then there was an additional 4% culinary charge. If the charge is fixed then simply add to the advertised price. As I understand the laws there additional charge need to be disclosed in advance. Here the 4% was not. The service was ok but not 24% tip great. The rolls arrived after the salad had already been cleared. The butter rock hard and unspreadable. Average food at exorbitant prices. No thank you.

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner at Sula. The miso Cesar salad, salted yams, steak and tuna tartar were great and it's a beautiful historic location. Good drinks selection

Yelp
Rudy our server was 100000/10, an overall amazing man and kind soul. He went above and beyond to make my boyfriend's birthday dinner a wonderful night. The restaurant itself is a little hard to find but has a lot of market lights so that makes it easier to pinpoint if you're coming for dinner. When you walk in, there are 2 restaurants and a host stand for both -- Sula is on the right. Their ambiance is beautiful and has a very artdeco feel to it, low-light is their game. I can imagine this place having a wonderful view of GGB in the day. The food itself did not blow us away and hence the 4/5 stars, we were impressed by the presentation but unsure if the flavors matched and sometimes thought the flavor lacked entirely. Apps: Ahi tartare: 9/10 Best app we got and the ahi itself was very good but the soba noodles they were nested on top of (part of playing we understand) were only okay Yams: 8/10 Great tasting and loved the crunch but some of the yams were not fully cooked and left us crunching away Rolls: 7/10 Not as good as expected as we see it's one of the most popular things on the menu -- Prospect in Rincon Hill has better version of this exact menu item Entrees: Duck: 8/10 Really good but portion is extremely small, not sure why there was brussel sprouts paired with it? Glass noodles: 8/10 For being a vegan dish, it was excellent tasting and surprisingly better than the duck we thought! We didn't get a chance to try dessert but we think that their dessert would be 10/10 from what we saw. Thank you Rudy for a wonderful night!

Yelp
We went to Sula for our anniversary and we had such a good time here! All the server and the host were super nice and truly welcoming. They really want my husband and me to have a good time for our anniversary and we very much enjoyed their service. The foods were tasty and their price was very reasonable for what they provided us. All the dishes had enough portion and cooked perfectly. The restaurant is located in a private area so it was quiet and nice. They had both valet and self parking and it wasn't hard to find a spot. The interior was modern and clean and very spacious for each table. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends for their special days. Very appreciate for their warm welcoming and great service!

Yelp
We came here for brunch and it was a great experience! I made reservations ahead of time thinking I was booking a table at Farley's. There was a recent change with Farleys only taking walk-ins and Sula offers reservations and serves a full menu. Sula is beautiful - love the modern, mid-century design. We had a table near the fireplace - comfortable seating and a large table to hold several dishes. They have a good menu selection of both breakfast and lunch. We asked our server what he'd recommend; what were the popular dishes, boy, he knew his stuff! The huevos rancheros and their mixed country line salad were a hit in our group! The umami fries were delicious and I loved their bacon - super crispy! The only disappointment was their Ahi Tuna Poke - prepared with gojujang, mirin, and ponzu sauce. I'm Korean - I'm all for gojujang but this mix was left to be desired. I only had one bite - it did not sit well with me. The restaurant at Cavallo Point is in a beautiful location. Such a great place to check out when the sun is out! Walk around the vicinity and take pics of the bay bridge! We will be back!

Yelp
Sula offers an incredible date night with its mid century setting and access to amazing views of the golden gate. A delightful culinary experience with the Smoking Katana cocktail, a sweet and smoky twist on the classic old fashioned. The Old Fashioned itself is a well-blended cocktail of whiskey and orange. The Parker Rolls and Pomegranate Pork Belly were our two favorites. The Parker Rolls, flawlessly balanced with sesame and sea salt, are a buttery delight and super fluffy. The Pomegranate Pork Belly delivers a burst of sweetness and perfectly cooked meat. The Pan Roasted Duck Breast, accompanied by a flavorful pistou, parsnip, and sweet pear, is a great blend of flavor, though the duck breast was on the drier side. With its combination of flavors and intimate ambiance, Sula is an excellent choice for a romantic date night followed by a stroll.

Yelp
My dish was excellent and drinks were great. The ambiance is really nice supporting the hotel facilities. Service was a little slow for how empty the place was but overall good experience

Yelp
We visited Cavallo Point Lodge for a quick weekend trip and were blown away! Usually the on premises restaurants at a nice hotel is either over-priced, under-delivers, or comes off as just average given guests have no choice but to dine there. Not so with Sula -- the service was prompt but also let us have plenty of time to enjoy our meal. If you don't mind sitting outside under heaters, the Golden Gate view is pristine. The food is a no hassles Californian spread from local farmers, with a menu of very solid dishes. The bread rolls, crab cakes, burrata and burgers were all excellent. They also have a full list of non alcoholic drink options.

Yelp
Completely satisfying and wonderful. Beautiful presentation, homemade pasta with short ribs, crab cakes, oysters. Finished off with the best dark chocolate cake. Waitstaff was perfection. Major kudos to the chef.

Yelp
Great location , stunning views of Sf bay. Loved the history of Fort Baker . Lunch very good . The star of our adventure was sitting outside on the veranda enjoying the view . Desert was the true star of the day. Thank you

Yelp
My friend brought me here for my birthday dinner and it was fabulous! We walked in and were greeted by the hostess. We were asked if we would like to sit indoor or outdoor. Although it was chilly, my friend chose outdoor. They had heaters and offered me a blanket too, which was nice. The service and food were spectacular. We ordered the chicken and watermelon salad to share, which was amazing! I ordered the catch of the day, which was wild salmon. To finish, we had the peach cobbler and they brought out a surprise birthday dessert. Everything was fabulous and I would definitely return.

Yelp
Happy 8th year Anniversary to us! WOW did he do a great job! This place is definitely a hidden gem. Drinks: Shirley temple Viansa- if you don't like dry sparkling wine this won't be for you. To be honest this was the cheapest one and I wanted to have a fancy drink to raise a toast in :) For appetizers we ordered the following: House Made Parker Rolls: There are four rolls and a side of Sweet Cream Butter and Lavendar Sea Salt. The rolls were so fluffy and so delicious. Sweet Potato Dumplings: Coconut Yogurt, Mint Chutney, Harissa, Hazelnut, Cilantro. Since my boyfriend has a tree nut allergy we asked for the hazelnut to me removed. The dumplings were so good! The coconut yogurt was a great pairing. For our Entree we ordered the following: Seared Scallops: Sweet corn congee, Maitake, Asparagus, Sugar peas, chili oil. Wow the scallops were cooked perfectly! Everything in the dish went perfectly together. I would definitely order this dish again. Niman Ranch Beef Filet: Brandied Morel Cream, Umami Fingerlings, Asparagus, Bone Marrow Butter. My boyfriend loved his dish. I would recommend getting at least one or two appetizers before your dish. The dishes are decent sizes but if you come hungry the appetizers help make you a little bit more full. This a great place to celebrate anything. It's close to the Golden Gate Bridge and is a great place to take a picture before or after dinner.

JA M.

Yelp
Have dined here many times and always had a great experience! First of all the majestic Golden Gate Bridge is right there to feast your eyes on. There are sailboats in the bay when it's daylight I love you can't be more exquisite. Then the service is impeccable and the food is delicious. A very special place to go at any time!
google avatar

Morgan P.

Yelp
Service was great, food was great, cocktails even better. We dined here as part of a private party and the room we were seated in was extremely cramped for the 12 of us- had our seating been a bit more comfortable I would've gone five stars.
google avatar

Yelp
I dined at Sula December 1st, 2024 and became very ill thereafter with food poisoning for a week. One of my colleagues required emergency care for intractable nausea and vomiting. When I called the restaurant, they confirmed they had served contaminated oysters localized to a farm in Canada. The restaurant reported multiple other diners had fallen ill after eating oysters. On the phone, they offered to refund the meal, but offered no other remedy for medical expenses or wage loss despite admitting that they were the source of the food-borne illness outbreak. They did not respond to my follow up email. The restaurant reviews from this time period suggest other diners also experienced food poisoning, likewise with little to no follow up. Clearly, they do not take their customers' health or safety seriously.

Yelp
(A little over) a year later, and Sula is still a hit! We were seated promptly for our reservation one day after Valentine's Day ( we are cheap and Sula doesn't open on Wednesdays) my partner and I got our usual drinks (royal blush and Death and Taxes on tap) had the oysters to start, then I did the special of the day, surf and turf, and he the black garlic hanger steak. Both were amazing! We finished with some sorbet to and the maple baba which was delicious. The service is always warm and knowledgeable. Sula is a true gem of an experience!

Yelp
We came here on a whim to eat with friends. They were able to seat us in an area that accommodated both strollers in our party and even brought in a second table to accommodate our food. We really couldn't have had a better experience with two kiddos and strollers in tow. One baby grabbed a bowl full of soup and flipped it over. The staff didn't flinch, they were there to help us clean, get new napkins, and five minutes later had another soup fired for my friend. My kiddo was screaming and we had to walk him outside several times. The hostesses were still very kind despite the number of times they saw us walk in and out. Service was phenomenal. The food was on point too. F O O D Onion Truffle Dip - Not too much onion. It was just the right amount and enough dip for more crackers. Osso Busco - Good flavor for the risotto and the meat had a nice contrast with a crunch on top. The meat was tender enough for my baby to eat. Bellino - Yay for a non-alcoholic selection of drinks. This drink was not overpowering and had just the right amount of bubbles to the other ingredients.

Yelp
Came here after watching the Blue Angels. This area is really quiet, family, friendly, and on a nice day, you have a nice view of the bridge but also, we were lucky to see what looked like a waterfall cloud slowly draping over the mountain tops. It was epic. Anyway, back to Sula. Arancini - it was my friend's first time trying this and sadly, he was not impressed. The friend rice balls were bland and dry, whomp whomp Corn Soup(?) - we ordered two of these bad boys because I wasn't too hungry and a bowl of soup always warms the tummy. This was velvety smooth and delicious Fries - delicious, crispy, cant go wrong. Ever. Food was good, service was great.
google avatar

Yelp
Flavorful, courteous service, and well lit/decorated. My wife and I celebrated her birthday at Cavallo point, and dinner was unequivocally a highlight. Our server, Rudy, was especially welcoming and kind. He made some solid recommendations, including the petrale sole and toffee cake, which did not disappoint. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
Still stand by this review. What a great place! If I went to Paris and bought a car that could fly I would come here after getting gas. I would be dressed to the 10's!

Yelp
Last week, I suffered a serious case of food poisoning at Sula. I ordered Portabella mushroom sandwich, Caesar salad and Aki Poke. I suffered bouts of vomiting, diarrhea and dizziness. I missed 2 days of work. When I called I was referred to Lissette Quiroz, who asked me if I had eaten anything after my meal or saw a medical specialist. I answered I had not. She then offered a complimentary meal, which I declined and asked to be compensated for my meal. She did not respond to this, nor to 3 more emails. Lissette has since responded and has taken care of this matter to my satisfaction.
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely setting, good service. Food looked great but was bland. I had crab pappardelle - less pasta would have enabled the shredded crab to shine through - and my friend had glass noodles. No excuse for tomatoes and melons in the salad not to be spectacular this time of year - they were okay. Hope the flavors catch up with the looks of the food soon.

michelle l.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! Spent Labor Day lunch at Sula and were blown away by the dishes, service, decor and hotel staffs. Hubby and I both had the special crab Benedict and wow is an understatement. My son had the steak and fries and finished the whole plate. We shared a chocolate pie and just loved that it's not too sweet. How didn't it get an above 4 rating is just a mystery to us. Pls keep the reservation system - it made last min trip much more enjoyable.

julia ..

Yelp
Horrific food poisoning after eating here. I went with friends and all of us were violently ill after eating brunch here. I see others who have had the same experience. The restaurant confirmed that they had unknowingly served contaminated food.

Yelp
Wow, what an incredible fine dining experience. First time at Sula after it's reincarnation from Murray Circle, and had just a thoroughly wonderful time. It was a perfect night out from beginning to end. The ambience and decor are elegant and warm-- feels like stepping into a design magazine. Staff was super attentive and friendly. Our server, Francisco, was knowledgeable and really made us feel cared for. As as example of the gracious service, I was having trouble reading the menu with my new contact lenses, and magically a pair of reading glasses appeared at the table! Cocktails were fantastic, we had the Royal Blush, Smoking Katana, and The Twist-- all complex and tasty. The meal was SPECTACULAR (haha, yes, all caps). We had the Charred Monterey Octopus appetizer, followed by Pan-Seared Scallops and Grilled Sonoma Quail as the mains. Everything was sublime in execution, just exquisitely presented and bursting with flavor. Great dessert options-- we had the fantastic Ginger Creme Caramel to bookend the evening. I'm not exaggerating when I say that Sula is the best new restaurant in Marin in years. The perfect place for date nights and special occasions, or just a nice meal out in a scenic location. Honestly, the most extraordinary fine dining experience I've had in a long while. Bravo to the whole crew at Sula! Looking forward to many returns.

Jeff S.

Yelp
Went to thanksgiving meal and got food poisenting. Reached out to the hotel and got a canned email with no explanation and no refund of the $175 per person. Its sad because its located at a 5 star hotel but the restaurant has no accountability.

Yelp
Great ambience-- it can very well be featured in Architectural Digest. Food was great and the service was exceptional. Beet & satsuma salad- 9/10 Parker rolls- 10/10 (wow) Lamb chops- 10/10 (juicy) Petrale sole- 10/10 (delicate) Beef fillet -8/10 (little tough for medium rare) Dungeness crab pappardelle- 10/10 (creamy)

Yelp
Our server was likable and tried. The food was a disaster, both in concept and execution. Because we sent our entrees back, we tried four entrees...unfortunately none warrented a return visit to Sula. Glass noodles had a flavor a consistency similar to boxed noodles, the eggplant was hillariously rubbery and visually unapealing. I could go on about the dungenous bisque, the macademia encrusted sole, the "pan seared", but not seared scallops. Put simply, the worst dinner we have had in recent history. The good news was that it was so bad, we at least had a number of laughs...on my wife's birthday.
google avatar

robbie l.

Yelp
Pre Covid I said I would never come here...service is awful and food isn't worth it to drive over. I'm sorry I came back. I made reservations or more accurately left a message for reservations about a month ago for Sula but only able to reach Farley bar. Person called back confirmed reservations at Sula. Day before the reservation person calls to confirm gets the time wrong. Show up at restaurant reservations are for the Farley bar. Told them we wanted to eat at Sula...snotty and rude hostess says you know that's fine dining? Wtf? Finally seated in the Sula dining room. Food was fine...nothing outstanding. Go to get car from valet. No valet around...go into hotel front desk ask for the valet...she radios someone who says the car will be out in 5 minutes. 30 minutes later the car arrives! Wtf? Disorganized, lack of service and rude staff. Will never go back.

Yelp
What a hidden gem in the Bay Area! Beautiful decor, amazing views, and Dinah our server was top notch! Dinah made us feel welcome, helped us select some amazing wines, and even brought us an "off the menu" salmon dish. Can't wait to come back again!

Yelp
We had a wonderful dinner at Sula. They put an interesting twist to the traditional Mediterranean cuisine and did it beautifully. We started with the tomato and summer melon salad and a potato inspired soup and had the lamb chop and sole as main course with addition of grilled broccolini. All fabulous. The dinner service was smooth, and the the staff were pleasant and courteous. It was a bit loud for us, but we were able to adjust our seats to have a nice conversation.

Oh C.

Yelp
Service was excellent!! Prices are high here but the food was yummy and we were ok with it since we had never been there before. Got the Caesar, the Parker house rolls, some burgers and steak sandwiches and crab cakes. Everything was delectable. Love the decor and the resort itself is a whole mood! Will be back!

Yelp
Loungey spot that is sophisticated, but cozy! Very appealing to hang out here on a wintery evening to enjoy some bar bites and drinks. The fireplace adds such a nice touch to the area giving it class and personality. The dishes are creative and offer a wide variety of flavors! Limited menu, hoping they expand. Looking forward to going back and trying more items!

Romo S.

Yelp
It is a very nice place, service to match and view from the north side of the golden gate is special too. The entrees were good. But the menu is limited and more experimental than anticipated. This goes for the entrees to the drinks to the desserts. Difficult to find the typical hit the spot recipes and tastes I and I think most people look for at a restaurant that came to ~$100 a person after tax and tip.
google avatar

Yelp
went there in Christmas. wow that was one of the worst and most expensive meals I've had in marin since moving here 14 years ago. Boullaiaise had no broth and sea food did not taste good. "Lobster" ravioli tasted identical the "cheese" ravioli both of which tasted like squash, neither of which tasted like cheese or ravioli. $240 later very disappointed.

Yelp
yall waited over an hr for my food #nothungryanymore people watching was good because the demographic is just "crackhead" but food takes too long and girl it ain't even busy...:

Yelp
my wife and i went for her birthday, employee weren't open to taking orders. it seems that employees are having too much fun talking with each other to service customers. tables were very marked up with cup marks. really looked bad. what's wrong with this place. it charges alot of money but no one is managing there employees. the food was not good either.

Brigida N.

Yelp
It's our first time coming to Cavallo Point and we needed a place to celebrate my Birthday Easter and my son booked Sula. The service was great, there were few of them attending to us since we were a big group. We had a brunch family style. they put together the food for us except for the main course. The selections were really good and they did serve a lot. The only thing was, we were kinda crump on one big table. I wish we had a bigger table.
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
We had an OK dinner experience at Sula. We had higher expectations and were, unfortunately, a bit disappointed. At the outset, they had us wait over 35min for a table past our reservation time. We ordered drinks at the lounge area while we waited, and the drinks never came. Once seated, our waiter was very nice and the manager apologetic. Dishes showed up promptly. Yet, the food itself was hit or miss. The potato dumplings were too doughy and heavy. The glass noodles were bland. The potato soup and the scallops got better reviews. Dessert was good. We had dinner at Farleys next door the previous night and thought that the experience overall was a lot better there.
google avatar

Michelle R.

Yelp
Ambience and location were great. When we arrived the hostess said "we have a few overstaying their welcome so we are behind on reservations", come to find out once we were seated the service slow which could better explain why they were behind. We were very underwhelmed with the food. The steak entree was great however the crab pappardelle had minimal crab and little flavor. Glad we went to experience it but likely won't return.

Yelp
Disappointing is the best way to describe last night's dinner at Sula. We've lived in Sausalito for 20 years and have seen many restaurants come and go from Cavallo. After reading some nice reviews we decided to give Sula a try. From start to finish a group of four of us found nearly every dish to be over salted, overcooked, or just blah and nothing memorable. Octopus which supposedly had received great reviews elsewhere was almost inedible. So over salted and almost inedible. Duck was gamey and chewy. Not prepared well at all. A couple salads were ok but nothing we'd go back for or recommend. Really hope management makes some changes - we love the venue and could be such a vibey spot but just not worth going back to as is.....

Yelp
The food is mostly tasty. On the fancier side with small plates and maybe a couple more random/fancy ingredients that are there more for show than flavor. Scallop dinner and sole dinner were both very good and we ate every last bite. Loved the hamachi and crab salad appetizers as well. Couldn't get past the aroma of the truffle appetizer to try it, but those who ate it said it was bland and felt bad asking for salt in a nice establishment. Very attentive and polite service and had not one complaint about our server. Also had outstanding cocktails and a big list to choose from. The food was good, but not good enough to match the costs. We preferred the overall experience at the other restaurant on the hotel grounds. We aren't disappointed we ate here, but definitely a solid 3-3.5

Yelp
What a surprise to discover this killer little restaurant hidden in the cliffs around the Golden Gate Bridge. The area (Old Fort Baker) is phenomenal--definitely save time for a walk to the beach if you can, as the views of San Francisco are unbeatable. We were there for a date night, and the atmosphere was romantic. The dining rooms had a lovely mix of stylish nooks and mid-century furniture that made the large rooms feel cozy, and perfectly blended large and small groups. The mix of original architecture, modern design, and exquisite food left quite an impression on me. Outdoor seating had views of the Bay and City, and heaters at every table it seemed. These are my people! If I brought my kids, outside seating would be ideal--a bit of space, nice views, and no worrying about whether they are loud. The bar in the other end of the building is nice alternative if you are looking for a more casual version of the experience. The wait staff were next level attentive--in a way that you don't see much anymore. The menu was innovative and the dishes we ordered exceeded my expectations--even simple things like the octopus appetizer had layers of flavor exploding in every bite. Great seafood options. Overall, a must for lovers of fine dining. Try it out!
