I love Sump! When comparing all the lattes I have tried in St. Louis (even Chicago and New York), Sump's lattes are some of my favorites. The espresso is fresh, the milk is meticulously frothed, and their flavor combinations are a balance between innovative and classic. The lattes have a wonderfully smooth texture and are never too sweet. My go to latte is the Vanilla Rum Latte ($6). Today, however, I mixed it up and tried a lavender vanilla latte ($6). The lavender added an earthiness that balanced the sweetness of the vanilla syrup perfectly! I mainly stick with lattes at Sump but have also enjoyed their pourovers.
I have never had a negative experience with the team working at Sump. They are warm, welcoming, and kind. The wait for your order is standard: 5-10 minutes, depending on how busy it is at that time.
In terms of the ambiance, Sump embodies an alternative, hip vibe. Their branding includes skulls, and their interior design incorporates reclaimed wood accents. However, Sump has limited seating, and it is difficult to find seating during the day if you plan on sticking around. I have also studied at Sump a time or two, but it is not my go-to place to do so due to the limited seating.
All-in-all, Sump has some of the best coffee in St. Louis. Despite a somewhat crammed interior, Sump is a go-to spot for me to grab a latte!
