A South City original that brought third‑wave rigor to St. Louis, Sump is revered for meticulous roasting and multiple single‑origin espressos. Praised by Sprudge and routinely cited by local critics, it’s expanding its community footprint with a new roastery and education space in Old North. Hours posted remain active.

One of the best coffee shops I've ever been to. Best chocolate mint latte I've ever had. Whenever I'm not in STL, I feel nostalgic for their coffee. Excellent beans and great staff.

Google
Our family visited St. Louis for spring break and wanted to check out a local coffee spot. Holiday Inn coffee just wasn't cutting it. Sump Coffee had great friendly service, a cool environment, and great coffee!

Google
I've tried pour overs in Japan, I've tried making them myself, and I tried Sump's. Hands down the best is here. I prefer espresso and they serve good espresso as well.

Went to Sump coffee for the first time ordered cappuccino and iced coffee to go. Fast service was able to order from a kiosk. No outdoor seating. Available parking on street. Both drinks were tasty and quickly prepared and served. There is an option of getting the receipt emailed. Will definitely be going back for coffee soon. Recommend to friends and family. If you're looking for a good place for a coffee date, this is a place to go in St. Louis city.

Great spot to hang out, have a great cup of coffee and work. Plus the staff was very friendly and welcoming, I will be returning!

My Ethiopia Ayla Bombe espresso was served in a cute ceramic cup with mineral water and a spoon. It was bright and light, with a very fruity acidity. Body was decent, if not as heavy as I prefer. But a shorter pull would exaggerate the acidity, so this is probably perfectly done as-is.

While I call the sunny streets of Phoenix home, my visits to St. Louis always include a daily pilgrimage to Sump Coffee. Having explored countless local coffee shops in St Louis , I can confidently say that Sump stands head and shoulders above the rest. From the moment you step inside, you can tell that coffee here is a true passion, not just a commodity. The baristas are knowledgeable and clearly dedicated to their craft, always ready with a recommendation or a friendly chat about the latest brew. But the real star of the show is, of course, the coffee itself. Each cup I've had at Sump has been exceptional – rich, complex, and perfectly brewed. Whether I opt for a meticulously prepared pour-over or a expertly crafted espresso drink, the quality is consistently outstanding. You can taste the care and attention that goes into sourcing and roasting their beans. It's more than just the coffee, though. The atmosphere at Sump is inviting and conducive to both focused work and relaxed conversation. It's the kind of place where you feel comfortable lingering over your cup. For anyone visiting or living in St. Louis who appreciates truly exceptional coffee, Sump is an absolute must-visit. It has set the bar incredibly high for my coffee experiences, and I already look forward to my next visit!

Google
It’s the best espresso in St. Louis - no competition!! They roast all of their own beans, and the coffee selection is all unique and delicious (and always rotating!). You really can’t ask for more 🤷‍♂️

Yelp
Is there a way for something to be both well manicured and grunge? If there is, sump has perfected it. A south jefferson gem with some super solid coffee. A few exterior tables were filled with readers on a sunny sunday morning. The interior was full of friends, family, and the like sharing good conversation. I knew the coffee would be good because not 1 cup had any coffee left! The service was great. Workers were polite, friendly, and efficient. Definitely one of the better coffees i have had in stl as well. I did not realized i lived so close, this may become a problem! Lord help me!

Yelp
What a delight to have a specialty coffee shop in St. Louis! They roast single origin coffee beans locally. The decor is very cool and almost gallery like. It was also my first time seeing a Poursteady, too (an automatic pour-over coffee machine). Our orders: Colombia Gerson Mora (Natural) Pour Over ($8.75): notes of pink lemonade, pomelo, and papaya. It's super bright and layered. Chocolate Latte (Mocha) ($6.00): smooth, rich, not overly sweet -- really well done!

Yelp
Found this shop along our road trip route. Super cool building and shop. Was feeling something refreshing without milk. I got the Dark and Darker which is a cold brew mixed with a nitro cold brew. It hit the spot and it was very refreshing. The cafe inside is decorated really cool. A lot of attention to detail. There were some lattes I wanted to try! Next time though! Service was fast!

Yelp
Loved this for a quick pick up! The coffee was well balanced and they paid special attention to my food allergies, which is always appreciated!

Yelp
This coffee shop sits at the corner of a city intersection, small front patio with tables and chairs, being a shrub wall. Great spot. Inside the 1900 store front is a decor dripping with attitude. The service is excellent and the product is exceptional. Yes, meet here, sit, and/or read you will enjoy your choice.

Yelp
Hands down the best coffee and best coffee shop in St. Louis. The only thing that could make it better is if they opened a branch in my subdivision out in the county. I love the location. I love the staff. And the coffees roasted by Sump are some of the best I've ever had. I return to this location again and again.

Yelp
Coffee is good. Food quality is sub-part. If you overcook a Croissant, then don't serve it to your guests. Why would you do that? That's what did and on more than one occasion. 1) Don't serve inferior or burnt, blackened Croissants. That is completely BS! 2) Offer Small and large size coffee portions. 3) Purchase quality coffee Mugs with rim that doesn't allow Coffee to drip everywhere. You'll notice all the Counters have discoloration where Coffee drips have ruined the appearance. 4) Do better & sharpen your game. Overall, you have good coffee! You just need to employ staff that care about the details. Maybe the other locations are better? Thanks, KBM

Yelp
Have been coming to Sump for 4+ years. As a coffee connoisseur and who previously had some involvement in the artisan coffee business through a family venture many years ago, I've seen my fair share of coffee shops in St. Louis and I can certainly say that Sump is the best from everything I've seen. The quality, the level of attention to detail, and the passion they put in their coffee is next level. I hope they stay in business forever. By far the best coffee I've ever had anywhere
google avatar

Yelp
Fun interior decor and neat merch designs! Pretty standard coffee shop in terms of variety of beverages available, but I enjoyed their honey lavender latte. I would go again to sit and vibe, and try another coffee! The staff were nice.
google avatar

Alonzo A.

Yelp
Decent coffee spot. Interesting interior. Coffees from all over the world. Food options were good, had a muffin and the chocolate chip cookies with sea salt. Mistake was made with my order but the manager rectified it. Would stop by again to try the iced dirty chai.
google avatar

Tracy D.

Yelp
Great coffee. Lots of varieties to choose from. Inside smelled awesome! The staff was friendly and informative. Pour over coffee is a new experience for us and we will definitely be coming back for more
google avatar

Joon K.

Yelp
Best coffee spot in the area, hands down! Their espresso and craft drinks are exceptional. We loved it so much on our first visit that we had to return for one more caffeine fix before hitting the road. Perfect place to fuel up - definitely worth seeking out if you're serious about good coffee!

Yelp
I love Sump! When comparing all the lattes I have tried in St. Louis (even Chicago and New York), Sump's lattes are some of my favorites. The espresso is fresh, the milk is meticulously frothed, and their flavor combinations are a balance between innovative and classic. The lattes have a wonderfully smooth texture and are never too sweet. My go to latte is the Vanilla Rum Latte ($6). Today, however, I mixed it up and tried a lavender vanilla latte ($6). The lavender added an earthiness that balanced the sweetness of the vanilla syrup perfectly! I mainly stick with lattes at Sump but have also enjoyed their pourovers. I have never had a negative experience with the team working at Sump. They are warm, welcoming, and kind. The wait for your order is standard: 5-10 minutes, depending on how busy it is at that time. In terms of the ambiance, Sump embodies an alternative, hip vibe. Their branding includes skulls, and their interior design incorporates reclaimed wood accents. However, Sump has limited seating, and it is difficult to find seating during the day if you plan on sticking around. I have also studied at Sump a time or two, but it is not my go-to place to do so due to the limited seating. All-in-all, Sump has some of the best coffee in St. Louis. Despite a somewhat crammed interior, Sump is a go-to spot for me to grab a latte!
google avatar

Sara G.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee spots in St. Louis. This bustling coffee spot boasts a vibrant atmosphere with its skull decor and alternative vibe. Its hip! It's always packed! The single origin pour-over coffee delivers a fantastic caffeine fix. Locations in Saint Louis and Nashville and they will ship! Love this spot!
google avatar

Jensen W.

Yelp
If you haven't been to Sump coffee, you need to go! Sump is such a cool vibe inside & as soon as you walk in you see the window art. How neat! I tried their fall menu, I love it because it's nothing too sweet!! The Frittata sandwich is so big you could share it with someone. That largest egg I've ever seen on a Sammy. Service was good too & they were all so helpful!
google avatar

Almina Z.

Yelp
Found this spot randomly and I really liked the vibe and atmosphere we got two lattes and they were really good. Would be nice if they had utensils and sugar out instead of having to ask.
google avatar

Zach H.

Yelp
The best in St. Louis. Coffee lovers will know what's up. I got the seasonal garden latte it was made with love. The space is great and parking is easy. All the coffee here is amazing :)

Shai G.

Yelp
coffee was good, we got a caramel bourbon latte and a chocolate latte. The vibe of the coffee shop was really cute and staff was friendly. They also allow dogs or at least to order you can bring your dog in. Street parking but it was free
google avatar

Devin B.

Yelp
The vibes here are excellent and the coffee is too. I'm not a big coffee snob but I do like that their roasts are on the darker side and not too acidic/sour. The flavored lattes are also well-balanced and not too sweet like many places make them. They don't have much on the menu other than pastries but the one thing they do--the frittata sandwich--is probably the best breakfast sandwich I've had in St. Louis (and vegetarian!).

Yelp
I feel like you can feel the personable atmosphere whenever you walk into the place. From the ceramic cups they put your pour overs in, to the regulars coming in and the baristas knowing them by name. Lastly, the owner looks super cool, his beard is great, and he actually comes in to make sure his shop is ran efficiently. He also lends a hand and talks to his customers. I feel cozy in here, even though it is bustling. One of my favorite parts is the decor of the place. Black walls aren't really the norm but I love it so much. And the neon sign as soon as you walk in gives a nice accent to the dark walls. Coffee is amazing. I got a latte. So many machines to make your coffee or tea taste great. Will be coming back!

Yelp
First time trying Sump Coffee - heard great things about this coffee shop and they delivered. Tried both the Salted Maple Latte and the Honey Lavender Latte and both had the right balance of espresso with subtle yet distinctive flavors. When walking in, could smell their roastery that is at the back side of the building and the atmosphere was busy with plenty of space to get some work done. Employees were very personable and helpful. Loved my experience!
google avatar

Trevor M.

Yelp
I don't need to say much for this place. I've been here a few times and it is always consistently very good. It's my #1 place to recommend for creative and quality roasts to try. This was my first time trying their espresso, and it is equally good in its own way. I may be ordering it again. Also got a 4pack of cold brew to go and added chocolate milk at home, I like 30% milk to 70% cold brew ratio.
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Visiting from CO and this place came highly recommended. Great cold brew and a flavored iced latte. Pastries were good and so was atmosphere. Staff were friendly.

Emily J.

Yelp
May have been the best whole milk latte I have ever had. Great vibes! No skim milk option tho
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
They roast their coffee on premise. The coffee is of excellent quality! Most of the roasts are on the lighter side, like just after 1st crack though they have started providing some slightly darker roasts. The service is good and you can tell they care about coffee. The ambience is low key and very enjoyable. It's a nicely appointed place. The owner obviously cares about the environment and quality of their bean. I highly recommend Sump

Yelp
A girlfriend and I went here last week for a coffee date and we were so impressed! We sat on what they told us was their "new" patio out back and she had espresso and I had the honey lavender latte- iced. Both were so good and the patio's vibe was perfect! We went on a weekday during the day so it wasn't too crowded but there were quite a bit of people inside working or studying. To top it off, the one staff member we spoke to was extremely friendly and was trying to make conversation with us like he actually cared that we were there. So nice! It was all around a place I would go back to with friends or alone to get some work done with amazing coffee.
google avatar

Yelp
Charming little place in an old neighborhood. Coffee is expertly prepared and tasted great. They have all the top of the line equipment you expect from a good coffee shop.
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
Sump coffee is such a treat! I stopped in for some afternoon caffeine and the vanilla rum latte was so smooth and delicious I wanted to chug it.
google avatar

Spencer M.

Yelp
I know this is a huge staple of St. Louis, but I don't think it's very good coffee... It's the kind of coffee that has that really fruity flavor. I'm just not a fan of it.
google avatar

Marie H.

Yelp
The best cup of coffee in Saint Louis. There isn't really anything I don't like about this place. The branding is cool and kind of spooky in the best way. Their well-curated menu has a lot of great roasts, mostly on the darker side. They're not too pretentious though- there are lattes and other specialty drinks. They have also recently started making chocolate which is delicious, as are their baked goods and breakfast sandwich (which is vegetarian!). Everyone there is friendly and the vibe is so so cool.

Kristen W.

Yelp
I truly believe there is no better coffee in STL than Sump. I'm not into the sweet drinks most have but these are always light, easy to drink, and their drinks other than just a black coffee (which is perfect) are also really good. In the summer, coffee palmers are life. The service is also really good and even though there may be a long line, it moves quick. Patio is a nice hang and as a bonus, there's usually dogs to pet.
google avatar

Percy K.

Yelp
Sump coffee is a unique coffee shop located off Jefferson in south city. They are known for their in-house roasting and darker/stronger blend of coffee. The coffee tastes great and the latte art is always on point. Its pretty cool what they did with the building and restoring it from its run down days. There is a before picture on the wall. The only challenge is parking since it's on a Main Street, but if you don't mind parking across the street and walking, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Zachary C.

Yelp
Atmosphere was great. Interesting building and location. Coffee was superb. Had a latte and pour over. Understand their high ranking and it is deserved.

Steve H.

Yelp
Heard they had a good breakfast sandwich...They have a GREAT breakfast sandwich, easily the best in St Louis and one of the bests I have ever had in the country. Simple but unique, percect combo of flavors, couldn't ask for anytning more. Nice ambiance as well
google avatar

Katherine T.

Yelp
The coffee here is delicious! I tried the honey bunny latte and LOVED it. It's not insanely sweet which I appreciated, and you can really taste the subtle flavors of roasted honey, which I found addicting. I love the concept of the shop, and it's a great place to meet up with people!

Alicia P.

Yelp
Delicious latte!!! It was so smooth and the service was quick! Would definitely come again for a latte.

Katie B.

Yelp
Sump coffee has my heart! The Salted Maple Latte was to die for. They were fast at getting us our food and drinks as well.
google avatar

Katherine G.

Yelp
Get yourself to Sump already! Amazing coffee house with premier service and quality. I'm mostly a tea drinker, but their coffee is so good even a coffee skeptic can enjoy it. The matcha latte has ruined me so I rarely order it anywhere else. And if you're indecisive, they will guide you to the perfect drink.
google avatar

Katie K.

Yelp
Best. Coffee. In. Saint. Louis. Best coffee shop vibe. Kindest, and best dressed staff. I said what I said. Go see for yourself. Thank u next.
google avatar

Leslie H.

Yelp
What a gem of a coffee shop! This was on my daughter's to-try list, so we popped in on a Saturday early afternoon, and I'm so glad we did. It had a pleasant space on the corner of Jefferson Ave and Winnebago Street. A few tables are outside to the right of the front door. Upon stepping inside, we immediately felt at home. The barista took the time to explain the coffee choices and make some recommendations. We both settled on a chocolate latte: mine was iced, hers was hot. Mine was served in a mason jar with a stainless steel straw. Loved it!! They served us outside, where we enjoyed a pleasant afternoon.
google avatar

Audrey B.

Yelp
Take this one with a grain of salt because I am a tea person. Sump has some tea options but I just did not find them memorable. I thought menu items were a little overpriced. That said, my S.O. who likes coffee LOVES Sump and says they are the second best coffee in STL. He'll write his own review.
google avatar

Kelsey S.

Yelp
This coffee shop was the highlight of my trip to St. Louis. Their tonic coffee drink was the perfect summertime sipping drink. The people working there were also so extremely nice; they each went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our coffee pit-stop.
google avatar

Cody F.

Yelp
Excellent fits this experience. Everything about the lattes was perfect.. We also like the style of cups that they use. I appreciate a place that doesn't force everything in paper cups! Baristas/Employees were kind as well..
google avatar

Kevin V.

Yelp
This is a great place for coffee enthusiasts who love craft coffee! The place feels small and quaint and would be a great place to study or to meet up with someone. I got a black coffee which was super smooth and bright tasting. My wife got a bourbon caramel latte which was beautiful in presentation (see picture in review), and you can taste the hint of bourbon and caramel come through without being too sweet or overpowering (like many coffee shops often do with speciality lattes). Will definitely come again!

Jamie F.

Yelp
I had a chocolate croissant (delicious - definitely get it heated up) and a pumpkin spice latte (could have been more pumpkiny). Super cool environment, really loved the patio
google avatar

Jonathan F.

Yelp
mmmmm good... Love their coffee. I wa one of the first ones to visit when they opened and have been a client ever since. Their black coffee is perfect and lattes are awesome. Love the atmosphere and Carry is a true gentleman. Love this place, cleanest smoothest coffee ever!
google avatar

Zack G.

Yelp
Small coffee shop with an almost emo-vibe that is trying really hard to be cool. They don't offer any food and have only niche variety's of coffee. The coffee is good, don't get me wrong, but none of it is normal tasting and it is expensive. They also offer some unique coffee-drinks (in both hot and cold varieties) such as their espresso infused chai (which was delicious) 7.5/10
google avatar

Margaret T.

Yelp
I usually ring in fall by buying pumpkin spice everything. Basic or not, I have no shame. When I heard Sump had a PSL option, I knew I had to try it. I appreciate that it wasn't loaded down with sugar, like how Starbucks is, and I could still taste the espresso. It was a good balance of pumpkin and coffee. I would definitely come back and try other drinks! Drinks are a little pricer, but you get what you pay for in terms of quality. Service was quick, and they delivered our drinks to the table we were sitting at. The interior space was bigger than I thought it would be. Lighting is a little dim, so I probably wouldn't be able to study here, but it's a nice place to relax and catch up with friends.

Joseph E.

Yelp
Traditional coffee drinks with some signature creations that offer pleasingly subtle flavors. The attention to detail is amazing. Always new varieties to choose from. The baristas and the owners are outstanding. No other coffee house in STL does it this well.
