Sun City Caribbean & American Restaurant Better Food, Better Service

The food is good, and the flavors were enjoyable. However, the customer service could be more attentive and friendlier. A warmer, more engaging approach would really improve the overall experience. That said, Sun City Caribbean American Restaurant in Decatur, Georgia does serve good food, and with improved customer service, this place could be excellent.

I was in the area and my freind recommend this restaurant. I ordered the brown stew chicken. The flavor was great but instead of chicken I got big pieces of what taste like ginger!! I was so upset. I live to far too take it back. My macaroni and cheese was delicious!! Cabbage was good as well. However, Due to the lack of chicken I will not be going back. The cashier was Awesome!

Super sweet lady at the counter, great service. Food was delicious and had great prices. I enjoyed it a lot, I got the brown stew chicken and the flavor is absolutely amazing, chicken was soft and flavorful and the rice and peas were great. I would definitely come back thank you guys!

I ordered a large porridge, 2 chicken patties & 1 beef patty from door dash. When I got my order, I was missing my beef patty & the porridge spilt ALL OVER my bag. When I reached out to them they said they couldn’t do anything about it , they didn’t even want to replace it. I told them I would bring the bag back and send them a photo. The porridge wasn’t wrapped at all . Horrible customer service.

I literally just left…. 3 /10…. I got the jerk salad which was $13 for barely any chicken. The chicken pieces i was given were hard and barely any meat….. the jerk chicken plate 4/10… the jerk chicken isnt fresh… and the macaroni noodles are soggy like overcooked………… for $30 this was ridiculous

I got to say I really enjoyed my food. I was looking for something tasty, yet affordable and I said "Why not try this place". I saw they had a few vegan/vegetarian options so I wanted to give a try. I am glad I did. I ordered the Tofu Brown Stew Small ($8.00) and the Veggie Plate Small ($6.50). Also a veggie patty ($2.00) I was pleasantly surprised of the flavors bursting in that and I would definitely try again. I really enjoyed the tofu brown stew. The tofu was flavorful, not silky and had a nice chewable texture. The Plaintains was great. It was sweet combination to add with the rice and peas. Those are extra to get, because of the wait he gave them to me for free. Overall everything was great. You can't beat good food for this price. Definitely will come back again! Thanks!

I ordered the veggie rasta pasta and the jerk chicken. The pasta was excellent. It had cabbage or lettuce mixed within the pasta. I thought it was weird, but it was delicious. I'll definitely have it again. The jerk chicken w/ rice and peas was good, too.

I recently visited sun city which I have frequented quite often. This is not the first time I've had an issue with the food not being properly prepared but I've given them opportunities to correct it. This final time I contacted the restaurant and was informed by the owner that she doesn't care the fact that the oxtails were under cooked and that the Mac and cheese is always dry. After spending almost $60 for 2 meals she would replace one and not the extra for the Mac and cheese. I do not recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic Caribbean food. Customer service sucks also. NO REFUNDS NO RETURNS....... Re: After reading your response I feel as if you're saying this simply for the review I have. You clearly stated to me that you refuse to replace both meals and could only afford to replace one. If this was the first time I had an issue regarding the quality of your food I probably wouldn't have posted this but because it's the first time I addressed it with YOU I expected a better response then what you gave me. And to challenge me too write this review didn't help at all. Unfortunately you have lost my business permanently due to your lack of concern for my happiness. I again do not recommend this place to anyone looking quality food and service......

Food was hot a tasty, lived the oxtails and Mac! Service was fast and friendly. In and out, to-go style dining.

The food today was horrible. I ordered a large Jerk Chicken. Why was there all the backbone parts of thighs in my plate and a dry ass leg. The leg was so little I thought it was a wing.. I usually always get a Jamaican friend to get my food. The plates differ for anybody other than Jamaicans. The service was fast, I must admit. Going to haft-a stop payment unless they want to remake my plate..

Sun city is trult one of my favorites here in Atlanta as a Brooklyn Girl. I eat porridge from them at minimum once a week. They even inspire me to want to start making it again at home. Their food is always good as hell. And the people there are nice as hell and always willing to explain dishes and give you your food exactly how you want it. Which is rare. It's attached to the end of a gas station where the boys do a lot of illegal things... but they are the sunlight on the block. Park closest to their door... even if there isn't a parking spot. Just park close there. Meals to get: Cornmeal Porridge - small or large. It's sweet. Light and get 2 pieces of hard dough bread with it. Oats/Banana Oats/Peanut Oats porridge - this porridge is flavor heaven. Their Oats are so drinkable... same thing. Get it with hard dough bread. Calalloo and Saltfish: this meal is everything they use the RIGHT amount of pepper to give it a kick. I usually get mine with plantain and hard dough bread. Fried dumpling when bread isn't available. Lunch Fried Chicken meal: fried chicken (soo good and juicy) with rice and peas and oxtail gravy and salad. I love that they have salad as an option when you don't want cabbage. Stew Chicken: literally the same things as above sometimes with cabbage. The food here is authentic and so are the vibes. It's always worth it to stop in and spend money for Good ass jamaican food.

Ate here last night 4/8/25 for the first time. I was very impressed and I love the cozy feeling. The worker, she was very nice about helping me find my cell phone too. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS and I am a very picky person when it comes to food. Although I live pretty far, I will make it back there real soon. Couldn't post a pic of my Curry Chicken/Mac n Cheese/ Cabbage/ Rice and Beans, because I ate it up!

It was just my that I get to eat here. Someone told me to stop here sometimes I can't but I got lucky it was my lunch for my 30 min lunch it's all ready prepared and and the food is delicious definitely will return. Everyone was very nice and fast also. I got a lot for lunch to omg I'm in heaven.I love Jamaican food so it's a treat when it's authentic!!!

I visited this business today. I ordered, Brown Stew Shrimp & Curry Pepper Shrimp. Both w/ rice and peas and cabbage. Got no receipt... price on board for Curry Pepper Shrimp is $13; was charged $14 . Next music super loud in this small confined space; just turn down a tad please. And LAST, young lady in front taking orders and fixing them.. If she going to do both, some type of washing or sanitizing of the hands HAS to happen especially if she's going to be touching money & FOOD! BTW, she's DOES NOT give you a smile or THANK YOU for coming! Customer service is highly lack luster. I'm going to rate them with 2 stars bc the above is "Restaurant/Food Service 101" Will return with review of food...

Patties are pretty good here. I like the chicken patty. The bread that it's served in is soft and not too flaky. The customer service is also good.

Not impressed! I ordered Jerk chicken. It was grilled but that was about it! There was no flavor! When I order Jerk I'm expecting some heat n crispy skin! All I got was smoke. I had to come home rejerk n cook so my skin would be crispy n Not soft.

My favorite Jamaican Resturant in Atlanta. The fried dumplings taste like my grandmother used to make them. Everything I've had from this spot has been great in taste!

I guess with this restaurant when you order in you get a better experience. I ordered a large oxtail and received 2 boney pieces of meat! The rest of my plate was loaded with spoiled rice and peas and potatoes which took the place of the oxtail. I called in to let them know about the order and they basically told me I was lying about the portion I received, argued with me for about 10 mins on the phone with no resolution, just "no refunds" . Meanwhile I'm starving and have to figure out something else to eat. What a disgrace. For $20 I expect more than 2.5 pieces of oxtail. The customer service is horrible, Caribbean men ready to put an American woman in her place telling me what I'm not gonna do and what I'm going to do. They will never get my business don't care how good the food is when the service is horrible. Mad I had to give 1 star!

The food is delicious! I would recommend this place to any and everyone. I also had a really nice vibe.

I had an amazing experience today and always when visiting Sun City Restaurant the food is always good. The welcoming of the service is always just that! I get treated like I'm family being served by a loved one.. Thanks to Sun City My Belly Full..

Horrible service. Not welcoming at all. I hope the food is better than the attitude of the server. I remember coming here a couple of years ago and the guy who worked/owned the restaurant was so pleasant and inviting. Unfortunately has moved on and hired employees that are not as hospitable. I will never return here. I hope the service gets better for others who visit.

The food is always good. Prices are decent. But it's the attitude of the workers, I'm not going to keep dealing with. Because one day, I'll really step outside of myself. Today was the final straw for me as I have too much to lose. Specifically the tall, dark skin girl with the little bun on top of her head that speaks with a lisp. Her attitude is ALWAYS terrible. ALWAYS. She has a condescending tone and just bad body language. And don't let you look better than her. SMH. Yes, I will miss the food and good prices but I chose my livelihood over it. It's that bad with ol girl. I'm all about supporting black businesses, especially in the Stn Mountain area. I've been coming here since I moved to GA in April of this year. Whoever the owner is.... Put her in the back or have a conversation with her about how to respectfully speak to people before she has to find out the hard way one of these days. Not everyone is gonna deal with that. It costs nothing to be polite and professional. Home girl is miserable and I hate that for her.

This food was delicious! You are in and out. It's set up so that when you come in you can pick what you want and they box it up right in front of you. Great portion size worth the money! I had the curry chicken and my husband had the jerk chicken. I will be going back!

Food and customer service is exceptional!!!! It is always a delight to go there. I get my Sun City fix at least twice a month.

This restaurant has the rudest customer service. I understand that Oxtails are very expensive but you're charging customers $14 for a plate and only give them three pieces of oxtail. They deserve only one star. Don't get me wrong the food is great. But they need to fire the young lady that wear her wig always twisted. She has the nastiest Jamaican accent ,very dismissive,Very condescending and throws the food at you. She's very rude!! The heavyset light skin lady is a very nice lady. She's not the one I'm talking about. If you like your food taking up sloppy and rude Jamaicans then this is the place for you.

Once my sister introduced me to this place,it's been my favorite Jamaican place. I have never walked out with just one plate plus I always share with someone new in my Circle.

This is my go to quickie Jamaican food spot. I love their oxtails because they are small and not big and fatty. My 2nd choice would be the curry chicken. But what is addictive is his Mango Sweet Tea then mix it with the Pineapple Lemonade it is like heaven in a cup!

Ordered Delivery via Postmates and was shocked that they offered flexibility on the sides. I ordered A Brown Stew Chicken with a side of French Fries because my son has a reaction to Rice & Peas. I ordered a Jerk Chicken Meal w/ a salad. Food Arrived, and was wondering why there was a smalls containers. THEY PLACED THE MEAT SEATED ON THE RICE & PEAS! Me and my son were LIVID and I contacted the restaurant and they told me they switched it out without consideration to the paying customer. It could be a lawsuit, but I settled with getting my son's hungry quelled. My Jerk Chicken Meal came with no dressing for my salad. They just throw stuff together. All in all, if you are going to offer sides, you cannot discriminate on the side chosen from your own menu whether it's traditional side or not. It's listed on your menu, HONOR the request or you shouldn't be in the food business or falsely advertised that your a CARIBBEAN/AMERICAN restaurant. Better luck next time... or just take the French Fries off the menu altogether and leave Festival for the starch of choice for a Caribbean restaurant.

100% unimpressed and underwhelmed. If you like Caribbean food, DON'T eat here. The large jerk chicken dinner consisted of a drumstick and a chicken thigh cut into four very small pieces(somehow?). There was however, an ample amount of very dry rice and peas though. The chicken was not spicy AT ALL, it was just some regular dry grilled chicken with no sauce. Called to ask about the portion size of this so-called large and was told that the one cut up leg quarter i recieved(as described by the staff) WAS their idea of a large dinner. Keep your money and go get some real Caribbean food, please.

I got the curry tofu with rice and peas and Mac and cheese and a chicken and beef patty and.... It was so good. SO good. The tofu took about 10 min it prep so if you want it bake in some wait time.

The vegan options here are FIRE! I got the BBQ tofu, curry tofu, and plantains. Everything was sooooo incredible! The meals came with cabbage and rice and am already looking forward to my next trip. It's the perfect option to pick up after a hike at Stone Mountain.

I was searching for Jerk Tofu on Door Dash and came upon this place. They did not offer jerk tofu so I "settled" for brown stew tofu. Best decision I've ever made. The tofu was amazing and the plate was huge. There was enough for me and my daughter to share and still have leftovers. I also ordered a veggie patty coco bread. These items were also amazing. The plantains weren't good though. They were that weird potato texture. My friend said they were probably microwaved which was underwhelming buy everything else was amazing. I'll definitely order again, maybe leave the plantains off next time.

Just ordered from Uber eats and as a Caribbean American I'm disappointed. I ordered the jerk chicken lunch with rice & peas and salad, a side of plantain, and a chicken patty with cocoa bread. Seems like the only large portion of my plate was the rice which is dry and hard, like it was left over and overheated when re-warmed. The chicken... I received 3 tiny chicken drummette legs and maybe a third of a thigh. The sauce is served on the side. But I received no dressing for the salad. The plantain was ample. I'm sure I probably have 1 and a half in my small box. For $2 that's not bad. Overall Ima eat it but I doubt I'll be returning.

I ordered the large veggie fish meal. I guess it only comes with 2 sides bc i only got cabbage and plantains with it. Not sure if u get 2 sides or smaller portion with the small size meal. It was prepared to order which meant super fresh but also a 20 min wait. The staff was friendly. Atmosphere hole in the wall. Attached to a gas station. And for the life of me don't know why they were playing Katy Perry's greatest hits in a Jamaican restaurant hahaha...anyway, the food was great. The faux fish is wrapped in nori/seaweed to give it a fishy flavor and covered in brown stew. I would go here again, but order in advance next time.

Very Delicious always fresh and hot I loved the cabbage ! No long line in and out a good potion for your money .

I have high hopes for this place the food is good however how does a lunch jerk burger come with no fries they are charging 6 bucks and its a special so u should get what u normally get with it. There is a women who works here and she doesn't give much food at all I came twice in a row she does the same thing. The guy with dreads is the one to go to here he gives u what u pay for. Plus u have to wait for the jerk burger 20 mins.

Excellent and friendly service. Always great portions for prices and quality. The brown stew tofu is my go to. Rice is always hot and fresh.

I've tried the corn porridge and the oat porridge. I eat the porridge here regularly, and they are consistent with the flavor and the texture

I wasn't impressed, I don't think they give you enough food for the price that they charge.... the jerk was really good but it was like a few small piece and I spend almost 10 bucks for that and a side of Mac n cheese. The oxtail was nothing special.

Food is very seasoned I had ox tails and rice and beans and Mac and cheese. Lots of food on your plate. It's awesome need more security in the area because everyone hanging out by the store other than that food it's very good.

Really wanted to give this restaurant a 3.5 but since I couldn't I opted for four stars. I had the jerk chicken with cabbage, rice and peas. This was superior to the curry and stew chicken I tasted. The jerk was very seasoned. I loved the sauce (wish I got some on the side). Although, the jerk was good I still had better. The portion sizes are large but it didn't matter because most pieces were burnt and dried out to the point you couldn't eat it all in all it was about 7-8 pieces of chicken only 4 were good to eat. The rice and peas were just how I like it , and the cabbage was literally the best I ever had from a restaurant. The curry I tasted was alright (lacked flavor) , and the stew chicken had absolutely no flavor (cooked perfectly though). I would return for the jerk and cabbage but not for a while.

I've had the food before. It was not bad. However I had a problem when I did not receive a $70 order through Ubereats. The owner refused to make good on it (despite my having ordered from them many times). While he acknowledged that I was "innocent" in the mix-up, he ranted for more than 15 minutes on the phone and would not replace my food until he reconciled with Ubereats, leaving me with no food after an hour+ wait. I will NEVER order from them again. Very poor customer service!

Today I order through Ubereats. I ordered a large soup and a curry chicken meal. What i got was a soup with a hole in it and a tiny container of curry chicken. The soup was everywhere in the bag. And this chicken was not worth $6j. The food was good but if they cant handle deliveries then they should stop

I have been on a Caribbean food quick for a minute heck since I am Puerto Rican. ha ha. Anyways back to the review. The curry chicken with rice and peas and cabbage is banging. I live off of Memorial Drive and always saw the restaurant by this "busy" gas station. I figured heck why not try it out. Lord, it was soooooo good. I've been twice since and plan on going tonight to get some dinner for me and my husband. The food was hot and just the right amount of spice and you can't beat the price!

I would not recommend anyone going to do this restaurant! The owner, "Z", was extremely rude to me today and gave me the worst customer service experience I've ever had! I have come here over 20 times over the past three years and I've never had an issue. I'm vegetarian, so I always get some type of tofu with usually cabbage and some other vegetable or a veggie plate to-go. The food was never amazing, but it was a good price for the amount of food and I would always be able to eat at least two meals out of the portion. However, today I found what looked like a black hair in my cabbage and I asked for a refund. The owner not only told me I could not have a refund and they do not do refunds, but she also told me that it did not look like a hair follicle, it looks like a piece of lint that may have fallen off my shirt because there's no way it came from her kitchen because they all wear hair nets. I have blonde hair. I have never been to or heard of a restaurant that wouldn't agree to give someone a refund if there was some type of hair or something like that in their food not only without question, but usually also with an apology. She was beyond rude to blame something like that on the customer. She told me she would make me another plate of the same exact dish or that I could have a store credit but that they do not give refunds there no matter what. My last attempt to get my refund was to explain to her that I had been there over the past three years at least 20 times and that the cashier that had taken my order knew me very well and that I was a good customer that had never had an issue. She went back in the kitchen and then came out and agreed to give me the refund but told me it was never going to happen again and that it was a one-time deal. I just remember thinking: "you don't have to worry about that I'll never come here again". It was bad enough that I had to go through that much stress to get my refund of $10.17 after feeling nauseous about finding a hair in my food and then on top of that for her to say something so incredibly rude!? No thanks! I would have been happy with a partial refund since I ate some of the food, but I knew I would never return here again so I did not want a store credit or another plate. I'd like to add that I never once raised my voice to this woman or disturbed the other customers waiting in line to order food. I was very respectful of her business but I will never patronize a business that treats their customers this way. I was told by the cashier (who is very polite and kind) later outside that she is like this with everyone.
