Where to Find Holiday Cocktails in the Tampa Area | Eater

"Sunda New Asian has been recognized for its pan-Asian cuisine. Sure, you’ll find first-rate sushi and nigiri here. But the menu truly shines when you venture into some of Sunda’s more inventive items, like unagi tempura with seared foie gras and crispy rice topped with wagyu beef and a pesto of sorts. The Midtown eatery is an ideal place for a holiday shopping respite, where you can order a Ketel One cocktail before making it through the rest of the rush. Fuel up for the afternoon with an espresso martini, made with Ketel One vodka, cinnamon, and coffee liqueur." - Matthew Meltzer

Sunda Review - The Gulch - Nashville - The Infatuation

"It’s Friday afternoon, and you and your friends are in the Gulch for some retail therapy. You know what goes great with those new Lucchese boots? Shrimp tempura handrolls. And you know what goes great with those handrolls? Blood orange palomas. Accomplish all of that and more at Sunda, which is located on the first floor of the Icon, and grab a table by the bar. By the time you’re finished, rush hour traffic should be, too." - Adam Sloan

20 Best Restaurants in Melbourne | Condé Nast Traveler

"This Southeast Asian joint in Chinatown was an instant word-of-mouth success when it opened in mid-2018, and it has managed to sustain its initial buzz by tweaking its playful, slightly disorientating, menu. To get an idea of chef Khanh Nguyen's style, start with the wagyu rendang buns, served with pickled radish and fermented sambal—just be careful not to fill up on them. Then, meander through the medium-sized dishes (make sure you try the spanner-crab curry with finger lime and rice crackers, an exceptionally effective Asian/Australian mashup) before gorging on the mains. Nguyen's union of Southeast Asian recipes and Australian native ingredients is inspired, making Sunda the best kind of sharing restaurant: One where you'll actually talk about the food." - Dan F. My second time here and I was surprised at how good each dish was because my first time was unimpressive. The tocino grilled cheese was flavorful and the toasted bread was just right. I really enjoyed the tuna truffle pizza was well, it tasted fresh and rich. Loved the wagyu lobster roll though it was a bit pricey. The oxtail potstickers were alright, nothing too special. But overall a delicious brunch and I'd revisit soon.

Exceptional!! We celebrated our anniversary at Sunda this year & had an epic, memorable meal!! The restaurant set up is gorgeous! The location, the interior decor, the service, the food & drinks, just brilliant!! Shout out to Corey for providing excellent service! We enjoyed several different dishes and they were all equally amazing! The miso cauliflower, yellowtail jalapeno in ponzu sauce & the grilled shrimp were our absolute favorites of the night. The Meiji margarita was also fantastic 😍 As we were wrapping up, Corey brought us some delicate pandan dessert which was delicious too 😋 Sunda is going to be our special occasion/date night spot! Thank you Sunda for the fabulous dining experience!

Would rate 3.5 if I could. We went for brunch on a Sunday, 2 people. We ordered 3 dishes to share and drinks -- the sake to me roll, ube waffles with chicken, oxtail pot stickers, a sake and an ube espresso martini. Atmosphere and service was so good, servers were helpful with recommendations, patient, efficient, and nice, loved that. Portion sizes are so small here, especially considering everything (apps, mains, drinks) is just about $20 each or more. Even though the waitress commented that the ube waffles were a good/large portion, we left honestly feeling a little hungry still. The ube waffles had a good sauce, fresh fruit and juicy chicken, though the chicken I wish had a less sweet breading to contrast with the sweet waffles. Also wish there was more chicken for the $8 upcharge. The sushi roll was $21 but only had 6 pieces and wasn't memorable. The oxtail pot stickers, although they were really tasty and our favorite dish, only came with 4 pieces. While they had a good amount of oxtail in each bite, I have had a lot more good oxtail meat for the same price in a full dish with sides. If they really couldn't increase the amount of meat, I suggest they spread the oxtail out more across 6 pot sticker wrappings just so customers can enjoy it longer and there's more to eat with the wasabi cream and sauce (which were really good). My ube espresso martini unfortunately also tasted burnt/not good quality and didn't have much ube flavor and I couldn't really taste the alcohol either, maybe just buried under the burnt flavor. I don't plan to come back, but if I did I would order the oxtail pot stickers again, maybe try more savory dishes, & maybe try more of their sakes because they had a large selection. But it is unfortunately not worth the money to me, and goes into the category of Tampa restaurants that are vibey, gorgeous, nice people, but don't deliver on food for the price you pay. TLDR; wouldn't go, some good items (oxtail pot stickers), good atmosphere, but price not worth the food/drinks you get.

We recently had the pleasure of being hosted by Sunda in celebration of Negroni Week and had the chance to taste-test some of their newest cocktails. The classic Negroni was our first time trying this iconic drink—bold, bitter, and full of character—though it’s not one we’d typically order for ourselves. On the other hand, Whispers in Silk quickly became a favorite. This fruit-forward twist on a Negroni, with its delicate hint of lavender, was beautifully balanced and absolutely delicious. As for the food, Sunda never disappoints. The Brussels Sprouts are a must-try (perfect for sharing), and the Shishito Peppers make the ideal starter—flavorful and not at all spicy. Highly recommend!

This place is hands down the best restaurant in Tampa! I’ve been to many restaurants and nice places all around the world, but this has definitely become one of my top 5 places I have eaten at in my life. First and foremost, the night could not have been so wonderful had it not been for our incredible server Nick. From his extensive knowledge about the restaurant (history, how it started, etc) to his attentiveness and kindness, I was blown away by his service. He gave wonderful recommendations and even got us to try the Coconut Cheesecake (I usually hate cheesecake and was the best thing of my life!). All of the staff were warm and friendly, which is very hard to find nowadays, and it was a breath of fresh air I truly appreciated. Secondly, the ambiance was gorgeous. From the wall decorations, to the comfortable options of seating, it’s very beautifully designed. Also, the way they plate their food and garnish their drinks definitely elevates the dining experience. Lastly, every dish that was ordered was delicious. I did not order one thing that was “ok”, it was great or above & beyond. The menu is pretty broad, which usually you expect one or two dishes to be alright. But every dish was truly exceptional, some even surpassing expectations. Cannot commend the chefs & staff enough for their attention to detail! Thank you Sunda for the wonderful dining experience!

Labor Day weekend done right at Sunda New Asian in Tampa. Sunday night was packed as we celebrated the long weekend with cocktails and fabulous food! We started with the Signature Crispy Rice Wagyu - it was to die for! Incredibly delicious & melts in your mouth! The Escolar “The Great White” is scrumptious! We also had the Lemongrass Beef Lollipops which are so delicious & delightful! Our favorite was the Tuna Truffle Pizza! So unique & incredible! Our server Sean was so attentive and knows the menu inside and out. The best! We also love the entire team including Jacob who was awesome! If you want an incredibly unique culinary experience check out Sunda New Asian in Midtown.

This was a experience! Our server, Aaron, was the absolute best. He was attentive and pleasant and made sure that we were good the entire dinner. The restaurant is right in the heart of Midtown so there was plenty to see while dining. Excellent experience and AMAZING service!!!

Yelp
When you walk in, the staff gives you a warm welcome. Everyone was so nice and explained the menu items really well. I think I've found my favorite restaurant in Tampa! The food was phenomenal and tasted authentic. I had the Ube Martini and it was to die for! Usually, ube drinks are a hit or miss but this one was just sweet enough to give it flavor without tasting syrupy. The restaurant itself is pretty and the bathrooms were nice. The service was the best part! Will go back every time I'm back in Tampa for sure.

Yelp
BRUNCH The brunch menu is fun! There is a lot of really good items. The grilled cheese is fire! Really rich, buttery, but overall just delicious. We also tried the Ube waffles and the French toast and they were also winners. got the fried chicken on both. I was really here for the loaded bloody Mary but we decided to try the bloody Mary first before committing to the $50 big mama. Honestly, a little disappointing. There's really nothing Asian inspired about the flavors and frankly it was really watery. There was no flavor to it no spice and to get a whole 32 ounces is in my opinion not worth it. our waiter, as usual, was a gem! we went on Saturday right when they opened up and it was so nice and quiet. It didn't start getting busy until the end of our meal around 11 o'clock. definitely worth a try!

Yelp
Kala, our server, was amazing. Every dish (oxtail dumpling, crispy tuna, steak lomein, crazy rice, lobster wagyu roll, and red dragon roll) was delicious. Can't wait to come back with friends and request Kala. Thanks for the birthday treat and for letting us sample the ghost pepper sauce (including bringing us shots of milk)!!

Yelp
I ve been trying to come here for a long long time, and my birthday brunch was the perfect occasion! Of course I had to start with a espresso martini, they have a special one they make with ube milk, that was not my favorite way to do it, but it was still good! Very well made, then we moved on to the appetizers, we got the tiger shrimp tempura and they were so good, the sauce that comes with it is outstanding! Moving on to the entrees we shared some sushi, the pork belly steamed buns and the pork belly adobo rice, all our entrees were sooooo good! But the pork belly steamed buns stole my heart, they were out of this world! The rice was also delicious! Priscilla was our waitress and she was so sweet and special, we really had a great time! I am coming back for sure. The restaurant look is everything! Just love the vibe so much.

Yelp
My first time at this restaurant, and Sunda has definitely made it into my top 5 restaurants in Tampa. The service and attention were wonderful, the atmosphere was super nice, the décor was stunning, and the food... an absolute 5/5! I had the chance to try many dishes, starting with the miso soup and tiger shrimp tempura as appetizers--both were the perfect way to kick things off. They were flavorful and absolutely delicious. I also tried the ube waffles with Japanese fried chicken, and wow! They were incredible, with perfect texture, beautiful presentation, and amazing flavors. The adobo rice was another standout--fresh, flavorful, and simply divine. The avocado crispy rice was a bit unexpected. I thought it would be a rice bowl, but it turned out to be more like avocado toast with crispy rice, served with a salad. While it wasn't what I envisioned, it was still delicious and wonderfully crunchy. The buns were hands-down the highlight of everything I tried. For drinks, the lychee mimosa was a total hit--highly recommended! This was truly a 5-star experience, and with its great location in Midtown, I know I'll be coming back again soon.

Yelp
Secured a reservation for 10 here for a friend's birthday! They were so accommodating and the wait staff really made my night. The waiter went above and beyond to make sure we all had an enjoyable meal. She went through the menu with us and recommend various items for us to try and even steered us away from items that weren't her favorite. The vibes of the restaurant are also elevated, located in the heart of midtown. From the many things I tried, here are my thoughts... The crazy rice: Too die for. So so delicious and would 100% order again. It was packed with protein both chicken and shrimp, and topped with an egg. Be warned that the ghost peppers really pack some heat into this dish but if you're okay with heat, you'll love it. It's not too over powering but definitely noticeable. The tuna crispy rice: underwhelmed... I loved that there was a generous portion of tuna however the rice was a tad too sticky and not crunchy enough to my preference. I probably would not order this again. The tuna pizza: 100% would order again. We all kept saying we don't think we've ever tried something like this. The truffle paired with the tuna paired with roti is so unique and not something you'll be able to find everywhere. We tried two sushi rolls and honestly were disappointed by both... the rice did not taste fresh and unfortunately tasted just like the sushi you can get from Publix... not worth the money on my opinion but we may have just caught them on an off night. The lychee martini: 100% delicious!! I'm a sucker for anything with lychee in it. It pairs perfectly with a meal since it's so light. Overall I loved the vibes of this restaurant and am satisfied with my visit. Tons of food to try, giving me a reason to come back.

Yelp
I can't wait to come back!!!! I had never heard of this restaurant before, and wow!!!!!! it's absolutely stunning and delicious. From the location (I'm a big fan of MidTown) to the interior decor and overall vibe, everything was perfect. Our server was phenomenal, she explained everything in detail and always had a smile on her face. As for the food, I have nothing bad to say. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. I could eat the seaweed salad every single day! My mojito took a bit longer to arrive, but I totally understand that they were busy, and we were a large group, so it wasn't a big deal. I'll definitely be back to try the Bao Buns, the sushi, and of course, more seaweed salad! HAHA.

Yelp
We went to Sunda in Midtown Tampa to celebrate one of my best friend's birthdays and it was such a great choice, this place is super pretty and the vibe was perfect. The food was sooo good, you can tell everything is really fresh and high quality. I think this might be the best fried rice I've had in a while! The pork belly steamed buns were everyone's favorite seriously delicious. Our server was awesome and took great care of us. I got a margarita and was pretty good. I'll definitely be back. Perfect place for a celebration or just hanging out with friends over amazing food!

Yelp
This upscale Asian fusion restaurant exceeded all my expectations! 1st impressions are everything to me. I'll never forget my first experience. I'm now a regular! From the moment I walked in for the first time, i was greeted warmly by the management and staff, who provided exceptional service throughout my visit. The food was phenomenal--each dish beautifully presented and bursting with unique flavors that showcased the perfect blend of traditional and modern Asian cuisine. I don't even know where to start, since everything from the sushi to the lumpia to the pork shank is a must! The drink menu was equally impressive, featuring creative cocktails and a curated sake list that complemented the dishes perfectly. I also tried their brunch, which was a delightful surprise with innovative takes on classic favorites. The steak and eggs are a must! The ambiance and atmosphere are sophisticated yet inviting, making it an ideal spot for both special occasions and casual gatherings. Truly a culinary gem that I'll always make time to visit again!

Yelp
Parking: They have valet in front, but they have a garage off to the side that's free! Ambiance: what a beautiful decorated restaurant. It really brings out an Asian culture! They just opened a new brunch menu and it is delicious!!! We got the island plate, ube waffles and the tocino grilled cheese. Highly recommend trying them. Our server Talon was so kind! He was very attentive and provided great service!

Yelp
Highlight of my experience here was our waitress Grace M: she gave good insights into the menu, made good recommendations, had good rapport with our dining party, cracked good jokes, and overall added significantly to a good time! We shared the coconut cheesecake (per recommendations from Grace), which was "heaven in a bite". Usually coconut flavored desserts are hit or miss for me because it's easy to make the flavor too strong, but Sunda gets it just right: consistency, light but rich flavor, and the right combo of ingredients. A couple in the party said it's worth coming back here just for this dessert. Other things people tried and enjoyed: crispy eggplant buns and grilled veggies (the khao soi curry is amazing!). I ordered/split the pork belly bun, which had a nice and fluffy bun with good green onion flavor. The hearty/fatty flavor from the pork belly is balanced well with the bun and the pickled veggies inside. I also got the adobo fried rice, with pork belly, and thought it was a bit too salty but overall tasted good. The rice was stir fried to just the right crisp and enhanced the other flavors. The decoration inside reminds of Asian fusion / modern, with lower lighting overall to set the mood but well lit enough to be able to really see the artistic deco inside and appreciate the plating of the food.

Yelp
Amazing place to have a brunch, the variety of its menu really makes it difficult for you to decide what to eat and I love that. The service and atmosphere of this place is amazing. The bacon and cheese sandwich is one of the best I've ever tried and the pork fried rice was delicious. They have quite a variety in the menu of cocktails and drinks and the Margarita was delicious.

Yelp
If I could give more than 5 I would! Right as you walk in the door, vibes are immaculate. Decor and ambiance is giving Crazy Rich Asians vibes in the best way. Waiter was very composed and took the time to explain to us the menu and gave recommendations when we asked. Very attentive, took! We made reservations for my birthday on New Years! Started off with some celebratory drinks. Could not go wrong with the lychee Simoy. You would think making a lychee cocktail would be easy but some places prove me wrong. The lychee Simoy at Sunda was ! I'm pretty sure they use actual lychee juice and not the syrup. It tastes so yummy like a dessert but still light! The strawberry fields also you could not go wrong with. Kind of thicker syrupy consistency. Maybe like a strawberry daiquiri. I also ordered the Silk Road as my second drink. This one I have mixed feelings about because I have a love/hate relationship with rose flavor in general. Prosecco made it easier to drink haha Definitely get the crispy rice wagyu and crispy rice spicy tuna! They usually come four piece per so we did a mix match of two each. Panda roll was yummy! I loved the wasabi aioli. It's also very minimal amount of cream cheese. So we for sure realized we ordered too much when we got to the steamed buns. We again did a mix match with 2 pork belly and 2 Korean fried chicken. I definitely preferred the pork belly over the chicken. The bun is so soft and fluffy and the way that it has all the folds looks so good! The crazy rice IS actually SPICY. This is your warning in case you decide to give it a go. The waiter did warn us but I thought it was one of those situations where they tell us it's spicy but it's not. We usually eat pretty spicy on the regular. The waiter recommended the chicken inasal and he did not steer us wrong. Very tender and flavorful dish. First time ever having before. I do think this would have been better with plain rice. Very strongly flavored and we ate it with the fried rice so it was a little bit too much. I did end up taking this Togo and ate it with rice and salad as leftovers haha Posted a short video with mukbang on my Tik Tok @itschristietran https://www.tiktok.com/@itschristietran/video/7456417264166882590?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7456959868496643630

Yelp
Kayla deserves a gold star and a raise! If you're lucky enough to have Kayla as your server, buckle up because you're in for a five-star experience! From the moment we sat down, she was a ray of sunshine--bubbly, hilarious, and knew the menu with her eyes closed. She didn't just take our order; she guided us like a culinary fairy godmother, making sure we got the best of the best. It's rare to find someone who genuinely loves what they do, and it shows in every interaction. Kayla, if you're reading this--thank you for being amazing! And to the restaurant--please protect this woman at all costs. I will definitely be coming back for more crispy rice!
google avatar

Yelp
We've all heard the hype so we needed to finally try it. I would say in general the place is pretty good. It gets slammed so make sure you get a res. The miso cauliflower was my fave for sure. The crispy rice wagyu lacked flavor but the wagyu was extremely tender and buttery. The salmon roll was also pretty good. We will definitely return to try other things on the menu as most plates are small shareable items.
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
I dined at Sunda few weeks ago, and I must say, every dish we tried was absolutely incredible! While the sushi is definitely a highlight, I highly recommend branching out and trying some of the other offerings on the menu to truly experience the full range of flavors. Each plate is crafted with care and creativity, making it a culinary adventure. The service was also commendable--attentive and friendly, which added to the overall enjoyable atmosphere. And don't forget to save room for dessert! Anything that features taro is a must-try; it's simply divine and the perfect way to end your meal. Overall, Sunda is a fantastic dining experience that I can't recommend enough. Whether you're a sushi lover or just looking to explore new flavors, this place has something for everyone!

Yelp
I came for brunch and they have such a fun interesting brunch menu, they have an Asian twist to traditional favorite brunch items. I had the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer and it was agood sharing portion and soo delicious and fresh. I also had the crab hand roll and it was good but I think I will skip that next time. The tea was tasty and came in a unique display. The service was great, we had Priscilla and she was very attentive.

Yelp
My first time in Sunda and let me tell you that this restaurant is an experience to try. Is located in Midtown Tampa, the concept of the place is simply iconic. The inside decoration, the service, the dishes, everything is a vibe. We made a reservation for 15 and they fitted us perfectly. The food was absolutely amazing and delicate, I just tried the brunch menu but I'm definitely coming back for the dining menu soon!

Yelp
Stylish, popular and upscale Asian fusion restaurant. Warning; they have a loud but upbeat atmosphere. Service was attentive and friendly. The crispy rice with spicy tuna was very good. I really enjoyed the combination of tastes and textures. The hamachi roll (I can't remember the name on the menu) was good. The fish had a really good fresh flavor and the other items gave it a nice crunch. This is a pretty lightweight roll. The fried tiger shrimp was very tasty, but the candied walnuts and sauce made it was super sweet and heavy. I liked it, but I regretted it ;-) The prices are pretty steep. The hamachi roll and the crispy rice with spicy tuna were each in the mid $20 range.
google avatar

Katie G.

Yelp
Our servers, Sara and Adam, were great- very friendly and attentive. As someone who drinks a lot of water, the refills were on point. The ambiance is romantic with low light and good music. There is outdoor dining with a view of midtown. The martinis came out fast and they had blue cheese olives as an option. Now, for the main attraction, the food. Everything was delicious and extremely flavorful. The only thing I wasn't too fond of was the Brussels sprouts because it was mainly cabbage with shaved Brussels. Overall, though, I had a great experience.

Yelp
Brunch has made its delicious debut at Sunda New Asian in Midtown Tampa! The Ube Waffles were truly remarkable, with ube gracing everything from the waffle batter to the butter. And the Avocado Crispy Rice was fresh and filling with the perfect amount of spice. The service was prompt and friendly, the ambiance was upscale but relaxed. The interior of the restaurant is absolutely beautiful, and the exterior patio had great people watching during the Market at Midtown. We brought my friend's pup with us, and the team brought a water dish for her without us even asking. Great service all around. This is only day one of their brunch offerings, and I'm already planning my next visit.

Yelp
Sunda in Midtown is a fun dining experience to add to the list! They offer new Asian cuisine which puts a creative twist on Southeast Asian classics. I definitely recommend trying the steamed buns! They were absolutely phenomenal, flavorful, and had a fun bun (more like a bao slider than a traditional bao bun). The miso soup was some of the best I've ever had as well Overall, everything we ordered was excellent. Was only sad we had no room for dessert!

Yelp
Let's start off this place is a 5 star I'm sure almost every visit. My issues are related to this evening and just the reason why it dropped a star. It's an exceptionally well done place very high end and welcoming. The staff at the door are pleasant and we were seated fast. Our server and her "helper" were spot on in every aspect of service and menu recommendations. The drinks were also well done which is a plus to their service and quality. The appetizers were excellent with the sushi very fresh and tatty. The wagyu beef rice appetizers melted on your mouth. For the main meal the crispy chicken dish was huge and a treat to try with plenty to take home. Here's the rub the carb garlic noodles was done well but there wasn't enough crab in the dish to make a small cracker or two happy. While the crab was fresh it was almost non existent in the dish. To their credit that apologized, offers more crab to add to the dish (I passed) and they removed it from the check. My next issue is that the overlay music is so loud you cannot hold a conversation at the table. Why establishments insist on blasting music no matter how appropriate it's somewhat annoying. My last issue and agin this is my issue where we were seated there was a serving table behind my bench seating. Every time someone did something at the table and closed the doors on it they would shake my seat. While our server tried to move it away it was a constant source of frustration during the meal. Next time a different table.

Yelp
Such a fun night!!!! We came here for an early girls night on a Thursday and had a blast! It was a few of the girls first time and they loved it! Our waiter was Jay and he was a GEM! The drinks were fresh and crispy, the Waygu and tuna crispy rice is so fresh and melts in your mouth, edamame was perfectly salted and all the sushi rolls were phenomenal! Then we got surprised with dessert! Sunda is incredible!

Yelp
Cool modern Asian restaurant in the best district of Midtown Tampa!! Strawberry fields cocktail- so yummy! I love a fruity martini. Wish it had more alcohol though. Brussel sprouts- huge portion and loaded with toppings. Crispy rice- options of wagyu, spicy tuna, or half half! I tried both but like the spicy tuna better. Love the midtown location, they offer valet too. The vibe is super cute and chill background music too Best part was that I accidentally forgot my takeout box and the manager gave me a $25 gift card to make up for it! Excellent service and hospitality here!

Yelp
Sunda was one of those restaurants that I was so excited to try and my experience there definitely lived up to the hype. For an amazing all around restaurant- this is the place to go. The service, the food, the drinks, the ambiance; everything was top notch. We were invited to the vip curated dinner and we tried so many things from the menu because they kept recommending stuff and nothing disappointed! If you go, make sure you try a bunch of different dishes and try stuff you may not have tried before. This is the perfect place to try new flavors and fall in love with something new!

Yelp
The ambiance and vibes of the place is amazing. The workers are all attentive and kind. The interior was decorated tastefully. I really wanted to like it, but the food just didn't hit. There are some stand out dishes, but not enough to balance the not so great dishes, and certainly not enough to inspire me to come back (I've been here twice now) and at the end of the day, also not worth the price. Baked snow crab hand roll - 8/10. Tied for my favorite dish here -- heavy on the rice and light on the crab, but crab tasted fresh. Still not worth $18 for an appetizer for one. Steamed buns pork belly - 8/10. First time I was here, they were outstanding. 10/10. Definitely the favorite. Unfortunately it was not consistent. Second time around, the meat was so tough and overcooked I couldn't even eat it. 4/10. Had to take it out and just eat the dough and pickled veggies. Bun has a soft and fluffy texture, pickled veggies are on point, and the buns themselves were stuffed. Worth the price, it will fill you a decent amount. Signature crispy rice combo (wagyu and tuna) - 5/10. The consistency of the tuna was off, extremely mushy to the point where I was uncomfy. Wagyu was good, pretty thin though. Crispy rice taste/texture was almost fully/toasted than an exterior crisp. Butcher's cut wagyu - 6/10. Nothing special. Not worth $68 when you can get better quality wagyu for that price at an actual Japanese place. Sake nigiri - 8/10. Nothing special here either, fish tasted fresh which was good. Tiger shrimp tempura - 5/10. Attempted take on Chinese walnut shrimp but the sauce was off, took away from the shrimp itself, and shrimp ended up having a weird exterior texture because the tempura was not done well then the sauce quickly absorbed in to make it soggy. Miso cauliflower - 4/10. I was excited for this dish bc who doesnt like miso cauliflower? Sadly, it was drenched in sauce to the point of soup. It made the cauliflower too mushy to eat, and extremely salty to the point where we literally could not eat it. As seen from the ratings, while some of the dishes are not terrible, I would never pay that much for that level of quality. There are much better places in the area with higher quality of foods for the same price. Will add more photos when I remember to.

Yelp
I came back to Sunda for my birthday and tried a few more dishes. Food was still delicious but what really inspired me to come back and update my review was the spectacular service from everyone. I was warmly greeted by the server I had over the weekend and the server that took care of our ten-person party juggled everything so well. He gave a full breakdown of the menu twice and suggested some great options. He remembered everyone's order and made sure everything came out ASAP. I'm HIGHLY satisfied with the service here.

Yelp
I literally have nothing negative to say. I've been here over 6 times and each time, the food is consistently good. Quality never wavers - which is always shocking to me when a spot with multiple locations can pull that off. Love their brunch and dinner options!

Yelp
All the food here that I have had is delicious. Sushi is fresh. Appetizers are on point. Drinks are nice and strong. I sat at the bar and the service was quick and efficient. I love the decor and the lighting. I will definitely be back on my next visit to Midtown Tampa.

Yelp
Loved the service, waitress was friendly and welcoming. Food came out fast. The food was delicious. Parking was a hassle since I had to park in the parking garage and walk 5 minutes to the restaurant. Otherwise, everything at the restaurant was perfect.

Yelp
I love everything a-bao this place :) Midtown just keeps getting better and better... and somehow they still offer free & ample parking, a Tampa rarity. Went on a Sat night, no res, but we were able to snatch some seats at the bar right away. Service was friendly and fast, the vibe was trendy and seemed to be a popular date spot. The aesthetic is giving all the good feels. For food we got Korean fried chicken bao $22 which was by far my favorite and the Bulgogi roti tacos $24 which was a very very close 2nd. But omg I'm a ho for fresh bao buns, don't pass them up :)

Yelp
This is a very loud place with excellent cocktails. But the food was not worth the price. My husband and I had a date night at Sunda. We had 7:15 reservations, and when we arrived, the place was overflowing, and we waited about 20 minutes for our table. The place was loud and full of people who ranged from properly dressed up to very casual attire. We drank both cocktails and sake. We especially liked the Peared Sake and the Waterrmelon Mojito. We ordered: the lumpia, the brussel sprouts, the half and half crispy rice, the pork belly adobo fried rice, and the pata. I thought that the food overall was very good, but nothing was especially innovative, and for the price, I wasn't impressed. The lumpia had an interesting smoky flavor, and it was properly crispy. The brussel sprouts was a huge order, but I thought they used a bit too much fish sauce. The crispy rice was good, but was it $26 good? I've been eating spicy tuna crispy rice for almost 20 years, so nothing innovative there. The fried rice was only okay, could have used more acid, and again, not worth $26. The pata was crispy but the meat was on the dry side. I go out to eat very frequently, and I'm not scared of spending a lot of money on food, but I do expect excellent preparation of food and innovation (or very expensive ingredients), if I'm going to spend over $300 for a meal for two people. If I can get a similar meal for less and/or make the food myself, it's not worth a repeat visit as far as I'm concerned. Our server was nice, and service was attentive and fast.

Yelp
Let me start by saying... I WILL be back! We did a walk in for two and had to wait maybe 15-20 minutes. It's so pretty in there! The service was amazing and attentive with knowledgeable servers. Started with sake and Brussels app. Brussels were 7/10, good but nothing spectacular or too special. I ordered off their Filipino heritage month menu since it would be going away at the end of the month. I was SO happy I did. I had crispy pork belly with spinach, tomatoes, added mushrooms and topped with a tamarind sauce. SO SO GOOD. 10/10 Can't wait to come back and try more!

Yelp
What an incredible dinner at Sunda the other day. It is one of the newer spots in Midtown area of Tampa ~ it is an elevated Asian cuisine restaurant that offers a remarkable culinary journey through Southeast Asia. With a diverse menu featuring dishes from various regions, it caters to a wide range of tastes, including vegetarian and vegan options. Two standout dishes are the Brussels and yellowtail jalapeño which are truly out of this world. Their perfect balance of flavors and textures makes them a must-try. Drinks were yummy, but the dessert named "ridiculous" was the absolute wow!! I am a sweet tooth so I am a dessert connoisseur. I'd definitely order it next time I dine at this eatery. The lively atmosphere at Sunda enhances the dining experience, making it a great spot for social gatherings and special occasions. We came in on a Thursday night and reservation wasn't hard to get so that is a huge plus for me as I prefer to reserve a table when going out to dinner. A lot of restaurants in Tampa block 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM slots so they can utilize their tables twice. Sunda doesn't do that and that's amazing! The service, especially from Alyssa, was excellent. Her attentiveness and knowledge of the menu added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. For anyone looking to explore flavorful Asian cuisine in a vibrant setting, Sunda is a top choice.

Yelp
This was my first dinner when visiting Tampa, and it was a great experience. First impression was the free parking?! Amazing. I easily parked in the garage and walked over through Midtown to the restaurant. I did use google maps to figure out where I was going since I didn't see a map near the parking garage. We were seated right away. The ambiance was really nice and people were dressed up. Our server was great and gave many menu recommendations. My friend had been there several times and also gave great recommendations. I had a glass of the Squealing Pig Sauvignon Blanc which is one of my favs. Super crisp and grapefruity. We started with brussel sprouts and edamame, and the brussel sprouts were amazing! I've never had them prepared that way, and the portion was huge. The crispy rice with spicy tuna on top was my favorite. I also enjoyed the salmon crudo with cilantro lime vinaigrette, aji amarillo, rayu. The bite absolutely melted in your mouth. Delicious. The rainbow roll was *$29* and was a standard rainbow roll consisting of : crab tuna, salmon, escolar, yellowtail, avocado, asparagus, sesame. I've never seen it priced so high before (double what I'm used to), and I didn't think it was extra special. The adobo fried rice was also just ok. The coconut cheesecake was absolutely amazing - do not skip dessert! Overall good experience at a cool, upscale Asian restaurant!

Yelp
I visited this spot for dinner on my first night in Tampa with some friends and coworkers, and I had a fantastic experience. First off, the service was exceptional. I arrived a little late, coming straight from my flight, and the hosts were incredibly accommodating, even helping me find a spot to store my duffle bag. Our server was also amazing--funny, personable, and full of great recommendations, all of which were delicious! Now, let's talk about the star of the show... the food. Wow! The Brussels sprouts were incredible--crispy with layers of flavor. The hand rolls and crispy rice were equally delicious. And for the grand finale, the coconut cheesecake, recommended by our server, was absolutely out of this world!

Yelp
came here on New Year's Eve so it was quite busy, but I absolutely loved my experience! the service was phenomenal and pretty speedy. the food was delicious and unique - I tried a sushi roll where you "gamble" for a ghost pepper, so that really had us all laughing and having fun. my party dined outside so I couldn't tell the vibe inside, but outside seating was nice with the view of midtown. can't wait to go back and try more of the menu!

Yelp
Absolutely loved Sunda from the decor to the food and service. Had a 7pm reservation but got a bit hungry so we arrived an hour early; a table wasn't available but they had bar seating and seating at the sushi bar which we took! Our waiter was great! He was super attentive and made sure to describe the items we were stuck between choosing very well. We went for the gambler, which was deliciously spicy.. there's a hidden ghost pepper in one piece so it's a gamble to take. I really loved that the gambler came on a wooden lazy Susan it really made the gambler an experience, with a poker chip with an extra surprise. For the entree I had the adobo chicken rice, which was delicious, I've never had adobo but this plate was the great blend of flavors (we mixed the egg in per the chefs recommendation). I paired my plates with this month's special Starring at the Sun drink. The drink was a 7/10, not bad, but between the mango and pineapple it was a different tangy that wasn't my cup of tea. Overall, I will definitely be back. I love the mix of dishes they have with something for everyone!

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Sunda New Asian in MidTown Tampa as they celebrated their one-year anniversary. The ambiance of the restaurant is fantastic, providing a stylish and inviting atmosphere perfect for any occasion. The service was top-notch, with attentive and friendly staff ensuring an excellent dining experience. The food and drinks were nothing short of amazing. From the limited anniversary menu, I ordered the Tamaraw Old Fashioned, Smoke Show, and Pancit Canton, each offering a unique and delightful flavor profile. Pancit Canton: This dish featured crispy pork belly, lap cheong, shrimp, carrots, cabbage, bok choy, scallions, and Cantonese sauce. It was a hearty and satisfying dish with a perfect blend of savory and sweet notes. Smoke Show: The smoked salmon with crispy salmon skin, cucumber, arugula, kampyo, and smoked soy ponzu was a delightful combination of textures and flavors. The smoked soy ponzu added a rich, savory depth that elevated this roll. Tamaraw Old Fashioned: This cocktail was a standout with its blend of orange and plantain-infused ox fat-washed Monkey Shoulder Scotch, house-made banana syrup, and orange and chocolate bitters. It was a perfect balance of sweetness and complexity. From the regular menu, I ordered the Red Dragon, which included unagi, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, jalapeño, avocado, tempura crisp, and unagi sauce. It was an exceptional roll, with each bite delivering a burst of flavors and a satisfying crunch from the tempura crisp. Overall, Sunda New Asian exceeded my expectations in every way. The exceptional food and drinks, combined with the great ambiance and excellent service, made for a truly memorable dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a fantastic meal in Tampa.

Yelp
What an UNBELIEVABLE Experience. Ambiance was really cool and the background EPM music was perfect. Gracie's service was a TEN and her recommendations were on point. Started with Edamame and it was delicious, but when we got to the Wagyu Krispy Rice.....OH MY GOD! I wanted to go and hug Chef Sao who made it!! That is definitely top 5 in the best things I have ever eaten. So gooood I got a second order of it. I will be counting the days to come back. My wife got the Toro and SHE was over her head on How good and Fresh it was. Blew her Mind!! Melted in her mouth good. Then she got the Spicy Tuna Roll and .....just over the top good. YOU HAVE TO COME HERE!!

Yelp
5 Stars for some standout dishes and a great atmosphere! (Get the spicy tuna crispy rice, the Brussels sprouts, and the coconut cheesecake STAT.) I've had the pleasure of dining here twice- both times suggested by Yelp Tampa Bay's own Sky W. She has yet to lead me astray. First thing- parking is free in the garage at Midtown, so that makes things super easy! From there it's a few steps to the entrance of Sunda. I've sat at the high tops as well as the larger round tables and both have been great, though the high tops put you a bit close to your neighbor, so if that's not a preference be sure to call ahead for another table. My favorite dishes were: - Spicy tuna crispy rice: This one is perfect in terms of texture and flavor. It's seasoned tuna stop pan seared sushi rice with ghee and tamari topped with: masago, chives, sriracha, chili oil, serrano. This one is worth ordering enough for everyone to get two! - Crispy brussels sprouts: WOW. This is big enough to share with your table, though you may want it all for yourself. This was a standout dish. Whatever you're thinking when you read Brussels sprouts is wrong. These are a reinvented way to enjoy this vegetable that isn't just grilled and smothered in balsamic. It consists of brussels sprouts, red cabbage, red onions, carrots, chilis, shallot crisps, minced shrimp, and nuoc cham vinaigrette. - Adobo fried rice with vegetables: a GREAT vegetarian option that features a crispy fried egg on top of rice with hearty veggies including bok choy, carrots, mushrooms, toasted garlic, vinegar soy, scallions. - Coconut cheesecake: This cheesecake is whipped, so it's incredibly light in texture and topped with crispy coconut flakes with caramel and a graham cracker crust. There are some berries on top and on the side, which adds the perfect touch of acidity to a perfect dessert. Overall, I would absolutely return again and again! Thanks for the great service, Michael!

Yelp
My best friend and I went here for my Birthday dinner on Sunday. We got seated by the hostess, and a nice gentleman came by to pour us water and ask us if it was our first time there. Didn't get his name, he never introduced himself. Would have been nice to put him in this review. He checked on us regularly, put the lights and fan for outside on four us. That was really nice of him. Our servers name was Ashley, she was really nice and patient with us. Checked on us regularly as well. She recommended some dishes and drinks for us and even dessert. My best friend ordered green tea shots for us, and for herself she ordered, the strawberry fields specialty cocktail, miso soup, lumpia and oxtail potstickers. I ordered chicken inasal and the grass tiger specialty cocktail. I like the concept of Sunda they embrace the Filipino culture, with their delicious dishes. I was happy with that aspect since it's apart of my background. Overall happy and grateful to experience fine dining with an amazing bestie. The ambiance was very beautiful and inviting.

Yelp
I would honestly eat here every day if I could. It's so hard to find a sushi spot in Tampa, but this is the place to go! Their fish is so fresh, I will only eat Nigiri from here. But they have way more than sushi, all their entrées are amazing! I definitely recommend going with a group if you can they have a shared style concept. I would order everything from the menu and taste a bit of everything if i could. There's no wrong decision in food choices here! Management is definitely up to par! They're so kind, it really is a family: friendly feeling as soon as you walk into the door. The host are always smiling, asking how you are. The restaurant is a vibe. If you can't get a reservation, the bar is a great choice to sit! However, wherever you're sitting in the restaurant, you will get the most amazing service. The staff is so great here. I could recommend any server and you will get the best experience.

Yelp
Didn't realize it was a small chain of restaurants but the sushi was super fresh and had some great rolls! I enjoyed the tail of tunas, red dragon, lobster wagyu, rainbow, and my favorite smoke show. Kayla was the perfect server as she was on point with recommendations and always there when needed, but not hovering. Valet was available for about $10.

Yelp
Tampa continues to add more good restaurants to go out. Located at midtown. Excited to try due to its south east Asia found influenced especially Filipino. We initially dropped in for a late drink on Friday night but decided to have Easter dinner with family. The place is very cool. We ask for outdoor seating to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. Service was great from start to finish. There is public parking and baker in front of the restaurant. Reviewed the menu. Decided to start with cocktails- ube expresso martini and grass tiger. Love the Asian inspired drinks. We started with appetizers- spicy tuna & waygu crispy rice and spicy edamame. Surprising both were delicious with a mild kick. For our entree with decided to share chicken inasal and Tom yum sea bass. Wow the chicken inasal has so much flavors, soft, and moist. Great with the vinegar dipping sauce. Will definitely need to try the kamayan meal next time. The sea bass was delicious and I highly recommend. Make sure to maybe room for desserts. We tried the coconut cheesecake and their Sunda sundae (halo halo). Love their version of the halo halo. My son demolished cheesecake which is similar to some of basque cheesecake we tried in San Sebastián last summer. Will definitely come back again and try the other specialty cocktails and food.

Yelp
Bury me in the Crispy Tuna!! I've heard a lot about this place and finally decided to try it - let me tell you, it did not disappoint! The Lobster Wagyu roll was one of my favorite dishes, but honestly everything I tried was amazing and full of flavor. I'm always on the hunt for some crispy tuna rice, and this has to be one of the best spots in Tampa that offers the dish. The dim lighting gives the restaurant a really nice vibe and even sitting at the bar, the service was great.

Yelp
We had an absolutely phenomenal dinner at Sunda in Tampa last night for a friend's birthday bash. The food, featuring scrumptious Southeast Asian cuisine, was a flavor explosion! The ambiance was chic and sophisticated, and the service was impeccable. I kicked things off with a Strawberry Fields Martini, bursting with the freshness of muddled strawberries. The Wagyu Crispy Rice was out of this world--honestly, one of the best things I've ever tasted. We also devoured the Bao buns with succulent Pork Belly and Crispy Asian Chicken, along with the exquisite Yellowtail Crudo. To top it all off, we indulged in a Coconut Cheesecake that was light, refreshing, and absolutely divine. Sunda is an absolute must-visit for a romantic date night, a fabulous ladies' night out, or just to pamper yourself with an unforgettable meal!
