Sundae Best Homemade Ice Cream

Best ice cream in Avalon, hands down. Been going here for years and they never disappoint. My favorite flavor is Funky Monkey, but Cherry Vanilla is also good.

This is our favorite ice cream parlor at the shore. The flavors are full of the stalwarts along with some unusual yet tasty options we don’t tend to see elsewhere (grilled pineapple, blueberry crumb). And of course there are about a dozen tasty sundae options too. Highly recommend!

Cute ice cream place with a huge selection of flavors. Can get super busy after dinner. The waffle cone was boring though. Would have been perfect with housemate cones dipped in chocolate or something.

The BEST hand dipped ice cream on the 7 mile island & perhaps in the whole state of NJ. We love it here. Patience is a virtue because there's always a line at this popular place. Treat yourself-you'll be happy you did and it's definitely worth the wait. Picture shows the smiles as we wait for our black & white milkshakes.

I really like the way they have setup their business to accommodate concerns about the spread of Covid-19. The have everyone order outside and they lines on the sidewalk to help people social distance. The icecream is home made and very delicious. This is our favorite icecream shop when we come to the NJ shore.

Hands down best ice cream in the area (sorry, Springers) and honestly, they could rival Salt & Straw (IYKYK). They've also engineered their service flow- peakservice means long lines, but instead of having everyone crowd in the shop, they set up a tent out front to take orders, then scoopers inside prep and bring out your order on a tray. No shouting over each other and everything comes out right.

Best ice cream in Avalon, bar none. Be wary that lines can be long, but the COVID-19 protocol of ordering outside is reasonable and doesn't diminish the great taste.

Today is Sept 8th and the last day for some of Sundae Best. Our gaggle had an assortment of ice creams and sundaes. The favorite was the FluffNutter & least popular was the Brownie Sundae. No one really spoke while inhaling. Nice spot but on the pricey side. See you next season.

We adore Sundae Best! We used to go here all the time when we had a place in NorthWildwood. That's right, it was so good we drove 20 minutes over on many summer nights. It is always busy, but I think that shows how good it is. The ice cream is homemade, and delicious, speaking of homemade the waffle cones are also and they are the best I've ever had! Every flavor of ice cream I've tried is great. If you can withstand the crowd to order, you're free to enjoy your delightful ice cream in their outdoor seating area, back at your car, or on a walk around town.

I cannot rave enough about this spot. Whether I'm ordering the Key Lime pie, Kohlers Donut which uses real pieces of donut, chocolate chip cookie dough or lucky charms (also uses real lucky charms) I'm always happy. Truly a top notch spot. Dog and family friendly. Parking in side or front of street. Can order ahead. Tables along side for eating. Best ice cream on the jersey shore.

Our favorite ice cream in the stone harbor / avalon area. No samples provided, but you dont need a taste test. If you go earlier in the day you can buy pints but during peak hours they are usually too busy.

Best ice cream on the island by far - obviously homemade with high quality ingredients. Love love the cinnamon or blueberry crumb, cappuccino chunk, and can't go wrong with any of the classics. Their new system of service - though different than before - is faster and more efficient. Highly recommend!

Really tasty ice cream, go to favorites are avalon mud, Kohler donut, and cinnamon crumb. Love that they partner with the local kohler bakery to make unique flavors. Have been a long time fan and customer, and the price seems to have increased as portion sizes go down. A double scoop of ice cream is $8, while a pint is $10 (but can't order a pint after 7pm apparently). Also charge $3.50 for a pup cup (aka small amount of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream with a treat), when most of the other places on the island are free pup cups.

Outdoor ordering for COVID. Lots of flavors. Good quality homemade ice cream. Friendly staff. I got the blueberry crumb, which is fresh blueberry ice cream (had pieces of whole berry throughout) with crumb topping from a local bakery folded in. Not too sweet, nice smooth texture. Nothing not to love. This location is nice as its set amongst all the lit trees along Dune Drive and there's seating. Small parking lot of 5-7 spaces, but we had no issues getting a spot.

Horrible customer service. Went to the dune drive location to get ice cream for 5 of us. They wouldn't let us in the store due to "Covid." Really??? It's June 17th, 2023! COVID's been over. So next we ask to try a few flavors. Every other ice cream place in the world will let you try a flavor. The rude guy said no. I said "what if my 6 year old son doesn't like it? Since you won't give him a sample, how does he know if he likes it or not?" The rude guy said we would have to buy a whole new ice cream. Again. Horrible customer service and completely out of touch with reality.

Kudos to the very great staff at Sundae best. I love their set up by having people order outside and the staff deliver it. I've been there a handful of times just so I can keep trying new flavors so far Keylime is my favorite. I especially like that their ice cream is not served in a cone but instead in a cup and they're happy to put a cone on top for you. With the weather being so hot and the kids not being able to eat ice cream on a cone fast enough this is the smartest way I've seen it served. Thank you for keeping my kids hands and arms ice cream free. You guys and your staff are the best

Probably the worst ice cream I've had in my entire life. I got cookies and cream ice cream. It was like 75% cookies and 25% cream. Should be the opposite. Whoever mixed the cookies in did a terrible job. My mouth was literally parched after eating it. You are supposed to crumble the cookies into a fine powder and then mix them in. This place just sloppily threw in some barely crushed cookies and hastily mixed them in. And the line was super long to order; we waited like a half hour. This place gets business because there are very few competitors in Avalon. Next time, I'll drive to Happy's in Wildwood or Sea Shells in the Crest. Better and cheaper at those places.

Very disappointed with this establishment. They decided to dispose of their practice of getting a new tub to scoop from for customers with allergies. Instead they will now only clean their ice cream scoop. This means many can no longer eat here due to high risk of cross contamination. To provide a safe place for people to eat and then take it away is devastating.

Sundae Best is clearly the best! Homemade ice cream was so delicious. Customer service is impeccable. Was served by a very knowledgeable young man named Jake. Would definitely recommend and I will be returning.

Ice cream is very good and tastes homemade. Despite having to stay outside the store waiting for your cone, service was quick and friendly.

Although I don't live in the area anymore, my parents still do. After Sundae Best opened, it was all they could talk about. I've been to Sundae Best a couple of times during my visits home to South Jersey and (as someone who has tried ALL of the local ice cream shops) I can easily say this place is the best place to get ice cream for a number of reasons. Sure, it's cash only, but that's true of a lot of places in a small town; just plan ahead! Sundae Best MAKES THEIR OWN ICE CREAM, which is becoming harder and harder to find nowadays, and it's delicious. This means that they rotate their flavors regularly, although they seem to have a selection of good ol' standbys (Avalon Mud being one of them). Even when it's super busy (and expect it to be if you arrive anytime after 7pm during the summer), the employees are more than happy to let you taste samples (but don't be *that* person who asks to try 20 flavors...have some decency!) or ask questions about the flavors (some of them aren't self-explanatory and you can't always see them in the freezer). Have I mentioned the price? No? It is stellar! It's $4.50 for a single scoop, which is excellent for a touristy place. The single scoops that I've gotten have all been a large portion (and bonus - if you get a waffle cone, they typically give you a bit extra). Even if you have your favorite ice cream place at least give this one a shot - who knows, you might even like it!

My favorite ice cream! Homemade and so creamy. the prices are super reasonable especially for on the island! I love the hurricane (vanilla ice cream with a bunch of toppings blended in) and the chocolate cookies (cookies & cream with chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla) yum!

The ice cream is wholesome with no artificial ingredients. Kim the owner does everything she can to make customers happy. Plus fun to look at the myriad of beautiful elegant dogs playing with each other! Worth waiting in line!

Celiac SAFE. They offer GF plain and sugar cones and will scoop from a new container to prevent any cross contamination. As a parent of a child who suffers with Celiac and has become sick from cross contamination I am so grateful. She is so excited to have a gf cone just like everyone else. Thank you Sundae Best!! And the ice cream is Delicious !!

I have been vacationing in Avalon, NJ for my entire life and I have only just recently started going to Sundae Best and it is hands down the best ice cream on the island. If you visit Avalon, you need to go to Sundae best and try one of their homemade flavors!!

What a cute name and we were helped by a friendly crew of tanned teenagers. I am still trying to figure out where Avalon employs all of its summer help from. Although there was no one else in the store a group of three of the teens seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves rather than helping us but that's ok. I tried two flavors and they were both delicious. Ended up paying $6.50 for a single scoop of peanut butter swirl with peanut butter sauce and chocolate chips. It was delicious but a little pricey for the size of it and I think they were a bit skimpy on the chocolate chips.

This is my favorite ice cream joint in Avalon. During the off-season, I (unsuccessfully) try to recreate the Fluffer Nutter sundae (peanut butter & marshmallow and whatnot). Alas, to no avail. I'm sure some of the other flavors/options are just as tasty, but I'm not particularly interested in trying them. I'm a man of simple and consistent tastes: peanut butter and peanut butter affiliated things all day, everyday. Sundae Best is almost good enough to wait in their occasionally ridiculously long lines for. Almost.

Absolutely best ice cream in Avalon hands down! They also have vegan options for my son which is amazing!

No BS this is the best ice cream down the shore! I stay in North wildwood and drive almost a half hour to go here while I drive by and laugh at all the people in the long line at Springer's. They may have a few less flavours then Springer's but really that is ok. I'll take hot waffle cone with cherry vanilla and or with cookies n cream ice cream!

During a recent trip to Avalon we ordered an Ice Cream Cake from Sundae's Best. The ordering process was easy and completed all online using the businesses website. The website then sent a confirmation. We arrived to pick the cake up, paid, and celebrated a birthday! Overall the cake was as we ordered. The flavors of the ice cream were very tasty and everyone was pleased. The ability to complete the entire ordering process online was very helpful. A great option to stay on the island and have an ice cream cake for a family celebration.

Good variety of ice cream and sundaes. Over priced, but everything is in Avalon. Good covid precautions as they have moved service to outdoors.

Sundae Best truly is the BEST. Their homemade ice cream includes the typical flavors, including mint choco chip and cookie dough, but also includes unique flavors, such as coffee cake and funky monkey. I ordered one scoop of funky monkey (banana ice cream with peanut butter and chocolate chunks) and one scoop of death by chocolate (chocolate ice cream with dark/white chocolate chunks and chocolate fudge swirl) on a sugar cone. All I can say is wow. The funky monkey ice cream is now my all-time favorite flavor, and i imagine that it would be even better in a cup with hot fudge poured over it. The servings were HUGE (each scoop was probably a little smaller than a softball), unlike other nearby ice cream parlors that give skimpy portions and charge a ton. As I walked out, with a smile on my face and my ice cream in hand, I most definitely got stares from salivating customers waiting in line. The service was impeccable as well. The sign on their door said the closing time was 8, but I arrived at 8:15 only to find a line out the door and the employees still serving ice cream past the scheduled closing time. As I was waiting in line, I had several questions about some flavors, and the employees were happy to answer they were scooping ice cream for other customers. Additionally, they offer various toppings and types of cones.

We have been to Avalon three times and this is the first time we have ever been here because my cousin loves to go to the ice cream place in Stone Harbor with extremely long lines. But I'm so happy we ventured out on our own- this place had better ice cream, shorter lines, more interesting flavors, and much more pleasant seating outside under the lighted trees. An unusual collection of varied flavors made this a very enjoyable ice cream treat. The service came with a smile and the sever didn't mind explaining what each of the flavors were despite the fact that it was almost closing time. The espresso crunch had a rich coffee flavor, the Almond Joy had real flecks of coconut, and the Avalon Mud was creamy and light! We will be back again to try all of those inviting ice cream sundaes!

Sundaes Best is truly the best! The ice cream is absolutely delicious. I was very impressed with their gluten free cone options. They also have a very good selection of ice cream with interesting flavors. I would recommend Sundaes Best to anyone looking for an ice cream spot on the island. The coconut milk creamsicle flavor is amazing.

Let's start with what's most important: the ice cream is outstanding; not too sweet and teeming with quality ingredients. The sundae's are creative, the pricing is premium. It's busy. But with a deli counter style "take a number" system, the crowd moves swiftly. There's no seating (or restrooms, for that matter) inside, But there's plenty of seating on the avenue Finally, BEWARE: cash only.

Easily the best ice cream on the island, and my favorite ice cream on the planet. Yes, it's that good. They usually have upwards of 30 flavors on deck, all home made with epic quantities of cream, making this the dietary equivalent of Fat Man. But you didn't come here to diet now, did you? Of course not. You want that creamy smoothness to take you back to happier times...riding bikes with your best friend on a summer afternoon, staying up late to play Monopoly with enough house rules that nobody could actually win, and playing glow in the dark wiffle ball. All the flavors are great, and some simply cannot be missed. Peanut butter, black raspberry, cherry vanilla, and cappachino chunk are my personal favorites. No, I can't be a kid again, but Sundae Best can at least make me feel like one.

Salted Caramel was perfect. Rich vanilla based ice cream with the sublime, balanced salty caramel in every bite. Great service with a number system and reasonable prices. Sundaes look tempting. And a Veteran outside working diligently to keep the outside tables clean. What a special man.

Forget Springers... This is the best ice cream on the island! They've got plenty of great flavors including butter pecan and of course Kohlers cream doughnut. No more to be said

We visited Sundae Best this evening. My $7 strawberry milkshake was not made right. It was like drinking strawberry milk not a thick creamy milkshake. Big disappointment as I wasted calories on a terrible treat. My husband had a double scoop of ice cream with two flavors. The size of the cone was ridiculously small as we saw people coming out of the store with single cones larger than his double cone. Next time I will stick with my favorite soft ice cream down the street. Will not return.

Cute neighborhood place. Line was wrapped throughout the place and almost out the door, but the staff had their shit together like a well-uniformed assembly line and the wait was over quite quickly. They had every ice cream flavor imaginable but they were out of waffle cones that night (no biggie). Prices were average. Helpings were just right. My Swedish Fish water ice was not overly sweet and very enjoyable. The black raspberry ice cream was very good. My cousin, however, got the salted caramel and wasn't crazy about it. We've all had salted caramel before and it's generally the perfect sweet to salty ratio, but this was like if you walked into the ocean with a caramel candy in your mouth and then gulped a mouthful of saltwater. That's what it tasted like. The salt content was almost gritty on the tongue. Stick to another flavor and this place is just right.

I absolutely love Sundae Best's Ice Cream! Avalon Mud is my favorite! It's always so creamy and delicious! And I've always loved the chocolate kiss at the bottom of the sugar cone- just such a sweet touch! Candy selection is fab as well! Always has been!

Amazing ice cream and generous portions- its as good as it gets! They have so many flavors I often find it hard to decide on what I want. Avalon Mud and Salted Caramel are my favorite, and they also have plenty of other equally delicious flavors including Mint Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter Swirl, and Funky Monkey. The owner is so sweet and personable and you can tell that he goes the extra mile for his customers. My only recommendation is to go right after your dinner because there is a line that is out the door by 8:30, if not earlier. If you don't visit here at least once on your vacation you are missing out!

Service was very friendly, nice that they still had a selection of items even though after Labor Day. Salted carmel was just ehh, the black cherry was pretty good. I think we prefer the ice cream place across the street from the 5&10, but this is a good backup.

Sundae Best is adorable. It's owned and operated by a father and daughter and clearly has a hometown vibe. Ed, the Dad but more like a Grandpa, can be seen working hard and socializing with customers out front. The ice cream is fantastic, but Ed is also a draw! All their ice cream is homemade daily on site.
