As a disclaimer, I am not fully vegan, but I do enjoy eating plant-based meals.
I've been wanting to try Sunflower for a while, and finally got around to it today. I ordered the jalapeño burger (and was given the traditional one, but that's okay), a side of potatoes (the vegetable of the day), and a side of the curried chickpea salad. Other things I tasted at the table were a banh mi wrap with sauteed portabello mushrooms in place of a burger, the chipotle hummus and pita, and the caramelized apples.
My burger was quite tasty. The texture of the burger was intriguing, and wasn't made of beans; it was made of some sort of wild rice blend mixture. The flavors were all pretty good, and adding some hot sauce as I ate it made it perfect for me. The potatoes were pretty good, too, and were properly cooked. I enjoyed the chipotle hummus, and the pita that was served with it was warm and toasty. The caramelized apples were interesting and different than anything I've tasted.
The only thing I didn't particularly like was the curried chickpea salad. I'm sure they make new batches every day and it probably always tastes a little different, but it was missing something for me. It needed acid, salt, and a bit more flavor.
The portions were great, and the prices were reasonable!
Overall, I enjoyed this place. The hallmark of good vegan food is that you don't miss the meat when eating it...and at Sunflower, I definitely didn't miss the meat!
