4 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles: September 6 | Eater LA

"The line of petite Taiwanese mooncakes produced by Sunmerry Bakery strikes a fun balance between traditional and modern: nearly a dozen flavors include the classic red bean with a salted egg yolk center, contemporary ube milk and oolong matcha varieties, and a chocolate lava mooncake that’s perfect for first-timers curious about the tradition. I grew up eating the denser Vietnamese-style mooncakes—packed with preserved meat, nuts, and fruit—but I find Sunmerry’s lighter Taiwanese versions a more approachable option for many palates." - Eater Staff

LA’s Asian Bakeries Gear-Up for Annual Mooncake Festival This Weekend | Eater LA

"I tried the boba mooncakes at Sunmerry Bakery and noticed they also make Taiwanese-style mooncakes with flaky exteriors." - Cathy Chaplin

Sunmerry is a popular Asian bakery chain in California and New Jersey with an extensive selection of cakes, donuts, pastries, breads, croissants, and even some savory items like pork bolo buns and ham and egg brioche. They also make cakes to order for events and do fundraisers too. On my latest visit I grabbed a variety of sweet pastries to sample - mango mochinut, strawberry mochinut, strawberry cloud donut, coconut cream roll, and some cheese tarts that I mistook for egg tarts lol. Luckily I enjoyed the mistake - the cheese tarts were quite nice! Light but creamy and not too sweet - would get again. The strawberry cloud donut was decent too - the smooth cream was very sweet but balanced by the not-so-sweet pastry - and was a nice fluffy texture. The mochinuts had nice flavors too - very strong fruit profiles - but the texture was too chewy. I wouldn’t get these again given there are so many mochinut shops in the SGV. The coconut cream roll was my least fave. The dough was kinda thick and dry and the cream just tasted like I was biting into a stick of butter with sugar mixed in - there wasn’t much coconut flavor at all. And it was covered in the thinnest shaved coconut “dust” I’ve ever seen - it was very loose and messy and just covered every surface BUT the donut. Definitely wouldn’t get this again. When you enter, you grab some tongs and a tray and just browse around and grab what you want. Take it up to the counter and they’ll bag it up for you. They have coffee menu too - and were giving samples of cinnamon cheesecake (Japanese style) at the register which was fantastic! Service was friendly and welcoming. Prices were surprisingly great. They’re located in a large shopping center with narrow parking spots which could be challenging when it gets busy. I wouldn’t mind coming back to try more of their Japanese cheesecake options!

They often have drink promotions—this time it was buy one, get one free! Their cakes are beautifully decorated, and the bread is really tasty. They frequently introduce new types of bread too. Now they’ve even added a bagel section and a Melomelo corner. My favorite is definitely their Oreo boba milk tea!

Hello Katty T.

Google
My husband placed an order for pickup today, specifically ordering a Salted Cream Caramel Latte for me. Unfortunately, when he brought the drink home, we realized the staff had incorrectly given him a Salted Cream Cold Brew instead. I am incredibly disappointed by this mistake because, living about 20 minutes away from the store, it is too late and simply not feasible for us to drive back now for a replacement.

It's my first time here, and walking in, it felt a little bit fancier than an 85* or Paris Baguette. I had visited shortly after they opened for the day, and a few employees were placing fresh pastries in mini bags to be displayed for people to grab an go. They seemed to have a signature item called a Bolo. I had asked one of the girls there is this like the pineapple bun that most places have? She didn't know. I asked about the BBQ bolo, and all she could tell me was that it had the red wet meat in it. It's not the best explanation, but I just kept working my way around. Once, I was at the register to pay. I asked the lady about the Boli bun again, and she was like, there's no pineapple in it. I had to educate her and tell her they call it a pineapple bun because the outside texture was like a pineapple. There was one other lady who worked there that stepped in and answered my questions about the drinks. She was super knowledgeable and helpful. Items I purchased: 1. Iced mango matcha - This was a delicious drink. I'm happy I had picked this instead of a Vietnamese coffee. The matcha was fluffy and thick like a milkshake with the mango it was perfection. 2. Chocolate concha - I love the chocolate pieces on the outside and the surprise hazelnut on the inside. This was easily one of my favorites. 3. Bolo bun - Basically a pineapple bun. 4. Taro mochi - Nice and fluffy. I kind of wished it had a little more taro in it. 5. Strawberry and matcha white chocolate donut - Very tasty and chewy. I liked that it didn't have a greasy feel to it. 6. Strawberry cloud donut - This was a delicious surprise. Nice and fluffy. Strawberry filling wasn't overly sweet. 7. Almond cookies - Crispy and flavorful 8. Peanut brittle candy - My family enjoyed this. Crunchy and not overly sweet. Overall, everything I tried was amazing. I can't wait to come back and try the Japanese bagels. My only recommendation is to educate employees a little more on the items being sold. It's unappealing when employees don't know the items or let alone tried it.

Google
Wish I could give no stars. I got sick after eating the Strawberry Milk Lava cookie they sold me. Called and spoke with the store manager. He took all the info, and said he would call me back in 15 minutes. He didn't. I called them again the next day; was told by a female staff that they would call me by the end of day. They didn't. It's been weeks and they never called me. Will not buy anything from them again since they don't stand behind their products, they don't stand behind their promised services, and you eat at your own risk.

Google
I had one of the worst and most unsafe experiences with this bakery. I ordered a cake through Uber Eats, and there was a sharp piece of plastic INSIDE the cake, hidden in the filling. It cut the inside of my mouth. I have photos and video showing the plastic. I contacted the bakery the next day to let them know, and they completely brushed it off. No apology, no responsibility, nothing. They acted like it was “not their problem.” This is not a minor issue. This is a health and safety hazard. Imagine if a child had eaten this. I’ve already filed a report with Los Angeles County Public Health because clearly this business does not care about customer safety or quality control. The fact that they refuse to take responsibility and are trying to avoid the situation is honestly unbelievable. If this is how they handle something this serious, I can’t even imagine what goes on behind the scenes. Absolutely do NOT trust this bakery.

Google
Not too sweet but how come when we were at the shop around 4pm most of the bakery are almost gone. Cos they are closing late at night. Not so many items to choose and buy

Kay

Google
The owner doesn't turn on the air con, so the bread will become bad faster. The shop is also so hot inside that I think it is even cooler outside, even though it is summer right now. The bread is not very good either. They don't close at the time they say they are, they close an hour early because they will put everything away an hr before, so you cannot buy anything.

Yelp
Sunmerry is solid for their pastries, breads, cakes and drinks! Favorite cake is the Tiramisu and the matcha. Favorite drink is salted cheese with green tea, grapefruit green tea, and their ice coffee drink. Favorite bread is the bolo bbq pork buns and the Hokkaido cream puffs! Located inside the teapot fountain shopping center. Parking lot is always packed so might have to wait a bit.

Yelp
If I was able to choose 3.5 star I would. I went yesterday during a heat wave and it was warmer inside the bakery than it was outside. This is the second time I've to this bakery and it's extremely stuffy and hot in there. I don't know how the employees can work in those conditions. The employees were nice and greeted me when I entered and they informed us for their specials. The baked items were tasty and fresh. Only complaint is that it's like a sauna in there.
google avatar

Yelp
Also want to say, I loooove their promotions Always look forward to a new bev discount. Right now they have a bogo through the week, a different tea each day of the week, personal fave is the black tea and lemon on Mondays.

Yelp
Gave them a five star for the very beautiful Mother's Day cake. Best memory ever.! IG: socalhkfoodies

Yelp
I went to Sunmerry Bakery on three separate occasions and it has now become my favorite bakery AND tea shop. They remind me of another big bakery and tea place I know, but honestly, Sunmerry is 3x better. Fluffier breads, quality tea drinks, and gorgeous cakes. Plus, the staff are so nice and have a very calming demeanor that just makes me want to stay there all day. The staff are also very helpful at recommending things when I ask, because there are so many great options and I can't choose, haha! They are a few bucks more than other asian bakeries but I don't mind paying more for a better experience and better quality goodies. My fiance is a pickier tea drinker than I am, and he said their Grapefruit Green Tea is a 5 out of 5 on the delicious scale - perfectly sweet but not too sweet. You can taste the fresh grapefruit flavor, and the tea was sifted with love and care - we definitely recommend the Grapefruit Green Tea here, and it sure is a refreshing summer drink. It has become a staple to order here. I also went out of my way to try their cake and because I remembered how good their cake looked in the display the last time I was there. My girl bestie loooovvves chocolate, and she had a birthday coming up and I knew I had to get their cake here. I opted for the 6-inch Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Cream, Chocolate Ganche, and Raspberry Jam, and it was perfect. She had lots of sweets celebrating her birthday with multiple friends and told me Sunmerry's cake was the lightest, fluffiest, and most chocolate-y and a cake she can have everyday, easily, because it is just so light and fluffy. I also got to try it and it was very much enjoyed to the last lick of the fork. Plus, it was decorated like a cute fluffy cloud dog, how can I resist? I also got to try a variety of their breads - from their chocolate oreo buns that sent me to chocolate world, to the mochi taro bread that was as fluffy and light as a pillow, to their mini frank roll pack; there wasn't anything I didn't love. I will always make it a point to visit Sunmerry Bakery now if I am in Temple City. Definitely give Sunmerry a try - you will love anything, literally, at first bite. Keep up the amazing work folks! I will see you very soon.

Yelp
Such a fun Chinese bakery full of goodies! The items look super tasty and would rival the 85 degrees shops! Got the almond croissant, strawberry mochi donut, and sliced white bread. Enjoyed all of it.

Yelp
-This bakery is so expensive!! $3 for a croissant where a competitors croissant is $2.10 -The brioche is $3.50 here, the competitor charges $2.80 -The bread is alright -The location is really convenient since it's on Las Tunas -There's underground parking
google avatar

Yelp
This is my go to Sunmerry. I love the staff's friendliness, Angie is always so sweet and patient when helping me decide. I particularly love this bakery's version of the chocolate concha's. Not your authentic Mexican concha, however still yummy, as they are filled with hazelnut cream Their egg tarts are good as well. Customer area is always clean. It's a self serve bakery (except for the cakes and drinks). The bread is individually sealed or wrapped and trays with tongs are provided.
google avatar

Miori I.

Yelp
Small bakery, similar to 85C, located in the Camellia Square plaza on Rosemead and Las Tunas. The plaza has many restaurants so it gets crowded and parking can be difficult. There is additional parking available in an underground lot. I must have popped in right after the morning crowd because nearly half of the bread/pastry shelves were empty. I managed to grab a couple savory breads, a couple sweet breads, and one of their beautifully made moon cakes. Service was ok. Nothing stood out. I wasn't greeted or helped in any way. Which is fine for a grab and go style bakery.

Yelp
We pre-ordered a cake for pick up, which was quick and seamless. We ordered the Matcha Tiramisu ($38), which was great for our party of 12 people. The matcha flavor is balanced well for a creamy texture. They also topped it with an adorable white chocolate bear, which isn't hollow inside. I also liked how they included a happy birthday sign, candles (these were nice candles too, not the cheap basic kind), and plates/utensils. Definitely recommend coming here to get your birthday and celebration cakes!
google avatar

Donna C.

Yelp
I came here on a Friday night and it wasn't crowded at all. The matcha tiramisu caught my eye and had high hopes.. but it's not very tiramisu-y, more like dry cake with a little bit of cream in between layers. The hokaido cream cake was a bit better but also kind of dry. I've gone to Sunmerry multiple times to try their pastries and cakes, but they're always a bit disappointing :( the staff seems nice though.

Yelp
This morning, I came to order a few drinks and I was welcome with the bar isn't open until 830 am because we are short staff. Instead of good morning. The girl that helped me gave me an attitude. I hope the manager can train the staffs to have better customer services.

Yelp
Over 80 types of bread and cakes are made from scratch. Quality/Quantity - Got the following today: Jasmine Green Milk Tea with Boba Strawberry Black Tea with Lychee Jelly 6 pastries: Chocolate Concha - This was very chocolatey, in a good way. Milk Butter Garlic Parsley Brioche Green Tea Croissant And not sure what my daughter picked for the last one, see picture. Day old pastries discount section - Buy two get one free. It would be nice if each pastry had their respective price. Mix and match conchas 4 for $10. Also available - Breads, buns, soft serve (mini), round cakes, pineapple cakes (Taiwanese style), roll cakes, puffs, tarts, puddings, brioche, donuts, cookies, etc. Atmosphere - Nice looking shop, has a lot going on; see pictures. Most importantly, the baked goods looked good. Make sure you refrigerate all the baked goods if they are not consumed immediately. Open 7 days a week from 8am to 9pm or 10pm. Mall parking, but not enough spaces for all the businesses here. Service - This is where they failed. BOGO, Buy One Get One Free - Promotion for specific drinks, see picture. Very strict rules, which did not apply to us, so we paid full price to get what we (my daughter) wanted. Price - $23, reasonably priced for what we got. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1986 with your 12+ locations. Starting in Japan, then to Taiwan in 1986. 2015 - Joined/partnered with Happy Lemon brand.

Yelp
This location has the breads cutely displayed when you walk in. There aren't many tables and chairs to eat and hangout though. I'm currently obsessed with their new bagel line. They offer original, blueberry, and an everything bagel. Each bagel is handcrafted with cream cheese and Japanese mochi flour. I love the chewy consistency and light texture. These bagels are easy to eat on the go and can be popped into the air fryer for a quick breakfast.
google avatar

Baroque P.

Yelp
Might be a personal preference, I just don't like their bread and other pastry items. They are chewy in texture & doesn't always taste so fresh. The staff aren't that friendly or patient. Sometimes I go there with my senior parents, it breaks my heart a little when the young staff members are impatient or dismissive with them. The ambience is okay. I guess if you like their pastry then this is okay for you. I'm not a fan. But I do enjoy their location in Santa Anita Mall. The staff there is lovely. There's something fun about chewing on a bun while walking the mall. But then again, you'll have to walk through the mall to get there lol so I suppose when you're in a hurry and if you think their food is okay, then it's an okay option. But definitely not exciting or even pleasant.
google avatar

Yelp
Passed by this bakery after stuffing our faces at the v m mrestaurant nearby. They have all sorts of fresh individually wrapped pastries and drinks available. When we went they had a couple tables set up with all different flavors of moon cakes. Went with their strawberry mochi donut, cream brioche donut, and another cream style pastry. Each varied in price from $3-5 each. They also had a buy one get one free offer on drinks so we ordered a couple. Don't make the same mistake as me. I didn't think to check the receipt before I left. I realized later on that they charged me for both drinks. They unfortunately did not have boba which was a total disappointment. Overall the bakery was clean and neatly organized.

Yelp
Oh No the white toast now is Hard hard hard Not soft not soft not soft No milk flavor at all Disappointing
google avatar

Yelp
I work near this location. My self and all of my coworkers go here everyday. 4/5 time i visited, the cashier are always rude, and i tipped every time! It is 10:30 am, I am getting breakfast for myself, also before work. It is fine if they don't say hi back, but rolling their eyes, "anything else" with much attitude is unacceptable. I work in food services and retails also, never once I gave this much attitude to my customers, never give attitude to my customers when they are being respectful to me because that just doesn't make sense. S.T. was my cashier hope she will get trained better.
google avatar

Travis P.

Yelp
Pretty standard bakery but they had some pretty good stuff. Came in real quick to pickup a few pastries since I was in the area. I actually really enjoyed the Tuna Danish and for $2-3, I feel wasn't too bad. Selection was reasonable even within 1 hour of closing time which was pretty nice. Quality and price is a thumbs up for me, I'd be back when I want bread and in the area.
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
Similar to 85 degreeswith a wide selection of grab-and-go pastries and drinks. + Brioche Apple ($3) and Brioche Custard ($3): both brioches were soft, fluffy, and light (7.8/10) + Mochi Taro ($2.6): similar to 85 taro Mochi bun, but the taro paste is more paste-like than Mochi-like (7/10) + Black Sesame Mooncake ($4.25): pleasantly surprised with how filled this was! Tastes exactly like the black sesame dessert soup (8.3/10)

Yelp
This location is conveniently located in a plaza with some good restaurants. The store is not super big and they do run out quick. If you come in late in the day, most of the good items are gone. The employees here are nice. In all honesty, this is a pretty typical Asian bakery similar to 85 Degrees. The baed goods are just ok. Nothing here really wowed me though.

Chris L.

Yelp
Sunmerry Bakery has quickly become one of my favorite spots! The customer service is top-notch--every time I walk in, the staff warmly greets me and offers help right away. They're always happy to answer any questions about the breads and pastries, and the employees are genuinely kind and welcoming. The store smells amazing with the scent of freshly baked bread, and everything is made fresh daily. I usually stop by in the morning to grab a salted cream coffee (so good!) and one of their ham & cheese bagels, which are always warm, soft, and delicious. If you're looking for fresh baked goods, friendly service, and a nice place to cool off this summer, definitely check out Sunmerry Bakery.
google avatar

Xuelin L.

Yelp
I am basically professional when it comes to Asian bakeries, and I'll keep this review simple. The bread is pleasant, a little more expensive than other Asian bakeries, the service is acceptable, and the cakes are solid. But what I like about this place the most is how convenient it is. I can easily preorder my items online and come pickup, which is convenient and perfect when I want a specific cake or bread but get off work late.
google avatar

Rom H.

Yelp
The moment I walked in, reminded me of a small 85 degree. Need to grab a drink before heading home on a 1 hr trip. My mouth need to keep busy lol. I got in trouble when I ordered 3 cakes and a drink haha. For my October birthday!
google avatar

Toma C.

Yelp
I was disappointed with the double croissant pastry. I think the chocolate would be alittle crispier it has chocolate powered and i didn't care for that. The green onion pastry was okay the edges was not softened like I would have liked. The place is nice inside but I won't be back. Sorry I ate them before I could take a photo.
google avatar

Sharon S.

Yelp
They have the most delicious and different desserts. The desserts are not sugary but just enough of sweetness. Great assortment of baked pastries. Very clean and good service. Very cute decorations on the cakes.
google avatar

Daisy C.

Yelp
Arrived at 10:30am for a strawberry cake. Said they wouldn't have one ready for another hour. I didn't mind waiting since I planned on doing some shopping. Came back 1 hr 15 min. Cake was ready. Also bought their flattened croissant. Kept the cake in the fridge until 5pm, took it out at room temp for 2 hours. Bit into cake, the strawberries were frozen. Umm what? Smh. And the croissant was dry af. Def not coming back. Cashier was super friendly tho.
google avatar

Stevo O.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to get pastries. I use my Chase card for purchases, as I get Five miles for every dollar of pastries. The favorite is the Portuguese custard tarts and their hot dog sandwiches. If you like discounts, there is a day old sale of buy two and get one free, which I always find something to buy.
google avatar

Rose L.

Yelp
The one bakery I like going to just because of their tuna bread. I also recently tried their pork sung bread and it's on the top of my list along with the tuna bread. I was at this location yesterday and saw they have bite sized pineapple cakes! They sell them in a cute box of 12 for $15. If you are not ready to commit to a whole box, they sell them individually for $1.50. As of 8/31, they were having buy one get one free on their sea salt cream series (I'm not sure if the deal applies to the other drinks on the menu since I only ordered from their sea salt cream menu). Their drink is mediocre; I've definitely had better at another bakery I like getting the same drink at.

Thanh N.

Yelp
Ordered a Lemon Green Tea and and the thing on the tablet showed " Jasmin Green Tea " and I tried to tell the young guy that the order is wrong and he told me that " it just a different name on the tablet" and you know the order come out wrong lmaoo. And happily they changed it for me yea thanks for that :)) but the new lemon green tea came out without sugar I was like what da hek and I was left speechless. Hopefully the owner can see this review and tell them how to use the tablet probarly and know how to add sugar in there drink :))))

Yelp
The place was easy to access, parking was available on a Sunday afternoon, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The place looked neat and well-kept. I purchased the taro pudding cake for $38, but somehow, I ended up disappointing my whole family, bringing dishonor to them. The 'pudding' had the texture of boiled taro bits--nowhere near what you'd expect from pudding. The mango layer was slightly frozen, so every bite felt like biting through a layer of ice. When cutting the cake, it crumbled. Naturally, my parents were disappointed, and so was I.
google avatar

Liliana C.

Yelp
I've been hunting for a good boba place in San Gabriel and never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that a bakery would carry better boba than many places that specialize in it. Their boba is sweet and soft and nice chewy texture. So far I've tried their jasmine milk tea and their purple taro smoothie and both were extremely delicious. Haven't tried their breads yet but I'll definitely be back for those!! (:

Yelp
I've been to Sunmerry Bakery before and I wasn't impressed with their selections but I decided to give it a try and this time, they had a much better selection. I was craving a cronut so I was really happy to see they had it in their rotation. I did like the custard filled one, it was light and flakey. I do wish there was more of the custard though. All the other bread were good and I loved their drinks as well. I will definitely be back next time I'm in the plaza.

Yelp
I have loved Sunmerry for so long, especially my children (we always purchase their birthday cake here). They have a great selection of pastries and beverages! Definitely the best place to get your morning coffee before dropping off the kids at school, while also getting them a yummy treat before school starts. You have a friendly staff that is always willing to help, just don't forget to thank them (let's all be nice to our local Sunmerry staff). The interior has such a delightful aroma that is sure to get you in the mood to enjoy a delicious pastry and smile all through the day.

Yelp
Every time I come to this location, it's pretty dead even though it's located in the prime location at the Camellia Square. I dont know what it is about the ambiance but it's dim and not very inviting. I would only stop in if I am in the plaza but otherwise would not go out of my way to come here. I have tried several of their drinks and really not a fan. I bought a few cakes from here but nothing special either. The only thing I would get here are the plain salted rolls. Those are pretty standard - plain and boring but gets the job done. Summery is more expensive than other bakeries too so honestly expect higher quality but overall, honestly very mid. Parking can get horrendous in this plaza if you are just trying to pick up something quick. There is underground parking also if you're having troubling finding parking on ground level.

Yelp
The food is delicious. My gripe was the employee that rang me up. So went in with my sister to pick up some bread before heading home. We both got a good amount of bread. While my sister was being rung up, another young lady assisted in my checkout. My gripe was while the workers were right next to each other, the person assisting my sister asked for her rewards info. I was waiting for her to ask me so I can get points on my account. My sister asked after finishing transaction if I added my phone number. When looking at the worker, with an attitude, said "you should tell us you have a membership before you come up." I asked if we can still add my membership and she literally just said "too late" with a big "OH WELL". That oh well still haunts me til this day. I'd advise the staff that they need better customer service skills and a bit more training.

Ang M.

Yelp
Good cakes here for special occassions. The rest of the foodfare is also good, fresh, with a reasonable selections. For bakery items, I still think JJ Bakery is the gold standard as far as selection and spot on taste and freshness.

Yelp
Very bad services and bad altitude . I was there around 10 am this morning, and looking for bread. Nothing on the shelves. So I asked a guy who was sitting there on the other side of the counter who they use to put bread, if he can get me some bread, first he didn't look at me, he was on the phone playing game. So I asked him the second time, then he looked up and told me no more bread on the shelves. Which I know already. Than I asked him when the bread will be out. He try to ignore me again cause his phone is more important then the clients I guess. Then I asked him one more time, then he answered me: come back in 1/2 hours. This morning at 10 am was around 100 degrees, and he expected me to come to home and come back in 1/2 hours again on this heat. Forget it. It not only them who have bread. I when to other bakeries and everything was on the shelves before 10 am. Very bad service.

Yelp
:: Food & Drink :: Sunmerry Bakery is a great spot for fresh bread and desserts! I love how they have a variety of bread options, some unique ones that I do not see in other bakeries. I have tried their iced caramel macchiato before and it was just okay. This time I tried their Hawaiian Latte and it was not bad. I think it is just coffee with coconut milk. It's no Pasadena or LA coffee but it gets the job done. :: Service :: Customer service is good and their shop is always clean. :: Parking :: This plaza has underground parking if needed, so it should not be too difficult finding parking on a regular day. :: Tip :: You can only order coffee and certain smoothies in the beginning of the day, I am not sure exactly what time they start taking orders for milk teas or fruit teas.

Yelp
I decided to stop by Sunmerry after going to a different restaurant here, and I was surprised they were running a buy one get one free for certain drinks in the middle of February. While I knew this was a bakery, Sunmerry offered all sorts of drinks, and I decided to get the strawberry green tea with lychee jelly for their promotion. Both drinks were made to order and was done quickly too! The flavor was perfect and quite enjoyable! I also got some egg tarts, though they are slightly higher in price compared to other bakeries in the area. The egg tarts were fresh and flavorful though. All in all, this was a surprise of a bakery and I will be getting more from here.

Yelp
So disappointed, I have been a customer since they opened this location. Their service has declined and the workers are not friendly and not helpful at all.

Yelp
Love the Hokkaido cream cakes here! Soft and pillowy, simple and delightful! Goes great with coffee or simply by itself. Thanks for this pastry, Sunmerry! It's a winner for me...

Yelp
One of our go-to places for delicious breads and pastries while in town. Nice to actually be able to get an espresso drink as well. The brown sugar latte is tasty while being not overly sweet. They have the donuts that reminds us of Mr Donut in Taiwan along with a nice array of sweet airy breads that are easy to just pile up on your try and walk away with a huge bag of as they are all so good. Most items are individually wrapped, which actually makes things way less messy and a much faster experience to get in and out with your treats.

Yelp
Usually when I visit Asian style bakeries I gravitate towards sweet and savory breads - not so much cakes, unless it's a specialty bakery known for cakes (ex: Frances Bakery, Ruby Bakery, Red Ribbon to name a few). That being said, the breads here rock! Our picks always: The Azuki Bean, Taro anything, Hokkaido bread, Sweet Potato Buns, Hot Dog Rolls are family favorites. We also like to pick up plain milk rolls and milk bread to make simple sandwiches or snacks at home (pass the condensed milk pls!). Sunmerry has a nice variety of sweet and savory breads that's incredibly soft and spongy yeasted bread that I like. The family approves of this bakery. It keeps my mom happy which is always a plus!

Yelp
1pm on a Sunday Very busy but line moved quickly Got a Vietnamese coffee and a flaky butter cake cookie Cookie isn't too sweet, very flaky and buttery The Vietnamese coffee is apparently new here but I'm glad they have this as an option for my caffeine needs. The coffee is close enough to a real viet coffee but it's decent. Tastes a little watered down.

Yelp
What's up: We were celebrating birthdays and wanted to buy a cake. I've never tried Sunmerry but their cake pics looked good so we decided to stop by and give them a try. Parking: Located in Camellia Square, parking up front can be atrocious. It seemed that the shared parking lot is always full of cars roaming around looking for a spot. They do have an underground parking garage that makes up for it. So if it's a bit crazy on top, use the parking garage that's accessible on Elm Ave; it's better than fighting for a spot. Environment: Masks are required. Walking in, you'll see trays that you can grab and walk to the different breads and pastries on display. There's an open refrigerated section in the middle of the space for cakes and another display case towards the cashier for whole/sliced cakes. What was ordered: - Japanese Cheese Cake (soft and slight cheese taste) - 6" Strawberry Cream Cake (not too sweet, has strawberry cream and strawberry jam inside and is topped with strawberries and blueberries) Yay/Nay/Meh: The cakes were great and very pretty to look at. When we got the Strawberry Cream Cake, the packaging that they put the cake in was so pretty and they even provided small plates, forks, candles, and a "Happy Birthday" sign. Credit cards are accepted.
